I have one vote and it will never be for Biden. He just won't beat Trump so my vote really will not count, again. Remember the Dems had a chance for the SCOTUS, not a chance but a responsibility ? They barely fought for it. Did you say executive order ? I heard that whisper. Go ahead and try working with the 'other side' as Joe claims he can, as long as its for prisons for profit, putting closet Republicans like Max Baucus in charge of healthcare, more war like Iraq. Just make sure the other side isn't the dark side. If only Americans would realize what is at stake here, but they won't, they will let the media and old politics tell them what is best for them and essentially the real true leader 'the corporation' will win. A sad day for Democracy and the American people.

Personally, I am looking for someone who can bring dignity back to the White House and international respect for the US by the world. Almost nothing else matters - I don't really care about the economy. I want to be able to be proud of my country again - something which is sadly missing from my psyche right now, given the present occupant of the WH. it's going to take someone with all the experience at campaigning that Biden has, to take out Trump. The other younger candidates are all very nice, - maybe he can pick one of them to be his Veep, but it's going to take an old white guy to kick the present old white guy out of office. "You don't bring a knife to a gun fight."

"It did not generate mass incarceration." Just like Trump, Joe knows it doesn't matter if you lie.

Ugh dude. Can the baby boomers step aside already? 4 presidents over three decades is enough. No more presidents that used type writers in college. The world can’t afford for someone from another word to govern anymore.
Dolly Patterson (Silicon Valley)
Biden is sincere which speaks loudly in the past as well as the future.
Louise (Brooklyn)
We’re the attendees happy to see Vice President Biden? Were they receptive to his take on the issues? If so, then who thinks Biden’s approach is outdated? Maybe some democrats are tired of the Progressives making demands on the Democratic candidates that most of the country will not likely support! I can tell you that I supremely tired of the current administration but I have to say those who identify as Progressives can have a negative effect on the voters who need to vote for a democratic candidate to oust our current President I think the Democratic candidate for President has to Attract a wide swath of voters in order to beat Trump

People in their 70s do tend to talk about experiences that date back 60 or 50 or 40 years. Those of us in our 30s tend not to do so. If in 2020 younger citizens decide to stay home rather than vote, they will deserve the four more years of Trumpism and the effects those will undoubtedly have on their own lives.

Hey Joe, the 1990s called. They say they want their democratic platform back.
chambolle (Bainbridge Island)
I would vote for a ham sandwich if necessary to sweep Donald Trump and his entire demented entourage out of Washington. I don’t wanna hear that the bread is a day old, or the meat a bit too salty. I just want that creep and his creepy enablers out of our politics, forever. Period.
Ken (Massachusetts)
@chambolle Right on (what a dated expression)! It's amazing how many Democrats would seem to prefer a glorious defeat on the ramparts to supporting an "establishment" candidate like Biden. I wonder whether the Russians (Trump's stalwart supporters) have introduced some heinous virus into their cotton candy-filed politically correct heads. I do hope they'll come to their senses before it is too late.
lkos (nyc)
Is it "dated" or classic and appropriate? We need someone who will make people feel safe. Many who voted for Trump would like to see someone else, but it can't be someone too extreme, needs to feel safe. All who voted for Clinton would vote for Biden, plus many who voted for Trump. Hopefully those who didn't vote in 2016 or voted for Jill Stein will come to their senses.
Will. (NYCNYC)
The kids may not appreciate Mr. Biden. But the kids have proven over and over again that they are unreliable voters. Pandering to unreliable or non-voters is political malpractice.

