Libelu (San Pedro)
One learner thinks the roof is breaking because the kids are worried. Another learner thinks that the kids are talking in Zoom because some are paying attention and they are watching something. The teacher is planning an activity. Another learner sees a girl.
Jaina (Ottawa ON)
Children who look to be about 7-9 years old are in a classroom. The teacher is not paying attention to them. The kids are all sitting on desks, standing on chairs and crowding together staring up at something. I don't think it's a whiteboard, chalkboard, screen or a person that they're looking at. They all look excited and some are holding up two fingers/peace signs. Because of all this I don't think it's a normal school day.
Cadejah Adams (Mx Dudley's - PHS)
From what I can see, these students are being captured in a photo where they are watching something. They look excited like this is not something they do often. They are pointing at something. A boy is tilting his head to see something properly. I also see that the teacher is by herself so the students are doing something that the teacher isn't involved in. The children seem to be from Mexico.
Kim (Mx.Dudley's Class)
I say that the kids are poor and can’t even receive proper education because the kids are all crowded up in the middle trying to take notes.
Ari #2 (Mx.Dudley's class)
I believe this picture is showing a group of students taking a picture together. I say this because the students are grouped together and some of them are smiling and holding up peace signs. I can also see desks which is why I say they are a group of students.
Jada (Mx. Dudley's Class)
If you take a quick glance at this picture, one would assume that these are kids watching a video of some sorts in a classroom. But based on some children posing and others either listening or staring in confusion, I can infer that these children aren’t watching a video, but instead are either in a zoom type call where they can see themselves. One can only assume that these children are on a zoom call with someone important or famous. This could be happening anywhere, but my guess is that this takes place somewhere in Latin America.
Ziona (Mx Dudley’s class)
Based on the picture I can infer that the students are talking to a very famous person on a projector screen. What makes me say that is because they seem to interact with whoever they are looking at in front of them. I also see the excitement on their faces and how some of them look surprised. I see that some of them left their school supplies and backpacks down just to come to the front of the class to interact with the person which makes me think it is a famous person.
Af (wisconsin)
i think these kids are looking at something to do with school because they are really looking at the picture that "could " be on the bored and it looks like they are holding up the number to maybe to count how many people there are or objects that are on the bored.
Mr. Harp (Georgia)
I think that they are in a classroom taking pictures. I know this because I see desks and bookbags.
Christiana (Germany)
I think that the kids in the picture are taking a photo with a smartboard in their class. The see a smartboard for the first time in their lifes and are surpised. Some of the kids are also taking a pose for the photo, we can see that , because some of them are doing the peace symbol.
Henri Ma (Hong Kong)
I think they're watching a sports match or something. The reason is that I have the same kind of face expression when I'm watching a basketball game.In the picture the kids are focused and are obsessed about the things they're watching.Their eyes are gonna pop out if they kept doing this. They are holding a "V"sign though they're not looking to the camera. They are probably focusing on the match and ignoring the camera man.
Rebekah (Cordova)
Mrs. Cordova's first grade science class infers that the students are posing for a classroom picture.
Christine (Greece)
In this photo we can see some elementary school students, probably Latinos. They are in a classroom but they are not sitting in their chairs, instead of this they are gathering in the center of the classroom and are looking at something which is high. When I first had seen the image I had thought that maybe somebody is taking them a photo, probably with a drone based on the height they are looking at. I believed this mainly due to the children in the center of the photo, who are giving others bunny ears and also doing peace signs, something that we mainly do when somebody take us photo. But when I had a closer look, I noticed the expression of all students and I would say that they are probably watching something. Something which is very interesting as they seem so excited and very absorbed on what they see, giving their teacher the opportunity to do some work.
Marina (Greece)
There is a group of students. They live in Africa. They're watching on the board and they look excited. Maybe they're doing online classes. The boys are more excited. Maybe is something more interesting for boys like football.
Alex,Santi,Judith y Cata. (Madrid,Spain,)
It is likely that they are students of primary of a school. The school probably is of a poor country, like Philippines or something like that. They might be seeing the whiteboard and they are trying to answer the question, that the teacher is asking they.We think that the students are looking to the teacher that she is infront of the students. Also she could asking they a mathematic calculation. All the students seems that they are thinking about the question, and they are very gathered. Our picture is related with the SDG of "QUALITY EDUCATION" but this is not the perfect example of that.In this photo we can seee that is a poor school,so this is why we related this photo with this SDG.
Hugo (Spain)
In this image we see a class that likes to leran and wants to learn, they seem to be doing some kind of math exercise. SDG We think that this images something to do with the quality education SDG (Number 4).In this picture we can see the class were they are is not of a good quality class. We think that according to the class quality the rest of the school is not very good quality either. Although we see that the class is not in a very good condition, the kids look quite happy.
Lia (Athens)
I can see some students who are staring at something on the top of the classroom. They are excited about it. Maybe there is a bird in the classroom or they are whatching something else
Hugo (Spain)
@Lia I agree with you and they are certanly stering at sonething, but as some students are holding their hands up with a number 2, maybe they are watching some kind of math video.
Judith (Spain)
@Lia I agree but I do not think it's a bird I think it's an activity that they like a lot or something like that
Ms. Beasley's Class (Texas)
We think this is a group of students interacting with something or someone. We think the students could be doing something with math, as they seem to be showing numbers with their fingers. They might be doing a project or watching something or seeing a picture on a screen. They may also be showing responses or votes. We wonder if they are in art class because of the materials.
Jenifer barrera (Los angeles)
I can see a class of young children studying that they may be seeing something from the class that may be photos or film that is related to the class
Hugo (Spain)
@Jenifer barrera I think this is a group of students interacting with something or someone. I think the students could be doing something with math, as they are showing numbers with their fingers.
Ms Gates (Chicago)
In this photo we see a group of students in a classroom. They are looking at a board. The students are trying to solve a math problem. We think this because the students are putting their fingers in the air.
Alejandro (Spain,Madrid)
@Ms Gates Hello Ms Gates, I completely agree with you.You are absolutely right. I think that they are solving a mathematic calculation too. So this is why they are putting their fingers on the air showing to the teacher.
zoi (gr)
In this photo we can see some students who are in a classroom and they are staring at something there. It is obvious that most children seem excited about what they are watching. Maybe it is something really interesting for them because they look frozen at their seats. Some children make signs with their hands so we can realize that they try to interact and express their support.
Jenifer barrera (Los angeles)
@zoi I agree
Jordan (Boone)
This photo shows a classroom of students looking up to something. They either see themselves do to their expressions or they are talking to someone else. They seem to enjoy it and maybe they do not experience this that often. Some seem to be giving others bunny ears and others seem to be giving peace signs.
Josiah Ford (Boone, NC)
In the photo it seems to be a classroom of children that may be video chatting with someone. Many of the students appear to be excited and others seem to be more on the astounded, or confused, side of things. So, may not be something that they do very often.
Irene (Spain)
@Josiah Ford Hi I see in this photo a student look the nothing and are some student look the camera. And some look the balckboard, i don't know what are they doing.
Hannah D. (Boone)
This seems to be a photo of children in a classroom at school. The classroom seems small and it looks like some of the children are struggling to see things from the back. I think this classroom is in an area with a lack of importance in education.
Alex (Boone, North Carolina)
In this photo, it seems as though a group of students in a classroom are peering up to perhaps a screen that is on a higher level. Several of the students seem captivated by the technology. Perhaps the students can see themselves on the screen as some raise up peace signs and are smiling.
Allison (Boone, NC)
In this photo, the kids are encouraging one another and excited to learn. It is touching because I know, personally when I was this age, I went to school because I had to. In this way, my generation is very spoiled. The kids in this photo were probably extremely interested in whatever was being taught. In classrooms of this size, it can be difficult for teachers to keep the attention of every student in the room so this is impressive. I also notice that a lot of the students are very diverse in appearance, clothing, and attitude.
Hannah D. (Boone)
It seems as though these children are in a classroom that is small and has a high student teacher ratio. I think this is in an area where there is a lack of importance in education.
Nicole (Boone)
It looks like these kids are excited to participate in school. The classroom is crowded, so it may display a lack of education in the area.
Hugo (Spain)
@Nicole I agree with you and it seems like they are voting or solving a math question.
Cassidy T. (Boone)
These are students learning in a classroom. They look very eager to learn and intrigue about what they are being taught. By the looks of the desks and the classroom they are in, i think this school is in a low income area.
Isabelle (pcs)
I think that maybe they are looking at something or getting their picture taking as some of them in the back are posing
Yarleny (New York city)
I saw some kids watching a video on something is a lot of kids.
Shiyu (Staten Island)
This photograph make me think that why they’re taking pictures, because there’s no camera in the picture.
ned (australia)
in my professional opinion, i do strongly agree with bryce here
Bryce (Australia)
A headline for this specific topic in my opinion could be "Malaysian education department finally provide school in small town"
ned (australia)
@Bryce in my professional opinion, i do strongly agree with bryce here he is very smart and wise and i thank him for that.
ned (australia)
i think that these kids are watching a tutorial or engaging video on the bored, while the teacher is marking tests
Lily (Bergenfield)
I think this picture is about students that are answering a question on the board because they are all looking at the board. I also notice that the teacher isn't paying attention to the kids. I think the teacher is grading papers or tests and using a calculator for the answer or texting somebody on her phone.
King Isaac (South Florida)
I see they are putting up peace signs because they are saying goodbye at school.
Larissa (Pcs)
There are many students, they are different races, and i think that they are all either getting their picture taken because some students are making peace signs or they are watching t.v. because they are looking up
Catalina (spain)
@Larissa I agree with you in the way that they are students of different races. But I think they are solving a problem that the teacher ask them
Diego (Dillon, Colorado)
the childrens are loking up put why there loking up they myt take a pthoto of congratulations
Bianca Flores m. (Dillon valley elementry)
In my opinion, these children are in a school somewhere other than America. I think they are in a different country because they have different types of desks and all of the students have the same skin color. Maybe they are from Mexico. Next, I think these students are in second grade. I think they are taking a picture because I see them smiling and making silly faces. They are also making peace signs, which I like to do when I take a picture, sometimes. Finally, I notice all of the students, except for one are looking in the same direction. The one student who is not looking in the same direction, is looking right at the person who took this photo.
Hannah (School )
In this picture I see a class holding up the awnser to a question I think this because their is backpacks and kids are holding up twos an threes
Savannah (School )
I think this is a group of kids at school that are about to take a photo because some of the kids are smiling and holding up ✌️
Rylee (Belton MS/FC)
I think this picture was taken in a classroom and the students are coloring. I think the kids are looking at the board to see how to do it. I see some kids with two fingers up, maybe the teacher asked them a question.
Annie (School)
The kids are looking at the teacher who put something on the bored and the teacher to hold up the number 2 on there fingers and some kids are confused on what she meant and some are not at all
Tracey (School)
In this picture I think that the kids are looking at something it might be the teacher or the board. I see the kids looking in front. The kids are holding up there fingers and they are smiling.
Isabelle (pcs)
@Tracey very well. they could also be watching a video on something or taking a picture
Tracey (School)
In this picture I see kids looking in the front I think they might be looking at the teacher or the board. The kids are looking in the front. The kids are holding up there fingers and they are smiling. They are in a classroom learning about something.
daniel (vermont)
i think that they are looking at something on the wall or on a tv.
cole nelson (pcs)
they are watching the super bowl and cheering on the patriots who the know will always win. this school seems very cool as there are tvs in the class room.
Reeee (Reee)
There watching the fortnite pro AM’s
Class 4K (Lakenham)
HB thinks that this is a classroom because he can see scissors, a pencil case and a desk. He thinks that the children are having fun. LBS thinks that they are posing for a class picture because they are all doing the peace sign and facing the same way. IW thinks that they are answering a question in Maths because they are holding two fingers up to show the number two. BC thinks that these children are having a class party because it looks like there is snow outside the window and it looks like they have been having fun. BJ thinks that these children are in a country at war and they are having their lesson. JK thinks that they might be watching a video because all the children are facing the same way. ST thinks that these children are at a summer camp but it has started to snow outside. He thinks that they are at a camp because they have backpacks and boxes with snacks in. SK thinks that they are having wet play because it is dark outside the window. YS thinks that they are having an art lesson because he can see lots of pieces of paper and different pens and pencils. Miss Pantry thinks that these children are in their classroom and are learning about something really exciting. They might be watching a video or their teacher doing something funny and crazy!
Jordan (St. Paul, MN)
In this image, some school children are gathered in a classroom and looking at something. I think that they are talking to another person or group through their school’s projector. It could be another school or a group of researchers as part of a school project. I think this is a recent image, because the kids are wearing modern clothes and the quality of the photo. I’m guessing this was taken around 2010. think this took place in Hawaii, because one of the kid’s shirts says Fort Weaver, which is in Hawaii.
Madison (NC)
In this picture, I think a game is being played in a classroom. Students are looking up at a screen which is leading the game. The teacher is sitting to the side of the classroom doing work. I think this because, based off their facial expressions, the students are enthused about what they are doing and seem to be in a competitive spirit.
Larissa (Pcs)
@Madison I agree
Erin Medlock (NC)
These children look like they are in a classroom looking at a screen, maybe taking a picture, talking to someone else or playing a game. They all have different emotions. Some of the kids look like they are having fun and some like they are confused.
Gracie (NC)
Children from a foreign country are posing for a picture because they are doing peace signs. They are looking up because the photographer is standing on a chair to get them all in the picture.
Kenley (NC)
@Gracie I agree, that this is possible, this is a different way to think about things!
Jaden McLean (Dallas, NC)
The children seem to be watching and responding to some sort of video chat or posing for a photograph. Most likely taken in a foreign country (Central or South America, possibly Spain)
Owen Russell (Missouri City, TX)
I think these kids are using some sort of internet communication like face time. Because they are looking up and making facial expressions. I can also see a teacher looking on her phone.
Savannah (NC)
I think the kids shown in this picture are playing a game because they are all looking in the same direction and some of them are holding two fingers in the air. You can also see that the teacher could be grading papers in the back and letting her students play a game to keep them occupied.
Kenley (NC)
@Savannah This is what I thought. I agree that the teacher was trying to find a way to keep the students busy.
Alexzander (Poway USD)
This picture looks like there are kids in a classroom and learning something that is in the front. The classroom looks used and tarnished however the kids look excited and cheerful to be fortunate to learn, but the environment is poor. Mexico 2010
Harley (nc)
I think the children are either taking a class photo, or on a video call with someone. The way that they are looking up makes it seem like they are looking at a screen or camera. The teacher sitting at her desk, not watching the children leads me to believe that it is a video call with an adult who is leading the class in some kind of activity.
Blake (NC)
It is apparent that they are in a school classroom. They are perhaps in an elementary school somewhere outside of the US based on their ethnicity at first glance. The students appear to be reciting or reading something aloud as a group. Their hands are up in some form of a sign or signal. One student appears to be holding a book in his hands.
Kenley (NC)
The kids all look like they are the same age and the same ethnicity. They are looking up at something, maybe a lesson or guessing game on a board, since some of them are holding up fingers. The teacher appears to be grading papers, so maybe she just stuck a game or interactive video on the board to keep the children occupied.
Nathan Guidry (San Diego, California)
I think that the children are just getting their first picture taken. They seem to be less fortunate in terms of how much income there is, sitting on the poverty line because of the state of the building. I think it is recently, about 2010 to 2015 due to the fashion of the clothes. I think that it takes place somewhere in South America because it does look like the state of the buildings is poor, which leads me to believe that they live in a third world country.
angelo reyes (poway)
they may be in mexico because they students look a little Hispanic so that could be true. it probably some time in the 2000s and why because one of the students has vans on so that could also be a clue. they are maybe taking a picture because they are throwing up piece signs so that probably what they are doing.
Alicia (Poway)
This is a classroom full of kids, classroom because of the desks and school supplies out. These kids appear to be Hispanic I think this because the kid in the front is wearing a jersey of some sort. I think that someone is taking a picture of them. They look like they are all looking up and some kids are putting up a peace sign as its being taken. Taken maybe sometime in early 2000s.
Caleb (Africa)
The kids all look either puzzled or stoked about whatever they're seeing also many of them are throwing peace signs. It looks like a classroom cause all of them are around the same age and they have school supplies on there desks. They also have pretty modern cloths on so they're not poor.
Jackson (NC)
This picture looks like a classroom full of kids from probably another country, with their teacher or another adult not paying them much attention. I think they are playing some type of game, because some of the kids are holding up numbers and looking into a book. They are all looking up, so it is likely they are doing something on some type of screen or white board.
Jacob (Dallas, NC)
I think that the children are looking at a photographer because some of them are holding up peace signs, and the one in the front looks like he's trying to make a funny face at the camera and the teacher doesn't seem to care.
English Therapy (Vigo, Spain)
We have different thoughts on this picture... We think they are a group of South american kids, based on their skin tone. They could be watching educational interactive videos on a smart-board. The fact that the teacher is not really involved in the class activity may be because she is a substitute teacher and that's why she is not that committed with the class. They could also be posing for a picture. They are looking at someone who is playing with them and they could be showing with their fingers the right answer. They are making a videocall with a person who is telling them about their profession and they seem to be really excited because it is a profession they really like, such as an astronaut. They could be participating in an art contest and they are voting for their favourite drawing and the teacher may be counting their votes.
