Pretty absurd that people combine shopping with drinking. Wonder what the return rate is for those who drank, probably high. Same on stores for introducing this.

Pretty ridiculous concept really, can't Americans enjoy anything without combining it with alcohol anymore - movies, shopping, what will be next.

The London department stores Fortnum and Mason and Harrods have understood the nexus between entertainment and retailing for years. It is too bad the American department stores have lagged but now they are making up for lost time. Server, please, another glass of Bordeaux Blanc.

Well, I remember the restaurant at the Wanamaker's in Philadelphia after seeing the XMAS light show. But this will definitely be a thing for my wife's BFF, not only a Trump voter but the consummate consumer for sure. She smokes Gauloises with her wine. Do they allow that?

WeWork rocketed to fame initially with the help of unlimited free beer for it's tenants. Alcohol, of course, is drug, and a powerful one. After some sexual assault problems(goes with the turf), WeWork had to revise and limit the beer, but the founder, Adam Neumann, was well known for his love of expensive tequila and drinking it a lot. I mention this to show the strange dichotomy in our culture where we claim to be against drug use, yet a drug which causes a lot of death and social wreckage, isn't even called a drug, and is the official drug of America. Wine is one of the pillars of the Catholic church. "We want you - and we have good drugs to keep you happy".

There used to be a cozy basement bar in Macy's on 34th St. Is it still there?

You will pry my Nordies Card from my cold dead hands. The original store on Pine street in Seattle, my ultimate happy place. And I’m not really a “shopper “. Best place ever to try on Designer Sunglasses and new fragrances, and to replenish old favorites.

Get your customers drunk while shopping, Oh, Umm, if we do that perhaps we should take another look at our return policy. Then there is the whole what if they drove to the store issue.

Someone in PR has figured that alcohol would grease the sales and bring some additional revenue.

How fun ! — Peak of the real estate market maturity as food & beverage penetrate absolutely everywhere - what next Rooftop Speak Easy(s) ? Wonder what will fly over country will do... Beers at the Dollar Store overlooking the closed up Main Street ? Change is coming soon as the Donald sweats it they tell us. Polls in the Midwest, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin look ominous for the Dems as Impeachment trundles along to its dead end in the Senate. America wants to keep the good times rolling it seems - we will see...

This article has literally nothing to do with Trump.

Two of the biggest mark-ups in commerce have finally joined here in the U.S. - liquor sales at a bar and retail clothing.

@Mike Further evidence that Karl Marx was right about the merging of capitol. I first noticed it when fast food and Hollywood joined forces to target our children.

@Chrisinauburn "Capital." D'oh.

If the Shopping Experience itself, doesn't render you Intoxicated, the Clicquot most certainly will......

Our local Mariano's has a beer and wine bar, complete with live music on Friday nights and wine tastings from time to time. The first time I saw a shopper carrying a wine glass through the meat aisle, I did a double take. Now, it's just part of the scene.

@ ChicagoWill My Kind of Town Dec. 10 Interesting and decadent. I do not shop at Mariano's.

Nordie’s SF restaurant allowed me to spend a lot more on shoes after my husband spent time drinking there. Booze is a good thing.

Bar at top level of department store on the Kaerntnerstrasse in Vienna for a long time.

@Edward Absolutely! Restaurants and bars are common in European department stores. As are wonderful food halls! They bring customers in the door and make for a much more engaging experience. Little wonder many foreign department stores are doing far better than their U.S. counterparts.
