They are watching the moon landing look at the guys magazine
Atom (Every were)
There are 19 people
Adrianna (SC)
In this picture, I see a bunch of white people that are gathered staring at something. I think that they’re looking at the news or something. They kind of look confused &/or really focused. I wonder what they’re really doing & why?
Atom (Every were)
@Adrianna there are 19 people
Kamil (South Carolina)
In this picture, there is a bunch of white people standing outside with the same facial expression. I think they could be watching something happening inside the building.Whatever that is going on inside made them surprised and upset.
Nyla (SC)
I see a group of caucasian people looking at something. I think they are looking at a TV with the news on it. I wonder why they look like that.
Mrs.McElarth (1st block)
This picture shows how people are watching the Apollo 11 taking off into space.
McElrath (1st Block)
In this picture in think the picture they are watching something on the tv. This picture reminds me of when my family and I sit in the living room and watch tv.
Project Learn Adult ESL Class (Stow, OH)
we think that this picture shows a large crowd of people watching TV. They are gathered outside of a store. They dressed for work in an old fashioned style, The people look concerned. This picture was taken downtown, in a US city.
Graeme (SC)
I think it is black Friday and everyone is waiting for the store to open.I see people looking through a window. I wonder if this is in the 1900’s.
M. Henderson (SC)
I see a lot of people crowded around a large window. I think this is a reenactment of one of the first black Fridays. I wonder why this picture was taken?
Allie (SC)
They’re watching a black person vote or watching to see who the president will be. I wonder what they’re looking at. I see that the people look disappointed or shocked, the woman in the front has a shocked look. The two men, on the far left of her beside the podium, looking object have a shocked look.
Joseph (SC)
I think it is black Friday or a speech because there is like a podium right there. I wonder if they are watching tv. They are watching the Apollo 11 mission.
Mrs. McElrath (1st block)
In this picture, I see a lot of women and men standing outside a window. In this photo, I believe a new shop is opening up in town and they are looking inside to review how the process is going. I think that when the shop opens up people will be pouring inside to sample or taste their new product.
McElrath (Block 1)
The first thing I noticed in this picture was that it was in black & white-meaning it was an old image- and there’s a crowd of people outside a building with many surprised faces. Their clothes also suggested that this picture was taken in the ’50s. From these details, I inferred that there was a new invention inside the store the people were standing beside.
ronaldo (Vancouver Washington)
i think they are watching the tv
3°6 Romain Rolland (Ivry-sur-Seine, France)
The document is a black and white picture. It was published in the New York Times. The picture is from the late 50s maybe. I can see many people. Perhaps the people are there for the sales. They look shocked (especially the old woman). They are looking at something inside a store. In my opinion, it's a TV. I think it's the beginning of television.
3°3 Romain Rolland (Ivry-sur-Seine, France)
The document is a black and white picture. There are a lot of men but not a lot of women. They look shocked, surprised and worried. I think it is from the 20th century, from the fifties or sixties. They are looking at something through a window. Maybe they are looking at someone dead. Perhaps they are watching TV. I can see a newspaper cover about the first man who walked on the moon so they are watching the news on TV about that.
Isaiah S (SKHS)
There's a lot of people standing on the street looking through a window. Most of the people are men there's about 3 girls there. The people look wealthy for how old the picture is, you can tell because the picture is in black and white and the way people are dressed which also tells its from about 1960. And everyone there is staring at a TV that could be playing color or they could be watching the first space launch.
Varian F (SKHS)
i believe its the Apollo 11 mission
Xavier (Ohio)
I think they are looking at the new on the tv because I can see an image of a TV
WMS ESOL (NH)
We can see a lot of people on the street staring at something in front of them. The oldest man is holding a newspaper that seems like it might have some bad news because the people all seem worried and sad. Maybe they are reading some kind of notice. We think this picture might be from the late 1960s to the early 1970s because the picture is in black and white and there are no cell phones. Nowadays when there is bad news, everyone starts texting or talking
Joe (Pencilvania)
I thaught that they were 1929 businessmen waiting to withdrawl their money from the bank after the stock market crash. I thaught for most if not all it was too late
Joe (Pencilvania)
1969 nice
Joe (Pencilvania)
1969 nice
Jayden (gihs)
i think that they are watching a rocket lift off and they are listening to in on small radio stations
Isaiah S (SKHS)
@Jayden I think your right because how many people staring at the TV. And the way people are dressed.
nelson (NY)
We can see that the man in the middle have a magazine and its caver is about astronauts put the flag on the moon. The astronauts put he flag on the moon is on 1969. Thus, the time of this picture is about this time. What'more, because of the reaction of the glass, we can see the television which is a very old type. It can also show that its a historical picture. Furthermore, all the people were waiting to see the news and which was nation spread.
Danny (New York City)
What I can sure is that people were standing in front of the window to listen or watch the news about the first moon landing. But according the reflection on the window, I can see that the TV inside was off. Why all the people focused something inside window? Maybe there was a people standing inside and talking to them with the loudspeaker.
shihan (NewYork city)
It seems like these people are looking at some important thing in front a TV store on the street . It must be a huge news, such as the first time human arrived the moon or the economy has some problem.
Jackie (Queens)
The US News I can see three astronauts. A man was wear a sunglass. They were all looks serious. There was a television on the front desk and they were watching television.
lu (new york)
Their faces look very serious and sad. They may be watching TV in the store and they saw reports of the financial crisis. Or they are looking at stock information and stocks plummet.
Miranda (New York)
These people look serious and most of them wrinkly eyebrows. So there might happen some horrible things that the store can not open on time. One man was holding his phone near his ear. He may call the police. They still wait here and hope the store can open soon.
Kachamas (NY)
They were watching an important news in a television, could be the launching of a rocket to the moon or planet, through window of the store.
Jim (NY)
people in the picture look worried and stare at something on the television. And if you look at the reflection on the mirror. On the left side of the window, the reflection might be the sky. In my opinion, people were looking the Apollo 11 landing on the moon
Jackie (Queens)
I think these people are watching a very important news on the TV, every person show serious on their face.
Jackie (Arkansas)
These people look concerned about something, They might be watching something on the tv as there looks like a tv reflection in the window
mdog (virginia)
i think that the people are watching a very important football playoff game and everyone is on the edge of their seat
indy (va)
This is a picture of people staring through a store window which has a TV in it's display case, tuned to a channel broadcasting the moon landing.
Shreya M. (VA)
I think that the people are watching the first moon landing since one person is holding a newspaper saying that and a lot of people are crowded around, possibly a television.
Jaismeen Kaur (Virginia)
I think there is a sale going in the store but all the people are looking sad as if the store is closed and they want to buy.
luna (virginia)
They used to have stores with T.V. sets in the display windows, and because televisions were (and still are) expensive, people would watch the news from the display windows. On the newspaper it says something about the U.S. flag getting put on the moon, so I’m almost positive these people are either watching the moon landing or watching news about the moon landing.
kaylie (ilc)
I feel like the people in this picture are sad that the store closed down because it got ruined or the store is closing down. what do you think?
Trevor (SMS)
In this picture, it looks like to me that these people may be wathcing an important event. I think this because the way they are looking through on the glass. This may be the first moon landing because of the front of the newspaper cover it says "U.S.A flag on the moon".
cheyenne (sms)
In this picture it looks like, the people are watching the first moon landing. The guy in the front is holding a booklet that says "A U.S flag on the moon?," and in the window refletion there is a TV.
Ethan D (SKHS)
@cheyenne Exactly what I was thinking! This theory is supported by the colour of the photo and the wardrobe choice made by those watching, and the presence of a newspaper (less common in modern times).
Jose (sms)
It looks like the people are trying to get into a building maybe there could be a sale going on.Most of the faces look mad and one man is holding a u.s newspaper maybe this is a newspaper company, and the might have offended the people. They could be lining up for some sort of special event. They could be watching something on the other side of the glass maybe a tv show.
Jackson (sms😈😈😈)
It looks like these people are gathering around a TV store watching whatever is on TV. It might be the news about a bad storm or a murder. Or maybe it's a new device or machine coming out. Or it could be a tv show that many people liked. Now that I see the picture there most likely watching the news.
Maddie (SMS)
In this photo, maybe they are peering into a museum. The man to the right of the woman is holding a brochure that says ¨US NEWS WORLD REPORT¨ and underneath that, it says ¨A US FLAG ON THE MOON¨. So this photo could be from 1969. All of the people watching seem to be amazed!
addyson (sms)
Since this picture is in black and white. I think these people are watching something that is very important on television. It is the first moon landing because of the man on the right is holding a newspaper that says, " A U.S FLAG ON THE MOON." Many people in this picture look confused or surprised. I think everyone got of from work at this important time because they are all in suits and dresses.
Samuel (SMS VA USA)
This picture is probably before the 1980s because the picture is black and white and the styles of clothes they are wearing. The man who is standing beside the grandma is holding a newspaper saying, "A US flag on the moon," with three people on it. Those 3 people are probably Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Their is an old lady of whom I called a grandma, she is wearing clothes which looks like a rib cage. These people are all standing behind a glass with a phone or something with signs pointing at it.
Aubrey Z (SKHS)
@Samuel The detail that the three people on the newspaper are probably Neil armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins was a very good thing to add for this picture descriptions.
Evelyn Ortega (SMS)
It seems like there are people looking into a building. Some people look surprised and others look serious. A man in is holding the newspaper that reads, "U.S News." In the glass reflection, one can see the counter actually seems to be a very old TV. It is probably a TV store or a market.
trey. (sms)
In this photo, it is in black and white so, it is not a new photo. Also, there seems to be a floating hat. They all seem to be looking at that phone looking thing. All of the men in this picture are mostly wearing glasses or too much hair gel. They seem to be in a city because of the big building in the background.
Roane (SMS)
The group of people are watching something in front of a building. There is a reflection of the television in the left corner. Maybe the building is a convenience store or a market. It is probably early morning or late afternoon because all of the men are wearing suits and ties maybe for work, or church if the picture was taken on a Sunday. There is a man at the very front holding a magazine or newspaper. It says ''U.S. NEWS, A U.S FLAG ON THE MOON". Maybe all of the people are watching the first moon landing or the news talking about the moon landing. There is a little black box with arrows pointing to it, so it's probably a speaker, so everyone can hear what the television is saying.
Mia (SMS)
It appears that the people are staring through a storefront looking at maybe a display or a TV. I think they are watching on a TV either the take off of the suttle to the moon or the landing of the man on the moon because the man standing in the front, if you look closely, at the magazine it says "A U.S. flag on the moon". Also, they are wearing 1960's clothes and that is around the time when the first man landed on the moon.
ellie (sms)
I see that an old man is holding a brochure that says "U.S. News" "A U.S. Flag on the moon." So I feel like they could be watching the moon landing. It looks like there is glass between them and the camera so, I believe that they are watching the landing through a store window on a TV inside of the store. They all look really surprised with what is happening on the TV so, if it was the moon landing it would make sense.
Landon Powell (SMS)
From looking at this picture, I think that some business just released a phone. The reason I think that is because everyone is confuse and do not know what it is. I think they are in a city of some kind because there is a tall building behind them. Some of the people are writing stuff down so, I think something has information on it.
Mary M (Kansas)
My group discussed this and we think the crowd is either watching the first moon landing, the astronauts leaving the module and walking around on the moon, the liftoff from the moon or the recovery of the astronauts from their capsule. There are multiple clues suggesting 1969 as the date. The man in the center holds a magazine which reads a U.S. Flag on the Moon. We debated whether that magazine would have been published in advance with the hope that it would happen or if they waited until the Eagle had landed safely. We sort of think that they would have waited since it would have been such a tragedy (or at least a huge failure) if it had not been successful. Since my students have only known smartphones and TVs everywhere, they were intrigued by the transistor radio and the fact that people would stand in front of a store window to watch TV.
Eagles (Connersville, IN)
In this picture we see people gathered around a storefront. They seem to be watching something, possibly a television. We think the man on the right is listening to a small radio. Their faces appear mesmerized. We notice that they are not dressed in modern clothing. We are curious about the arrows and the button on the window.
Mrs Wagner's Class (UK)
We think this photo was taken sometime soon after the moon landing, because a man is holding a news magazine that says there is a US flag on the moon. There is a crowd watching a TV in a shop window. The moon landing was in July of 1969, so we think this might be a group of people watching a news report about Charles Manson; we think it must be something serious because of the expressions on the faces of the people watching.
Ava Sauer (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
In this image, many people are shown crowded around a storefront, with expressions of worry and intrigue on their faces. At the front of the mob, a man wearing a suit and holding a magazine that reads “A U.S. Flag On the Moon” is the only one speaking as others look solemnly and silently on. The magazine is what gives the year away; 1969, the year Niel Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. While it could mean a literal flag, it may also mean a metaphorical flag; since this was during the Cold War, simply making it to the moon would be “claiming” it as a win for America. Beyond the glass, they are watching a TV screen, which is the thing that captivates them so much. My guess would be that they are watching the moon landing, yet I do not understand why they would look so sullen while participating in such an activity. As my mind races through the possibilities, I get stuck on the fact that the landing might have been in progress, not accomplished as they are watching. This explains the tension; no one knows if the astronauts will actually make it or not, and the fate of the country lays on their success. Everyone is listening to the council of the older man, possibly because he is respected in the community or possibly because he is wiser and seems to be well-read on the issue. This imagine shows how strangers came together to experience such a surreal event together.
Mrs. G's class (L.A)
I noticed there is people standing in one spot I think they are watching giant tv or someone can be talking to someone else.
Anna (Port Orchard, WA)
I think these people are all watching the astronauts get back from the moon landing. They are all gathering outside of this store and they all look very serious meaning something important is happening. I think they are watching the astronauts get back because the man in the middle is already holding a paper that says that the U.S. flag is on the moon, meaning that they've already gone.
Diego Muñoz (Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain)
In this photo of the New York Times I see 19 people looking carefully and curiously at a boockshelf in which it is presented a product that all those people like. I think that the persons of this picture are a people that the seller has selected for the street because each one is dressed in a different way from others. For example I can see a old lady dressed in an elegant way, many men dressed in work clothes and formal and a men smocking.
Beatrix H. (Oregon)
I think they are watching the moon landing through a store window. I can see the moon landing news thing in his hand, so I know that has already happened but they might be rewatching it or they could be watching something else but I think it’s the moon landing because one guy has a camera and a lady possibly has another.
Chuy Rosales (DCHS)
In my opinion, what's going on in this picture is that a baseball match is taking place at that moment and people are watching it on a TV that is inside a store. In my opinion, the national team wasn't winning at that moment, because people's face look disappointed, angry and focused. A prove that makes me think so is that there's a man holding a radio ans it's normal to watch the match while you are listening to it on a radio.
Irene (Barcelona)
I’m Irene, I’m from Barcelona and I think that this picture it shows a scene from years ago where villagers are behind a shop window. I think that in the other part of the glass there is a TV that is telling current news. That’s why the faces of villagers are surprised. The possible news that explains is the trip to the moor of football game or a bad notice maybe.
Lockport School class 8-2 (Lockport, MB, Canada)
They are watching the moon landing. I notice people are wearing clothes from that time period. Their expressions appear to be concerned or in disbelief. They also seem to be transfixed by whatever they are watching on the TV. We know it's a TV because we recognize the wooden shape large TVs would have had at this time. Also, not every household had TVs so they are gathered around a store-front to watch it. The biggest sign that this is the moon landing is the pamphlet the man is holding. I talks about putting a US flag on the moon and it appears that there are three astronauts on the cover also. We also notice that there are primarily men in this image. We wonder if the older woman in the front is with the man holding the pamphlet. Maybe they got there first and the rest joined. Maybe she's an important person because all the men seem to be giving her a lot of space. The other women in the image are struggling to see and they look between people from the back of the group.
4M (New York)
4M thinks the people in this photo are watching the first moon landing because a man in the foreground is holding a magazine or news article entitled “A U.S. Flag on the Moon.” We think they must be watching something exciting, disastrous, interesting, or compelling because of each individual facial expression. This reminds one of us of the faces of people watching the Challenger explosion We also think they must be watching an event on television because we see the reflection of a television in the window. We believe this photo was taken in a city because of the building number in the background. We believe this photo was taken from a long time ago for many reasons and observations: -The photo is in black and white -One man is smoking and no one seems to be bothered by it. We know that people a long time ago weren’t bothered by cigarette smoke because they weren’t aware of the harmful health effects -People watched wooden box TVs on display in storefronts because many didn’t have a TV in their households a long time ago We wonder… Why is the TV dark? Is it off? What are the arrows on the window pointing to? What is the man in the striped photo holding up to his ear?
Aina (Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain)
In my opinion, what's going on in this picture is that a baseball match is taking place at that moment and people are watching it on a TV that is inside a store. In my opinion, the national team wasn't winning at that moment, because people's face look disappointed, angry and focused. A prove that makes me think so is that there's a man holding a radio ans it's normal to watch the match while you are listening to it on a radio.
Yoel (Cicero IL)
The people are watching something cool. This picture was taken 1960 because the photo is black and white.Everyone is wearing glasses. They could watching the moon landing.
Anna (Port Orchard, WA)
@Yoel I agree that they are watching something cool but I don't think they're necessarily watching the moon landing, I think they're watching the landing back on Earth from the trip to the moon.
Hanif (Cicero IL)
The People Are Watching something cool
Parker (Brookline MA)
We think that they are watching a moon landing. The time period that the photo was taken is likely 1960's because the moon landing happened at that time and the people's clothing and the TV and radio seen in the photo are from that time period. They may be concerned that something might go wrong.
Delta (Washington)
I think people are waiting to see something horrific happen. It is clear that they are standing in front of TVs, worried expressions on their faces.
Ignacio (Cicero)
People are waiting for an iPhone. I think this picture was taken in 2016, on an iphone camera, with a black and white filter.
Michael (Cicero)
i area and of the 1960
kile (sifton)
something is there and they are confused. I see someone holding a news paper and whats on the news is what they see. its old fashioned i also see a spy cam i believe. or Or a voice recorder where the arrows are pointing
Torresvíctor 2k (Cornellá de Llobregat)
I think that in this picture there are a lot of people because in the other side of the glass there is a TV with a very important information. I investigate the date and I think it was in 1960 and the picture and the newspaper of the front man matches with a special moment for the human beings .All the viewers are nervous because the human walks on the moon for the first time in history
Kealianna e (landmark sf)
I think that the people in the photo look like there either protesting or watching something tragic on the news and it looks like the photo was taken in the 80s or the 90s and they look like there worried or upset about something....
jovanny acevedo (utah)
I think it looks like that because something shocking happened or something exciting. The fascinating thing about this picture is the sticker in the window. What does it say?
Carla Villegas (Barcelona)
I’m from Barcelona and looking at this picture I’ve been able to reach this conclusion: Is a photo in black and white and I think that people that appear in it are watching a television behind the glass. They are people from years ago because of the clothes that they are wearing. I think they are watching some news that have impacted them by the face they have in the photo. I think it can be a notice about the death of someone important.
Parker (Brookline MA)
We think this image takes place in 1969 because of the clothing, hairstyles and the pamphlet announcing US Flag on the moon. The people are witnessing a historical event, either a rocket launch or return to earth. Facial expressions tell us that they are concerned and attentive. We believe it could be the Apollo 11 falling back to earth.
francisco (Spanish fork, Utah)
@Parker Saying that its the 1969 because of their clothing is smart. Also, connecting it to the moon landing is good thinking. I didn't think about that.
Derek m (Landmark UT)
@Parker that is a good observation the style definitely is a 1960's or 70's era. And how the people are reacting to the television makes it seem like something breath taking and one of a kind is happening. They look dumb founded honestly
Laia (Cornellà (Barcelona))
In the photo you can see a group of people of different ages. Who are watching TV in a shop window and on TV there is the possibility of seeing a crime. The crime has been that a lady is selling fake driving cards to underage people, and there has already been more than one accident, one of those people has run over a politician. This woman is in search and capture, and they also looking for people with the fake card driving to remove it and have no more accidents.
Amanda (landmark high school)
@Laia This is a good observation i like what you have came up with i would love to hear more
xx (bcn)
I think that these people have sttopped in the street to watch some bad news on a local TV. This image makes me think this because all the people who appear in the photo have bad facial expressions. Some are as disappointed, others angry, others surprised, others puzzled... There is a lot of variety of bad news, but I think a possible option would be that there was a terrorist attack.
Carla (Barcelona)
In this picture you can see a group of people looking at something through the glass. They all seem very attentive and confused. In the newspaper that holds the man says: “U.S. Flag On The Moon”, I think this picture is from 1969’s and they are looking at Apollo 11 a manned space mission in the United States whose goal was to get a human being to walk on the surface of the Moon.
Reagin (Landmark High)
@Carla I agree complete with you. They almost look like they are in ah as they are watching don't they?
francisco (Spanish fork, Utah)
@Carla Looking at the news paper for more context is a great use of the image. I just assumed because of the clothing they're wearing.
Beatrix H. (Oregon)
Yeah I really get that
Lockport School class 8-3 (Lockport, MB, Canada)
Our class think they are watching a moon landing. We also think these people are watching an important event on TV. We think they are watching a TV because TVs were often in big wooden boxes and they were displayed in window displays. We think that this takes place in the 1960's because it's black and white, because of what people are wearing, because there are not very many women or any Black people. We wonder what is on the window with the arrows pointing to it and if that guy is holding a radio or a phone. Lastly, we wonder where it takes place in the U.S. We know it takes place in the States because the newspaper tells us it's taking place there.
Mrs. Deierlein's Class (New York)
People who work together are looking through a window at an old fashioned TV. They are watching a recording of Neil Armstrong. They are listening to a radio which is also what is on the window near the arrows. We know it is Neil Armstrong because of the U.S. News. We think there might be a reflection on the window.
Mrs. Lounsbury's AM class (CT)
We noticed that they are watching TV at a storefront. They might be watching Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. The expressions on their faces seem like they are upset or concerned. We also noticed that they are all wearing business clothes. Maybe they are on their way home from work, and they stopped to watch the TV.
Aubrey M (SKHS)
I believe that this photograph takes place in the year 1969 as the newspaper states "A U.S. Flag on the Moon" and that is the year in which Neil Armstrong landed on the moon in Apollo 11. It also appears as if they are all watching TV or something new as they seem to be in front of a store window. Additionally, they all look to be focused on one singular thing within the store so it may be something serious happening on the news at this point in time. This photograph also takes place in America which I can tell just by the look of the people in the photo and newspaper the man is holding. I would like to know what the item is on the window with signs pointing around it.
Hannah T (SKHS)
It looks like there is something in a store and everybody is admiring it. There is glass like the photo was taken inside. The people are very focused on something inside the store. These people are dressed up and a man is holding a newspaper that says " A U.S. flag on the moon"
Mrs. Deierlein's Class (New York)
We think that they are suspicious of the moon landing because of the dude's article. There were a bunch of people looking at a tv.
Amanda (landmark high school)
@Mrs. Deierlein's Class i agree
Reagin (Landmark High)
@Mrs. Deierlein's Class If you look a little closer you can see how they are waiting in anticipation.
Mrs. K's class (Teaneck, NJ)
We believe that everyone is gathered around a TV in a storefront watching something related to the landing on the moon. The magazine shows the title about the US Flag on the moon. We know they are watching TV because we can see the TV reflection on the window. We are wondering if there was a problem that was being announced as they viewers all look serious. We believe it took place in 1969 due to the headline on the magazine.
Hannah T (SKHS)
@Mrs. K's class I agree with everything that you said and I saw the U.S. newspaper about the flag too.
NICO IXTLAHUAC (Spanish fork UT)
@Mrs. K's class I also agree with this you make a lot of key point on why you think it would be the moon landing you did describe and point out thing that i didn't see or even notice and i didn't even think that it was the moon landing at all.
Edgar (Cornella)
In the picture you can see a group of people of different age, who are watching TV in an showcase and on TV there is the possibility of seeing a news explaining attacks that are happening near their homes. 225 people died in these attacks and 20 were injured, 15 of them seriously. Currently, they are looking for the culprits of these attacks, probably these guilty people are jihadist since there have been many bomb men.
Josep Moreno a.k.a Xixo (Cornellà de Llobregat)
In this picture, we can see a bunch of people looking at a store window. It seems that they're looking at a TV. As we can see, they're all wearing suits and most of them are men, so we can suppose it was long time ago. At they're facial expressions, they look interested in what's going on there. If we look at the man of the black suit, It has a newspaper with a notice that looks like the typical pictures of a rocket launch, so, maybe they're looking at a rocket launch.
Isabella (SMS)
The people in the picture are staring at something interesting on the other side of the glass. I am saying this because they all have straight faces, and sad ones to, there are also young and old people there. some people are on the phone and looking so think that whatever is on the other side has to be something important.
Julia (SMS)
All the people are looking at something in the store. I think they all want the same thing because their eyes are all focused in the middle of the store. It looks like that one guy with the telephone in his hand is making a phone call to someone. Maybe they all are waiting for the store to open because it was just built and, is brand new.
violetta (SMS)
I predict, by the peoples faces they are very confused.Their location is probably in a town. And all of these people are looking inside a store.I think that at the store the worker is doing something very cool and the people from the outside are looking and are very confused, because that shop did not do something very cool in a long time. And that is why the people are looking very confused.
Bella (SMS)
I predict that there was crime .There are a lot of ladies and gentlemen that want to look at it. There is something special behind the glass and it's only going to be there for couple days. I believe the man, with the pen and paper is a detective, he is trying to find out what happened, and the lady that is holding the hat is speechless. Lastly, I thank all of these people are very confused.
Mrs.Wallace's English class (Sparks Glencoe, MD)
Good morning, From this picture we infer that a group of people are outside of a building or establishment that has televisions inside and a speaker on the other side of the glass. Based on the clothes and black and white photo, we are guessing that this event took place in the 1960s. The people in this photograph could be watching something related to the Space Race. We see anticipation, concern and shock on their faces (especially the woman). We also see people with their own radios held to their ear. This is during a warmer month of the year, given that no one is wearing a jacket and many have their sleeves rolled up. We see the word "LOWER" on the far right arrow. All the arrows are written to be read from the street. So, our final guess is that this is happening midday during a work day and the news of the Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin as the first man in space to orbit.
