I love the NYT and this podcast but every now and then you guys really miss the mark and this was one of them. People who don’t follow Brexit are going to listen to this and think it’s real. How arrogant of Mark Landlers to suggest that the British people don’t quite understand the full extent of their vote (act one vs act two). For the last three years the British people have had to deal with the deplorable negotiating tactics of the EU, as members of the EU. It has dragged on to no end. To suggest that they don’t understand that Boris will now have to negotiate with Brussels as a non EU member is just so baffling and wrong. That point is at the very crux of the Brexit debate. I trusted the NYT. I became a member because of this podcast. Such shorty journalism. Very disappointing.

The people have spoken. Bravo Boris!!

How about a written transcript of your podcasts? Most people do not have time to sit and listen to a podcast, but can easily read through the information in MUCH less time.

I have read, admiringly, Mr Landler's articles for years. But the chance to hear his analysis today only deepens my admiration for this reporter. Mr Landler is terrific. Bravo, and many thanks!

I was a bit let down by the report today. It sounded like UKers were more interested in Christmas than a general election that will decide their nation's future for decades to come. How condescending. I also disagree that most of the British "don't realize" that "getting Brexit done" is just the end of the beginning, that the process of leaving the EU and reestablishing themselves in the world will take years. I was just in the UK in October and my friends and others I met are exhausted and demoralized but they sure as heck know that whatever happens today, there is still a long way to go before anything in their nation is "done." And to say Labor was "talking about anything but Brexit," is just flat out wrong. Talking about the NHS is one example of what Brexit may well wreck in the UK, turning it into a privatized health system (many NYT articles have reported this). The NHS isn't perfect but it has been a beacon of what socialized medicine can be over the past few decades. The Tories and Johnson won't talk about anything specific but certainly bend over backwards to push every extreme to misinform, obfuscate and dissemble (sounds like over here). I wish this podcast had been a little more balanced as most other of the NYT UK/Brexit coverage has been.

Boris Johnson and his Tories seem to have won a solid majority in a landslide. The Tories will reign for years to come. Brexit will happen shortly. At the end of the day, the UK will enter a Norway-type deal with its most important trading partner across the Channel to prevent the breakup of the union.
