Night Owl or Early Bird

It is 6:30 in the morning, and I feel very tired. I hurry to prepare for school, and head to school at 7:30. I have to wake up, because I have a test in the morning. I start to worry, and run around to try to wake me up, and also drink a lot of water. I am a night person, but I have slowly become a morning person, because of school. I am able to become alert in time for the test, and do well. The rest of the day is smooth sailing. But my teachers always give me so much homework. So when I get home, I take a break. I know that is weird with having so much work, but me being an introvert don't have the energy to work. When I get an hour break I get to work. Luckily with me being an introvert I can now have a lot of energy, and I gain more energy while working, because I am alone while I work. I am the most productive at night. I study German, English, and Astronomy. I then, after all that studying and working, try to go to sleep, but it's hard too. I have so much energy now, and so many ideas, and thoughts going through my mind. I am like a night owl. The rest of my family are extraverts, and they always get mad at me, because I don't spend time with them, but I need to recharge, and then need to do work. Night is a super productive time for me. I love the night time, because that's when I can truly feel myself, and be more alert. It works really well, because I rather have all the energy at night for work, school and more.

I´m a night sleeper i usually wake up at like 7:45 cause my brother go to school around that time so i´m a early riser so i be ready for my day unless my brother don´t go to school i will sleep till 10:20 or something i always go to sleep a like 9:30 so yeah sometimes i get up early.
leonardo (riverdale high school)
I'm a night owl because I like to stay up all night sometimes cause I be bored so i be staying up wit someone of the phone wit someone or watching TV. In the morning i be tired and wanna go back to sleep but my mom won't let me cause it's like 10:00 in the morning.
Talia Porzio (Hoggard High School, Wilmington NC)
I've always been a night owl, from the time I was two to present day. My mom always tells me that when I was younger I would sleep all day and stay up all night. To this day I find it extremely difficult to get up in the mornings and I find it difficult to focus. Whereas at night I tend to clean my room at 12 am and do homework. I find myself being extremely productive at night. Despite the fact I know I should go to bed early so I can work well the next day I just can never fall asleep at a decent hour. Take this comment as an example, I am writing it at 10:38 pm because I'm focused and this is the time of day my brain seems to be fully functioning. If I could get to sleep at a decent hour I would like it to be no later than 10 pm. My body is exhausted by this time and if I could somehow make it to sleep before my productive hours it would prevent me from going to sleep at 1 am.
Evan Barefoot (Hoggard High School)
I prefer to stay up late rather than to wake up early. I can wake up early if I need to but I find it's more convenient to stay up late since I am already up. I stay up late on the weekends to be with my friends or to watch Netflix, so I am used to it; it is no big deal to stay up late to do work. I am the most motivated from 8pm-10pm because towards the end of the day, if my work is not done I get stressed which motivates me to get it done & I can focus easier.
Andrew Larson, Block 3 (Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC)
@Evan Barefoot Well said, I am the same way, more motivated at night as well.

I think that I am both an early bird and a night owl. I can get up early in the morning but I can stay awake in the night. When I get up early I have many things to do but I try to find time to meet my friends and relax. Sometimes of course having many things to do can take you out of the program you have. In contrast to the night where there is absolute quietness and you can easily concentrate. There are any few activities that can distract you. At night you can finish your job, you can study, watch T.V. and relax. I believe that all people are both because their schedute varies according to their obligations.
Thanasis (Thessaloniki, Greece)
During my life, I had to work either during the day or at night. Evaluating both experiences with the produced results and my level of productivity, I would consider myself as an “early bird”. For sure the society pushes us to follow this sleep cycle, however, this is something actually beneficial for all of us. Given the fact that during the day (and night) each person has a certain amount of time, it is beneficial to all of us to have some consensus about this matter. By doing so, we are able to collaborate with each other and to form all kind of interactions and intercommunication. And since our society has been significantly advantaged by this type of collaboration, I think that this consensus about our work-rest-sleep schedule is of paramount of importance.
Jenny (Athens, Greece)
Ahaha! What a controversy theme! I suppose we 've all spend hours to talk about the way we prefer to schedule our day . Personally, I would say that im an early bird. I dont find any reason to stay awake during the night and go to sleep after 1 or 2 am.Oh, I really enjoy sleeping! Why do I have to lose one or more sleeping hours? ;) I like to start my day being relaxed and fresh! I try to sleep at least 8 hours/day. This is the only way for me to be energetic and productive.
