Why so much about Biden in an article that should be about Sanders? Thank you for giving up the old habit of insulting the Senator.

There's only one Republican running, Trump and then there are several Democrats so isn't your headline a out of sync?

Saying that a Republican out-fundraised a Democrat is like saying someone who used the Konami Code outran a Contra speedrunner who never died in game. Even if they did, they still cheated—if not broke the law—and didn't even care to hide it. And these days, cheating and lawbreaking are points of pride for that party-cult. Just look at their impending impeachment.

Trump may have raised more but Democratic funds are being disbursed among a great number of candidates.

#1 - Trump has repeatedly lied about his income, so let's take his claim with a grain of salt. #2 - The democratic field still has many contenders. Collectively, they have likely raised far more than Trump. What happens when the democrats have a single candidate? This is not good news for Trump.

How about publicizing the total combined amounts of Democratic donations, and compare them to what Trump is raising, with virtually no competition? And then publicize the number of individual contributors for the Democrats vs. Trump? And don't forget to mention how much of each sides' money is coming from big, corporate donations? The GOP continues to shoot itself in foot by putting all its money on an increasingly lame and flea-bitten nag. And trying to quash the various state primaries that would give their side a semblance of the appearance of caring about democracy.

No surprise that the best fundraising results are for the two demagogues in the race: Trump and Sanders. Birds of the feather, they appeal to the same audience: disaffected nihilists who are tired of our system of checks and balances, freedom of expression, and economic opportunity. It is hard to imagine a worse president than Trump, but if there is to be one, his name will be Sanders. However, money is no indication of electoral success as Hillary learned to her (and our) misfortune. Sanders is unelectable. I would like to say the same for Trump, but it if he running against the self-declared socialist, he might be re-elected.

Yang is my candidate because what matters most is who can beat Trump. In order to do so, the Democratic candidate will have to convince a sufficient number of Trump voters to vote for the other side. I honestly don't believe this will be Sanders, Warren, Biden, Buttigieg, Harris or Booker. I respect and vouch for them all and would take any of them over Trump. But they will lose the swing states just as Clinton did. In numerous polls, Trump voters have repeatedly said they would vote for Yang. He is also the only candidate Trump hasn't addressed publicly except to acknowledge a comment that Yang is more likeable than he is. Trump has no mojo (until he pulls out racist rants against him, which he will) against Yang because Yang talks data. Yang is anti-establishment just like Sanders but a lot more appealing to the other side because he is addressing issues that got Trump elected, not vying for ideologies that embolden Trump supporters. Please stop supporting these establishment politicians and join Yang, for the chance of beating Trump.

All the money in the world will not Trump a decent human make. Don't you find it obscene that, in this country, elections can be bought? Would it not be much more productive and fair to vet candidates on the basis of their REAL accomplishments, their intelligence and their honesty? The billions spent on propaganda, lies, hate-mongering, demonization could cure cancer, educate all, provide universal medical care, repair infrastructure and protect our electoral process. Instead, they are flushed down a bottomless toilet. Trump came out of the gate with hatred and lies. That's all he can do since he has done nothing but destroy since his inauguration. If he had to run on his honesty, intelligence and accomplishments he could never get past the first week of campaigning. This outrageous circus must stop and Americans must DEMAND excellence or wind up with a criminal sociopath destroying their futures.

The days before the fundraising numbers were released, the Berners were on Reddit begging for people to send in money as they said Bernie had no fundraising monies in the last quarter...

I wonder how much of Trump's money has come from Russia? Clearly, his base has no money left, because their idol has taken it all away.
Doug Tarnopol (Cranston, RI)
Wow, you can't even just report that Sanders is killing it, among the very population that can overturn Trump, with zero help (far from it) from any mainstream media publication. Just pour cold water all over it: Trump made more. If Warren or Biden have a bigger haul, out will pour the articles trumpeting that fact, along with "Sanders is flailing and all finished." Again, Sanders supporters know this, pivot off it, and use it to expand Sanders' support among those who really are sick and tired of being told nothing that would change the hopelessness in the country that is fueling fascism is ever going to be possible. So, by all means: keep it up!

$125 million for Trump. That says a lot.
Labslove (NYC)
can we all combine and stand behind one? because ppl are donating to trump, while democratics are donating to all different ones!

"Now the big questions looming over the donor race are whether Senator Elizabeth Warren will surpass him, and whether former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will trail far behind." No — they aren't the big questions.
Mitch C (Manhattan NY)
The president is breaking all-time presidential fund raising records yet The NY Times chooses not to lead with this angle. Trump is consistently raising gargantuan amounts of $$ over any other candidate. Isn’t The NY Times supposed to be nonpartisan in its journalism?

http://www.opensecrets.org/overview/ When I add up all the contributions to all the canidates it look very close. Why did I have to search for this information?

I'm always watching in amazement, when a candidate's ability and suitability to govern is judged by how much money he/she can raise. Only in America, eh?
Deirdre (New Jersey)
This is why elections should be publicly funded. Wealthy people paying millions so their agenda is front and center is not good for the rest of us. One person, one vote- get the money out of politics
Sandra Garratt (Palm Springs, California)
Yes Bernie is honest and the only authentic progressive candidate and always has been, he literally invented the current platform...I will continue to stand w/ Bernie and while there is impressive talent on the Democratic candidate stage Bernie is the real deal and no one comes close to him. Where were they all on these issues in the past? The corporate DNC has done all they can to sabotage Bernie Sanders and yet he stands strong and his base is loyal because he is the real deal.

I am less interested in whether or not Warren raises more money than Sanders than how many donors she has. This is really the best measure of committed grassroots support. Its the best proxy for number of volunteers and how deeply a candidates message is reaching people. What is most impressive about Bernie's numbers are not the dollar totals, important though those are. What is most impressive in the chasm that exists between him and the other candidates in small donations from working class Americans in literally every corner of the country. Opinion polls rely on models of who is more or less likely to vote. Such models are bad at capturing the support for candidates, like Bernie, who speak most directly to people who are otherwise alienated from the political process. Warren's recent surge in a number of polls likely mainly represents white high income professionals migrating away from Biden as his vulnerabilities have become increasingly apparent. There is a good chance that some of their money has come with them. But if we want to know who has the most support on the ground, the number we need to look at it is the total number of unique donors.