Mrs. Connett's 3rd Grade (Coconut Grove, FL)
We notice there are many children crowded into a classroom. They are raising their hands and giving peace signs. The teacher is doing work and not paying attention. They are looking at something and they have a lot of supplies. We wonder where they are and what grade they are in. We also wonder if it is a public school. Are they taking a picture or looking at a camera? What are they staring at? Is it something important? Why are they holding up peace signs? What is the teacher working on?
stamina (Bruges, Belgium)
We think children from a South-American country (Mexico or Colombia?) are watching a television screen. There's a video chat going on where someone announces a kid from the class is selected for The Voice. The teachers looks quiet because she knew about the surprise. She was not allowed to show her excitement in order not to spoil everything.
Nicki Ruthaivilavan (Bangkok, Thailand)
We think this is a school, because we see desks and papers and a teacher. It's probably a public school because the kids are not in uniforms. We think maybe they're looking up at a screen, maybe doing a Mystery Skype, or the same thing we're doing - looking at a NYT What's Going On In This Picture?!
Mr. Crouse's Grade 5 (Greensboro, North Carolina)
@Nicki Ruthaivilavan We also made the suggestion of a Skype with another class/person/or scientist. We think maybe it's happening during the spring or summer and that three of the students must be involved in a special during school or after school event such as a club, since they are wearing the same white top with a red tie or ribbon.
Class 314 (NYC)
Here are some of our thoughts: -I think they are looking at an online quiz and some kids are saying their answers, while other kids are thinking. -I think they are creating a project and are voting on the choice they want because I see paper and scissors. -Maybe they are taking a class picture and some kids are making peace signs. -I think they are voting on the correct answer to a quiz. -I think they might be doing a state test and showing the results on the Smartboard. -I think it's a multiple choice questions and people are putting up the number 2 because they think that's right. -It looks like a tiny classroom and they don't have a lot, so they may not pay much for it. -I think there's an announcement that some kids are happy about. -I think they may be videochatting with someone on Skype or Facetime because some kids are smiling at the board.
srvt (Saxtons River, VT)
Nathaniel The picture shows children who are in a classroom. They are looking up at a wasp in the top corner on the right. The teacher is sitting on the right hand side of the room. not really interested.
HG students (Heidenheim, Germany)
The picture shows children who are in a classroom. They are looking up to something in the top corner on the right. The teacher is sitting on the right-hand side. It seems as if she is busy and not interested in what is going on. The kids are probably video-chatting with somebody special via facetime or skype because they look very fascinated and some are showing a peace sign with their fingers.
srvt (Saxtons River, VT)
@HG students Where do you think they are in the world?
miles (putney central)
This looks like a classroom of kids possibly in spain, as they all look to be of that ethnicity. They're all looking in one place which makes me think they're having a picture taken of them. They're also posing which strengthens my point.
phoebe w (pcs)
I think a class is watching a video and are coping a character giving the peace sign or they are skyping some one and saying peace or there teacher is teaching them how to make a peace sign and what it is. I say this because they are all looking in one place and some of the kids are giving a peace sign. I can also see the classroom is kind of crowded and messy.
Raina (Vermont)
These are kids in a classroom taking a picture, which explains why they are all looking in the same direction and making hand gestures.
Santiago (Spain)
Hello @Raina, I desagree with you, to be honest, I think that maybe is not a picture, it can be a game of math or something like that, because the childs are doing gesture with they hands
Mrs. Calder's Grade 4 Class (Calgary, AB)
We see kids putting watching something up high, excitedly, and holding up two or three fingers. We think that they are being asked a question and they are responding. Maybe it is a math question if they are holding up different numbers of fingers? We notice there is a teacher sitting at a desk and writing. We wonder why she is not participating with the students.
Tian R (PCS)
It looks like there are a group of kids in a classroom and the teacher is doing work in the corner. The kids are looking up at something, maybe they are talking to someone on a screen. Some of the kids look curious and some of them are making a peace sign.
Mrs. Hocke's Class (aka Greggg) (Fort Collins, CO)
This picture is in a school, as proved by the student desks and the teacher's desk to the far right with the school supplies. There is a teacher sitting at the desk on the right. The students are watching an interactive show or game on a tv near the ceiling, as proved by the fact that everybody is looking up and toward the front. The kids seem excited, proving further that there’s some sort of interactive screen toward the front of the room. The students are holding up different amounts of fingers depending on their answer suggesting the interactive component.
Mrs. Owens's Skills Block Class (Homer, NY)
We think this is a school and students are gathered to learn a game or watch an educational video. They are very excited about this and seem interested. We are wondering why the teacher is in the corner grading papers...is there another teacher we can't see directing this? We are also wondering what is on the other side of the windows...We believe this picture is not current but not necessarily "old." 2010ish Possibly South or Central America...relatively warmer temperatures based on clothing.
miles (putney central)
@Mrs. Owens's Skills Block Class I think they are having a picture taken of them. Almost everyone is posing which leads me to believe that this is true.
Eva Boyle (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
In this picture, I see a class of young children being entertained by something. This picture could have been taken in a Spanish or Latin American country because all the children seem to share that general ethnicity. Some of them are holding up their fingers as if they are learning numbers in an educational video. This would explain why they are all gathered in-front of what could be a smart board or projector screen seeming very interested. They were doing this during school and seem to be having a fun time aswell.
Mrs. G's Lovelies :) (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan)
They are watching an entertaining video that makes them laugh and smile. They are learning about stuff they haven't learned before because they all look curious. It's a bunch of kids looking at something out of frame. They are participating in a school discussion. They are very interested in what they are looking at. The kids are posing proudly. The children are awestruck by whatever they are staring at in the classroom. The kids are maybe looking at a clock counting down the seconds to leave or maybe someone is taking a picture. The kids are looking at something very visually appealing. It has all of their attention.
Micah Chee (Ignacio colorado)
I think they are posing for a picture
phoebe w (pcs)
@Micah Chee Now that you say that i can see it and you may be right.
Mrs. Barrett's Group (Batavia, NY)
Jamarie - They are answering questions with their fingers up. They are looking at a promethean board and looking on Brain Pop and answering questions while the teacher sits at the table. I notice there are a lot of kids. There are brick walls and weird windows. They look like kindergarten kids. I think their school color is black and yellow. Sonny - They are looking at a show that tells them to do stuff. They could be learning math. There is a lot of stuff, like supplies. They are in Canada and they are in an old classroom. Mrs. Barrett - I think that this is a classroom in a state near the Mexican border. It looks like they are working with a teacher through and interactive program on the TV. They all seem very interested in what they are watching. The rooms furniture is old and worn. This school probably doesn't have a lot of money. Maybe the room isn't part of the school building but is a portable classroom.
jack (Vancouver)
all of the kids are in a call with a very rich person who is about to give the school and the kids a huge donation. The kids are very happy and their doing a new trick they learned called the peace sign. They are in a public school during the day.
Ethan (New Hampshire)
I think that these students are from a Latin American country because of their ethnicity. They are all focused on a screen at the front of the classroom. I can tell because they are all looking up at the same thing at the front of the classroom. I believe they are video chatting with another class because they are holding up the peace sign to say "hello" or "goodbye." None of them appear to be talking to whoever is on the screen. Instead they use a gesture (peace sign) to communicate which makes me think they may not share the same native language with the other class.
Donnovan (pcs)
I think these kids are watching finding dory and they are at the end of it and they are all shocked because the movie was roof breaking and they are doing peace sighs because they loved the movie and i think they are in a different country because the floors are yellow and there is wrighting on the desks that i cant make out
daniel (vermont)
@Donnovan i dont think that they are watching finding dory. maybe something else on tv?
Lyndsay (West Haven)
I believe the group of kids are on some sort of video chat at school. The children all seem to be looking towards a screen, maybe giving the camera the peace sign or saying hi. Some of them have out papers and books, a possible art activity as well. The kids look like they are excited and engaged to be involved in whatever activity they are doing.
Group 1 8A (Toronto )
We believe that the kids are in a classroom because there are desks and backpacks. We also think the kids are posing for a photo because they are all looking up. The photo may have something to do with peace because they are showing peace signs with their hands.
Group 5 8A (Toronto)
We think the students are watching a sports game on the board at the front of the class, we think this because everyone looks captivated and interested. They are close together to try and get a better look.
Wally Wonder (Jupiter)
8A Group 4 We think that these kids are in a classroom watching something. Some of the kids are holding there hands out, so we think they might be watching StarWars. They all also seem to be of the same race. We also think that their looking at something in the top corner of the class and maybe they are looking at bird. They look like they are in a school that is in Mexico or something.
8a group 3 (Earth - Milky Way- local group)
They are either in school, or Sunday school, due to the backpacks. If they are, they seem to be happy, by giving off peace signs. Or they could be doing math, and holding up 2s, for the awnser.
Eva Boyle (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@8a group 3 What makes you think that this could have taken place in Sunday school?
8A Mels group (Toronto)
We think that the kids are watching a video and it’s telling them something very interesting. We noticed that they’re holding up two fingers which can relate to the video which could be about math, or something educational that most of them don’t know about. They look like they could be from somewhere in Asia because they’re kids of colour. They are also wearing summer clothes which means that it must be hot where they live. The teacher also seems to be marking something so it has to be in a classroom. The building looks old so it must have not been renovated for a long time
DeSanti (Elmhurst, Illinois)
Here is our 7th-grade class thought about this picture: Since all the students are looking up I think the photograph shows kids learning in a different way. these kids are I school in Central America. Kids in the front look like they understand the lesson and the kids in the back look like they don't understand the lesson.
Mrs. E's Class (Ten Sleep, WY)
We think this is a classroom because there are desks and backpacks, and possibly a teacher, in the room. This classroom is probably outside the United States. Maybe these students are learning sign language because they look like they're making a "peace sign" or maybe some kind of word or letter in sign language.
Mrs. Livingston's 2nd Grade (Ohio)
We see a group of students who look like they are in a classroom. We think they are from a different country because we see a different language written on the desk. We noticed that some are dressed the same or in a school uniform and some are dressed in "street clothes". We think they are looking at a smart board or camera and possibly Skyping with someone else. They are putting up the peace sign to the camera.
Alex G. (Bad Schwartau, Germany)
Here's my class's thought on the picture (10th Grade - Germany) The picture Shows a classroom in a rather poor part of Latin America. The families of all the children in this classroom are in need and the school has a partnership with another school in maybe North America or a more wealthier part of Latin America. The class ist just video calling their partner class. That’s why they are standing together so closely and showing the peace sign. Maybe each of the students has a pen pal in the other class and they are meeting for the first time or something like that.
Emma (AOSE)
This is a classroom, filled with young children, who appear to be talking to someone out of frame, maybe on facetime or skype. You can tell because of the way they are looking off to the side with happy or intrigued faces. Some are even holding up peace signs. It could also be some kind of instructional video used to teach the students.
Erin (AOSE)
This picture is showing children in a classroom. I know this because there are book bags, desks, and school supplies all over. It seems like the children are watching a video because they are all intently looking up at something. The video is probably interactive because they are holding up their fingers to form numbers. This school appears to be in a poorer country, because of the amount of children stuffed into one small classroom.
Danny V (Ucas)
This is a classroom and the kids are watching and entertaining movie or video. The kids look very engaged in what they're watching while the teacher in the corner doesn't really care.
Sadie P (California)
The children appear to be in a classroom, looking at something on a projector or a blackboard. The sign they are making may be a guess for a number-based question they were asked.
Jason Sanchez (Utah)
This photo appears to show a classroom full of young children who are watching a video probably a movie. It appears to be in South or Central America based on the students apperance.
Julia (UCAS)
This picture shows that a group of kids in the class. Because of the desk and the backpack. It seems like they are looking at the screen and is answering a question. They look really interested with the thing they are looking.
Eva Boyle (Academy of Saint Elizabeth)
@Julia What do you think that they could be looking at on the screen?
Tian R (PCS)
@Julia It looks like the group of kids are talking to someone on a video chat.
Kennedy H. (Orem)
It looks almost like all the kids are posing for a picture or that they're all looking up at some kind of new technology that their school just got. It almost looks like it is night time based on the windows and the classroom looks kind of overcrowded.
Raina (Vermont)
@Kennedy H. It makes sense that they might be posing for a picture or something.
Valerie R (ucas)
This is a classroom filled with young children, because of the backpacks and the desks situated. They are probably talking to someone on skype and/or are taking a picture, you can tell because of the way they are not only faced and smiling towards the board they are waving peace signs. They are probably in a third world country because of the state of the school and that there are bars at the window (probably for safety).
Ryan C. (unknown)
This picture appears to be a children's classroom based on the desks and backpacks. They are probably watching a screen of sorts based on their head tilted up. They might be taking a competitive quiz of sorts based on their hand gestures. The school may be in a poorer region based on the quality of the room and the style of architecture.
Angie Lara (Utah)
This is a classroom filled with children. From the looks of the windows it seems to be a classroom in South America. The students seem to be engaged in the class discussion and from the peace signs thrown in the air, they are studying math.
Emily Elder (Utah)
This is a classroom of children because they have desks and supplies. They are taking a class picture because the one kids is doing a peace sign. Another kid is smiling. They seem very focused.
sydney t (ucas)
It looks like these children are in a math class at school. Some of the students are holding up two fingers which makes me think that they are answering a math problem. They have backpacks, school supplies like pencils and scissors, and desks. It seems like they might be a latinx community or something.
Emma (AOSE)
@sydney t I agree. What could they also be doing that would cause them to smile and hold their hands that way?
Dovahkiin (Skyrim)
This seems like a classroom. The kids in this room appear to be looking at something perhaps on a white-board. It seems very cramped and like a low-income school, due to the brown and red brick that was common in the early 2000's. The desks also seem well used.
Jayce C. (Utah)
They seem like a class of children watching a sports game or a video that relate to the class. I believe it is not the video relating to the class because they seem to actually enjoy it.
Madi (UCAS)
This is a classroom of kids who seem to be about 7 or 8 years old and they are all starting at something on the board. I believe it's a classroom because of the posters on the back wall, all the kids are sitting in desks, and you see school supplies like backpacks, books, and pens everywhere. The kids seem either shocked or pleased by what they see. Many of them are holding up peace signs. I know that this is a fairly recent photo because it is in color and because of the clothing the children are wearing.
William J. (UCAS)
This picture is a candid picture of a classroom. This is a classroom filled with young children. You can see desks, artwork on the back wall, and backpacks. The children seem to have their attention focused towards the front of the room while the teacher is at her desk. Some of the children are holding up two fingers which makes you think that they are interacting with something. They could be solving a problem or watching an interactive video.
Monica (Utah)
This is a classroom that looks like it might be a different country. It is filled with children and are around 7 to 8 years old looking at the board. Some look excited others look confused, and some are holding up 2 with their fingers. Either it is an answer or they see the camera and are holding up a peace sign.
GabbyH (Zukovia)
The children in this picture are obviously looking at something up above them. You can tell, because they are all looking up at an object or person. The children look as if they are at school being taught a lesson. I can infer this because of the school desks, and what look like backpacks on their chars.
kaleb maravilla (ucas)
These kids are looking are a presentation in class. I know this because it looks like they are in a class room setting. Most of the kids are facing towards something so i'm assuming it is knowledge. some of the kids aren't paying attention so they obviously do not want the opportunity to learn new knowledge. there are uniforms in this picture, that means some kids didn't care enough to dress up to school.
Johnny (L)
It looks like a classroom of children probably around the age of 8. I say that it is a classroom because there seems to be a lot of school supplies and backpacks. It also seems to be a poorer school because the desks look quite worn. They all seem to be looking at one spot and holding up fingers so I assume they are trying to solve a math problem and displaying the answer with their fingers.
Brian A. (UCAS)
This picture is from a foreign country because this type of school design isn't the average American classroom. You can also tell from the photographers name because it's Latin American. These kids are either learning math or this is another subject and there is a multiple choice question because they are holding their hands up.
Ethan S (UCAS)
The image shows a classroom full of younger kids presumably in elementary or primary school. We can observe this because of the teacher and all of the kids. I think they are on a video call with someone as students are looking up and some are waving.
Mrs. Thompson P1 (Fountain Valley, CA)
We think it is classroom looking at a picture, or TV. The sign they are making with their fingers is the quiet sign.
Noah (Utah)
I think that this looks like a classroom of students looking up at something the teacher is showing them or something that they have never seen before.
Emma (AOSE)
@Noah Any ideas on what they could be looking at? Why would some hold up peace signs like that?
Erin (AOSE)
@Noah What do you think the teacher is showing them? Why do you think some of their hands are held up forming numbers?
Adam G (Ucas)
The kids are looking at the weather report to see when the storm outside will end
Joanne Diaz (Utah)
These students are completely captivated by the information presented in front of them. The children in the picture are learning mathematics. The answer to the current question is two. Which is why some of the children are holding up the number two with their fingers. The adult doesn't seem to be concerned with the children's behavior. Due to the structure of the building, this picture was most likely not taken in the United States.
Michael K (UCAS)
I believe that this is a picture of a classroom in Mexico where they are learning math. I say this because they are definitely in a classroom and they are also holding up two fingers.
bruhmaster64 (utah)
i think this image shows kids reacting to a disturbing image of war
Hallie (Vancouver)
I think this picture shows a classroom in the Philippines or somewhere tropical because the kids are wearing clothes for warmer weather. It seems like they're looking at a screen that has a video teaching them about numbers, because some are holding up the number 2 with their fingers, as well, they look very intrigued because they're learning something new, or they could be looking at a speaker talking to them about a different country, that's why they look so confused. I think the picture was taken . from another teacher or another speaker observing the class. The mood in the picture seems very happy; some are confused, intrigued, curious, and some appear to be playing around.
