"Lock her up" .... remember what Trump said should happen to Clinton? Is this the prison he had in mind :-) OR, the prison he hopes to be sent to :-)

Isn’t it odd to use Icelandic names as if they were like American’s? It’s as if you were saying Mr. Steve’s Kid.

Why is it a crime to steal computers that are used in a fraudulent operation whose main purposes are to launder money and hide drug and other illegal transactions from the eyes of the authorities? Not to mention detrimental to the environment, plus raising the cost of electricity for everyone in the country. If "guilty", this man is a vigilante hero.

An explanation of what Bitcoin-mining is would have been helpful. It's anything but a normal, straightforward activity.

If your Google isn't working, just say so. Somebody here will help you out.

I wouldn't mind being put into a low security prison within Iceland, not too shabby. I know someone who works within a men's prison in Oslo and he said illegal migrants are begging to be put in there instead of being repatriated to their home countries. It is a much better life than living in Somalia or where ever. Many of them have no forms of ID or papers and make false claims, making it impossible to know even what country they are from or their proper names. The big downside is that the prison population has skyrocketed with illegals and they will do some sort of crime in order to stay within Norway. It has put the government and the citizens of the country into a crazy quandary. And they are not one bit happy about it either.

Yet so many denigrate those who want to limit immigration as racist and nationalist. And deportation is deemed unfair.

In years tp come, folks will marvel at how many people fell for this bitcoin con game. But in the meantime, this made for a great yarn, really well told here!!

Iceland seems to be an example of the best that humanity is capable of.

I spent two weeks there in February and it truly is. Stunning natural beauty, kind, friendly, educated populace who willingly pay high taxes for quality education, healthcare, etc. Granted it's a small country but it represents the best of what the Scandinavian Welfare State offers.

Im guessing the prison is not run by private enterprise.

If you're going to be in prison, Iceland is the place to be. It has very little violent crime so you are unlikely to end up incarcerated with violent people and those convicted of violent crimes are sent to another a country as such crimes are so rare there it doesn't pay to have facilities for them. And escape is usually not an option as the country is so small, strangers are usually quickly identified. There really isn't any place to hide out. As far as his escaping the country by plane, I assume the Icelandic cops are looking for accomplices he might have had to enable him to do so. It seems highly unlikely he could have done so all on his own. Iceland should make him pay for his crime by leaving in prison in the Netherlands. Better still, let him come to NYC and be put in Riker's Island.

Punitive much? Seems they need to convict him before he's sent to prison to "pay" for his crime. In this country, at least, there's supposed to be a presumption of innocence.

Correction. The criminally insane used to be sent to a special facility in Norway. But no more, such a facility was built in Iceland sometime in the 1970s.
