Our class thinks that this is an old picture for two reasons. First, the picture is black and white. Second, the people in the picture are not wearing modern clothes - they are wearing old fashioned clothes. We also think this may be an older picture because there are not a lot of buildings in this city yet. Our class thinks that this picture was taken in a city because we see big buildings that are usually in big cities, like Toronto. Maybe this picture was taken in New York City, because we know that NYC has parks in the city. We see ducks or rocks in the water. We also see scuba divers that may be looking for animals or treasure. We also see people on paddle boats. We think this picture may have been taken on the weekend because no one in the picture is working! (except maybe the scuba divers :P)

I believe this is the 1950s because Scooba was popular and accessible by that time and black and white photography was still the norm.

This picture was taken in Central Park, I know because I've also gone boating there and I recognize the fountain. I think the divers are trying to clean the lake or do something to reduce pollution because that lake has always been polluted and is too shallow to go diving in. Everyone else seems to be going about their day as usual and enjoying the park. I know that this photo was taken in the late 80’s or early 90’s based on the clothing of the people on the boat.
@Pritika A. I was doubting whether this was Central Park or not, but you made me confident it was! I swore the place looked familiar. Even the buildings in the background. Although, I doubt it is 80's or 90's since in the 80's and '90s colored photography became widely available. It could be argued it was pictured black and white as an artistic theme, but who would take a black and white picture of a park? The whole beauty is In color.

What is going on in this picture?
There are scuba divers in a city lake in the 1960s or 70s looking for something in the summer or spring while other citizens are having a casual boat ride.
What do you see that makes you say that?
There are people in the lake in scuba suits, there are high rise buildings close behind, the men are wearing casual attire and the women are wearing short sleeved shirts, it’s a sunny day and the trees are in full bloom, the picture is in black and white and the style of clothing worn by both men and women are of the late 1900’s, there are many scuba divers indicating a larger search team to cover more area.
What more can you find?
It may be a weekend because there are many people on the lake in the middle of the day where most would be working in a developed city on a weekday. There is a fountain in the background indicating that this lake may be in a park of some sort or a place people come to regularly to enjoy days off in the city. There are not many children around so the area may be largely populated by couples without children which also indicates this took place in the later 1900’s because that is when women had easier access to contraceptives and the equal rights and feminist movements had already happened.
In the picture you can see couples rowing in the lake, they are all having a romantic date. And today one of the man is going to propose to his girlfriend, as the atmosphere begins to heat up he is ready to pull out the diamond ring that cost him thousands. Suddenly a group of ducks swam by and they accidentally bumped the boat, which made it tilt a little bit and the diamond ring fell into the lake. the man face was green because he could see that his girlfriend was still expecting something from him, and he couldn't dare to tell her that he had ruin it all( well it was the ducks' fault to be honest but saying that would've made it worse ). In the end his girlfriend kept wondering why he was still beating around the bushes and left angrily. The man was sad that he lost his girlfriend, and losing two things in one day was too sad for him to handle. So he called his friends to come to the lake to help search his diamond ring.

It’s a swim day in New York
I can see in this picture some divers diving in a public lake. And i think that the water of the lake isn't deep. They are searching for something. There are some people in small boats. And there are something like a bridge, So may be they are taking a tour. May be the weather is good, So they are feeling excited and happy. It seems that picture is very old because the colors is black and white.
It looks like some scuba drivers trying to find something. And a few people in some row boats the others look as if they are going on a nice date not knowing what is going on around them.
From what it looks like, I see scuba divers diving in a public lake. The lake seems to be filled with a few row boats, suggest that the water of the lake isn't that deep. Regarding the scuba divers, they don't seem like professionals, so I would guess they are either volunteers or people who are just trying to have fun. I don't know what they would be volunteered for, but I'm pretty sure these aren't legitimate divers.

Well, it seems like there is a Lake behind some tall structures. This picture could possibly have been taken in some type of city , perhaps New York City. There are people who are canoeing, while others are scuba diving, maybe looking for some lost treasure.

In the picture of this article, it looks like a regular summer day in park in New York 40-50 years ago. I believe so because I see many on rowboats, either with their families or with someone else, and in the background, you can see a park. Further back again, I can see buildings, apartments or skyscrapers, which makes me think it might be in New York. I think this picture was from 50 years ago because of the clothing, the image itself, and what people are doing. Today. I don't think many people would be on rowboats anymore, due to the vast amount of other things you could do. In addition, people are even scuba diving in a public park. If it were today, they would find better places to scuba dive. Finally, the image is black and white and the clothing the people are wearing isn't what people wear today.

After taking a close look at the photo I noticed a few things. The boat in the front has a man in it that is possibly wearing a badge(might be a police or security of some sort) and there are multiple women in the other boats dressed up like they were out on dates. The scuba divers scattered in the water might be looking for something important the group of women dropped by accident(my guess is a wedding ring).
@lucas What you say makes sense, but if they were searching for a wedding ring like you said, wouldn't they have gotten out of the boat instead of rowing around? If they stayed in the boat, I think that would probably interfere, because they don't know where they dropped it, meaning they have to search the whole pond. I think that they are just scuba diving for treasure like what people do today, and like you said, those in the background are on dates.

It looks like there are people trying to get to a city ahead of them. Some of the people are scuba diving there and others are simply rowing a boat. Why are they all traveling there? What is so special about this city? What city is this? It sort of looks like Chicago, but I may be wrong. All I know is that everyone wants to go there.