NICO IXTLAHUAC (Spanish fork UT)
@Mrs.Wallace's English class i also agree with this, this does look like a big event and around the at time the space race was a big thing to listen or even watch to lots of people were interested because of how little we knew about space at that time.
Osvaldo (sms)
They are mostly men, and only two woman in this picture. It appears that they are confused at what they are looking at. Four arrows are pointing at something that is stuck to the window. It could be something to do with the object there looking at. One old woman is calling somebody, like her husband. She also aperas to be consern. One of the old man is holding a newspaper that says U.S.NEWS . The news paper has something to do with man on the moon. People in the croud also look sad, they could be whatching the news that maybye something bad has happen.
Keaton (Burns)
In this picture these, people look to be examining something low to the ground. There is just one woman, and she is very shocked. All the men have their hair gelled. They are dressing differently from the way we do now. They're all very shocked at what they see, maybe a small animal.
Dominiq (sms)
The people seem to be looking at a store and on the other side of the glass seem to catch there interest. they look like they are watching something of the other glass. there are 15 people there and looks like there watching something from NASA. the guy that holding a news paper is some with a man on a moon.
Paradice (SMS)
Maybe they are looking at some furniture or some TVs through the glass. The lady with the hat looks surprised. The man in the back that is behind the woman looks sad. The man that is bald is trying to figure out what happened. They are probably looking at a crime and are about to call the cops.
Caren M (LCMS)
The people are staring at something interesting or something that they want that is on the other side of the glass. I know this because the man in the very front of the crowd that has the pen near his mouth has looks so focused on the thing that is on the other side of the glass. This picture takes place in the past. I know this because the picture is in black and white. In addition, the clothes look very formal and back then most people dressed in very nice and formal clothes. There reading or watching the news. I know this because the old tv you can see that there is a reflection, so there is something playing. In addition, the man with the glasses that in between the woman and the man has an article or newspaper that says “U.S NEWS A WORLD REPORT”. Based on the evidence this picture is taking place in the past and the crowd of people are focus on watching the news.
Jahnessa H (SKHS)
This looks like a press meeting gone sad. I say this because i see old people and young people together in formal clothing with straight faces or sad faces. They also look concerned the older lady in the front looks concerned.
audrey wilkerson (LHS)
@Jahnessa H I agree they do look really concerned. I think they are watching something tragic that has happened in the world. I don't think it was a business meeting.
Morgan M. (SKHS)
In this picture I can tell that there is a group of about 15 people that are peering into a shop or a room from the street window an it looks like they are almost or surprised of what are seeing occur inside. I also think that it is in the mid 1960's because of their outfits and hairstyle. I found that the man standing close to the window is holding an article that says, " A U.S. flag on the moon", with a picture of astronauts so I think that they are watching or listening to an interview of some kind about NASA's man on the moon mission.
James F (SKHS)
I feel as if this is one of those stores that you see in older movies, where they have all the radios or the television sets in the windows playing music or something. Another thought that I guess could be a possibility is an election poll because of the little box in the corner, but I do not believe that is it. What makes me think of the window televisions is that normally they would stand in front of the window during an important news announcement that they would display. This was in the early 19 hundreds, but they didn't become more affordable until later, which makes me think this is later in the twentieth century. The clothing and the glasses most of the men are wearing are also good indicators of the time period.
Karissa G. (SKHS)
I think they could be watching a news broadcast through the window of a business. I think this because they all look kind of interested or anticipating something. I think this because the magazine one of the guys is holding says something about a us flag on the moon. It also looks like it could be around the time of the Apollo 11 launch based on the clothes the people are wearing.
Savanna M (SKHS)
I think in this picture, they are watching the news or a television broadcast and they are confused or surprised about it. I say this because they all are wearing a confused or shocked look. I also think this picture was taken in the late 60s or early 70s because their clothing appears to be from that era and a man in the front is holding a newspaper about a "U.S. Flag on the Moon."
Leiland.M (SKHS)
I see a group of people standing in front of what I'd guess was a tv shop based on the clothes there wearing and also the reflection of a old box tv on the lower left corner of the picture.I think there watching the Apollo 11 take off because the man in fronts holding a news paper that says "A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON" and also because the photo looks like it was taken during that time because of the peoples dated clothes and also the way the reflection of the tv looks i'm guessing this was 1969 or 1970's when this was taken.
Amaya V (SKHS)
I believe this takes place in the 50s or 60s. I believe they could be watching some kind of important event or some big sale in a store. I say this because there is a large crowd intently they are staring inside of the window. The reason i say this takes place in the 50s is because of their clothing. I noticed a pamphlet or booklet that says "U.S NEWS". that leads me to believe this takes place in the U.S.
Ariel L (skhs)
This is a photo of people watching something through a window, in the U.S. in the 60's. I think this because the paper the man is holding says U.S. NEWS and their clothing plus the fact that its in black and white suggests it was taken a while ago.
Max (SKHS)
They are probably in the 50's or something close to that since it is in black and white and not color. What they are wearing is a give away that it was pretty far in the past since most people don't go walking around in suits and with big hats. Also the hair style because today more people have a greater range of hairstyles not just what's likely 3, it's hard to tell when someone is balding. Also someone is holding A newspaper which you don't see too often even in the past 10 years. There is also someone holding something to their ear I can't tell exactly what it is but it is thick and has a strap and i'm assuming that it's A phone because he's holding it up to his ear. And I think someone might be holding A book on the side but I can't tell.
Rhiannon H. (SKHS)
I think they’re watching the moon landing on a storefront television. They’re all gathered in front of a store front and since they all look very focused, it might be a TV they’re looking at. The man in front’s newspaper reads: U.S. News & World Report, A U.S. Flag On The Moon. Their attire looks to be from the 1960s or so. They all have varying expressions of surprise, amazement, or confusion.
Sam M (SKHS)
I think that the people are looking at something like a TV that is playing something important. I think this because usually people do not crowd around a window for no reason and the mane in the black suit is holding a paper that says, "a U.S flag on the moon." So they could be watching the moon landing.
L. B. (SKHS)
What is going on in this picture? A group of people are staring in a window. The picture maybe was taken in the time of black and white photography. Mostly men in suits are staring kind of bored at something behind the window. The picture was taken from the inside of the window. They seem like they finally want to have an item or maybe there are new news in the world and they do not really care about. They look also hopeless maybe it is during a war or an attack.
Mystery M (SKHS)
In this photo i see people in the 60s or 70s waiting for something outside of a store. Based off of the book the man in front is holding and the tv in the store, id say they are watching the moon landing.
Alexis (SKHS)
watching tv through a shop about the man in the moon, the man in the front holding a news paper that says breaking news. and there are many people are standing around.
Gavin C (SKHS)
I think that the people in this picture are looking at a tv through glass and it was taken in 1969 because one of the people are holding a news paper that has a date in 1969 and picture is in black and white
Trevor S (SKHS, WA)
it is a group of people gathered outside of a tv store watching an important historical event and based on the magazine picture which appears to be 3 men standing on the moon with a caption above saying "A.B.C. flag on the moon" this is probably 1969 when w first stepped foot on the moon
Ava S (South Kitsap High School)
I think that the men and woman are looking at a important news broadcast because most of the men are in business suits and probably wouldn't stop to look through a window unless it was important. This pretty old maybe 60's because of the Apollo mission on the newspaper printed.
Dawson M (SKHS)
I see a black and white photograph with 10 to 12 people looking into some window. One man has a report from USA and it mentions the moon landing. Now since its black and white it must be in the 70's and the magazine says USA so it must be in the untied states and the magazine also shows a report of the moon landing, like I said before. So my conclusion is these 10-12 from the 70's from USA are watching the First USA Moon Landing in some sort of broadcasting TV store window.
Trenton M. (SKHS)
the people are in the united states and they are watching a television broadcast, possibly the Apollo 11 launch in the 1970's. the person in the front is holding a book that says "a american flag on the moon". everyone is watching intently
Emma Davis (skhs)
I think they are watching something on a television because I can see the televisions reflection in the bottom right corner.
Ryan H (SKHS)
i think these people are watching something on tv. it looks like it is something space related like the Apollo 11 landing because of the magazine the man in the middle is holding. the magazine has 3 astronauts on it and it says "a U.S. flag on the Moon".
LukeH (SKHS)
People seem to be onlooking some sort of news through the a window, there is a man with a news paper and another with what looks like a hand held radio.
Kate M. (skhs)
This photo looks like its an older photo because of the way they are dressed and because its in black and white. It seems that they are watching a television broadcast through the window, its probably something important like a political matter.
Kristoff Cain (Port orchard, Wa)
they are watching the moon landing.
jacob (gish)
I think that they are watching some sort of television broadcast through the window. It may be some important event like the Apollo 11 launch. I think this because the person in the front is holding a magazine that says «A U.S. flag on the moon» with three astronauts in the foreground. It also seems around the same time that it launched based on the clothing they're wearing.
Emma Davis (skhs)
@jacob I agree!
LukeH (SKHS)
@jacob, i completely agree with your thoughts.
Ava S (South Kitsap High School)
@jacob I think you are correct in saying that I also saw the newspaper.
Liberty T (SKHS)
In this picture, there are multiple people of all ages looking at something through a glass window. The photo is shot from behind the glass where the people are looking. This picture looks like it was taken a long time ago because one, the clothes they are wearing look very dated and the photo is in black and white, and two, one man in the front is holding a newspaper that says, "A U.S. Flag on the Moon". Because of that newspaper, I believe this photo was taken in 1969 when we first went to the moon. Maybe this picture was taken as we went to he moon and these people were viewing it through the widow of one of those TV shops.
Morgan M. (SKHS)
@Liberty T I agree with your statement and also think that they aare watching something along the lines about the NASA's man on the monn mission.
chase.e (GIGISH)
I think that they are looking at a act or they are watching something like a t.v and they are watching a take off because they do not all have t.vs so they came to a local place.
Levi Argueta (N/A)
To me I think that the photo is probably a bunch of working people who were heading to work or somewhere and happend to see the TV. Then the more people who passed the more people that stopped by the window. I feel that the thing on the television that they are looking at is some sort of news that's talking about something controversial and that's why some people look interested and some look mad or irritated.
Karissa G. (SKHS)
@Levi Argueta I agree that they could be looking at something controversial. i agree because some look angry or surprised.
AM (gigish)
People looking into a window maybe looking at a tv. Some people look concerned or worried. This might had happened during a bad period of time. It looks like if this was taken in the 30s or 40s.
Hayden S. (SKHS)
It appears they are waiting or looking at something very important through a window. On the windows reflection I can see what seems to be an older Television set by the twists and knobs. Based on what the man in front is holding a newspaper which reads "U.S. NEWS A WORLD REPORT A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON" Which leads me to believe that their watching the moon landing.
Dawson M (SKHS)
@Hayden S. Thanks what I thought too. The report helped a lot in this photograph.
Cole (Grand Island)
In this picture it is clearly older. It has many people from late 1900's. It has many people looking in what seems to be a class case. I would make the best guess that this is during war time like the vietnam war. Maybe something bad just happened in the war.
Amaya V (SKHS)
@Cole I can see that. The clothing reminds me of the 50s or 60s
Mye (Landmark HS Spanish Fork, Utah)
@Amaya V I can see your point however, I believe that the clothes they are wearing are from around the 70's, because their hairstyles also mimic the 70's hair.
Tucker T (SKHS)
I think they're looking at a T.V. through the glass and the box mounted on the glass is a microphone on the inside and the outside has a speaker for anyone watching T.V. the news paper the man in the center says "A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON" from U.S. NEWS world report my teacher said it could be the jfk assassination comment who you think is right.
Ryan H (SKHS)
@Tucker T i think it is space related from the magazine the man is holding.
Mye (Landmark HS Spanish Fork, Utah)
@Ryan H I think that it could be the moon landing , because the JFK assassination took place 6 years before the first moon landing.
nbbm (jkjnm)
people are looking at something on summer on new york they are looking at something interesting
Reece (M.)
i think all the men and women are dressed up to see a new release of something and they are probably in a big city somewhere in the middle because if you look at the back you can see what appears to be a government building or the entrance of one.
Ariel L (skhs)
@Reece I agree that it looks like they're in a city, their clothing suggests that most of them work in a large office building.
Connor (GISH)
I think the people in the picture are watching the astronauts return back from the moon. That would explain their scared faces and the newspaper that reads "a flag on the moon." The faces are scared because they can see ship returning into the atmosphere and they are scared the people will not survive.
Savanna M (SKHS)
@Connor I'm curious as to why newspapers and articles would be out about the moon landing if they were currently watching them come back. I also don't think a landing like that would be open to the public.
Sam M (SKHS)
@Connor That makes a lot of sense that they would be watching the astronauts land because of what the paper says. watching something that has never been done would be scary to watch which would explain everyone's reaction.
irving (A-A High School)
There is a group of people who are staring at the window and there is a guy who is holding a radio and an old man is holding some news paper. I think they are staring at some tvs.
nolan (na)
i think that they are looking at a tv about something
L. B. (SKHS)
@nolan I agress, perhaps they are listening to bad news about the world. Could be possible be a war at this time because of the black and white photography.
joe (up state new york)
i think that maybe they are watching some kind of important brodcast because the people dont look very happt and the guy with the cigeret looks stressed out.
Luis (Gish)
I think that they are watching televesion. Its probably about the first landing on the moon. I think this because a man is holding a magazine with astraunauts on it.
Kelton R. (SKHS)
I think that they are watching some sort of television broadcast through the window. It may be some important event like the Apollo 11 launch. I think this because the person in the front is holding a magazine that says "A U.S. flag on the moon" with three astronauts in the foreground. It also seems around the same time that it launched based on the clothing they're wearing.
Lillyanna G (SKHS)
In general there are a lot of people staring at something that seems to have all of their attention. The people's faces don't seem to be very happy, they seem upset or angry for some reason. A lady is also seen on the phone as well. The image is black and white and also the way the people are dressed gives me the idea that this is an old picture. I have a feeling that they are watching something that has to do with the U.S moon lading due to the fact that there is a man holding up a paper that says, " U.S News, A U.S Flag on the Moon."
Blake J (SKHS)
The image is of people looking at something through the glass. I think that they are looking at a television with a controversial broadcast playing . Some of the people look angry and others are calm. This also looks to be back in the 60's because of their traditional clothing and hair.
Brianna A (SKHS)
in this photo it looks as if the people are looking at a TV broadcast of some sort. i would think this because there is a lot of people out side the window and in the window there is a small reflection of a TV inside. it also looks like this could be in the early 1960's or 1970's
Sebastian A (SKHS)
They are looking at a television, I know because if you look closely at the window there is a television there. This is older times. They are either looking at the television for the first time or wanting to buy it. In my opinion they are looking at it for the first time.
Kennedy I (SKHS)
It looks like they are all grouped together watching the news or some important video. You can see a reflection of a tv in the window. A lot of people look like they are confused about what it is going on and a few of them seem like they might be mad about something that is happening.
OakleyP (SKHS)
I think that the group of people is watching the live feed of Apollo 11. I think this as if you look carefully, you can see a television, some people, especially older people looking in awe and or suspicion, and one that looks like he has a handheld radio or other device. I also think this since there is a man holding a newspaper or pamphlet saying "A U.S. flag on the moon" meaning that it is in 1969 ish and that the mission just happened or is currently happening. On second thought, It may be the people watching the return to earth because newspapers had time to spread the news of the flag
Ripley E. (SKHS)
There is a group of white men in suits and ties and one older women and another younger one in the back , looking at something on the other side of the glass. I think they're looking at a TV. It's probably around 1960-1970. One of the men is also smoking. The man up front is holding a newspaper that states "A US Flag on the Moon" with the 3 astronauts on it. All of the people looked focused or concerned as they watching the TV. On the glass there is some sort of lever with several arrows pointing to it. I believe the group is watching a broadcast of some sort, probably of another space launch.
Eden Ogle (SKHS)
This photo is a group of street wanderers gazing upon a television behind the glass showing the space mission where we went to space. The time setting appears to be the 60's from the way these people are dressed. Their clothes could also be an indicator of a big city, for example all the men are in suits, or in the back appears to be an important building. The man in the mid-right with the dark suit is holding a newspaper showing on the front astronauts about to go on the space mission. They dont seem too excited though, oddly.
Eric S. (skhs)
there is a large group of people looks to be watching something or airing something inside the shop. the appear to be in the 60s they could be watching the moon landing because everyone is in ah or just super interested in what going on. in the shop now looking deeper in the picture he has a news paper with the moon landing on the moon. this could before the moon landing and the he got it before they actually landed on the moon and they are watching them land.
Yuval (California)
By the clothes, this picture was taken in the 1960s during the summer. By the shadows on their faces, it's about noon. By the building in the background, in a city in the northeast, probably NY (if it was the south they would be more sweaty). By the brochure in the man's hand, this was shortly after the moon landing. By the TV inside the store, they're watching something on tv. By the man holding a radio, they are listening to news of what's happening - probably and important news story. By the diversity of people, it's a news story with wide appeal (not sports). My guess - their watching the Apollo 11's astronauts return to earth on July 24th, 1969 at about 1pm.
Aubrey M (SKHS)
@Yuval I agree with your interpretation of this photograph. I also found the newspaper in this photograph to be very helpful in determining the time period and possibly what these people are watching/ looking at.
Isaiah F. (SKHS)
There is many people looking through glass at something. They might be watching the moon landing or something like that because the many in the front is holding a newspaper titled "A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON" and in the reflection of the glass you can also see what seems to be a TV, the photo is also in black and white so that is more evidence that they might be watching the moon landing.
Kina P. (SKHS)
The people look like they are crowded around a TV shop with news being displayed. The people's expression look confused and/or disappointing. My guess that this is during one of the World Wars and the people are witnessing the devastation of one of the many battles fought. From the look of the similar clothing maybe they are all from one cooperation and came out to witness what is happening. One man is holding a pamphlet titled U.S NEWS. He could have been reading about events in the U.S
Ronan W (Skhs)
It seems like a group of all adults and seniors are looking at something through a glass window the photo is taken of the people without the object they are looking at in it so it is unknown to what they may be gathered around for this looks to be an older photo because is is in black and white and the people are dressed like they would be in the 40's.
Ben A. (SKHS)
I think hat they are all watching something. I believe that it might be the moon launching of Apollo 11 because of the elderly man in front is holding a news letter about three astronauts with a caption of "A U.S FLAG ON THE MOON". some people look very upset/mad while others look like they're watching in aw. I'm guessing this took place around the late 1900's like 1969-1971 judging on the color of the photo and how everyone in the photo is dressed.
Natalie J (SKHS)
The image is of a large crowd watching something in the U.S. They all appear to be watching intently, as if it's important. The newspaper one of the men is holding has a picture of astronauts on the front, so it's likely they are watching something related to the moon landing. The newspaper also has the heading "U.S News". The object on the glass with all the signs pointing to it, might be a speaker of some sort projecting the noise of the news broadcast.
Madison Z (SKHS)
this group of people must see something interesting, it could be an abject or a sign that possibly could be making these people annoyed, if you look closely they seem mad at what they are seeing, it very well could be U.S news, if you look at the man with the news paper in his hand they could be looking at that
Connor H. (SKHS)
This photo looks like it was taken in around the 50's-60's and I believe they are all admiring a space landing or takeoff on a t.v. I say this because one of the men are holding a newspaper that says "U.S. News A U.S. flag on the moon"
Haliegh M. (SKHS)
it looks as though a crowd of people are watching a news broadcast about putting the american flag on the moon, because the man in front is holding a artical of some kind that says " U.S. NEWS & world...... A U.S. Flag On The Moon ".
owen callaghan (skhs)
this picture is old and has something to do with people looking through the windoframe and are sad
Reagan M (SKHS)
this shows obvious proof they are all gathered watching the news about something very relevant, the moon.
carmenp (skhs yo)
It looks like people standing outside some kind of store or a bank. Cuz there is a window looking thinga majiga in front of them. I dont know why they are just standing there. One dude has a news paper in his hand and they all look bored or like they at a funeral or something.
Alexis A (LCMS)
This picture was taken in an older time. I know this because the picture is in black and white. Also, the clothes the people in front of the window wearing are in an older fashion. The people are waiting. I know this because they are all gathered in front of this big window looking at whatever it is that’s inside. The setting of this picture is in a city. I know this because in the background behind the people is a big building, and seems to be a larger building like what you’d find in a city. Based on the evidence this picture takes place at an older time in a city, and the people are waiting outside a window looking at whatever’s inside. This picture was taken in an older time. darius (Vancouver Washington)
well i think their studying on a phone or some device.
Sebastian A (SKHS)
@darius if you look closely there is a older television
Cassidy (Sifton Elementary)
I think they are watching something where all those tv´s are stacked up or theres a huge sale going on and there waiting at the door step to get inside.
Roy t (no where)
It looks like the year 1969, a beautiful the bees are buzzing, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, color didn't exist but that's okay men were old wearing suits, and women wore sun dresses and big hats all year round, the group of people are all close and know each other and they've gathered around the tele to watch the moon landing.
isaiah (vancover)
i think their looking at something they wanna buy or they are looking at the small tvs or their looking at something sad.
owen callaghan (skhs)
@isaiah it ovesly wasent a toy becase if it was the people would be happy not sad
maison (washington)
i think it is a slave convention a slave bidding
Hayden S. (SKHS)
@maison I disagree with that because this photo seems it was taken 120 years after slavery was outlawed.
Chris M (SKHS)
This image is the crowd of people admiring an object. Some people look mad, others focused on it more than others. This may be a Television broadcasting something important like the Apollo 11 launch. I can tell because the man in the front is holding a newspaper that says "A U.S. flag on the moon" with three astronauts in the front. Owen is probably the name of the person and hes pretty bad.
David A. Lyon (SKHS)
i believe they are watching news about the moon landing or watching it live and to prove this, if you look in the bottom right corner and in the reflection of the window you can see a tv, and the group of people are standing around watching it. and the man in the front is holding a newspaper with the words " A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON"
carmenp (skhs yo)
@David A. Lyon That could be possible but why would they all look depressed or like someone died?
Reagan M (SKHS)
@David A. Lyon i agree, this shows obvious proof they are all gathered watching the news about something very relevant, the moon.
Blake J (SKHS)
@David A. Lyon I like your intuition of the moon landing. It takes a lot of creativity to figure something like that out.
Shelby B (SKHS)
In the photo there are people looking into a building. I believe these people are watching the news that's being broadcast to them. I say this because there is an older man who is wearing glasses and a suit, in his hand there is a news paper. If you look closely at the window you can see the reflection of a tv. The time that this photo was most likely the 1960s, you can tell this in the way that the people are dressed, the ladies are wearing dresses and one of them has a big hat.
Ripley E. (SKHS)
@Shelby B Get job noticing the reflection! What do you believe they are watching on the news?
anthony s (skhs)
it looks like they are watching the takeoff or landing of the first spaceship. i know this because one of the people is holding a news article bout it. at the time not everyone had a tv so i imagine they were watching it on a stores tv.
Kimberlin Barahona (Utah)
@anthony s I agree with this because this seems like it would be around the time period the first takeoff was. You can tell by the clothes they wear, the old tv and the newspaper he's holding.
Lauren T (SKHS)
The setting looks like the 1960s because of the clothing and the borchure the man is holding says "A U.S. Flag on the Moon" so what must be happening is the moon landing. Also in foreground there are TVs in those boxes. The moon landing was around the late 1960s so that supports the context. These people look nervous like they're depending on whats happening is gonna change their lives, Because they practiclly are for their country.
Victoria C. (SKHS)
This takes place in a city in America and the man in the dark center of the photo is the tour guide and the people are crowding around him to see what hes explaining. The guide has a paper with the moon landing information on it so he is explaining what happened to these people, but the man left back was not happy that they went to the moon before him so he put on his sunglasses and is trying not to look upset.
Calum C. (SKHS)
I think this is a New York TV shop playing the moon landing, which was a live broadcast. Since this large group of people are all crowding a shop, which based on the electronic looking object on the window could be an electronic shop, and they're all looking at one area which is where the TV probably is. Also, the man's holding a newspaper about a US flag on the moon.
Tierra B. (SKHS)
In this picture there are many men and one women looking through glass at an unknown object. It's hard to tell the general mood in this picture because some look concerned, mad, sad, observant and confused. There's a woman with her mouth wide open and she looks very shocked. A man has a black box shaped object up by his ear. This picture was probably taken around the 1960's due to fashion details.
Shelby B (SKHS)
@Tierra B. I agree it is kind of difficult to tell the over all mood of the photo.
Elijah M (SKHS)
I think this photo was taken in the 1970's when Apollo and his crew went to space for the first time and put his flag on the moon. I think that's whats going on because they used to have TV's out for people in public to watch through the glass and that's what it looks like everyone is doing. also the photo is in black and white so that makes me think its older and if you look closely you can see a news paper at the bottom right area of the screen and you can read that it says a U.S flag on the moon so I think they are all watching the rocket fly into space so that they can put the flag onto the moon.
Estrella. R (SKHS)
@Elijah M I thought the same exact thing and as well as the people holding the hand held radios so they could hear the TV
Joshua O (SKHS)
@Elijah M I Agree because of the black and white photo and the old clothing and the little paper in the man hand that say U.S. flag on the moon
Kimberlin Barahona (Utah)
@Elijah M I agree with your statement because you can kind of see the reflection of the tv in the window and it would make sense they're watching something interesting through the window.
Deakin (portorchard, WA)
it looks as there just a lot of people looking at something through a window maybe TV or a news article what ever they are looking at is definitely important ,maybe they are watching a moon landing because i say this cause the older man in the front is holing news paper and it says something about the moon. some of them look mad ,maybe there was a release of something of upmost importance and it was stolen or a scam o they didn't get what they paid for . the time zone i would guess late 50's to earl 70's
Lily Z (SKHS)
I think that there is a bunch of people gathering around a building to watch the moon landing. The man is holding a newspaper that says "moon landing". Also, in the reflection of the window I can see a TV. Therefore, these people read the news and are waiting patiently for the moon landing to show on TV. They could be on the phone talking to family, friends, or significant others to update them.
Eden Ogle (SKHS)
@Lily Z agreed
Kailaya H. (skhs)
it appears to be a group of people looking through a window looking at an object of some sort. there's this one lady in the front that has a somewhat stunned face while the others around her have a straight face. it seems like this could be in the 1970s because of their outfits and more dressed up and professional rather than modern society where we don't were suits and dresses often.
