An article called "Why Trying to Be Less Awkward Never Works". The article basically talks about why people tend o be awkward, especially in social events. I don't see myself as a very awkward person, but I do think I lack something in the social department. And lacking social skill plays a big role in awkwardness. The article points out that many people try to come up with solutions to "cure" or get rid of awkwardness but most of the times their tips are inefficient. Awkwardness stems from over self awareness or conscious when, especially when you are interaction with someone. And the tips to help you with awkwardness can stimulate this unwanted self aware nature that awkward people have. Nothing is wrong with being aware of yourself, but when you are over self aware it can lead a person to panic, become anxious, and nervous. So the key to battle awkwardness? There's no sure way to get completely rid of it, but you can combat it. The article suggests by directing your attention away from yourself and onto a person your talking with. The brain can only focus on so many things at once so if you do this, you will direct attention away from yourself and become more lax. I think this article is good, but maybe lacking some things. I feel like there are more ways to combat awkwardness as it is associated with, like mental health. But overall this article is good for people who don't suffer from those issues.

An article that I thought would be interesting was "Why Trying to Be Less Awkward Never Works". The article basically talks about what it's title suggests, but digs deeper into the subject. Feeling or being an awkward individual is not something that is uncommon, especially today where -as the article outlines- is in movies, books, and many other mainstream medias. People have written articles, books, and talked about how to be less awkward by giving specific instructions, but of course they don't or are not guaranteed to work. I've personally have come across things of these matter, and though I don't think I'm a person who's awkward, I do think I lack social skills which plays a major roles in awkwardness. I think the article does a great job in highlighting the causes of awkwardness and how to combat it. The article highlights how people who are awkward are very self aware and conscious making them nervous, anxious, and stumble especially when it comes to social interaction. Being self aware is not a bad thing, by being more lax and changing attention onto others and less on yourself can help you battle awkwardness. There's no direct way to completely get rid of awkwardness or social anxiety, I can agree on that. But by doing this you can become better and lessen the effects.

An article that really caught my attention was "The Power of Positive People" by Tara Parker-Pope. Many people think of health as just physical, so in order to improve their health, they focus on what they eat, or how often they exercise. In reality, there's another side to health, and that's mental health. A big factor of the quality of your mental health is the people that you surround yourself with. When looking at longevity of life around the world, a common trend appears: people that live longer have more positive friendships and relationships. One idea in particular is building a moai, which is a group of people with similar passions, interests, and values, that come together and create a small community, a support group that is consistently there for one another, for better and for worse, through thick and thin. Even now, National Geographic author Dan Buettner is working with federal and state health officials to create moais in two dozen cities throughout the United States. These moais are created based on how you answer questions to a questionnaire with questions like your favorite type of music, or ideal vacation. Based on your answers, as well as your geography and life style, your moai is created, and you have a support group surrounding you. As we continue to go through life, we face more and more hurdles with each new day, but having the right people supporting you can make all the difference.

The article that interested me the most this week is "At Toys 'R' Us, 'There Is Nothing Left': The Day It Closed for Good" written by Michael Corkery. This article interested me because I loved going to Toys 'R' Us as a kid and I was sad that it was closing. I loved going there and seeing all of the toys. In this article, Corkery wrote about the final days of the store. This store brought happiness to many children, including myself. The stores closed because most Americans shop online now and the stores have become outdated over time. The stores then had to file for bankruptcy and finally decided that it was better if they closed their doors. Children in the future will never experience the joy I did of walking into a Toys 'R' Us and seeing the rows and rows of toys to look at.

I liked this article because there are some things in here I can genuinely relate to. I think this article shared many different scenarios of being in an awkward situation. They give good advice to how to help, but personally once I was in an awkward situation I kinda struggled to deal with it after being in a situation like that. I think that teenagers who deal with the same problem should read this to know, and understand that it happens to others as well, and it isn't unfix-able, but maybe it could help you in the long run.

Link to the article: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/30/business/toys-r-us-closing.html What interested me the most this week was an article entitled, "At Toys 'R' Us,' There Is Nothing Left': The Day It Closed For Good." In this heartbreaking article the author, Michael Corkery, wrote about the depressing final days of the toy story, Toys 'R' Us. I found this article extremely sad because I used to shop at the Toys 'R' Us when I was a child and seeing all the aisles stocked up with toys made me so happy. But what I experienced as a child, is not what everyone is experiencing now. The thing that I found the most sad was the fact that the employees that have been working at these stores for over 30 years, are now without a job. It's sad because these people thought they had a secure job but it turned out that they didn't. Also the new generations of child that would never know what it's like to shop at a Toys 'R' Us store. The stores had to close because they declared bankruptcy. The stores will receive seven million dollars but the employees are unsure if they will receive any of it. In the end, this article really interested me because I have been shopped at Toys'R' Us before and to see that they are closed for good is really sad and hurts my heart.