Grace (aose)
This is a classroom filled with children. I say this is a classroom because of the desks, drawings on the back wall, and the fact that some children are wearing back packs. To continue, they seem to be watching something at the from of the room, because that is where all their attention is. There is an older woman sitting the corner of the room, that possibly could be the teacher. I say this because she is an adult and seems to be doing work at the desk. I can assume they are watching a video because the teacher is sitting away from the students working on something else. The video they are watching has something to with peace because some children are making piece signs in response to it.
kaleb maravilla (ucas)
@Grace very good infrences i do agree that there are desks in the room and i do think its a classroom.
Jordon LeBaron (utah)
The picture shows kids in school about to have a candid class picture taken. You can tell that they are in a school classroom because of the amount of kids in the picture and the type of desks some of the kids are sitting in. They seem to be about to take a picture because they are all looking in the same direction at what could be a camera. Some are also posing with common gestures you do in pictures. But some seem not ready which would give you insight that the picture hasn't been taken yet.
Adam M. (UCAS)
@Jordon LeBaron but plot twist this is a picture of them taking a picture.. so which picture were they really preparing for? Were they just acting for this picture?
kaleb maravilla (ucas)
@Jordon LeBaron i agree because there are some kids doing gang signs in the picture.
Michael K (UCAS)
@Jordon LeBaron I disagree, due to the faces of some of the kids, they seem more like they are watching something rather than taking a picture.
Jazmin (School)
The kids in this picture are in a classroom, but it's a run down school. I think it's a rundonw school becuase of the classrom size and the graffitii on the desk. They seem to be entertained by what's on the board. They most likely are trying to solve a problem due to some of the kids' confused reactions. After they find their aswer they need to show the teacher by responding with their fingers.
Gage C (UCAS)
This image is of a class getting their picture taken. I know this because all the students are looking generally in the same direction and many of them are putting their two fingers behind the heads of others. The teacher is also doing something unrelated on the right of the image so it could not be a class activity.
Courtney (Utah)
The students are in a classroom learning from a lesson. It looks to me like they are looking at a screen, maybe watching an informative video that goes along with the lesson. This school looks very old. I know that because of the way the chairs, desks, and walls look. This is a modern picture because of the clothing style and the picture is in color.
McKay P. of Lehi (Special School in Utah County (UCAS))
This picture seems to have been taken in a primary school or elementary school. It appears to be a school in a Latin American country. The sign they are making with their hands appears to be the peace sign, while they look at a board or screen. The country seems to have less educational funding because of the graffiti on the desks.
Bryce (UCAS)
The children in this photo look like they are in school, based off of the backpacks, desks, environment, and that they are all around the same age group, probably around age 8. They could be watching some type of announcement, because they are everywhere, and clearly it is very exciting.
Kaden (USU)
this appears to be a group of students at school participating in some activity. It could be assumed that the activity involves holding up 2 fingers, possibly being the answer to the question, but all attention is off-screen towards the front of the room. It is likely a poor school in a poor area, given the worn out supplies, vandalism, and lack of electronics.
Angie Lara (Utah)
@Kaden I did not pay attention to the lack of electronics bit, which feeds into the theory of it being a poorer school.
Hannah (Orem)
These are students perhaps in grade 3 or 4 in a classroom. There appear to all be of the same nationality. The children live in a hot climate as seen by them all wearing short sleeves. The teacher isn't paying attention. The reinforced windows bring to mind the question of what the environment is, especially because the children look very happy.
Kennedy H. (Orem)
@Hannah I didn't even think about the grade, but that is a good things to consider. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
Claire (AOSE)
In this picture, I see children at school. I believe they are at school because there are backpacks, pencil cases, and who looks to be a teacher to the right. All these objects tell me these children are at school. Also, the kids all look about the same age, telling me they are in a class. I believe the children are looking at the board because they seem very engaged. They seem to be looking at a math problem. I think this because some children are holding up two fingers, symbolizing the number two. In addition, the children could be holding up a peace sign. They could be in history class, talking about world peace. Another reason why I believe they are in history class is because the posters in the back look like maps. Lastly the older person to the right is most likely an assistant teacher. She is staring at papers and not paying attention to what the children are doing. This makes me wonder if someone else, perhaps the lead teacher, is in the front of the room teaching a lesson. In conclusion, this picture shows a group of children invested in their schoolwork.
Rachel (AOSE)
This appears to be a school setting due to the number of desks and the number of school-age children that are present in the room. This does not seem to be a particularly wealthy area. This is because of the fact that many of the desks seem to be broken and there are not enough desks and chairs for the students.
Jonathan (Utah)
The school kids are participating in some kahoot-esque game, but holding up their answer rather than entering it on a computer. This is probably due to it being a poorer community, also shown in the quality of the desks and cleanliness of the room. They also seem to be looking up at something most likely a tv because the whiteboard is unlikely at the top of the room. The height seems to be either a cart with wheels that is closer to them or a wall mounted tv so they can do this type of learning more often.
Samuel L Jackson (Your Butt)
The kids are learning about counting, hence why they are holding up their hands with fingers held up with different numerals. But the most pressing story is the woman in the corner. She has obviously been held back for a very long time; however, she will never give up. She will always keep fighting, and one day she might just make it.
Todd (The Happy Valley )
A major detail I see in this picture is how crowded the desks and the classroom look. All the students are staring up at something, possibly a video or a projection on the wall that's cut out of the scree. They seem intent on whatever it is, and several of them are holding up two fingers, which makes me curious. Is it the peace sign, or literally the number two? It interests me that who I assume is the teacher seems to be not paying much attention to the students at all. I don't know what's going on there.
Kristian (SOL 3)
Kids, all of whom seem to be of a similar age range and ethnicity, are sitting around desks gesturing "two" towards the same location, and their instructor appears to be sitting to the side. Based on the given information, I would say that this classroom is located in a country south of the United States, and that they are watching an educational video. Furthermore, their eyes are all angled upwards, meaning whatever they are looking at is above them. The video in question is also interactive, as is evident by their gesturing.
Casey (Ray of Sunshine)
This looks like one of the classes that the teacher can't control and they are all focused on something like a class movie in the class and they are all moving around
BenjR (UCAS)
The kids are in what looks like a classroom. I figured that because I can see the scissors, pencils, and other various school supplies on the desks. At first it looked as though there was something interesting on the ceiling, but the one person on the side is completely uninterested. She looks like the teacher just because it's a desk secluded from the others and she has a binder-lookin' thing open on the desk. Because some of the supposed students are holding up "the number two" on their fingers and they are all looking sort of up, I concluded they are answering a question on the board. Not sure what type of board, but I can guess it's something about math.
Moroni (Utah)
An elementary school classroom, these young children seem to be learning math, some holding up what they think the answer to be, twos, and threes etc. the adult sitting in the back is likely a teacher's aid or student teacher and is not teaching this lesson.
Jana (Happy Valley )
I think that these students are either taking a picture or they are taking a video. I think this because they all seem to be looking in the same general area and they are smiling and making hand gestures. They seem to be giving their attention to what ever is in front of them and it seems to be interesting.
Fern P (Putney Central School)
I see a group of kids in a classroom that are all looking up at some common interest. I think that they might be looking up at a screen that is Skyping or FaceTiming someone, possibly an important person, such as a politician. They all seem to be trying to get a better view and be visible to the person they are Skyping or FaceTiming with. The peace signs they are holding up might be some sort of greeting or just a way to be noticed.
Nicole (Utah)
This image looks like a bunch of elementary school kids maybe taking a survey or quiz on the board, based on their fingers in the air. And they all look rather young.
Hannah V. (UCAS)
Obviously, it's a school, based on the desks, and the fact that there is a teacher in the corner. The students are all looking at something because al their heads are focused in the smae direction. Many of the students are holding up the number 2 on their hands, making me think that they're answering a question to whoever or whatever they're looking at. Based on the condition of the school, and the students, it makes me think that this is either somewhere in the U.S. that's really poor, or in a 3rd world country.
SHAWNMENDESISLOVE (HEre)
These kids are video chatting with Richard Nixon and showing him the peace sign because that was his thing
sydney t (ucas)
@SHAWNMENDESISLOVE I love this idea, it is very creative and I really hope that you are right.
Keagan F. (UCAS)
These are kids in a classroom, maybe a school seen by the fact that they are doing or learning stuff. THey are part of an experiment with an airborne drug that causes the students to have the same hallucinogen. They are all clearly out of it, I believe that the kids are looking up at the ceiling where they see a riddle with two options; it reads "Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses or 1 horse sized duck?". They are going with the second option, hence many of them holding up the number two, and the second option being to " fight the 1 horse sized duck". Long story short these kids are screwed, the correct answer is the "100 duck sized horses".
Sophie (Utah)
This image is of elementary school children being fascinated by a new school camera system. This is a lower income school, the building itself and the supplies don’t look to be the best of the best, and it also seems to be outside of America due to the writing of a language I do not recognize and the students and teacher looking to be of Hispanic or Latino heritage. The new camera system idea came from all the children being fascinated and even posing for the object behind the photographer, but this isn’t something interesting enough for the adult woman there to pay any mind to. This is a great picture with a wide variety of emotion and uniqueness that I haven’t seen before.
Jenna L. (UCAS)
These kids are getting their picture taken, looking at the screen that shows what they look like. They are interested and some are making weird faces because they want to change their on the screen. They are putting up two fingers, like many people do, some to make others look like they have rabbit ears and others to mimic others. They are reacting with a sense of wonder, with their eyes wide open to the screen that is in front of them projecting their images.
Jacob P (Milky)
The kids are in a class learning sign language. Currently they are doing a class competition, this is shown by the lines of students approaching the board. A kid in a blue shirt is comparing his hand sign to that of an oblivious kid in a white shirt. this is seen by the proximity of where the kid in the blue shirt's hand is and where his eyes are.
Ashtonator (UCAS )
Given the ethnicity of the children being maybe from a Hispanic culture and with everything going on with the border control this may be a picture of those people in the united states representing their wants for education in America.
Aaliyah T. (Utah)
It looks like these kids are at school based on the school supplies and backpacks around the room. They are looking at something off screen, possibly a whiteboard or chalkboard because they are at school. Some of them are holding up a 2 on their fingers probably answering a question on the board.
Evan D (LCMS)
These kids are at a school, doing some sort of learning activity. I know this because there is one adult and a lot of kids, also the kids are staring up at something off screen (possibly a white board or TV) some looking confused, and some hold up fingers as if they are answering the question. This school is poor, and old. I know this because there is graffiti on all of the desks, and there is a lot of kids in on class. All of these kids like school. I know this because they are all intrigued in what is happening on the board, or TV. In conclusion, these kids are at a poor school being entertained by an activity.
Mia T. (LCMS)
In this picture, it looks like there are many children, they look as if they are learning something. I know this because they have books in their hands and are holding up numbers. The kids also could be distracted by something. I know this because they are all looking at something in the distance with great intrigue. The kids are also in a classroom setting. I know this because there are desks and chair set up all over the room and there are poster and drawings on the walls. All in all, these kids are in classroom learning as they are immensely focused on someone or something in the front of the room.
Grace R (AOSE)
This picture shows a group of kids in what appears to be a classroom. Some of them are holding up peace signs, and they are all looking at the front of the room. I can tell that this is a classroom because there are chairs and backpacks all around. There is a woman who might be the kid's teacher towards the bottom right of the picture. The kids are focused on something at the front of the of the room, so they might be watching a video on a screen. The children holding up peace signs might be responding to whatever is happenng in the video. This picture also seems to have been taken recently, as the kids are wearing modern clothes and the picture is in color.
Emily H (LCMS)
In this weeks picture, it looks like the students are answering a question that could possibly be displayed on a tv that is on the wall. I know this because some kids are holding up two fingers, which could be the answer to the question, and every kid is looking at the same place on the wall. This picture could possibly take place in an elementary school because each kid looks to be about 7 or 8. This picture looks like it was taken sometime in the summer because almost every kid is wearing shorts and a t-shirt. ANother thing I noticed is that the girl in the bottom left hand corner, the girl behind the kid with the white glasses, and the boy in the top left hand corner are all wearing the same white shirt with a red tie. This could possibly suggest that they are from another school and this classroom is a whole group of kids from different schools. Overall, this is a picture of a group of kids from different schools learning from one tv that is up on the wall.
Kevin K. (LCMS)
In this picture, I can see many bookbags, desks, and younger children. This can allude to the fact that this is a school as those are things you find in a school; children, bookbags, and desks. Also, I can see that they are all looking one way. This helps to explain this is a school as when in school most kids are looking at the teacher when the teacher is explaining something. Lastly, The kids are holding up two fingers. Judging by that, this could mean that by this being a school, these kids are either learning how to count up numbers or they are learning something from the past, the peace sign. So all in all, I believe this is a school setting because of the items and people, the way the kids are staring, and the signal they are holding.
Clayton (Brazil)
I think that has a tv and they seems are watching these TV
Arianna (NJ)
I think they’re watching the Super Bowl.
Alexis, W (LCMS)
In this picture, there is a classroom full of students that are looking up curiously at something. I know this because all of the children in the picture are in a classroom setting, with bookbags and school supplies surrounding them. Additionally, the students in the picture are taking some sort of a class quiz. Not only are there children who are holding their fingers up with numbers, but there are also children who are intently studying what is presented to them. There are even students with books out, trying to find where the answer is. This class is not taking place in an American school, as the majority of the students appear to be Hispanic. All in all, this is a non-american class with young students taking part in a quiz directed by the teacher.
Ryleigh,T (LCMS)
From this image, I can draw the conclusion that this is a classroom full of students. I know this because in the image there are writing utensils and paper on desks, and there are also schoolbags. Also, I can make the assumption that they are watching a learning video. I say this because they are all staring up intently at whatever is there and they are in a school. One last thing I can draw from the photo provided is that the video they are watching is interactive. I know this because some kids are holding up two fingers like they are saying the number of something that is on the screen. In essence, from this photo I can tell that the kids are in a school watching an interactive learning video.
Sophia G. (LCMS)
In this photo, there is a classroom filled with children looking up, possibly learning something for some type of craft they are doing. I know this because, on each of the children’s desks, there are items such as colored pencils, paper, and scissors. Additionally, all of their heads are tilted up which could indicate that they are looking at a board or maybe a TV with a video presented on it, with more information on the craft they are working on. I know this because most of the children are holding up peace signs which could mean that they are learning some type of language, incorporating it into the craft activity they may be doing. Furthermore, most of the children look to be the same race (maybe Hispanic), which could mean that this image was taken in another country or an area where there are most of the same race of people populated there. Based on this evidence, a classroom of students from another country or neighborhood of the same race, are looking up at the board or TV, doing a craft on a new language they may be learning.
Addie D. (LCMS)
This picture was taken in an elementary school. I know this because the children look fairly young, they are desks in the room, and the women in the back is most likely their teacher. The children are looking at some sort of screen. I know this because their heads are tilted upwards and they appear to be very engaged. Furthermore, the students are participating in some sort of interactive game, I know this because they’re holding up their fingers as to give an answer. Based on the evidence, I have concluded that this picture was taken in an elementary school, while the students were participating in some sort of online interactive activity.
Claire (AOSE)
@Addie D. You mention their teacher is seen in the back. However, she does not seem like she is paying attention to the children, as a teacher should. What other evidence tells you she is the teacher?
Gia P. (LCMS)
In this picture, there is a group of children at school. I know that they are at school because their are desks, chairs, and backpacks. Additionally, these children are happy and excited. I know this because they are all smiling, and some of them seem really interested in whatever is going on. Furthermore, the children are all watching something happening on some sort of board or TV. I know this because they are all looking up at something, and they all seem to be paying very close attention to whatever is going on. Based on the evidence, there are a bunch of children in a classroom, watching something that they are very happy and excited about.
Olivia M (AOSE)
In this picture, there are about twenty five children either sitting at their desk, sitting on their desk, or standing around the desks. They are gathered in a classroom (there are desks, pencils, paper.) The girl on the bottom left appears to have scissors and paper on her desk which leads me to believe that the children are very young. A few of the children appear to be holding up two fingers. I️ think that the teacher had put a basic math problem on the board and had told them to hold up the number of fingers they thought was the correct solution. I️ can also see that the boy in the purple shirt and white glasses has his head cocked to the side and appears to be trying to focus on something, which further supports the ides that the children are trying to complete a math problem.
Jason L (LCMS)
It is obvious that this photo was taken in a classroom. I can tell because there are copious amounts of school supplies strewn about desks, accompanied with a few backpacks. The children are looking up at the wall, most likely a TV. I know this because they are all looking at the same thing with either focused expressions or a look of enjoyment, while the teacher in the back works, as most do when a video is playing for students. Additionally, Some students are answering a question that the TV, likely playing a video, is asking them. You can tell because some of the students are holding up numbers with their fingers. Furthermore, this is a classroom full of students watching a video while the teacher grades work.
Tyler B (LCMS )
In this image, there is something on the wall may be a T.V. or a whiteboard. I know this because the children are all looking up on the wall. I also noticed that these children are sitting in a small room, maybe even a classroom. I know this because all of the students are standing in the middle of the room and there are desks and chairs, also there is a teacher sitting in the bottom right-hand corner of the photo. In addition, the desks in the classroom might have been built in the late 2000s. I know this because the desks and chairs look outdated and the teacher’s desk looks like it is made out of four other desks. In addition, the walls in the classroom are covered in graffiti and they looked patched up with paper. Based on the evidence shown, this picture could’ve been taken in the late 2000s inside a classroom with all of the students looking up at the wall.
