I think there is a street festival and the police are there to make sure nothing bad happens. The lady is trying to get the Police involved with the festival.
Rachel Benavides (NJ Linden)
Looking that the image, I've had a few thoughts (good and bad). Here are my thoughts: 1. My first thought was that a crime had just happened and the female was curious so she asks the officer but could not get an answer. So, she used her abilities as a female to use against the male to receive the answers she wants. It is known that males (but not all) love the affection of a female and can't help but enjoy it so the female in the image used that fact against him. True that my first thought is a bit extreme to be the situation of the image but it was the first thing to mind. 2. My second thought was that the male and the female started a conversation and one was starting to be flirtatious so, the other became flirtatious and it became into what the image shows, the male and the female are hunting and smiling (enjoying each others company). 3. My third thought was that a special event is going on and the male is on the job to keep it on check. I believe that the male and female are lovers/married to each other. I believe that because I can see a ring on the males ring finger on his left hand and I looked very close to the females left hand that's wrapped around the male and I believe I see a ring. As I see the rings, I can also see they're faces and they are full of joy which is why I believe that are lovers/married. 4. My fourth thought was they they were in a public area and a proposal had just occurred between them. As I said in my third thought, I can see their rings.

A Policeman in the UK is being embraced by a woman at an event. No emergency situation is occurring as they are both smiling and seem to not be tense. The police are there for protection of people at this event
PHAM HOANG PHI HUNG (ATLANTA)
In the picture i think here are some festivals held on the street . A woman take part in that celebration , she ran to hug a police officer. Both policemen feel very happy and joyful in the festival.
Nausher (New york)
I agree with your post. It definitely seems like there is a festival going on and they both seem to be joyful.
Hannah Kane (Old Forge)
This photo appears to be showing some sort of celebration taking place on a street. A woman taking part in that celebration is hugging a nearby cop. Both people are seemingly quite happy which makes the image joyful.
Hector Navarro (Mexico )
Well in this picture I see a woman on like a festival or something on the street and she is hugging a cop that seems to be happy with the girl because he is smiling. The other guy that is a cop is seeing that the other cop is whit the girl and he also is smiling. In that festival is not seem anything dangerous because those police man’s aren’t looking for something
Porter K (Old Forge N.Y)
I believe that it is a celebration due to the hats and the police being there just in case people get out of line. The people are celebrating over some sort of announcement they heard and they are all looking in that direction, that is also why the police officer is allowing the woman to hug him. Also, I can see that there are two different police officers which means that I could be a celebration that involves other countries. It also looks like it is taking place in a city of some sort.
Cameron G (Old Forge, NY)
In this photo, there is a woman with her arm around a police officer at a festival of some sort. The officer is smiling at the woman, so this must not be a serious or dangerous situation. I can tell this is is probably a festival due to the crowd of people in the background and the articles of clothing the woman is dressed in.
Grady B (Old Forge, NY)
The officer is holding a map so there may be a chance that he helped the women and pointed her in the right direction, they are obviously at some sort of festival which seems to be in Britain somewhere.
Amanda H (New York )
I saw the map too and thought he helped her find something.
Hannah Kane (Old Forge)
I hadn't really thought about the officer holding a map. However, I agree it is possible he was helping the woman to find something.
Nieves (London)
During our VTS session, Edward said that he thought the woman was robbed. The police caught the thief and the woman was thanking him by hugging him because they helped her.
Dannielle Geneus (New Jersey )
what I see in this picture is see a hispanic looking girl hugging a white police man. The girl looks extremely happy hugging hugging him. it looks like they have some type of love between eachother just by the way they're embracing each other. But it looks like theirs some type of event going on. The police men was there for protection and showing directions because he had a map in his hand.
Kastler High School (France)
In this picture, we can see two bobbies in the street maybe during a demonstration. And there is a woman who hugs the bobby. Even if he is a bobby and he has to control the demonstration he can have the same opinion as demonstrater.
Derin Baysal (Houston, TX)
In this picture you can see a woman wearing bright colors hugging a police officer; they both seem to be enjoying eachothers company as they are both showing large grins. You can tell this picture was taken in Great Britain, I made this assumption based on what the police officers were wearing as in America they don't wear hats shaped like that. This seems to be at a large outdoors event as you can see the street seems flooded by people even though their faces are out of focus. These police officers seem quite at ease and actually seem to be enjoying themselves as all the people around them are happy and the whole vibe of this events makes people happy even the people who are supposed to be enforcing the law and keeping peace. All in all I see this as a large event which allows for people to be happy even the tough guys.
olivia (shaker high school)
Love conquers all. No matter color, age, race, gender, job, no matter what it is love conquers all. The woman who is of color is smiling and hugging a police officer. In this day and age that is a rare thing to see due to all the racial tensions between POC and the law enforcement. Now a days there’s so much racial problems with the law that POC are rioting and trying to prove that their lives are just as important and most people view this as them trying to persuade people that they are superior when in fact they just want to be viewed as equal to the white man. Seeing as white people have never once been oppressed in their lives and that they have stolen everything they own now, this image is a blessing to see. That people can get over skin color and realize that love TRUMPS hate.