Chase K. (SKHS)
In this picture it looks as if the store wads having a grand opening, because there's a group of people standing outside a glass window. They also seem to be waiting, somewhat patiently.
OakleyP (SKHS)
@Chase K. Are you sure? There are many other things that may be going on, such as the pamphlet many people fount, the television, the timeframe, and other clues
Sophia C. (SKHS)
I see a group of adults surrounding a glass window. I they are watching the news because they all seem fascinated. The man in front is holding a newspaper that reads "A U.S flag on the moon" so i can infer that they are watching the news broadcast of the moon landing. Since we landed on the moon in 1969, i believe this photo takes place in 1969.
Ella (SKHS)
it looks like its back in the 60s because it is black and white the hair and what people are wearing is more of a 60s style the group is also standing by a window looking in and looking confused
Shiann N. (SKHS)
There is a group of people surrounding the store. They seem infatuated by what is going on like there watching something on the news.I would say this was taken in the late 1980's because the guy has an old telephone and they are all dressed up so maybe it was Sunday because normally women where hats to church and me in suites and ties.
Natalie J (SKHS)
@Shiann N. I agree with what you're saying. However, I'm sure it has something to do with the Moon Landing from the newspaper the man in front is holding.
Mike (NY)
Mr. Grady's International Relations and Current Events Class thinks that is a crowd watching the Moon Landing.
Gavin C (SKHS)
@Mike i agree because of the newspaper that the man is holding
Titus (SKHS)
looks like some kind of revealing event. On the news paper, it says “U.S flag in the moon” so in most probability they are watching a moon landing, which the most famous moon landing back then was with Neil Armstrong, so they are most likely staring at the TV which is showing the live landing on the moon of Neil Armstrong back in the 1960’s.
Josiah.O (SKHS)
I believe that these people are watching the moon landing. The reason why is the man with the newspaper talking about the moon landing. This is most likely before take off as their curios faces stare at a TV.
Joshua O (SKHS)
I think they are watching the the rocket go in to space and they are observing whats happening I think this because the paper the guy is holding says U.S. flag on the moon so that makes me think of the rocket and or the people putting the flag in the moon
Austin oyler (port orchard)
I believe this picture is taking place in the late 1960s because they are all huddling around what looks like a TV. Because if you look at the reflection in the guys glasses they are watching the first moon landing. if you look closily at the older man holding the newspaper he it shows what looks it shows the astronots that will be going into outer space and i sayt its the late 1960s because if you look at the way they are drest and in 1969 apolo 13 landed
Victoria C. (SKHS)
@Austin oyler good accusation i did not notice the reflection in the window
daedae (skhs)
there like watching tv to see what happened in there town
Josh Gans (Hoggard High School Wilmington, NC)
The group of people are all crowding around what I can only infer to be a tv. When zoomed in, it is possible to make out the man in the glasses to the right's newspaper. From the news paper I can deduce that it is 1969, a year synonomous with the infamous moon landing. Since the headline is US Flag On The Moon, I am willing to bet this is within hours to no more than one day after the moon landing.
daedae (skhs)
@Josh Gans i agree because not everybody has a tv so they found a way to watch the news
Deakin (portorchard, WA)
@Josh Gans nice work josh. i also spotted the titles about the moon landing on the news paper
Juan (DCHS)
In this picture it’s showing a group of people watching an astronaut on television. The evidence is in the mans hands. The news paper shows that they are watching “ A U.S, on the moon” and this was around the 1960s
Madison Z (SKHS)
@Juan that could be very true but the also could be looking at an abject
Dc (Dodge city ks)
There are a group of people watch tv. It look like it 1969. They are watch the moon landing. It says it in the news paper one of the people have.
Ella (SKHS)
@Dc i didn't see the paper at firs but is dose make scene that the TV would be playing the moon landing
Adrian (Kansas)
They are looking at the television to see what is happening on the moon after the landing.
Josiah.O (SKHS)
@Adrian I do agree with the moon landing part, but the mans newspaper might make it seem like is happening right now>
Sophia C. (SKHS)
@Adrian what do you see that makes you think they are looking at a television to see what is happening on the moon after the landing.
Angelica (Dodge City Ks.)
It appears that it is 1969 they are all looking at a tv. This one guy is holding a news paper that say “U.S Flag, On the moon” and Armstrong is the first person to walk on moon. They are all shocked.
Isaiah F. (SKHS)
@Angelica I agree that this is definitely the moon landing.
Haris (Lugo)
In this picture it appears like some people are Watching the news and something bad did going on since they look scared and confused.
Kailaya H. (skhs)
@Haris maybe it could the something after the moon landing.
Elijah M (SKHS)
@Haris if you look closely at the man on the right, he is holding a newspaper that says a U.S flag on the moon. i think they are all shocked more than scared and confused
Calum C. (SKHS)
@Haris but what's happening in the news though
Dominic Vang (Dodge city, Ks)
On the news paper, it says “U.S flag in the moon” so in most probability they are watching a moon landing, which the most famous moon landing back then was with Neil Armstrong, so they are most likely staring at the tv which is channeled to show the live landing on the moon of Neil Armstrong back in the 1960’s.
Kina P. (SKHS)
@Dominic Vang I agree, I also was wondering if this was the moon landing but as I observed more I noticed that they did not seem happy.
Maritza (DCHS)
A group of people are watching a tv through a window and they look like they’re shocked or confused maybe they are trying to process what’s going on
Shiann N. (SKHS)
@Maritza I agree because they are all focused on one thing and they seem interested in what’s happening and maybe it could be someone landing on the moon and that’s why and they are also dressed up maybe for an special occasion.
Jaime (Yeah)
I think they are watching the tv for something important and they are mostly shocked
Shayla (Dodge City KS)
In this photograph, it looks like the group of people are standing, looking through a glass window of a store or shop. It looks like it is from like 1960’s. The group of people look like they are looking at a TV. You can see a 63 in this photo, and there are buildings in the background or the people. A man in the picture is holding a newspaper that says the flag on the moon. The group are watching the spacecraft in space when Neil Armstrong is landing.
Cultural (Kansas)
If this photo was taken around 1969 then there’s a possible chance that all the people there looking towards the TV in the building was airing the mood landing. Which could be the reason all the people are all looking towards the TV.
Lily Z (SKHS)
@Cultural I agree, they're all looking in the same exact area rather than all over the place. You can also see the TV in the reflection as well.
Charmonique (Virginia)
He landed, He planted, He commemorated In this picture, a group of individuals are watching as the U.S. flag is being planted on the moon. The man is holding a brochure that says “A U.S. Flag On The Moon”, which is evidence that the U.S. Flag is being planted on the moon. As Neil Armstong walks on the moon with pride and confidence, people stare in awe as he punctures the moon’s surface with a pole. Due to the phenomenal event taking place, this image was taken on July 20, 1969.
Armando (Mexico)
I figure they are watching a tv and watching in suspense as they are placing a U.S. flag on the moon. They are watching something that’ll impact history forever.
CG (DCHS)
They must be watching something on the tv that seems important, by the reaction given by the people. They look shocked and worried. It could possibly be some type of worldwide news?
Josue (Zapata)
It looks like unhappy people are seeing something from the streets while something is happening inside of a store. Someone is probably getting arrested by police or they’re all seeing something they can’t believe.
Nash (Dodge city, KS)
I think they are watching important news at a television store that has the tv’s on display. I think this because there is a large group of people staring through a display window watching something.
Alexyss (Dodge City)
In this picture it looks like it might be taken around the 60’s.It is in black and white and there’re is a good amount of people outside the window. The group of people look confused I think they are watching on television and its the first person to be sent to the moon. They are all very interested in watching it.
Blanca (DCHS)
In this picture I see a group of people staring at a tv. I think it’s a tv since you can see the top of it , on the bottom of the picture. I also see a man holding onto a newspaper.
Elizabeth (Dodge City, Ks)
What I see happening in this picture, is that there is a big group of people looking through a window watching a T.V. I say this because there is a reflection of a T.V on the window. I can see that they look concerned and shocked. I also see a man holding a brochure that reads “A U.S Flag On The Moon.” I suppose they are witnessing that.
Charmonique (Virginia)
He landed, He planted, He commemorated In this picture, it is a group of individuals watching as a U.S. flag is placed on the moon. The man has a brochure in his hand, which reads "A U.S. Flag On The Moon". This brochure is evidence that they are witnessing Neil Armstrong walk the moon and place the U.S. flag with pride and confidence on national television. The time period of this phenomenal event was around 1969.
Tamiyah J. (Virginia)
They realized, they approached, they aimed. In this picture, a crowd of people are gathered up front a glass window. Judging by their facial expressions, they look determined. Lately, stock market prices had rosen up due to enormous bankruptcy. Because of this current crisis, angry mobs of local residents have confronted banks in order to demand for their savings back. Hopefully, no drastic measures will be made to obtain what the citizens want.
Ainiya F. (Virginia)
They watched ,They learned ,They understood In this picture, there are a group of people gathering around the glass ,which has a reflection of the television in it.One of the men in the crowd are holding a magazine,The people in the crowd’s facial expressions show that they are in shock and they’ve seen something eye catching.Neil Armstrong landed on the moon on July 1969 and he made the accomplishment of being the first man to walk on the moon and this could possibly be what the people in the crowd are watching.
Anna (virginia)
As the crowd gathered around my televisions in the window, like ants to an irresistible trap, they watched as the phenomenal piece of history unfolded. I only wish they would come into my store and actually buy a television set. The moon landing being broadcasted on national television means there should be more business for me, but I feel cheated. They gather, they observe, they walk away, but they never buy.
mikya high (danville va)
So in this picture I noticed there is a group of people standing outside of a store. I know this is back in the day because it is in black and grey and it look like they watching TV that something came on that is bad news that they was not expecting and they look like they is scared or like confused.
Dave (Va)
They came, They saw, They od They came to see the moon landing. They are amassed that Neil Amstrong landed on the moon. They didn’t thank they could do it. They didn't do this ex stepped for special events. They were proud to live in America.
Summer G. (Virginia)
They watched, they wondered, they hoped. The style of the clothing is older, there aren’t a lot of women in the crowd, there’s no new technology, and the picture is black and white, so the image must be a few decades old. They are all focused, and standing outside of a shopping window. Their reasoning must be important because the majority look like businessmen who usually don’t have time to sit and stare. Gatherings like this are usually for significant events, people mostly stay to themselves and don’t interact with one another. A man in the front is holding a newspaper saying the U.S. flag is on the moon, and there are reflections from a television on the glass. I assume they are watching the moon landing in 1969 with Neil Armstrong.
Caroline H. (Danville VA)
They scrutinized, they pondered, they lingered. This is a group of people watching the moon landing. If you zoom in, you can see that the man in the front is holding a brochure that reads “A US flag on the moon.” If you look even closer, you can see a TV in the glare of the window on the left-hand side. We landed on the moon in 1969, so it makes sense that the picture is in black and white with no modern inventions such as cell phones, modern clothes, or modern hairstyles. Their facial expressions also match this occasion, seeing as this was one of the biggest moments in US history at this time, it makes sense that they would be in shock.
Abdul H. (Virginia)
They came, they saw, they watched. Many reasons lead me to believe that these people are looking through a store window at a television, and they are watching the moon landing in 1969. You can see the glare of the television in the bottom right of the photo and you can also see a newspaper in the man in the front's hand that says "A US Flag on the Moon."
Nathan (GMHS)
He arrived, he conquered, he prevailed. The Moon landing was one of the most influential moments in American history. This photo depicts many citizens gathered together to witness the event. The magazine in one of the citizen’s hands stating “U.S. Flag on the Moon” makes this obvious. You can tell that the picture took place new the time of the Mood landing because their fashion style is outdated and the photo is in black and white. They must’ve been in true shock, seeing their faces. I would’ve been in shock too I guess.
Ms. Nimeh's Class (Penfield,NY)
We infer that this is a photo from history because of clothing, glasses, and it is black and white. We think that the people are in a city watching a news event unfold on the tv screen in a store. We think the news is serious and may be bad because of their expressions.
Mrs. Livingston 2nd Grade (Ohio)
We noticed there is a group of people standing outside of a store. We believe this is in the past because of the way they are dressed and it is in black and white. We think they are watching possible a TV and there is breaking news of some sort. We think it is not good news because of their expressions. We think they are in a downtown area because of the buildings.
Eden (PHS)
It seems to me they might be watching the news. Back in the 80's when not everyone could afford a T.V, they would gather around store windows to watch the news. The man holding the newspaper looks stunned. The news paper says something about the U.S. plants the first flag on the moon, they seem like they can't believe it. The old lady looks like she is having a hard time comprehending what is going on.
Miss Lindrose's 5th Grade Blue Group (Johnstown, PA)
We think that there is a huge group of people crowding around a store window in a big city, possibly in New York or Washington D.C., and they are watching the moon landing on the television. They may have been on their way to work and they stopped to watch the television as televisions were very rare in homes at this time. We know this because a man is holding a brochure that says "A U.S. Flag on the Moon" and it has a photo of the Apollo 11 crew. Other clues that led us to this conclusion include the black and white coloring of the photo, the clothes, hair and glasses of the people in the picture, the style of the television and the reflection of the flag on the television. One man also looks like he has a notebook where he is taking notes and another is listening to the radio broadcast on the radio he is holding in his hand. Most of the people look astonished and impressed.
Ms. Mendez (Palo Alto)
@Miss Lindrose's 5th Grade Blue Group We are a 6th grade class in California and we did not notice Apollo 11 in the newspaper. WE did think that probably they were listening to a speech by MLK or JFK. We were also amused by the TV in a box and the radios. We also noticed that there were no African Americans or other POC. That was shocking to us. Everyone looks concerned.
Kailey MacDowell (Phs)
A group of people are watching the moon landing from outside a store window. I see a man holding a newspaper about the moon landing and everyone seems fixated on the TV. I also see that most of the people are older.
Carlee (PHS)
They're watching something on TV, possibly about the moon landing. Everyone seems concerned about whatever is on the TV. There's a speaker on the glass with signs, maybe it's trying to advertise it.
Madison (USA)
I think these people are watching to watch the moon landing. I think this because the man in the front holding an insert from something says, "A U.S. Flag on the Moon" that has astronauts on it. If it's the first moon landing then it'd be 1969? I believe.
Jozlyn (PHS)
There is a crowd of people hovering around a tv. They all look very surprised and focused. The man in front is holding a newspaper that is about the US flag on the moon, this tells me that they are most likely watching a television news broadcasting of this event.
nevaeh (plattsmouth high school)
i think they are watching tv's in a store. They might be watching the rocket take off to the moon or watching them put the flag on the moon when they got there for the first time. they are all dressed nice and the newspaper looks different. it looks like it is in the 60's.
Nataliya (PCSD)
I think that the people outside are watching the moon landing or at least a part of it. There seems to a T.V. on the inside of the glass and that's what they're watching it on and also on the brochure there are headings having to do with the moon.
Maddy (PCHS)
This photo is of a group of pedestrians watching a television in a store window. They all look very shocked and focused. The man in the front is holding a newspaper that says "A U.S. Flag on the Moon", so they are probably watching the moon landing on the television. This photo is older because the moon landing happened in the 60s.
Mrs. M-Ps 2nd Period (Waldorf, MD)
The people in the photo are looking at a TV outside of a store. They are watching a countdown to the US rocket landing where on the moon.
Julia (Nebraska)
It looks like this picture was taken in the 1950s or 60s and they are standing at a window watching a tv. It looks like they are watching a terrible event happen on the tv on the news because some of them look shocked and scared.
Anaya C. (LCMS)
There is a group of people standing in front of the window are watching someone land on the moon. I know this because the man wearing a suit Jacket standing in front of the window is holding a brochure that reads, “A U.S. Flag on the moon. In addition, the woman standing in front of the window has a surprised look on her face. There are several people holding radios as well as a speaker on the outside of the window, so everyone can hear what is taking place. This event is taking place during the 1960’s. The men are dressed formally in ties and suits. In addition, some of the men have sideburns. Also, some of the men’s hair is slicked back, while others have a Beatle haircut. This photo is taking place in a city. Many people are gathered around a storefront window. In addition there are buildings in the background. Furthermore, the attire of the people in the picture are wearing suggests they are heading to jobs in the city. Based on the evidence, many city-goers stopped at a storefront window to watch the first moon landing in the U.S. history.
Parker (Brookline MA)
@Anaya C. Great observations, we missed some of the details that you noticed. We agree with the time frame, and that they are watching a serious event.
Mrs. M-Ps 1st Period (Waldorf, MD)
It looks like they are watching the U.S. put the flag on the moon. The newspaper the man is holding in his hand. They look confused, serious, and surprised. They are watching this on a TV outside of a store.
Photo class Villa Maria College (Buffalo, NY)
Looks like they are watching TV. Two people holding a radio to hear what is going on. A variety of people are there. Maybe they are watching the astronauts return to earth after the first moon landing in 1969. Looks like there is a bank across the street. The thing on the glass next to the woman could be a speaker or a remote for the TV. Everyone looks concerned.
KathleenAOSE (Academy of Saint Elizabeth's)
The people in the picture appear to be looking in a store of some sort. A newspaper a man in holding suggests that they are in the U.S.. The headline is "A U.S. flag on the moon". This was probably around the time when the U.S. made it onto the moon. You can see whatever these people are looking at is very mesmerizing and interesting. Back then, when people did not have televisions in their homes they would watch the TV from a store that had one. My guess is that these people are watching the first rocket land on the moon.
JonteM (SKHS)
It appears to be that they are looking into the store. I say this because I see a glass pane in front of them, and i also suspect that it is some sort of an expensive appliance just looking at the time this picture was taken. It seems that the picture was taken around the early 90's. I have also noticed that everyone's attire looks the same, especially the haircuts.
Kaden E (SKHS)
I Think this people are waiting for something to release it could be anything a product, an historical moment etc, also I think this picture was taken by the early 70s by how the people are dressed and the picture is in black & white.
Mark T (SKHS)
People are gathering around for something like a special event for a store. People look like they are astonished or surprised at the store. Some people are older than other people at the place which is somewhere near a place with a 6.
Absydi J (SKHS)
In this picture, I see a crowd of people looking in the window of some shop. This picture was probably taken in the 60's or 70's because the picture is black and white. The people seem to be watching something in confusion. It looks like there is a camera of some sort on the window. Around it, there are arrows with words on them pointing toward the camera thing. No one seems to be looking at the camera.
Carly B (SKHS)
I think they are watching something important on a T.V. Back then there were T.Vs in stores that you could watch from the window. They could be watching an event happen on the news. It's obviously something many people are aware of. They all seem to be looking in the same direction. They seem interested in what is happening. They are dressed formally. The picture is black and white. The window is very clean. I don't see any children around. Mostly men, one woman. Look to be adults and elderly.
Mrs. Y's 6th Grade (Morrisville, NY)
We think that this picture was taken sometime in the summer because the business people are wearing sunglasses and short sleeves. They appear to be watching something on a television through the window of a tv/appliance store. Some people are also listening to the radio. One man has been reading an article in a magazine about the US flag on the moon. We think the people must be watching a broadcast of the first time man was on the moon.
Carly B (SKHS)
@Mrs. Y's 6th Grade I like how you said it was in the summer time. good observation.
Laura (SKHS)
There are a lot of people looking ate the TV's being exposed in the store. I say that there were televisions by the reflex of the window. Judging by the quality and colors of the image, the way that people are dressed, and the television models, the object was kind of a new thing. People look worried, they are probably watching the news with some really bad and worrying news; the man in front is commenting on something and the guy next to him is listening to the radio, what makes it look like they are really worried about whats going on.
Annelisse (AOSE)
This pictures looks like it takes place around when the moon landing happened. This makes sense because A) the people are dressed like it's the 60s and B) a man is holding a newspaper that reads "A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON." I assume these people are all observing the moon landing or news about the moon landing on a television inside the building of the window they are looking through. They are all dressed very professionally, and while this could have just been the fashion, I assume that this takes place on a day that all of these people had work prior or post to when this picture was taken.
Tomokichi Wong (California)
It looks like they're waiting for the lady in strange clothes to get off the phone so they can get on the phone.
Tierra B. (SKHS)
@Tomokichi Wong The woman isn't on a phone
Bailey P (SKHS)
I think that this photo takes place in the 1960's or around that time period because the way they are dressed. Some details are the man in the front has a magazine that says, " A U.S FLAG ON THE MOON." So the moon landing was in 1969. I think the background is showing some sort of city hall because the shape of the building.
Alacyn G (SKHS)
The hair styles, magazines, clothes, and color mirror the 1960's. It appears that this crowd was windowing shopping and came across a television. In the window reflection you can't see anything playing. But to the left, it looks like there are mini pamphlets with arrows pointing to them about the new television.
Annelisse (AOSE)
@Alacyn G Wow, the arrows were such a good observation! You are right. They were probably pointing to a television or giving details on the moon landing. The hairstyles were also a very insightful observation, especially the lady in the back on the right.
Sophie B (SKHS)
it's one of the first T.V. stores. and the people are interested. it looks like it" in a big cit in the 80s. they're probably watching the news of something like that.
Shaili B (SKHS)
theyre probably watching something happening through that window like an important event because in the past they had t.vs in windows and people would stand outside and watch. or waiting to g inside the building.
Annelisse (AOSE)
@Shaili B Yes, I have heard that people would often gather around store windows when an important event was happening as well! In this case, I believe it was the moon landing.
Tony A (SKHS)
there looking into a store or something that looks closed and the people look like there all looking at something. The photo looks older than other photos.
Chuylyr S (skhs)
i think whats going on in this picture is they are watching something important. i say this because they are all gathered around looking into the same window. i think it may be something important because it is a lager group of people and it looks like hey are starring kind of intense.
Bradyn M (SKHS)
I see many people looking through a store window. They are probably watching something related to the news since one of the men in front of the crowd is holding a newspaper with a report of the moon landing on it. They all look really concerned or serious like something important is happening.
Linnea J (skhs)
In this black and white photo there are several people looking through a big window, their facial expressions seem disturbed. There are more men than women and everyone is dressed formally. A woman holding a large hat looks really shocked. There is something on the window that looks like a fire alarm and there are 4 arrows pointing to it.
KathleenAOSE (Academy of Saint Elizabeth's)
@Linnea J Why do you think they looked disturbed?
Colleen AOSE (Academy of St. Elizabeth)
I believe that this is a photo of a crowd watching a broadcast that is related to the moon landing in a store window. The photo is in black and white, meaning that it is older and a an in the front is holding a newspaper with a headline about the moon landing which took place in the 1960s. My prior knowledge of the 1960s is that they would have store fronts full of televisions so people on the street could stop and see what was happening in the world
Da'vi Guzman- E (SKHS)
This photo is shot in black and white. There are a lot of people outside the building / store looking at something through the window. Most of the guys are dressed up nice maybe just getting off from work then coming across something in the store.
Isaiah T (SKHS)
I think that they are watching a major event on TV. Judging by the way that they are dressed it seems like their in the sixty's. The most major event in the sixty's was Apollo 11 so they are probably watching that.
tazzy (UT)
@Isaiah T i agree they are dressed like they are in the 1960s and are watching something important like apollo 11, you can see on their faces that they are worried.
Jon G (SKHS)
watching tv is what i think is going on in his photo they look intesting
Jack Clay (Bryant High School, Arkansas)
My theory is that the people are watching an event on a television through the window of a store. The clothes, hair styles, and color reflect the 1960's, so it likely occurred then. The crowd must have gathered for a monumental event to be in such high numbers, and their expressions make it seem as though a tragedy has happened. This leads me to conclude that the crowds are watching coverage of John F. Kennedy's assassination, perhaps the only tragedy of the 60's that elicited such coverage and reaction from citizens.
cressa S (skhs)
@Jack Clay i agree with the 1960s cause of there hair , style and the picture color
Bailey P (SKHS)
@Jack Clay I think your prediction on them watching the news about the assassination is correct. The time period fits with the clothes and hair styled the way they are.
Absydi J (SKHS)
@Jack Clay Reading your response made me think how wrong my answer could've been. Then, when I read the conclusion you got to, I realized the peoples' facial reflections could've been caused by the assassination. I really enjoyed.
Speech Group (Bellflower, CA)
We believe that the people in the picture are ongoers that are looking at a television in a building. We know this because of the reflection in the glass. We think they are feeling shocked and depressed because in those old days a president was killed and we think it took place in the 60's or 70's. We know that it takes place in those days because the picture is black and white, also the way they are dressed and their hair. Probably, they might be in front of a TV store because there are reflections of TV's on the glass.
Eliseo's 6-8th gr Photo Class (Brooklyn Heights Montessori School)
We think there are people in the (1960's) watching the news on TV from an electronic/department store window. It is in the US because of the magazine being held— also that magazine talks about the moon landing which could be related to what the people are watching. Everyone's attention is towards one point with a mixture of very expressive emotions from the crowd which makes us believe something important is happening.
Da'vi Guzman- E (SKHS)
@Eliseo's 6-8th gr Photo Class This photo does look like it was taken in the 60's due to the black and white. Possibly all these people are watching something on tv like what this person said.
mike (hawjk)
In this photo I see many people looking into a window. Based off of the clothes people are wearing, the picture seems older and maybe it is a release of something new or maybe the wall of TV's like you can see in the movies. One guy is holding a magazine/newspaper type thing so I believe it is an older photo because now a days people don't ever really hold that sort of stuff. In the background I see some big building, maybe a city hall or something like a court house. In this picture I notice the facial expression of many people analyzing or thinking so possibly some kin of weird or abnormal phenomenon is being showed or released. Also if you look at the article the guy is holding it says "A US flag on the moon."
Marissa J. (SKHS)
This photo shows people observing something through a window. Overall, the photo is a black and white view of individuals looking past a large clear, glass window. They are various ages, some with wrinkles that signify age and others with less and a more youthful expression. They are pressed semi tightly to absorb what is going on. More I can find is that one of the older men in the front is holding a U.S. newspaper featuring the Apollo 11 launch. Considering this, this photo was taken in the 1960's in the U.S. Thus, they are most likely observing the event on the TV. Due to some of the men wearing business suits, this picture was also taken during the workday. That is all I can gather from this picture.
Tristen Teeple (United States)
What I see in this photo is a group of people outside of some type of building. They look to be staring at something through the glass and discussing what it is. Some people are in the back struggling to see and their clothing and style of the photo and the black and white colors looks to be taken back in the old days but also it could be this day in age. On the glass there is something hanging with arrows pointing to it. I can't make out the words on the arrows but they must be gibing directions on what to do with the thing hanging on the glass.
Isaiah T (SKHS)
@Tristen Teeple that seems smart and sexy
Vincent (SMS)
People are gathering around for something like a special event for a store. People look like they are astonished or surprised at the store. Some people are older than other people at the place which is somewhere near a place with a 6.
Laura (SKHS)
@Vincent actually, i don't think it's a special event; you can see how worried they look, mostly the old lady in the front. and also you can see the reflects of televisions on the glass, so probably they are watching the news or something.
KathleenAOSE (Academy of Saint Elizabeth's)
@Laura Why do you think they look worried?
Kyle (Warminster,pa)

