Dream House

My dream house would be a one-floor only house that is yellow and has a tiled roof where I would live with my family. My dream house would be close to a lake. There would be a big lawn next to my house with a pebble pathway from inside that leads to a roller rink. The inside of my dream house would be huge and hockey-related. When you first walk in you'll see a big bedroom under a dome. The bedroom will have a lots of fluffy pillows, a TV and a bookshelf. Next to the bedroom is a weightlifting room. The reason why I have one is so I don't have to go to the gym all the time. After my workouts, I'll go to the soothing spa/massage room so I can relax. Keep going straight and you'll get to the NHL-sized hockey rink where my team does most of their practices. Go straight, take a right and you'll get to a small hockey rink where my team sometimes practices. When I feel like it, I'll go there to skate around. Go left and then go right and you'll get to a living room with a TV and a couch. The TV is in front of the couch with fluffy pillow. Keep going to the left and you'll see a similar room to the one before but instead of a couch, it's just fluffy pillows all over the floor. Keep going left and you'll get to the regular-sized heated swimming pool with a tiled bottom so you don't get pool toe! Go left and then go right and you get to the equipment room with Warrior-brand hockey gear and sticks. That concludes the tour of my dream house.

My perfect home would have land and no neighbors super close. I would want my space and privacy and not have to worry about being too loud for neighbors. I would want enough rooms for all my children plus one extra in case a family or friend came to visit. One thing that I would really want is a big kitchen with an island in the middle of it. I would also want a garage and a nice yard for kids to play.
Lauren McGowan (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
I can still see myself now, sitting in my room spending hours on YouTube watching endless house tours. Riding in different neighborhoods as a kid was always something I enjoyed, and I even remember running around in my neighborhood wandering in the newly built, but empty, houses with my friends. Ever since I was little, I have said that I want a huge house on the water. I would want it to be very modern but still have somewhat of a home look to it. I want my kids to be able to grow up on the beach and have a life that I have wanted for myself as a kid. When I was younger, I used to think having a big house on the water was like winning the jackpot but now that I have gotten older, I have realized that having a big house isn’t a big deal. Sure, everyone wants the luxury of having a huge house but when you really think about it, how much time do you really spend at your house? I would rather invest my money into traveling, or doing things to better the places around me. I am very fortunate to live where I live now be able to experience what it is like to have to work for things. The article talks about how they created at “Barbie dream house”, which I think it is something that is very interesting. They created the house into an airbnb style house, which they said attracted more customers. Just along with anything else, the more they play around the better it gets. I think that if you have the luxury of building your own dream house, then you should definitely do it!
Gloria Guerrero (Nipomo, Ca)
I actually saw the ad for the real life barbie dream house that was for rent a few weeks ago. When I think of the perfect place to live I think of California, specifically Malibu California. My dream house would have an infinity pool in the back yard with Justin Bieber sitting in it. It would be a 5 bedroom house and I would have a movie room, an indoor hot tub.
Hayden Carroll (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
When I think of the perfect place to live, I think of the North Carolina mountains. This has always been my happy place, which is why my dream house would be placed in the isolated comfort of these mountains, hidden away in the lush forests. My house would have more windows than glass to better see the expanse of the mountain ranges laid out in front of me. It would have wide wooden porches with plush furniture and a porch swing. There would be a fireplace to keep me warm and a hot tub to unwind in. The living room would look out over the mountains and be filled with couches and chairs to sit back in. I would want an open kitchen with a large island to host family and friends in. Most importantly, my dream house would be a comforting place for my family, one that they would call home. I want it to be the house where extended family and friends would always come for the holidays, and where my kids friends would always want to stay. For me, the most important aspect of a dream house would be that it felt like home for anyone that stepped in it.
Nathan Hackney (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
@Hayden Carroll I totally agree with you! I too have always wanted to live in the mountains. There is something about staring out into the calm chaos of a mountain range that just puts me at my center. The thing I liked most about your house though was that you wanted a fire. A fire in my opinion, not only warms a house but makes it a home, it makes the people gathered around it closer and more connected. At this day in age we don't need fire in the slightest. We have much more efficient ways of warming ourselves and cooking but I believe that fire can do something else that no human technology can. It unites. Unity is something that a home definitely needs, thus fire has never left the heart of our homes. Awesome Comment!

My dream house would be in the nicest neighborhood in the nicest weather. It would have to be the largest house there as I have to have a place for all my family and friends but they never have to see or hear each other. There would be a full indoor basketball court and a nice smaller soccer field outside with a golf course right to the side of my house that we could play at any time we wanted. Every room would have 100 MB of internet service and a 55-inch TV in every room with a PS4. There would be a gigantic swimming pool with a hot tub just as big but obviously shallow to chill in.
William Hudson (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
@Matthew Comet Everyone has thought about their dream house. What would you do if you won the lottery? The first decision would be the location of said dream house. I don’t think I could decide on one perfect location - I love to ski and hike in the mountains, surf at the ocean, and explore cities. So, I would live somewhere mobile like a house boat or an RV that would allow me to travel and still maintain a sense of home. The vehicle would be large enough to house friends, so that I could experience unique places with the people I am close to. I feel that experiencing something joyful is enhanced by the company of friends and family. As for the house itself, it woud have a movie room where I could view sporting events and play video games. It would have a secret room with a hidden lever - a childhood dream. I would also want a chef aboard, so I could enjoy delicious meals at any time of the day. However, what is important is the places I would go as well as the memories I would create as opposed to the house as a whole.
Joaquin (Kauai)
I've had many ideas about my dream house but now that I think about it, I would like it to be somewhere isolated. but not to isolated to the point i need to call a helicopter for an ambulance. have it somewhere in the mountains. I would love to have it a modern house with cool glass railing. I don't want it really big but have 3 bedrooms. a nice kitchen and living room with a flat screen TV. take one of those bedrooms and turn it into a game room with computer(s) with and Xbox and a TV just to relax in. The last thing is to have a ton of trees around the house and own about 10k acres to roam and explore to make a bike trail, with a small river in it. it may seem like a lot but I would like to just live comfortably in the woods.
