I learned a lot about architectural design through the events on The Arts Oasis, a new website. Definitely check it out!

Nice looking building. Too bad it’s out of reach of most people.

One could call it Art Deco Patchwork Quilt design... a popular style found in many modular home trailer parks.

This is Disney Deco not Art Deco. Have our standards have sunk so low that this is considered a "beautiful building", just because it contains a few deco-ish flourishes? It's another box, with some grillwork stuck on as an afterthought. Please educate yourself as to what real Art Deco architecture looked like and then reconsider your appraisal. You can start with any of the buildings by Ralph Walker, particularly One Wall Street.

that's a good looking building

Nice building with smart 2019 design features that maximize usability such as flexible living and work from home spaces.

I have always loved the art deco style of Miami's South Beach. If NYC picks up on this, so much the better.

@Joseph Hanania New York fortunately has a considerable amount, especially the Upper West Side, West Bronx (Grand Concourse), Washington Heights, Midtown/Chelsea. Even Staten Island has a notable example. Check out this book: New York Art Deco: A Guide to Gotham's Jazz Age Architecture - by Anthony W. Robins, or one of his tours with Municipal Art Society.

Quite the handsome building! Although it will rise "only" to 605 feet, it easily stands above many of its contemporary supertalls.

As others have said: A Beautiful Structure!

Finally, a real building, not a soulless glass tower!
Matthew (New Jersey)
@Will. Oh lord. Expand the picture and put your glasses on. Just cuz they slapped a cheap, cosmetic chevron something-or-other on it does not really require fawning over it. It's another cookie-cutter tower for the 0.1%. It represents the death knell for Rose Hill, my old neighborhood. The Portzamparc thing on 28th/PAS was the harbinger. Every mom n pop probably just got a notice about their rent. This area of Manhattan served a real purpose of relief from the relentless economics of Manhattan. It's where real people could still live in peace. And largely afford it. An oasis where no one went unless they lived there, or needed something for Kaluystayan's. No tourists. This blight in all of Manhattan is not to be celebrated, but rather mourned.

@Matthew Cities aren’t NIMBY time capsules. They exist to serve the needs of current and future residents. Whining about such changes is like mourning that the Ladies’ Mile no longer contains grand stores like Wanamaker’s. I hope they build more of these new buildings throughout Manhattan. Even if middle class people can’t afford them, it’ll pull affluent buyers away from older co-ops and condos. NIMBYs can keep pressing the false narrative that new buildings cause real estate prices to increase, but these areas began gentrifying long ago. Prices for comparable units would have increased even without new building. Demand is constant, new supply is what is absent. And unless new supply increases substantially throughout all the boroughs, housing shortages will persist.

@Matthew. Very easy to pontificate from the suburbs of New Jersey. Hardly blight. I see an area that has been revitalized (oh, I still live here and pay taxes). I really like the building at 28 and Park that replaced.....a parking lot. Which was so convenient for the hookers that also were permanent fixture at that corner. No, lets just look back with rose colored glasses, when we were young. This tower is pretty good. others not so much. They should be encouraged to build quality design and construction.

The building looks absolutely stunning and I would welcome a return to the quaint, stately designs of the Art Deco period. New York has been sorely lacking in skyscrapers that uplift the human spirit. Looking forward to more of these!

Beautiful building. And the perfect place for The Ghostbusters to have a battle on the roof with Gozer the Destroyer.