Age really is an issue with Biden (and Bernie) and neither is the right messenger to win in 2020. "Meandering answers" are not what one wants from a candidate who is going to have to beat Trump. Biden recently referred to Theresa May as Margaret Thatcher, a slip that anyone in their 70s has likely experienced. "Spry" refers to an old person who is lively. Biden, having enhanced his hair, face, and teeth is trying to curb that description. But it's not just appearance; he has hashed-over ideas that do not begin to meet the situation the US is in today.
By George (Tombstone, AZ)
Warmth never goes out of style. I find curious how the articles in the press that talk about "raising questions" and "possible pitfalls" seem to focus so heavily on Biden, while coverage of the other candidates borders on the hagiographic.
Lilly (New Hampshire)
Warmth? Or hubris to force others to make him look the way he wants to be portrayed. His and his son’s policies and actions portray a different man. Ask Anita Hill.
Mimi (Baltimore and Manhattan)
@By George Cable TV does this also. You would think CNN is Fox News when it comes to Biden.
Famdoc (New York)
As I read the comments left before mine, I see I am not alone: Trump must be defeated and Joe Biden is in the best position to do so. He is a decent, experienced and reality-based. I am not bothered by his age. I am willing to forgive him his past errors in judgement and firmly believe this country will be in very good hands with a Biden presidency. To the 20+ other candidates: please realize that defeating Trump is only part of the mission. We must also defeat the Trump agenda. That means having progressive minds and voices in the House, the Senate, State Houses and legislatures and City Halls.
johnny1290 (Los Angeles, Ca)
Yes, times are changing. Generations are aging out, and demographics are shifting. That having been said, no way a left wing candidate is going to win the presidency this time round. If anything Trump may be stronger come 2020. Know a lot of people are in denial about that, but we could do a lot worse than Joe in present circumstances. Good luck to us all
InstructorJohn (New Jersey)
I do believe that President Trump does fear a contest against Joe Biden and well he should. Mr. Biden has the authenticity and real sincerity which Mr. Trump will never possess, in his narcissistic excess. Mr. Biden will take and consider the counsel of experts in any number of fields, an action which Mr. Trump is incapable of, as he lacks all intellectual inquisitiveness. Mr. Biden has the best balanced experience of any of the Democratic candidates. is he perfect- no- but coupled perhaps with a female Vice Presidential candidate, he will be a very formidable candidate. Perhaps-also a commitment to one term might also be a persuasive point to younger voters.
Joe Runciter (Santa Fe, NM)
Most of us who always vote are "dated" too.
David (California)
Joe Biden is a huge inspiration for all of us. The press can nitpick trivia all they want, and they do, but Biden is walking away with the nomination and will make a great president.
pauljosephbrown (seattle,wa)
Anyone who suggests that the Republicans will have an epiphany once President Trump is out of office is naive at best, and more likely willfully ignorant. Suggesting as much reveals a fundamental failure to understand the nature of the Republican Party. Worse, Biden has made this profound misjudgment previously. Here he is in 2012, ever the aw-shucks optimist despite all the facts to the contrary: "“There are still some solid Republican conservatives who understand what principled compromise means and are not wrapped up in ideological purity,” said Biden, insisting he knew a dozen Republican senators and up to three dozen House members that want to work with the Democrats. After the election is over, Biden said members will say “’Hey man I no longer have an obligation to stick with the right of the party’… I really believe you’ll see movement. Real movement.”"
Pat (Farmingdale)
Trump fears Joe. He’s got my vote!
Matt (Pennsylvania)
Again policies are what matters, not appearance. Joe Biden's inability to recognize the crisis we are in and his willingness to work with a fascist party, would make him in my opinion, a dangerous choice for these times. We can not afford to continue rewarding big moneyed interests at the expense of everyone else.
Joe Runciter (Santa Fe, NM)
@Matt Policies do not mean a whole lot if the GOP holds on to the senate.
Mimi (Baltimore and Manhattan)
@Joe Runciter Exactly. Elizabeth Warren might have plans coming out of her ears but they won't matter if the Senate is still run by McConnell.
blgreenie (Lawrenceville NJ)
@Matt Policies are in the head. Most voters are motivated by their feelings.
Dave Ebs (Pennsylvania)
My concern with all the Democratic candidates is that after four years of infantile ranting, lies and disguised bigotry, many people have come to accept that as the norm and are no longer appalled. Everyone needs to ensure they're talking specific policies which appeal to the citizens of this country, and not just "I'm not the ignorant fool in the Oval Office today" (which I agree is a huge plus).
Greg (Troy NY)
He's running for president in 2020 and he's out there bragging about being buddies with Jesse Helms? The notoriously racist and corrupt Jesse Helms? What is he thinking?
Cass (Missoula)
@Greg If Biden were friends in 2019 with Richard Spencer or David Duke, that would be one thing. But being friends with Jesse Helms decades ago is quite another. Biden has the humility to admit he doesn't need to virtue signal on Twitter by calling out all of his imperfect friends. He has the wisdom to know that the two political sides in this country are like the partners in a marriage. It may seem tempting to win, to defeat the other side. But, Biden understands something every candidate except Buttigieg doesn't: The problem with one side winning in a marriage is that the winner then finds him/herself married to a loser.
Barry Moyer (Washington, DC)
The entire assembly of democratic presidential hopefuls, every single one, is breathtakingly better than Trump. The only thing to be decided is how much better and even that doesn't really matter.
Will. (NYCNYC)
@Barry Moyer Well said! I like some more than others. I dislike some a lot more than others. I loath de Blasio who foolishly entered the race today. However. Unless the Democrats somehow, someway nominate Donald Trump, I will be enthusiastically pulling the D lever in November 2020. Period. End of story.
Milton Lewis (Hamilton Ontario)
Biden is a competent individual with a strong moral compass. His government experience and essential decency should be enough to defeat Trump. Sometimes the good guys win.
Irene Cantu (New York)
Politeness is never outdated. He is a grown up and a realist. That is what I want in a President.
Cass (Missoula)
@Irene Cantu Exactly. For hundreds of thousands of years of human evolution, we've chosen our leaders based on an instinctive sense of who understands our emotional and political sensibilities rather than on who has the best checklist of policy proposals. Meaning, we have a general sense that Biden will govern wisely, even if he's not quite as detailed as Elizabeth Warren. Being strong yet empathetic, tough yet warm- these are universal traits that we instinctively can relate to. And, universals by their nature cannot become dated.
Dorothy (Emerald City)
I’m heading to a watch party Saturday in Washington state. Excited to support a rational, civilized, and EXPERIENCED candidate. Lots of moderates here; the far left makes a lot of noise in Seattle but the rest of this party here is rational and progressive.
