The Rebooted Carmelo Anthony: Same as He Ever Was

I long for the days of Bird and Magic. But I’m old :-)

“ It’s easy to chalk up Anthony’s first performance to rust, but he didn’t actually look rusty. He was able to get to his spots — often posting up or in the midrange. He just couldn’t convert very often.“ That's the definition of rust. His post-up shots just didn’t drop. Since when is rust measured by the ability to get to spots? I thought he looked fine, considering that he hasn’t played or practiced with an NBA team for more than a year.

Anthony's style of iso play and 2 point jump shots is not suited for today's style of ball movement and efficient shots. Portland will learn the same lesson Houston learned last season. My only question is, why will it take so long for them to learn it? Doesn't Stotts have 2 eyes and a brain?

My goodness, so quick to judge. Why wouldn’t he be somewhat rusty after all this time? And as for his teammates, he has a sterling reputation as a great teammate! Check it out. Other players like him a lot.

Maybe after he proves to be an ineffectual savior for the Blazers, he can join another desperate team — the one overseeing the Trump defense.

"That was a miscommunication about my past couple of years.." Huh? Nothing seems to have changed. Same old, same old.

Ah, Melo...shooters gonna shoot...never seen a shot he doesn't like...always think the next one is going to go in.... I saw so many years of that work with the Knicks and not only was it frustrating, but it was also boring basketball to watch. Bring the ball up court, get it to Melo, he backs down a defender, lets time tick off the clock and then chucks up a shot. Not worth the price of admission.

Quiz: Name one Carmelo Anthony teammate who who became a better player and was able to significantly elevate his game because of Anthony’s presence on the floor. Yeah, I couldn’t either.
CS (Maine)
Only the NY press would judge a player who hasn’t played in over a year on the basis of one game. Give me a break.
Biff (Malibu)
@CS Give me a break. He's a year older, and he stunk a year ago. And a year before that. He will only serve to bring the Blazers down even more.

Team game with offensive efficiency and defense paramount. One-on-five player who scores in double figures because he takes thirty shots and plays lousy defense. He'll be gone soon.
CJ (Oakland)
I’m not sure Andre Iguodala has exactly faded into the background as he was a key player in the last three championships and overall success of the Warriors. It’s a shame they had to trade. As for Carmelo, I have a feeling the guy isn’t the most congenial teammate. Someone can play moderately good basketball but sometimes that’s just not enough.

Melo's style of play simply does not age gracefully, and with such inefficiency, he will begin to drag his team down. There are completely legitimate reasons why he was spurned this summer, and it seems that Portland is acting out of desperation by taking him on. He may have been a good player in years past, but in the modern NBA, he is not relevant anymore.
