I laugh every time that I can sing like him - and you - in my car. [my windows are rolled up - lol] Not even close to the level of talent he, you and Roberta possess. Thank you for doing this, and thank you for your voice. More than you ever know....

When I hear Lalah sing it is true listen for her father's notes and riffs. I was wondering just when she would walk in his light...As a child growing up Donny Hathaway's music is what we lived by. May parent's and I loved his music. If was often the music my father played while he was tossing them back while having a conversation with Donny Hathaway. It was deep. Donny was telling his story through and we listened. When he died my mother said he had a lot on inside. As I got older learned of his challenges. "Young Gifted and Black" was my anthem and a "Song For You" was the hymn sang as a tribute to my father at his funeral. So to this day when I hear the music (Song For You) of Donny Hathaway I cry for 2 reasons, 1 for him and his struggle and remembering my father. Lord willing I will make to NY to see her performance. It will be stellar! Peace and light Lalah.

Please don't forget his most well known performance: Lady Godiva was a freedom rider She didn't care if the whole world looked Joan of Arc with the Lord to guide her She was a sister who really cooked Isadora was the first bra-burner Ain't ya glad she showed up? (Oh yeah!) And when the country was fallin' apart Betsy Ross got it all sewed up (CHORUS): (And then there's Maude) And then there's Maude (And then there's Maude) And then there's Maude (And then there's Maude) And then there's Maude (And then there's.....) That uncompromisin', enterprisin', anything but tranquilizin' Right on Maude! Right on Donny!!!

Thank you Lalah for blessing the world with this concert of what some of us consider the sacred music of the late great anointed minister of music Donny Hathaway. When I heard your recorded version of The song penned by your dad ‘You Had to Know’ I had to listen so closely because you truly channeled him and sounded just like him voice, inflections, pauses, everything. I know you will do well with his music in this special concert series I hope it is taped or streamed for those of us who won’t be in the number. Praise God! Bless you and your family ✌🏽♥️🖤💚

Donny Hathaway has always been known as a musician's musician. Folks who play and perform live -- and listeners with sharp ears - have always recognized him as an under-the-radar super-talent. His Live album is certainly one of the finest of that type - a great 70s album. Both the musicianship and feel are stupendous. Among musicians, his influence was significant. After hearing Hathaway's Live record (cut in '72), go listen to Stevie Wonder's singing one more time (say, on "I Am Singing" on Songs in the Key of Life, cut in '76) and you'll hear the theft.

@RR Considering that Donnie was born in 1945 and Stevie in 1950 I would imagine Donny was adopting his style, learned in church, before Stevie was. "Theft" is a strong word.

I remember the first time I heard one of his songs. I just kind of stopped and was like who is this and why have I never heard him before. His voice was just so powerful, his emotion so raw and deep. It moved me so deeply and I’m glad we got to experience his brilliance even if it was all too brief.

Thank you so much for giving us the gift of your father. We are all richer for being able to live in his spirit again.

He was a remarkable talent - his duets with Roberta Flack were an indelible part of the soundtrack of my youth. Hope to make the 4 hour drive to hear Lalah honor her father.