Ino (Thessaloniki, Greece)
I am a night owl since I was a child. I remember myself struggling to sleep early, without success. I had so much energy at night so I couldn't be relaxed. It was also very difficult for me to wake up early in the morning to go to school. The first hour I was always feeling sleepy and I couldn't be very concentrated. My best years, as a night owl , were at the university when I could stayed up till late without thinking waking up too early. I was more productive the late hours and I remember that I was staying awake and reading or writing my essays till late. I was always feeling more creative at night .
Christine (Greece)
By nature I am a night owl. Since I was student at secondary school I remember myself stay awake at night and study. I prefer studying in night when everything is so quiet and clam and there are no disturbances, so I can hear only my thoughts or nothing. For me, after 11:00pm is the most productive time, I am fast thinker and more creative. Unfortunately, the last months due to my job, I have to wake up too early at 05:45am every morning. At the beginning, this is the most difficult part of my job, but I am already getting used to it. Furthermore, I discover the beauty of watching the sunrise and planning my day. In general, I think that our society is more friendly to the early birds because the majority of jobs start early in the morning. However, nowadays some steps are made in the direction of giving the opportunity to night owls to work at the time they prefer. Many companies, especially for jobs not related to customer service, give the opportunity to their employees to choose the start time of their jobs inside a time period. This possibility, not only make the society more adjusted to each one of us, but also increase our productivity.
Dimitra (Greece)
@Christine you can hear only your thoughts or nothing--awesome!
zoi (gr)
Personally, i am an early bird taken the fact that i have to wake up at 7 am. In fact, i think that during morning i am more productive because i am not tired and i have fresh eyes. In the mornings i like making a schedule and arranging my tasks. On the other hand in the afternoons i have the need of relaxing and meeting my friends. Generally, i think that our society is more adjusted to the program of early birds because the majority of jobs start early morning.
Dimitra (Greece)
@zoi Nice comment, Zoe! yep Our society follows the early birds' rhythm for better or worse!
Dimitra (Greece)
When I was at university I used to be a night owl but now I have to wake up very early. If I could, I would prefer to stay up late. It's beautiful for me to wake up with the sun. I have the opportunity to schedule the daily programme, to relax, to meet friends but I can't go to bed early and most of the days I feel tired. I think the hours between 9-12pm I'm most alert and clever. I prefer to spend that hour for studying or jogging or working on something important. I think society is built for early birds. If I could build my own schedule, I would like to go to bed at 01:30 am and wake up at 8:00 am. Now I usually go to bed at 12:30
Dimitra (Greece)
@Dimitra Oh, i see! sometimes we are forced to live like early birds even though we actually are night owls ^-^
Eleni (Greece)
I used to be a night owl few years ago. I felt more productive after 22:00 because i could do stuff without disturbances. When i was student at university, I used to study late at night in exam periods. There are so calm and peace at night. On the other hand, this period of my life i am an early bird. I like to wake up early at 08:00 am o’clock. In this way i have a lot of time ahead until go to sleep. I drink a coffee and schedule how to pass my day! I love sunny days and i don’t want to miss them because of sleeping. Eventually, somedays i prefer to wake up early in the morning and others to enjoy the silence at night. It will be perfect for me if i could sleep only 4-5 hours, form 03:00 am until 8:00 am. But, unfortunately when i do this for more than 3 days i feel very tired.
Dimitra (Greece)
@Eleni Oh i can see another night owl by nature!Lovely ^-^
Tamsie Black (Hoggard High School)
In my opinion I do believe society is meant to accommodate your sleep schedule overall, most people's jobs take place in the mornings and most activities in society all occur during the day because people sleep at night. But I would consider myself night owl however I do wish I was more of an early bird. This is because when I wake up early in the mornings everything is so calm and there's nothing bothering me just peace and quiet it gives me my own time and the early sun just sets this relaxed mood. Also in the mornings I wake up early I find myself having a lot more of a productive day and I tend to be happier with a high energy level I also find myself being friendlier to everyone around me even strangers. However when I stay up late I find myself grumpy and slow and i'm usually a lot quieter and i don't interact with the people around me as much as I would if I got a good start to my day. That is why I prefer being the early bird over the night owl any day.
Ashley Stein (J.T Hoggard)
I would consider myself to be both an early bird and a night owl. They both have there own pros and cons. When I wake up early I get more stuff done and fell energized and more productive. When I stay up really late I’m always tried and cranky the next day but at night I don’t usually get much done because I’m easily destracted and find other stuff to do instead like browse the internet. So I I would prefer to wake up early but that doesn’t always happen.
