So great to hear an artist who came up having studied the greats of the last half century. She goes deep and wide and knows where she comes from, artistically. Great stuff! Carry on!

Love her. Just heard one song, which led to another and another and... Amazing voice, lyrics. And what a story. Good luck at the Grammys, Yola. You deserve it.

her album ranks for me up there with "dusty in memphis" - what a subtle masterpiece!

Can't wait to get her latest album- haven't been as excited about a new artist like this in years. Go Yola! Will be rooting for you on Sunday.

I hhad the great good fortune to listen to Yola at the 2019 Farm Aid. What a voice; what a presence.

Yola is a star. We saw her show at Music Hall of W'Burg a couple weeks ago and the packed house was diverse--all ages, races, cultures--and everyone's jaws were on the floor after every song. It was something to see. This is a fantastic album without one bad song.

The Times year end list was pretty bad, but then their pieces on specific artists are usually top rate, like the one on Sturgill Simpson and now this one. Anyhow, there's not a bad song on Walk Through the Fire. I hope Yola crushes it at the Grammy's and gets the recognition she deserves. Wonder what it'll be like seeing the biggest pop stars perform on the same night as Yola.

"“I was very isolated from the ability to absorb popular culture,” she said in a recent interview in New York. “Poverty is a wonderful isolator. If you have resources, you have access to all the latest computer games, all the latest records.”" This passage strikes me as insincere b/c radio plays contemporary music and is free.

It’s very much necessary to establish your victim cred in popular culture these days.

Just checked out 4 songs of hers on youtube Wow! What a voice and artistic interpretation. She's going far.

Just listening to and seeing her in Faraway Eyes made me decide to check out the other songs later, and based on her voice and delivery in that song, I'm planning on downloading/buying the entire album. That's the kind of vocal talent that should win her the Grammy for best new artist.

Just saw her at the Fine Line in Minneapolis. Amazing voice.
