Theaster Gates Is a Toast of the Fashion and Art Circuit

The American zeitgeist captures blackness as a story of oppression and exclusion, which is as authentic a view of this country as can be rendered. It is important to also capture the much less evident, but nonetheless real, experience of those black Americans who may now and may have in the past eked out a bit of normalcy, even if it was and is painfully limited.
