What to do with this piece of investigative journalism? was it interesting, intriguing? yes, but when it comes down to what to do with it, I cringe at the self-delusion, at the influence one person can have on family, at the voyeur aspect the public is willing to engage in, at the lengths and expense to expose this truth… and am left with the conflicting picture of ‘truth revealed’ here versus “truth revealed” elsewhere, as in Trump… and come away glad for this form of escapism, for the Magic Carpet imagery conjured for me.
It Is very Interesting Reporting (The Hague)
I listened to the podcast, which I found to be really gripping. It is a touching story, very moving and sad.

I’d only glanced briefly at the original story headline in the NYT before moving on to the politics of the day. Then another day, while waiting out a snowstorm, I began listening to the podcast on The Daily. Wow! What a story, what a life! Real or not, so fascinating, so heartbreaking. Fantastic reporting, thank you NYT for supporting this kind of journalism.
