WHEN A FACT'S ALL WET Well, shut my mouth And send me into battle-- Seems New York's Rainier than Seattle.

1.22*square root of altitude in feet = distance to horizon in miles. Square root of 1250 is 35.35, so 1.22* 35.35 = 43.13 miles. That would include NY, NJ, CT, PA, and .... ?? what's the fifth one? The empire state building says MA, but I don't know about that.

From the In the News section: “When it comes to the ticket of Cynthia Nixon and Jumaane D. Williams, who have endorsed each other in their bids for governor and lieutenant governor, the relationship may be mutually beneficial.” Tune of “Together Wherever We Go” Wherever we stump Wherever we greet We’re better competing together. Each stop that we make Each photo we take Each hand that we shake, it’s together Whoever knows you may not know me They’re skeptical and might say “show me” So I prize the support that you throw me So homey, together! Some laughed and made fun They’d thought it was done Believed they had won long ago. We’re side by side That’s how we’ll stay We’re one strong team through primary day Together til voters say no.

Is this all substantively accurate? https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/9di2qe/374_million_to_extend_a_par...

Re Today's Metropolitan Diary. WOW!!! Two women found - in the same week, no less - who've been growing their nails since the first Reagan administration? This new policy re the Diary stinks. It's time to admit the mistake and go back to what made sense.

James has done nothing, as far as I'm concerned, as public advocate. I don't know what public she advocated for. Teachout thinks that company and individual donations are 2 separate things. An individual from a company makes the decision to make donations - only difference is it comes from a company checkbook and not an individual's. My money is on Maloney.

@Sherri Rosen - I hate to say it, due to party loyalty, but I did feel that way about Ms. James’ office. I wrote to her office a couple of times about a city law issue and never even got an acknowledgment, but found myself quickly on her mailing list and then the list asking for contributions. Just her cheery mailing list on how everyone else's issues were being handled, look at the great results THEY got, LOL. But really, no idea if my issues ever reached her, or if it was her office! (The mass emails were very warm and cheery, and made me wish they'd work that skill on MY concerns!) tune of "But Not for Me" She's gotten great work done But not for you Results for everyone But not for you. You begged for help from Tish You didn't get your wish We didn't give your issue what was due. (Hit that "ish" rhyme on iss-ue) You thought her office lame An epic fail. But we still took your name And sent you mail. Since we have your address We beg now nonetheless Though we did squat for you. P.S. For all my worries about the Mayor, the de Blasio Public Advocate office was always sure to respond - eventually - with a few suggestions, sometimes not effective, but indeed inventive! One paid off a long, long time later, to my surprise.

HAIL PERICLES & CAESAR! I practice yoga in my toga Like the Greeks and Romans of old Who stayed true to their highborn station And refused to put honors on hold.

Very informative round up of the happenings in our city. Mostly excited about the primaries next week...unless a pledge is made to fix the MTA and or hold them accountable for their failings with the subway system, neither Nixon or Cuomo will get my vote.

I'm not sure about which neighborhood complains the most about truck jingles, and must admit that where I am now on the UWS, we don't hear ANY -- But I once lived in an area where this ice cream truck incessantly played a cheap synthesizer version of Scott Joplin's classic rag: "The Entertainer" to the point where I gave up ice cream and Scott Joplin for years!