Megan Mullins (Glenbard west, Glen Ellyn, IL)
My perfect home would start with me redoing an older house with cool architecture. Inside the house I would want it to feel welcoming, livable and cozy. However, at the same time, I would like to incorporate pieces that are very unique to the house. I would also want a large backyard that is full of plants and pretty trees which you could smell through the house, as throughout the house, there would be tall windows that you can open to feel as if you are outside. Having a dream kitchen would also make a house perfect for me. My dream kitchen at the moment would have to have white cabinets with a large island and clean looking counters. I love kitchens because I feel like it is the one place in the house where everyone always gathers and you make so many memories there without even realizing it. Finding and decorating my dream house when I am older is something I have always looked forward to.
Sophie (Kauai, Hawaii)
My dream house would be somewhat big, and a modern aesthetic. Most likely influenced by a minimalist lifestyle. It would also have a wooden interior, but also have glass surrounding the house to allow natural sunlight as a source of light, rather than using a lot of artificial lights. Having succulents around the house or plants that aren't such a burden to take care of would be great touches to the house as for decorations. I would want more high-quality furniture so that the living room is comfy and cozy for people to come over and hang out. Having a little workout room to stay healthy would also save money than spending monthly fees to go to the gym. For the kitchen, I would want a nice big space to bake and cook, and have family over to gather and eat. For the location, I'm not sure yet but I would want it to be someplace other than Kauai. Although Kauai has always been my home, I want to have a wide range of locations that I would like to consider and explore.
Carol Comet (HHHS)
I don't dream of having a big family in the future, maybe a boyfriend or a cat, but I'm comfortable with the idea of living alone, so I don't want to live in a big house with a yard to look after. I like the grip of the city and its facilities. I want to live in a small apartment, away from the hustle and bustle, but close to good restaurants, museums and public transportation.
CF (Minnesota)
My dream house would be in the country on a lake. I would have like 100 acres of land. I would have a boat, jet skis, water skis, tubes, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and a fishing dock. I would have an inground, outdoor pool. It wouldn't be a mansion, but it would be semi big. I would have 8 rooms and 5 bathrooms. It would be like a modern counrty house. I would want want plenty of hunting land. I would also have land for fourwheeling, dirtbkiking, and snowmobiling.
Carter Moses (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
@CF I agree with the location and features of your dream house. I have always dreamed about living on a lame with a lot of acres and hunting land and room for dirt bikes and 4-wheelers. Although I wouldn’t want my house to be that big I wouldn’t need to many bedrooms or bathrooms because there wouldn’t be that many people living with me to need that many bathrooms or bedrooms.

My dream house would consist of everything marvelous. You would never be bored and always feel content. If I had to pick the perfect place it would either be on a beachfront or on the side of a mountain with an overlooking infinity pool. This house would have maybe three or four stories because I mean you can’t have enough room. It would have the world's finest the kitchen because in my opinion the kitchen is a very important aspect of the house. By far the most important part of the house is the stairs. I love cool, fun, quirky, and unusual staircases. I am not sure what mine would look like but they would have to be grand and stick out when you walk into the house.
Nathan Hackney (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
This may seem like entitlement to someone reading my comment in a land-locked city, but as a beach dweller who drives my boat around as actual transportation to restaurants and shops and counts paddle-boards equal to bicycles in overall usefulness, I’ve always wanted to live in the mountains. When I think of my ideal home I picture a deceptively spacious cottage backed up to an untouched lake made alive by the fish, birds, bears, deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, bobcats, foxes, dragonflies, and beavers that all play a crucial role in the beauty and functionality of the gorgeous ecosystem. I see a small dock with an old frog gigging boat docked to it and a sprawling back porch. I envision my kids and grand kids making tee-pees and log cabins in the seemingly never ending untouched forest that embraces my homestead. As you walk into the house you’ll see a vaulted ceiling living room with exposed beams and family photos everywhere. Across from the door there are several floor to ceiling windows that allows the crystal clear light to stream in. The sort of light that only seems to be found where man isn’t. However, even with all of these dreams of a perfect house it’s what makes a house a home that matters. My family. My dream house is filled with my adopted kids from all around the world laughing, playing, crying, and learning. And it would be these tiny crazy residents that would not only give my home character, but make an old wooden box on a lake my dream house.

I mean you are probably lying if you say you have never fantasized about a dream house. You have, I have, your mom has. We all dream to live in a house of our creation, built just for us. In my dream house I see a pool and a jacuzzi. I have a comfy bed made for netflix binging and dreams. There is a reading nook, made just right to snuggle in and read on a rainy day. My house feels like a home. Dream homes are for us. They inspire us. They keep us going. Maybe one day I’ll achieve my house, maybe not.

I think that the picture in this article really caught my eye. There is a beautiful house pictured. With an insane pool and view. This just got me thinking what it would be like to live in my dream house in my dream location. I think that this would be so fun and such a good idea although I believe that there is a lot more than just the house you live in. This article started because Mattel teamed up with Airbnb. They did this to create a real life Barbie Dream house in Malibu. This was a huge marketing opportunity. If I could have a dream house it would be in Hawaii and it would be right on the water. My house would be modern but still beachy. This would be incredible to live on such a beautiful island and always be right at crystal clear water. Overall I think it would be fun to live in my dream house wherever I wanted but that is what you can take vacations for.
Mila (Kauai)
My dream house is one that I have envisioned since I was a little girl. It's a tree house that expands over a wide area, with bridges connection different rooms. Lots of windows, and very colorful and cozy. Not too far from other people, but private nonetheless. And a roof deck!
Clay Dean (Lihue, HI)
My dream home would be in the Sand Dunes in New Mexico, a few hundred miles away from any roads or other civilization. I'd have my own zip code, cell tower, and runway. The house would look a little something like this http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-91TPwCENDrY/UP3TtPJxR9I/AAAAAAAAPI4/dEHrjzXrHZQ/s1600/Modern_Desert_House_For_Luxury_Life_In_The_Nature_Scottsdale_Arizona_world_of_architecture_01.jpg, but the only difference is that there would be an African male lion in the front yard, about 5 ft tall. He would be the guard. In my house, the only people living there would be me and my wife. She would be the doctor, just in case anything terrible were to ever happen to me, such as cardiac arrest, or the cancer. We wouldn't have any kids, 'cause I don't want any, and she would be the one doing all the work. She's the one who'd be doing the dishes, laundry, carwashes, filling up gas (we'd have a gas pump near the driveway), and preparing meals. I'd just wait 'til she's done and then we could spend some time together. We would hop into the hot tub in the garage and turn on the bubbles, and the disco lights, and squeeze limes in our Corona's baby!