I can see that there are many people scuba diving and others are kayaking in the water. There are two possibilities regarding the scuba divers. The first one is that they are professionnel scuba divers searching for something underwater. Another reason there are scuba divers in the lake, is that they are probably taking lessons on how to scuba dive, since there are many scuba divers in groups. I can guess that this was around late 1960's into early 1970's, by examining the dress of the lady in the back on the canoe. Also the picture was taken in black and white. Color pictures were more common during the 1960's, but the photographer probably prefered black and white pictures, or they didn't have enough money to purchase a color camera.

Possibly in Central Park, Manhattan, there are eight scuba divers searching for a precious item that's under the water. There are also tourist or New Yorkers enjoying the sunshine relaxing on drifting boats. In the background, spectators are having picnic on the warm grass, others are sitting on park benches chatting with one and other. Several enormous trees stand in back ground, giving welcome shade on a hot day, and creating amazing landscape. Further back in the sky line, tall buildings rise above the trees, blending in majestically with blue sky.

I think that their searching for something important
In this image, I see people in scuba gears in what looks like a river. I also see people in boats as they row down the river. It looks warm outside, considering that people are wearing bathing suits and swimming outside. The picture is also black and gray so that tells me this could be an old picture.
The dive team had to search the pond, because someone possibly drowned in the pond. This is shown by the divers grouping up and talking about something possibly planning where to look next. The people in the boats are confused why the divers are in the pond. This is shown by the people in the boats looking at the divers. In this picture, there is a little lake in New York. The atmosphere is beautiful and the sun is shining. It probably smells like flowers and there are little waves carrying the small boats over the clear water.
But there is something weird about the beautiful place: there is a man in the water with his t-shirt on so he might have fallen in the water and is drowning because his clothes are too heavy and he can’t keep himself above the water.
But luckily, there are divers trying to rescue the man from drowning in the little lake.

In this picture, I believe that there are scuba divers in a pond trying to find something valuable because the people on the kayak might have lost belongings.
My first reason I support this claim is because in the picture there are several scuba divers searching for something. The reason I say this is because the people that are in the kayak's are about 5 feet away from them, and I think that they are giving them their explanations on where they lost their belongings.
My second piece of evidence for this picture is that the picture is in black and white so that shows that this photo was taken a long time ago.

It looks like a park in the city, because of the grass and trees, as well as the buildings in the background. there is a pond as well. it has what looks like some nice couples on boats on the water.But there are also a few scuba divers, and little metal things in the water.
I think that the scuba divers are out for a friendly swim or are looking for something they lost but that is not that important. I say that because the people in the boats do not seem very concerned so it can not be very life threatening or inportant. I think it is summer and people are at the edge of an ocean. I think this because there are 4-8 people in the water. This proves that if their looking for something underwater they need to go deep. Second, there is a dock, so it could be that the edge of the edge of an ocean. This would show why they need boats. Third, there is a city in the background behind the docks. This could mean it is a water city like New York or New Jersey and it's at the edge of the ocean.

I could also be that someone dropped something a while back and doesn't know exactly where it is in the water which is why the divers are a bit fanned out.

When I looked at this image, I saw six divers swimming and wearing professional equipment with tanks and goggles. The three divers at the front are enjoying themselves but I don't know what the first diver is doing. The diver on the right of the trio might be holding a string connected to a device that helps him breathe. Further back in the pond, you can see four boats that have people looking at the scuba divers. I am assuming that this is a park because I see a fountain, people chatting, and some benches. I think this photo may have been taken 30 or 40 years ago because of the colours of the photo.
I see a lot of boat riding and water activities it looks like central park. I see buildings but at the same times forest and water. It looks like they are looking for something. or they could simply be looking for things to do in the summer from what i can see by the clothes on the people but that is what i see.

There are many people in boats on the river but the scuba divers want to do something different and jump into the river. Also I don't think anyone tried guessing which river this is yet so my guess is the river in Boston common.
This is a picture from the central park but, I think something is hidden or lost in the lake and the scuba divers are searching for whatever missing i know this because according to the picture the scuba divers are looking down, they have goggles. There is an investigation going on because there was a balloon on top of the water that proves that they were digging in the water to find the missing item.

This picture represents those who are "different." Notice how there are plenty of boats out on the pond doing their thing and looking totally normal. These boats are something that you would expect to see on a pond like this, right? Now look at the scuba divers. They look out of place in a city like this; they look as though they don't really belong. Beyond that, they're all grouped together like a pack of friends would be. To me, this says that those who are different in society tend to find one another and stick together. There are many reasons that these divers could have grouped together, but I believe it is because life is so much easier when you have a group of people who are like you. With a group comes a feeling of safety, and I believe that this picture is a good representation of that idea.

What’s going on in the picture is there is a search crew looking for a dead body. What I see that makes me think that is because I see a lot of search crews in the water and there are people on the boats so maybe they smelled or spotted something and are trying to find the body. There is a race going on in the 1950’s or 60’s, and people can go in a canoe or use a scuba-suit to race. This can be inferred because there are people in canoes, and swimsuits, and are about to reach an area that looks like a dock or a porch. There isn’t much pond or lake area left, making the scene look like these people are at the finish line of a race.

