"Trumps Condemns White Supremacy but stops short of major gun control" In the awake of two shootings in El Paso Texas and Dayton Ohio the president was forced to make a response. In the interview he condemns the shooting and the reasoning behind it. While he spent most of the time blaming racism he mentioned no gun reforms or legislation to at least make an attempt to stop these tragedies. In fact all he did was blame Video games which after time and time again have been proven not to cause shootings but the media and the president have used it as an escapegoat. This type of inaction is very much disturbing as instead of cutting to the root of the problem of mental health and over abundance of military grade weapons.

"Ebola outbreak in Congo is declared a Global health emergency" The Congo is to say it lightly is one of the world's deadliest places. Constant wars, lack of infrastructure and disease have scarred the Nation. The world health organization has announced that Ebola has spread into neighboring countries. This happened due to a lack of quarantine enforcement. As a result international responders have scrambled to the eastern Congo in attempt to stop the spread of the world's deadliest disease. This is a very saddening story as many of the Congolese are extremely poor and lack many basic necessities. As a result disease spreads rapidly without constraint. Lack of sanitation, burial locations and no end in site has lead many local villages to get witch doctors. Many international doctors have been attacked by locals as many blame them for their recent suffering. Hopefully they will be to contain the recent outbreak in time before its to late.

I read the article “Why Mass Murderers May Not Be Very Different From You or Me” by Richard A. Friedman. This article really fascinated me because it gave me a new pair of eyes to dig into the minds of mass murderers. The statistics that were presented were unbelievably scary as I came to the realization that these criminals really are just like us. Dr.Friedman clearly said that most mass murderers aren’t even mentally ill. They are just filled with lots of anger and hatred all while being well armed. After the El Paso shooting, President Trump claimed that mass killers are “mentally ill monsters.” This article truly proved our president wrong. In paragraph 4, it states, “One of the largest studies of mass killers, conducted by Dr.Michael Stone and involving 350 people, found that only 20 percent had a psychotic illness; the other 80 percent had no diagnosable mental illness - just anger that the rest of us have.” After these recent shootings, states have started to open new mental health care facilities, but after reading this article it is so clear to me that this is not the solution! If everyone assumes that all mass killers are mentally ill and just shove them into a facility, it’ll only make them angrier! As Dr.Friedman pointed out, more reasonable and logical solutions would be stricter gun control laws that enhance background checks and expanding extreme risk protection orders which would allow law enforcement to remove firearms from people deemed violent.

The article that i read was What to Do With All That Summer Fruit. This interested me because i’m always looking for new recipes. I am also looking for healthy recipes! This is an amazing article about how to make fruit into an amazing dish or desert. I love fruit myself so when I saw the title of this article I had to read it to see how many new recipes I could get! I have a lot of leftover fruit that my mom has frozen so it will not rot! We have made pies and just eaten the fruit but now we know what to do with the leftover!

“Ebola Outbreak in Congo Is Declared a Global Health Emergency” I can still remember the first time I’d ever heard of Ebola, middle school hallways were filled with jokes containing the deadly disease. At the time, nobody fully understood the potential effect and damage Ebola could have. After Ebola was concealed and diminished in the United States, that was the last time I had ever even heard the word Ebola. The title of this article caught my eye, I wasn’t even aware that the disease was still in existence and was spreading. According to the article, this outbreak is the second largest Ebola outbreak in history. Hearing that almost 2,000 lost their lives to this disease in less than a single year is unbelievable. Poorer countries, such as this one and other Ebola infected places in the past, are not given the necessary resources to care for their patients. More safety precautions should be taken and sanitization should be provided to keep the disease from spreading more and more. Knowing that over 49 million dollars have been donated helps ensure the health and safety of the people in these countries is a relief, but it is still devastating to know that lives are still being lost to this disease.

"Instagram is hiding likes. Will that reduce anxiety?" Talk of social media being bad for children's mental health has been going around for awhile. When the social media platform first came out, people used it as a way to share pictures and videos from their lives. Now, it is the same, but with more competition to see who can get more "likes" and "comments" on posts. Unfortunately, most of this competition is coming from the younger generations. To solve this issue, Instagram is beginning to hide "likes" on people's posts so they don't feel bad about themselves getting less "likes" than another person. A lot of friends I know get very concerned with how many "likes" and comments" they receive on posts, and sometimes it can take control of their brains a little bit, which is not healthy at all. I believe that this will help student's anxiety levels, because if they can't see it, they won't worry about it. This might keep anxiety issues, depression issues, and maybe even suicide numbers down. It is much healthier to post without worrying how much attention the post is going to get. Thank you!

In the article On ‘Buzz Aldrin Returned From the Moon. Then His Real Adventure Began' it was very interesting to find that returning from the moon was as hard as they made it sound. I genuinely am sorry for what they have experienced afterwards, but grateful that they were able to express what they felt to allow other people to understand what they felt. I do believe it may have been very difficult to simply just go back to normal reality. Being that they were the first one to be on the moon people would not have felt they way that they did. So making false assumptions as to what they were feeling after the trip may have affected them in ways they couldn't express. Though I am glad to have a different point of view in such a milestone. I would have never thought to think about this perspective.