Malia (Kauai)
The home I've always dreamed of having is modern and minimalistic. I love not having so many things bunched together, it makes you feels free. Almost like a weights been lifted off your chest. I would want a garden in the back of the house filled with flowers and herbs as well as plants decorated inside my house. It would be a place where everyone feels free and welcome. A home that's comfortable and relaxing yet also aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. I would want it to be exactly what it's called - a home.
Eve (HI)
My dream house wouldn't be that big or super fancy, I want a modern two story house with lots of windows and a great view, I want to live in a smaller town in the suburbs, I don't know where exactly it would be. It would have a nice sitting area with cool modern-mid-century furniture and a big flat screen TV and a huge glass window to the side of it. The bed rooms and bathrooms would be upstairs, the guest bedroom would be downstairs. I'd have a big kitchen that had a rustic cabin feel to it and a nice dining area right next to it. The front yard would have a big tree and some cute flower beds right on the outside of the house. I'm really looking forward to being able to design my own home now.
Kirra (HI)
I have thought a lot about what my dream home would look like. I get a lot of ideas from movies that I really enjoy, most of them more vintage and old. I think I would want my house to be more medium-sized; not too big, but not too small, and located in more countryside Italy. I would want the outside of my house to be a calm cream color with lots of plants and trees outlining the sides and a front yard with plush grass and a stone walkway leading to the front door. Inside, there would be 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The living room would have a wall dedicated to a bookshelf where I would store my unhealthy collection of books. There would be a wall that has huge windows and overlooks the oceans, mountains, and other towns. I would want there to be a spiral staircase that connects the top room to the bottom and a big backyard for my dog(s). The rooms would be airy and calm, with old movie posters and pictures of my trips with my family on the walls. I would want to live alone (unless I find a special someone) but be close to some friends so I do not get lonely. I would also want a beautiful garden that I can walk through a pick a variety of fruits and vegetables. In the middle of the garden would be a small pool surrounded with white tiles and a gazebo for relaxing in the late afternoon sun. My house would be safe, with soft touches of my dream career (archology) and paintings I have collected over the years.
Georgia (Kauai)
My dream house will be known as the most fun and creative house on Kauai on a big property where I have no restrictions. I want color and fun activities inside my home. The style I prefer is beachy, retro-modern. I want a slide, pool, (with fun heights to jump from), trampoline, skate ramp, swings, theater room, pool table, and many fun games. I would also have fun outdoor toys like four-wheelers, dirt bikes, and jet skis. The list would go on forever. I want my house to be big. 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms. Open big windows to see the beautiful island. A big open concept. 2 floors. I would like to have people over when I want and for them to be comfortable.
Veda (HI)
I thought about my dream house a lot when I was little and it mostly involved lots of pets and water slides. It also floated on clouds. My idea of a dream house is a little different now; a little more realistic. There would be a master bedroom for myself and my best friends for when they visit. I would want my cousin, Emma, to live in my house. I would have horses in my backyard that someone else takes care of. There will be a field behind my house that I can ride them in too. I want a lake in my yard as well with a water slide. There would also be a jacuzzi of course. I will have basically a restaurant in my house with different chefs that are each an expert in different kinds of foods. There will probably two Thai-food expert chefs. I will have my own beauty staff that does my hair and makeup every day as well as a stylist that chooses my outfits but knows exactly what I like to wear. My house will have an indoor gym and movie theater. All the toilets will have bidet toilets like the Hyatt. There will be a big garden with herbs and vegetables I can pick off when I please. The orchard will be full of fruit trees that I can read a book under in a hammock. The house will be located somewhere where it is warm and sunny in the summer, but cold and snowy in the winter. I've always wanted to live somewhere I can sled down a snowy hill. There are so many other things I would like to incorporate in my house but don't have the time or typing space. I think that covers most of it.
Alla Baba (Hawaii)
I love beach houses. My dream house would be on a beach in Hawaii, especially at one of the places I regularly surf. My house would be modern but not elaborate, the perfect party house. My dream house would also have an outside deck area, board room, and a surf shack where I can custom make my own boards. The last part of my dream house would be a wave simulator pool so when the waves are out of season I can still get in some surf.
Averi (HAWAII)
In my perfect dream house, it would be located in Iceland, and the house would be kinda Brooklyn townhouse style. (Even though the styles don't really work together;)) I would have it painted a light blue and white trim. I would have a breakfast nook in the kitchen, and a theatre room and a design room where I can do all sorts of creative things. I would have a pool and a cute garden area like in European houses with the large gardens that the royals would take walks in. And I would decorate it modernly so that it is cozy enough to feel homey.
Nene (America)
In my dream house, it would be a very modern minimalist. I would like a small studio apartment. With the walls painted white so it looked clean. Then a simple kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Nothing to the complex just simple looking and the capability to do its task. Preferably I'd like to use electric to the minimum so I'd downsize most appliances such as having a mini-fridge rather a large fridge and only having a shower than an entire bathtub. I would also not have much room consuming furniture such as a futon than a bed and kotatsu rather a sofa. I believe the less you have the less you need to worry about. I also wouldn't need a large office size desk just a simple foldable coffee table would do to work on. In my dream house, it would be a very modern minimalist. I would like a small studio apartment. My perfect dream house would be a 3 story thin forest green Victorian/Edwardian house with a peaked roof, bare red brick interior walls and hardwood floors, set in the middle of a semi-busy street. The bottom floor would be a bookshop that I owned with a straight staircase leading to the 2nd floor. The 2nd floor would be my living space, it would be all open; with no separating walls and a spiral staircase leading to the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor would be my studio where I would make art, build things, and keep my own book collection. On my walls would be framed vinyl and posters of all kinds. The bathroom would have an antique footed tub and tile floors. The kitchen would have an old mustard yellow stove from the '80s and one of those fridges with the freezer on top. The living room would have a pullout couch bed for visitors and be at the front of the house looking out of one big french glass window opening to a balcony. My studio would be smaller with only a medium port hole attic window that you could crack open. I would have singular pull string lights placed all around. I would have a big wooden workshop table in the middle of the room. I would have 2 dogs living with me; a boy golden retriever and a girl pitbull, both fixed.