There must be some type of event or hunt going on, because there are about eight or more divers in the water, and even more people in boats, all looking around. Maybe they are looking for something that was lost several years ago and is of great value now, or maybe they are looking for someone missing. Either way, the divers definitely seem to be looking for something. The only thing that confuses me is that the couples in the boat don’t seem to be looking around, they just seem to be there for fun, and are even dressed nice. I don’t think they are also looking, but are just there on a boat ride.
I think its just a bunch of divers. They could be looking for something. Seems more or less like they are just diving in the pond at a park, which is funny because its heavily symbolic of society enjoying nature when we have a role in its creation. If this is in central park, then yea, the most compact city's excuse for itself, a large mat of green and water surrounded by concrete. Are people expected to dive in the Hudson?
I think that the farthest scuba diver that doesn't have a mask has found something or done something that has grabbed everybody's attention.
There is just a few guys scuba diving while everybody else in the lake are in boats, and also, the people in boats are looking oddly concerned why there is just some gear discarded in the lake.
It looks like people are scuba diving but it seems weird for them to be scuba diving in a regular pond so I thought they could be looking for something that maybe somebody accidentally dropped in the water. I also noticed that people are on rowboats in the background so it could be easy for someone to drop something in the water. I'm getting a central park, New York sorta vibe from this photo. In the background, it looks very romantic; a pristine lake, couples walking along the banks, couples in rowboats. But then suddenly there are scuba divers? All I could think of is a romantic date. Some are walking, others are in boats, but you and your date are scuba diving looking at the local speciman underwater and perhaps some conspiracy treasure. From 8 and 10 year old: We think the people are scuba-diving looking for unusual sea creatures or non-native fish or fish that may have been thought to be extinct or rare. The people in the boats might also be looking for them too. This looks like it's in NYC.

What I can see in this photo is a a lake with people scuba diving and i also see four boats with people having fun on a summer day in New York city.
First question. I think this photo was taken at some sort of attraction or festival, featuring a sort of romance theme. As for the scuba divers, they could be there for a number of reasons. Maybe they are helping clean up the trash that may lay in the river. They also might be there to repair attraction machines, like small water cannons. They could also be installing/operating these machines. Second question. The reason I thought of attraction was because of the couples in each of the bouts, as well as the water booies surrounding them. That makes me think of a "love river" ride, or something like that. There was also a city nearby, which made me think of a pop-up festival made to attract city people. Finally, there were the scuba divers. I thought if this was an attraction, they would have something to do with it. Some sort of underwater job to help facilitate the ride. That was the best explanation I could come up with.

I think people were having a fun day then something happened so divers had to come and do something about it and people had to row away in row boats. What made me think that is people look scared as they row away and the divers are farther.

What i see in this picture are men scuba diving, and I think there probably looking for something important. While the SCUBA divers have fairly sophisticated SCUBA gear (considering the photo isn't in color, so it must be fairly old), the people on the boats are wearing casual clothes. There are a lot of people in the river, and the big amount of divers leads me to believe that this is a river that has either been open to the public recently, so people are exploring the river, or that there is a large amount of fish or marine life, that people are coming to see.

I think that this scene takes place in a big industrial city. I think this lake was not meant for scuba diving because the people in the boats look really confused. They're just watching the divers and not really paddling. While not as fulfilling an experience as swimming among vast coral reefs, the divers still find enjoyment, while many park-goers glance over in confusion. The greatest bafflement, however, comes from the unassuming riders of the rowboats.

The water is rippling gently from people's oars as they enjoy the afternoon sun in their small boats. There are also divers in the water. They seem like they are looking for something. I wonder what it is? Possibly they are doing some sort of training.
In this picture I see divers, boaters, many trees, people, animals, and tall, sky scraping buildings. The scenery looks like a park with a fountain in the center of a flat area, benches scattered around a pond or river that is flowing along a line of trees. I also observed that the picture is in black and white. I also see some clothing that you would most likely find in the 1940’s. This leads me to believe that this picture was taken in the mid 1900’s. The skyscrapers that I see look like those that you would find in a large, growing city. That led me to believe that this picture was taken in New York. In New York, there is a park called Central Park that looks very much like this park, with the trees, the fountain, the buildings, and the water. I believe that this picture was taken at Central Park in New York, based on the scenery. I think that the time period this was taken in was the 1940’s, based on their clothing that we would typically see in the 1940’s. Another thing that leads me to this conclusion, is that in 1930-1950, boathouses were being made in New York. I think that the people were renting boats on a nice sunny day for enjoyment. For the divers, I think that since there was reconstruction and rehabilitation in the 1930-1950’s, the divers may be cleaning things from the big construction.
@Cadence Brown I agree, I also thought the picture was taken in about the 1940s because of the clothing. The fact about boathouses is interesting too, I never knew that. The boathouses, along with the large city buildings probably means this was taken in New York.

It seems to be some scuba divers in a pond swimming, perhaps looking for something like treasure, and they are in the park of a big city, probably New York, but it could be Boston. It also seems to be a nice day, and somebody is out on their boat.

There are multiple scuba divers, with a few more underwater than others, and a few rowboats. There are willow trees and large buildings in the background. If I didn't notice how clear the water was, I would say we were in New York, but I now realize this is probably a southern United States area.

My class 3-425 is currently home, but sent me some comments based on this picture. They think this is the lake in Central Park. They think this because of the buildings in the background and because the setting seems familiar to them, having been to Central Park before. They think the divers are looking for something important. They think this because they look like professional and not "random"divers. Others feel that they are training to be divers and aren't looking for anything. They think this because there are people boating in the background.