"Trump Tells Congresswomen to ‘Go Back’ to the Countries They Came From" Damaging language, especially the use of it within national circles and in public can be especially impactful to "stoking racial divisions" as Katie Rogers and Nicholas Fandos put it. Unfortunately, President Trump has made these damaging remarks to many people over the years, now particularly being four congresswoman collectively known as "The Squad." In his comments on twitter, he says to "go back" to where they came from, which frankly makes no sense as they are all American citizens. This type of language/name-calling should especially be discouraged in national politics, as it only harms the national discussion. Instead, our elected officials should not stoop so low, rather discuss policies that actually affect their constituents, the people.

In the article titled How to Force 8Chan, Reddit and Others to Clean Up the author, Jonathan Taplin, tells the reader what his solution to the issue of people spreading toxic ideas online. In my opinion, toxic is a broad term used for an idea or post that makes others feel uncomfortable. The solution Taplin presents is to have government intervention on these topics. First of all, it is difficult to have an idea of what toxic content is. Ideas of what is acceptable widely vary. Some things everyone can agree on, such as illegal actions. Other things that are immoral, but not illegal can be classified as toxic by some people, but not others. This can lead to a slippery slope where things are classified toxic and first amendment rights are infringed on. Secondly, when a person posts something online that is against the terms of service of a website, the post is taken down immediately. Recently there was controversy over the manifesto of Brenton Tarrant being posted on 8Chan. The terms of service on 8Chan is that nothing illegal can be posted. The manifesto was taken down in nine minutes. The website was able to monitor themselves without intervention needed. As technology improves so will the ability to stop people who are committing heinous acts online. This idea is best represented by Facebook. Their algorithm stops about 90% of all toxic content. These reasons have led me to believe that government intervention is not necessary to make sure that people are safe online.

When I tried to think what is the most interesting thing that I saw in the New York Times, there was one video that immediately popped in my mind as a video that extricated a strong reaction from me. The video is an incredibly annoying video that shows the United States’ president, Donald Trump bragging about the “Great deal that he made with Mexico”. In the video, he is flashing with the alleged agreement in front of the reporters' cameras and claims that the agreement will serve well both America and Mexico. I found the video as a very disturbing video because neither of the commentaries I could come up with shows Donald Trump, one of the world’s most powerful leaders in a good light.  I thought of two different commentaries to the video both equally disturbing. The first commentary is that trump flashes in front of the reporters’ cameras with a random piece of paper. Which means that the USA's governor has so little appreciation to his citizens that he lies to them in their faces. The other and not any better possibility is that one of the world's most powerful leaders actually walks with a top-secret agreement in his coat’s pocket. Both possibilities are incredibly scary and annoying because neither of those behaviors, arrogant and irresponsibility are acceptable when it comes to a leader on that scale. Therefore it’s a very important video that people must watch.

Trump Condemns White Supremacy but Stops Short of Major Gun Controls This article explains President Trump’s speech and the two deadly mass shootings over the weekend. The article also explains trumps reasoning for the shooting calling them “racist hate” and blames the shootings on mental illnesses and video games but fails to mention anything about gun control. This topic sparked my interest because of Trump’s failure to mention gun control. Of course, many are saddened by the shooting, but more and more are becoming furious with President Trump as I have become.

I enjoyed this article because of the challenge it brought me not because of the words stated in it. I disagree with the author of this article. I wanted to comment on this article because it is something that I can disagree which is different than what you are supposed to say. As a christian reading this was difficult to do. You call out to God and he will hear your cries. You ask for his love and he will show it because you are his child. He doesn’t force you to be his child. He doesn’t create bad people to bring hell upon the earth. The man holding a weapon determines the outcome, not the weapon itself. People ask why God doesn’t prevent human violence, or stop droughts, or hurricanes, or anything. We as humans need something to blame the problems of the world on and we look to God to do that. What we don’t understand is that God can’t solve every single problem. We need to first look at our own lives and ask ourselves do we even deserve this greatness. The Lord God almighty is our guiding hand through difficult times. We should not be asking, where was God, but rather where humankind? We need to look towards the good in the world rather than the bad, because no matter what happens, God is always there for us. “Jesus replied, “You do not realize what I am doing, but later you will understand” John 13:7. I comment on this article, “Dear God, Are You There?”in order to show and express that God is amazing and will always be there for us even when times get rough.

Why a cow, why is it that cattle are used to produce the majority of milk that is consumed around the world. For the people that can enjoy it, milk and the products made from it are considered as treats. Milk is so ingrained in our society its considered its own food group. Although some people dislike the way the cows are treated and they seek alternatives like soy milk or other plant based milks. But it just isn't the same as cows milk. Simply put plant based milks are chemically different than milk produced by a cow. The article "Got Impossible Milk? The Quest for Lab-Made Dairy" peaked my interest because I have seen a rise in lab grown food such as meat. For years now we have used bacteria to produce insulin and other chemicals and hormones rather than kill animals and harvest it from them. The idea of using bacteria to produce the different contents of milk sounds like a great idea as long as its cost effective enough. The amount of money that goes into making a pound of lab grown meat is tremendous and it wouldn't be the type of product your average consumer could afford. I have a friend who is a vegan and I have discussed their thoughts on lab grown meat and they said it is a good idea. But I don't like the idea of lab grown milk for the same reason as I do the idea of lab grown meat. The meat provides an alternative choice to killing animals. Where the milk diversifies the markets if something were to ever happen to the cows, something like the Irish potato famine.