Jonah T (Houston)
In this picture, three people are visible with a blurred background. There are two streetcops, one tall and skinny and the other short and round, and a civilian woman hugging on the smiling round cop. Since we can see a lot of people passing by in the background, it can be inferred that the police are maintaining the peace at some sort of public event. The women looks to be apart of this event and may even be under the influence of some substance, causing her to act without thinking and allowing her to be loose and start to play with the cops. The policemen, having a good sense of humor, don’t see the problem of having a bit of fun and kind of go along with it. By the look on their faces, they were probably taken back by this woman’s behavior and were not expecting this. Since that police uniform is not common to the U.S., the picture may have taken place in another country.
Tayler (Juneau-Douglas High School)
It looks like the woman in yellow is hugging the man because shes happy to see him, and the cop looks pleased to see her too. In the back it looks like there is a event going on maybe like a parade.
Luis Carlos (Mexico)
In the picture we can see 2 police officers and a woman in the street. It looks like if they were in a manifestation, or some event like that. We can see how the woman it´s hugging one of the officers, while the other one it´s just looking at them.
Rodolfo Ceballos (México)
I see a citizen woman happily embracing a policeman, in the background you can see a muktitud, probably the woman is part of a movement where the attention of the police caught the attention, besides the police takes a map of the city, know where the movement is going to move constantly.
Haaris D. (Houston, TX)
From the photograph, it is clear to see that the woman in yellow is having a good time at an event and the police officer has no problem with it. Also you can tell this event is somewhere in the U.K. First, to address the woman in yellow. I think her face says it all, she is happy and appears to be singing a song due to the way her mouth is formed. Second, is the police officer. He also seems to be happy because he has a big smile on his face. These two officers also seem to be in the U.K. because of their district uniforms with one of the officers wearing a “bobby” helmet. Overall looking at the picture, everyone in it seems to be having a good time at a social event in the U.K.
brianna gailes (palmdale)
I see that a lady is hugging the police officer and he also looks very happy. I say he is happy because he is clearly smiling at her and she has her arms on him.Its more people around them so it looks like a march.
Soriah (SHS)
In this picture there is a Women hugging a police officer. They are also sharing a loving smile with one another. I also see another police officer looking back at them with a smile on his face too. In addition there is a crowd in the background, some the people look very jubilant. It looks like everybody is celebrating something. You can also tell that the two men are police officers because have hand cuffs and badges.
olivia (shaker high school)
I agree and i love your response. With the recent events happening in the news lately is fantastic to see such love.
Kristin Lenoir (USA)
A woman, dressed brightly, is going in to hug a smiling police officer as another smiling officer observes. The atmosphere overall seems to be happy and inviting. Many of the people in the background are smiling and seem to be in goods moods. The whole picture seems to take place during a festival, or something similar, somewhere in England.
riah (pdale)
i see a lady hugging a police officer. You can tell he is a police officer because of his badge and other clothes the police in the back is smiling at the women and looks amused
colin florilus (giansvilles high school)
think that this picture is of some couple hugging . or this could be person that is just hugging a officers just to hug the officer.
Miranda Calvillo (USA)
In the picture I can see it is more focused on the women, and the two policeman. Everyone in the picture are smiling and happy as if they are celebrating. The women is going in for a hug with one of the police officers clearly showing how happy she is.
Soriah (SHS)
This is very true the pictures main focus is the woman and the police officer. It makes me wonder what what being celebrated, and if even became friends after that moment. Its also a beautiful moment to see, especially with all the tragedies happening in the world today.
Jenny Tran (USA)
In the photo, first I see a lady hugging a police officer and they smile at each other. From the outfit of the officer, I think it is probably somewhere in England. There are many people behind them. Some of them smile and some use their phone to record something. I think it may be a festival or an event on the street because people seem happy and excited and also I notice the police officer holds a map of the area so I guess it may be a festival happening.
Alvaro Gomez (USA)
The officer and the women are hugging probably because he solved her problem or they're celebrating some type of event. I see a background of people also smiling. The women and officer seem to have accomplished something together probably as teamwork. The officer is also holding a map around the city.
Allen Moody (USA)
n this picture I see the camera focused on 3 people 2 policemen and a lady. The lady is hugging the police officer to the left of the photo and the police officer is smiling at her while the police officer to the right of the photo is looking at them with a grin. and everyone in the background of the photo is smiling so the police could have saved someone's life and they're just celebrating.
Chris (The Kinkaid school)
In this picture that appears to take place in Europe, possibly London, a crowd is gathered somewhere with the police in the area. It does not seem to be a riot, but rather a peaceful gathering. The women wrapping her arms around the policemen, the smiles of the citizens in the crowd, and the joyful mood of the policemen indicate the tranquility of the event. Due to the upbeat atmosphere of this picture, it seems there is a airy event that is impacting the people and possibly the city.