I think that a ship just sank and their saving people because their are people in the boats. Or somebody lost a possession in the water and they are trying to find it. Also they might be cleaning up the water. The women is dressed a little different also.

In this picture one can see a few people in boats on a lake in the middle of a part. It seems like a sunny day, possibly in spring or summer. The picture seems a bit outdated due to the clothing people are wearing but other than that everything seems pretty normal and nothing is really out of the ordinary until one looks at the bottom of the picture. Here, one can see divers in the lake. A few of them seem to be having a conversation while one of them is facing the camera. No one seems to be disturbed by their presence as they continue to go about their business. I believe that these divers may be scientists doing research on the marine life in the lake.

Based on the clothing that the citizens are wearing, I can infer that this photo is set in the 1980s. It looks like the setting of this photo is in a park in the U.S. The day seems calm and relaxing. I believe that the couples on the boat are there for a nice and relaxing trip. The scuba divers are the subject of the photo and stick out like a sore thumb in the environment their in. However, I believe that a scuba diving lesson is going on, and that's their purpose to go to the park.
I think in this photo, what is going on is Suba Diving Practice. I can't be a hundred percent sure, but as for what I know, the background seems to be in Central Park, New York City. Judging that the timing of this photo seems to be around the early/mid-1900s, I assume that in this photo to assure that scuba suits are safe and helpful for those who may use them in the future, testing them in the Central Park would be helpful.
In this picture we can see a lake on presumably a hot, summer day based on the attire of the people in the boats and the people scuba diving at the front of the picture. This lake is presumably located at a park based on the amount of trees around the lake and the contours of the land. As well as this, there are buildings in the background, suggesting this is a city park. This would make sense considering in cities, there aren't many places for people to scuba dive and therefore a lake in a park would be the perfect opportunity.
There also seems to be quite a lot of romance and love present on the lake with the amount of couples enjoying a row around the lake in boats. However, there also many groups of friends as well as individuals enjoying scuba diving around the lake.
Over the back of the picture we can see the side of the lake where others are sitting and observing the wildlife and the life on the water around them. Some seem to be enjoying food.
All in all, this photo displays a day off for everyone. A day in which everyone is relaxed and enjoying the wildlife around them, escaping from the busy city life.

It's a picture taken in a park lake because I can see the buildings behind it clearly. I think it was taken a pretty long time ago when people still taking black and white photos. People are scuba diving in the park which means that they haven't had swimming pools at that time yet or maybe the tickets to swimming pools were still expensive. I think people are having fun because they even getting into groups and talk to each other while enjoying scuba diving in the lake.

@Joshua I personally think that the picture being in black and white does not necessarily correlate to the picture being taken in the mid to late 90s since color photography became common in the 1960s about 30 years before the 90s.
The picture depicts a day in the vacation as there are multiple people being canoed on boats around a lake. The mood of picture is one of fun given the smile on the scuba diver looking directly at the camera. The picture was taken not long ago given the buildings in the background. The main subject of the picture are scuba divers diving in a lake in a park. The purpose of the image could be to document a day in vacation season where these divers could are people diving for leisure. In the background there are hints of more oxygen tanks therefore, this is a shallow body of water.
I beleieve that in this photo believe the scuba divers are looking for a dead body in the lake where someone where they may have been murdered. I also think that the people in the boats have no idea because the police are trying to keep it low key and not create panic. There are also a lot of public members which could mean it's weekend and in a busy city.

In this picture, it shows people enjoying their weekend in a park. Some are riding a boat, some are doing underwater diving. There are ducks in the lake.

The location of the picture is a park because there are several buildings visible in the background. The time period of the picture may approximately be 19th - 20th century, as the image is black and white. However, there is the possibility of this image been edit into black and white, as the scuba dive suit seems to be modern and similar to the suit we use today. There are boats in the lake however they are traveling in a designed pathway, as the side has the floating balls. It is possible that this is a competition of boat racing and the scuba diver is the staff that ensures the competition progress properly.

What I could infer from the photo is that, it is a spring afternoon and people are enjoying the weather. Few people sitting and walking around this pond and few of them are enjoying boating. There are bunch of divers who look like in search of something. Since the area is not abandoned which means there is not something very serious going on. Therefore, the divers are probably just practicing in shallow water.

Lastly, I noticed the scuba divers searching in the middle of what seems to be a casual Sunday afternoon surrounded by pedestrians enjoying a romantic afternoon.
This photo has something interesting in it. In the foreground, I see four adult scuba divers that just came up from the water. It appears that they may have been having a lesson underwater. In the background, you could see Bethesda Angel Fountain. The boaters might be seeing the Mandarin Duck by chance since boating for fun is very common in the summer.

The location looks like New York City because of the tall buildings. Also by the black and white of the photo I can tell this is from a long time ago because they have colored cameras now. I believe that the scuba divers are looking for something important, otherwise, there would be no reason for them to be there. The three divers talking to each other may be debating whether or not they found what they were looking for and the diver going towards the camera ran out of oxygen in his tank so he is going back for more. The people in the background are unaware of the situation or are just minding their own business. It seems to me like it is a sunny day because of how white the top right corner is.

One can see that the picture was most likely taken at New York’s Central Park. What makes me say this is that there’s a lake located in front of tall buildings. This picture was most likely taken a long time ago. The black and white colors and the quality can be compared to other pictures taken in the 80’s. We can also see scuba divers centered at the bottom of the picture. They are most likely scuba diving for fun since there’s people in boats around them.

