The ‘Stranger Things’ Kids Reflect on Where They’ve Been, and Where They’re Headed

Was in a pretty decent Rock/Pop Band in 1985. I can still pull out our old Promo pics in which we had our ridiculous Perms & Black Silk Baseball jackets ... Yikes ! I much preferred our harder, scruffier "Doobies" look in the 70's. But, you go with the times. Up until now when there are basically no gigs left for young musicians to hone any skills on.

The premise, plot, and lab set designs look like the Spanish television show "El Internado."

One of the best things that shows that are set in the '80s like 'Stranger Things' and 'The Americans" is that they don't overplay the whole "OMG, the '80s were a horrendous joke!" I grew up during and absolutely hated the '80s, and for the same reason cannot stand movies or TV shows that max-out the references, with the god-awful wardrobes, hair and music; but 'Strange Things' inserts those references in a much more subtle way. Some of the more amusing (and embarrassing) moments in the show are when Steve gives Dustin advice on how to style his hair - I did ridiculous things in middle school to get the latest massive-head look! The cast has been great, but yes eventually young actors do grow up and move on. Thank goodness we have are cartoons like 'Simpsons' and 'Big Mouth' in which the kids never have to age...

I'm around the age of the cast of "Stranger Things". I cant imagine teenagers these days pretending to be a teen in the 80's because a lot has changed over the years, but the cast of "Stranger Things" right now is doing a great job. The cast was talking about their past friendships and how one of the big themes in "Stranger Things" felt authentic to them because their friends before being on the show they don't talk to anymore because they're apart. I found this very interesting because this happens very often. You find friends in an area, leave then never speak to them again or talk to them for awhile then you stop. I always wonder how the cast would respond when they see themselves on the internet or when they watch their own show. I think i could look at myself or how iv'e grown through the years and cringe a little, then laugh it off. I'm very excited for the new season and to see how the cast has grown.

I am around the same age as the young stars who play the cast of 'Stranger Things'. Sometimes the characters will react in ways that make me think, "Wow, I would've done the exact same thing" and it's scary. Like the actors and directors make it feel so real. During some of the scary scenes I can't imagine how the scenes started with actors yelling at the sky. I also find it hard to believe that such time passed since they last updated the show. Really? Almost two years? It doesn't feel like that amount of time has passed at all. I don't know how they deal with the thought of their younger selves always being a few clicks away. I would always be embarrassed of my younger self's decisions. I would probably watch myself and think, 'Should I have done that?' and 'Was that really necessary?' I can't wait for the next season to come out and I hope the actors themselves continue with their careers for a long time.

Can’t wait! The first season was the very first thing I ever watched on Netflix.

"It must be strange to live in a Midwest town that is home to nefarious conspiracies, secret experiments and a portal to an alternate dimension populated by grotesque monsters.". no. it felt perfectly normal to me (except for the corn andsoybean fields).

I’m a mid-40s woman and love the show... my niece is 15 and couldn’t watch it past the first episode. She found all the 80s references too much to digest and prefers edgy but modern (unless it’s a British mystery). I’m looking forward to season 3 but my binge will have to wait until after the nieces leave.

The very first NY Times article my 10-yr old son has read from beginning to end! The “Stranger Things” countdown has begun in my house!

What great kids! Love the quote from Schnapp:"you don’t need your phone all the time. People lived like this." Something I was still able to do only a few years ago before the office got me an iphone ;)

Way, way overrated show. The best thing about Stranger Things is Howard Stern's impersonation of Millie Bobby Brown's "agent".

Best.Show.Ever! I was a teenager in the 80’s and the Duffers totally captured the feeling of that time. Can’t wait to watch the new season! P.S. Wish we could all go back to pre-cell phone life....

@Annie I started watching with my sci-fi loving husband, but now I watch because it’s a great show. Looking forward to the new season!