Shaili B (SKHS)

28 October 2019 I think this was taking place in the 1960s. They might be looking at the tv because we see the reflection of the tv. I think the people in the picture are worried. People are listening to radios.
ella (MT)
I think these people are gathered around to watch the first spaceship launch to the moon. I can infer this because of the newspaper the man is holding, and the reflection of the TV's on the window. They are probably watching it on TV. All the people we can see are dressed up very nicely. Maybe they just got off work and are watching it through this window to watch it on time.
Evan (sms)
Looks like a people who are about to go to work and they stopped to watch the news. Something in the news is sad or depressing. This is why they look sad or emotional.
Creedince (St. Ignatius)
I think this is an old photo because you can see in the reflection the TV has nobs on it and it isn't like today's TV's that are flat screen. They are watching the moon landing on TV because the man is holding a paper that says "A U.S flag on the moon.
Colleen AOSE (Academy of St. Elizabeth)
@Creedince Hi! I agree with you that this is an old photo and that what they are watching is related to the moon landing. It is interesting that you noticed the knobs on the television, another piece of evidence that this is an old photo.
kristina (Pennsylvania)
28 October 2019 I think this was taking place in 1960 because the old man is holding the newspaper about the moon. It looks like they came from church because they are dressed so nicely. I think they're looking at the tv because you can see what they are looking at from the reflection. Their facial expressions look worried or concerned. There are 2 people holding a small radio to their ear. It also looks like there is a speaker glued to the window. I think the people were watching something about a spaceship.
kristina (Pennsylvania)

