Superheroes have such a large impact on children, especially young girls. Watching these movies and seeing strong and powerful women just as into the battle as men, is such a huge inspiration. It shows these young girls that they are strong, and that they can make a difference in this world if they really want to. By seeing independent female role models on the big screen, these movies are shaping the next generation of strong women in our world.

I grew up in a small town, we didn't have much to do so we would always watch movies. One day we discovered "superheros" at the age of 9 it was honestly the best i mean like we all knew about Batman, Superman, Ironman, we knew about them all but it wasn't until the day i got invited to my friends birthday party......the theme was Superheros. I remember the party very vividly, I dressed up as Cat women. This party brought us closer then what we already were we finally had something other then movies, we got to be the "Superheros". So when i think of those fictional characters going around saving the day I always think about the day superheros saved me and my friends.
Dannon Sanders (California)
Fictional heroes are important to society because they provide role models for young people and show them the potential and inner power that they all possess. There are plenty of heroes on the big screen that teenagers can relate to, whether Marvel, DC, comics or the big screen that allow them to apply the stories of heroes to their own life. Teens aspire to be the hero, and strive to make the right decisions. They aren't limited by self doubt, because they have seen examples of their heroes overcoming those same doubts and obstacles. The best example of this would be the story of Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man. He was able to show teenagers the possibility of changing oneself and making the right decisions through his story and actions. If I had a super power, I would want those of Doctor Strange. His abilities are pretty much endless and always creative and interesting.
Kyra Schwagerl (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
This hero is apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is in comic books. My favorite superhero wasn't a superhero in the beginning. He was a regular kid from Brooklyn who wanted to serve his country but was unable to do so because he did not meet the requirements of a soldier. This hero was eventually enlisted into a program where soldiers were going to be turned into super-soldiers. This superhero is Captain America. Captain America is a man out of time; after he was frozen for almost 70 years. Captain America never gave up on his friends and always stood up for what he believed in. Standing up for what you believe in and never giving up or second-guessing your friends are some of the best traits you can have. However, before the serum Captain America had all these qualities, so it's not Captain America that inspires me. The true hero is Steve Rogers, the man behind the serum.
Reese Sanderson (Julia R. Masterman)
Superheroes don't have a huge impact on my life. Yes, I love watching the Marvel movies, and those are superheroes, but that is for entertainment and doesn't really touch into my personal life. You may be wondering if I cried when Tony Stark died, when Natasha fell of the cliff, or when Peter Parker turned into dust. The answer is yes. I cry because when I watch these movies it is like I am entering a whole new universe, yet it feels like I lived there for years. Watching them die is like watching someone dear to you die. It is mind-blowing to me how I can have felt so strongly about something made up. But, as soon as I leave the theater and the movie ends, I feel the same as I did before. I am sad that the characters died but I don't feel broken like I did when I watched the movie. So, I have mixed feelings about how much superheroes impact me. If I had to choose one superpower to have, then I would choose the ability to shapeshift.
Ana Sorrentino (J.R Masterman)
Although I don't look up to superheroes as role models they have inspired me through comic books and movies, they've showed me that you need to face things head on and that you can never do anything alone, they are resilient, strong and determined. If I were to have a power it would be teleportation
Maddox Rosser (J.R. Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
Ever since I was a little kid, I have loved superheros and comics. Superheros inspired me in every which way and led me to who I am now. Superman, for an example, is a resilient man with the strength of a monster. He feared nothing and I wanted to be like him. Another hero would be The Flash. He mad me want to get faster and faster like him. If I were to choose a power, it would be teleportation.
August Russell (J.R. Masterman School)
I personally don't think comics or superheroes have any effect on my life but their ideals do. For instance, even though swinging from webs doest help me in life Siderman's famous "with great power comes great responsibility" can help many people around the world every day.
Alexander Stewart (Classical HS, Providence, RI)
To me, superheroes are nothing more than a form of entertainment. If I had a superpower, it would be the ability to manipulate energy, forces, and space-time.