Davin (Hawaii)
Ahh, a dream home. If I was to get my dream house, I would live in Kauai, with a mansion built somewhere in Wainiha. The mansion would be four stories with food, clothing, activities, and job districts that would allow residents to purchase or receive all needed amenities. I would have furniture from some really spendy furniture stores, along with furniture for my dogs. I would build a personal greenhouse to grow all of my fruits, vegetables, and flowers. On the top level of the house, a penthouse like design would be implemented to allow for maximum partying. I would include a slide from the top of the home to the bottom, to allow for speedy departures. Overall, I feel a lot of my home would be for quality of life and nothing else.
Jade (the galaxy)
Above all, I believe that home is where the heart is present, however, if I'm being honest with myself about today's materialistic stereotypical mindset, of wanting to hone physical items. Then I know that I would walk into my dream house, it would be made entirely of glass. It would be overlooking a huge vast ocean from a cliff. And if you walked in, there would be a pool a huge infinity pool, heated of course. With a sauna present in the backyard if you looked straight ahead, to your right would be a spiral staircase leading up to the 5 rooms on top. While there would be 4 rooms on the bottom for guests. If you looked to you left and walked down a corridor you'd hit the kitchen, in all its grandness. A huge island in the middle, with a dual stove, and a personal chef. If you continued a bit to the right and down a doorway, you'd hit the living room. There would be a huge crystal chandelier in the center. The floors would be marble, and there would be mirrors lining one wall (for dance practice) and then on the opposite side of the mirrored wall, would be a grand dining table. If you continue walking straight, you'd find a door to the "backyard" there would be a huge orchard with all of Hawaii's native plants, and some that would be imported. There would be a big hedge maze and a fountain within the center of it. and if you were to zoom out to an above-ground perspective, there would be a moat/flowing river surrounding the entire property, branching off here and there.
Bill (mars)
My dream house would be some where up in the mountains with a nice view with a large area to have a pasture with a pond and not to far from a ski park some where that it would have nice snow. I would also like it to have multiple trees like apple and plum so I could also get a few animals in my yard to put in the refrigerator for meat.
Momoko (Kauai, HI)
My dream house would be a big and simple house with 5 bedrooms, with a backyard, basement and a pool. If I have a family, I would want them to have their own rooms but not too big of a house so we can always see each other frequently. I would love to live in a house with a view, where it is not too populated or unpopulated, and where it doesn't get too cold or hot. I would also love to have neighbors around, so we could hang out or get help if we want.
Jojo (Planet Earth)
First of all, I don't think I would want my dream house to be a massive, grandiose creation. When I was younger, I always wanted my dream house to be as large as possible: this huge, looming castle. But now I imagine my home to be a medium-sized, rather colorful place. I want lots and lots of windows to allow the sunlight to stream in and light up even the darkest parts of the house. I want high ceilings because they always make houses seem spacious and calming. I think I would have some real indoor plants - fake plants are lame - and probably an indoor pool because why the heck not. My dream home would have speakers implemented in the ceilings and walls so when I played music, it would be "surround sound" like the movie theaters. As for location, I think I would still be on Kauai. As much as I want to say I would be down to go create some mind-blowing house in Europe or another country, it wouldn't feel like home. Lastly, I wouldn't want to live in the house by myself. That sounds lonely and empty. My dream house is inhabited by my family and maybe even some close friends.
Saige (Kauai, hawaii)
My house would probably be a 2 story house with the kitchen on the bottom and 2 rooms on the top. Both of the rooms are probably gonna be 2 different themes. Like one-room beach and another Hawaiian. The kitchen is gonna be very modern with an island and stuff. The living room is gonna be a mash of both Hawaiian and beach. The bathrooms are gonna very simple. The house is gonna be AC to the max. There is gonna be stairs of course. The stairs are gonna be those spiral stairs. The living room is gonna have a fat window with curtains. There's gonna be a medium-sized tv and small TVs in both of the bedrooms. In the master bedroom there is gonna be a walk-in closet with His and Hers. The Guest bedroom there is another walk-in closet. Outside is gonna be a nice garden with trees. That's all I can think of.
Nkozi Spore (Kauai, Hawaii)
In my dream house, I would have it to be on a cliff over the ocean. My office would have a nice view of a nice small beach. These things help me to relax by taking a minute and realize what is in front of me. It would be nice if it were two stories because of the feng shui. I don't want that much because I just need something that is a nice quiet home that I can use as a getaway from stress.
Renee Regnier (Nipomo High School)
My dream house would be a house like the one I have. It's not too big . I just want enough space to have a dog or 2 and the need a backyard to run in. Also I would need a spare room just in case my twin would come over. I would also want to know someone with a pool because I don't want one myself.
kailene (kauai)
in my dream home, I would have everything I want! It would be located by the beach so that I can surf whenever I like. I wouldn't want it too big but also not too small. I would like a size perfect for me. I would like to have a deep pool so I could practice holding my breath underwater. What I also want is a lot of space in my personal room. So I would like a really big closet for all my things. I also want it to be 2 stories so I can have a porch to look at the view. I kinda just want a quiet, relaxing home that is very homie and doesn't look too rich for me. I want a big kitchen and a big living room to fit the family in. But the most bedrooms I would want is probably at the most 3 and 2 bathrooms plus one bathroom in my room. Kinda like a beach house in Tahiti.
Ben Marcinkowski (Lubbock, Texas)
In my dream home, there would be everything I’ve ever wanted. Not too big, but not small at all. More of a medium sized home for a decent sized family so that I don’t lose people in it. It would be “beautiful” on the outside. More of just a modern house, or whatever is considered modern in the current time period. On the inside would be similar to the house I live in now: living room right when you walk in, child room on the west side of the house, adult/master bedroom on the east side near the kitchen. The location of the house would be somewhere more up north. Reason being, the views are just too nice to not want to build there. The outside of the house would be as natural as possible. Keep as many trees as possible and only mow grass that is longer than the average. The only thing that would be man made is a medium sized pool towards the back of the house.