Dan W (LCMS)
The setting of this picture is a school classroom. I know this because there are desks, backpacks, and school supplies. Moreover the kids are happy. I know this because of their facial expressions and the way some of them are smiling. Additionally the children are doing a project. I know this because they have a lot of detail on the posters in the back and they have supplies all over their desks. Based on the evidence, in the picture there are happy kids working on a school project.
Victoria K (LCMS)
In this picture, there are a group of students in a classroom. I know this because there are many desks, backpacks, and school supplies all around the room. In addition, the students are watching a video up on the board. I know this because they are all looking up and some students have concerned faces about the video. Furthermore, the kids may be watching some type of mathematical educational video. I know this because many of the students are holding up two fingers, indicating the number 2, that they may have solved watching the video. In conclusion, based on this evidence, there are a group of students in a classroom watching an educational video and trying to solve the problem.

Bianca E (Millard )
There are kids trying to read a clock and a teacher is at her desk. The students are up on desks and are holding up numbers too.
Grace (aose)
@Bianca E You say that the teacher is at her desk, however what details tell you that she is a teacher?
Bill Crosby (Michigan)
I think that they are doing a craft due to the scissors and paper on the all the desks
Emily Laird (Omaha)
Theres a bunch of kids in a class i believe learning math. i think that because of the few holding up the number 2. I also see an adult also holding up 2 in the back.
Jakob T (Millard)
this looks like a group of kids in a 3rd world country trying to learn something and they are holding up peace signals.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Jakob T Thank you for your comment. You are looking at the children in this image and making an assumption that they may not be from a country that you are familiar with and possibly a country that is not economically stable. You are also noticing that they look like they are learning. What do you see that makes you say that the children are "trying to learn something"?
Grace R (AOSE)
@Jakob T What makes you think this is a 3rd world country?
Olivia M (AOSE)
@Jakob T This is an interesting perspective. What do you see in the picture that led you to say that this is a third world country?
Angela (Millard)
I like the kids focus on the activity at hand, which seems to be some time of craft because of the scissors and papers out on all the kids desks. They all are holding up peace signs for the picture too which shows that they know what is going on and are aware of the picture even though they are all looking in the front of the classroom and not the side like the angle that the picture is taken from.
Mason M (Millard)
Looks like a normal class paying attention and participating while learning something new. But what I don't quite understand is, why is the teacher sitting at her desk and not teaching those children.
Grace (aose)
@Mason M What makes you say the children are confused? Does it have to do with their facial expressions?
Lauren W. (Millard )
In this photo, there are students in a classroom that are looking at posters or a whiteboard in the front of the classroom. Their attention seems to be at one point of the camera.
cici k (omaha)
it looks like students are engaged in their lesson. having some fun learning for that day. you can see some kids smiling
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@cici k Thank you for your comment. You are noticing that the children seem engaged. What do you see that makes you say that their is a lesson that they are engaged in as opposed to another thing?
Grace R (AOSE)
@cici k What do you think they are learning or looking at?
Sabrina (H)
I think they are looking at the board trying to figure out a question and are answering it by showing up two fingers.
Brian A. (UCAS)
@Sabrina I think you're right.
jenna (omaha ne)
It looks like kids it appears like it's in a classroom because of the book bags and pencils and desks. It also looks like they are holding up to fingers it may be because they are watching a video of numbers possibly. Looks like a number two and some are looking at their hands confused as to they cant form the number two. All for all they could just be holding up a peace sign.
Jaclyn (Millard)
The kids are in a classroom looking at something and making weird faces. I know this because they aren't looking at the camera. I notice some kids are making peace signs.
faruk.r (Millard )
i though they was looking at a board but they are looking at the ceiling and are surprised to see something up on the ceiling.
Anissa (UCAS)
There is a group of kids in a classroom looking at something at the front of the classroom. At first I thought the teacher was asking them to answer a math question because some of the kids are holding up two fingers, however, I noticed that the teacher is sitting at her desk in the corner. This makes me think that they are looking at a screen. All of the children look interested and are all focused on the front. They could be talking to someone through facetime. This could be a possibility because they are all gathered to the middle of the classroom. Holding up two fingers could be them saying hello or saying that they are in second grade. They could also be playing some kind of math or learning game. This is probably in a heavily hispanic population.
Fern P (Putney Central School)
@Anissa Wow, that is a very detailed comment! I agree with you that they could be FaceTiming someone, but I didn't think about them holding up two fingers to signify them being in second grade. That's an interesting idea. I can tell you really thought about this picture, and you did a good job. :)
Shannon (millard)
They are looking at something in the classroom. also some of the kids are confused. the desk and the backpacks.
Lex R. LCMS (Pennsylvania)
In the picture,The majority of people in the classroom appear to be hispanic leading me to believe that this is not occuring in the United States. I see young children (most likely between the ages of 7-9) in a classroom focused on something in front of them. The teacher is not looking where the students are, signifying that what everyone is looking at is of little importance. The children are also holding up their fingers possibly being responsive to what is in front of them. From all of this I can conclude that the teacher is showcasing a video to the children. The children are not sitting at their desks and seem entertained proving that the video they are watching is not educational.
Rachel (AOSE)
@Lex R. LCMS Why can the children not be watching an educational video while they aren't sitting at their desks?
Brynne M (LCMS)
This picture took place in a classroom. I know this because there are school desks ,many children, backpacks, and other school supplies. The children in this room are all looking at the board or a tv. I know this because they are all looking in the same direction and looking at the front wich is where these items would be located.I can infer that the lady in the corner writing is most likely the teacher. I know this because she is the only adult in the room and every class has a teacher. This picture is taken place in a classroom were the children are looking at a tv or a board and that the lady in corner is a teacher.
Shmantha Smith (Space)
Based upon the following image, we see that all the students have focused expressions, looking upward. The image they must be looking at could be related to critical thinking, causing the children to focus, making them have focused expressions. They appear to be in a classroom. So that must indicate that they all must be participating in a school-related activity. Their teacher could have asked the students a question about the image, which could be why some of the students are holding three fingers in the air.
Kelly R (LCMS)
I can see that there is a group of children in a classroom at school. I know this because there are desks, crayons, books, and backpacks. I can also see that the students are watching a video on a tv screen. I know this because all the kids’ have their attention up towards the wall with a focused and interested look on their face. I also see that these children are hispanic. I know this because all the children have dark hair and a darker skin. I can conclude that this is a hispanic school.
Lyman Thompson (UCAS)
I believe this picture is taken in a third world country or highly hispanic populated area. it is obviously a classroom. I know this because there are desks, pencil cases, backpacks, and books, but the room is also run down and not very high quality. There is a group of children staring at something outside of the picture. They could be staring at a lesson the teacher is teaching on the board, but that is unlikely because the kids have happy looks on their faces, and most of them have gotten out of their desks to get a closer look at what is being presented. I think it is probably a video or a picture of some protest or something important happening in their country because some of the kids are holding two fingers out to make a peace sign.
Anthony B (LCMS)
This picture takes place in a classroom. I know this because there is a teacher and students; additionally there are desks, pencils, and school supplies. In addition to the setting, this picture seems to depict children confused and excited. I know this because some students’ facial expression show that they are perplexed; despite that, others show excitement. Furthermore, the kids are looking towards the board. I know this because all of the kids are facing the front of the room where a board would be located. Based on the evidence, kids in a classroom are puzzled looking at the board.
Danny S. (LCMS)
The setting of this picture is a school classroom. I know this because there are desks, backpacks, and school supplies. Moreover the kids are happy. I know this because of their facial expressions and the way some of them are smiling. Additionally the children are hard workers. I know this because they have work with a lot of detail on the posters in the back and they have supplies all over their desks. Based on the evidence, in the picture there is hard working children with happy expressions in a classroom.
Gigi D (LCMS)
In this picture, there is something on a board/ big screen. I know this because there are many children all looking up in the same direction. This picture takes place in a school classroom. I know this because there are many children in one room, and there are desks in the room as well. This picture is in a classroom with young students. I know this because the students are very little, and seem young. Moreover, this picture is taken place in a class of young students.
P Winchester (Millard)
In this picture, the setting seems to be in a classroom due to the backpacks, desks, all the children, one adult, and the posters on the wall. The kids seem to all be focused on one thing, could be a video they are watching and are interested in. some of the kids are holding up numbers which could mean they are answering a question that the video asked them. While the other children seem to be focused on the video still trying to figure out the answer. There is a teacher sitting at her desk and she seems to e grading papers while the kids watch the video.
Luke P (LCMS)
The photo depicts a classroom of children. I can infer this as there are desks and chairs positioned around the classroom. Moreover, the school appears to be low budget. I can infer this as a result of the low grade equipment and grading. Furthermore, the school is in a latina neighborhood. This inference can be made as the children look spanish ethnicity. Based on the evidence presented, I can conclude that the photo depicts a classroom in a low-budget school located in a latina neighborhood.
Jayden (Utah)
This appears to be a classroom, judging by the backpacks, situated desks, finished projects hanging proudly on the back wall, and a teacher sitting at her desk in the corner grading a past assignment. It is somewhere in South America, or another foreign country, due to the common skin tone. All of the young children in the classroom seem to be focusing, intrigued, at a screen. Several of them have raised two fingers, suggesting that they are watching an educational interactive video regarding numbers and/or arithmetic, and perhaps a character or voice on the screen has instructed them to do so. A child with his arm playfully through a box suggests they have begun or recently completed a project.
Lydia A (utah )
These kids are all in class excited to learn something new. Their class is a bit over crowded but everyone is invest in the lesson or presentation they're being given. this is probably a commentary on how school and learning are important to children and kids should have better classes so that they can get the most out of it.
Josh B. (UCAS)
I think that it is a bunch of kids at school looking at a camera or something like that. My reasoning is that there are desks everywhere covered in supplies so my first thought was school. They are all looking at something and making peace signs like they are posing, and yet the teacher is uninterested so it must be planned. There is one older person in the background so if it is a camera it is facing to whole room except the teachers desk.
Silvia N. (UCAS)
This appears to be in an elementary school level classroom in a country outside of the United States. At first, I thought that they were possibly reacting to their teacher, but since the teacher is seated in the background, it makes me think that these kids could possibly be interacting with a guest of some sort. There are also a variety of different reactions from the kids that include them raising their hands or just staring in awe at what is before them. I would also guess that this is the first time the kids are having this experience because so many of them look very excited and surprised. Because of all these details in the picture, I would conclude that the kids are participating in a demonstration for their class.
Sean K (LCMS)
The kids in this picture are in a classroom. I know this because they have backpacks, furthermore, there is a teacher, books, pencils, scissors, and crayons. Whatever the kids are looking at is just important to them. I know this because the teacher in the corner has clearly no care for what the kids are looking at, additionally not all the kids are interested in it, additionally, the facial expressions on the kids are not of amusement, but rather of confusion. The thing that the kids are looking at could be an educational video. I know this because some of the kids are holding up 2 on their hands, moreover, some kids look confused and may not know the answer to the problem. All in all, the kids are watching an educational video that has asked them a question and the answer is 2. Not all of the kids know the answer and look confused.
Ryan P (Orem (but alternate reality orem))
In this picture, you can see many things right off the bat. First, the obvious; this is a classroom with several kids in it, meaning class is in session. Second, they're all looking at something, probably on the board. Third, there are many students holding their hands up with two fingers up, probably representing the number two. This most logically means they were told to solve a math problem which had two as the answer. It probably isn't math through, since the kids look way too ecstatic about what's going on. The kid in the yellow shirt in the middle area is clearly very distraught about what's happening, so maybe this is a more complicated problem than we thought. Also, the kid with the white glasses is probably looking past the two dimensional vision us mortal, frail beings were given to discover another angle of the given problem. There's also another transcending being in this photograph. Around the middle back area of the picture is a kid staring directly at the camera. He clearly knows about our existence. He can see our sins, our mistakes, and he is not pleased. That's about all I can pick up from this picture. It also appears to be raining but that's probably not important.
Jaden LCMS (LCMS)
In this picture, there are children in a classroom. I know this because there are children in a room with desks, school material on desks and a woman who is presumably a teacher. Furthermore, she looks to be reading or looking at something to teach the kids and she is in the usual spot a teacher would be in to teach (desk location). In addition, the children don’t appear to be rich. I know this as they appear to be wearing clothes that aren't cheat yet aren't too expensive and they are clean and don’t have overgrown hair. Moreover, the children appear to be watching something interesting. I know this because they are all looking at the screen, looking very entertained and they all have entertained looks on their faces. Therefore, there middle-class children in a classroom watching something that is very entertaining to them.
Mark D. (LCMS)
The picture takes place in a school. I know this because there are desks, chairs, papers, and pencils present. In addition, the children are learning something through a video. I can infer this because the children are watching something in awe and holding up two fingers possibly because someone asked what 2 times 1 is or a math-related question with the answer being two. Furthermore, the school takes place in a middle eastern country. I know this because of the children's skin color and the writing on a desk looks Arabian. In conclusion, the children are learning through a screen.
Jackson B. (LCMS)
The picture was taken in a classroom. I know this because there are children looking in a certain direction, probably at a board, and there are desks an pencils. Also, there are backpacks in the room. In addition, the children look confused. I know this they have confused and frustrated looks on their faces. Additionally they are looking at their fingers blankly. Furthermore, the lady sitting at the desk is probably a teacher. I know this because she is looking at a piece of paper, probably grading it, and she is the only adult in the room. Based on this evidence I can conclude there is a group of children in a classroom that are confused on a problem/situation.
Casey J (LCMS )
The kids in the picture might be in a classroom. I know this because there are backpacks, crayons, pencil cases and books. This picture looks like it was taken recently or not that long ago. I know this because the children are wearing modern-day clothing and one kid is wearing Vans. They seem to be fixated on something therefore, they could be looking at a screen or monitor of some sort. Based on the evidence, a picture of school children was taken while they were doing school work.
EMAY (NOWHERE)
Well considering as there are backpacks, desks, one large window, and all the kids look to be about the same age; I say that this is a classroom of students. The students look latino suggesting that the classroom is located in either Mexico or a highly populated area of latinos in America. All of them seem to be looking up in the same direction as if they're watching something. The hand signs can suggest that they are watching something American as the hand sign they are using is widely used in America and judging from the fact that they are not sitting quietly it may be something live such as a political speech.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@EMAY Thank you for your comment. Based off of the homogeneity of the children in the image you are wondering where this might be taking place. You are thinking that this could be a political speech on television and is shown by the way in which no one is in their seat. What more can you find?
Rebecca G (LCMS)
In this photo a group of children that are in a location that appears to be a classroom. I know this because there are school supplies in the photo. There are kids looking at something, perhaps a TV/screen and are raising two fingers towards it. Not everyone in the picture has two fingers held up, while others do. They all have a focused or interested facial expression. They might be watching a video that teaches the kids their numbers. That could be an explanation of why they all have two fingers held up. In addition, some kids look like they're still figuring out the answer, which is why everyone has a focused look on their face. The kids also appear young, so this a reasonable thing for them to learn. It could be an educational video that teaches kids numbers, which is why the kids are interested and focused, and also why the teacher is not interested or focused since she already knows.
Kalli H. (UCAS)
The first thing that is instantly clear is these are young kids, around 3rd grade or so, in a classroom. There are various school supplies scattered across the desk, and we can be lead to assume the lady in the corner is their teacher. It is likely they're doing some sort of interactive math game, based on the two fingers being held up sporadically across the class. This is clearly a modern photo, unlike some of the other pictures featured and seems to be placed in a heavily hispanic populated area.
Adam M. (UCAS)
Looks like some young chaps being chumps looking very animated. If you peek around it is clear to see that there are some whippersnappers present. They seem to be gazing at an elevated object. Some even raising their hand for a peace sign. The children have a darker skin tone and the floor seems to be foreign. This would lead to the conclusion that this picture might have possibly been taken in a conflicted hispanic country, quite possibly Venezuela. Then there's the teacher, all she seems to be entranced by is her papers so it could simply be a movie that she has seen multiple signs.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Adam M. Thank you for your comment. Similar to many other comments, you are wondering where this is taking place in what part of the world. You are thinking Venezuela. You are also looking at what could be the teacher in the image as well. What more can you find?
Caleb (Utah)
In this picture, there is a classroom full of kids that are watching something intently on the screen. It looks modern because of the clothes and shoes the kids are wearing. The video they are watching may be a video on how to count numbers, and the kids with their hands held up are practicing. The teacher isn't interested and is grading papers so a low level video like that is probable.
Jaclyn (Millard)
@Caleb Agreed
Michael (Utah)
I think that this is a classroom in poorer area, and the teacher just asked the students to pose for a picture. I also think that in whatever area they are in, the peace sign has more value or symbolism. This is because while a large amount of the students are doing it, a good amount of them still are not. If the teacher had told them to hold up the peace sign, more of them probably would have.
Jaclyn S (LCMS)
In this picture there are students learning. I know this because the kids in the picture are holding up numbers indicating that they are answering a question. The children are doing a project for the class. The girl in the front of the picture has crayons and scissors on her desk. Also, other kids in the back have other supplies on their desks. Children in this picture are looking at someone or something. All the children in this picture are engaged at looking at something that is higher than eye level. All in all, these children are being taught and are doing an activity with craft supplies.
Lainey S. (LCMS)
In the picture the kids are at school in their classroom. I can infer this because all around the room there are desks also, there is school supplies and backpacks on the desks and the floor. Additionally, the picture is a more recent taken picture. I can infer this because the clothes that all of the kids are wearing are clothes that you would find on kids today. Furthermore, perhaps that kids are watching an educational video that requires them to count along. I can infer this because they appear to be looking possibly at a TV. In Addition, some of the kids are holding up numbers with their hands that perhaps they are solving math problems and then holding up the answer. Overall, based on the evidence provided in the picture it is a more modern picture that takes place in a classroom where the kids are watching an educational video and holding up the answers to the questions on their hand.