Olivia Williams (Glen Ellyn)
I am a night owl. I like when it quite and of course at night it’s quite because most people are sleeping. I also like night time, because you don’t have to do anything. You have no stress, and you can finally relax. I think I am more creative at night because I have time to actually think about that thing. Also you have more y8me to complete that project. I like to just relax at night. Sitting on my couch and watching Netflix. I think I personally set my sleep schedule. I fall asleep whenever I start to get tired. If I could pick the times to fall asleep and wake up I would choose to fall asleep at random times (whenever I get tired), and then to wake up at 10:30am. I love to sleep in but that’s probably becuase I fall asleep very late at night or super early in the morning (1 or 2am).
Selby (Florida)
I consider myself a night owl. As an artist I find that 3 am is my favorite time because, in my opinion, it is the most creative hour. I love painting at 3 in the morning. During that time my world is quiet and at peace, my family isn't awake, and I can really focus and enjoy myself. During the day there are so many responsibilities and things we must do it gets overwhelming. During the night when everyone is asleep I am not required to do anything for anyone and its great. However I also like sleeping because I love dreaming. When I dream I am in control and I can live in a different reality for a while, it’s really incredible. Over the summer I get to stay up late and then sleep in. If I could build my own sleep schedule I would go to bed around 4-5 am and sleep until 12. Unfortunately for school I have to wake up at 5 in the morning which is ridiculous.
Lizzy (Illinois)
I consider myself a night owl. I often struggle trying to go to bed anywhere from 9-12. I think that I work best during later hours because I’m not as distracted. I’m able to focus better and get work done, but the common day-to-day schedule prevents me from doing so. I have to go to bed by 11 to be able to get up on time for school the next morning, and I usually end up feeling more exhausted the earlier I go to sleep. On the other hand, I do enjoy my sleep time, so the schedule of getting up early for school is very inconvenient for me. If I could build my own schedule I would go to sleep around 1:00-2:00am, and wake up at 9:00-10:00am.
Matthew (Chicago, IL)
I’m a night owl by complete mishap. I absolutely hate staying up late on weekday nights, because I find myself helplessly wandering towards the limits of human imagination while also coming up with entirely counterfeit scenarios of past or future events. My body wakes up naturally at around 7am in days that I know I need to get up early on. The catch is, waking up anytime before 7am might as well be waking me up while I am in deep, therapeutic sleep. Literally at 6:50am, I am exponentially more distasteful than I am at 7:10am. It’s almost scary. Why do I walk such a fine line between sheer disappointment and happy go-lucky. I actually enjoy getting up early so that I can get things done and be productive. That’s pretty much it. As for staying up late, I usually just get intoxicatingly bored from tv and hope to sleep in as long as possible to avoid the same result the next day. I think if one thing in this world NEEDS to improve, its the human sleep cycle and how to effectively wake up without being in distress of some way, shape, or form.
Bella (Glen Ellyn, Il)
I personally prefer to wake up early. After coffee, I am the happiest and most motivated from 7am-1pm. If I could be doing anything at these hours it would be dancing or working out. At night I become impatient for the next day to come unless I am going out that night. In general, my brain functions much more efficiently in the morning then at night. As Benjamin Franklin once said “Early to be and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” and I could not agree more.
Sam (New York)
I would much rather go to bed late and wake up early because I think sleep is a waste of time. But I can't do that because I get tired and can't think and grumpy and it's not fun at all. So I would rather go to bed earlier and wake up early. If I can get things done early while no one is awake it is extra hours of the day for me. Sleeping feels like a waste of time but I would be absolutely miserable without it.
Adam (Media)
I personally really enjoy the night time. Night time is the best time to be awake and having fun. Summer nights are especially good for that. The day time is good too. Day time is only good sometimes though. It is less fun depending on the activity. Summer nights are best spent out and about having plenty of fun with friends and making memories. During the normal day where i have to go to school and conform to the social norms, it does not effect me staying up late. Being up late just effects me waking up early and on time for school.
Josh (Media)
I personally like a mixture of both because there is many benefits for both
Leah (Glen Ellyn, IL)
Personally, I prefer staying up late. Of course, waking up early is nice because then I have a longer day ahead of me, but i’ve noticed that I am more productive at night. Over the summer, or winter breaks, I would stay up until 6 or 7 AM every night. Since I’m an artist, I would spend those hours finishing art pieces. Some of my best work was done in the middle of the night. I think it’s because those are the times when i am completely alone. Everyone in my family is sleeping, and so are most of my friends. I don’t have any distractions, that way it is a lot easier to think.