Charlotte Todd (Hoggard High School)
Home, the place you spend most of your time, the place you feel comfort, the place you grow up. When I think of the perfect home I don't think of it physically because that's not what matters. In my perfect home you have the ability to be yourself without repercussions. You have family meals each night, and movie nights on Thursdays. You are able to make mistakes without the fear of disappointment, or tell the truth instead of lying to get out of trouble. In my perfect home you feel loved by your family no matter what. I'm not saying my house is perfect, but it has everything I need inside of it, inside of each member of the household. The characteristics that build me as a person as I grow up inside, that's what makes a perfect home. In the article they brought the Barbie Dream House to life in Malibu. The pops of pink throughout the mansion is any young girls dream. However it lacks that family aspect, there's no shar-pei wagging it's tail around, or my bedroom with a ballet bar that my mom built. If I were to pick my “perfect” home, I’d pick mine over the barbie house any day.
Brennan Stabler (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
@Charlotte Todd I think you beautifully wrote this comment, Charlotte! I agree that a perfect home isn't what it looks like physically but how it makes you feel. And I also agree that the Barbie Dream House is every little girls dream but your personal dream home is special to us.
Lauren Carr (Lubbock, TX)
Many people grow up dreaming of a huge mansion filled to the brim with all the new appliances, furniture, and toys, but not me. My dream home has always been just that- a home. A place where the people I love the most can gather together and share stories about their day-to-day life, and eat meals surrounded by laughter. The house of my dreams isn’t nessicarily a place, it’s the idea of people gathering together to build each other up and share tough things in a comfortable place. If that means an actual four walled building with beds, bathrooms, fireplaces, and a kitchen, great! If it means a campground with a firepit andd a picnic table, even better. Home doesn’t always mean place, it means people, memories, community.
Kallie Blacklock (Lubbock)
When I think about what I would want in my dream house so many things come to mind. The only place I do know were I would want it to be located though would be somewhere in Colorado. Colorado has so much to offer like, the sharp mountains, fresh air and bright skies. My house would be rather big but not massive. With lots of windows for light and the feeling of being apart of the mountains. I would like the latest technology and newest appliances. Now for specific rooms like I’ve always dreamed of having, a movie room, a game room and plenty of bedrooms for my family. Everything would have a modern, clean but rustic look with wood incorporated to give it a little bit of a cabin feel. I would love to have a nice pool and hot tub as well. I think that life in Colorado with my dream house would be perfect.
Taylor McCall (Lubbock, Texas)
My dream house would be a modern, country home. It would be all white and have sliding barn doors inside the house. There would be tons of windows and open rooms. I would want to have a big backyard with a pool and a nice pool house with an outdoor kitchen. There would be big, beautiful light fixtures in the kitchen and dining room. I would want wood floors and comfy couches and chairs. In the front of the house, I would have a big porch with white pillars and lots of trees in the front yard. This would be my perfect, dream house.

I'm from Texas, and everyone knows that everything's bigger in Texas, that would include my dream house. Im just going to say it now, my dream house is very unrealistic. It would be located on the lake, and it would be surrounded by a high fence for hunting. It also includes an indoor pole vault pit and a flowrider surf machine. I would also throw in a lazy river that surrounds the whole property. I would invite all my best friends and allow them to work on my property if they would like.
Lauren Cleveland (Lubbock, Texas)
At a young age, I have always fantasized about my dream home. Skyscraper ceilings, modern interior, and the minimalist feel is my ideal space. A home is a place where you love to live, unlike a house which can just be random walls to some. That is why my dream home will be somewhere I go to retreat after a long day. My dream home would have almost nothing in it. I live a very minimalistic life, and I find I act better in those types of spaces. I equivalate an empty room to a clear mind. If there is an overabundance of furniture and decorations I find myself stressing out and not being able to relax. My dream home will be empty with room to grow and prosper. It will be luxurious and serene. Walking into my dream home would relax any person at any given time.
Aspen Sulistio (Lubbock)
My dream house would be on an unpopulated island somewhere in the Pacific. Somewhere where there are coral reefs, but also lush jungle. My house would be right next to the shore, and have a boat dock that leads into the house. The house would be moderately sized; not too big. I would have a studio to make music, and a place to store photography equipment. This dream house would be very open with a courtyard in the middle with lots of native plants. Around the property of the house and in different places on the island, I would have photo-blinds so I could take photos of the resident wildlife. Though the house would be nice, I would probably spend little time in it. Ultimately the location is the most important part of my dream house.
Cooper Hyldahl (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
Many people go to bed at night and dream of sprawling mansions surrounded by lush gardens and fountains, but not me. I dream of having a small, modern house or apartment in the city. I have always known that I want a small house because honestly, I'm the laziest and stingiest person I know when it comes to cleaning. When I see a massive house, all I can think about is all the time the owner has to spend cleaning that amount of square footage or all the money they are spending on housekeeping. I would much rather spend my time and money on things that are fun and make my life more enjoyable and fulfilling. I say a city because I love the idea of being able to step out on the sidewalk and have virtually everything you will ever need within walking distance. Although this fantasy is an untested one and I am not sure if I would actually like living in the city or if I just like the idea of it, life in the city has always called to me. In actuality, I think I might be scared to step outside of my apartment in a city because of the high crime rates, but the idea is nice. Before I grow older, have kids, move to the suburbs, and buy a minivan, I would like to achieve my dream of living in a tiny and modern house in the city or on the outskirts of a city, just to say that I followed through on my childhood dream.
Jillian Steeves (Danvers, MA)
I wouldn't care so much about the size or contents of my house itself, but more so its surroundings. I would love to live in a house in the cultural epicenter of whichever country it's in. For me, living in my dream house would mean looking out the window and seeing a great view, whether it be skyscrapers or a beautiful mountain skyline. It would mean walking out the door and being within walking distance of great museums, theaters, and restaurants. And of course, it would mean lots of interesting neighbors who I could mingle with. Fortunately, this means that for me, living in my dream house is not completely out of the question; it is just a matter of finding the right location.
