What in God's name is wrong with these people. Juveniles all the them. DiBlasio, Peters, Cuomo... They can't take personal vendettas out of being a professional? All three should be fired. And never allowed in politics again. Enough. And those police officers that planted marijuana in the car of several young men, very similar mentality. Profoundly askew.

The corruption in NYC has no limits. NYC Dept of Education budget is 33 billion dollars a year plus a separate capital budget of billions. There are 1.1 million students. That comes out to $30,000 per student per year or a million dollars a year for a class of 33. Wasteful spending and theft explains where the money goes. Multiply that by 3 and you understand how much money is diverted by the NYC government and explains why some support the mayor. Imagine if the money was effectively spent. NYC barely graduates half its students. The streets are dirty. Public Housing is falling apart. The airports look like third world countries.

I miss the good old days with Mayor Bloomberg. No scandal, no accusations, no hint of graft, no deception... It i quite the opposite today.

Letitia James (as new AG) should open an independent investigation into the investigations Peters says the Mayor is trying to squash.

The obvious parallels to de Blasio/Peters are Trumps inevitable termination of the Mueller Investigation and Cuomo's 2014 disbandment of the Moreland Commission, that had begun investigating him. De Blasio's and Cuomo's unilateral and undemocratic actions will provide Trump the perfect cover justification when he cans Mueller. Trump will exclaim: "Where was the outrage toward de Blasio and Cuomo?" And that a good argument, albeit two (or three) wrongs don't...

How is the Mayor different from President Trump" Is firing investigators when they near the top man ever good?
paul (White Plains, NY)
"Delusions of grandeur'? That self-describes describes de Blasio to a tee.
Marc (NYC)
is there an unacknowledged Trump son in the house?
Steve (NY)
Hmm. So firing someone who is investigating you. Where have I heard this before...?

Deeds get changed and there is no transparency - aka the Rivington House. Staff don't get fired but ended up running EDC. Drones purchased without approval and still sit in a box @ DDC. Nobody held accountable. DDC - all projects late. BDB has nothing to say about that. Commissioner held cocktail party for BDB and next day got a job with the city. Now that Commissioner left after numerous complaints over 2 years ago, and still an acting commissioner. What gives? What does the "appointments department" do? Chief of Staff gets her girlfriend a job. BDB has nothing to say about that?

So, this is what New Yorkers voted for, twice. This is simply another precedent for Trump to fire Mueller. Bill de Blasio is a petty, corrupt, dishonest mayor, but that seems to be what New Yorkers want. I guess New Yorkers and de Blasio get what they wanted, from NYCHA to ACS to the homeless, to turnstile jumping and public urination. It all comes back to de Blasio.

The obvious parallels to de Blasio/Peters are Trump's inevitable termination of the Mueller Investigation and Cuomo's 2014 disbandment of the Moreland Commission, that had begun to investigate him. De Blasio's and Cuomo's unilateral and undemocratic action will provide Trump the perfect cover justification for his eventual dismissal of Team Mueller. Trump will then justifiably proclaim: "Where was the outrage toward de Blasio and Cuomo?", correctly pointing out how selective democratic standards are reserved for him. If we don't want our Country ruled in a tyrannical manner, NYC and NY State must not preach democratic ideals until we clean up own house.

One clear reason that corruption continues in all political arenas is the ability of elected officials to "appoint" people to positions meant to protect 99.95 of us from the greedy, socially unconsious 0.01% who want to control it all. It is time that these "ombudsman and investigative" positions be filled by city councils or a neutral body of citizens who have the interest of 99.9% of us and democracy top of mind.

My experiences as a neighborhood advocate in the City Council district that DiBlasio represented during the early 2000s made me all too familiar with his penchant for playing politics when he should be listening, solving problems and basically doing the job he was elected to do. Color me completely unsurprised by his current behavior.

"Mr. de Blasio on Friday took the rare step of firing the investigations commissioner, Mark G. Peters? Of course it was on a Friday. The ol' Friday dump - sometimes its documents, sometimes its people; maybe the lousy local football will bury the story. Most NYer's don't want a Republican or Independent mayor, but sometimes you need one for a while just to keep the Democratic hacks from getting too comfortable for too long. The city will survive.

“I’m sorry he has delusions of grandeur in thinking that everything revolves around him,” the mayor said. WOW! Is this not DeBlasio, when he went to Germany to berate the office of the President? WOW! Is this not DeBlasio when he went to Iowa several times to "test the waters" for his presidential run? Why is it DeBlasio always gets "a free ride?" Does he believe he is the EMPEROR? He sure acts as though he is. He is never at fault. Always passing the blame. When will the citizens of NYC realize he is in this for one reason, Bill DeBlasio!
Imagine (Scarsdale)
An early supporter of the Mayor's bid for his office, I'm now regretting my support, over this and over Amazon. The only consoling thought is that Cuomo is worse.
Mikeweb (NY, NY)
@Imagine, imho, if we had Governor Zephyr Teachout and Mayor Leticia James we wouldn't be hearing these kinds of stories of corrupt and/or dysfunctional government.
Alan Chaprack (NYC)
@Imagine My support for de Blasio has waned as well. Looking back...would you rather a Republican in Gracie Mansion?
JMS (NYC)
Mayor deBlasio and his Administration have ignored NYCHA housing violations since he came into office. The Mayor’s handpicked NYCHA Commissioner, Shola Olatoye, lied under oath when questioned about those violations including lead paint testing for children. Mr. deBlasio used public housing improvement as a cornerstone of his campaign. He lied. He lied to the residents of NYCHA and he lied to the people of New York City. I don’t believe a word he says now. I believe Mark Peters was fired unjustly and because he was going to continue finding how the deBlasio Administration has lied and covered up additional corruption in his Administration.

The City is falling apart pretty fast under DiBlasio. Even a six-inch snow can't get cleared right and turnstile jumpers a no longer arrested.

Well, when the chief executive of any large organization fires his chief of internal audits for reasons of "over-reaching", you could make a lot of money betting that the chief executive has something to hide. "Over-reaching" sounds a lot like "disloyalty to the person of the chief executive." This matter should be aired same as Trump's conflicts-of-interest must be aired out.
Martin X (New Jersey)
I have suspected heavy-handed intimidation tactics by DiBlasio for a long time now. My hope is that this scandal goes viral.
