Both the above comments couldn't be farther from the truth. Megeve is a very authentic medieval village with charming buildings, a beautiful cathedral, cobblestone streets closed to car traffic. There is a tremendous variety of restaurants to suit all taste and pockets, from three star Michelin to McDonalds. It is also a very family friendly resort. Everyone of our friends that have visited are struck by the magical ambiance of the village and the surrounding mountains.

AS the article points out, the skiing season in low-lying Megeve is extremely short - and there have been many years when it barely existed . Climate change certainly is not going to make the situation any better . Megeve is one of these towns which lives on a reputation built in the 1930's when well healed "comme il faut" bourgeois families spent a good deal of the summer avoiding the heat of Paris and - in the late 40's - the conge payes crowds of the Riviera . It still reeks of snobbery in spite of lacking anything remotely genuinely alpine . Unlike its neighbors Saint Gervais and Les Houches, it is not even a starting point for summer mountain climbing . Downtown Megeve is almost as authentic as the Venetian in Macau .

@pgd; I could not agree more. Megeve is just an obscenely expensive and completely artificial playground for the ultra-rich. Nobody serious about winter sports goes to or even visits Megeve. They all go to Chamonix. Even staid old Saint Gervais has more charm and personality.