Mianna k (LCMS)
In this picture, there are a bunch of kids in a classroom. I know this because their are desks, pencil cases, pencils, and bookbags. In addition, they are looking upwards at some type of screen. I know this because they are all very focused on something in front of/above them, and they are interacting with it, putting their hands up to show “2”.These children must be in primary or elementary school because they all look very young and small. From this evidence, I can conclude that elementary school students are watching a screen in school.
Zachary (Utah County Academy of Sciences)
In this image I see a group of children with their school supplies in a classroom mesmerized by something happening, most likely on a video at the front of the classroom with the exception of the kid in the orange shirt in the middle just chilling with his hands in his pockets, staring at the camera what an absolute legend. The video seems to be interactive somehow, so either they are following instructions, waving goodbye, or perhaps showing an answer
Rhys B (Orem)
In this photograph, you may notice that there are a few students in a classroom. Their attention seems to be collectively focused on one point, off camera. Their facial expressions and hand signals may lead you to believe that they are taking a class picture, and their amazed expressions and heads tilted upwards may imply that the photo is being taken by a drone or something near the ceiling of the classroom, but if you take a closer look, there's really only one explanation. Based off of the ambient lighting and the design/placement of the windows, it is clear that Tinker Bell flew into the classroom and all of the children are surprised by the visitation.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Rhys B Thank you for your comment. You also have a different opinion on what the children might be looking at, you think that it is something that maybe flying like a drone or a fairy. What do you see that makes you say that the object that they are looking at is one that is suspended in air or flying as opposed to not moving or fixed?
Debbie (Orem, UT)
The Rapture
Christian A (UCAS)
It looks like a group of children in school answering a question, I think this because you can see backpacks and school supplies. I think they are answering a question because some of the kids are holding their fingers, but it also could be that the class is looking at the board or a tv screen. You also see a adult in the corner of the the picture, which makes me think that it is the teacher or someone that helps the teacher.
Angela (Millard)
@Christian A I agree with what you said about the kids answering some sort of question in the front of the classroom.
Mason M (Millard)
@Christian A I would say the same, but I don't think the teacher is doing her job right.
Alyssa W (Orem)
I think in this picture all the kids are obviously looking at something high up on the ceiling or wall. They are all also in a school setting which is made obvious by the desks and paper. When I looked at it closer, some of the kids are holding up peace signs. This may suggest that there is actually a picture being taken from above. Also they all look surprised, which may suggest they're seeing something they haven't seen before.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Alyssa W Thank you for your comment. You have a different opinion. While others are thinking that they are looking at a television or screen, it seems like you are unsure at what they are looking at maybe something high up on the ceiling or something on the wall. What more can you find?
Isabella N. (U.C.A.S.)
The first thing I noticed about this picture was that it is a classroom. It is pretty obvious as it is full of children and desks with backpacks and traditional school materials that are scattered across the room. Another thing that points to it being a classroom are the posters on the back wall. What I'm thinking is that there is probably some sort of TV in the room that they are looking up at. Usually, if there is a TV in a classroom, it is higher up on the wall. The only thing that is really confusing to me is that several of them are holding their hands up in peace signs.
P Winchester (Millard)
@Isabella N. I agree with you about there being a TV in the classroom with the children.
Carter (AKA Lmyan Tmopsmop) (UCAS)
The picture shows children in a school somewhere having a video chat with kids in another school. This is because they are holding up peace signs to say they are nice, and they are all gazing amazedly at something.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Carter (AKA Lmyan Tmopsmop) Thank you for your comment. As many others have stated before you are thinking that this could be a picture of students on a video chat or call. What more can you find?
Lucas K (LCMS)
This picture takes place in a school. I know this because there are desks and chairs, which are common in school. Additionally, the people in the picture are mostly children. I can infer this because they are short in height. Furthermore, the children are watching a video. I can tell this because some of the children have their heads cocked toward something out of frame, possibly a video. Based on the evidence, children are watching a video in school.
Jakob T (Millard)
@Lucas K sounds correct
Amanda W (LCMS)
In the image above, I noticed that the picture was taken in a classroom. I know this because of the desks, chairs, and decorations on the back wall. Additionally, I noticed that the children in the photo are excited about something. I know this because of their shocked, but happy expressions, along with how they seem to be entertained by something. Furthermore, I noticed that the children look confused, or like something new is being shown to them. I know this because of their facial expressions. Overall, based on the evidence, I can infer that this is an image of children in a classroom being shown a new concept.
Aspen Rain (orem)
This seems to be a classroom setting, due to the desks and backpacks. The students seems to be younger, maybe 2-5th graders. They are all looking upwards, and I think it may be a tv or projection from a computer. There is a bright reflection in the window which may be the reflection of the projector image. Some of the children are holding up a peace sign, or maybe the number two. Perhaps they are doing a quiz and were asked to hold up the number they thought was the right answer on their hand.
Kristie (utah)
I think that they are in a classroom setting because of the desks and backpacks. They could be watching a movie or learning how to count or do math because some of them have two fingers up and that they all seem very focused or interested in what they are doing. Some look confused or that they are still figuring out what is going on or what the question might be.
Karl (Slipstream, JI)
There are many young lads and lasses in a room with desks and chairs. I would conject that this is indeed a classroom. I say this because of the layout of the room. THere are posters on the wall of kids work and desks in rows along the floor. In the corner of the picture I see an older woman appearing studious at her desk. I might even guess she is the teacher. Another giveaway that this is a classroom are the kids and what lies around them. There are multiple kids all around the same age in the picture. With them are backpacks, papers, pens, and pencils. All materials commonly found in a classroom. It appears as though they are posing for a picture or video of sorts. They are conjested near the center of the room and some of them are throwing up signs. This picture appears to be a young classroom taking a picture.
Gianna (Millard)
In the picture shown, you see a group of elementary school students. There's a light source facing the children so I can assume that their is possibly a smart board playing a video. The video is most like interactive since some kids are holding up the number 2 and the other students appear to be working towards an answer. the teacher is also doing work so she most likely us on the video to distract but also teach the children as she is busy.
Anden B. (LCMS)
This picture seems to depict a classroom full of students. I can conclude this because there are desks and school supplies like crayons and pencils, along with a teacher to the right of the photo. Additionally, it is clear something is happening in the front of the room which is capturing almost all of the students’ attention. I know this because almost every student is looking toward the front of the room and some are raising their hand and fingers to make the number two, emphasizing it might be a math problem of sorts. Similarly, the teacher doesn’t seem to care much about what is going on and appears disinterested. I know this because the teacher is in the corner staring at papers and doing her own work while not even glancing at the problem in front of the classroom. Overall, this photo represents a classroom full of young students whose attention is set on a math problem in the front of the room while a seemingly disinterested teacher continues her work.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Anden B. Thank you for your comment. Like many others you are noticing that the students are occupied with what is happening in front of them, possibly a math problem. You have identified the teacher in the picture as the person that is in the front working on her papers. What do you see that makes you say that she is the teacher?
Taylor M (LCMS)
This picture depicts a run down classroom. I know this because the room is little and dirty. Additionally this is set in a poorer neighborhood. I know this because the students are wearing clothes and shoes but they seem just a little bit older. In addition, the students seem to be looking at a whiteboard or something else, possibly with a question on it. I know this because the students eyes are all looking at the same area, and some of them are holding up two fingers which could possibly be their answer to the question on the board. In conclusion, this is set in a poor neighborhood with a run down classroom, and the kids are answering a question on the board.
Isabella M. (LCMS)
After looking at this picture I can see that it depicts a classroom of learning children. I know this because of the posters on the wall, the desks, and the supplies on the desks. Another thing I can see after viewing this picture is that all thr kids are interested in what they are learning. I know this because of their facial expressions and that they are all participating. Another thing I notice is that there is a lady in the lower right hand corner of the picture and I believe she is their teacher. I know this because she has her own separate desk and looks a lot older than all the other kids.
Lauren W. (Millard )
@Isabella M. Do you think that the students could be doing some research because I see posters in the back of the room but one student has a book and a paper on the book. Also, he has something in his hand like a writing utensil.
Logan K. (Utah)
The first thing I noticed is that all of these kids are in school. The reason I know this is because of all of the desks, and kids with backpacks. It also looks like this school is in a more poor country because there aren't enough desks to fit all of the students, and the walls are made out of bricks that were just painted over. I think that the kids are learning sign language because some of them are holding up what could be a word in a sign language.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Logan K. Thank you for your comment. Like many others, you are also wondering about the socio-economic status of the children and the schools. One point of difference, is that you are wondering if what they are doing is a type of language. What do you see that makes you say that it is sign language?
Yaime D. (Orem)
In this picture, the setting looks like it could be in a school. All the students are probably looking at the board or perhaps TV. Most of them are copying what they see, while others are just looking. They could possibly be looking at an educational video because there is a teacher far off to the right in the corner just looking at papers. She doesn't seem too interested in what the students are doing.
Treven (UCAS)
This picture seems to be set in another country. The children are all fixated at something above and in front of them. Some seem very focused on what may be a television while others seem to be posing for a picture, hence the peace signs that some of them are holding up. The schoolroom seems kind of old and run down considering that the desks are well worn and the brick walls are painted with a very aged look. It would make sense that they have some sort of new technology that they haven’t had before in the classroom considering the interested looks and smiles on their faces.
Colby (Utah)
This is obviously a classroom setting. They seem to be watching something; maybe a video that is being projected. most of the students are very focused on what they are watching. The thing I cant make sense of is why half of the students are holding up two fingers. They might be doing some kind of craft based upon the stuff that is sitting on the front couple desks. They might even be watching a video on how to do some craft.
Annie P. (UCAS)
I believe this picture to be of a classroom in a country outside of the US. The kids are staring very intently that is up from and a little bit higher than they are. I am inferring that they are either playing a game that will help them learn a subject or they are being taught but someone who is being broadcasted. If the game, then it probably deals with math seeing as some of the students have two fingers up, possibly giving the answer to a math equation.
lauren (Newport)
1:kids holding up peace sines 2:looks like students 3:learning 4:desks 5:variety of kids What i think is gong on in this pitcher is that there are children learning something about ether adding or other things. They all seem to be looking up so it might be math. They might also be showing respect to something.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Lauren Thank you for your comment. You are agreeing with many comments before you and you think that they might be adding something, possibly math. You are aisles thinking that they maybe showing respect in someway. What do you see that makes you say that the students are showing respect?
Jordan (Newport)
~Kids looking up ~There all in class it looks. ~Some kids have their hands in the air with peace signs. ~They look concentrated or looking up at the board maybe. ~They look like there in a school kinda small classroom doing work. I think that these kids might be doing a fun game or work on a board with their hands up answering curtain questions that are on the board. I think it might be fun because the kids are smiling and look like there enjoying what there doing. Sense there hand that's in the air with two fingers up could be the answer there giving the teacher or parent in the front of the room.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Jordan Thank you for your comment. Many others have pointed out how the students have what look like peace signs; however to you these peace signs could be an answer or some type of signal. What do you see that makes you say that?
Claire (AOSE)
@Jordan What makes you think they are doing classwork if they are mostly standing up? What type of classwork could they be doing?
Hannah K. (AOSE)
I see a group of children that are in a location that appears to be a classroom. I know this because there are backpacks, pencil cases, crayons, and books in the image. There are kids looking at something, perhaps a TV/screen and are raising two fingers towards it. Not everyone in the picture has two fingers held up, while others do. However, one thing all the kids have in common is they all have a focused/interested facial expression. They might be watching a video that teaches the kids their numbers. That could be an explanation of why they all have two fingers held up. Also, other kids look like they're still figuring out the answer, which is why everyone has a focused look on their face. The kids also appear young, so this a reasonable thing for them to learn. There is a teacher on the far right side of the corner, looking at papers. She does not seem interested in what's on the screen, which shows there is nothing of serious content on the screen. It could be an educational video that teaches kids their numbers, which is why the kids are interested and focused, and also why the teacher is not interested or focused since she already knows. The majority of the kids appear to be Hispanic, which could mean that the school is in a Hispanic country. This picture looks like it was capturing a recent event because the kids in the picture appear to be wearing modern-looking clothes. For example, one boy at the front is wearing a sports shirt and has vans (a modern type of shoe).
jenna (omaha ne)
@Hannah K. It could be a teacher we don't have the answers. For all we know it could be a student who was held back.
Hannah K. (AOSE)
@jenna I agree. That could be a possibility.
Bella.T (AOSE)
In this picture, there are many children sitting in a room at desks. Since there are various school supplies on the desks and a few backpacks on the chairs, I assume that these children are in a classroom. There is also a woman in the corner of the room doing work. She could possibly be their teacher. Most of the children are looking up above them which leads me to believe that they are looking at a screen. Many kids are holding up two fingers or a peace sign. Because of that I believe that they are either participating in an interactive math game or they are video chatting with someone.
Logan K. (Utah)
@Bella.T good job on catching the woman in the background. I didn't see her at first until I read your post.
Bella.T (AOSE)
@Logan K. Thank you
Alan H. (UCAS)
Right off the bat, it is very apparent that these are students in a classroom based on the desks and school supplies throughout. There is a kid with a textbook as well, and it appears that the females in the classroom are wearing some kind of uniform. The classroom looks very packed, so it's possible it may be a kind of assembly. The country of origin is likely from somewhere in South America based on the color of the children. It appears they are looking at some kind of screen above them, they're probably on a video chat, due to the attentiveness of the children and their eagerness to be in the view.
Rhys B (Orem)
@Alan H. good observations, I agree. I didn't really consider the possibility of it being a video call but seems very possible now that you pointed it out
Kristie (utah)
@Alan H. I agree and think that your explanations are great and valid.
Isabella N. (U.C.A.S.)
@Alan H. I didn't even notice that the girls appear to be wearing the same outfit, nice observation!
Gideon (southeast corner of the classroom)
At first, I thought that the teacher was asking the kids it they knew the answer to a problem, but I noticed that the teacher was quietly sitting at her desk. I noticed that some of the kids are holding up two fingers and I immediately thought "Dora". I was thinking they were watching Dora where she asks how many iguanas there are in the trees or something. However, there is that one kid who is holding a notebook and writing in it, so maybe it isn't Dora. I think there is a instructor in the front of the class talking about political stuff.
Annie P. (UCAS)
@Gideon I like the reference there. It's a great one. Bit of a stretch, but a great one nonetheless.
Rhys B (Orem)
@Gideon dora
Carter (AKA Lmyan Tmopsmop) (UCAS)
@Gideon Political stuff? Haha but for real, what do you mean by political stuff, and why? Interesting idea, about Dora, I hadn't thought about it that way.
Emily (UCAS)
I think that it is in some other country and there is a screen up front where the kids might be facetiming someone to the first time. The reason I think this is because the kids are all looking up at something, amazed.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Emily Thank you for your comment. It sounds like you are looking at the way in which the children are fixated on what is in front of them. It may be a FaceTime or some type of internet communication. What do you see that makes you say that this could be the first time FaceTiming?
Annie P. (UCAS)
@Emily I love this inference! I thought that something was being broadcasted as well!
Kalli H. (UCAS)
@Emily at first I was thinking it could be some sort of video chat or something of the sort, but I figured the teacher would be more engaged if they were talking with someone else.
Tyler M (Rainbow Road)
In this picture, the children are in a classroom, presumably watching a broadcast or show. They are definitely school children, shown by the school supplies and desks and chairs. They are watching maybe a presentation with some sort of political figure, shown by the hand gestures they are making.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Tyler M Thank you for your comment. You are looking at the way in which the students are interacting to what is in front of them, and you think that they may be watching a political broadcast or show. What do you see that makes you say that?
Timothy (Utah)
In the motion picture, The Hunger Games, something that the rebellion does is whistle a tune and hold up two fingers. I think that a hole in the roof opened up and a vortex to that dimension appeared. These students are gathered around in awe and are showing their respects to Everdeen. A few of the kids are confused and have no clue what is going on, hence the surprise in their faces.
Karina M (UCAS)
In this picture, there is a classroom full of kids. Based on the condition of the desks, and the style of the classroom, one can assume that the place is relatively old. The children are all mostly wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts, which lets me know that they are in a warm environment. The children are all looking at the front of the room, smiling and making peace signs, which shows that there is probably someone up there, whether in person or digitally. The kids look elementary age, and most look intrigued and interested.
Carson W. (Sicko Mode)
This photograph is a picture of kids watching Big Shaq present the new Old Spice® product.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Carson W. Thank you for your words. It sounds like you are making a connection to watching television or commercials on television. What more can you find?
Nicole H. (Orem)
This is a bunch of kids in a school taking a picture. All of them appear to be pretty young, so I want to say 4th grade(by the U.S. grade school scale) and the desks and backpacks make me think it is a school. The woman in the picture is most likely a teacher because she is sitting in a desk at the front of the room. They are taking a picture because the kids are all looking at the same spot and some are holding up peace signs while some of them are smiling.
Suna R. (Ansan, South Korea)
In this picture, a group of small children seem to be posing for a picture inside their classroom since a lot of them are holding up peace signs. The children are looking up at something, like as if someone was taking a photo of these young students. I can see that there are school materials and books scattered on the students' desks, so that might mean that they were in the middle of a lecture and suddenly stopped because the teacher wanted to take a picture of them. The children have dark skin, so they might be Latino or Hispanic.