Giselangel (Providence, RI)
Fictional superheroes have a special place in my heart. Ever since I was a little girl, I was always amused and entertained by superheroes. Many girls my age enjoyed playing with dolls when they were younger but I enjoyed watching all sorts of superhero movies/shows. My favorite superhero is The Flash because I admire his bravery and commitment to helping his friends/family in Star City. He's a speedster so he's able to save citizens from disastrous situations in a matter of seconds. However, he has made a couple mistakes. The Flash has traveled through time and through different dimensions that have altered the timeline but he always learns from his mistakes. I love The Flash so much because he shows me that I can be brave to do and be who I want to be and take risks even though it may cause me to make mistakes because I will learn from them.
Ayo Alawode (Providence)
For me superheroes have a lot of meaning in my daily. Whenever I want to feel inspired to do something I look to superhuman figures as something to want to be like. If I ever want to be buff I think of All might if I ever want to feel like studying I think of Spider-Man (Respect the hyphen). If I had to chose a power I would chose the ability to manipulate luck because then you could just get lucky in everything.
kery (Providence)
As a teenager who deals with problems with hesitation and doubt, I find myself heavily inspired by Spiderman. He is the definition of the relatable "everyman" superhero. Peter Parker lives his life as a teenager who is always strapped on cash or in the midst of a relationship problem that seems to bite into him harder than the supervillains he's fighting when he dons the suit. I feel like I can relate to him because like Peter Parker, I have money problems, I have to deal with finding work. Being a freelance photographer/cinematographer, I have to take risks with my work to truly blossom. Spiderman is a superhero who takes risks, he has to balance whether to go out and fight crime or take Mary Jane out on a date, both of these decisions have a consequence. I feel that this resonates greatly with me because in real life every decision has a consequence. I can either choose to do my homework tonight or go to an event at school to sharpen my skills in cinema. Do I miss out on honing my skills as well as getting recognized for my work? Or do I do my homework and get the grades I need for my future? It's a tug of war in my mind. Although the stakes for Spiderman's risks seem to be much more high, the essence of risk in his choices is something I can relate to greatly. And If I could have any superpower it would obviously be the powers of a spider, it's the coolest power.
Kemi Odunaike (Classical High School)
Although I had only recently become a fan of superhero franchises such as Marvel and the X-men I would consider the superheroes as an inspiration in my life. There were heroes like Mulan who demonstrated great heroism by spontaneously taking her ailing father's place in the draft for the Chinese military. Heros like Black Panther who brought in much-needed representation for those who are African/ African- American to finally see a superhero that looks like them. But more heroes inspire me that isn't shown on TVs such as the people who help others behind the scenes who don't receive much recognition.
Olivia DeLuca (Classical High School)
When I think of superheroes I often think of the real world heroes. Don't get me wrong I love watching super heroes from Black Panther to Thor, but if you asked me if they have any meaning to me, then the answer would be no. I find inspiration in the hidden hero. When I see a firefighter running into a burning building I watch with admiration. They risk their lives without any superhuman powers. Some heroes include a single mother with three jobs to support her children, someone who stands up for what they believe in or a teacher who lives to inspire and educate the minds of students. One act of kindness is all it takes to make a hero to someone else.
Jeff (Providence)
Fictional superheroes have a ton of meaning in my life. Superheroes create a path way for me to see creativity and how they can become a lesson in life for me. For an example the super hero Spiderman lost his dear Uncle Ben mainly because of an argument they had and Peter Parker (Spiderman) left the house very furious and his uncle went to find him. While Uncle Ben was looking for him he was shot by a burglar and died. Peter parker never was able to make amends with him. I learned that when there is an argument between whoever it is important to make amends and forgive one another because you don't know the next time you will be able to see that person again. That's why superheroes have a great meaning in my life.
Jack Zhou (J.R. Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
I'm not inspired by any heroes as I don't usually have much to do with superheroes and comics. If I were to choose a superpower I'd choose super-speed. With super-speed I would be able to do many things I usually would not. I could go back in time, get to places faster. It'd make my life much easier.
Arianna Andriyevsky (Julia R. Masterman)
I, as well as many of my peers, am very inspired by superheroes. Superheroes provide a safe environment for people and help those in need. I think everyone admires those heroes to some extent, and some even strive to be them. Of course, superpowers are a thing of fiction, but you don’t need powers to be a hero. If I could have a superpower, it would be the power to stop and start time and to be able to move in between those two. I would want that power because it could help me get out of dangerous situations, and help me transport myself to a safer place.
