Love. love. love this. We should all be so lucky to have someone like Mr. Hoffman in our lives.

I am truly inspired by this story, introducing us to the cast of a very unique and heartwarming reality show, "Tuesdays with Matthew". Having spent a lot of time with seniors over my career and with my parents at the end of their lives, I know how important being seen and played with is to many an elder. Having just turned 70, I may have discovered from this piece, how I might spend the next 15 years or so, as a much older (and less gifted) version of Matthew. Please keep telling the stories of volunteers who give so much of themselves so that others may find connection and joy. Thank you and keep at it, Matthew!

Thank you, Matthew Hoffman - may you have all the success you deserve. Although from my vantage point you have already achieved success of a very important type by making a huge difference in the lives of those who are too often, too quickly, marginalised. That you have done this by engaging with compassion and authenticity is a story for all of us. It's hard to remember that this is possible during these greedy, self-serving and dishonest times. Bravo.

This is a Modern Love story for sure! Actually, this is a movie.

What a giving person. He deserves to have his career work out.

What a great story. Matthew Hoffman is part saint also. His story reminds me of Elton John talking about working with people and how it helped him - "At the peak of his career, “happiness became elusive, and darkness crept in,” John said, referencing his past struggles with drugs, alcohol addiction, and an eating disorder. “It was through humanitarian pursuits that my life took on vastly new meaning,” he said. It was at this time that John worked to support the family of Ryan White, a high school student barred from his school in the 1980s upon being diagnosed with AIDS. John said working with White’s family was the catalyst for both his sobriety and the creation of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “I wanted to help them, but they ended up helping me far more,” John said. “Seeing how they dealt with adversity through getting to know them inspired me to turn my own life around.” https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017 ... ace-prize/

In a country that is becoming more selfish and hateful by the day, under the current clown show in Washington, Mr. Hoffman has raised my spirits and has helped me see past some of the meanness that I see enveloping the United States, especially since 2016. Tuesday’s with Matthew at the White House could possibly save the world. And I’d pay anything to see 45 and Mike Pence doing a scene from “Broke Back Mountain.” Keep up the good work, Matthew!

Oh, my gosh! Someone make a movie about this man and those seniors!

And no one cares that he's gay. All that matters is his love, joyous enthusiasm, heart and soul, compassion, and understanding.
Kelly Close (San Francisco)
@gramphil well, we think it’s cool that he’s gay.

@Kelly Close Great comment! I agree.

Thank you for this lovely story. It's repeated in many Senior Theatre companies around the nation where older actors find fulfillment in theatre. To find out more, visit www.seniortheatre.com

This is the kind of article I would like to see more of in Styles instead of profiles of people who are famous for being famous. Very inspiring.

What an amazing guy...thanks for this story!

I have the feeling that when Matthew Hoffman is a senior himself, looking back over his life, a highlight will be his time spent coaching theater to seniors. I hope he’ll keep going there, both for himself and the seniors. This is life changing work for all involved, truly priceless.