In this picture I can see a lake occupied with couples on boats, scuba divers, and ducks. The location seems to be in a park in a large city due to the large buildings in the background. The black and white color of the picture suggests that this is an old photograph. None of the couples seem to pay much attention to the divers so perhaps it's just an activity that the park provides. They could also just be picking up trash which doesn't bring much concern to the couples. The art piece seems to a casual and relaxed day at the park.

In this photo i can see two moods. I can see a light mood such as an environment of love and a dark mood such as death. The light mood is represented by the people in the boats because it seems peaceful and romantic, but the dark mood comes from the scuba divers because slot of times in movies the scuba divers are looking for dead bodies so like the scuba divers give a really dark environment. Something else I notice is that it seems to be like the people in the boats don’t seem affected by the scuba divers so like it gives me an idea that life and death are connected just like black and white

I am hearing several people say that some parts of this picture seem normal, and some parts seem odd. Many of you are focusing on the presence of the people in diving gear as being quite abnormal, and people have very different ideas as to what they might be doing there!

Judging by the photo quality, I am going to assume that this was taken quite a long time ago. To back up my assumptions, I see people or couples to be exact, using rowing boats. To my knowledge, rowing boats are hardly used anymore. One thing I'd like to point out is the fact that scuba divers are taking place in this picture. I find it odd for scuba divers to be diving into lakes rather than oceans. I can also see that the boaters are noticing their presence because they are looking directly at them. Based on the group of scuba divers in the foreground and one of them looking directly at the camera, maybe they are at that lake for diving practice.

This black and white picture seems to be taken in a lake/park due to the amount of trees I see in the back. I can also see what seems to be people walking way in the back of the image. What makes me say that is because they look like human figures. I am also able to see people on canoes on the lake which reminds me of a lake near my school SEMHS. In the lake near my school you are also able to go on the lake on small boats so gave me an idea that this might be a lake. When I first saw the image what caught my attention were the scuba divers. Which makes me curious as to what they might be doing. This picture makes me feel calm and relaxed.

In this image it seems as if there is scuba lessons or trials. I think this is what’s going on because there are people on boats who seem to have the equipment for scuba diving. Another thing I noticed was that there groups of divers here and there, adding onto the idea that they might be lessons. The setting seems to be a lake in the park of a city, the grass area doesn’t seem to be that lard to be a big park and in the distance it seems to be big buildings. Another idea that could be given is that some people are on some sort of date on the boats, it seems as if there are only two people in each and some seem to be woman because of their clothing.

In the photograph I see a lake at possibly park with trees and towering buildings in the background. It is in black and white, there are people in row boats and next to the closest boat, are scuba divers. I’m sure if the people are dressed for the white and black times, it looks pretty modern, maybe a couple of years back.
To me, it seems as if there are couples who seem to be enjoying their day atop of rowboats alongside scuba divers. These couples seem to be unaffected by the presence of these divers, as they continue rowing through what seems to be an artificial lake surrounded by vast greenery and tall buildings in the background. Although I cannot say for sure, these scuba divers may be conducting water tests. What leads me to say that is the individuals and couples who are found within the image, the scuba divers who are in the water and the couples who row atop. The scenery is also very obvious, with huge trees seen around the artificial lake, including the buildings far back. There are also additional items that I can find within this image including a small water fountain that the couples can row around. Within the water, there are also items that are floating which may just be additional scuba divers who are submerged and swimming across. Additionally, there is also an even bigger and almost "subtle" water fountain farther into the background. Close to this water fountain is an entrance to the park within this image with more individuals walking on a path.

I think the people in boats are coaching or talking to the scuba divers. This is probably an event because usually boaters and scuba divers don't go in water at the same time. I think it is on a Saturday because people would be more likely to be out doing things on a weekend and it seems like morning. If it was Sunday morning, a lot of people would be in church. This is probably in the 1950s in New York, because of the clothes, the tall buildings, and the black-and-white picture.

@VTS Moderator - The people in boats are looking at the divers, and the divers seem like they are waiting for the next instruction. Also some divers have just their heads above water, like they might have to always be seen. This is probably some sort of class.
In the picture people are looking for something that contaminated the water but haven't told the public yet. In the water there are people with scuba diving equipment on, this shows that people are in the water looking for the source that could be contaminating it. In the picture there are people rowing their boats and acting like it is another peaceful day, this shows that they have no idea that the water is contaminated and are living their day like any other. There are also buoys in the water that are keeping the regular people from crossing one side of the pond, this shows that the people in the water are looking for something and are not allowing others in that location of the pond.

In this black and white picture I can see a lot of people swimming and canoeing at what it looks to be like a big city. This might be a community park or a nearby pound where family and friends go to have fun and spend time with each other. Other things I’ve notice is 4 people wearing a scuba gear and this picture might be old because the frame is in black and white and the lady in the canoe looks like she’s wearing an 1990’s outfit.

In this picture I see what appears to be a big city. This could be New York, specifically Central Park. This photo also appears to be taken a long time ago, based on the photo quality and black and white coloring. In the forefront of the image we see four people scuba diving. I do not believe that this is any kind of emergence because there are still people in boats on the lake and there would be police cars surrounding the premises. This is most likely recreational scuba diving or this is a sort of class.
What I can see on this picture is that there’s not really a lot of multi colors the picture is only in black-and-white. The black-and-white colors make me think of like the past because back then most of the TV shows they used to be in black and white. I can also see buildings in the background. The buildings make me think that this might be taking place like in a city. The setting looks like it’s like on a public park because I can see like there’s a lot of people and there’s trees in the background and it just looks like a park to me. SEMHS, what I get from this picture is a relaxing vibe, as there is many couples/families just on their boats In a New York City vibe because of the tall buildings and park like trees. But then with a splash off oddness as their is these men just diving in the water with full snorkel suits. The people are also dressed in old fashion clothing as if this work of art was takin in the 80’s.

