Someone ought to know that us elder white men who are sympathetic but still suspicious of the "Black Rise" are reluctant to pay to have our monoliths destroyed. Maybe stream these for free and we'll watch. If we watch, maybe we'll be moved. Think about it.

How exactly are your "monoliths" being destroyed?

@J Boyce A white man who wants a black man's labor (for creating a feature film is definitely work!) for free? I feel like we've been down this road before...

@FettSolo Ha! Yes.

Nothing against Khandi Alexander and her "my man" role in Poetic Justice, but no mention of Tyra Ferrell? Seriously?
Steve Nicolaides (Carpinteria, California)
@milagro Agreed. In both Boyz and Poetic she rocked the show

Between Spike Lee and John Singleton, my expectations of cinema differed greatly from those of my father and his generation. Whereas blackploitation movies had cast the African-American community and culture in a particular light. These directors created movies that caused me to think and discuss issues that impacted me and my peers. Sorry to see him pass so soon.

So very sad. Brilliant director. Surpassed Oscar worthiness long ago. Rest In Peace dear John

51 seems so young for such a talented and successful director to leave us. It's sad.

God bless the child director who at 20 was doing a man’s job and his work in his later years was crucial to the youth who viewed it!
