Tripp Zanetis (one of those killed) was one of finest people I've ever met. Even at a place like Stanford (where we were classmates) he stood out as someone that was going places. Truly an awful tragedy.

Sorry for the loss of life of brothers in arms this coming from an old sailor
Linda Stephenson (Santa Cruz)
Trump's tweet is purposely misleading. The helicopter went down in Iraq, about 20 miles from the Syria border.

What a waste of human life. What these soldiers died for, I'll never know.

My deepest condolences to the families and friends of these brave and courageous Americans for their willingness to put their lives in harms for the freedoms and safety of people from other cultures. They are a testament to the generosity of the American people.

Thinking about the families who will be notified and hoping they recognize the nobility of their sons' and brothers' (daughters and sisters) calling. Wishing I could say to each that many of us feel pain reading these sad words in print. I'm sorry you and so many other families have to suffer this sacrifice for our country.

Stop using the term "enemy action" ! Americans are THEIR enemy, they are not ours !

Why is this in the politics section while the front page is full of various "politics" items like Trump Jr. divorce?

It should be unconscionable for an aircraft to go down due to a "technical malfunction." Military personnel are at sufficient risk already without having to worry about whether their equipment is properly maintained. We should not be sending soldiers into danger without proper training and equipment.

Seven more notches in George W Bush's gun. He adds more every day.

We don't need to read your negative comments. Whats needed is prayers to the families..it's not a blame game its our country trying to do what's right.

Prayers !?! Is there anything more useless? Let’s have a mature discussion about why we are engaged in never ending war. What is the end game?