In this picture I can see a lake with few subjects in it such as scuba divers and people on boats. The black and white colors along with the style people are dressed in suggest that this is an old picture. The location looks as if its the beginning of a big city, I say the beginning of a big city because there are few large buildings and it looks odd and empty when you compare it to the big cities we have now. The subjects in the boat seem unconcerned or oblivious to the scuba divers in the lake as they continue to row their boats. Overall the art piece has a sense of peace since there isn’t too much going on and nobody in the art seems concerned.

Looking at this photograph, I can see that this was taken in the city that never sleeps, New York City, due to the tall buildings. If this photo wasn’t in black and white, it can be seen that the people are enjoying the outdoors due to the people engaging in recreational activities. The 4 different couples that are present in the water seems to be on a romantic date, which suggest it to be Valentine’s day. In addition, with the scuba divers present at the bottom of the photograph, their purpose seems to be managing the couples if they need assistance or to have a performance to enhance the couples’s special day.
I think this picture is old. What makes me say this is that it is a black and white picture. Which makes me this Ig was taken when color was still not a thing. For example, around some time in the 1900s.The setting looks very similar to Central Park in New York due to the fountain at the end of the pond which looks similar to the one in the park today. In this picture you can see people in the water wearing some type of scuba diving outfit. There are quite a few of them, so I'm guessing that they are looking for something. If this is true, the thing the are looking for must not be toxic or dangerous because the water would be evacuated and nobody would be on it, but you can see people on boats who aren't these divers. The people on the boats don't seem very distracted or interested in the divers, so this may be a normal thing they did. I'm guessing this picture was taken sometime in the mid to late 1900s based on the peoples' outfits and the black and white picture. There are skyscrapers in the background which makes be think this picture was taken in New York City in the summertime (judging by the full trees and the fact that people are sailing and not wearing coats or anything like that), but there's no way to really tell where this takes place for sure.

The people on the boats seem to just be enjoying their time. The people in the scuba gear are either searching for something or are just doing it for fun. Seeing divers in a boating lake is quite unusual. I am wondering how many divers there are. In addition to the four in the foreground, there are at least two and perhaps three visible in the distance. Perhaps there are submerged divers too. The boaters seem to be enjoying themselves. Two in the boat in the middle of the picture look as if they are talking with one of the divers. The sense of calmness in the photo suggests that the divers may be there for training or enjoyment. I see lots of tress and building maybe it’s los angles or possible New York even. I see both couples on boats and on shore, maybe it’s a family park or community park too even. I also see divers maybe the lake connects to the ocean or the divers are looking for new things in a new environment. From viewing so many people outside maybe the weather is so hot or maybe the like being outside in the sun. In the very back the building on the far right it looks like something is biting because of the nice weather because things are most likely to catch on fire with such a warm temperature.
When looking at the picture the scuba divers are the first thing that stands out and I can see they are scuba divers by the equipment they are wearing. They are probably several of them swimming around the lake searching for something. It doesn't seem like it's an urgent thing, because the local people you can tell are still riding in the boats as if it were just like a regular day . The background shows very tall skyscrapers in New York City which I can believe was shot. The picture's color is also black and white, and it was probably taken in the mid 60's due to the clothes the women are wearing.
The image above clearly takes place outside in a building, as it shows big trees and buildings in the background. I believe it was taken in the mid 1900’s because of the white clothing the woman is wearing in the boat and also the black and white picture is more clear and defined in color. Another thing that I see is that people, mostly adults are doing recreational activities in the lake such as scuba diving and canoeing in a large lake, in where people rent them so others can enjoying each other’s company, possibly during the weekend, in where they have free time. The suba divers on another hand is hard to determine what their doing, my first thought was that they were looking for gold but then I told myself, why at a lake? So then I thought either one they are looking for something someone lost or two, they are just doing it for fun, because honestly who would want to scuba dive at a lake, in where you can’t really see a lot. So they must just be doing it for fun and do an activity together.
In the following image you can see that the image looks a little old because of the black and white. It seems as of the scuba divers are looking for something because of how many there are. It also seems that the couples in the back are not concerned of the scuba divers presence in the water. This looks like a big city park because of the buildings in the background.

I think the people on the row boats are on dates on valentine's day and the scubadivers are performing something for them. I see that there are two people per boat which is why I think it's a romantic day and since the scuba divers are in the middle of a pond in a city( there's tall buildings so I'm assuming it's a city like Seattle or New York). The photo is in black and white so perhaps it was taken in the past or the photographer just put it in black and white to have a vintage look. One of the passengers on the row boats is also wearing a bathing suit so perhaps the scuba divers are meant to push the boat?. Or another theory is that this was a scripted picture where it's meant to demonstrate the past and future. The past being the couple in the row boat wearing bathing suits and the future being the scuba divers. Perhaps because they are 2earing completely different attire it's supposed to show that in the future the water is to acidic or basic for human skin so they have to wear suits to go swimming?. @VTS Moderator At first I thought it may have been a scripted picture because I thought scuba gear seemed like an odd thing to wear if they were performers, synchronized swimming suits would have made more sense in my opinion or if it was meant to be a valentine's day performance perhaps flashier swim gear would have been more accurate. After taking another look at the photo the divers seem to be quite far away from the boats as well and are forming a diagonal line with the divers in the back. My take on that is that perhaps they keep their distance from the rowers to show that they are not purposely in the water to perform.
in the picture above it shows that there’s people inside a lake trying to look for something underwater . It looks like it’s taking place in New York, it doesn’t look like a big fuss that their there because there is other people rowing on their boats. The scuba divers body language looks like it’s their first time doing this. The picture looks like it was taken in 1900’s. It seems like it’s summer and everyone’s enjoying themselves.