Jackson Bruins (Hoggard High School, Wilmington, NC)
I have thought about having a dream house, but I don’t fantasize about having one. My ‘perfect home’ would be relatively large, but not the size of a mansion. I would want it to be in a place of good location, like close to a town or city, and maybe a place of enjoyment like the beach. I would want to have a fairly large yard and driveway, because I like to play sports like basketball and soccer. The inside of the house would preferably be semi-modern, with a nice large kitchen with modern appliances. The house would be spacious and open, with a few bedrooms and two floors, the second floor being a basement. Having some of the fancy gadgets would be nice, like having a roomba and stuff like that. Overall, I would like a place where I can go home and be happy and relaxed. A place where I can enjoy myself and not be stressed. Having a place like that would be the most important part to me, but I’m sure that my family, whether it is my family now or in the future, would be able to make a place that’s not so perfect a home. As for staying in a place like a Wienermobile, I think it would be a fun experience to try. I think Airbnb had a good idea to bring together a bunch of cool places like those and give people the opportunity to stay in some of them. I’m sure there are other people like me that would give these exotic opportunities a chance.
Hope Heinrichs (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
High ceilings, with a beautifully clean, modern interior, matched with blues and grays, I can picture my dream home quickly. The dwelling slowly unfurls with at least five bedrooms and bathrooms while my floorplan is open. There are amazing windows so I can see life at it’s fullest and a pool with a hot tub in the back. My dream home is perfect for me, so after hearing about a hot dog camper, a barbie dream house, and a blimp, I was surprised that anyone would want to stay there. It turns out that Airbnb partnered with different organizations to create these weird and wacky homes to stay in for vacation. I think it’d be crazy to be able to stay in exotic places, but with the thousand dollar price tag for just a couple of nights, it’s a pretty big dealbreaker. I would love to travel the world and be able to tell my friends that I’ve stayed the night in a blimp, century-old cottage, or maybe if I’m lucky Hogwarts. Until Airbnb can find a harmonic balance between amazing places with affordable prices, I’ll settle with looking at pictures of them instead.
Ainsley Woodruff (Hoggard High School : Wilmington, NC)
Unlike many other I actually prefer a small home I couldn’t see myself in a larger home or a mansion so to speak. A larger home like that would make me feel very lonely. I do have a dream location for said house and it is on the beach like California or Florida. I would definitely want my house to be as modern as possible with all types of cool gadgets like roombas and solar panels, all those cool gadgets you see on Instagram that hold your toothbrushes, the cool beds thats have the slides on them that we dreamed to have when we were little. Living in the Barbie dreamhouse that was mentioned in the article would be such an amazing opportunity. I wouldn’t want to live there personally because I feel although it would devalue it. Renting it for the summer would be so cool. Being that my favorite color is pink it would be pretty cool to spend the summer there.
Rhett Comet (Hanover Horton High School)
I have always thought about living in my dream home. My dream home would have the greatest views in the world. My dream home would be located in Honolulu, Hawaii right on the water. I would have a massive kitchen (because I love food) with bolted ceilings. I'd also have a massive living room to do things with the family. Throughout the whole house I would have giant windows showing the greatest views. I would most definitely have a movie theater and a large hot tub. My family would live with me, my friends, and my significant other.
Ainsley Woodruff (Hoggard High School : Wilmington, NC)
@Rhett Comet I would love to have a big kitchen too. Not only because I love food but I also have a passion for cooking. I find it very interesting that you would want your friends to live in the same house as you. Although I love my friends I don't think I would ever just invite all my friends to live with me. I don't think I would be able t stay sane with all my friends in the same house as me. there would be no way to get time away from them.
Griffin Comet (Hanover Horton High School)
Most people spend a lot of their lives at home. Having a nice home to spend most of my life in is one of my goals. If I could build a dream home right now it would be in Santa Barbara California. I'd have a pool and a hotub with a sauna room, home theater, and a personal chef. I want a huge living room with tons of couches so all the boys can hang out. I'd have ping pong tables pool tables and video games in the basement.
William A Comet (Hanover-Horton High School)
My dream house would be a house that is pretty big.It would be somewhere warm and on a beach. It would have a room just for video games and have a really good computer, and a couple of consoles. I would get a pool inside and get a hot tub in my room. I would put in a weight room and a basketball court, so I don't have to travel to a gym. My dream house would have a theater and all the new movies that come out.
Mason Comet (Horton MI)
My dream house would be out in the middle of the woods in Colorado. It would be a log cabin with old antique hunting equipment and animals on the walls. There would be antique barn wood walls and wood flooring. The house would have a chandelier that has antlers. Also there would be a pool table and a hot tub outside with a patio that has a grill and a fire pit. I would have a 10 car garage with old muscle cars and a lifted truck.
Alex Comét (HHHS)
My dream house is simple. It’s three stories and has a basement. There is a porch and a two-door garage. The pool is saltwater and there is a hot tub. I would want some land to do whatever I wanted on and maybe a lake or pond or river somewhere so I could cool off. Plus I like fishing and shooting so the land would be perfect for that.
Oscar Comet (Hanover Horton High School)
If I could have a dream house, I would have it on the beach of Nicaragua. It would be near the Magnificent Rock. With crashing waves and elegant breezes of air. The feeling of the air would be evermore lifting to my spirit. The place of my dream house alone is more than enough for me to be happy.
MaKayla Comet (Hanover Horton)
I've always looked forward to growing up and having my own family in my dream house. It be placed at the top of a subdivision and be the biggest house on the block. Id want my home to be somewhere where warm and be white. Id love to have a porch that wraps around the entire house and a grey/white exterior. It would have several glass windows and a tall chimney above. On the inside I would have a kitchen filled with the most expensive appliances and have grey marble tops. Id want a huge living room with a 90 inch Television and a huge window looking out onto the ocean I'd live on. There would be four extra rooms for my children and guest and then a master room for myself and husband. The master would have a huge bathroom and two walk in closets. Our bed would be and California king that would stand tall looking out a grand window to the ocean. My house would also include a three door garage and a pool. Id love to have an elevator to reach all four floors of my house. On the top floor, there would be a movie theater and a play room full of candy and arcade games. The third floor would consist of two bedrooms and two baths, while the second floor would have the same. The first floor would have the master room, kitchen, living room, sauna, and another extension to the house called "The Guest Portion" of the house. This is my dream home, and I'd love to have this for a home but I better start saving now.
Avery Lemley (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
@MaKayla This sounds like anyone's dream house. And while of course its nice and something I would enjoy, there are a few things I have higher on my list of wants. A home where my children feel free to roam and explore, to create there own adventure. To give them a place to love. Love having their friend over, a house full of life and laughter. A place they and I both feel safe. But hey, a 90 inch TV never hurt nobody.
