"Sean Spicer tried to dance. He wore a floofy neon top." Floofy??? Were you trying to say "fluffy" or did you really think it was "floofier' than that?
Steve Tunley (Reston, VA)
Of the many things that I don't understand in this life, why someone would watch a show like this is near the very top of the list.
LesISmore (RisingBird)
@Steve Tunley Because for some it is just sheer fun. I don't watch, but my wife does. And every evening when its done she comes into the bedroom where i've been reading, watching a movie or listening to music, and strikes a pose; before laughing at herself. BTW, some of the dancing is actually good.
Tonjo (Florida)
@Steve Tunley Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. When I lived in NYC, I remember seeing kids dancing on the sidewalks with more flare than these flat footed 'stars' ABC presents. What a waste.
susan (nyc)
@Steve Tunley - I agree. I don't watch this either. Thank heaven for the cable networks.
EA (home)
The endless inanity of everything connected to Trump is depressing beyond belief. Who will be next on the show--Mulvaney? Giuliani? Nothing would surprise me.
Susan Anderson (Boston)
@EA Giuliani sounds all too likely. Grotesque. One would never get those moments back.
Marti Mart (Texas)
@EA The Mooch! If he could stop talking long enough to dance.
Bruce S (Henderson, NV)
I don't often watch this show but I happened to see it one of the times when Spicer tried to dance. I know I am a poor dancer, but even I could tell Spicer was a truly awful dancer and its beyond me why anyone would want to see it repeated week after week. His dance partner is lucky she wasn't been seriously injured.
Lorenzo (Oregon)
Once upon a time it was a real dancing competition, not a path to "redemption".
JAF (Morganton Ga)
Don't watch the show but there have been sufficient clips shown on other shows that clearly show he has no dancing talent, what so ever! I've seen better dancers that have had spinal fusion surgery.
Mark Thomason (Clawson, MI)
I'm not sure which offends more, the politics that got this guy without talent onto the show, or the politics that dominated all discussion of his remaining on the show.
Larry Greenfield (New York City)
Sean Spicer’s approaches to dancing Were often compared to freelancing But what he lacked in style He made up with his smile And for weeks he kept on advancing
Shend (TheShire)
Sorry, no way I can take seriously Sean Spicer dancing, unless of course he does it in an Easter bunny costume. What could be a more fitting image for the Trump Administration than than its WH Press Secretary dancing in a bunny costume? Kind of still says it all, nothing has really changed since he left.
kenneth (nyc)
May he now "Shuffle Off to Buffalo."
Susan Anderson (Boston)
@kenneth Unfortunately, that undermines a great show!
Paulie (Earth)
What is painfully apparent is that republicans have no soul.
Constant reader (Minneapolis)
This should have been published with late night comedy.
kenneth (nyc)
@Constant reader Where is Late Night Comedy published?
Paul S (Hoboken, N.J.)
He danced like Mr. Potatohead. As press secretary was a bobblehead. "Only the best people...."
Stephen (Oakland)
He should be dancing with the convicts in prison for his lies to the American public and betrayal of trust
CathyK (Oregon)
Don’t forget Tom Delay in his twinkle toe debut on dancing with the stars......what is with these Republicans
kenneth (nyc)
@CathyK What is with them, you ask? Distraction, Cathy. That's what works best for them these days.
Norm Vinson (Ottawa, Ontario)
Which star was Spicer dancing with?
kenneth (nyc)
@Norm Vinson You can't be Sirius !
Len (Pennsylvania)
I suffered through watching the YouTube clip of Spicer attempting to dance the Argentine Tango that accompanied this story's on-line version. It was painful to watch as it was to watch him conducting those arrogant and dismissive White House Press Briefings. Spicer has had more than his 15 minutes of fame (more like infamy). Bye Bye Sean. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
julia (USA)
From the start I didn’t understand how this man with absolutely zero talent was even considered for DWTS. I have enjoyed the show in general but this fiasco challenges my future intent. It was also clear to me, though I was not aware of the actual tweets, that some political influence was involved in such an awful dancer’s persistence in the competition. I have often questioned the inclusion of popular vote in the ratings, when performance is the issue!
kenneth (nyc)
@julia Clearly you can't appreciate High Travesty.
The View From Downriver (Earth)
If only it were this easy to eliminate another member or two... or maybe more... from the Current Administration.
Birdygirl (CA)
Finally the novelty of having Spicer on the show wore off. Now he can retreat and write yet another book about the experience. What a guy!
