Next year aim for beauty not bizarre.
Patricia Carr (Gulfport, Florida)
Striking photography, granted. But very few, if any, of them show an impact on the life of the "average" American, the one who does not live in New York City, may not be gay, does not follow fashion fads voraciously. Interesting your choice of subjects. I would say that this is more of a New York state of mind that that of America at large...
Mark (Ohio)
So where are the lonely, unequal and worried people in the numerous photos?
Jordan (New York)
I suppose it's *possible* that this could have been less interesting, less telling, less informative, less related to the topic proposition ... but I'm not sure how. May I please have my four minutes and 45 seconds returned to me? (Now *that* would be interesting.)
CATango (Ventura)
Interesting, entertaining and perhaps representative of what is happening, but leave me out of the "us." Very little of this collection even remotely represents the portion of the nation that does not exist on the thin candy shell of its coasts. In fact, I live on that shell and I don't even see this as representative. You may have captured the reason Trump was elected...not on his merits but as a self-destructive reaction.
In The Ville (Somerville MA)
The Kardashian-Jenner-Bezos image has a real Last-Days-of-The-Roman-Empire look about it.
Machiavelli (Firenze)
Amazing! Diversity in extremis!
Luke (Colorado)
Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Jeff Bezos are not "us."
Klaus (Denmark)
Extraordinary colourful images with a message of love and human emotions. Some fancy dress styles were extravagant and surreal. Several of those dresses are not for practical daily use. It is just the eye of the beholder.
Myles (Rochester)
Love how every image of people in love features two perfect bodies or bodies creatively elided from the shot. Things change, but one thing that seems immortal is fashion's aversion to normal looking bodies...
George & Veronica B (Waxahachie, TX formerly from NY)
Your caption on one photo is incorrect. It should say Buc-ees of Texas.
Missouri Mike (Columbia, MO)
@George & Veronica B Anyone traveling through that area MUST make a stop there. True Americana. And the cleanest rest rooms in the country!
elmueador (Boston)
"MSNBC and Fox News shout down at us". No, they are not equivalent.
Elliot Silberberg (Steamboat Springs, Colorado)
Robert Frank, I miss you.
Richard (Illinois)
@Elliot Silberberg .ditto!
Ignatius J. Reilly (N.C.)
@Elliot Silberberg Robert Frank's later art - personal videos of himself taking out the trash in Nova Scotia and talking to the camera about his life and anguish, preceded the "self document" culture of youtube, facebook and instagram by decades. A true artist. Let's not forget Jonas Mekas either. We lost two birds of a feather in 2019.