Lucas Comet (HHHS)
My dream house is rather simple at the moment. I imagine a nice cottage close to Lake Michigan or has it’s own pool, enough space for around three people, fully stocked library, and far from a lot of people. Mainly because I don’t particularly enjoy hearing/seeing into other people's lives, and vice versa. Other than that, maybe a few game systems and tv would make it perfect.
Trent Comet (Hanover)
I have always had an idea for my dream home. I want a home in the country with lots of hunting land. I want a big cabin with lots of room inside. It would have tall ceilings so there is lots of room to do things inside. I would have a big living room with a bunch of deer and other animals hanging on the walls. I would also want a big swimming pool in the backyard where I could swim or hangout whenever I want. I would also have a big patio with a fire pit next to it so I can barbecue and have bonfires during the summer. My dream home will be located in Vail, Colorado. I chose Vail because it is very beautiful in Colorado.
Aubrey Comet (Hanover Horton High school)
The perfect house for me would be a white farm house in the country. I want to have a two story house, and it will be white. On the inside I want it to be rustic, and also super cozy. I really want to have a wrap around porch where I can wake up and go watch the sunrise while standing on it. This house would be on a lot of land where I can hunt. I also want to have a big kitchen in this house. It will have an island, lots of cabinets, and everything will look super nice. I also want to have a big fire place as one of the main things you see in the living room. This would be my perfect house.
Aislyn Comet (Hanover-Horton High School)
If I could design my dream house and live anywhere I want, I would live in Bora Bora. It would be one of those houses that are built on the water and have a long dock and stairs leading down to the water. I would want a huge glass door and my interior be all white and modern. I would want my spouse to live their with me when I am older until I have children. It would be two stories and a very beautiful kitchen. I would also want a huge living room with a big TV that is mounted on the wall. I think living in a house like this would be a dream come true and I hope one day I could take a vacation to stay in one of these houses.
Tayler HHHS (Hanover)
My dream house would be a medium sized house that had a lot of bedrooms and a big kitchen and living room. It must sit on a huge piece of land that I can do absolutely anything I wanted to on. I would prefer that it was in the country but close enough to drive a few mins to town if needed. The house must have three bathrooms and one of those bathrooms to have a master bathroom and a standing glass shower with heated tiles for the floor. I think ill paint the house dark blue and have a metal roof to hear the rain in the spring. I will build a fancy white-picket fence that surrounds the main portion of my backyard so my future dogs can roam freely without heavy supervision or those annoying leads that get tangled when they try to run. The house must be heavily insulated due to myself always being extremely cold and the harsh Michigan winters.
Braedon Comet (HHHS)
My dream house would be a very nice house. First thing to my house would be that I would want it to be on a lake that’s really nice. In this house I would want it to be huge with a weight room in the basement. Just a really nice kitchen and living room with a huge television and a great surround system. Also I would like to have it where we had like a popcorn machine and just a bunch of great food and fun stuff to have in this house
Grace Comet (Hanover-Horton Mi)
My dream house would be in Scotland, in the rolling hills surrounded by plains and sheep. I would have my own farm. My house would have a lofty cabiny feeling to it. Chickens in the front yard, and chopped wood leaning against the house. We would have a herding dog and a tabby cat. Even if this is not the kind of house get, the "perfect house" is where my family and my boyfriend is.
Kurtis (Hanover-Horton High School, MI)
My dream house would just be simple. Yes it would be a big house of 4-5 rooms and a few bathrooms. I would have all my animal mounts. There would be a big wood furnace in my living room. I would have my grand dads gun he gave me hung on the wall. It would be a log house off the grid. So I would have a few hundred acres of land to hunt and hopefully fish on.
Evan Comet (Hanover-Horton High school)
My Dream House would cost millions of dollars. It would have many bedrooms and bathroom so I could have the boys over. It would have a nice big pool and hot tub. It would sit on a large size piece of land. I would have a massive garage to work on cars and dirt bikes. I would have a large track to practice and ride on. Also I would have trails to ride. I would put in a basketball court and a large movie theater. It would be amazing and everyone would want to come hangout their.
Jack Co (Hanover Horton High School)
I have always wanted to have a nice house, who doesn't? My dream house would be gigantic and it would have at least six bedrooms and it would be located in Vail, Colorado. It would be up in the mountains away from other houses so I have some privacy as well. I would have an indoor pool, basketball court, and also a driving range. My living rooms would all have huge couches along with fire places and 80 inch TV's. I also would have a big island kitchen and my own chef to make me food. I would let family and friends stay whenever they want. Vail is my favorite place and a great place to snowboard so that would be my ideal spot.
Kaden Comet (HHHS)
My dream house is relatively simple, a little bigger than the average house. The rooms would be larger than most with nothing to crazy involved. 3-5 bedrooms and a few bathrooms, the outside of the house must be well kept and clean, the inside the same but that’s not nearly as much work as the outside. The yard needs to have a descent size to it, and the house needs to be a decent distance from the road.
Abby Comet (Horton)
Having a nice house of my own is a dream. To make it my dream house it'll be on the ocean in South Carolina. It would be a modern farm house. It'll have 7 bedrooms, this is for when I have company staying over. It'll also have 4 full bathrooms. It would have three levels, where the first has a spiral staircase. Lastly, it would have a huge living room with a massive fire place to stay cozy.
Taryan Comet (Hanover Horton High School)
When I was younger I always had the dream of living on a farm and having a giant log house in the deep woods of Montana. The house would be so isolated the only noises I would hear are the noises of the birds whistling and the trees swaying in the wind. The house would be located on a mountain side, so when the view to the gorgeous sunset and sunrise appears through the branches of the trees. After growing up my dream house has changed.... a lot. my dream house now is a beach house somewhere on the coast of California or Florida. My house will be lifted off the ground just in case of any hurricanes. It will be large and isolated from everyone. I will have my own property to do whatever I want and I don't have to worry about anyone else. Every morning I can wake up to the sound of the waves crashing into the shore and the bright pink/purple sunrise. At night I can walk the long beach and feel the cool wind while smelling the salty air. Now this, this is my dream house.
