Stephen's brilliant clip "You knew darn well I was a snake before you took me in!" from prez -- that oughtta be made famous (is it 'viral' these days?) in the coming Election. What fool's gonna vote for a self-professed 'snake'? trump's not draining the swamp trump IS the swamp.

Lindsey Graham's admission of partiality pre-trial is commendable, in a partisan way, but, as Stephen says, you should at least pretend because when the trial starts You Take an Oath: "I solemnly swear I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and Laws: So help me God." So, how can yo do both? Be partial, already decided, and Impartial? How on Earth does that work? Or does God just forgive all lies while swearing in at United States Senate Trials?

And here I thought it was going to be a weasel.

A GOP mascot for the party of Trump? How about a dung beetle.

Just 1 ostrich, Stephen? How about 435? (There’s strength in numbers!)

T-Shirt, t-shirt, t-shirt, yard sign.

How does anyone support someone who uses money intended for veterans for themselves?

I’ve been thinking that a jellyfish, lacking a spine, would be a great substitute for the elephant.

Love your column, Trish Bendix. It seems all the Late Night quotes are from men. What about Samantha Bee, Lilly Sighn, or Busy Philips?

Civilized discourse still very much holds sway in the United States. Deciding that the sand-hiding ostrich is an appropriate symbol for the GOP is quite the polite understatement. One could think of a great many other symbols, but one has to mind the rules for commenting in a NYT thread. But I do hope that a methane producing animal will pass muster, as well as a small, active, fecund rodent inhabiting the drains of all large cities. One could of course think of a source of chops, not the lamb, of course. Or, would one pay homage to the GOP by thinking of those useful legless creatures which, by wriggling endless through it, transform waste into compost ? No, I, for one, will choose the lemming, while I am earnestly looking for the nearest cliff.

@nestor potkine You left out the Remora; I think the comparison is apt.

@nestor potkine Don't insult worms that way. Unlike the modern GOP, they actually serve a vital purpose that benefits life on earth, and perform their toil with no expectation of reward or glory.

One could say the Democrat logo of the donkey is the perfect choice for one’s political summation of said party.
