Vitamin D During Pregnancy May Improve Dental Health of Babies

My mother was pregnant for me from October to June--in cloudy Seattle, in the '50s, when nobody was thinking about vitamin D. My guess is she got very little D. And in my baby teeth, I had cavities galore. My brother and my sister, both of whose pregnancies included a Boston summer, when my mother would have spent a lot of time outside as was both parents' wont, would have gotten a lot more D. Neither had nearly as many cavities as I did. Interestingly, my dental history steadily improved as my permanent teeth came in. Factors responsible probably include that after I was 4 we lived mostly in Boston, and I spent most of my summer (and a lot of spring and fall) days outdoors. I would guess genetics also played a part.

I have known friends who have been harmed by vitamin d hype, one with multiple incidents of kidney stones.Take these observations”studies” with a grain of salt.

Reading all those tips after having had two healthy children ist an interesting experience. How many more concerns could I have had! So many more possibilities to feel bad and inadequate!
