Sweet vermouth? Why not just open a bottle of Dubonnet Blonde instead?
Bello (western Mass)
Fun article and reminded me to head to the kitchen to cook dinner, with the aid of a spritzy cocktail.

A better, lazier Old Fashioned: whiskey, a splash of Cointreau, and a couple dashes of bitters. You don’t have to worry about the sugar dissolving. I drink them all the time.

Rosie's back. Cheers! You have been sorely missed.

As an NYT.com subscriber, I just tried to add this to my pre-existing NYT recipe box. Do I understand correctly that we must now pay a separate fee in order to do so, from this point onward? It's not letting me add to my recipe box....

@Lisa I just saved the recipe for Chicken Francese and this cocktail with no additional charge.

Recommended Spanish Vermouth?
Pardonfield (Vermont)
Cynar, ice, lemon slice.

I recently discovered this great vodka Upstate - Peony Vodka. It's so smooth with just a hint of flavor that you can just add a spritz and you're good to go - it's delish! You can tickle it up with a dash of flavored bitters or a squeeze of lime - it goes with anything really (and it's pretty!).

This is good content. More please. :)

Another great lazy spritz: Aperol amaro and sparkling wine.

Another lazy spritz: Campari + Seltzer. I find the Campari tends to settle at the bottom of the glass. I keep the seltzer out, and as I drink down (and the drink becomes more concentratedly, cloyingly sweet) I re-dilute with more seltzer. My very own bottomless cocktail.

Here's a variation on the lazy Old Fashioned. I call it the Lazy Girl's Old Fashioned- bourbon, dash of bitters, ice, maraschino cherry, and a little of the syrup from the cherry bottle.

Not being much of a cocktail drinker -- may I be forgiven by the orthodox readers of this article -- I like a Bloody Mary with little ripe cherry tomatoes floating in it, like green olives in a dry martini.
Suzanne Fass (Upper Upper Manhattan)
Welcome back, Rosie! We've missed you.

@Suzanne Fass I was about to write the same thing! Rosie's columns are all wonderful.
piaze (New Orleans)
Yes! Rosie is back! And I'll be drinking spritzy vermouth while I make dinner tonight. @Suzanne Fass