Dina P (USA)
Two people are hugging in this picture even look like they're celebrating some sort of event. I see a big crowd behind the officers and woman also smiling. The women seems to be hugging the officer as though they have aqccomplished something and are happy. It seems like the women is grateful for the officer, which look British. I can also see that the officer is holding what can be assumed is a map to the city they're in.
andrea lendo (obregon,sonora)
In this image we can see a woman and 2 policemen , behind them also we can see a big group of people. for that reason i can deduce that they are in a manifestation in the street or something similar. The thing that focus my look is the woman and one of the policemen because the woman is hugging him and the faces of both look happy.
Karinna Güicho (Sonora)
I think this picture was taken in the UK because of the uniforms that the police officers has on. It looks like it is summer because of the type of clothing they are wearing. The women hugging the police officer seems to be very happy. The police officer is holding a map in his hand so maybe he showed her directions to where she needed to go. Everyone in the background looks very happy and they all seems to be facing the same way looking at something in the distance.
Alberto Rivas (Mexico )
I think this picture takes place in the UK because of the police attire. Surrounding the main three people there are many other men and women. This photo requires deep thinking and a close eye find details that help you make out whats going on in the photo. I think that theres some type of parade or movement in this location because if you look closely there are other cops around a well. From previous events on the news of other movements there were many cops around. I also interpreted this picture as if she's thanking him for his service and doing his job to protect others.
Jorge Acosta (Ciudad Obregon)
What i think it's going in the picture is that the guy of the left that is with the woman , make something great or save somebody and the woman come to thank him about what he do, and she is trying to kiss him because she is very close of his mouth, and the other guy is seeing what's happening , what makes me say this is that they are like in a festival or something like that because there is a lot of people.
Luis Gustavo Soto (Sonora)
I can see that there are a woman and a policeman who are hugging each other with an expression of happiness. In the background i can see a crowd like it were a event or something like that and that is why there are police around.
Sofia Martinez (Mexico)
In this picture we can see two policemen and one woman, they seems to be in a manifestation in the street. The woman is flirting with one of the policeman, we can say that because the lady have her arms around the police neck which is innapropiate if the policeman is in service turn during the manifestation. The other policeman is looking at them very suspicious.
Ana (shs)
I also believe that if a policeman is working he should not be celebrating with a woman at least if she was the girlfriend
Elian (Cd Obregon)
It is strange, like the world at this time, in this new style of life that people carry today. So much racism today, seeing this picture, I think "why life is not like that, because we can not love each other no matter what they say". This photo I feel describes the happiness of two people who want to be together but are separated by the world and the official who is immediately aware of them and notices that it is love, simply that, he is happy for his partner.
Camila (Houston)
This is an image of an African-American woman hugging a police officer at an European festival. It seems to be modern times because of the uniforms on the police officers and the clothing that the woman is wearing. Having been to Europe, one would recognize those uniforms clearly. The woman’s clothes also reveal something about the time period because the neon and tight jeans with a belt buckle are something we could see at a festival today. It also seems to be a festival because everyone is happy. It is clear that most in the picture are happy as the woman hugging the officer has her lips pursed about to smile and both officers have a bright gleeming smile across their faces. People in the background are also in awe and smiling with there mouths open with astonishment and shining with smiles. This image has to have been take in Europe. This is evident as their uniforms are the ones that are used in Europe for their police force. This image, while it seems self explanatory and has lots of detail to back up that claim, it leaves the viewer with questions. One may wonder why the police are there if everyone seems calm, or perhaps what the gathering is for, and so we wait for the reveal.
Fátima (Mexico)
In this picture there are two cops and a girl, It seems like there are in a festival and they are taking care of the event. The girl is hugging on of the cops and the other is looking happy at them. I think that the cop is a friend or a member of her family and she found it there and she is happy to see him.
Lauren (Texas)
In this picture, it seems as though there’s a woman that is attempting to distract a police officer. To me, the look on her face looks a little bit suspicious, but the cop seems to be buying it. She has her shirt tied up and her arms around his neck. The cop appears to be loving every second of it, but his job is to make sure everyone stays safe. The cop behind him is looking back and smiling at the woman, as well. It seems like the cop has been distracted by this woman because of her romantic behavior.
Paula Sofia (Sonora, Mx)
In this picture we can see two cops that are like in a place where is many people they are like in a festival or something like that, they are trying to keep safe the streets, a woman is hugging one of the cops she looks very excited
Sam S (Houston Texas)
In this photo, two British cops are trying to keep the streets safe in England during some type of Parade, while also taking part in some of the festivities. The faces and uniforms of the police officers definitely point to them being English. Also, the colorful attire of the women and the busseling people in the background shows that there is some type of parade.
