I am embarrassed by Pelosi's childish antics. She is destroying the Democratic party single-handedly.
Cam (California)
@Al I wouldn’t worry about it, Trump has destroyed American law and respectability.
Beverly Asmutis (Punta Gorda, FL)
@Al No Speaker in history has had to deal with such a crooked president except the one in office when Nixon was president. Bill Clinton was an adulterer but never supported an enemy like Russia over his own country.
John Figliozzi (Clifton Park, NY)
@Al... but you’re curiously not ashamed of Trump’s not only repeatedly childish but thoroughly unethical, malicious, mendacious and immoral acts, though. Tell me. How can one become so willfully blind?
Mary (Alabama)
Thank you, Senator Jones of Alabama for voting guilty to the Articles of Impeachment. This is a brave, moral vote. Alabama isn’t completely red. By the way, Senator Shelby of Alabama, you are a Coward ! I am not surprised, but I am very disappointed.

Mitt! Just heard! You are an American Hero! Honor, Courage, Integrity, Compassion, Strength Restoring faith and hope in America Thank You.

Guilty, but not guilty! I'll use this as an example of paradox for my AP students.

Maine voters should send Susan Collins into retirement. Blanche DuBois was a decisive, courageous woman next to her.
Bill Adams (San Diego)
And with Biden's poor showing in Iowa, who's to say that Trump didn't succeed in derailing his key challenger in the election? In other words, he not only tried to corrupt the election, he actually succeeded. The Republican rationale of "too close to the election" and "let the voter decide" misses the point.
Lisa Morrison (Portland OR)
Senator Collins knows she's toast politically. Why not let her conscience be her guide, if she still has one?
Dan Holton (TN)
Consider what it would be like as an American war fighter in a foxhole with Doug Jones.

Mitt Romney - the sole Republican worthy of the true party of Lincoln.

Ms. Collins told CBS. “My job is not to weigh the political consequences, but to do impartial justice to live up to the oath that I took.” . . . . . . . She understood her duties perfectly, yet, curiously, she did exactly the opposite.

Anyone looking at the appropriateness of impeachment (and conviction) impartially has to rely on the governing document, the Constitution of the United States, the relevant portions of which are subject to interpretation in their implementation. That the vote on impeachment (and conviction) is largely being decided along party lines is reprehensible.

I am astounded how the politicians use the voters as their excuse for cowardice to not vote what is directly before their eyes. President Trump is a total disgrace to the office of the presidency. He requested a foreign government to assist him in his reelection bid, and that's not impeachable? Compare McConnell and his cohorts to the courage of the Senate Republican leadership during the Nixon impeachment. I know the profiles that I see. The Republican Party has become the true enemy of the United States of America.
IGUANA (Pennington NJ)
Our only hope now is Rudy Giuliani who intends to keep tilting at windmills investigating the Bidens. Rudy Giuliani intends to be the hero whether anyone likes it or not. Rudy Giuliani will blow them all up yet.
Mike (Here)
Republicans and conservatives - Hang your heads in shame. It is clear President Trump broke the law and corrupted the workings of the government and then covered it up and you have birthed the reality that the President can do anything at all and the executive, judiciary and congress can do nothing about it. Be careful what you wish for because when you are in the minority, minority groups will be coming after you and they will have the support of everyone that witnessed the travesty you serve up today.
Cam (California)
@Mike I believe you are so very correct. I have lost all respect for Republican Senators except the two whom upheld their oath. Cudos to those two, I hope the rest of them should have been more worried about their country than their party and own jobs. Shame on you. There will be no controlling Trump fro now on.
Lori (California)
We are weeping over the great experiment of America. As Benjamin Franklin said, it will stay together as “…A REPUBLIC, IF YOU CAN KEEP IT.”
jerry lee (rochester ny)
Reality Check appears even if all republicans voted to empeach . President would over ride an fire all of them. We all need job but what cost do we accept
Think (Wisconsin)
@jerry lee I think you need to take a look at the Constitution. That is not even close to how it works....but you are right on your last point...How badly do these Republican Senators love their bloody titles/positions that they would openly breach their solemn duty to the Constitution and the citizens of this country?
SMB (New York, NY)
The Decline of our Democracy in all its Glory. What more evidence do the Republicans need? This is a man who claims he is "The Chosen One" Claims to be a Genius. Rips children from their parents. Disrespects our former Presidents. Uses his Office to put cash into his pockets. Removes Health Care from the Sick. Orders our Intelligence agencies to give his children Security Clearances. Lies about everything including the Weather Forecast. Honors dictators and breaks Agreements with our Allies. America what is wrong with you??
HurryHarry (NJ)
"What more evidence do the Republicans need?" @SMB - You might have asked ,"What more evidence do the Democrats need?" After all, it was the Democrats who demanded additional witnesses.
Beverly Asmutis (Punta Gorda, FL)
@SMB Accurate summation of Trump's deeds, so far! The taxpayers have spent enormous sums protecting him and allowing his luxurious golf outings as well as his commingling of his personal interests with his job as president. He surrounds himself with sycophants and maintains a litany of lies as truth. I still can't believe all those who support this con artist.
Beverly Asmutis (Punta Gorda, FL)
@HurryHarry As new evidence of Trump's chicanery comes out, it should have been heard. If you believe he's not the snake oil salesman he has proven himself to be, then I suggest you vote for him again.

Tonight I move my civics book that talks about checks and balances to the “fiction” section of my home library.
Geoff Mc Carthy (Ireland)
@Miguel sanchez You may as well burn it. Trump appears to have done so!
JeffW (North Carolina)
Trump blocked witnesses and documents in the House impeachment inquiry, and he and McConnell blocked witness and documents in the Senate trial, and now the Republicans say Trump did something wrong and maybe even impeachable, but the Democrats failed to prove their case. We all know this game from when we were kids. The big bully brother grabs the wrists of the little brother and slaps him in the face with his own hands, taunting him with, “Quit hitting yourself! Quit hitting yourself!” It may sound like Washington Democrats are the metaphorical little brother, but they represent the people in the case of Donald J. Trump vs. the Citizens of America. We are the little brother, and we are repeatedly being slapped in the face. Little brothers grow up, sometimes bigger than their big brothers.
Cam (California)
@JeffW we can only hope or be terrified at what’s coming.