Adah D'Alba (Julia R. Masterman)
If i had to choose a superpower, I woud read minds. I am very insecure and knowing what people think of me would make it better
Jessica Chen (J.R. Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
I am not inspired by any superheroes, but I do enjoy watching movies about them, such as Marvel. If I could choose a superpower, I would love to time travel so I could fix my mistakes and possibly prevent bad events if people choose to listen to me. It has a lot of rules, but I think it would be extremely fascinating. I would also like to have the ability to read minds so I can know what people are thinking about and know if they are talking about me or somebody I know.
Danielle (New York)
If I were to choose any superpower it would have to be the ability to fly. Being able to fly everywhere I went would be amazing. I would fly to Hawaii and London. There would be so many places I would be able to go to without needing to pay for a flight or driving hours upon hours. I just think that flying is a really cool superpower and would be very helpful for me to get one place to another in a very fast amount of time. My next superpower would be invincibility. Anywhere I went at any time I would be able to turn invisible.
Ben R (Burnt Hills HS NY)
I like the movies and comic books, but they do not inspire me much, but if I could have a superpower, I would be telekinesis. I could make myself fly in the air or move anything around if i wanted to. I could make the clouds go away if I wanted the sun, and I could get anything I wanted because no one would be able to stop me. bwahahahahahahaha
Jessica Z (Burnt Hills, NY)
If I was to have any superpower I would chose to be able to fly. I would choose this because it would be an easy way of transportation and would help with me not being late. I would find it so cool to fly because them I could avoid all traffic and go and get things when every I want. There are some cons with being able to fly I would use it responsibly and not take or steal anything but I would use it for good. I would help many people and hope that some honor would come with it.
Ethan B (BHBL High School)
If I could have a super power, it would be to run super fast. It would be easier to get to places without having to sit in a car. Obviously the Flash has this superpower so you could say I am inspired by him. I would never be late to anything.
Sam B (Burnt Hills, New York)
Out of all of the super powers I coyld have, I think I would choose to be able to time travel because I think it would be really cool to be able to go back in time and visit the past. It also would be convenient so that if I ever make a mistake I can go back in time and fix the mistake. If I could time travel I could visit famous events that happened in the past even if I wasn't born yet.
Amelia Landry (Burnt Hills, New York)
Although superheroes don't have a big impact on my life, I do like movies with superheroes in it, and I think it would be really cool to have a superpower. Some superhero movies I like to watch are Marvel movies and the Incredibles. They don't impact me at all, but I think they are entertaining. If I were to have a superpower, I would want to be able to time travel. This would definitely get tricky and there would be a lot of rules to follow, but it would be good so I could change the past, or the future and change mistakes I made, or come up with a "new" invention years before it was created.
Ryan (Burnt Hills)
Fictional superheroes do not inspire me too much. Just because the subject matter is not real it makes it hard for me to be inspired by something that. If I could choose to have super powers I would choose the ability to manipulate time. I would be able to stop time whenever I want and move forward and back in time whenever I would like. This would make life super easy. I would never have to do anything I do not want to because I could just travel through time and skip it. If I wanted to do a good job on lets say, a school project I could stop time and keep working on it until it is perfect and then start time again. It wouldn't even take me any time in real life. I would also be immortal. If I were to be in a scenario where I was close to death I could just travel back in time and relive my life and hopefully change the outcome so I don't die. My life would be awesome.
Emily L (NY)
To preface my answer, I don't watch that much media related to superheroes. But, if I could have any superpower I'd choose the ability to shapeshift. Think of all of the uses related to that. As a hero, you could transform into a bird to fly quickly to catch a villain. You could turn into a bear and maul people. You could technically turn yourself into a wall and topple into a villain. The possibilities are endless with shapeshifting. And you could easily keep your identity a secret by have two completely different forms as a pedestrian and as a hero. Shapeshifting is the best power you could have, in my opinion.