Toby Comet (hanover)
My dream house would be a big log house in the middle of the woods. I would have a big wrap around porch. then as soon as you walk in there are deer heads, fish mounts, and elk hanging on the wall. then a nice big rock fire place. In the living room there would be a bear skin rug with nice leather couches and a camo recliner. Also a huge T.V.
Daniella Liang (J.R. Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
I have always wanted a perfect house. I want a nice 3 floored cottage with a pool. That way I can go swimming anytime I want! It would probably cost a lot of money, so I've been saving money up!!
Emma Dunne (Hoggard Highschool in Wilmington, NC)
Ever since I can remember I have had an idea of a “perfect” house. My dream house. As I got older that idea changed! We had been living in our old house for about 7 years and that’s all I knew. Only knowing that house for the styles of houses in the United States (moving from Ireland prior) my perfect house was built in my head. We recently built a new house and I had my new and improved designs of what I would love for our house to look like. When designing our house my mom wanted similar features that I did and she came to me for thoughts. By the end of our designing and building I had the realization that I could always have that “perfect” house idea in my head but what I had was better. A house my family worked on and spent time building. That then became my perfect house.
Kyla Bills (Lubbock, Texas)
I have fantasized about my dream house, and it’s always different because I want a nice big house and then the inside it is different each time. But I do know that I want it to be on a piece of land with some animals, almost like a farm or ranch or something like that. I want a big house with a two story but I don’t know what the future holds so who knows what my house would be. I do know that I would want to stay in Texas but I want to be in a small town but big enough for people to know where it is at. That is what I have fantasized about my dream house.
Kayle Garza (Lubbock, TX)
Yes, I have fantasized about having my own house that i gotta create and make my own from the ground up. I want a friendly and loving home to where everyone feels welcomed and at home all the time. It would be big but at the same time I don't want it humongous i just want it to be a good size. I want it to have an upstairs and a basement. I would want like six room two big room, two regular rooms, a movie room, and a game room. I would want a big open kitchen because I love to bake and cook that's connected to a dining room by a wall and a door. And the living room open but you can see the kitchen and stairs. I would love high ceilings with a tall front door with a window at the top. I would want an office with a picture window in it. I would also want a big backyard with a high fence. It would probably be on a land that's kinda by itself and I would probably be living with the person im with or family.
Holly (Curry)
Ever since I was in middle school, I have been obsessed with driving around and looking at houses. I love looking at houses and I can't wait to design my own one day. When I design my own house when I’m married, I want everything to be perfect. Anyone that knows me, knows I am a perfectionist and want everything to be organized. I’ve always wanted to have a modern, elegant decorated house in all kinds of decor. I want a two story house with spiral stairs going up to a balcony in the house that will also overlook the big pool in the backyard. Outside in the backyard, there will be a huge pool with a swim up bar built in, with a slide, tanning chairs, and an outside kitchen. Once I have kids, a playground and trampoline will added. Inside, I want a big kitchen because I like to cook, a big living room because I love having family over and I would love to have them over for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I will also love to have a basement because I have always wanted to have a “movie theatre” room and a basement will be absolutely perfect. The home itself will be so fun to plan and build, but I can't wait to have my family make it a home one day. Family is one of the biggest things in my life that are important to me and I look forward to all of the memories to be made in my very own house one day.
Vivian Armendariz (Lubbock, TX)
My dream house would be structured around family. Instead of dreaming of the perfect home for myself, I would want a house that is inviting. The house would consist of large spaces to fit my big family. It will have more than one living room and a dining table that fits up to 20 people. The interior of the house would be very simple and modern while still being welcoming. On the outside, I would want a large yard and a big pool to throw big barbeques. The kitchen would be spacious, and the patio would be large with lots of seating areas. Lastly, there would be around 7 rooms to house anyone that would want to stay over.
Carly Hamilton (Lubbock, TX)
I think my perfect house wouldn’t necessarily be the house itself, but more so the feel. I believe that a house should be a home, a place that feels safe and happy. I don’t have a specific preference on housing, but I want to travel often; therefore, I will likely live in something easily affordable, such as an apartment. Later in life once I settle down, I want to live in a family home in the Austin area. Housing isn’t the most important aspect to me, as I love change and I most likely will not stay in one place for long. The feeling of the house when I’m living in it, or the hominess, is what matters most to me.
Kiersten (Bourquin)
My dream house would be located on a few acres of land in the country. I would love to have a big house with lots of land for the kids to play on. On my land, I would love to have a big pool and pool house to enjoy during the summer time. A pond in the front of my house would be amazing, with little fish swimming around. Inside my dream house, I imagine a big staircase at the entrance of my home, and the stairs spiral upwards. I would want a large kitchen to serve and prepare meals in. I can't wait until I get to build and design my dream home one day.
Jaime Edwards (Lubbock Texas)
I have always imagined what my house would look like whenever I’m older. I want to have a ranch style home with land, so my kids will be able to do a lot outside. I want to have room for four-wheelers, a pond, and big trees. I could just imagine having my family come over for Thanksgiving, and all the nieces and nephews play together. Family is very important to me, so I want my house to have a homey feel. I love cooking, so having a big kitchen would be needed. I want two boys, so I also need a big pantry to keep a lot of food. I love houses that have stone and brick on the outside, with a nook built in to the side of the house. My husband of course is going to build the house, and I will do all the interior design. I want to make all my own personal touches to my house, and it be my family forever home. I have a lot too look forward to in the future.
Jake Bandy (Lubbock, TX)
My dream house would be located in colorado on a peak. It would be an estate styled mansion. It would be about a mile from the mountain resort and I would be able to ski off my front yard. The exterior would be oak wood plated with a full balcony with a pool and hot tub on it, I would also have a porch with a grill and mini kitchen. The interior would consist of secret rooms and a real modern touch. Comfortable but unique, I would also have a mini garage on the side with four wheelers with a path down to my lake house thats half a mile away.
Dawson Peck (Lubbock, Texas)
If I got the choice to build my dream home from the ground up with an unlimited budget, I would create a mansion that is specifically designed to throw the craziest parties known to man. I would begin doing this by building the house on a half circle layout, with the house wrapping around a large pool and pool house in the middle. Overlooking the pool, I would have a giant balcony that is attached to the master suite, which would be plastered with windows that stretch from the floor to the ceiling all around the room.