Tyler K. (UCAS)
From the various school supplies, the age of the kids, and the desks all around the scene, this is obviously a classroom. The kids are intrigued by something, while the teacher is off to the side. This suggests they are watching a video that the teacher put on. I am willing to bet that the peace symbol some of the kids are making has something to do with the video. I think that they are watching a speech.
Rose S. ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
This is a photo of a group of young students in a classroom setting (there are desks and various school supplies strewn around), and are participating in some type of activity. At first I thought that some of the children were holding up peace signs, but that didn't really make sense to me in the presumed context of this picture. Because of this I turned to the children actually holding up 'two' perhaps in answer to a math problem or other question being displayed on an unseen screen or board.
Abby J. (UCAS)
Based on the notebooks, desks, and the amount of kids, I'm guessing this is a classroom with elementary aged children. I would also guess that the classroom is in a Latino country or a specific classroom for Latino kids, but I am not 100% sure. I also noticed what faces the kids were making towards one end of the room and guessed that they were either making a video or possibly facetiming.
Cody A (UCAS)
What immediately stands out is that there's a large group of children looking toward one point with desks surrounding the majority of them. This is most likely a school, with the teacher teaching math, judging by a few of the children holding up numbers on their fingers. The answer to the problem is most likely two, as all the children are holding up that number. These children are currently somewhere in the middle east, with the writing inscribed on the side of the desk on the lower center of the picture.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Cody A Thank you for your comment. Similarly to many comments, you are also thinking that they may be in a class learning about math. Like others you are also attempting to find a geographic location to where this might be, and for you this looks like a country in the Middle East based off the writing inscribed on a desk. What do you see that makes you say that, it could be writing?
eli (ucas)
To me this looks like kids in a poor country like africa or guatemala learning or try ing to learn how to read and wright. Also they all look really poor hence my thought on them living in a poor country. Also since their are so many books and a backpack got me thinking that their in school. another reason i am thinking that their in another country is because the class room is not that nice with means a poor school system.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Eli Thank you for your comment. It seems like many others you are also thinking about the economic means of the students as well as the school. You are seeing the students and their attire or clothing and thinking it could mean that they are not economically wealthy. To you, this classroom does not look nice. What do you see that makes you say that the room is not "nice"?
Jill (Utah)
This photo displays an elementary age group of children in class. They seems to not be in a formal session of class based on how their desks are in place- some are also sitting on desks, standing up, etc. They also seem to know the picture is being taken from the way they are posing for the picture. Another interesting aspect of this picture is that all the children seemed to be well dressed and clean, while the school building itself looks rather run down.
Kamry A (Utah)
Students are in a classroom, but its feel like a little room so it may be a run down school. Keeping in mind the children are wearing nice shoes and all are fully clothed, so it can not be too poor. The classroom has posters in it, most likely drawn by the kids, making the room more comforting. It does though have bars on the windows creating a less comforting vibe, plus the walls are just brick. Students are learning actively and all seem interested in the lesson.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Kamry A Thank you for your comment. You are noticing the background and also picking up on details of the environment. Specifically, you are looking at the brick walls and the barred windows, and it seems like you are wondering about the comfort that may or may not cause. You are also thinking about the economic status of the students and you see that they are wearing clothing that does not indicate poverty to you. What more can you find?
Jocelyn A (UCAS)
The photo depicts a group of students, most likely ages five to seven years-old, looking towards the front of the classroom. I am guessing that the room they're in is a classroom due to the scattered supplies, backpacks, and posters hung up on the walls, not to mention the woman at the front of the room sitting at a very teacher-looking desk. Based on the children's mesmerized expressions and poses, I think they are taking a class picture of some kind or possibly video chatting with someone.
Nathan M. (Orem)
There are a bunch of students in a classroom looking up. Some of them are doing the bunny ears thing so maybe they are taking a picture or they know that their picture is being taken. Everyone is looking up so maybe there is a camera mounted up high and everyone is looking up at it while some students in the back are trying to be funny. They are definitely at school due to the desks and backpacks. Some kids look confused so maybe this is a new piece of technology to the kids. Everyone has a darker skin tone so maybe it doesn't take place in America.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Keitht , @EvaR , @SkylarC. , and @EricaS Thank you for your comments. You all are investigating what the children in this image are doing. All of you are noticing that it is taking place in a classroom based off the materials like pencils, notebooks, desks, and the environment. @Keitht you were pointing out a label or logo for a clothing company called Wilson and simply wondering about that, while others are attempting to understand what the students might be looking at. There are multiple interpretations given by you all. The children might be answering a question about math or something a substitute teacher put up. Others think that they might be on Skype or watching a presentation. What do you all say that makes you say one (watching presentation) as opposed to the other (answering question)?
Liam R (UCAS)
I think these are kids in a school in some other country. I concluded that they are in a school because there are several kids and they have backpacks and school supplies. Now that I have clarified that they are students, what are they doing? I believe the kids are on a video chat with a school in a different part of the world. I remember in elementary school that sometimes we would have video calls with a school in Africa, I think that these students are on a call with some other school and are waving and giving the peace sign to their new friends.
Dagan H. (UCAS)
@Liam R I like how you made a connection between yourself and the picture to help you figure out what is going on.
Nathan M. (Orem)
@Liam R Hey, that's not too bad of an idea there
Kate C (UCAS)
@Liam R That is a really interesting idea. I like how you drew on personal experience to inform you assumption.
Xien (The Monarch House)
There is some writing or drawing on the desk. That makes me think this is somewhere around Asia or the middle east. There are girls in the place that looks like a school, so I infer they are in a place where women are allowed to go to school. My guess is India. A classroom in India.
Hana (UCAZ)
In this photo is a group of kids in a classroom. I know this because of the commonly found supplies located on their desks. This school is located in an unsafe neighbor because of the barred windows. These kids are also posing in a picture because of there cute little peace signs and also the kids putting bunny ears behind each other.
Cody A (UCAS)
@Hana This is a good guess, your reasoning isn't flawed. I dunno about the unsafe neighborhood though, look at UCAS, we're in a pretty safe location with barred windows too.
Ana W (UCAS)
It's evident that these kids are in a classroom because of the desks and the similar ages. They are all focusing on the same thing, some of them posing, which makes me think that the kids are looking at a video of them or getting ready for a picture. I think it's more likely that they're looking at a sort of reflection of the classroom, either in a game or through a camera's view. I would guess that this is somewhere in south america or Mexico as the kids have a darker skin tone and look ethnic.
Nicole H. (Orem)
@Ana W I like that you assert that they are looking at a reflection.
Dagan H. (UCAS)
From the information I gathered fro this picture, I concluded that it is a classroom in which children are learning how to count to the number 2. I know this because there are several children holding up 2 fingers. I know not the location nor the race of people they are. It seems like a kind of low budget school in comparison to the ones in the United States of America.
Liam R (UCAS)
@Dagan H. How interesting. I am very pleased with your conclusion and the way that you came to it amazes me. Counting the #2 was a brilliant conclusion but I believe it would be better if you figured out where they are.
Tyler K. (UCAS)
@Dagan H, I think that they look a little old to just be learning how to count. It could also be a peace sign.
Timothy (Utah)
@Dagan H., I do think that the two fingers is very important to the meaning of the image.
Brian R. (UCAS)
It seems to be a school as kids have backpacks and stuff. They are all looking towards the front of the room maybe watching a movie or something. One has a notebook and maybe is taking notes. They could also be learning numbers and that's why they are doing the peace sign.
Thomas.B (UCAS)
A group of Latino students is in a Detroit classroom. Th groups is in a classroom that has some graffiti on the front desk and the windows are barred. The students also seem to very disorganized and a teacher is of on the side.
Kate C (UCAS)
These children are in a school, evidenced by the desks, backpacks, school supplies, and the woman studying in the right side of the image. They are looking at a camera or a drone with a camera because the thing they are looking at is high up, and several kids are making peace signs. This is something people do when looking at a camera and having their picture taken.
Chassyn (Utah)
These children are all looking at one main thing that is not shown in the image. Likely they are in a classroom because of the desks and school supplies and backpacks. They all look about the same age, maybe 7 or 8. They seem excited and are holding up two fingers in the air. Maybe they are watching some sort of sports game or national program. It is possible that they are solving a math problem or maybe even a different language because it is evident they are from a different country.
Brandon J (UCAS)
In this picture a bunch of kids are in a classroom. I think this is a classroom because of the desks and the writing utensils. I also think that they are in a video call with somebody because the kids are acting as though their actions can be seen (the peace signs). I am also guessing this is something out of the norm for the classroom because everyone is so intent on the screen.
Keith t (LMS)
In this photo, a group of children are in a classroom. Because every person in the room is a child and there are various school materials like desks, notebooks, backpacks and pencils, it is obvious the children are in a classroom. Also, this class is specifically for latino children. This can be noted by the fact that every child in the room is latino. Another fact that can be seen, is that the backpack to the top right of the girl at the bottom of the photo is made by Wilson. This is very obvious because it says on the backpack “Wilson”. In conclusion, a group of latino children are in a classroom in a class specifically for them, and there is a backpack made by Wilson to the top right of the girl in the bottom of the picture.
faruk.r (Millard )
@Keith t very informative
Eva R (LCMS)
In this picture it looks like these kids were doing arts and crafts earlier. I know this because there is pencils, cut paper, scissors, and crayons all over the desks. Additionally, I notice is that their classroom is on one of the higher levels. I know this because when you look out the window, you do not see the ground, and it appears like they are up high in general. A third and final thing I notice is that these kids are trying to figure something out in front of them. It could be a math problem of some sort. I know this because some kids are tilted their heads slightly, and looking intently at the front of the room. Some of the other kids are holding up numbers on their hands also. In this picture, I notice a group of kids that are not on ground level that were previously doing arts and crafts, and are now trying to figure a problem out in the front of the class.
Chassyn (Utah)
@Eva R this seems like a logical response, but how do you know they are trying to figure out a problem?
Treven (UCAS)
@Eva R This seems like a reasonable response but my question is why are they looking up to answer a math problem?
Skylar C. (LCMS)
To start, this picture takes place in a classroom. I know this because there are young children sitting at desks. Additionally, there are backpacks on the backs of chairs and a couple stroon around the floor. The kids are answering a question. I know this because the kids are looking up at something in the front of the picture. In addition, some of the kids have their hands raised with two fingers up. One child has his head tilted sideways in confusion. Furthermore, the teacher is not in class today. I know this because there is a lady in the corner sitting at a giant desk reading a lot of papers. Based on the evidence, the kids are answering a question the substitute teacher put up front in a classroom.
Erica S (LCMS)
This picture takes place in a classroom I know this because I can see children in a building with desks and chairs surrounding them, indicating this is in a school. Additionally, there appears to be something placed higher up, either on the board, or the wall itself. I know this because most of the kids are looking up into the air above them, which helps signify that something interesting in up there. Furthermore, the kids might be watching a presentation. I know this because some the kids are holding up peace signs which in most schools, is a silent way of telling someone to quiet down so there must be something interesting. All in all, the children are watching a presentation on something interesting whilst in school.
Sarah M (LCMS)
In the picture, there are a group of children during class. I know this because there are desks with chairs and papers, backpacks, and pencil cases. Additionally, the children are doing a math problem. I know this because all the children are looking at the board. In addition, some kids are holding up 2 fingers that could represent the answer to the problem. Furthermore, the kids go to an elementary school. I know this because the kids are small and young. Based on the evidence, children are learning in an elementary school.
Allyson B (LCMS)
This image was taken in a school setting. I can tell this because there are students, backpacks, desks, and chairs. Additionally, the students look as if they are solving some sort of math problem. I can tell this because they are all holding up the number two with their fingers. Moreover, the students in this class are looking at a chalk board or whiteboard. I know this because their eyes are all focused to the right of the picture, which would be the front of the room. Based on this evidence, this image was taken in a school setting where students are paying close attention to the front of the classroom while solving a math problem.
Munickat (PeACE Academy)
A group of children is excited to be communicating with a different group of people via a Google Hangout. I say this because everyone is looking up, as if at a TV screen, seated around desks like in a classroom. A few children are giving peace signs, which makes me think they are actually communicating with someone.
Chassyn (Utah)
@Munickat your assumption is very interesting because there isn't actually any proof that it is google hangouts or a tv that these children are looking at, but the communication part might be correct.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Munickat Thank you for your comment. Similar to many others you are thinking about what these students might be looking at, and to you, it seems like they may be having a conversation via Google Hangout. You noticed the way in which they are gathered and are sending what could be peace signs out to whatever or whomever they are looking at. What more can you find?
Jamar M. (LCMS)
It appears that in the picture, there are students in a classroom looking at something to their interest. I know this because in the picture, multiple students are standing up extremely focused on something out of frame. Also, within the picture it seems that there is mainly hispanic children. I know this because there are no other races in the picture. This may indicate where the photo was taken. Furthermore, the thing that the children are focused on must have to do with the number two or just numbers in general. I can infer this because multiple students have two fingers in the air, they may possibly be answering a question. All in all, the picture is of hispanic children in a classroom focused on something related to numbers.
Matthew,R (LCMS)
This is a picture of a group of kids in a school. I know this because there is a few desks seen and a teacher in the background and a group of kids. In addition, the kids are watching something maybe on a tv. I can conclude this because the kids are all looking up to the front of the room possibly at a tv that is mounted on the wall. Furthermore, these kids are all in the same grade possibly an elementary school that is public. I know this because they look all the same age and are not wearing a uniform just regular clothes. Therefore, as the evidence shows this is a group of public elementary school kids watching something at the front of the room.
Zachery. D (LCMS)
I believe the kids are in a classroom setting. I know this because there is pictures on the wall, backpacks, desks, and one student is working in the bottom right corner. I also think it is a math class. I believe this because some students are holding up two fingers, as to answering some sort of math problem. Furthermore, I believe the photo is set at a night school. I think this because in the window it seems to be night. To sum up, the photo shows kids in math class at a night school.
Joseph P (LCMS)
This picture takes place in a classroom. I know this because there are kids, as well as backpacks on the floor and school supplies on the desk. Additionally, the kids see something in the classroom. I know this because all the kids are standing up looking in the same direction. Also, some kids have a confused look on their faces. Furthermore, the kids are looking up at a camera. I know this because they are all looking up at the same spot, besides the teacher, and some kids are smiling and holding up peace signs. Based on the evidence, this picture shows a group of kids in a classroom, looking up at something, which turns out to be a camera.

In this picture, it appears that a group of children are in a school. I know this because you can see multiple desk and books, making it look like they are in a learning environment. In addition to that, the children are in 2md or 3rd grade. I know this because based on their looks and height they look to be around 8-10 years old. Furthermore, the students in the picture are currently learning a concept. I know this because they are shown to be all looking in the same direction, possibly at a whiteboard. Along with that, some children are raising their hands to answer a question. Thus, based on the evidence, the students in the school are participating in a learning activity.
Erin S (LCMS)
This picture was taken inside of a classroom. I know this because there are desks visible and someone who appears to be a teacher sitting in the front of the room. Additionally, this photo was taken in modern times. I know this because the quality of the photo, and the clothes that the children are wearing suggests this was taken in modern times. Furthermore, the students in the photo seem to be learning math. I know this because they are holding up a number of fingers as if answering a question. All in all, there is a group of students in a modern day classroom learning math.
Olivia L (LCMS)
In this picture, there are a bunch of kids that appear to be in a classroom. I can infer this because there are desks and school things like papers and pencils around and there is what appears to be a teacher sitting at her desk. In addition, the kids look like they are in 2nd or 3rd grade. I can infer this because the kids are short and i can tell by their faces that they are younger. Additionally, the students might be watching some type of video. I can infer this because they are all looking up at a screen. Overall, the students are watching a video in a classroom.
Emily H (LCMS)
In this picture, the group of kids is at school. I know this because they have desks, pencil cases, and backpacks out. Additionally, they are watching something on a t.v. I know this because they are all looking up at the other side of the room and t.vs are usually mounted on the wall. Furthermore, some of them are excited. I know this because a group of the kids is smiling and have excited looks on their faces. In short, this a group of excited kids at school, watching something on a t.v.
Jody G (Orem, Utah)
They all seem to be looking at the board and very interested in what's going on. Are they participating in some virtual lesson or playing some game? The classroom doesn't seem to be very quality, so I'm guessing it's in a poorer community.
eli (ucas)
i agree but i also think that their in a different country more then likely guatemala
Bianca C (LCMS)
In this photograph, there are children at a school, This is most likely because of these people’s appearance and the way they dress, and they are at a school because of the desks, chairs, backpacks, and the teacher whom is present in the background. The children are looking at something and they are fascinated by it. I made this conclusion by looking at the kid’s facial expressions and they all appear to be glancing in the same direction. What the kids are fascinated by, is a new piece of technology. I can tell this, for there is a glare in the window that makes a reflection which looks like a television. Therefore, these children are fascinated by a new television they received at school.
Cannon (UCAS)
My first thought was that they were doing some sort of math problem because they were holding up two fingers, possibly the answer to a math problem, however, they look very engaged and not all of them look like they are doing the math problem. So what I think it is currently is some type of video chat with someone. The two fingers could be peace signs since all of their fingers are spread out and they are all looking at the front of the class.
Abigail (France )
I believe that the picture displaces a school activity with latino elementary school kids possibly learning math or skyping someone. Based on the environment and the school utensils we can tell its at a school, and based on age its an elementary. I think they could be learning math based on their fingers in the air. It could also be a skype call based on there hands.