Sterling (Old forge NY)
it looks like a festival is going on and one of the performers is hugging a police officer
Blaise Schuenemann (Texas)
In this photo, It seems that there is a public event somewhere maybe in Europe. Because of the cops hat one can see that the picture is not in America. The crowds of people in the background show that there is a big gathering of some sort of public parade or festival. The woman seems happy as we can see by her facial expression and how she is hugging the policeman. This event seems to be positive because all of the pole seem to have happy expressions
Hudson McLeroy (Texas)
In this photo, I believe there is a parade or public event going on and the women is so immense with joy that she hugs the policemen. It seems to be somewhere in England because of the way the cops dress; also, they do not seem to have any firearm, which also suggests that this is in England. The reason I think it is a parade of some sort is because everyone seems to be in good spirits. The cop is smiling, the lady is smiling, the other cop is smiling, and everyone in the background is smiling as well.
Jackson Griggs (The Kinkaid School)
In this picture there is a lady hugging a police officer. You can tell he is a police officer because of his badge and other clothes. He might have done something really nice for the woman hugging him, or maybe they are just friends. Also it looks like there is some big parade or something of that sort going on in the background. Everybody in the picture looks very happy, and it looks like it is a nice day outside.
Adryana (Texas)
The picture shows two officers in a crowd of people, both with smiles on their faces. A lady is hugging one officer with a smile on her face as well. Perhaps, they are friends of some sort or she is showing a gesture of appreciation towards the officer because she is greeting him with a hug. In the photo, one can tell they are officers because of the way they are dressed: in uniform with gadgets such as handcuffs and walkie talkies. One can also interpret that these people are at some kind of celebratory event because of the crowd’s smiles, while also having security for safety. Also, something eventful must be catching the eyes of the crowd because they are all gazing in the direction to the top left.
Jared Kane (Old Forge, Ny)
After viewing this image I see some sort of festival going on in the streets of a big city with all kinds of people. In the picture, the people in the background are happy with smiles on their faces and their cameras out. All the people are looking up in the same direction with their cameras pointing. They might be looking at some sort of parade or other event that is causing their attention. In the focus of the image, there are two police officers who seem to be British. One of the officers is being hugged by a woman, which it looks like she is thanking him. I think the woman is hugging the officer because she might have been lost or needed help, and the police officer helps here or gave her directions. I believe this because the police officer is holding some sort of map with directions on it. In this image, I can also see the other officer smiling and watching the officer being hugged by the women and listening to their conversation. I think that their conversation had to of been good or out of kindness because of the hug between the officer holding the map and the women and because the other officer smiling and watching them.
Eclaw (Texas)
This picture shows a woman with her arms around a police officer, and there are smiles on both of their faces. It looks as if they are in a crowd, because of the many people in the background. Perhaps it is a protest of some sorts, but I don’t see any signs or posters in the back. The police officer on the right is also grinning and looking at the lady with her arms around the other police officer. Maybe the lady in the neon top is embracing the police officer as a sign of gratitude or thanks.
Jen (Prather)
I can't seem to find where you gave us more information about the picture. Could you point in the right direction? Thanks
Kevin Meza (Providences RI)
I see a officer about to get hugged by a woman and they look very happy. its looks like a festival is happening in the back everybody i having a good time
Emiliano Maldonado (Providence,RI)
The woman seems to have her arms around the cop and they seem to be smiling at each other, The Cops friend is standing next to them looking happy for them, They both seem to be police, and there's a load whole of other people in the background, They seem to be in a city and the police officer seems to have a headset on his ear,and both police officers seem to be wearing different hats.
Quentin Fullen (02908)
What I see is going on in this picture is that it looks a women hugging on to like either a security guard or a police officer it looks like the women culture is black and Spanish and it looks like the women is thanking the police officer or security guard and in the background there is a bunch of people standing smiling and taking pictures the country I think that the country there in is in the UK
Jazzmin Abdul-Rashid (Providence, RI)
There are two police man and a lady, the lady has her arms wrapped around the short police men's neck. They might either be relatives/friends or they have a relationship. The tall police man, I guess the short police man's partner is checking them out. And there is a big group of people behind them, watching them.
Melvin Herrera (Chiraq)
I see a Latina or African American women hugging a white officer, probably during a protest or debate
Nathan Estrada (Providence, RI)
I see a woman in her 40s with a neon green shirt, black belt and light blue jeans giving a hug to a police officer that looks like he's in his 30s with short blonde hair, earpiece, phone and watch. he's wearing a checkered hat and a black vest over a white rolled up button up shirt. the woman has earings and the neon shirt is tied next to her chest and she's wearing a short black tank top under it. there is another police officer to the side and he kinda looks jealous or happy. he is wearing a different hat, it's pointy and has a badge on it. In the background, there is a bunch of people so it looks like a huge party or gathering. besides the 3 people in the front, everyone else is blurred out which shows the author of the picture wanted us to focus on the people that is in the front
Blake C. (Providence RI)
In this picture I see the camera focused on 3 people 2 policemen and a lady. The lady is hugging the police officer to the left of the photo and the police officer is smiling at her while the police officer to the right of the photo is looking at them with a grin. and everyone in the background of the photo is smiling so the police could have saved someone's life and they're just celebrating.
kimberly aybar (providence )
I see a lot of people in the background. I see three police officers, one of the police officers you cannot see completely but you can see the hat and some of his uniform. I also see one of the police officers with a women and the women is hugging the officers. The police officer respects her, he is even touching her but he is smiling at her.