One observation I made is, the old man in the dead center is holding a paper that says “U. S flag planted on the moon!” from this I can claim that it takes place sometime in the sixties. There is also a man listening to a transistor radio, further evidence pointing towards taking place in the sixties. It is possible that they are watching apollo 9 or 12 coming back to earth.
Brooke (pa)
I think this was taken place in the 60s because the man in the middle is holding a paper that says the U.S flag has been placed on the moon. I thinky the people in the picture look worried because there facial reaction shows concern. I think that they were watching and listening to when the people on the moon.
brandon (a location)
I think this was taken in the 1950’s the reason i think this i because there is a newspaper that says a flag on the moon and people are holding radios and what i think is happening in this picture is that people are gathered staring at a tv in a store. >:O
anthony (pa)
I think it takes place in the 1960 i think the people in the picture look consurend

@anthony i think your right

28 October 2019 I think this was in 1960 because the dude in the middle has a paper. They are look at the tv because there is a reflection. The lady mouth is open and her hand is on her head. They may be watching American landing on the moon. Or they may be watching John F. Kennedy's death. lady'sare looking
Joseph (Montana)
There's a group of people standing outside of a glass wall staring at something inside, which I'm guessing is a TV because there's something in the bottom right, which I'm guessing is the top of a TV. They all seem to be business or office workers, except for the elderly woman in the front, who seems to be wearing a sundress along with a sun hat. The man wearing the grey suit holding his wrist seems to be holding a news magazine about the U.S. planting the flag on the moon, so maybe they're all watching something about the space landing. There also seems to be something on the glass, but I can't tell what the words on the arrows say.
Tre (Montana)
The article is about the first spaceship that was to be launched to the moon. This can be seen by the man who is holding a newspaper stating that there is now a U.S. Flag on the moon. Though some of them do look bored, and some of them excited so maybe its something entirely different that they are looking at beyond the glass. But I do think it is the first spaceship to be launched, but is it behind the glass? Or is something else in there like TVs' showing the spaceship take off?
Nicole (sms)
This article is about something that contributed to the first spaceship launch to the moon. I can infer this because if you zoom in the article you can see the man is holding a newspaper that says ¨A U.S. flag on the moon¨. My question is, what are they staring at through the glass?
sebastian (sms)
They are watching the first moon landing in the world. You can tell by the way their faces are surprised.
Patricia (SMS)
I think that the group of people are watching a television with the news on it or something because you can see the reflection of he T.V. in the window.
lesli (sms)
I think everyone is gathered around a store that has a tv because everyone seems to be looking in the same direction. I think that they are watching something about the U.S. flag being on the moon. I made that guess because the man next to the lady has a newspaper about it.
JonteM (SKHS)
@lesli agreed. I was going to say something about a new tv coming out.
Tyler (sms)
I think that the people are watching a tv inside a tv store. They are all concentrating on something and seem very serious. Maybe the news is on and something very serious is happening.
Hunter (SMS)
In this picture it looks like a group of people are looking in the the building that may have many tv's because back then there were tv's in buildings where you could watch the news or if something bad happened. That is what I think is going on in this picture. I think that this picture was taken a long time ago because it's in black and white.
Ryan (SMS)
I think that all these people are here to get something from the store that they might not have. Maybe technology that they don't have like cars, tv's, or maybe a tragic event happened in the store. I think this because some people in the crowd are shocked, saddened, and concerned. All their eyes are focused on one thing in the store.
Jonathan (sms)
I think what is going on in this picture is that there are people waiting for doors to open so they can vote because theirs stickers on the windows and it looks like arrows pointing at a box and there's a guy holding a paper that says something about war on it, he probably studied about something because they have to vote for something very important.
Rylee (sms)
What I see in this picture is a lot of people in front of a building, looking through a huge window and staring at something on the other side. I also noticed a black object in the window. It looks more like a phone. It also has arrows surrounding it. Is this a new phone product and people want to see it? Or are they just watching someone or something?
Chuylyr S (skhs)
@Rylee i agree with you it does look as though they could be looking at a new product for sale and there is a bigger group of people because it is an eye catching product.
ELA (MA)
The class has several ideas as to what is happening in this picture. -We see a large group of people who do not look happy watching tv outside a news station. It is the 1950's because the photo is in black and white. The picture takes place in NYC, because of the large crowd of people. -A group of people watching 9/11. -A group of people watching someone famous on tv. -The lady with the hat is hiding something.
Benjamin (Loeb)
I think its white people looking at a sit-in. They all look very uncomfortable and irritated. You can see with the older man in the front that the US had just landed on the moon.

Reading over your comments, I'm struck by the diverse ideas surrounding the people in this picture, the time period, location, and the men and women's focus of attention. There are distinct observations such as clothing style and magazine cover indicating a dated time period, and most of you agree that this crowd of people are concerned, worried, shocked, and/or amazed. There is a story being told here with American culture of a certain time reflecting myriad character traits and plot narratives. What more can we find?!
Meghan P (SKHS)
I believe the people in this picture are gathered around a store that sells TV's. I believe the news channel is on and something important just happened. I think this because the crowd is diverse. One thing everyone does seem to have in common is their clothes. They seem to be wearing really nice clothing. Suits, dresses, and hats. It might be in the middle of the day during working hours, since everyone looks so professional.
Preston D. (SKHS)
There is a large group of people staring through a window and they appear to be watching something very intently. So i believe this picture was taken around 1960's becasue of the black and white film and there is a man smoking a cigar which was common around this time-also the clothing they are wearing is 60's themed. Another detail I noticed is that they are all white-or at least appear to be. There is a man holding a brochure for the world new in the front. In conclusion, I believe these people are looking into a store because there is a new product that they have never seen before and they want to know what it does.
Saige H (SKHS)
There are people standing outside looking through a window. It seems like they are watching a TV inside the store because they are all looking in the same direction and there is a reflection of a TV in the window. Most of the people look mad or confused. The man in the middle is holding a newspaper that says "A U.S flag on the moon". They are in the U.S, because the words in the newspaper the man is holding are in English, and the paper says U.S. It also seems like it is in the 70s, and they are watching the moon landing.
Abigale D. (SKHS)
I think what is happening is that they have all come to gather to see the first moon landing. Why I think this is in the man's hand at the very front he is holding a newspaper with the title "A U.S Flag On The Moon." And Also most of the men there look professional giving off a vibe that science is a interest of theirs. In the back you can see a very pristine looking building, with the whole photo being in a gray tone telling us what time period it is.
Ryan S (SKHS)
based on the evidence in this picture i think this is based in the 70's or the 60's and i think they are all gathered around watching TV through the glass window
Svend T (SKHS)
A bunch of people are in a store looking in on a TV as you can see a reflection on in the window It makes me say that because they are all interested and my guess would be that it is from 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission on the moon were America became the first to land on the moon. I also find a man holding a news paper where the three astronauts are on so that just proves my point. It looks really quite probably because they are so fascinated about the moon landing and are listening to what happens.
Wyatt P. (SKHS)
They are most likely looking at a set of TV's that are in front of a convenience store. This looks like it was around the time of the 80's.
avery y (SKHS)
I think that whats going on in this photo is that there's a large group of people watching TV through a store window. on the guys news paper it looks like it says "a u.s. flag on the moon" so i'm guessing this is placed some time in the early 1970's. in the photo the people look very confused and almost mad. they could be patently waiting for something on the news.
Gabriel C. (south kitsap)
I believed this a photo of a group of people standing outside of a store and people are like watching some type of news and they are interested to see it. Some of the people don't look happy because they probably hearing something on the news that was bad and it looks like it took place in the 60's because on hoe they dress and the old building in the background.
Evan M. (SKHS)
I think that in the picture there might have been an evacuation of some sort. I can see the people in the picture are dressed formally and nicely which tells me that this might have been some sort of business and the building was evacuated. The people all look annoyed and surprised and they look like they might be observing the damage done in whatever disaster there might have been.
Dylan C (SKHS)
It looks like people gathered around TV watching the news. Or a sports event or something else. I'm guessing it was taken it was taken in the 60s Just by the way the TV looks and how the people are dressed and gathered. They are also in America because the guy holding a magazine says U.S. News.
Deanna D. (SKHS)
in this picture it looks like people are gathered around to watch the news or a podcast on TV's in a window. everyone is all crowed in front of a big glass window and look very concerned about what is going on. one man in the front is holding what looks like a news paper that says "U.S. NEWS". two other men in the front are holding a hand held radio and are listening to what is happening. this little old woman also in the front of the crowd looks very very worried about what she is seeing. it looks like all of the people are standing on the other side of the street that what seems to be city hall. there is also arrows with a little latch, there are words but i cannot read them. this also seems to take place in the 1900s.
LaniO (SKHS)
A gathering of people looking into large revealing windows. Why I say this, is because I see what looks to be tall buildings in the background. This gathering could be placed in the middle of town. There is a man in a dark colored suit, holding a newspaper article. Looking closely at the cover page, you can see, "A U.S Flag on the Moon". The postures and expressions given by these people, they look interested in knowing what is going on. The black and white filter on this photo, along with how these people are dressed, look like this was taken in the 1960's. Which had a big significance with the Moon.
Justin (SKHS)
there are a lot of people looking at something behind the glass. there is a lady on the phone in the front and all of them seem to be looking hard at whatever it is. the man in the front has a news paper. there is something on the glass with arrows pointing at it.
Kadance L. (SKHS)
It looks like a black and white image of a bunch of people staring at something that is in a window or store front. They are all looking at the thing in the window with either confusion or disbelief. Especially the old women in the front she looks very amazed and has her mouth open. In the font there is an older man that is holding a paper packet that says US news "A U.S FLAG ON THE MOON." so they could be watching the moon landing.
jontae m. (SKHS)
i believe this is a picture of people at a TV store watching something historical happening such as a presidential speech or maybe the moon landing. by looking at the paper in his hand it says us flag on the moon this make think that they are watching the man walking on the moon landing. this puts the time of this photo taken around 1969.
Averi-Jade M (SKHS)
it seems as they are watching something very important through a stores television. There is a crowd of people standing behind a glass door that look very nervous and or annoyed. In one mans hand there is a booklet that has "U.S. NEWS" on it so they are most likely watching something invovling the news.
JTrot (TN)
In this picture, we can clearly see a group of individuals gathered around a building. They all seem to be focused on a particular object beyond the glass they are peering through. This object seems to be a television as evident by its reflection in the glass. Most likely, a significant event has recently occurred that has made a headline on the news and all of these people have come to figure out what is going on. One man is holding a newspaper article that says the US on the moon which may suggest that the event is the moon landing. All of the individuals portrayed in the image are dressed formally as if they have recently gotten out of work or some other event which suggests that the event being depicted in the television is momentous enough to garner their attention. The lady found at the front of the crowd appears almost astonished or pleasantly surprised by the event that has recently occurred, further suggesting the significance of the event being discussed on the television.
Marissa J. (SKHS)
I agree completely. I love how detailed your observations are. You definitely are developing a photographer's eye.
Miguel (SMS)
This picture is from the 1980s and they are looking at the brand new phone that America just invented. The people are looking at how the phone works. They want to get it cause they are looking at ads the people say that they will have enough money. The people just want the phone so they can see what it does there all just staring at it.
Wyatt P. (SKHS)
@Miguel I wouldn't say it is a new phone, maybe just some headline news.
Claire N. (SKHS)
@Miguel I disagree. They might've been showing a phone but I think this photo was taken before the 80's because of the man's newspaper that says "A U.S flag on the moon." This man wouldn't be holding a newspaper that said that if it was the 80's because the first moon landing was in 1969.
Saige H (SKHS)
@Miguel I don't agree because there is a reflection of a TV in the window, and no evidence that there is a phone.
Elvis (Clarksville TN)
in the picture, a group of people form a somewhat broad range of ages and gender are looking at one singular thing in the store. the people seem to be waiting, some look bored, some look worried. although we can't draw the exact conclusion as to what they are looking at specifically, it seems to be of significant importance. something that is worth spending time looking at and wanting on.
Christopher (SMS)
I think it's a new store selling new items that the people have never seen and people are gathering to take a look at it. I think this because on the window there is something taped and arrows pointing at it it may be some thing new that they can only get at that store. Also some people look confused like the lady with the dress.
travis (sms)
I think that they are looking through the window at a TV store.I think something really big is happening because they all look confused.
Dylan C (SKHS)
@travis Yes that is what i think too because you can see an old tv in the reflection on the window
Zach (Clarksville)
I believe this is a picture of people watching a TV inside of the building. The TV is showing the first astronauts to the Moon returning to Earth. This is because one of the people up against the window is holding a pamphlet that indicates that there is a U.S. flag on the Moon and that this is new achievement maybe even so new that the people who put it there have not even returned to Earth.
Mark (sms)
I think that a store is closed and the people want somthing in the store that everyone wants.
Preston D. (SKHS)
@Mark I completely agree.
Nikki (Tennessee)
I believe these people are gathered at a store front displaying televisions to watch news reports about the moon landing. There is a pamplet in the older man's hand in the front that reports about "A U.S. Flag on the Moon." Also, there is a reflectoin of a television in the glass. I think the box with the arrows on the glass is meant for audio.
Izzy Stapp (TN)
People are watching a TV behind a glass store front. Probably the man on the moon landing and placing the US Flag. The man in the front row with the magazine says "A U.S. Flag on The Moon", and some may have what looks like radios against their ears to hear what is going on.
Skylar (SMS)
People are store front and wathcing TV that is in the store. They might be watching something that has to do with the moon. The Apollo 11 mission was to land on the moon and the newspaper says a U. S flag has landed on the moon. They seem to be quite upset and are on the phone. This was probably in the 1970's.
Ryan S (SKHS)
@Skylar i agree with your response because of the justification and evidence u pointed out
Evan M. (SKHS)
@Skylar I agree that this was in the 70s.
Svend T (SKHS)
@Skylar I agree with you but i want to point out that Apollo 11 was in 1969 and not in the 1970's
Douglas (SmS)
I think that the people are either impatiently waiting for something because they all look like there annoyed. Or they are watching something because in the glass I see what looks like a T.V. One of the guys in the front has a book that says U.S. news on it, maybe they are people from the news, or newspaper company. They are all higher class people because they all are dressed professionally, or nicely. The women in the front has the look of shock on her face, maybe whatever she is waiting on or is watching shocks her. It might be day outside because one of the guys in the back looks like he is wearing sunglasses. They might be watching the news, maybe something terrible has happened because of the looks on their faces.
Abby (SMS)
This photo was taken in the 1960's because the little booklet that the man is holding says "A U.S. flag on the Moon." The people standing around the window are looking through with faces of shock because they are watching the flag being placed on the moon. I think this because the holes in the window might be their so they can hear the people announce that they have landed on the moon and because of the booklet.
ELA (MA)
We have a few different idea about what is going on in the picture. -We see a group of people who are dressed up and are upset and shocked because a clothing store has closed. The store could have closed because it was vandalized. The store could have new owner and the hours could have changed. We say that it takes place in the 1950's or 1960's because of the hairstyles. -Another idea is that this group of people are watching election results on a storefront tv. Their expressions are mad and aggravated.
VTS Moderator (Tacoma, Washington)
Thanks @ELA, in making meaning of the content of this image, you've presented new ideas to our ongoing narrative. Noting a possible backstory, you speculate that the people may be upset due to possible vandalism, or an impromptu change of hours. Another hypothesis is that the onlookers are mad and aggravated watching election results. What is it that makes you think the people are watching election results? Keep on looking and sharing!
ELA (MA)
@VTS Moderator We think they are watching elections results because some people look mad and some people look serious.
VTS Moderator (Tacoma, Washington)
Thank you @Alan in Utah for sharing your students' observations. Student 2 has a new theory about location; drawing our attention to the 3 numbers on the building in the background, he/she makes the connection to inner-city planning, speculating the location may be closer to the center of the city or town. ....What more can we find?

