How Benny Blanco Became the Most Popular Oddball in Pop Music

I clicked on this article because I enjoy this genre of music and personally have never heard of Benny Blanco. I was surprised with whom he has done collaborations. Although I am a little confused on what he wants to do in the industry. He seems to create interesting beats and mashups as a DJ, but does he know how to compose a full song by himself? Or is his album going to purely be made of instrumental rhythms? If he goes instrumental it would be different and fresh from the music of this age, but this type of music can become extremely boring and repetitive and cause him to crash and burn fast. The story of his upbringing is unique, but all the credit giving to him being humble about his interactions and fame seem a little off. He boasts how close he is to all these artists which makes him seem less sincere in his reasoning for wanting to make a label for himself. His first release, "Eastside," only appears to credit him for being in the video and help write the song. If Benny's only contribution is helping to compose the beat in songs I don't believe he will get much out of the arrangement. By placing his name in the title to songs he contributes to, people might believe he is only stealing the credit from the other artists and grow to disapprove of him. I believe he is choosing the wrong time to join the music industry, where there are other rising singers who are younger. In today's age, industries higher younger people for a bigger income.

He is thrilled because it takes the heat off him and his thefts from a songwriter. Thats why this group has done so well and will never sound the same. Frauds.

I appreciate his climb and story. His ability to know a hit is unquestioned but I don't have to agree with his artists music which to me all smack of Blah.

Because of this article I finally listened to my first Ed Sheeran song, or rather the first 58 seconds of my first Ed Sheeran song. That was enough. Now I know.

I've heard Benny speak at a couple of different events and he is warm, funny, intelligent, total record/music nerd with encyclopedic knowledge of all kinds of music and has something about him that makes him immeasurably likeable. He truly deserves all the success he has. I see a lot of comments about how all pop music sounds the same. Pop music is a business and, like all, the business of pop music is about giving the consumer what they want. Trust me, if people who listen to pop music wanted to listen to music that didn't all sound the same, Benny could/would make it.

It's interesting that pop music fans now want music that sounds the same, whereas they once wanted fresh, unique sounds and a lot of variety. It couldn't be that music corporations are controlling what people hear and are selling what they want people to buy. No, that can't be it. It must be a mysterious shift in human nature.

Having already reached peak celebrity, we "ain't got time" for Benny.

Sounds like Benny may shoulder some of the blame for the staggering decline in the quality of popular music.

@TyroneShoelaces It's not staggering, it's mincing mechanically and robotically to the rhythm of maddeningly computerized clapping.