Pamela Cruz (Providence R.I)

In the image there are two policemen, there is also a woman with a blouse tied to the side is green, the two policemen are standing and one of them is looking at them, behind them there are more people, it makes me think it's like a strike.
alexia (providence, RI)
i see a woman hugging a police, and there's another police looking at them.
Wyatt B (Old Forge NY)
I believe that this photo is some sort of event in the UK. I think this was a celebration of something good that may have happened. Everyone seems to be smiling and even hugging a police officer. I believe that the police officers may have saved someone or prevented something from happening that could explain the rejoiceful looks in the people. I also see a subway map in the police officers hand that could explain why everyone is rejoicing. Maybe they prevented a terror attack.
laicha Rodriguez (providences )
I see a woman who hugs a man from the police and I see that the woman is a Latino race.
Lahtifa (SHS)
Based on what you see, why do you think the women is hugging the police?
wally (providence)
In the picture, I see two cops smiling and a woman about to kiss one cop.
Scott M. (Texas)
I think that this is some event in England, where something very good happened. Everyone is smiling and a woman is hugging one of the police officers there. Maybe something involving the police officers happened, or maybe everyone is just extremely happy about whatever happened. Considering the map of the subway in the police officers hand, i'm gonna guess they saved a subway bomb from exploding.
alvania sanchez (providence , RI)
in this picture i see a black woman hugging a police officer and another officer looking at them and theres a group of people in the back ground and it looks like there having a speech said by the officers and i say this because one of the officers has a mircophone to his ear and it looks like the black woman has a neon green crop top and white pants. it looks like she is thanking the officer for something he must of did to help the community.
Cindy (Lira-Lozano )
What I believe is going in the picture is a multicultural event. When you take a first look at this, you see an African American woman and 2 white police officers; all looking happy and seem that they get along As you can see, there is many people of color. To the far right of this picture, everyone seems to be looking up to the left of the picture.
Devon bliss (Providence, Rhode island)
so there is a girl in a lemon highlighter color t-shirt tied at the bottom like a crop top. she has her hand wrapt around a British police officer like she is going to kiss him. He is smiling with one headphone in his ear like a mic. his partner is watching them with an orange and white rubber band. the man next to the girl is holding a map.The lady is wearing a black top cut down to her belly bottom. She seems to be in her thirty's. She is an African American women she is wearing hooped earrings.her hair goes down to her lower back she is wearing a black belt with what looks like diamonds on it. she it wearing light blue jeans. It looks like a regular day in London but you cant see nothing in the back round but a crowd of people.
Elijah M. Rodriguez (Providence, RI)
The focus of the picture is three people: a black woman and two white police officers. The woman and one officer are about to hug, and they are smiling. The second police officer is facing away but is looking at the other two. He is smiling. Everyone else in the background seems to be focused on something that isn't shown in the picture. There is even one person all the way to the right that appears to be recording herself.
Adam g. (Redmond)
I see that there are three cops in this picture and that on at least one of their hats there is a crown which makes me think they are British because Britain is a monarchy hence the crown. I also see the large amount of people around them and I think it is some sort of walk or parade because it seems they are all smiling so it is probably not a protest.
Eliana Estes (Houston, TX)
At first glance, this picture depicts 3 people; an African American woman, and 2 white police officers. In the background, many people of all shapes and colors face to the left. This leads me to the conclusion that there is some sort of entertainment going on to the left, possibly a concert. The fact that there are police officers tells you that it's probably a very big concert with many many people. Next, the man standing in front of the farthest officer to the left has a camera. This is a camera, and honestly, people just use their phones now, because they have cameras on them. Having to use a real camera shows us that this is probably not the most recent picture, most likely from the early 2000s. Next, the hat on the officer is not one you see in America. The round shape is something you see more of in Europe, most likely England, which is probably where this is. Also, the map in officer one’s hand is not something you see in America, maybe other than in New York. Now, the man and the woman. They both seem to be smiling, which hints that the woman knows the officer and isn’t just hugging him, he also doesn’t seem very standoffish. I can’t quite figure out their relationship, but I truly believe they aren’t total strangers.
xtaforster (Houston, TX)
Interesting and extremely observant point about the camera placing this picture in a earlier time period; it turns out, you're right: 2009!!
Zack (NY)
In this picture, I think that there is a racial rights movement in an Urban city. I think that the lady is giving the man a hug thanking him for making her presence acceptable in many places of the world.