Brynn T. (Burnt HIlls, New York)
If I were to have any superpower it would be invisibility. Not only would you be able to be in the presence of others without them knowing, but you could travel wherever you wanted in the world. Simply because you couldn't be accounted for. It would be super sick because there's no way you could get in trouble for coming in late to a class or event because you'd be invisible.
Eli W (Burnt Hills)
I am a big fan of Superheros in general, maybe it's Iron Man or Captain America, or Batman or the Flash. They definitely inspired me when I was a younger child, but now that I;ve grown up a little more they are just icons of entertainment. If I could have any superpower, it would definitely be telekinesis. With telekinesis I could fly by moving the air around me, or I could stop a bullet just by thinking. I could lift objects that are thousands of pounds and make a perfect half-court swoosh. A lot of superheroes with telekinesis are usually portrayed as conflicted or evil. It is one of the most powerful superpowers, but it would make life better. I would be able to be better at so many things. Imagine what World War II would have been like if there was telekinesis. There are endless possibilities with that power, so I would definitely be my choice. Since literally everything is an object, I would be able to control everything. I might even be able to discover incredible things about the Earth. If I had telekinesis, life would be awesome.
Rhi L. (Burnt Hills)
If any super power could be given to me, I would probably choose to be a jack of all trades. It's an interesting choice, but I feel that it is very underrated. Unlike the Incredibles, this "jack of all trades" power would include being mediocre at everything. Trying a new sport, such as swimming? Number three on the Varsity team, but not bad considering it was my first time in the pool. Finding a cure for cancer? Definitely not easy, but several years later, here it is! Didn't study for a global test second period? Boom, eighty-nine. Took some thinking and it's not a perfect grade but it's pretty good considering there was no preparation.
Caleb C (NY)
If I could have any super power I would be invisible. I could do so much more if I was invisible. I could go anywhere I wanted. Do anything I wanted because nobody would know I was there. I could rob a bank and nobody would find me. I would be able to eavesdrop on everyones conversations and nobody would ever know. I could sneak into places for free. Life would just be so much more fun.
Jake G. (Burnt Hills, New York)
If I had to have any superpower it would be the ability to have superspeed. Kinda like Barry Allen. It would be pretty sick. I'd be so fast you wouldn't even see me. I could do everything faster, my homework, my chores... everything.
Mia Prezioso (New York)
I do not have a favorite superhero, nor do superheroes affect my regular life. However, I wish I had a superpower that would allow me to read people's minds. If I could read people's minds, I would know what they think of me, know their opinions on a specific topic, and how they're feeling. If everyone could read minds maybe relationships would last longer, bonds would be stronger, and friendships would be happier.
Samantha Chase (Burnt Hills, New York)
Superheroes have some meaning to me. They can help me through my everyday life. Captain America sometimes helps, he has such good morals and is just a good person all together so sometimes I think to myself "Would cap. like this?" for me this is super helpful. But I'm a huge fan of Spiderman. The fact that he is a teenager and has super powers is awesome. Also the fact that he can cope with the superhero life and school is a super power within it's self. If I were to have a super power it would be invisibility, because I could hide in plain site. Not that I do that now.
Jillian Konik (Burnt Hills, New York)
I never really followed super heros or comics but if I had to choose I would pick Sharkboy and lavagirl. I never really got inspired by them but they seem pretty cool. one superpower that I would love to have is time travel because I want to know what is happening in the near future.
Madison. (ny)
I don't personally have a favorite superhero. If I could have any superpower it would be to go time machine. I would choose to go back in time because you could fix any mistakes you have made. I would go in the future to prepare myself for what is next so I don't make mistakes that could happen eventually. being a time machine could prepare you and fix you. That's the one superpower I would want to have.
Kim MacNeil (Burnt Hills, New York)
If I could have a super power I would want the ability to read people's mind and invisibility. This has always been an ability I wish was real because I want to see what people think or what they feel. Invisibility has always sounded cool, you can go somewhere and people won't even know your there. Super heros haven't always been a part of my life. But one I do look up to Hulk because he's strong and shows his emotion differently then real humans do. Some people when they are mad and upset keep their emotions in which affects them. But Hulk let's it out and shows it.
