Thank you so much for this wonderful story - their place is a treasure trove of beauty and delight - you never know what you will find there... we do hand beadwork and embroidery and have worked with Warren Brand for years.......he is one of the nicest people and all the people that work there are so nice and talented and creative ........ Warren and Adam -please keep this business open forever - we need your creativity and the beauty you bring to the world and your kindness and consideration to everyone!!

What a lovely story about beauty, family, and perseverance! But did you have to say "big-bellied" in your description of Mr. Brand? That's just rude and unnecessary.

Maybe Anna Wintour knows someone who can help.

I love this New York story. I love the perseverance of the Brand family. I hope the business continues to weather the vicissitudes of fashion and the costs of manufacturing. I hope their products are enough peoples' taste to keep the business in business for years to come.

The comparison with Lesage is a stretch. Congratulations to them on preserving a dying art and may they find a way to persist. I hope their talented employees are training apprentices!

Yes. Legeron would have been a much better one.

This is nice but there are many paper flower artists who do much more beautiful work. Top of the list: Lynn Dolan.
BG (NY, NY)
@KatheM Yes, Lynn's flowers are lovely but they look like paper...maybe in a vase sitting on a table but not on clothes that move and cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Show me a bride spending a lot of money on her dress and agreeing to paper flowers...just sayin'.

@KatheM is she good enough to warrant a full page story in the New York Times? Probably not. Oh, and you missed the whole point of the story.

@KatheM Why are you comparing apples to oranges? You cannot use paper flowers to embellish wedding dresses, hats, and coats very well...

It's wonderful that a place such as this still exists. I have often, over the years, accented a dress/suit with a silk flower. A well made one is a joy to behold. I wish them well at Schmalberg!!!

Thank you for this wonderful story about art, beauty and through flowers. I hope they figure out how to stay in business. I'd love to have some of their work in my house.

I collect flower pins/ brooches of different types to accentuate the suits/ sweaters I wear. My most cherished are a collection of ceramic flowers from the 1960s. I've often tried to look for high-quality fabric flower pins: I see M and S's Camellia on Amazon. It would be great it they made a variety and put them online for sale. I'm not a fashion company but I don't think I'm the only one that collects flower pins.