Charles (Houston)
In this picture, there seems to be a parade or celebration in the streets of a European country. I think the badge on the policeman reads "Metropolitan Police" and that makes me believe that this is in a densely populated city, and the fact that it is in English leads me to believe this is in London. All of the people pictured seem to be in good spirits, including the cops. There does not seem to be any issue that would call for police, but they are there to monitor the festival and keep it safe. The clothing makes me think that it is hot or at least warm in the street. A festival is going on in the summer in London, and the police are monitoring the streets to make sure nothing goes out of control.
stosh (shs)
I agree with your comment. Its definitely in the UK and the police aren't there for an emergency they're there to keep the people safe at the event
Joe D (New York)
I think that this picture is taken place at a street rally. I believe this by how there are a lot of people crowded around in a public area. I can tell that it is a public street by the signs in the back ground. It looks like it is a friendly event by the people smiling and how happy the police officer and the women look!
Kishan B (Redmond)
I think this is some sort of festival in a European country. A few things lead me to this conclusion. The first piece of evidence is the policeman's uniform. It looks more like the uniform of some European nations. There is a large crowd in the background so we can tell that they are gathering for some sort event. The people all appear to be happy and they are not all looking towards one direction as people might do for a parade, so I am guessing that it is a festival of some sort.
Zack (NY)
I agree with you. think they are rallying and gathering for an event.
stosh (shs)
I like your comment a lot. You gave a very detailed description on where you thought this was and why they were hugging. My favorite comment yet!
Saint Seb (some place w/ joshua trees)
In this picture, I believe the setting is some festival or concert. While the police are there as security to keep the crowd in check and safe, a lady approaches one of the officers and tries to persuade him to dance with her. She is hugging him and trying to get the police to enjoy their time there as well.
Joe D (New York)
I like this comment a lot! The festival/ concert theme definitely makes sense by how everyone is crowded with police officers all around. It also does look like the women is trying to persuade and convince the office to dance with her around the streets with her. Everyone in the picture looks like they're having a great time and matches your thoughts very well!
Elsa V (Old Forge, NY)
In this picture, there are many people in the background all wearing blue, and most of the people seem to be focused on something in front of them. Some are even taking videos. There is a mix of races both in and out of focus in the picture. In the main focus of the picture, there is a woman with her arms around a British police officer. The two people seem very happy and so does the police who is looking at them. The policeman is holding a map in his left hand. The man seems a little surprised that the woman is hugging him as he is not hugging her back. He is married while the woman is not, and his lack of hugging her suggests that they are strangers to each other. However, they both seem very happy at whatever is going on. He could have just helped her find directions because he has a map and she could be saying thank you. Everyone seems to be very happy in this picture so they could be at a concert, festival or something of the sort which are common in the summertime.
Alana H (Old Forge, NY)
I applaud your attention to details, as I did not notice some of the things you did. Excellent observation, I like how you interpreted the picture.
Brooke Schweisnberg (Old Forge NY )
I think this picture was taken in the UK because of the uniforms that the police officers has on. It looks like it is summer because of the type of clothing they are wearing. The women hugging the police officer seems to be very happy. The police officer is holding a map in his hand so maybe he showed her directions to where she needed to go. Everyone in the background looks very happy and they all seems to be facing the same way looking at something in the distance.
Tony G. (OF,NY)
I think that there is a race or some kind of marathon going on that is why everybody behind the cops are looking Beyond and past the cops. The cop with the white hat which is different from all the other cops is being hugged by the lady because he helped her with a certain question and she's thanking him with a hug.
MC (Old Forge, NY)
Great speculation!! MC
Grady B (Old Forge, NY)
A marathon? I never thought of that, great observation Tony!
Sarah B (Old Forge N.Y)
That's a cool thought, I didn't think that the difference in police officers could symbolize different countries joining in on the festivities. Nice interoperation.
gregory fermin (providence )
i see a girl
Alyssa Green (Old Forge, N.Y. )
In this picture, i think that there is some type of law being passed. I believe this because there are many people smiling. Also, the people in the background are all looking in one direction. This could mean that someone is talking about a law being made. Lastly, I think that it is a law being passed because the girl is hugging a police officer. More things that I can find about this picture is that it is in London. I can say this because one of the police officers are wearing a weird well what we called weird helmet. We do not see these helmets in NY, therefore that is why I would say this. Another thing that I can infer about this photograph is that it could be summer. This is because the girl that is hugging the police officer is wearing a cutoff shirt, the police officers are wearing short sleeve, and the crowd in the back is wearing tank tops and cut off shirt also.
Hannah N (Old Forge NY)
I think that this image is in a city in the Uk.. You can tell this is in a city because in the background you can see tall buildings with billboards and signs on them and you can tell this is in the UK because the police are wearing the attire that a cop would wear in the UK such as the tall hat with the metal and the short one with the checkered pattern. The women hugging the policeman in wearing something that could be part of an event because of the cut neon colored t shirt which I think is something people wear to an event in the community or a parade. The people in the background are looking towards the same direction and smiling which makes me believe that this is a happy event. The policeman on the right looks as if he was looking at something else but got distracted by the woman hugging the other policeman, he has a smile because the woman looks as if she is thanking the policeman for something and everyone looks as if they are having a good time. The policeman on the right is also wearing a bracelet that has red and white colors on them, red and white symbolize fire and blood, energy, war, danger, power, determination, passion, and desire. Either the event that these people are at has something to do with one of those things or it represents something to the police force.