Alex Shirk (Burnt Hills High School)
I am not inspired by superheroes, but I still love the idea of them. Especially Dr.Strange, I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. If I could choose a superpower it would be to pull things from the internet and bring them into the real world, just think about it. If you see something online you really want, but don't have any money, you can just find an image of it and pull it out. plus you can grab a bunch of things from movies and games, like the infinity gauntlet, the portal gun, pokemon, etc. so if you have that superpower, you have access to literally everything on the internet. Which is a pretty amazing superpower.
Kate (BHBL High School)
If I had a superpower it would be to be able to have very strong hearing. I'd chose this superpower because you could hear everything people say and be able to hear things from far away. I'd also chose this super power because in case anyone ever needed help and i was to far away i would still be able to know where they are. I think this super power is cool because you could hear things from miles and miles away.
elise waller (Burnt Hills, New York)
I don't have a favorite superhero but if I could choose a superpower it would definitely be to read other people's thoughts. It could help me in so many daily situations but also might not be ideal. Id want to be able to choose when i would use it.
Brian C. (Burnt Hills High School)
Fictional superhero didn't really have any meaning in my life but my favorite superhero from when I was young was definitely Batman. If I could choose a superpower, I would probably choose telekinesis because I think it would be cool to be able to move things around with my mind and prank my friends sometimes.
Gabriel Goss (Burnt Hills NY)
If I could choose one superpower to have, it would be the ability to go invisible. You would be able to get into the movie theatre, or literally anywhere without ever needing to pay, you could listen to everyone's conversations and they would never know, and last but not least, you could lay in bed in the morning after your mom gets you up for school, and she wouldn't know.
Jackson Frame (BHBL High School, NY)
Yes because I have been watching Superheros and reading there comic books since i was young.
Perry Troutman (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
I’ve always been a big comic book nerd. I have all of my dad’s old comics, and I like to go down to my local comic book store to find comics with my favorite heroes. A lot of heroes were created to give people hope, or something to aspire to be like. Stan Lee worked really hard to get his message to people. What a lot of people don’t realize about superheroes, is the effort put into creating them. I’m a huge fan of Spider-Man, but not because of all the movies or anything like that (he is awesome though), I like him because of the effort that went into making him who he is. Lee’s idea for Spider-Man was rejected multiple times by his boss. His boss would say to him that nobody wants a reckless teenager as a hero. In Lee’s mind, that’s exactly why he wanted to create Spider-Man. He wanted to make a hero that the majority of the comic fan base could relate to. Spider-Man was not prepared for the great burden that he had. He could have easily used his powers for bad, but he made a choice to help others. We have that choice too. We can go out and do something great, but that choice is up to us. That great thing doesn’t have to be a giant stunt, it can be as simple as volunteering at a food drive, or helping out around your community. So if I were to simply say which superhero meant something in my life, my choice would probably be Spider-Man because of the role model that Lee created him to be.
xX_DR4G0N_SL4Y3RZZ_Xx (NY)
My favorite superhero is none. So my favorite character is Monika from Doki Doki. I like how she can manipulate the world with the in game console. I would like to be able to type things into the console and have those things happen. Like in the game where she can kill anyone by typing something like :removefile_(name);
Alex Dubuc (Burnt Hills Highschool)
yes, Because south park made them funny. My favorite one is The Coon aka Eric Cartman because he beats up butters, even when he didnt do anything. The Power I would want would be to eat things and gain there abilities.
Cameron Fugal (BHBL High School, Burnt Hills, NY)
yes, they are cool and fun to watch. i personally level with hulk because i get really mad sometimes and lose it. i correlate with cap amer. because i have good morals and try to help a lot of people. if i were to have a super power, it would be to have any super power. so i would be able to do everything.
Lawrence O (Bhbl, NY)
I have always loved Batman, He doesn't have any superpower but he still fight for justice. Batman always sticks to his moral code no matter want and refuses to kill, knowing if he did kill; he'd be no better than the bad guys. If I would be a superhero, I'd want to be just like him. Not needing a superpower but still able to make the world a little better.
alex c (new york)
One superpower that I would like to have would be Invisibility. This would be a cool power to have because then no one could see you whenever you choose.