they are watching some great technological achievement like putting man on the moon or something along those lines. My reasons for thinking this is by looking at the reactions on there faces. the lady is shocked and concerned, while most of the men are intrigued by whats happening.

The old people are looking threw the glass window some are looking surprised and some look confused. They are all dressed up in their suits or the old lady is in a dress the man in the suit who is holding the newspaper it says something about landing on the moon. You can see a reflection of tv but I don't know if something is playing maybe its about the first man landing on the moon and maybe the newspaper is about how he is going to land and they are just watching it on the tv.

there is a large group of people standing outside of what looks like a store staring through a large glass window and they look baffled or curious about whatever they are staring at. it could be many things but it looks like they are looking at a television that could be playing something important like maybe the first moon landing or a terrorist attack.

in this image theirs a group of people of all age they are looking in a window of a shop that sells tv based on the way they look i think they look amazed by the tv because its the very first one
braxton daniel (landmark sf)
i feel like they are looking through a window at someone or something that is fascinating and astonishing that they are so dumbfounded on.
VTS Moderator (Tacoma, Washington)
@braxton daniel Thank you for sharing your observations @braxton daniel. You're looking at the expressions on peoples faces and theorizing the content they're looking at is fascinating and astonishing. Have you formulated more ideas? What more can you find?
braxton daniel (landmark sf)
@VTS Moderator some look like someone might be troubled or scared some look confused or puzzled some look angry
Kimberlin Barahona (Utah)
It seems as if they are watching something really important to our history. As you can see the old man is holding a news paper and everyone around him has their focus on the television. It also seems right around the time a world war was going on or maybe the first flight to the moon. Just something that made history.
Mye (Landmark HS Spanish Fork, Utah)
In this image we have a group of several people looking through a window at something incredible. It is shown through the people looking on in awe, and talking on the phone while not moving their eyes off of it. The newspaper is for U.S News.
NICO IXTLAHUAC (Spanish fork UT)
looks like a bunch of people gathered up at what i think is a TV store so maybe you all these people were walking by and they saw something going maybe it was something serious going on i don't exactly know but it is something that caught everyone eyes
Reagin (Landmark High)
They are watching the very first man landing on the as you can see from them holding it in the mans hand that says "US flag on the moon". They are watching in ah at how the man was able to put the flag on the moon.
heidi (landmark)
theirs people looking at something through the glass window and it seems like its something very important based on how many people is watching this one man in the front has a newspaper and it has something about some astronauts so probably something to do with the first landing on the moon and maybe thats what there looking at
Steven (Utah, Landmark.)
looks like people are wanting to see what is happening and something important
jacoby (landmark)
looks like people are looking through glass and they all seem disappointed. they're probably watching the news or something. its taken around the 70's you can tell because the news paper the dudes holding says something about the flag on the moon
Deanna D. (SKHS)
@jacoby yes exactly but by their facial expressions it looks like they are worried and something had went wrong.