Skyler M (Old Forge N.Y)
I believe that is picture was Taken in London at a parade. The reason why I think this is because the police officers hat has a checkered hat on them and the way the hats are shaped. Also, I think the reason why the girl is hugging the officer is because he could of helped her find her way because in the bottom of the picture it shows him holding a map, to me I first think that she might have not known where she was or supposed to be going, so he helped her out by finding the right way. If you look in the crowd everyone is cheering and looking happy.
Skyler M (Old Forge N.Y)
A woman is hugging the man, however the man does not seem to interested There is people attracted to something else besides the scene that they captured. It looks like they are in the United Kingdom. He is holding a map. I think that they are at a parade. The obvious one is that there is a woman hugging a man, I think this represents that the police officer helped her and the woman could not be happier. However, the man does not seem interested in her hug because she is hugging him and the police officer is smiling but not showing that he wants to hug her.Behind the Men and the woman you can see on the crowds faces that something else is going on and that this scene does not seem to interested.I inferred that these hats are from the United Kingdom because if you look at the other man on the right, he is not wearing a police hat there we see in the United states, however I know that the they use checker police hats in the United Kingdom. Towards the bottom of the picture, I saw the policeman holding a map. This is one of the last clued I had seen. This could show that there is something big going on, because whenever there is a big even the police officers a
Sarah B (Old Forge N.Y)
I believe that this picture was taken in London during the Carribean Culture festival that features music, dancing, performances, etc. If so, the woman's brightly colored and happy looking attire fits into the scenario. I can interpret that this picture was taken in London because on the hat of the police officer that is smiling back at the woman and the other police officer, features a crown, immediately I thought of England. Also on the vest of the police officer, the word Metropolitan is placed above the word police. The police officer that the woman is hugging has a wedding band on his hand and the woman does not so they are not in a relationship as long as the police officer has the decency to not cheat on his spouse. Through context, I’m going to take an educated guess that the police officer helped the woman figure out the place she is going to because he is holding a map or that she is just showing him a bit of the culture that she knows through being kind and sharing the happiness that she is experiencing. All the people in the background are looking off at something in the distance to the left and they all look very pleased and content.
Renee Smith (TOWschool)
I believe that this image is capturing a some kind of festival or gathering in a city. I can infer this from the police man and city maps. Also by the large group of happy people. This takes place in a metropolitan area. I know this because the policeman's uniform states “metropolitan police”. Most likely Britain because of the crown on their hats. The woman and man aren't married I can tell this from the lack of a wedding ring on her hand. The woman could have been hugging the man out of joy or from being thankful for his service.
Maria Lutz (New York )
This picture looks that it was taken in the UK because of there uniform. It seems to be a festival, protest, or any event. The woman seems to be very happy with the cop and may be in a relationship with him, although she seems much older. The one cop has a different location than the others. They all seem very joyful and the people in the back seem very interested in the event. The cop and the woman seem very happy together.
Brooke Schweinsberg (Old Forge NY )
I agree with you, it looks like they are at a festival having lots of fun!
Alana H (Old Forge, NY)
I think this photograph takes place in London, England. I can infer that because the policeman on the right is wearing a custodian helmet, and the other policeman is wearing a flat, peaked hat with Sillitoe Tartan on it, providing additional evidence that the photograph was taken in London, as the Sillitoe Tartan is most common in England. I believe that the photo was taken in the summer, based on the clothes the woman who is hugging the police officer is wearing, and how far the police officers’ sleeves are rolled. I think this photo was taken at the Notting Hill Carnival, which celebrates Caribbean culture, as they are wearing bright colored clothes, and it is possible the woman is of Caribbean ethnicity. Both the police officers and woman are smiling, bringing me to believe it is a happy event, and based on the bystanders' gazes, something seems to be happening that is not shown in the photo. I also think the woman is thanking the officer, or she is overjoyed by what has happened.
Annaliese E (Old Forge NY)
In this picture we see two men and a woman, the men are both wearing police hats, lettering can be seen on the shirt of the man on the left it says 'metropolitan police' this and the hats leads me to believe that this is in London or somewhere in England. The picture seems to feature some kind of festival or celebration that may be about diversity, I know that in London, culture festivals are a large and anticipated occasion for some people so maybe that is what shown in this picture.
Laura B (Old Forge, New York)
What’s going on in this picture is there is a parade. The thing that makes me say this is because there are a lot of people looking at the same thing and seem happy. There are also police officers that could be keeping the crowd controlled. One of the police officers is holding a map of roads he could be using to give directions. There is a woman dressed up and is hugging one of the officers.