This picture looks like it was not taken too recently because of the black and white. I believe it may take place in the 1950s-60s because of what the people are wearing. It takes place in a body of water, like a river, near a city. Maybe some people are there for a day trip and it is a spot where couples can go in a boat together. Because of this, I'd assume the water isn't too deep, however there are also people in scuba gear. There are actually a lot of them in the water so I think they're searching for something.

This picture is most likely taken in a big city because of the tall buildings in the background. There are many couples in row boats in the lake. This lake seems to be in the middle of a park. One thing I noticed is in all the boats was they are only couples. This makes me think the park has organized some sort of couple day. This picture was probably taken in the sixties because of the women's hats and the fact that the photo was taken in black and white, which was still common in the 60s. There are 4 scuba divers in the lake. I think they are looking for something in the lake. They are definitely going deep underwater because of all their gear. The divers don't seem to be an interruption to anyone because all the in the boats do not seem distracted by the divers.

What I see in this picture is towers and people riding in boats and just relaxing haveing fun watching the view of the city in the park and I see scuba divers trying to find something or just trying to find fish or gold and I see trees and people haveing a good day and just playing around In the park with there family or walking their dogs or running
This picture is taking place in New York City on a river. This river is the Hudson river, and when this picture was taken, there was something strange happening. The picture being in black and white suggests to me that this is in the 1960s or around that time, and the outfits of the women appear to be dated. The women are in row boats with someone else in each, possibly their significant other. I believe these people on boats are all in a movie filming, and the scuba divers shown in the water are the movie directors/filmers. The reason they are under water is to get a good angle for the film, possibly which could be a shark attack movie, like jaws, or just something with fish and sea creatures.

There are scuba divers because they have all that gear on and it seems as if they are looking for something in the lake. To me it looks like a lake because it’s not very large and it’s surrounded by land and trees. Normally you wouldn’t see scuba divers at a lake, I find it rare, they’d usually be at the ocean or something. Another thing is that this must be some park due to all the trees and people that are on rowboats. In the background you can see some buildings so I’m assuming they’re in a city. Since the picture is in black and white maybe this was taken in an older time.

In this picture, some diving men are looking for something in the water while others are in their boats minding their business . Some people are paddling in their boats. This proves that their are people in their boats not paying attention to the divers. Another fact is that the divers have to wear protective clothing to not get wet. This proves that they are in the water. Another fact is that some of the men are coming from underwater and others are going under. This proves that they are looking for something underwater. These are my three reasons on why I believe that these diving men are looking for something, while others are in there boats minding their business.

Looking at the picture I assume that it was taken in New York simply because of the tall buildings and it’s as if I can imagine how vibrant and urban the environment would be if it wasn’t in black and white. The couples in the boat seem to be doing the activity as if it was something that was hosted that day, kind of like an event that could be set up for Valentines Day. This only leads me to believe that the scuba divers were there to help manage anything in order to keep the couples safe or to perform an act for the couples to enjoy, as entertainers.

@Karla Ortega You're right, it probably was something like a couples' day. It might be New York. I never thought of the scuba divers as entertainment but possibly. They could definitely be there to help things move smoothly.
In this picture I see people scuba diving and in boats. I also notice that the lake is in the center of a park. Another thing I see is that there are really tall building in the back round. Finally, I think the scuba diving are at the lake looking for something because most scuba divers go to a lake to find valuable things. (SEMHS)

In my opinion I believe that it was just a regular day in the city in New York, where people were enjoying their nice boat trip! But it also looks like this picture was taken in the 1900s because of how the women in the background have their style! The location may perhaps be Central Park. Secondly, you see the scuba divers who popped up from the water, which they possibly were looking for some sort of an item or necessity or that caught their attention towards that pond!

@Jonathan Oidor I was also thinking maybe Central park! I also think that the scuba divers were probably looking for something in the pond, because I can't think of another reason why they would be disturbing the people in the boats.
I think that the time of this photo was probably in the sixties, due to the woman's clothes in the background and the fact that they are using rowboats. Also it might be in late spring to early fall, due to the trees in the background. Also, it might be in the middle of the day, because you can see sun shining on the lake. I think the place where this photo was taken is a public park, because of the lake and a water fountain in the background. I think the reason the scuba divers are there is probably not too big of a problem because everyone in the photo looks pretty calm and there are people in rowboats on the lake it must not be a crime scene. maybe someone on the rowboat dropped something important. Maybe the scuba divers are there to see if the lake water is safe to swim in. Maybe they are there to clean the lake. Maybe they are fixing something that is out of the picture , like a statue or a monument or a bridge.