Frank Ocean (Los Angeles)
At least he was humiliated. Hopefully this will be the last we see of Spicer unless he decides to run along the D list celebrity circuit.
Kev (Sun Diego)
His dancing skills were not impressive, but his presence on the show was great just because he served as a troll to all the people who hate him. That was more entertaining than his ability to dance.
Shend (TheShire)
@Kev Also, it just begs the question: Is Sean Spicer good at anything?
Susan Anderson (Boston)
@Kev We hate lies and lying liars. Have a problem with that? Let alone a dance show should be about dance, and dance skills. Vulgar and degrading.
AusTex (Austin TX)
One of the many reasons I don't watch network TV except for SNL. That this fraud is shameless enough to show his face in public is beyond me, but I don't have to look.
Cat (New Orleans)
The fact that Sean Spicer even got invited turned me off of DWTS. The fact that he is a terrible performer and is still on the show confirms that I made the right decision. No more DWTS for me ever!
kenneth (nyc)
@Cat Yes, he was hard to watch. But, yes, you will tune in again.
Annie (Rhode Island)
How does a sitting U.S. president have time for this?
kenneth (nyc)
@Annie He needs to rest after a long day Twittering.
kenneth (nyc)
@Annie By doing very little of anything else. Just sitting on the sofa and Making American TV Great Again.
Constant reader (Minneapolis)
@Annie be grateful. Imagine what he might be doing instead.

I’m rooting for Stephen Miller in 2025 - wouldn’t he be fabulous! Maybe Kelly Ann Conway and that sweet (?) Huckabee girl could kick off their gubernatorial runs with a dance off challenge to one another. Oh, my, the “disgraced political allies” of the commander-in-thief are limitless in number and talentless in scope. Bring ‘em on!
MIMA (heartsny)
Guess his dancing around the press for the sake of Donald Trump didn’t really pay off after all.
Linda (OK)
After looking at the photos with the article, I see that Spicer's acid-green shirt wasn't the only styling mistake on the show.
Donald Criss (Munday, WV)
I never watch stuff like this, so I really don't know; maybe they picked the wrong music. May I suggest 'Dancin' Fool by Frank Zappa?
Jay (Los Angeles)
When does Sarah Sanders; appearance on The Voice begin?
John Grillo (Edgewater, MD)
Next “career” stop for Mr. Spicer, filling a niche position at his former boss’s Winter White House in Florida: Celebrity Caddy. Go for it Shawn, you can do it! The tips must be enormous.
db2 (Phila)
Oooh what next, Nikki Haley unmasked?
Rich (Berkeley CA)
Perhaps he was willing to make a fool of himself dancing to try to make us forget what a fool he was asPress Secretary.
Irene (Brooklyn, NY)
The travesty of this contestant being on as long as he has points out that achievement and talent should not be a popularity contest, but evaluated by people who know their kraft. "So You Think You Can Dance" is an example of talent.
CC (Sonoma, California)
Spicer voted off? Irrefutable proof of a just and merciful God.
MoneyRules (New Jersey)
this guy should face life in prision for betraying The Constitution of The United States of America.
kenneth (nyc)
@MoneyRules Only in a country where Money rules.
Jack (AK)
One Trump tweet did what Spicey's bad dancing couldn't - got him eliminated from the show.
Ron B (Vancouver Canada)
I can't imagine any case where a self respecting woman would want to be pushed around a dance floor by Spicer.
kenneth (nyc)
@Ron B Are you assuming he led?
PeterW (Ann Arbor)
I’m with you Steve. This stuff couldn’t possibly appeal to ANY intellect. And the male “celebrities” referenced in this article are certainly NOT “stars” - and every one was, truly, a HACK dancer from the brief glimpses I gave to the video clips - - particularly Spicer. They all served as nothing more than poles for the ladies to drape themselves on as THEY danced (some of them).
steve (paia)
I would much rather see Sean Spicer on my TV over Hannah Brown any day of the week, thank you very much.
Deirdre (New Jersey)
My first thought was that Spicer took the place of really hard working contestants that were all better dancers than he is. But the more I think on it making him work and work, week after week in humiliating costume after costume is it’s own living purgatory - I am sure Trump was laughing at and not with cause that’s just how he rolls.
runaway (somewhere in the desert)
A republican with absolutely no skills that translate to the position for which he was selected and no capacity to grow better kept in that position for too long due to conservative support. Good thing that nothing like this has ever happened before where it really matters.
