Trump Heralds South Korea Trade Deal, Then Says He Might Delay It

Trump “I made a deal. It’s the best deal. I might not sign it. We’ll see.” I’m sure this makes potential partners, including N Korea, so eager to negotiate future agreements. There’s a reason business, including banks, won’t do deal with Trump. Completely untrustworthy. Even his wives learned that. Also why he got so few votes in NYC, his home. They know him best.

Please take the time to read 'collusion' by luke harding. putin has trump over a barrel with blackmail. very disturbing blackmail.

Could somebody over at W.H. write up one of those flash cards for President Deal Maker to let him know the South Koreans are on our football team?

Trump keeps threatening South Korea and blaming for "not paying the fair share." South Korea is one of the biggest buyers of US arms (if not the biggest), and sent the troops to almost every war that US got involved. In Vietnam, more than 300K Korean soldiers were deployed; 5,099 KIA, 10,962 WIA. In almost every occasion in which US needs a support from international society, SKorea has been on US's side. And when S Korea needs some support from its longest ally more than ever for the N Korea issue, this is what POTUS does.

Trump accomplished what? Getting rid of regulations so our environment and places of utter beauty can be taken over and destroyed by oil companies and developers. Lessening restrictions on car emissions so our air can become more polluted. Carving away at affordable health care for the middle class. Deporting decent hard-working people (some who have served in our military). Tearing apart families. Creating chaos, fear, and confusion within the administration and beyond. Polarizing this country more than ever before. Tweeting hate talk. Fighting with our allies. Lying to the American people...

Trump signs a trade deal with South Korea and calls it a great deal for both sides. Then he turns around and tells the South Koreans he may dump the deal unless South Korea can help him with North Korea. So, South Korea was duped. One of our strongest allies in Asia was played and became a negotiating chip. I assume they're furious and wouldn't be surprised if they also walk away from the trade deal. This one and future ones. Nice move Donald. You have once again lost an ally because you view countries are real estate deals. Well, at least you still have Putin as a buddy.

Trump is methodically irritating all of our allies, one by one. If he continues America will stand alone and that is not a good thing. This man is going to destroy our country!

It seems that every big players involved here will do just fine without Trump. This is not surprising because it appears that the only place where anything coming from Trump is taken seriously is in its base and the spineless GOP and nowhere else. Quite literally, heads of states around the world are just waiting for democracy to fix the US.

Would be well advised to first find out where Korea is located.

China has a plan and that plan will make them the big winner in the Korea situation. There are four elements to their strategy: 1.Diplomacy: China will be viewed by the world as a peacemaker. They will be seen as the single most potent force in Asia-Pacific. The meeting with North Korea is intended to signal to the world that they are in charge and the USA is a secondary player that follows their lead. 2. Economics: China has put a wedge between South Korea and the US. Now they will reach out as part of any deal to make South Korea an economic partner in the world's fastest growing economic arena. Post-agreement North Korea and South Korea will have growing economic and perhaps even political ties to China's benefit and the detriment of the US. 3.Militarily: North Korea will reduce its short-range nuclear and conventional weapons aimed primarily at South Korea but with Chinese support will offer only "incremental and reciprocal" changes to intercontinental weapons aimed at the US. China will be more secure with the rogue nature of North Korea reined in while the US will continue to be stymied. 4.Time: Time is on the side of the Chinese. In 10 years the Chinese economy will be the largest in the world. In another 10 years the US will be second-tier and certainly not a player in Asia-Pacific. The US has no plan and we won't develop one without a fully functioning State Department/NSC and Presidential Team. This is truly American carnage and it will get worse.

Ah, yes. Great deals, the best deals. And so quick, so easy. All this winning!

The 'great negotiator', his main tactics, bait-and-switch and blackmail. So much for negotiating in good faith. He's not to be trusted. Does he not know everyone else is watching this 'first major trade deal' and you can be sure they will act accordingly when it's their turn.

Bottom line: Trump says he plans to rest on his "accomplishments" until the election. Please, please, please make it so. There is so much more harm he could do instead.

“Administration officials have not mounted any sort of effort...” This stands in sharp contrast to the full court press to give tax handouts to wealthy donors. Next time a bridge collapses or a dam breaks or a train derailment occurs, the blood is on this administration’s hands.

They will hold a moment of silence and then continue to drain the coffers of the treasury. McConnell is evil.
Ruth (Johnstown NY)
Ryan and McConnell will send ‘thoughts and prayers’.

His words would hardly encourage North Korea or any other country to sign an agreement because to do so has to be built on trust that the other side sticks to the deal.

Trump “seemed” to veer off script? He careened, like usual. He’s the Pin Ball Prez. It’s sad to say, but Kim Jong-un is on a fool’s errand if he thinks he can make any kind of deal with Trump, and one that Trump will not repeal. Perhaps they will brag about who can move the goal posts farther. Just to the south, Trump imposes quotas on South Korean steel, forces them to buy American-made cars they don’t seem to want, calls it a win, and then threatens to slow this bad-for Korea deal down, to push them into harder line talks with North Korea. Personally, I’m having a hard time finding out what the incentive is for South Korea. Or any other country.

For balanced reporting you should have pointed out that Trump was wrong to suggest Hillary Clinton was responsible for the current trade agreement with South Korea. According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, "the United States and the Republic of Korea signed the United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) on June 30, 2007."
Chris (Minneapolis)
A rambling bunch of meaningless words and sentences and it's off to the beach. He stayed in DC for three whole days this week. I wish someone in the crowd would have had the guts to ask him if he was going golfing AGAIN this weekend. I wish someone in the crowd would have had the courage to ask him how much of the taxpayers' money he has put into his own pocket.

In a word, sham.

Trump's like Dr. Doolittle's mythical Pushmi-Pullyu, a llama like beast that had a head on each end of it's fluffy body so it kept fruitlessly dragging back and forth, back and forth..
Majortrout (Montreal)
The typical trump double play: 1. I will support _________. You're fired. 2. Mexico will build the fence. The Armed services will finance the fence. 3. We have a trade deal now. We'll have to see . I've never seen such a president change his mind so often. Too bad, he can;t change his brain!
MJG (Boston)
He thinks he's clever. Read his 'Art of the Deal'. Everything is negotiable and acceptable plays are lying, double and triple dealing, blackmail, and extortion. As any Trump negotiation nears an end he has two fail-safe bullets. "Don't like it? Sue me. But I'll sue you first." No wonder he misses Roy Cohn.
Marlene (Canada)
I highly recommend reading 'collusion' by luke harding. putin has blackmailed trump so deeply and dangerously, trump can't move.