Taylor (Glen Ellyn, Illinois )
I am definitely a night owl. I don’t necessarily know why though, but I’m never tired when everyone else is so I just stay awake. And hearing all of the information about night owls kind of scares me, but interests me a little. Them saying that people who stay up longer have a chance of not living as long as people who wake up early in the morning is interesting to me. I don’t know if a truly believe that but if this is true I’d definitely start waking up more earlier and going to bed earlier as well. I did know that not a big part of society wakes up or likes to wake up early but I do agree that we are somewhat jealous of those type of people. They seem to look like they have their life figured out, and people that stay up late you think of them as not caring because they seem like they’re not worried about their schedule for the early next day. But obviously that isn’t the case, because some people might actually be worrying so much about the the next day, that that’s the reason why they’re still awake while everyone else is asleep.
Emily Sampson (Media, PA)
As a night owl, I feel as if I am constantly exhausted. But I have to stay up late. Staying up late is truly what is best for me. I find myself having a hard time falling asleep around 9, 10, or even 11 if I'm not exhausted from the day before. Late at night is when I am most creative. I could spend hours writing at night. I would stay up all night if I didn't have to wake up at six a.m. to wake up for school. I just don't have the right schedule to live the night owl life I desire. I know a few schools in my area have decided to push-back school starting time. I wish my school would do that. I know when we have delays for snow an enormous amount of people feel so refreshed and perform better in school that day. If I could build my own sleep schedule, I would probably go to bed around 12 or 1 and wake up closer to 9 or 10. I know my body physically won't let me sleep past 7 anymore because of my school schedule. Who knows? Maybe I'll forever be one of the most tired people on the earth.
Henry (Delco Pa)
I personally am a morning person and I agree with the notion that morning people generally are more motivated and do better in life. I usually wake up around 5:30am 6 days a week; sometimes all 7 (school during the week, and work on the weekends). I have no problem getting myself out of bed in the morning and getting started with my day. I would consider myself pretty successful. I get decent grades in school, and have a huge motivation to go to work and earn money. On the other hand My sister is a late riser and she is a total failure in life. She usually does not wake up earlier than 8 or 9 am whenever possible, and she had no job and almost zero discipline. I feel like early riser generally do better in life; some of the most punctual people in life get up at the crack of dawn. I hate being late, and I absolutely cannot stand when other people are late when I am involved. For years many people got up early and society was much better off. Now all of the sudden we have people waking up at noon regularly and its the complete opposite.
Alexa (Danvers, MA)
I would consider myself as a night owl, because after 8:00 pm I'm the most alerted and creative, furthermore I like being awake when everybody else in the house is sleeping, that's when I'm able to calm down, but still be productive, give free rein to my thoughts and dream my day dreams. For me the time when it's dark and quiet and I know everybody is sleeping is the most peaceful time. In Germany I would even sometimes go outside for a walk, or just simply sit outside in our backyard and read, or go swimming in our pool in summertime. At night I always feel like time has stopped, because nothing is moving, everything came to rest and the atmosphere lulls me into tranquility. Nevertheless I still wake up very early before sunrise so I'll be on time for school, I'm not an early bird, but when I'm not too tired I still can find beauty in the break of dawn, it's a peaceful atmosphere as well, but has always something exciting in it, because I know this is the beginning of a new day, a new chance, not knowing what will come and the whole city is slowly waking up, everything starts moving and time is turned back on again. The morning atmosphere can be full of expectation and thirst for action. And the point between night and day, silence and shouting voices, rest and movement always feels like the short peaceful calm before the great storm.
Dillon McDermott (Danvers, MA)
I wouldn't say that I prefer to either stay up late or wake up early in the morning, but I don't mind waking up early; and I certainly can not stay up too late. I am most alert during the middle of the day and in the afternoon, not so much in the morning. I like to spend most of my hours either with my friends, or just relaxing at home; but my best productive hours during the afternoons usually need to be spent doing homework or studying. I feel that society is built to accommodate my sleep schedule. Most people have a typical "9-5" job, and I tend to naturally wake up at about 8 in the morning. If I could make my own schedule, I would prefer to go to bed at 9:30 and be able to wake up at 7:30, that way I can get a sufficient amount of sleep.
