The weather is the one thing I don't miss about NYC. If I could tolerate winter, I'd be a Canadian and be living in a civilized country, if they'd have me.
Lazarus Long (Flushing NY)
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I remember a 12 inch snow fall on or close to April 12th in 1981 or 1982.I was taking a good walk to apply for a tax form and the tax office was closed due to the snow. That would be considerably later than this current storm and more than 10 inches. The temperature hovered at 22 degrees all day.

Here's a link for you in addition to the one the Times provides: https://weather.com/storms/winter/news/2018-03-20-winter-storm-toby-heav... Your snowstorm might have been the one in 1982 that deposited 9.6 inches on April 6. Note, the data is for someplace in Central Park, amounts can vary in different locales.

SWEET SOLACE Is the B train coming? Some'll groan; Who's perturbed? Got my phone.
Holly Shane (Santa Cruz, CA)
As these horrific weather patterns continue to batter the east coast, where is our commander in chief? Distracted by porn stars and undermining our justice system? Yes. When he is not denying climate change.

OFFICE WORK How sweet it is, In fact sublime, To surf the web On the boss's time. To text and tweet Both friends and celebrities Around the globe From the Aleutians to the Zebrides. Of course there's work To do without fail, But that must wait Till after email. So much to swap On the boss's dime, No choice but to ask For overtime.

Thanks for the weather update, but I usually go by how quickly the nearby roofs disappear under a blanket of snow and how quickly the shovels come out to start scraping the concrete... Happy Snow Day !!!

The New York Public Library is closed today. It was announced yesterday.
Lou (Rego Park)
This four'easter pre Easter hopefully will pass over before Passover.
Freddie (New York NY)
I love that, Lou! Gets me wondering what to call this year's Easter Sunday which falls on April Fool's Day for the first time I can recall. Maybe "Easter Fools Day" or something like that.
N. Smith (New York City)
There's nothing foolish about Easter.
Lou (Rego Park)
I think I wrote my comment too soon. It would have come out better as, This four'easter fore Easter should pass over before Passover. Scans better that way.
Freddie (New York NY)
“Good morning on this white Wednesday.” Is it OK to rhyme “four’easter” wuth “keister” in the comment box? (Guess I’ll find out!) Tune of “White Christmas” I’m frightened on this white Wednesday A storm with snow and ice and sleet. Will today’s four’easter Knock me on my keister When I brave the messy street? I’m looking at this white Wednesday For now, a quaint and pretty sight Could this springtime forecast be right? May we all get home OK tonight.
Martha (NY, NY)
I love you, Freddie. I had just looked up the lyrics to Let It Snow, when I encountered your alternate response. Lots of snow out my window on this first full day of spring. Oh, the weather out there is frightful.... I just wish I had a fireplace today.
Freddie (New York NY)
Martha, LOL, I'd tried "Let It Snow" years ago, though to low viewing results, so I'd semi-retired the video. :) An Adele holiday greeting from Christmas 2012, with a less-crabby Adele counting her blessings and trying to forget that Taylor Swift seemed to be stealing her act. (I think this was actually done before Frozen's now-classic "Let It Go.") A take on "Let It Snow" - sung by Sheree Sano as Adele http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3SF-Z5wOTg

How much ever increasing evidence that climate change is a reality, which is increasingly more severe, before the political party of the corrupt admit to the facts?

Cynthia Nixon sounds like a shriller version of Bill de Blasio. And at that, Mr. de Blasio had many more years of being a political hack, protesting the closings of libraries and hospitals and then, as mayor, facilitating their take-over by big developers. The guy had experience, such as it was. Middle-class as I am, I do not mind paying higher taxes for infrastructure, libraries, subways, and schools. I very much mind paying taxes that allow women to have three and four and more children while on welfare; that isn't what welfare was designed for. You'll never build enough low-income housing to house everyone who prefers to hang out rather than apply themselves in school. Progressives need to realize that while most of us would like to see the .01% taxed at 60% or more, as they were in the 1960s, we are really done with hectoring guilt trips. Mr. de Blasio needs to run the city so that the middle class doesn't drown amidst dysfunction, and Cynthia Nixon needs to tone it down and stop acting like a conquering celebrity. Mr. Cuomo didn't get gay marriage passed in New York State by shrieking; he's a canny operator who managed to convince our upstate legislators to break away from politics and cast their votes for marriage equality. Sounds good to me.
Mickey (New York)
It’s nice you are willing to pay more taxes but for those of us outside the 5 boroughs, we are being taxed to death. Taxed out of our homes. Taxed to death! That is why 200,000 people leave this state every year. Cuomo taking care of others is great but the homeowner in this state is a dying breed. It’s just terrible knowing that when you grow old in this state you will be forced to sell your home as you are taxed out of it. Cuomo has done nothing to help. Nothing.
DM (U.S.A.)
LITERALLY, taxed out of homes! Literally.

You're really calling a woman "shrill"? I guess you didn't get the 40-year-old memo on sexism. Your views about welfare and income inequality are woefully inaccurate. I'm not supporting Nixon because she lacks political experience. I can do that without demeaning her as a woman or using racist dog whistles about poor people receiving benefits.
Mickey (New York)
May the snow be with you.
DaJoSee (Upper West Side)
The last Nor'Easter that hit the City was barely a "Sprinkle" We are due a large snowfall that of course the hardest working City in the World will ignore. Keep those Subways running MTA, we still have to work!
Butterfield8 (nyc)
"Happy four'easter" to you too, Jonathan, and thanks for the early-morning chuckle!
Michael Kandel (Douglaston)
Butterfield Eight is a perfect Liz flick for snowed in New Yorkers today! check out the NEW Times Capsule, too...

"I'm not like anyone, I'm me!" Cheesy movie, but that is a great line.
