A beautiful, elegant skater and obviously a delightful young woman. I am rooting for her.

Mirai Nagasu is one of those skaters that doesn't have to do much to be artistic. Her body is both elegant and powerful. She was robbed of a medal in 2010. It Her body changing was a real issue and not an excuse. She looks nothing like she did in 2010. Where she was willowy then, she is muscular and powerful now. Her triple axel is one of the sports most beautiful and breathtaking jumps in the sport. Every position is beautiful, her spins are centered and fast, and her program is balanced. She doesn't squish 9 triples into 45 seconds at the end to get bonus points. She is what figure skating should be. Hopefully she will skate well and be rewarded.

Why do they have to fade away??

They burn out; their bodies give in to injuries; are not able to continue because of the consequences of disordered eating; and get replaced by the next phenom.

Mirai Nagasu's life story and achievements are very inspiring. I hope Mirai gets gold in her solo. Good luck, lady.

I was so disappointed in 2014 when the other skater was favored over Mirai, thought she was very deserving of an Olympic spot. My hope is that she is able to complete the triple axel in her free skate and scores enough to win the gold medal. I'll be rooting for you tonight, Mirai! Best of luck whatever the outcome.

Hello Nagasu, I just read about, I am very proud for you, watched you on the ice, your face look so happy, beautiful do not think you old and fade away, just do if you can, and make you happy, love

It's great stories like this or the ones about Chloe Kim that are real all American stories: immigrants doing the best they can and reaching new heights. It's a shame that the president, born with a silver, if not golden, spoon in his mouth, is blind to what's made our country great.

It's a shame that so many people are seemingly unable to comprehend the difference between legal and illegal immigration
Richard M. Braun (NYC)
With this president there is no difference unless they look like Aryans.

Or the difference between immigrants and the descendants of immigrants. Neither Nagasu nor Chloe Kim are immigrants. Both were born in California.

I was fortunate enough to see Mirai at the 2010 games. I attended with a Vancouver friend knowledgeable about figure skating scoring. We both agreed Mirai out-skated the Canadian who won the bronze because of the judges' sympathy vote -- a close relative (mother?) of the Canadian skater had just passed away. Mirai deserved a medal in 2010, and deserved a spot on the team in 2014. That she is here in 2018 is a testament to her spirit, and an inspiration.

Mirai (her name means "future" in Japanese and quite appropriate) is an American. Of course she persevered, that's the American way. When the going got tough, she got going. What an inspiration for all Americans to hang in there, do the hard work and go for it. Hoping she medals in the singles figure skating.