Bohnny S. (Orem, UCAS)
There are several factors that make me think this is a video call to a classroom in a South American country. I believe these are students because they are children, they have backpacks school supplies, and they are in a room with desks. I think they are from somewhere in South America because everyone of them has a darker complexion. I think they are participating in a video call because they are all looking at the same place, they are making hand gestures that are normally made when communicating to other people, and they all seem to be congregated in the same part of the classroom.
Gracie (Utah)
It looks like these kids are posing for a photo. They are all looking at a specific point and holding up peace signs.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Gracie Thank you for your comment. It sounds like you are wondering about what the children may be doing and you are thinking that they might be posing for a photo because they are fixated on one point holding up what could be peace signs. What more can you find?
Brennan P. (Orem)
It seems to me that based upon the backpack on that front row, and the countries that wilson sells in, we're probably looking at Brazil in location. It seems that they are looking up to the camera for some sort of photo, maybe commemorating some sort of competition, maybe a class photo.
Taylor Haws (ucas)
I think that these students are being introduced to a new piece of technology. it looks like they are staring at a screen and interacting to a certain extent. maybe some type of virtual classroom or something
leslie (utah)
I think there is some kind of presentation going on because the kids are participating. Also the teacher on the side isn't paying attention and maybe she's grading paper or something.
Aubree (Orem)
The picture looks like a group of students looking at a board. Some of the kids are holding up two fingers. At first I thought it would be some sort of countdown for a party/summer. However, some of the kids don't look too excited. It seems more like they are on something like a skype call. Because they are all looking at the board and they are all gathered closer in the middle.
Suna R. (Utah)
@Aubree I would agree with this because the kids do look like they are posing for something.
Anonymous Fish (Orem UCAS)
it is hard to tell, but I think that these are a bunch of kids in a classroom that much is certain. my main conclusion is that they are answering some type of question and the reasoning for it is that some of the kids look confused and some are not really paying attention.
Noah (Utah)
In this picture, there appears to be a classroom of students responding to something that they see on the board. They are holding up fingers, which makes me think they are looking at a math problem. All of the students appear to be hispanic, which would lead me to believe that they are somewhere in Mexico or Southwest United States. The students all appear to be wearing decent clothes, and one kid has a pair of vans on, which leads me to believe that this is not a poor group of kids.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Noah Thank you for your comment. Like many others, you are noticing that this seems to be a classroom. As you investigate the image, you are seeing that they might be from a homogenous racial or ethnic group which could tell the viewer where this is located geographically. You are offering a counterpoint to many of the comments that came before you, and you are thinking that this may be taking place in the United States or Mexico. Based off their clothing and brands that you can identify, you are thinking that they are not economically disadvantaged. What more can you find?
Jacqueline M (Utah)
I think this picture is from somewhere in central or South America. The children seem to be looking at a camera or screen. They are holding up a "peace" sign which is usually done for a photograph. I think the children are taking a group picture or video chatting with someone
Jade (Orem, UT)
I think that the children in the photo are posing for a photo. The children are all gathered in the center of the room, looking up at a given point, and some are making signs and smiling at a likely camera. Given the latest news and the ethnicity of the children I am making an educated guess that this is a school in Venezuela. If this is in Venezuela, or a similar country, I would say this is a relatively nice school. It also appears to be in the city, because out the window you can see another building very close.
Jeffrey M. (Orem)
I believe these are children in a school because they have backpacks and some are wearing uniforms. This may be in Venezuela or another latin country. They are focused on what might be the teacher. The students might also be learning math because they are holding up fingers.
yikes (California)
I think that this is a school probably in south america possibly just getting a smart board or projector maybe they are talking to pen pals from across the country.
Hannah K. (AOSE)
@yikes Based on the picture, what leads you to assume that the school is located in South America?
Kennon B. (Orem, Utah)
I think that this takes place in a classroom in Mexico or the US border. The kids are all staring at the wall and in a classroom if that is happening there is probably a whiteboard there. Many of them are holding up two finders, so I think they are finding the answer of a math problem and those that are not holding up their answer have not found it yet.
Stockton (Cavasna, Romania)
The kids in a classroom are doing one of two things: 1 They could be learning a lesson and are looking at the board where there is a skype thing going on. 2 They are counting down and looking at the clock until something happens in two sec/min.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Stockton Thank you for your comment. You are really trying to figure out what the students are doing. In your observation, this can be a part of a lesson or some type of countdown. What do you see that makes you say that?
Ashley (Utah)
A group of students says hi to a new virtual teacher projected on the classroom wall over skype.
H.C (USA )
This picture was taken in a classroom, with lots of kids. They all seem to be facing a screen or something that catches their attention. Maybe a T.V or a camera. They seem pretty captivated by what they are looking at it. The person in the right corner seems indifferent, maybe she is the teacher. Also, judging by the children's appearance, this picture might have been in taken in South America, including the resent politic dishevelment in Venezuela, it might be even more relevant to suggest that this picture was taken in South America.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@H.C Thank you for your comment. It seems like you agree with many other comments, you are also wondering where this might be taking place. Recent events in the news, lead you to think that this may be taking place in a South American country. You are also thinking about what the children may be looking at on the screen. What do you see that makes you say that the students look "captivated by what they are looking at"?
Cody B. (Orem)
It appears to be a school in Central America, judging from the lack of diversity among students, or maybe somewhere that the specific ethnic group is more dense compared to somewhere else in the world. The students seem to be actively learning and participating. It looks like they have some sort of choice, as they look old enough to know what 1+1 is.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Cody B. Thank you for your comment. From your observations, it seems like you are attempting to geographically pin point the location in which this is taking place. Based off of the homogeneity of the students, you are thinking it could be somewhere in one of the Central American countries as opposed to being in the United States. In addition, you are also thinking about the age group of the children. What more can you find?
Tayah (Utah)
I think that they are are 4th or 5th graders and they could have got a new game or program to help them learn. It could be for math since some of the students are holding up numbers. Another student seems to be holding a book and taking notes, and it looks like a math book. They all seem to be pretty engaged, and the teacher doesn't look like she's teaching anything, which makes me think that it is some sort of interactive game on a projector.
Ryan H. (Utah)
It is clearly evident that the children are in a classroom due to the backpacks and desks. It appears that the students are engaging something exciting as they are all gathered around whatever they are looking at or watching. As such they could be watching an exciting math video (fingers), or watching a countdown (again due to the fingers). However, they could also be watching a soccer game they find captivating (that the teacher clearly does not). The area may be in a semi affluent area as they don't appear overly poor and seem to have decent school supplies. They also all appear to be of latino descent leading one to believe it takes part in S./Central America or in the Sun Belt of the U.S.
Moy (Trinidad)
Kids are all looking at one point in the room. It is a classroom because they are all around the same age, and have desks. They seem to be looking at a camera, or skyping someone. They could be doing the peace sign, as a signal to say goodbye.
Shamaya (Czechoslovakia)
They are all looking up at a board, and one of them has a book out. They could be playing a game or studying for some sort. It could be in south america.
Arca (New Jersey)
In this picture, a classroom full of small children are witnessing the infamous celebrity rabbit Big Chungus for the first time. I can tell that they are students because they have desks with supplies such as pencils and paper on them. It must be a very large person or thing that they are looking at, since they are all squinting and looking up. Some look overjoyed, others look surprised and in awe. Some of them are making "bunny ears" with their fingers (or peace signs). What thing is big, has bunny ears, and loves children? Big Chungus, of course. Why would he be at a school? Well, these children are very small, so they may be listening to a motivational speech. Big Chungus may be showing them how no matter what size or height you start out as, you too can become big and powerful. You can make a difference, regardless of how big your are, since he would be showing them the importance of following "big" dreams. But the teacher doesn't seem to notice, which makes sense, since the imaginary figure Big Chungus can only be seen by children (or children at heart). Big Chungus does tour schools all over the world, so it would make sense that while it is definitely an unexpected visitor, one that is almost as high as the ceiling (or taller) is what's happening here.
sab (utah)
This looks like a classroom full of kids from different schools hence the ties and regular clothes. It looks like there is a presentation going on because it looks like an adult is sitting at the desks on the right side of the picture grading. The children look very into whatever the presenter is saying because they are rising their hands with the number 2.
Maria T (Utah)
I think that there is a teacher at the front of the room, where all the kids are looking. And it could be a math lesson because they are holding up two fingers. It looks like they are around eight years old. This could be a school in Mexico.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Welcome to the discussion @bob @faze tenser @Savion. Let's hear more from you all! Keep looking. What more can you find? What visual evidence can you provide for your ideas?
Bulldog Academy (Thomasville NC)
6th Grade and 7th Grade ELA, 3rd Block: Student 1: Students are learning something in class. Why isn't' the teacher looking at the board? Student 2: Could be playing a guessing game because they are all looking up at the board. Could it be a Math problem? Boy in brown shirt appears to be taking notes. Students are holding up their fingers. Could there be another teacher out of the frame? They could be in the US, but students appear Hispanic.
Jack (Berlin ct)
i think that they are in a classroom learning a math lesson. I think this because they are holding up two fingers like 1+1=2
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
@Jack, good morning! You're interpreting their raised hand gestures as representing numbers, possibly in a math lesson. What more can we find?
Jack (Berlin ct)
I think they are having a math lesson. I think this because some of the students are holding up two fingers like 1+1=2
Bella.T (AOSE)
@Jack I think this is a logical response. Is there anything in the room that leads you to believe that the children are students?
Mrs. Wright's Krispy Savages (Connecticut)
We see that the students are all looking at a specific point in the classroom, possibly at a camera, Smartboard, math lesson, or a clock. They look excited, so we think they are maybe waiting for summer vacation/recess, or getting their picture taken. The two fingers being held up are maybe the answer to a math question. We think the location is maybe the Dominican Republic or somewhere in South or Central America. We noticed the lack of diversity.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Hello @Mrs. Wright's Krispy Savages. Let's hear more from your class. What did you see that made you say they might be waiting for something? That the image might be set in Central or South America? That there is a lack of diversity? Remember to have your students root their inferences with evidence found in the image, as there are many possibilities up for interpretation.
Ava (AOSE)
This picture shows a group of kids and an adult in a classroom. The kids are all looking at something and some are holding up two fingers. I think the kids are watching a video to help them learn math. I know that they are learning because it looks like they are in a classroom and they have books and supplies out on the desks. I think the kids are holding up two fingers because the answer to the problem is two, and the kids got excited and wanted to share that they knew the right answer. The kids look like they are in elementary school, maybe third grade. The kids are not in uniform so I can infer that this is most likely a public school. The woman in the picture, who I assume is the teacher (because she is sitting at the front of the class and at a desk) is doing work at her desk, showing that she probably knows what is going on, which can back up the point that what is going on in the picture was a planned part of her teaching. This picture could have been taken anywhere, but I can guess that it was taken in a Spanish area because all of the people in the picture look Hispanic.
MY Name Jeff (Ct)
In this picture, a classroom of young students are all looking at a certain point in their classroom. Based on how the students are acting, they look like they are posing for a photo shoot: peace signs and bunny ears.
Savion (Berlin,ct)
i think that these students are having a countdown
Bella.T (AOSE)
@Savion What do you think the children are counting down? Why do you think many of the children are looking up?
faze tenser (puertonrico)
i think that they are learning math
bob (???)
i think it is in mexico
Olivia M (AOSE)
@bob What do you see in the picture that leads you to believe this? Why don't you think this could be located in the United States?
dylan (Newport)
kids in a not very wealthy school watching something or doing an activity probably in elementary school. the kids are interacting with each other. the school is probably in a forgien country.
Mrs. Wright's Krispy Savages (Connecticut)
@dylan What makes you think they are not wealthy? We agree that it is probably in another country!
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
It's great to see the conversation being continued! I will second @Mrs. Wright's Krispy Savages question to @dylan, what did you see that made you say this school might not be wealthy? Unlike @Mrs. Wright's Krispy Savages, I am still unsure where this might be set. What did you both see that made you agree this might not be in the United States?
j (Newport)
i see a cluttered classroom with student i see floor tiles are black and yellow i see a lot of students standing i see them doing peace signs i think there doing work an trying to answers questions or or they might be watching at something or someone
Savion (Berlin,ct)
I think that these students are having a countdown
Andrew (Newport)
I see lots of kids holding up their fingers. There is a bunch of papers and craft stuff. The window looks like it may be covered with snow. There is a lot of backpacks and books. A lot of the kids are holding up two fingers. I think the kids are in an art room and, I think they are holding up two fingers because are learning about a second thing like a rule or fact.
Sparky J. (Newport)
I See a classroom with kids in it probably a 3rd grade class. they seem to be interested into the subject they're learning . they look like they're in a jsal or school (not being judgy) but they seem to all be mexican or indian (if not i'm not racist). they also look like they're in a art room from the pictures on the wall. There's a checkered floor pattern.
Kirsten. W (Newport)
I see kids looking at something I see them putting up 2 fingers The classroom is messy Looks like they are at school I see windows I think they are doing a craft. it makes me think that because they have scissors and colored pencils out
Ava (AOSE)
@Kirsten. W Good observations! You said that the kids are doing a craft but what else can you infer based on the details you mentioned?
Brooke J (Newport)
I see kids in a tiny classroom and it looks like there getting ready to leave because of the bags and everything. The classroom looks a little old because of the desks. It looks like the students are watching something in the front of the classroom they look like there enjoying whatever there watching. Also students are sitting on desks and some and holding up the number two.
Ava (AOSE)
@Brooke J Good attention to details! You mentioned that the students are watching something, but what else do you see going on in the picture? Try and use supported claims with things you can see in the picture.
Mrs. Reibel's Class (Hoffman Estates, IL)
We see kids in a classroom and we are guessing that they are in third grade because they seem to be the same size as us. It looks like an older school than ours because the desks look kind of old. The kids look like they are watching something on a tv or monitor or smartboard but it must be up high because everyone is looking up. A few kids are giving a peace sign. Maybe they are watching something important.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Hello to @Mrs. Reibel's Class! It sounds like your class is relating to the kids in the image -- thinking about how big they are, what grade they are in, the contents of the classroom, and what they are looking at. What did you all see that made you say they might be watching something important?

Team Tompkins (Delaware, OH)
We see kids in a school classroom looking up --either at a clock, the classroom rules or a Smartboard. We think it is either the last day of school and that is why all of their stuff is packed in their bags on their chairs or they don't have lockers. They are holding up their hands to communicate, maybe sign language. We also think it is the end of the school day.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Thanks for commenting @Team Tompkins! You've introduced several new ideas we haven't heard yet. There have been several suggestions for that they could be looking at and why they might be raising their hands, but what did you see that made you say they might be communicating via sign language? You've also noticed the way they appear to be packed up -- what did you see that made you say this could indicate the end of the school year or the end of the school day? Keep it up and let's hear more from you!
FazeCloak (New hampshire)
I see kids looking at something.
Ava (AOSE)
@FazeCloak What else do you see in the picture? What do you think the kids are looking at? Try and use details in the picture to support your claims.
Bulldog Academy (Thomasville NC)
6th Grade ELA, 2nd Block: Student 1: Students look like they're looking at something exciting because of the expressions on their faces. Some are doing "bunny ears". Maybe they're looking at a projector? And making bunny ears so that way "it shows up on the screen." (The ones making the ears are in front of the projector). It appears that the class is going on at night because it's dark outside and there appears to be another building next to it with the window open with the light on. Location is maybe Mexico because the kids appear to be of Latino descent. Student 2: They're looking at something. The student in the brown shirt is holding something that he can write on. So maybe they could be doing an interactive classroom assignment and everyone is participating?
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Thank you for sharing some student comments @Bulldog Academy! You all seem to be looking very closely at some of the details in this image, and noticing the light in this space -- how students might be interacting with a projector lamp and the light emanating from a next door building indicating it might be night out. You're also wondering where this might be set, and suggesting one possibility could be Mexico. What did you see that made you say they might be of Latino descent? Student 2 is focusing in on one student in particular and noticing what he is holding. What did you see that made you zoom out and say they are all participating in this activity?
Torrence. W (Newport)
It looks like these kids are at school, with there friends, and they are having a fun time.It also looks like there teacher is taking a picture of them and they are all being silly in this picture. I see some kids looking up at the board, I also see a couple desks, and a teacher in the background, and i see backpacks hanging on the chair desks. t seems to me that some people are wearing uniforms and some people are wearing whatever they want. I also see a teacher in the right corner and maybe a aid in the back corner.I also see some desks that look very old and maybe this school is a little bit older than some other schools that you would see.
Ava (AOSE)
@Torrence. W Great answer! I love how you said what you saw in the picture and connected it with your claims. You said that the kid's teacher is taking a picture of them, but if the teacher is taking the picture, who do you think the woman sitting at the desk in the corner is? And why would she be sitting there if the teacher is taking a picture?
Miguel (Long Island)
In today's New York Times VTS, I think that someone is taking picture. I think this because they are looking at the front of the whiteboard. Another reason this idea makes sense to me is because some of students are laughing. I wonder if they are taking a picture?
Justin and Abe (Montville)
The kids are doing peace signs and having fun in the classroom of an elementary school. Their desks are messy. The school may be in Mexico. Some of the other kids are looking confused and bored.