Allison Singley (Burnt Hills NY)
Out of all the superhero powers, I would choose flight. Flight can be so fun yet important and helpful in different life situations. Say if I woke up late to school, I could get ready and fly there, and skip all of the traffic. It would also be cool to fly to different places you would usually go on vacation or just visit, like the Adirondacks. If I was in a situation, I could just fly out of it. I chose flying because also I would think flying is faster than walking or running. You can do so much with different superpowers, but I think flying is the most fun and helpful.
Keira (ny)
I don't have a favorite superhero. I never really watched superhero movies or used figurines or anything so I haven't really even thought about superheroes. My super power would be able to fly.
Lily Sisler (BHBL High School, NY)
If I could have any super power it would to be able to fly. i choose this because I could get place to m destination faster, and I wouldn't have to deal with traffic in a car. I wouldn't have to walk places I could just fly. Flying would make life a lot easier.
Ryleigh Wadsworth (Burnt Hills High School, NY)
I never was a fan of comics, nor superheroes in fictional stories. Growing up I watched shows that would be an example of real life, but not real, an example is Good Luck Charlie or Jessie. But if I could choose a superpower that I wish I could equip it would be invisibility. I believe it would be so fascinating just to disappear and have no one see or know where I was whenever I wanted.
Kathryn (Burnt Hills, NY)
Superheroes don't really inspire me, but they make me think about things. There are certain things they do that are good lessons in life. For example, superheroes are always doing good things to benefit/ save others, that is a good life lesson. Help others when they need it. If I could choose a superpower, I would choose the power to fly, because flying seems so fun.
Abby M. (New York)
I don't really relate to any superheroes since I don't read superhero-style comic books very often. If I were to have a superpower, I would want to have the ability to stop time, but still be able to move while time is frozen. This power would be useful for if I need to get somewhere quickly. I could freeze time, go to where I need to be, and unfreeze time. I also chose this superpower because it actually is one of, if not the most, powerful superpowers. You are literally stopping the entire known and unknown universe at the drop of a hat. I could also freeze time when I want to have some time on my own. Of course, whatever or whoever I touch would be brought into my bubble of being unfrozen while time is stopped.
Julie Neville (BH-BL Highschool)
Superheroes can be some of the biggest influencers in a child's life. We all had a favorite superhero that we wanted to be like. Throughout the years my "superpower" has changed. It was invisibility then the ability to fly. However, I believe I have found my "superpower". I would have the ability to stop time. To pause the universe. Time would stop. People would freeze and I could get up and walk around. I could stop crime and tie someone up before they hurt anyone. Or a more practical use could be taking a nap in class when I'm tired but not missing anything! I could do anything and not get in trouble. I could pause class and go get a snack. I could help someone in need. The possibilities are endless! I could do so much and experience so much more.
Emily Burdikoff (BHBL High School)
If I were to have any superpower, I would like to have the power of reading the future. I could do that I could even get a business out of it. I can even predict if I should take that risk. it would be better than other powers. You don't have to second guess anything.
Phoebe Amirault (Burnt Hills, New York)
If I had powers then I would want to be able to fly. I feel like flying could be something so much cooler than you can imagine. The feeling of the wind blowing against you while floating above everyone. The feeling of flying must be so perfect.
Ashley B (Burnt Hills)
Fictional superheroes do not have much meaning in my life, but if I could have any superpower I would be able to travel through time. It is a very efficient way to get places and I personally don't like long car rides so it would be easier if I could just teleport places. It is also easier if you are late and you need to get somewhere fast.
mason (New Yawk)
If I could have any superpower I would want to be able to time travel to relive history and go to famous events, also I find out what is in front of me and when and how I will die.
Eric_Cartman (NY)
i dont have a favorite superhero but my favorite fictional character is yuri. she is from my favorite game ddlc. she is a purple haired girl in a literature club. she always read stuff no one else read. she was very shy but when she got to know you she would open up. she was very mysterious. if i could have a super power i would have flying. it would be fun to fly you could go anywhere when you want. if i wanted to go to japan to see drift races i could. i could fly and meet the creators of ddlc. i would fly and go to every slipknot concert.