@Ariana I agree with your comments about the scuba divers not being there for any serious reasons, because if they were they would have evacuated the lake. I do not however think that they are there to see if the lake is safe to swim in because then I doubt they would let people ride boats on the lake. Perhaps the scuba divers are looking for something that someone had dropped, or maybe they are there for recreational purposes.
@EmilyAOSE I agree with everything you've just said, except for the part about how people in rowboats wouldn't be there if the water wasn't safe. I think that since this is set in the sixties, it might not be as safe. Obviously, I have not lived in the sixties, but I would assume that it was not as safe as the present. But I do agree that it would be weird if the scuba divers were there just to test the water safeness.
The skyscrapers in the background suggest that this is a park in New York City. It is most likely summer if people are using boats on the lake. There are many scuba divers, which seems very unusual, but this is most likely a job of some sort. They may be looking for something lost in the lake or trying to clean up any unwanted objects from the lake. They could also be scientists that are researching the ecosystem in this lake. Despite them working in the lake it is nothing urgent because other people are still using boats. The area between the divers and the boats is divided by buoys.

I think this picture was taken in the 50s, and it was taken in Louisiana because of the big pelican statue(state bird) on a lake and the scuba divers are lifeguards making sure the boats are safe. I think the person that is not in a boat or in scuba gear fell out of a boat that is not in the picture, and he is floating because there is secretly a scuba diver under him.

I also noticed that there were scuba divers in the front of the picture. They are probably fixing a fountain, or testing the safety of this lake. The scuba divers could test the water quality for the animals, to provide a safe atmosphere, or they could even be searching for something that was lost.

@VTS Moderator I am unsure about what the scuba divers are doing because in a city lake, there could be many possibilities. Maybe there was a crime, because in cities, that is always possible. Or perhaps, the water just needs to be tested for the safety of people. I question why there are so many scuba divers, which could lead me to believe that there is something important going on.
I think it is a training for diving, because there is buoys in a rectangel and in it is peopel in diving gear and think the people in the boats are instructors telling them what to do.

I did not think about that fact that the divers were practicing which is a very good point! But i disagree with you when you said the people in the boats are giving directions. The people in the boats seem to be rowing and enjoying their day, not helping the scuba drivers.
I believe that this is a photo of people enjoying their time in post World War 2 New York City. The photo is in black and white and based on the style of clothing the people in the boats are wearing and the lack of multiple skyscrapers in the background, I believe that this is early 1900s New York City. The fountain at the very end of the pond furthers my thought that this is New York, specifically Central Park since there is a large fountain just like that one in the park today. The one thing that does confuse me is why the people would be scuba diving in a public park. I believe that these are people who are testing out a new invention that was a product of the war, scuba diving. During World War 2, two frenchmen in German-occupied France invented the first scuba diving set for the French Navy to use. Now that the war is over, I beileve that they sold their product for recreational use as seen in this photo.

this obviously seems to be some sort of community lake or even a private one with a lot of members. I see two things in this picture. One is that it might be a very nice day, causing may people to be out on rowboats to enjoy the day and some are scuba diving maybe to look for something at the bottom of the lake. My second guess is that maybe someone pr something drowned or got lost in the water and all of these people are almost a search party. It's not very common for there to be scuba divers in lakes, so because of that, it leads me to believe that they're there to look for something important or precious that is under the water and that the people in the boats are looking to see if there's anything to help their search above the water.

This photo has a bunch of scuba divers that I think are looking for something. I can tell because why else would they be scuba diving in a busy river full of boats and people. This photo also looks like it was taken in a city, because of the tall skyscrapers in the back. Maybe it was taken in Central Park, NYC. I'm guessing this photo was taken around the 1950's because it is in black and white, and the outfits the people in the boats are wearing fit that time frame. This was probably summertime because everyone on the boats are wearing short sleeves.

In this picture it looks like divers are in a pond with birds and people boating around them. Due to the outfits people are wearing as well as the fact that the picture is black and white, I assume that it is taken in the 1950s or 60s. I wonder why the diver are in the pond and what they are looking for. Maybe they are trying to put a fountain in the lake and they need people to review what the floor of the pond looks like, or maybe they are trying to help the animals that live in that pond have a cleaner environment to live in? I assume that the photo was taken on a warm, sunny day in somewhere between late spring and early fall based on the trees, the clothes that people are wearing, and the lighting. It seems to be an old photo because of it being in black and white and because of the clothes the people are wearing. The woman closest to the camera is wearing something similar to what I think of as 60's fashion. Because of the skyscrapers in the background, I think it's in a city, maybe New York. It could be in Central Park. I have a couple thoughts as to why the scuba divers are there. They could be taking samples of the water and plants to test for a chemical imbalance. They could be collecting trash or objects that fell into the water. There could be a structure underneath the water that they are examining to keep up to date.

I think there has been a murder in the main lake of one New Yorks major parks. Rarley are there scooba divers in park lakes given their man-made beginings and the only logical explanation is that they are searching for a corpse.

It is summer in Central Park in New York. As it is summer we wonder if this is a race, perhaps a charity event and the people in wetsuits are taking part. Or it could be more sinister and they are police divers doing an investigation for a weapon or body and the boating people are being kept awayy

I see couple of people rowing boat, probably in Central Park. A lady on the boat is in post-war style fashion so this picture might be taken in 50s or early 60s. As color photography got popular among 70s, this monochrome picture was taken before 70s. I think this picture was taken in a warm day as a man on the boat wears short sleeve shirt.
I also see people diving into the pond for fun or picking up trash.
I also can see some white space around the picture. It makes me think of photography in museums.