Isha (AOSE)
This pciture is taken place in a classtoom, most likely during present day. There are kids and desks and chairs, writing utensils and paper. This photo was not taken in America, but most likely somewhere in cental or south america. The people in this picture do not come from the wealthiest families or go to a very nice school. The kids are wearing ill fitting clothes and the chairs are run down and beaten up a bit. The kids are all staring at something at the front of the room. Some kids are also putting two fingers up in a peace sign. They could be looking at a screen or could be on a video call with someone. This person could be a foreigner, maybe american or european, becuase some of the kids seem very intrigued, probaly due to the lack of interaction with people unlike them, and the peace sign is a very foreign thing to central america, and the person could be teaching them. The teacher does not seem very concerned with the class and what they are doing.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Good morning @Isha. Remember to provide evidence for your ideas. What do you see that makes you say that?
Sherome (Poughkeepsie)
I see that kids are in a classroom posing to take a picture/or it looks like they are holding up two fingers for a answer for a question/or they just holding up the peace sign. They look like kids in the 2nd or 3rd grade. They have backpacks and notebooks in they hand or on theirs desk or they writing down notes and they look very happy that they are learning in the classroom
Grace (Newport)
I'm see some desks with kids sitting at them, some kids putting up their hands, some posters in the back, some windows, and what looks like some coloring supplies on the desks. I'm predicting that the kids are in a classroom watching something up ahead.
Hannah K. (AOSE)
@Grace What do you think the kids could be watching?
Abby Huff (Newport)
What I see in this picture is kids staring at something and I think they are looking at either a guest speaker or a teacher maybe even the principal. These kids are at school and are doing arts and crafts.
martin (Newport)
kids looking at something there holding a peace sign its most likely in a classroom
Julia M (AOSE)
I see some children at school. They seem to be looking at a board. The board might be showing a video. Most of the children are looking at it, so it is probably interesting. Some of them are raising their hands with two fingers up. This might be a way for them to answer questions, a way to show that the kids should be quiet, or they could be imitating something they are seeing on the video. The desks seem to be in disrepair, indicating that this is a poorer area. It is probably a public school because the children aren't wearing uniforms. All the children seem to be around the same age, but it is possible that they have multiple grades in one room.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Good morning @Julie M. You've mentioned several possibilities on why these children might have two fingers raised. Perhaps they are answering a question or imitating what they are looking at. @Elizza Moon agrees with your third idea that this could be a classroom management tactic -- what did you all see that made you say that?
Evan (PHS)
It would appear that this is a classroom at an elementary school, I can tell this because of the children's age, supplies, and the room they are in. It also appears that there is a teacher on the right and maybe para or a teachers assistant in the back of the room. I believe that these children are solving a math problem, and that this picture was taken some what recently from 2000-present day.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Hi @Evan! Thanks for sharing your thoughts as you are dissecting this image. A lot of people have been wondering about the setting, specifically the location, but you are bringing a new question to the table as you are trying to date this image. What do you see that makes you say this photo was taken during this century?
mar (cass county )
I think that these kids are all at school and possibly taking a photo. I believe this because all of the desks and the teacher sitting at their desk. It looks like the students are taking a picture because some of them are smiling while lots of them are holding up peace signs.
McKinnley (PHS)
It looks like a math class in a South American country, I believe it is a math class because most of the students are holding up there hands portraying the number 2. It's in a classroom that looks quite old and overcrowded, maybe it's in a poorer part of a town.
Christina (AOSE)
In this picture the children are clearly in a school setting, which can be seen through the desks, backpacks, etc. Based on the looks on their faces, they could be looking at something very interesting and/or shocking. They also look like they could be watching something that causes them to put up their fingers for something.
marinda (plattsmouth)
it seems as if these kids are at school. i can predict this because there are multiple kids at desks with school supplise.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Good morning everyone! It's great to see all of the comments so far. I'm excited to look closely at this image with you all. As you are thinking and writing, remember to cite evidence from the image to support your ideas! What's going on in this picture?
Elizza Moon (Northbrook)
It appears that these kids are at school. I say this because there are desk and it seems like there's a teacher in the corner. The reason some kids have two fingers up is because in some schools thats how to get your kids quiet when it's time to learn.
Devin (Illinois)
The children are at school because the classroom has desks and I believe in the corner is the teacher. Some students look like they are wearing a school uniform and some children are dressed however they want. There are different emotions in the student's faces. Some emotions are confused, interested, and happy. They don't seem old enough to be in middle school, so I believe they are elementary students. All of the students are wearing a t-shirt and shorts which shoes they live in a hotter climate. They might live in South America, maybe Bolivia.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Hi @Devin@ Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It sounds like you're trying to unpack this image that looks like it might be a school scene. Remember to provide evidence for your claims -- what do you see that makes you say these children aren't old enough to be in middle school? That the location might be in South America, specifically Bolivia?
Devin (Illinois)
Hi @VTS Moderator Thank you for the reply. I believe they are in elementary school because the children look young, there are crayons/coloring utensils on their desks, and there is a drawing in the back. After discussing with some peers, we believe the location is in Indian because the way everyone is dressed shows the climate is warm. Also the desk that has all of the supplies looks like it has Indian letters on the front.
Brianna Kim (Northbrook, Illinois)
This looks like a school somewhere else than in America. There are backpacks, desks, and chairs. A lot of kids are holding up 2 with their fingers, maybe because they are solving a problem on the board or posing for a picture. They look excited to be there maybe because they don't/can't go to school every day and look forward to learning
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Thank you for adding your voice to the discussion @Brianna Kim! Like @Devin, @Andy Lee, and others you are wondering where this image is set and you agreeing that it appears outside the US. What do you see that makes you say that? You are also hypothesizing different ideas on why some of the kids are holding up two fingers -- possibly problem solving or maybe even posing for a photo, noticing the look of excitement across the room. Keep it up! What more can we find?
Isha (AOSE)
@Brianna Kim why do you think that this is america? also what counties/regions do you think that this photo was taken in? south america, europe, africa, asia?
Sara (<br/>)
@Isha I think this is in South America because the classrooms are unique and the children are wearing shorts which can indicate somewhere warm.
Brady (G)
I think that the kids are at school. This is because there are deks, chairs, and an adult in a classy shirt. She is wearing a green shirt which could indicate that she is somebody formal. Backpacks are scattered throughout the room. Pencils, markers, and paper are all around the room. These supplies are used in school for when kids make projects. A few kids have their fingers out for counting numbers. There are students in classy shirts and some with everyday clothes. The different dresswear is what students at schools typically wear. This may also be a church class because there are some students dressed in nice clothes. Church classes could have similar things in the classroom just like school.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Hello @Brady. Sounds like you're thinking of different types of learning settings and wondering if this might be a church class. You've even pointed out the similarities between school classrooms and church classrooms. Keep up the hard work of looking closely and providing evidence. What more can we find?
Brady (G)
@VTS Moderator I really think this is a school classroom because the kids are holding up numbers which could be a math lesson. Also, a kid seems to have some sort of textbook that could be for learning math. The kids are probably looking at a big screen or white board because the teacher is in the back and the kids are interacting with the front. The older women in green at the back is a teacher since she is dressed nicely and looks a lot older than the other kids. The students have backpacks which is what kids at schools wear to hold their supplies. There are papers and pencils on the desks and this is what kids have for school supplies. There are kids in casual clothes and others in fancy clothes. A school will usually have a mix of kids in different clothes since they have different styles.
Sidney Holman (Northbrook, IL)
In this picture you can see a classroom in some part of mexico or spain that is very poor with very poor school districts. The camera taking this picture is getting the kids reactions to using a projector for the first time. I believe they are doing math through the projector and some of the kids are holding up the answer to the question on the board. The kid in the back right in a yellow shirt doesn't know what the answer is to the question on the board so he is side eying his friends answers.
Andy Lee (Northbrook)
I think the kids are in the classroom and, I think it is in a private school. The uniform shows it is a private school. I think they are using a video chat and showing places in the outside of India.
Christina (AOSE)
@Andy Lee what are the children wearing that you consider a uniform.
Julia M (AOSE)
@Andy Lee Only a few people seem to be wearing a uniform. What else makes you think that it might be a private school?
Rachel (AOSE)
@Andy Lee What uniform? How do you know that this is in India?
Natalie (Northbrook, Illinois )
It looks like these kids are in a school, a handful of them are girls including the teacher. Only one kid as I can tell has glasses, and some of them have two fingers up. It looks like it's an old school since the desks look like they are gonna fall apart.
Jason (northbrook, Illinios)
The children seem to be in a classroom, and I think they are looking at a bunny. I think this because a lot of the kids are making a bunny sign. Also, I would say they are learning in a classroom from like Costa Rica. I would say this since I know it is not America since the classroom doesn't seem so fortunate.
Christina (AOSE)
@Jason This classroom might not be in America, but why do you think that this is in Costa Rica
Julia M (AOSE)
@Jason What makes you think that this is from Costa Rica, and not some other country? They are plenty of places in America that can not afford nice classroom supplies. Perhaps it could be near the US southern border, the Philipines, South America or in a myriad of other countries that have trouble with funding their education system?
Jason (northbrook, Illinios)
@Christina You know that this America since the class isn't renovated and there is no technology at all. I guessed it would be Costa Rica since its a poorer country and they look like they aren't from the United States.
Rebecca (Northbrook IL)
A bunch of students in school out of the United States. It looks like they're playing a game that's on the board; since, their faces are looking perplexed and confused. Along with their facial expressions some, of the kids are holding up the number two with their fingers. Maybe it's a two way teaching program that doesn't involve the legitimate teaching, of the teacher. What's strange is that there are very few girls in the class, but only some of them are wearing uniforms.
Isha (AOSE)
@Rebecca why do you think there is a lack of girls in this class? do you think it could have to do with the fact that this picture was not taken inside the united states
Rebecca (Northbrook IL)
@Isha I think there's a lack of girls in the class because maybe where they live it's hard, for girls/women to get education and respect. And that they had to come a long way to get to where they are, and they see going to school as a privilege.
Kade (Northbrook)
I think that these kids are in a classroom facetiming another class. I think this because they are giving hand signals as if they we talking to some one they are also smiling and intent with this facetime. I think they are calling another class or school.
Emmett Cuncannan (Glenbrook North Highschool)
The kids are all looking at something on the board, maybe a lesson or they are review for a test or quiz. It looks like this because all the kids are looking at the board like kids would at GBN. I still wonder why the kids are holding up peace signs in the back of the picture.
Brianna Kim (Northbrook, Illinois)
This looks like a school somewhere else than in America. There are backpacks, desks, and chairs. A lot of kids are holding up 3 with their fingers
Bulldog Academy (Thomasville NC)
Eng IV, 1st Block: In the picture, they're looking at a camera. I say because select few have the "bunny" fingers up and smiling. The setting is in a small classroom, possibly India.
Siri Fagerbakke (Stjørdal, Norway)
We think that the children are at school, in their classroom. We think they are looking at a TV screen. We think they are Facetiming with another group of pupils, in another part of the world. 6th graders in Norway :-)
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Greetings @Siri Fagerbakke and your 6th graders in Norway! Thanks for adding to the image discussion. You all have suggested a possibility of what this class of children might be looking at and why. What do you see that makes you say they might be communicating with another class? That this communication is long distance? Find evidence in the image and remember to share it with us!
Siri Fagerbakke (Stjørdal, Norway)
Thank you for answering our comment, @VTS Moderator! We tok another look at the picture and here are some of my pupils reflection: The reason we think they are FaceTiming or communicating with another class, is that the pupils seem very excited and engaged in what they are looking at. My pupils identify themselves with this behaviour - This is how they would react if they were communicating with pupils from another country. The reason why we think they are communicating with pupils from another country, is that they seem to be using body language instead of speaking: They are smiling, showing the peace sign, maybe as a friendly gesture, their faces look curious. Some of my pupils noticed the adult person sitting in the corner of the classroom, she is obviously not engaged in the communication. So we think this is a pupil controlled activity. She could be their teacher, and som of my pupils thinks she is a nurse, due to her green outfit and some of the items on her desk. Thanks again for answering, looking forward to reading the “fasit”. 6th graders in Norway, and Siri:-)
Dimi and Camilla (Switzerland)
The young children seem to be students in a classroom. We believe they are on a sort of video chat because some students seem amazed and others seem to be holding up hand signs in greeting. Judging from the skin colour of the children, we believe the picture is taken in central or south America.
FRM (Palermo, Italy)
It is a classroom we think in Costa Rica most of the kids are looking up and making the peace sign. The interesting part is that the teacher is not engaged in the classroom. The kids are either taking a picture or are part of a Skype call.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles)
Hello @FRM, thanks for sharing your ideas! What do you see that makes you say this might be in Costa Rica? That it is their teacher in the corner? That the kids are engaging in some sort of technology? Tell us more!
Felix, Alice (Basel)
It shows a classroom, young students. Some students are reacting differently, some are confused, some are shocked, some interested, inspired, and curious. In front of them there must be a board, projector, or screen which isn't relevant to the teacher. Some students are wearing uniforms and some are dressed normally. The school building looks old and run down. The students skin tone fits a country that is in the tropics, or in a warmer climate (e.g. south America). Some students are showing hand gestures, of a positive nature.
Indraneel &amp; Krish (Basel, Switzerland)
The students are attempting to solve some sort of problem (question) maybe? We think this because some of them are holding up their hands, which may be an indication of them trying to give an answer. (We can see they're in a classroom and the teacher seems to be a bit away from the students; perhaps she left them to figure out a solution to the problem?)
Ava and Ilina (Basel, Switzerland)
In this picture, there is a group of kids in a classroom, and they are looking to the front of the classroom (perhaps either at a wall or at a whiteboard). We know they are in a classroom since there are desks and pencil cases scattered, and there is a teacher at the far right, however, they may be looking at another teacher, or maybe a wall/whiteboard. They may be answering a question to perhaps a mutiple choice answer, and many of them are holding up two fingers (to say that the second question is right). However, they may be even greeting someone, holding up a peace sign. We also noticed that only three students are wearing a uniform (a white shirt and a red tie), while the rest are wearing casual clothes. There are also posters on the back wall, and their window faces another window to perhaps another classroom.
Jordan and Lola (Basel, Switzerland)
The photo is of a shcool classroom, located in Latin America. Some of the students are wearing uniforms and some are wearing normal clothes. They are all staring at something and showing the peace sign. The teacher is sitting down in the bottom right doing nothing, just looking at a book. Ok the window you can see a reflection of a projecter screen. It is a civvies day or the last day of school and some people forgot to bring money to give to charity so they still have to wear school uniform. They are probably having a FaceTime call with someone due to the fact that they are showing peace signs and they all look engaged in the class.
Rafa and Anna (Basel)
This classroom is in Mexico, they seem to have a video call with what we assume is another school. They are being friendly and greeting the others, with a peace sign. They look very Mexican. Some of the students look very mesmerized by this device, this may be because they aren't used to have advanced technology in school.
Annika, Oliver (Basel)
This picture is taken in a classroom, they are taking a picture because all of them are smiling and making peace signs. It might be a photographer, or a new computer/webcam. The school itself is older and not as rich because they all have sufficient school supplies, tables etc. It might be placed in South America, as they all look latin, and the country doesn't look like an MEDC, even though it is clearly developing. The teacher does not look interested in what her students are doing, as she is sitting in the corner and working by herself. The sight out of the windows is grey, suggesting that there might be a building next to it, resulting in a crowded neighbourhood.
Caitlin, Max (Basel, Switzerland)
These kids look like they are posing for a photo, or a video call or video. Some kids are curious about what is being shown, while some are posing for what is being shown. This school looks like it is in a developing country as the quality of the classroom does not seem to be the best, as well as the furniture. The kids are happy and curious to be looking at what is being shown, so it seems like they are participating in an interactive activity, looking up on the wall where it is being shown.
Isabel Li (Temple City, CA)
In this picture, a classroom of young students are all looking at a certain point in their classroom. Based on how the students are acting, they look like they are posing for a photo shoot: peace signs and bunny ears.
Mg and Ep (Basel Switzerland )
We think that this is located in Mexico and we’re getting the vibes from the students clothing and the school as it seems to be local. What they’re doing is possibly talking to someone in particular on the screen like a Skype call as the students in the back and the middle have their hands up in a peace sign. y’aight Blueface baby
Catna (Basel, Switzerland )
We think that its a poor school because it looks like there are bars on the windows and the classroom is very crowded. These kids look really excited about whatever they're being shown. It looks to be in a South American country, maybe Mexico. Some students are wearing a uniform while others don't. It doesn't look to be too poor because they have school supplies and have decently kept clothes. They must be talking to someone or taking a picture because they're smiling and posing.
Eden and Amelia (Switzerland )
We think that this picture is taken in a school maybe in South America. We think they may be watching a video that they find interesting.
Mr.E and Mr. S (Swizteland)
What we can see is children at the age of between 8 to 10 are looking at something in the front of the class. We believe that they may be looking at a home screen or projection at the front. on the right of the picture we can see the teacher who is busy looking at her phone and not looking children. she does-not look happy to be there. we thing that the picture is took in LEDC
P.B &amp; L.K (Basel, Switzerland)
It is a classroom, where the teacher is sitting in the corner, and the students seem to be looking in the same direction. The reason for this could be because they are Skyping or factoring with others. Some students are posing by holding out the peace sign. It seems to be something special, as they all are very engaged in the activity. They could be talking to another classroom.
Jacob (Basel, Switzerland)
This picture depicts a school. This school appears to be for younger children. They are all facing the board in a way that suggests they are on a video call with someone. There are many children cramped into a small class with one teacher meaning this is likely a developing country. Some students are wearing uniforms while others are not so this school likely isn't strict.
Casper, Carter and Naomi (Switzerland)
There are multiple children engaged with potential learning something. They are most likely in a class setting evidenced by the desks and pencil cases.