David Wang (J.R. Masterman Philadelphia, PA)
I think that whether you are a night owl or an early bird entirely depends on your schedule of the day. If you have school, chances are you are not going to sleep too early. But if the next day is Saturday or Sunday, you can choose to stay up or get up early. There's no way of knowing when exactly something's going to mess with your schedule(although you can try to prevent them), so there isn't a lot of control of when you are going to bed and waking up. However, I have been able to control my sleep pattern to a semi-early bird state, because I really don't like doing a lot of homework or studying after a long day of school. I also feel like that if I have a test or a quiz, I remember more info if I study early in the morning than late at night. That's probably because of the sleep I get. So I would consider myself as an early bird most of the time. I spend most of my hours either at school during the week, or playing games on the weekends. I have other activities too, like sports or reading, but mostly it's that. You just easily get into a routine that helps you maintain a simple and broad daily schedule easily, especially if you are a student.
Gabriela Ferullo (Danvers, Massachusetts)
I don't really consider myself neither a night owl nor an early bird. Both the amount of time I sleep and when I sleep heavily rely on my schedule that day of the week. Unlike people who have nightly sleep schedules, I feel I have weekly sleep schedules I stick to. For example, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays my activities don't end until later in the evening. On these days I typically take a short nap after school, and then return to my bed around midnight after I get home shower and do my homework. However, on Wednesday my activities start earlier, so I don't usually take a nap after school. I get home much earlier and get to bed by ten. I respectfully disagree with the part in the article that says that early birds tend to be better students and more successful. On the days when I don't have school or work, I do not rise early at all. I usually will wake up around eleven-thirty. I am not an early bird but I still feel I am a very successful student. Sleep does play a big part in people's ability to function, but personally a lack of it does not affect my work ethic. I think wanting to be successful motivates me to the point where my tiredness will simply melt away.
Jack Murray (Danvers, MA)
I prefer to get to bed later, and I'm sure a lot of teenagers would agree with me. Logically, I should get to bed early--teens should get over nine hours of sleep, and for me that'd mean going to bed before 9:00 pm. I'd certainly like to be able to get this amount of sleep, don't get me wrong. With the amount of homework I get in my classes, however, it's nearly impossible to do my homework, eat dinner, and get to bed on time before I'm actually able to have free time to do the things I want to do. The starting time for high schools is a difficult topic--on one hand, an earlier starting time means more time after school to do homework. On another, this earlier starting time means teens don't get nearly enough sleep. A later start time would get teens a bit more time to sleep, but it would result in less after-school time to do homework. There isn't a perfect balance, and there couldn't be unless there were 4 more hours in a day. That being said, being forced to get up early is probably good for me (and other high-schoolers) to train ourselves for the future. 9-5 jobs require you to get up early, and if teens weren't forced to do so for school, their sleep schedule would detriment them for years.
Kathleen Dawe (Massachusetts)
I find that the majority of nights I stay up late mainly because I can’t fall asleep and other times because I have homework that I need to get done. I am definitely more of a night owl myself and do my best thinking at night and am usually a lot more productive during that time. I tend to spend my nights either doing homework or just relaxing by playing piano. I go to school Mondays through Fridays and have to wake up at 6:30 am each morning. It takes a while for me to become fully awake and alert and it’s usually not until first block until I’m able to focus. I do think that society has a more early bird driven schedule but I don’t think that that is necessarily a bad thing. Although I don’t like waking up that early in the morning, in the end it is good because then I don’t have to be worried about sleeping my day away which is what usually happens on the weekends.
Mackenzie Thompson (Danvers, MA)
I personally do not consider myself a night owl or an early bird. In the morning my first alarm is at 6:30, but I don't get myself out of bed until about 7:00. At night, I go up to my room after dinner, around 7pm, to have time to myself and unwind before I shower and fall asleep; usually before 10pm. I don't like staying up late, or waking up early. I mostly just like to sleep. In middle school, I'd come home after school, do my homework, and immediately fall asleep after, only to wake to my mom telling me dinner is ready. I guess you could argue that I'm not much of a day person either. During the time I am awake, I go to school, go to work, or go to sports. I go home, eat dinner, do homework, and sleep. The next day, I wake up and repeat the same schedule over again, like I've been set on autopilot. Though I've learned to spend most of the day awake, I don't feel like my body has officially woken up until about 10am, and it starts to go back to sleep around 5pm.