from what i can see it looks like a bunch of people looking into a store or looking into a building and it lloks like its bbefore there was color pictures
Alan (la puente)
In this picture there is a large group of people because they are looking inside a window at the very first TV. It is obvious that there is a reflection of a box TV in the window. This concludes that they are looking at the first TV where they live because they are just standing there and they look amazed by it. Based on the image I think it's the first TV because the picture is in black and white. This proves that it's the first TV where they live because it's in black and white. This concludes that this is the very first TV where they live because of all my information
VTS Moderator (Tacoma, Washington)
Many of you are interpreting the expressions on peoples faces as concern, confusion, and possibly even shock. @Alan and others are in agreement that the newspaper in the hands of the man central in the image with news of, "A US Flag On The Moon", identifies a particular time in history - July 1969, while @Bill suspects they may be watching news of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. What more can we infer?
Natalie (Montana)
these people appear to be watching something through a window. At first i thought that this was a store opening, or something like that, but i have never seen this big of windows in a store, and this sort of crowd at a store opening. So then i thought that it could be a place for people to view something happening that could be dangerous or harmful to the public. There seems to be a few official looking people holding walkie-talkies, and a thing on the window that appears that you could talk through it. I think that this is a big public event as well, because a guy is holding a paper about it, most likely.
Emmy (Montana)
I think that these people are watching something very important in our history, of some sort. I see a speaker or remote control that has four arrows pointing at it, that each say something-maybe a warning. I see a man holding a newspaper that says "U.S. NEWS" so it is a huge thing. I see reflections of old televisions in the windows, one on the far left and far right. I see that on the newspaper it says "a u.s. flag on the moon"....maybe they blasted off to the moon or are returning home and they are watching it.
Derrick Gibbs (St Ignatius MT.)
The first thing I notice in this picture is that there are people standing outside a building on the sidewalk. And They're all facing the same direction looking through the window into the building. the picture doesn't show what the people are looking at but they look very interested in whatever it is. I say that because I see people looking at something through a window. Another thing I notice is that all the men in the picture are in suits and the women is in a dress. there is also a big building across the street with big numbers on it. most of the men are wearing glasses and the picture is in black and white.
Alan in Utah (Utah)
My students thought, Student 1: In this picture it looks as if the people outside the window are watching something on the other side. Considering that one of the men is holding a paper about the moon landing, this has to be somewhere between 1960's and the 1970's. The tabs on the window say something about "turn" and "select" and there are 3 T.V. reflections in the window and a screen that is turned on with a speaker inside the desk in the corner. 2 of the men are holding radios up to their ears. Behind them there are 2 buildings, one that looks more official like a bank and the other has 3 numbers on it which means since they are smaller numbers it is probably closer to the middle of the city or town. I feel as if they are watching something being broadcast about Neil Armstrong's moon landing. It's something publicly intriguing because of the group of people watching it so it has to be something that matters to the people watching it. Student 2:I believe this picture was taken in 1968 - 1972. there is a man holding the newspaper, It says something about a man landing on the moon. There are lots of women and men standing in front of a glass window. If you look close you can see 2 TV reflections. I think that they are watching the men landing on the moon. Another reason why I say this there are a few people that are listening to radios.
VTS Moderator (Tacoma, Washington)
Thank you, @Beau for pointing out the nuanced observation of the reflection on the interior of the window...."our side of the glass". What more can you find?
lanie (montana)
I think this people on the street watching the moon landing or take off through a store window in the 1960s. I think this because one of the men is holding a brochure that says something about the moon and has three astronauts on the cover. If you look closer you can see the reflections of the tvs which is another clue that this takes place in the 60s because they are very old and it shows that they are looking through a window. I think they are all on their way to work because the men are all dressed in suits.
Alan (Akron, Ohio)
Even though I am too old to be a student, I cannot resist responding. Although I initially wondered whether this was a photo from November 22, 1963 (the Kennedy assassination), the copy of U.S. News and World Report in the one gentleman's hands proves that this was from Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969. The people are all gazing through the window of an electronics store at a TV screen. I will guess that this is not the day of the moon landing itself, but rather the splashdown upon Apollo 11's return. First, the magazine refers to a flag planted on the moon. I doubt the magazine would have referred to that in advance of the landing. It was a dangerous mission that was not certain to succeed. Second, the members of the crowd all have concerned looks on their faces, not celebratory ones. They are waiting for the splashdown to occur, but it has not yet and they are reserving their celebrations until it is certain that nothing went wrong.
Patrick (school)
It look like theirs a bunch of people looking at a TV maybe at the new or maybe it's the first TV they have seen because they look surprised at what their seeing. I don't think their looking at the the news because if you look closely in the widows you can see that the TV is off.
Billy (Warminster PA)
28 October 2019 Everyone in the picture appears to be either shocked or concerned or confused. I know this because the lady in the front has her mouth hanging open and her arm raised in surprised. I think that this is taking place in the 1960s I know this because the way the man with the newspapers glasses look old. Their ties with the with the clip in it because that is what they wore in that time period, I think that they are watching the assassination of Martin Luther King because that happened in that time period and they are drawn to the tv in the right hand side in the bottom corner and their more people trying to crowd the little tv.
JJ (landmark sf)
@Billy i totally agree that they look totally confused or shocked because of something going on in that time period
Ross (Mcpherson)
The photo looks to have been taken in the 1900's because of their attire and the quality of the photo.(black & white) I think that the people that were captured in this photo were watching news on a T.V. The man in the middle is holding a news paper that has an article labeled "A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON." Not only does that tell us that this photo was taking a while back, but it also was a pretty big/important part of history.
Rudy (st. ignatius, montana)
it looks like there are people outside of a shop looking at the tv and looking at the news or there has been a new thing on the tv and there looking at new events
Hunter (Montana)
I think that they are looking in at something that has to do with an astronaut or something because of the paper that the guy in the middle is holding. It also says '' U.S. NEWS'' on the front of the paper and u can see three guys in astronaut suits.
Beau (Montana, USA)
Some of the the things I notice in the photo are how all the people are all standing outside some glass. While on the glass it seems to have a little box on it. Also the old lady is resting her hat on the glass which give the photo a very strange look. then there is something on our side of the glass from where the photographer is at and one man is looking at us. Know back to the old woman she seems confused by what she is looking at. actually most of the people look confused. Then there is the time traveler looking dude in the back which is kinda funny to me. With that it is all I can infer about the photo.
VTS Moderator (Tacoma)
@Uliana, @AOSE, and others have made observations that suggest the image is dated. @Uliana, you mention radios; please expand - what makes you think these are radios?
Hannah (Warminster)
I think this is taking place in 1960 Why do i think that because The lady in the Front is Thinking Shocked things on the Tv.
MJ (Warminster PA)
Everyone in the picture appears to be either shocked or concerned or confused. I know this because the lady in the front has her mouth hanging open and her arm raised in surprise. I think this taking place in the 1960s. I know this because the skinny ties that those people are taken from that time period. I think the people are shocked and confused because the lady has her mouth wide open and some of the people are trying to get into the crowd.
Olivia (United States)
I think in this photo they are watching the news about the landing of the astronauts because the man in the front has a magazine saying the US flag is on the moon. They look shocked and kinda scared. They are probably worried about the astronauts return back home.
justin waddell (wormenster)
Everyone in the picture appears shocked or concerned or confused. I know this because the lady in front has her mouth hanging open and her arm raised in surprise. I think this is taking place in 1960 I know this because of the way everyone is dressed. They could be watching the assassination of Martin Luther King or President John F Kennedy.
L.A (PA)
28 October 2019 Everyone in the pictures appears to be shocked, confused and concerned i can tell this because the lady has her hand on her had and there's a man that has the newspaper and wondering. I also know that the people are from 1960 because of the way people are dressed and the way they group up.
Uliana AOSE (Academy of St. Elizabeth)
The people are watching the landing on the moon or the return home of the astronauts. One of the men has a newspaper in his hand. The headline says, “A U.S. Flag on the Moon.” On the window, there seems to be a remote control, with arrows pointing to it try me. The remote must be a new invention being sold. The people are not interested in it. The window most likely has a row of televisions in it that the people are intensely watching. Several people have radios in their hands. Based on the newspaper and their concerned faces, the people are most likely worried about the safe return of the astronauts to Earth. None of them seem to be in a rush. They want to know what is going on. The people in the back row are looking over the shoulders, trying to see what is happening.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
Many of us are trying to figure out where and when this image was taken. Many believe this photograph was taken in a big city in the United States. Do you agree or disagree? What do you see that makes you say that? There has been wider debate about when this was taken—some ideas include 1800s, during WWII; in the 1950s or 1960s. Are there context clues that can help us narrow down when this might have been taken? Is there additional information you need to help you figure out where and when this was taken? What questions do you need answers to do come to a conclusion?
Hazel (WMS)
In this image, there are many men and women gathered behind a glass door with a look of shock on their faces. It is in black and white, and the style of clothing makes me think that the image was taken a while ago. There is one guy holding a piece of paper talking about breaking news, and something about NASA. This leads me to the conclusion that they are watching a T.V. when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.
Uliana AOSE (Academy of St. Elizabeth)
@Hazel The newspaper headline says, "A U.S. Flag on the Moon." So your assumption about Neil Armstong is correct. I think that they are watching the return of the astronauts. They all have concerned faces as if they are worried if Neil Armstong and the other astronauts will return safely.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Heather S. pointed out some details that haven't been mentioned yet like the numbers on the building in the background and the ribbon on the woman’s hat. Details like this enhance the stories we tell and write. How might we use describing words to bring out the small details of this image? I might say that the ribbon is long, thick, shiny, and appears frayed on the ends. I could describe the numbers as in a san-serif font. What more can you find, and how can you enrich your descriptions of your observations?
Paige (WMS)
I think business women and men watch on television as Neil Armstrong first lands on the moon. They all look astonished and shocked. A man holds an article stating "A U.S. Flag On The Moon", which is what told me that they were watching when man first lands on the moon. They appear to be in a city, watching the broadcast on television in a store. I think this is somewhere in the 1930s as the photo is black and white and by the type of clothing they wear.
Allison (WMS)
I think that they are watching Neil Armstrong take off because in the corner of the screen there is an old TV so I think it is about the 1950s time period.
Beau (Montana, USA)
@Allison I like your thinking but if you really look at the TV there is nothing playing on it so it may have turned off or something like that but, personally I don't think that correct.
Olivia (United States)
@Allison Agreed! Also they look worried! Im sure they are worried about Armstrong landing safely.
lanie (montana)
@Allison I agree but I think it would be in 1969 since that was the time we went to the moon.
Juvy Inocando (School)
I see a lot of people staring through the window looking at something. The people might be looking at something of waiting on something. I see people that are dressed formally. I also see a guy that's holding a newspaper. I see a hat on the window. The peoples faces are saying something like "whats going on" and they kinda look confused.
Luke (WMS)
I think that this was set in 59 because you can see someone holding a newspaper with "A U.S. Flag On The Moon." I think they could even be looking at the moon landing through the window. I think they are also in New York City because I see a bank which leads me to believe that they are in an urban city.
Luke (WMS)
@Luke meant to say 69 not 59
Chelsey (WMS)
In this picture, there are two women and the rest of the people are men, and all of them are dressed very nice. I think that they are looking at pictures of someone who recently passed away, or looking at their belongings, because they all look sad.
Arthee (WMS)
I believe that men and women are watching a big sports event and that their preferred team is losing. I believe that this event may be the Superbowl, due to the fact that this photo was taken in the United States. This event could also be related to baseball, as it used to be a popular sport in the United States.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Arthee thanks for sharing! What do you see that makes you say that these spectators are fans of the losing team of a sporting event?
Uliana AOSE (Academy of St. Elizabeth)
@Arthee I think they are watching the return of the astronauts from the first trip to the moon. The newspaper has an article with the headline "A U.S. Flag on the Moon." This means that they would have already landed on the moon because they can't predict the future. They all have anguished faces glued to possibly televisions behind the window.
Mohamed (WMS)
I think these people are from the 1980-2000s. I think they are waiting for a new thing which is a phone. I think so because there is a thing on the glass of the place.
Samantha (WMS)
The picture is in black and white which leads me to believe it's older. One of the men is holding a US newspaper which has the first trip to the moon on it. I think that they're watching it live on some sort of broadcast.
solomon (WMS)
I think they are all watching the moon landing from the streets in 1969. They all look engrossed in what they are watching, and they could be amazed because the landing rocket just hit the surface of the moon.
Olisa (WMS)
I think this is back when Neil Armstrong went to the moon and put the U.S flag there. These people are watching and listening to a tv showing the event live. It is a very historical moment so they are very concentrated while watching the tv.
Camryn (WMS)
Based on the attire and the quality of the photo it looks like it could be from the 20th century. The news paper the man is holding helps us figure out that this photo is taken around the time of the first moon landing. I think these people could be staring at a broadcasting of the first moon landing as their facial expressions show that they are very focused and interested.
Brayden (WMS)
I think that this picture takes place in 1969 during the moon landing. I think this is true because the people in the picture are watching in awe at what could be a television screen. Also, the image is in black and white.
Chinedu (WMS)
I see adult men and women looking into a window staring at something. Some are in shock, others are observing. I see one adult holding a cigarette, and another holding a newspaper. All the people are dressed like they just came from work. I wonder what all the people are staring at? Why are they all dressed formally? And why are most of them men? I think the adults might be looking at some sort of sale because inside the store I see a hat.
Meredith (WMS)
I think that it is a shop that has a bunch of televisions and a bunch of men and women have gathered to watch the moon landing. This is why this photo is in black and white. I see mostly men in this photo as well. I got to this conclusion by looking closer and reading the newspaper in which it said U.S News. "The U.S Flag On The Moon" and had a photograph.
Grayson (WMS)
I think these people are watching as apollo 13 lands on the moon. The man in the middle is holding a newspaper about the first landing on the moon in 1969. In 1970, apollo 13 launched. So I think they are watching Apollo 13 lift off.
brody.b (north Carolina)
they are looking at something new in a store
Natalie (Montana)
@brody.b what new thing, do you think?
Beau (Montana, USA)
@brody.b maybe they are looking at the new TV or something interesting like that because it defiantly has there focus.
nick (wms)
I think they are U.S. citizens watching the 1969 moon landing because the U.S. news article has the moon landing in it.
Marissa (Watts)
I believe this picture is located in the United States due to the "USA News" newspaper in a man's hand. I think these people have come from work to watch something live on T.V. through a store window. I think this because most of the men are in work clothes and some men are carrying briefcases.
Morgan (WMS)
In this picture, I think people are gathered around a store window looking at a new product. OR watching the first sucessful rocket launch on Tv. I came to my inference because the magnazine shows three astronauts on it. One looking like Mr. Armstrong himself.
Elijah (WMS)
In this picture, I see a group of people crowding around a device. I believe this takes place during WWII, and I think that the device will allow them to talk to their loved ones.
Abby (WMS)
I believe that the men and women are coming together to view the moon landing on the televisions in a shop. One man in the front is holding a magazine that talks about how people are trying to get to the moon in the US. The people are very focused and intrigued by this event by the looks on their faces. I'm guessing this photo takes place in 1969, because that's when the moon landing was, and it's in all black and white.
Christopher Malidore (JCMS)
The people look like their watching a news report from a TV store. It looks urgent because everyone is staring at it. Everyone's faces looks concerned as if something had happened.
Chloe (WMS)
I think that these 20 or so individuals are going to a newspaper office trying to voice their opinions over the moon landing being fake. I believe this because there is a man holding a news pamphlet saying the U.S has a flag on the moon. My caption would be... "20 or so individuals are trying to voice their opinions about the moon landing being fake."
Noah (Jacksonville NC)
i think they are standing outside a bank waiting for the owner to come out with their money
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Noah thanks for sharing. What do you see that makes you say that these individuals are outside a bank?
William (WMS)
I think that they might be watching a presentation on the Apolo 13 mission. Because of the man in the front holding a brochure for it.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@William is wondering if this is an image about the Apollo 13 mission, which was a failed attempt to reach the moon in 1970. What do you see in the leaflet that makes you say that?
Chloe (WMS)
@William I agree with that!
Stardust (Jacksonville)
People watching the moon landing
Michel (IL)
I Think they’re watching something interesting , that could be clothes , furniture etc or a brain new stuff and they’re attentive.
jes (sms)
They are all looking at something and really focused on it. Itś a big crowd of people and it might be art, tv, or technology. They are really focused on it.
Abdalrahman (Lombard, IL)
I see a lot of people standing in the front of a store and surprised by the price of something expensive and they are reading something behind the glass.
Nataly Fúnez (Lombard, Illinois)
I can see that these people are watching the television that is on the right side, it is seen that they are impressed, I think they are impressed, I think it is in 1960-1970 because the middle man has a brochure about the first trip to the Moon is probably in 1969 when it was the first trip to the moon. What catches my attention is the lady in the hat because, how is she holding the hat?
Digraj (New Jersey)
I believe that in this picture, the people who have troubled faces are just hearing about the news of the Pearl Harbor bombing in Hawaii. This is because the clothes that the people are wearing seem to be around the period of the 1940's and 1950's. In addition, all of them have troubled expressions indicating that they have watched something that is either tragic or puzzling. Moreover, the sign pointing towards the black box says "turn sign on or off". This indicate that they are watching television or the news.
Zachary Y (SKHS)
In this picture I see a group of people (mostly men) gathered around a window. I think they are gathered around to watch the Apollo 13 mission. I say this because of the magazine the old man has in his hand.
Colleen AOSE (Academy of St. Elizabeth)
@Zachary Y Hi! I agree with you that they are watching something space related because the man in the photo has a newspaper that talks about the moon landing. It is interesting that you noticed most of the people in the photo were men, I didn't notice that.
Joanna B. (SKHS)
It appears that they are all looking/examining something that they all find interesting or odd due to the expressions on their faces. The older man in the front wearing the suit and glasses is holding what looks like a brochure from U.S NEWS that states a flag has been placed on the moon. I believe this photo was taken in 1969 because this is the year the U.S landed on the moon. The fact that this photo is in black in white also adds to my assumption that this photo is older.
francis (IL)
I Think this people are waiting for something to release it could be anything a product, an historical moment etc, also I think this picture was taken by the early 70s by how the people are dressed and the picture is in black & white.
Joanna B. (SKHS)
@francis Agreed. I think that the fact that the picture is in black and white is a big factor in the date and time the picture was taken. I'm thinking late 60's or early 70's as well.
elijah (sms)
they are watching the Apollo 11 fly up to space because in the old days alt of people didn't have television so they would go to stores and watch live events. The reason I think that it was Apollo 11 is because there was a ton of people watching one thing and that only happens when there was a huge event going on. As you can see all their eyes are following the same thing.
Damon F. (SKHS)
I believe that the people in this photo are looking through the window of a television store and watching a news update, which I believe to be a rocket taking off. I believe that to be the case because of the older woman that is on her phone could be calling someone to see if they are seeing what she is seeing. All of them also seem to have concerned or worried looks on their faces.
Tristan (PA)
This picture is taking place in a previous time period. I know this because its in black and white also there is also a box TV. The picture also shows that the people are watching TV. The people look interested in what their watching. The people in the picture look like they are discussed or disturbed in what they are watching. Whatever they are watching seems to be attracting more and more people because there are people in the back that can barely see. Based on the evidence it seems that the news is on and they just announced something bad that just happened in the country.
Connor M. (SKHS)
In the picture, it looks like that the group of people are looking at a television for some sort of important news. I can tell because all the people look worried or shocked as if something big just happened. Also, on the newspaper that the guy is holding, it says "A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON" so that leads me to believe that they are broadcasting the moon-landing. There is a guy on the phone and he's probably talking about the moon-landing to his family or something.
Andrew B (SKHS)
What is going on in this picture is there is a lot of people looking through a window. What i see that makes me say that is that there are many people surrounding a window trying to see what is inside and it looks like they are all dressed in suits and have nice cloths on so im thinking that they work together and something happen inside and they all had to evacuate the room and they are looking inside on what happen. Something i can find by looking at the details is that this was around 1969 because the person in the front has a newspaper hat says "A USA flag on the moon"
Damien W (SKHS)
There is a bunch of people in a crowd looking through what seems to be a store window. They all have a confused, worried look; or they could be interested. It's in the US and based on the style of clothing, it looks like it could be around the time of the moon landing attempts. Everyone might be looking into a window to watch a TV at the launches. The magazine in the hands of one of the front men speaks of the launch as well.
Annabelle N (SKHS)
Based on the black and white coloring in this photo I would make the assumption that it's pretty old. It is obviously a large group of people standing in front of a window watching or looking at something my guess is a TV. I think this because they all seem very invested in it and they used to have televisions for the public to watch in windows in the city. I also notice that the man in the front is holding a newspaper that shows information of the moon landing and of the US flag on the moon, this being a pretty big deal back then it could be what they are watching on the television
Justyne N (SKHS)
In this picture there are people standing in front of a TV place watching a man land on the moon. the reason i say that is because the old man in the front has an article that is titled "U.S. NEWS: A U.S. FLAG ON THE MOON." I also see that the picture is in black and white which caused me to think this picture is from a while ago. Everyone is also very intensly looking because it is interesting.
Justin (SKHS)
@Justyne N i agree that they are watching something
Varian F (SKHS)
this is most likely a broadcast about the us on the moon first based of the pamphlet that the man in suit with glasses is holding it reads "a u.s. flag on the moon" either this is before or after the moon landing.
Noah T (SKHS)
It looks like this picture took place in an older time like the '50s or early '60s, I see many people gathered at a window looking at something a lot of them look confused and some look interested, My guess is that there looking at the moon landing because of the newspaper the man's holding reads "A U.S flag on the moon".
Marielle M. (skhs)
In the image people are standing outside of a glass window looking into it possibly watching a TV for news they have all been waiting for. Since the image is black and white and based on what they are wearing, it seems to be an old picture. I say it looks like they are watching a TV through the glass window because in the reflection of the window you can see a TV in the bottom right of the image. They could possibly be waiting to hear news about NASA because the man in the front is holding news about the US flag on the moon and they all look kind of curious to find out what was going on.
L.J.F (warminster)
Previous time period and my reasoning is they are wearing nicer clothes. The box tv is another thing that makes it seem like a previous time period. People are concerned with what is on the tv. The newspaper has a moon landing topic. This takes place in 1970 because all the evidence leads to this time.
Samantha.N. (SKHS)
As we can see this takes place in a town or a city in the USA.People are gathered around a window most likely watching TVs. The TVs are broadcasting the moon landing
Lukaus P. (SKHS)
I think in this photo these people are watching the news threw a window and it looks like there in the 70s
susan (New Hampshire)
they are waiting for there turn to vote for president because thats what i think
Audrey G (SKHS)
I believe after observing the image that this photo was taken a long time ago; probably the 1960's based on it being black and white and the type of apparel being worn by the people in the photograph. I also noticed the man holing a news article able the moon landing. This leads me to believe that the people standing outside, looking through the window are possibly watching the moon landing on tv. They could also be watching some other significant event taking place.
Nick (PA)
This is from a previous time period I know this because of the way they are dressed. I know this because it looks like there is a box tv. The people appear to be interested in the tv and something important is happening. I think something bad happened because of the looks on their faces. We know their watching tv because we can look at the reflection in the glass. Based on the evidence this picture takes place in the ’70s and something bad happened.
Robbie McGlynn (Pennsylvania)
The picture is taking place in a previous time period. I know these because it's in black and white and how the people are dressed, also the tv is a box tv and they don't really sell those anymore. It appears that the are watching something interesting because one of the adults is listing on a radio and watching the box tv. Another way this could be interesting because there's a lot of people and a girl has an open mouth and her hand is raised. I believe that this took place in the middle of the day and in 1970 because it looks like it and seems like it. The people are receiving bad news because there all gather up.
Kayla (SMS)
It look like they are look at a tv through glass in the store so they can watch what is on the tv in the store. It looks like what is on the tv the news and they are changing to see what happened somewhere in city that they live in. There are these people who have newspapers in their hands that look like a sale. I think they are changing to get something new that is in the store or they are changing to hear something on the news. In the store that is going on or they are news reporters that are changing to see something.
kyra (sms)
Everybody standing outside men, woman, and probably children are staring in the same direction. I say that is because everybody is in one spot and they have their eyes on that one thing they just look so fascinated with that object.
Mckenzi (SMS)
I think there is something going on in this picture because people are standing around. It looks like a crowd of people in one place at one time and I think it is a funeral because of the clothes they are wearing and their facial expressions.
Caleb (sms)
I think that these people are here for Black Friday because all prices are lowered and they are to excited to buy cheaper items. And the reason I think this is because there is a lot of people lined up and are looking at the cheaper items.
Anne .A. (SKHS)
the people in this photo look like they are either waiting for the store to open up, like maybe there's a sale of some sort or a new product, or they are admiring something through the glass, maybe there are televisions in the window, like how they used to be. it seems like it was a little while ago because the people are dressed very old fashion or more professional. one guy in the front is holding a magazine with what looks like astronauts.
Heather S. (SKHS)
This picture looks like important news. This photo looks like it was from 1969 due to the newspaper a man is holding talks about landing on the moon. In the photo and older lady seems to have a worried or curious face along with all the other adults in the picture. They all seem to be staring in the direction of the TV which is in a store. In the background there seems to be a building and the numbers 63. The lady in the front has a hat with ribbon wrapped around it.
susan (New Hampshire)
people are looking at a flip phone wondering what it is what makes me say that is I see a flip phone on the glass.
Cori (PA)
This is from a previous time period. I know this because they are watching tv and they didn’t have electronics back then. I noticed that they don’t have phones. I think they could be watching the news and something very exciting might have happened. I noticed they seem very interested in what they are watching. They could be watching the NASA moon landing. I think that because I noticed the arrows on the window said something about the moon.
Madison (sms)
I think it is one of those windows with tvs inside and they are looking at the news or some kind of important information. I think this because everyone's gathering around the window and I see a reflection of a tv.
gabrielle (sms)
It looks like they're looking at tvs through the glass and looking at something very important like the news because a man is holding a news paper stating something about the news. I also think they can be watching somebody landing on the moon for the first time because they're so amazed.
Christenae (SHKS)
I'm not really sure whats going on in this picture. I can see that the picture is in black and white. I see a kinda big group of men and women, dressed in suit and ties and dresses. From that i can infer that the picture was taken around the 60's maybe. They all appear to be looking at something through the window from the outside. One of the men has what appears to be a news paper. Another man is holding something up to his ear. Behind the group of people i see a building that looks like it may be court or possibly a capital building. On the window i see paper arrows pointing to something that is hanging on the window, not sure what it is or could be.
Jeffrey (SMS)
I think they are at a museum and some thing is being put on display. I think this because they are standing on the outside and some of the people look like there is news reporters.
Cm (PA)
The previous time period I know this because of the Tv and the way they’re dressed the people seem to look interested but they also looked shocked so they might be watching the news this could have happened in the ’70s
susan (New Hampshire)
They are watching a film of what people want to happen in the future or telling people this is whats going to happen in the future. I think this because they are looking inside a glass container. It looks like they are in Mass of 1800's or 1900's.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@susan thanks for sharing. To clarify, do you think this group is in the U.S. state of Massachusetts in the 1800s or 1900s? If so can you tell us a bit more about what you see that makes you say that?
Caleb S. (SKHS)
In this phpto, i think a large group of people are watching the moon landing happen through a window at a store. I say this because of the man holding the newspaper about the moon landing, the amount of people there, and the reflection off the glass that shows very faintly space.
Aubrey Z (SKHS)
@Caleb S. I agree with this, although it does not have very much detail I still agree with what you said.
Daniel (IL)
I see people standing in front of a glass window and it seems they are watching something inside, maybe a television. I also think it was something from a while ago because it is black and white. Something else I think is that it has to do with NASA because a man holds a newspaper that talks about the moon. Therefore, it could be people working something of NASA.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Daniel is wondering if this image has anything to do with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which is a U.S. organization responsible for space travel. What more can we find?
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
I appreciate that contributors are trying to understand how people in this photograph are feeling by reading their facial expressions and body language. Contributors have shared that they think people in this image look: —Fascinated —Shocked —In awe —Sad —Confused —Serious Based on what you see, how do you think they feel? If you were witnessing an historical event, how might you respond?
FM (Lombard, Illinois)
There are so many people standing in front of the glass window and people are looking at the window and they look very confused and worried. There is an old lady and she is holding the cap also there is the old man and he is holding the book. In glass there is written down 6 and 3. In glass there is the 4 arrow. Inside the glass maybe the people’s are looking at the TV. 🙂
Tiana K (SKHS)
in this picture it looks like these people are staring maybe at a screen, the screen may be talking about the moon because the man is holding a news paper that has something to do with the moon. This picture looks new but meant to be old because of the black and white.
Ian (Stewart Middle School)
What I think what is happening in this picture is that they are watching the NASA prepare for the trip to the moon since I see a man holding a newspaper that is talking about the moon.
Averi-Jade M (SKHS)
@Ian I agree with what you are saying even tho you did not add very much detail.
jonathon d (skhs)
this is the moon landing if you look you'll see there is a box in the corner of the screen and there is a man in the suit and glasses holding a paper that says U.S. news and world report a U.S. flag on the moon and everyone is looking at it other things i can see is there is a black object on the glass with arrows pointing to it
Daoud (IL)
I see people standing in front of a glass They watch for a T.V
jake zaddyyyyy (warminster)
28 October 2019 I know this because its black and white and they dress different then us now the pic hand a old box tv in it and everyone is looking at the same thing and they all look shocked and focused on the tv i think it's about some important news because the people looking at the tv look really focused, it could be the death of JFK or MLK or the moon landing.
Valentina (Illinois)
I think that maybe you are watching something very interesting behind the glass, for example, new technology or maybe there is a TV with some news or some game.
Brooklyn W. (SKHS)
These people might be outside of a store that sell TVs watching the moon landing based on the newspaper and the expression on these peoples faces.
AD (Lombard Illinois)
I see people standing behind a glass and they are looking some type of entretened things. There are some sticky notes in the glass and one thing that it doesn’t look really good in the picture. Maybe they are looking for some kind of job.
David Flores 🤠🤠 (Il)
maybe you are waiting to go to work, since they look well dressed for it and I guess they just had their rest that's why they are going back 🤠
braxten ritchie (s)
it looks like the picture was taken a long time a and she s using a cell phone or smething like dat.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
We have collected lots of interesting possibilities for could be going on in this image. Ideas include that the crowd is looking at/watching: —the moon landing —a broadcast about an impending storm —art —the unveiling of new technology —a celebratory event like an anniversary Other ideas?
Varian F (SKHS)
@VTS Moderator all of your points are valid maybe judging by the pamphlet in he mans hand with the "u.s. news" heading on it I believe that this is possibly the moon landing or right after it i have no other ideas on what else this could be.
Damien W (SKHS)
@VTS Moderator The moon landing, and storm broadcasting are two good possibilities. Everyone in the photo seems to be a business person, instead of a labor based job, and that could help give something about the time on when it was taken. I feel as if the moon landing is the best possibility
Damon F. (SKHS)
@VTS Moderator I believe that your first 2 guesses listed are the most likely of the 5 you stated due to the fact that the setting being the side of a street makes it highly unlikely they would be displaying artwork there. It could potentially be the unveiling of new technology, however the setting also does not seem quite right for this because that would more likely be conducted in a building and not on the side of a busy road. The setting is also very wrong as is their expressions if they were at a celebratory event.
Emma Blas (JCMS)
I see people standing in front of a glass window and it looks like they are looking at something inside, maybe a TV. I also think that it was something from a while ago because it is in black and white. Something else that I think is that it has to do with NASA because a man is holding a newspaper that is talking about the moon. So it could possibly be people watching the landing on the TV.
Heather S. (SKHS)
@Emma Blas we can believe they are looking at a TV due to the reflection in the window. I also agree that it could have to do with NASA because the man is holding a paper talking about the moon meaning that this photo was around 1969.
Noah T (SKHS)
@Emma Blas I 100% agree with you because after I saw the article title in the newspaper it made it really obvious on what they were looking at.on the TV.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
Many of us have come to the conclusion that this large crowd has gathered to watch an important historical moment. Evidence has been provided suggesting this is an older image--e.g. it's black and white; clothing/fashion is different from what we wear today. What additional evidence can we find to suggest this image doesn't reflect contemporary life?
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
I appreciate that contributors are replying to each other to extend the conversation! If you haven’t yet, read what others have shared and consider responding to at least one in a thoughtful and productive way. You could: --Ask a clarifying question if you are curious or confused by something they shared. --Build on their argument by providing additional proof from the image and/or prior knowledge. --Disagree respectfully by offering an alternative interpretation and evidence to support it.
Zyir Davis (JCMS)
What i think is going on is that they are watching TV to get ready for a storm. What makes me say this is that People are huddled around looking at something. what i can also find is that the people are waiting for something.
Connor M. (SKHS)
@Zyir Davis I disagree, the people are huddled around looking at a TV, I believe that the only person here that looks worried is the elderly woman, and maybe the guy to the right of her. If they were preparing for a storm then they would be at home preparing
Andrew B (SKHS)
@Zyir Davis i agree with your statement that they are watching something and maybe getting ready for a storm.i agree with that because they are all surrounding a little spot behind the window when they could spread out but they are al bunched up around the same area.
Brooklyn W. (SKHS)
@Zyir Davis If they are getting ready for a storm why are outside and not inside preparing. Also I believe that most of there expressions are to calm to be waiting for a storm.
Juliana H. (JCMS)
I think that there was something like a special event or an anniversary of something that was probably important to people.
Samantha.N. (SKHS)
@Juliana H. I believe you are correct because if we look at the older gentlemen in the front. He's holding a book about a U.S. flag on the moon
Lukaus P. (SKHS)
@Juliana H. I think you could be right but back then people would watch the news on the side of the street cause some building would just have TVs in them with the news on or events
samantha (JCMS)
Its may be a television ,when the television first came out and not every body had one. so the tv in the on the other side of the glass and there is a speaker so they can hear the television. also there watching the news cause there facial expressions are serious
Zachary Y (SKHS)
@samantha Oh, I didn't think about that at the time of writing mine.
Christenae (SHKS)
@samantha I thought of that as well.
Marielle M. (skhs)
@samantha I thought the same thing but maybe they were watching news about a moon landing because the man in the front is holding news about a US flag on the moon.
Huong (JCMS)
i think they look at the TV because i see they hold the newspaper , and that make me think that maybe at that time they don't have money to buy something like technology at that time like phone or TV.
santino h (jcms)
this picture is a thing on the TV and it is in a store front and watching some on the TV it is probably something with the moon that is what the newspaper says "flag on moon"
jonathon d (skhs)
@santino h this seems like it would be correct due to the fact that of the paper and the TV
Meadowlane Magic (Kitchener, Ontario)
I SEE a newspaper, people looking confused,or sad. I SEE a man pointing at a women ! I SEE old people at a bank in the background. I THINK there looking in a store, and the store is closed, there is a intercom on the window there in the train station,or a silent auction. I WONDER what in the world there watching. I WONDER what is happening is this unnecessary,or if there losing there jobs!
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Meadowlane Magic thank you for using the See/Think/Wonder thinking routine to try to make sense of this image. It's a great routine anyone can use to try to make sense of something unfamiliar or new. Can you share where in the image you see a man pointing at a woman? Can you speak a bit more to what you see that makes you wonder if people are losing their jobs?
Name (required) (Location (required)
They stare in aww as the first computer store opened up they are excited to go in and buy one
Josiah B (Jacksonville Commons Middle)
Its probably around the time Neil Armstrong landed on the moon since the news paper says "A U.S flag found on the moon" as they stand around fascinated and shocked.
Chloe (Nc)
it looks like theirs people crowding a window and the man has a newspaper and the newspaper has something about the moon
kompassion (jacksonville nc)
i think they are looking at a peice of art or the news on a tv
Riley (Jacksonville NC)
I think the people are looking at a phone or some new thing. That is why the elderly have there mouths gaping. I think this because there i a rectangle that looks like a phone.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Fiene and Berend from The Netherlands pointed out that the arrow second from the left seems to read ‘turn sound on and off’ and therefore the black rectangle underneath that arrow a remote control. It’s a bit easier to see what those arrows say when you click on the ‘larger size’ hyperlink under the photo. What more can we find?
Nick Fote (WMS)
in this picture I see many people standing outside a store window, seeing that a paper says "us flag' I think they may be watching a stream live of the US planting the flag on the moon. I also see people are looking closely so they may be trying to watch it and see every detail
arianna horne (wms)
In this picture, I see that there are mainly men in this picture. But if you look closely, one of the men's newspaper says "A U.S flag on the Moon" that led me to think that it has something to do with astronauts. I think that they are watching Neil Armstrong land on the moon and put the first American flag on the moon.
Brynn (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
In this picture taking place multiple years ago, all of these people, men and women, are watching something through a window. The picture is in black and white, and everyone is dressed in old fashioned clothing. The people are of all ages suggesting that this is a very important event in history, perhaps like the moon landing that took place appearing around this time. Another reason I believe this is happening when the first man landed on the moon is because of the news paper on man is holding when you look closely it appears to be astronauts. From what I have read and heard this event was big in history so it explains the big crowd.
Audrey G (SKHS)
@Brynn I agree, since the people's ages all very , it does seem that some important historical event is taking place and they're watching.
Ellie M. (Watts Middle School)
I think that this picture is from the 60's 0r '70s. I think that these people are looking through a glass window, like a store window. During this time period, not many people had t.v.s, so a way you could see them was by looking through the store window.
Madison (WMS)
I believe that in this picture there is something major on display or something political going on behind the glass. I think this because there are many people gathered around this glass wall so there has to be a reason. With the black and white photo, you can tell it is older and if you look closely you can see in a news article there is one about the moon landing so they wouldn't have phones so this is the only way to share.
Alyssa (WMS)
In this picture it is black and white with a bunch of people. There are more men than women. They seem to be looking through a glass window and they seem concerened. I wonder why it's black and white, and why it's mostly men. I wonder why they're looking through the window, I wonder what's happening. I think this picture might take place in the 60s. I think they're outdoors. I think they might know each other. I think there might be big news in their town happening.
AJ Miller (WMS)
these people are looking into a store during the mid-1900s and looking at a crime scene of a robbery where a cop or store worker was killed in the process. this is shown by the expressions of the people
Jong-won lee (WMS)
In this picture people in 1940 because there were not that many tv in us so people gathered.
James Wood (Wats)
In this picture, there seems to be multiple people watching something unfold. It seems to be from the 60's or lower maybe when they landed on the moon.
Brayden (WMS)
A group of people are gathered at a glass storefront to watch something they appear to be looking at something in the building very seriously.
Aniya (ohio)
I feel that they are meeting an astronaut for a meet and greet because of the newspaper in the mans hand
Justyne N (SKHS)
@Aniya i dont think that is what is happening.
Jay KNipfer (Watts)
I think that these people are watching the t.v.'s that are talking about the astronauts landing on the moon and were just on their way to work and noticed.
jaylyn B (watts middle school)
In the picture, it looks like there is a tv in the glass window and people are watching it. They are probably looking at the astronauts landing on the moon.
lily juarez (wms)
In this picture, the newspaper says "A U.S. flag on the moon." Meaning that this picture is from 1969. The women in the middle seemed to be shocked. They might be watching Neil Armstrong land on the moon.
Hayden F (LCMS)
These people are watching a man land on the moon. I know this because the man wearing the suit jacket standing in front of the window is holding a brochure that reads “a U.S flag on the moon. In addition, the woman next to the man in the suit jacket is very wide-eyed and has a surprised look on her face. There are several people holding radios as well as a speaker on the outside of the window so they can hear what is happening. This event is taking place during the 1960s. I know this because of the hairstyles and clothing of the people attending the event seem much older. This photo is set in a city. I know this because many people are gathered around a storefront window. In addition, there are buildings in the background, and the people in the city indicate that they are in a city because of their clothes. The attire they wear are of high quality, and city people are more likely to own these clothes. Based on the evidence these people have gathered at a storefront window in a city to watch the first man land on the moon in Us history.
Sonali aose (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@Hayden F I agree! The newspaper was very helpful! I agree the style was very 60s!
Annabelle N (SKHS)
@Hayden F I definitely agree that they are watching something to do with the moon landing and it is placed sometime in the 60's because that's when the moon landings took place, and the style can give us more evidence to that assumption. I also agree that it was in the city.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Emma AOSE has noticed that while a large group has gathered, it's fairly homogenous, e.g. mostly men, with the exception of a couple of women. What more can you find?
Sonali aose (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
There is a group of people staring directly in front of them. There is glass blocking them. It looks like a picture from the 1960s because the picture is black and white and the fashion is very 60s. Everyone is very focused and looks like they are staring at a tv. I think that they are watching the moon landing because that was very televised and everyone watched it. I remember that people all gathered around tvs and watched the landing all around America. Also a man holding a newspaper has astronuts on it.
EmilyAOSE (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
In this picture there appears to be a crowd of people standing behind a glass window. They all seem to be looking at something quite seriously. The women in the middle seems to be looking astonished. They are all wearing quite outdated clothing and are dressed rather fancy compared to modern day attire, this leads me to believe that this was taken in the late 60s. The man in the front to the right is holding a newspaper and the headline says "A U.S. flag on the moon." The group might be watching the moon landing or a report on it on TV screens in a display of some sort. There is also a box in the screen with arrows pointing to it, this could be a button.
Sonali aose (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@EmilyAOSE I agree the people staring look very starstruck! I also agree that they are watching the moon landing!
Mr. C's 8th grade class (Bloomington mn)
Something bad is happening on TV
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Mr. C's 8th grade class hello and thanks for joining us! Can your class expound a bit on what it sees that makes it think something bad is happening on TV? What evidence in the image can your students find to support that interpretation? Do some students have a different opinion, and if so can they find and describe counter-evidence?
Photo class Villa Maria College (Buffalo, NY)
We think this is taken in the late 60s probably 1969 during the moon landing or right after since the man is holding the paper announcing that. Black and white photo. There is a TV is reflected through the window so we think they are watching coverage of the moon landing. Attached to the window maybe is a remote for the TV? (thing with arrows pointing to it) Looks like they are in a city (NY or Chicago) based on the background buildings. The woman holding the hat-its weird how she is holding the hat-it is pressed up against the window?
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Photo class Villa Maria College thank you for sharing! For you, evidence like the "U.S. News and World Report" headline "A U.S. Flag on the Moon" and that this image is black and white suggests it was taken after the U.S. moon landing in 1969. Sounds like the class is puzzling over where this image was taken, as well as some of the details--What are those arrows pointing to? How is that hat not falling to the ground? Is there anything more about this image you would like to share, based on what you have learned in your photo class?
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
Thanks to our contributors who are pointing out some finer details in this image. Several students have pointed our attention to the bottom right quadrant where we see a gentleman who is wearing glasses holding a “U.S. News and World Report” publication. Just to the right of that man’s hands, we see a reflection in the window of what appears to be a large television screen and its dials. What more can we find?
Fiene and Berend (Rijswijk, The Netherlands)
In the picture, we see a group of people watching what seems to be a tv behind a window. There are stickers on the window which seem to say "Turn sound on and off". In front there's a man that is holding a magazine that says " A U.S. Flag on the moon". Since they're watching so intently we're guessing they're watching the Moon landing.
Joshua (jcms)
They are watching something devestating on the television
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Joshua what do you see that makes you say that what the spectators are watching is destructive or tragic?
Brynn (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@Joshua I Also think that they are watching television, but why do you think that it's something devastating?
MaKayla (Jacksonville commons)
I believe that something strange or bad is going on through the window that all the people are looking through. I think this because people are making weird facials.
Brynn (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@MaKayla I agree that something strange is going on, but I just think the people are anxious about what is going to happen, not that something bad is happening. What do you think the newspaper is saying?
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
Good morning everyone! I'm looking forward to exploring this image with you! What's going on in this picture?
Alira (JCMS)
It looks like the group of people are looking at something behind the wall of glass. Maybe a store? Or one of those "viewing-station"-type things? There is a TV, but it doesn't look like it's on. Maybe it's a new model of a TV? Or maybe its something they're looking at on the TV that's the reason for why they have the strange looks on their faces.
xavier starjak (jcms)
in this picture i see a group of people trying to see something through a glass wall. the picture doesn't show it. i also see a reflection of a television you can also see a man holding a newspaper of the about the news of the U.S.. so what i think they are doing is trying to watch or see something through a wall that is really exciting
Katie A (academy of saint Elizabeth)
This picture looks like it was taken in the 60's based on the fashion but also the newspaper a man is holding that says, "A U.S Flag on the Moon". I know the Moon landing occurred in 1969, which proves that this picture is taken in the 60's. I notice also that there is something on the glass window of a build with arrows pointing to it, I have a feeling maybe it is a picture from the moon landing as it looks like a piece of film with a little peep hole over it, big enough for an eye. So I think there are Crowds around this store maybe looking at tv's which are re-playing the moon landing, and also to look at the picture of the moon landing.
Sonali aose (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@Katie A I agree! I think they are watching the moon landing based on their expressions and the newspaper!
Gavyn N (JCMS)
I think a store s about to open because people are standing outside a glass wall which stores usually have so you can browse while you stroll by.
JOJO (JCMS)
they are waiting for something or they are looking at something
Kendrick Pollock (JCMS)
They are looking at something devastating on television.
Emma AOSE (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@Kendrick Pollock How do you know it's devastating? The people in the image look kind of bored rather than devastated. What makes you think that it's devastation?
Mrs. G 4th grade (NJ)
We notice that this group of people happen to be staring at something behind a glass wall. We notice there are arrows pointing at something. We think they may be watching something happening on a television, it could be a sporting event, or a big news event. We think they are somewhere in a big city in the US because the man is holding a newspaper that says US News.
VTS Moderator (Washington, DC)
@Mrs. G 4th grade hello and thanks for contributing! Your class has noticed some of the mysteries of this image (e.g. the four arrows on the glass), as well as is thinking about the story that this image is telling. You are also hypothesizing about the setting of this scene. For your students, the publication being held is evidence that this might be taking place in a city. What more can you find?