An article that I found interesting was “ I Did a Terrible Thing. How Can I Apologize ?” by Cris Beam. The article goes over the writer’s experience with a situation in which she had left her wife (who at the time needed her by her side) and finally prepared recently to meet her to apologize. I found it interesting that the writer went in depth on the philosophy of an actual apology and how it can affect others. Another thing I found interesting was how she related apologies and apologizing with today’s current worldwide events. She explains that there is often something more that is required then a simple “I’m sorry”. There is a process of sadness and pain that was endured and struggled through by others that cannot be made up for by a few simple words. Instead there has to be a solution in which others are able to be listened to and understood. It is extremely important that topics such as these are brought up so that people can work together to understand each other and help listen to one another.

I loved reading this article because as a teenager this is something Tha\T’ many of us seek advice for and can relate to. I believe Tha\T’ this article touched up on almost every general thing Tha\T’ can occur in an awkward situation. The problem with these awkward situations is Tha\T’ the person may feel Tha\T’ they can never go back after the damage is done. But this articles advice is how to fix this issue and the little things one can do to take the awkwardness out of a presentation, conversation or after meeting someone new. I think I️t is very important for every teenager or somebody who experiences awkward situations on the daily to read. It was very helpful because not only did I️t give very specific advice, but I️t made me realize Tha\T’ awkwardness is a problem for most people, but it is not unfixable.

Dogs: My scent or My Self I watched a video about how dogs know themself. When dogs look at themselves in a mirror they don't know that they are look at themself. Other animals like dolphins and chimpanzees can recognize themself by looking at a mirror. They tested with their smell. I girl did a test and she took the urine of each of the dogs. The dog that is being tested and two other dogs. All of the dogs she tested spent most of their time sniffing their own urine. She did this with 13 dogs. They have come to solution that dogs know themself by smell and not by looks. By : Ananya Saini

A Large Body of Water on Mars Is Detected, Raising the Potential form Alien Life The fact that there exists a large watery lake in Mars will effect to humans’ lives. From the discovery scientists are estimating that there might be creatures living there, thought it also means that humans might be able to live there. Because water is the most essential part of our bodies, there are a few possibilities for us to start a new life in another planet. Recently the Earth is facing a lot of dangerous natural disasters such as global warming and earth quakes. In the future, the Earth may be terrible place for humans to live safely. However from the discovery that water exists in Mars, it shows that Mars is becoming one of the choices for humans to evacuate when the planet we are living right now which is the Earth gets damaged and destroyed. This news can be an interesting fact because there might be lives of new strange creatures that we never saw, but when we change the aspect against the discovery it is directly related to our future.

‘I’m Doing It for the Babies’: Inside the Ground Game to Reverse Roe v. Wade The topic of abortion is a bit hefty for those who are uninterested in strong topics or for those who maybe on the side of pro-life or pro-abortion. It is admirable that a person would be willing to go out and do something they are passionate about but at some point it does become a burden to some. It is understandable that the thought of abortion is sad and the anti-abortion folks always talk about how the child should be given a chance to live, which is true in the moral concept but what about the orphans who were given the chance to live but their lives are miserable, what about the children living in the slums, what about the children being trafficked at this very moment, and what about the women who is considering an abortion; she was once a child just like every other person in the world and her life turned out to be worst than good. For those who oppose the idea of abortion because you want that child to live, think about the parents circumstances and wonder why they would want or need an abortion, then think about those children in the orphanages, then think about those children who are living in the slums then thrown into human trafficking. In other words think about the children who were given a chance to live but are unable to live it to the fullest the exact way you would envision a child's life would be like if they weren't aborted.

This week I chose the article, "U.K. Courts Reduce Their Role in Ending Life Support." In this, the author explains that the U.K. has made a court order that families and doctors do not need a court order to end life support. This is a big step because the government no longer has a say in whether the person will remain on life support, it is up to the families. I think this is a good thing because there are so many arguments about whether people should remain on life support for long periods of time, or if they should pull the plug. It is an amazing idea to just leave it up to the families, and let them do what they think is right. This will calm a lot of arguments between people because you can choose to remain on life support if that is your belief, or you could pull the plug, if that is your belief. The end result will be up to the believer and will be based on their beliefs, not the beliefs of a whole country.

This week I decided to read the article, "How Many Teenage Girls Deliberately Harm Themselves? Nearly 1 in 4, Survey Finds." and I found it extremely interesting. I knew that harming oneself is very common today, but I didn't know that it was one in four girls, and that caught my attention. As a teenage girl myself, I must to cautious of all the other girls around me and make sure to speak up if I see anything that could be from self-harming. It's also important to speak up about bullying, because as the article said, self-harming can be a result from bullying. being aware of the fact that it is one in four girls is very important, because you wouldn't want to be the reason someone self-harms. Spread kindness, in hopes to end self-harm. @[email protected]

A Watery Lake Is Detected on Mars, Raising the Potential for Alien Life Scientist have found a lake under a frozen ice cap on Mars. Scientist think that there could be life on Mars since living things need water. The lake is approximately 12 miles wide and the water is salt water. It is similar to underground lakes here on Earth. This caught my attention because I think that it is really fascinating that there could be life on another planet other than Earth. If there is life on Earth, there could also be life on other Planets too. I have always been interested in Space, and the different planets and all the stars. It's like a whole new world waiting to be discovered.