Jackson Desmond (Danvers, Massachusetts)
I am definitely an Night Owl, I personally think that most creative people are more prone to staying up later because, it's a time where it is quieter and inspiration can come and go as it pleases without interruptions. Not only that, but it's a time where everything slows down and seems way less urgent than what is experienced during the day. I find Night to be safer (as crazy as that sounds. Mainly because nothing is exposed, including you so you don't have to worry about public and/or societal perceptions. I feel like when I nap during the day and stay up later into the night my ideas for new art projects or anything like that come way more frequently and they are far better than anything I could imagine in school or my day to day life. I don't need much sleep to work effectively in school or my place of employment so I use that as an advantage when I want to stay up into the late hours of the night (and most times, early hours of the morning). Night seems less stressful because it is a period of transition from the current day to the next. Where as the daytime seems more stressful because it entails new beginnings and experiences that we may or may not be prepared for. Day time is way more demanding and draining, which is why we sleep at night (I know mind blowing right? I'm a genius no need to tell me). But I guess matters like these are more individualistic and comes down to personal preferences.
Tom Walfield (Danvers, Massachusetts)
I do not consider myself a night owl or an early bird. I go to bed around 9:30. And I cannot get myself up at 530 or 6 in the morning. My body naturally wakes up around 730-8 am, and I am tired right around 9 pm. I do not understand why people enjoy to stay up late. There is nothing to do at that time of day, and no one can be that productive at such a late hour. If I was to consider myself an early bird or night owl, I lean towards Early Bird, and I feel as if I am most effective in the morning. Right when I wake up, I enjoy going to the gym and working out, however with school I can't lift until after last period. I do not feel as if society is built around my sleep schedule, and I feel as if society ruins my natural schedule.
Sam (Providence, Rhode Island)
I, along with most other teenagers I assume, am a definite Night Owl. I am so much of a night owl that I regularly stay up to Midnight. Considering I go to bed around midnight and wake up around 7, I usually get 7-6 hours of sleep, which is 2-3 hours below the recommended amount. I think I should be going to bed early, but the reason I don't is because I don't want the day to end, I try to make the most of my time. I'm usually most alert during 11-2 o'clock and usually feel most productive during those times. I feel that society is definitely not built around my sleep schedule, but that's okay because society shouldn't be built around my terrible sleep schedule.
Xavier (Providence, RI)
Personally, I am more of a night person than a morning person. At night, I feel like I can get more things done because there aren't as many distractions during the day. While the rest of society sleeps, I usually stay up and focus on things that need to get done rather than what I want to get done. Being a night owl has its perks but there are also side effects. One good thing about being a night owl is being able to stay up long hours and working on something without taking a break. I usually work until 10:30 doing homework or school work and go to bed by 11:30. The side effect from this is I don't get the necessary hours of sleep needed but it also doesn't help that I get a few hours work of homework and start school very early in the morning. If my schedule was adjusted to fit my personal clock, I would take classes at night and have the daytime to work on things because this is when I am most focused and able to do my work.
Lola Adebayo (Providence, RI)
I think I am mostly a early riser, but it depends on the circumstances. For example, I wake up at 6:15 am during the week and on the weekend I tend to stay up. The reason why I am an early riser is because I have to get ready for school. I have a morning routine so I'm not late to school. Being an early riser has benefits like getting more hours of sleep and being ready on time.
Casey Masterson (Danvers, MA)
Personally, I prefer staying up late after everyone else has gone to sleep. I believe I am most productive at night. A large contribution to my unproductivity is distractions and at night they are minimized. Since everyone has already gone to sleep, there is no need to constantly check my phone or call up a friend to talk. I have the opportunity to do what needs to be done, such as cleaning my room or doing my homework. However, staying up late surely has its drawbacks. It becomes harder to wake up and get out of bed in the morning due to the lack of sleep from staying up late. Because of this, I am less alert during the day and have less energy. Recently, I have been waking up before the sun rises to go to the gym. This has given me more energy throughout the day and has kept me focused during school. Although, I have developed a routinely scheduled nap time after school, waking up early has improved my overall health. If school started later in the day, I would feel less apt to wake up early and would likely have later nights. Despite this sounding appealing, I believe it would not help me in the long run health-wise.

I like going to bed late, it doesn't affect me as much because I'm simply used to going to bed at a certain time late at night. At night I do a lot more than usual because I have more time to do things for myself without my family being on my back during the day. I'm mostly never sleepy unless I get less than 5 hours, but if I can sleep a little more than that I have more than enough energy for the whole day. Waking up early is the real problem however, but I usually get over it as I will myself to wake up. I usually like to watch movie analyzation videos late at night as it helps me get creative when I start to edit the videos I filmed in the day, or listen to music in order to get some motivation to make music of my own.