In the picture it looks like they are looking at at box/ a podium and there is a poster that says the first TV and they are in line for the new tv. How I can predict that is cause at the old lady there are arrows pointing at a little box which could be a countdown for the new item to be released.

My prediction is that they are watching the moon landing. One man is holding a pamphlet talking about the landing and the people's clothes seem to be from the 60s.

@Oscar Barton I agree I think because they all look so worried may mean that they are watching the moon landing, but the moon landing was live, in real time, and the man is holding a newspaper which says how the astronauts got to the moon safely already, so I think they are watching a re-play of it.

@Katie A thanks for adding to @Oscar Barton's interpretation and evidence and for giving us more to think about.

In this picture, I see a group of people standing in front of a glass wall. They are all staring at something, but the picture doesn't show it. In the reflection of the wall, you can see a television screen. In another man's hands, you can see he is holding a pamphlet that talks about the moon landing. So, this picture must have been taken around July 1969. Using this information, I believe that they are watching the recording of when the spaceship took off. They are all in awe, because this is unlike anything they have ever seen before.

I think the people are looking at something on a TV or a computer screen. The people look confused yet intrigued on what's on the screen so maybe it's a new discovery of some sort. I think this is early in the morning because everyone watching all the men are is business suits. One of the men are holding a newspaper about a U.S. flag landing on the moon so maybe they are watching the clip of the flag going to the moon.

In this picture the people standing in front of the window are watching something about a flag on the moon on a tv, because you can see the reflection of the tv and the guy is holding a newspaper about putting the flag on the moon.