Dawson D (Old Forge Ny)
I believe that this picture has been taken somewhere in Europe based on the map the police officer is holding and the attire the policemen are wearing. I think that something happy or important has happened maybe a local election which is why everyone in the background is facing the left side of the picture, and there is a woman with a camera, although the camera is pointed at her which makes me A: think it's an event and B: Think it's been taken in an area with tourists, and I think that the woman is so happy about what has just happened that she is embracing the police officer. I am further led to think that this is a happy event by the way that the woman is dressed
Jared Kane (Old Forge, Ny)
I agree with you, I also think there is some sort of election or festival which is why the picture is full of tourists looking and pointing their cameras in one direction.
Ethan Ehrensbeck (Old Forge NY)
I think this picture is a parade. The reason I say this is because of the people in the background staring at something, also they seem to be smiling and happy. The girl that is hugging the police is a prime example of the joy in this picture. It looks to be in a metropolitan area, so it is most likely in a big city.
Tony G. (OF,NY)
I agree, I think it's either a parade or a marathon
Alysha (Auburn)
I think that they are at some festival where the lady is not at her best. I think that she is not knowing what she is doing and she is flirting with an officer. I think she is in Britain.
Lydia Oliver (Auburn)
This is some type of parade going on in Britain, it might have taken on in the early 2000 based on some of the fashion choices. In this picture.
Maeve (Boston )
I think this is in the early 2000s in a festival or parade in Britan. I think this becuase of the lady's fashion and the cops uniforms, also the map looks like it maps out a route, that is why it could be a parade.
Jimmy Connell (old forge NY)
I think this photo was taken at some gathering where everyone is happy. I think that it is taken place in a country where there is a monarchy due to the crown on the officers' hat.
Collin W (Old Forge NY)
This picture is showing that all of the people are having a good time and they are happy. I think that the woman is dancing with the police officer because everyone in the background can be seen looking at something and another girl has a camera. This also seem to be in England because the police hat and helmet are a symbol for England.
C. Hal (South Pole, Antarctica )
I think this is a festival in Europe
Grady B (Old Forge, NY)
I think that there must be some sort of gathering or parade going on. Everyone seems to be laughing and smiling and if you look to the right in the background you can make out several men staring at something. I think that it is going on in England, Metropolitan police, the hats they wear and that there is a little crown on their helmets.
Brian (Alaska)
This is probably something good seeing how everybody is smileing, even in the background, and the lady is hugging the officer who is also happy. Based on the clothes it seems to be sometime within the past decade probably early 2000’s. Or it is a huge proposal, but you never know.
Natalie B (New York)
I think that this picture was taken in the United Kingdom because of the hats the police officers are wearing and because of the crown on one of the hats. It looks as though there are many people participating in a public event because of all the people in the background. I believe that the woman hugging the officer is happy to be at this event, or that something very good happened just before this picture was taken.
Alex Pujol (Washington)
In this picture i see a large group of people, policemen, and in the prominent foreground 3 people: a policeman, a differently dressed policeman, and a woman. It seems to be a celebration or a protest given the behaviors of the people in the background - the selfie at the right, the masses of people, & the large number policemen. There isn't really enough information to discern the background so i'll just call it a celebration and move onto the foreground. It seems to me that the two people on the left (flat hat cop and the women in the neon) could be married, they both have rings on their fingers and their body language indicates they are fairly close. The man on the right appears to be happy for them, but not involved. Other than the many people in the background we can also figure out that this is taking place in england given that the majority of the policemen are wearing the large black hat just as the man on the right, which can be inferred from the badge on their hat
Leah E (Old Forge)
I believe that this is a festival of some sort, that the sops are there for safety measures. This is in a place where a monarchy form of government is still relevant, or one was dominant, as there is a crown on the right cop's hat. This crown is displayed on Ontario license plates as well. Ultimately, I think this is in Britain, judging by the police attire.
Trinity L (Old Forge NY)
I think that it's awesome that you noticed the similarity between the police hats and the Ontario license plates.
Jacob Bolton (Old Forge NY)
When I look at this image, I see police officers, one of them is being hugged by a woman. One of their hats looks like an upside-down bucket and has the emblem of a crown on it. The officer getting hugged has a more flat top hat, what we more commonly see here in the U.S. They are wearing vests that indicate they are police, and the way police is written on the vests the two officers are wearing contrasts. The officer with the bucket helmet seems to have police written smaller than the flat top hat officer. The officer with the flat top hat is probably a higher ranking policeman than the other officer, this is because you can see a few other officers in the back wearing the bucket helmet indicating it is more common. This was more than likely taken in an area controlled by the U.K. One piece of evidence of this is that they don't appear to have any firearms on them and the crown revealing they have monarchs. Perhaps this picture was taken at a marathon, and the women hugging the police officer is thanking him for protecting the race, that would explain the crowd and the number of officers. If this had been taken at an event where someone had been injured, the women and the officers would not be grinning as hard. Also, on the officers you can see a map, perhaps the race course, also on there left shoulder, appears to be a miniature flashlight, and they have earpieces in, perhaps letting them know what's going on in the race.
Ethan Ehrensbeck (Old Forge NY)
I never thought of it being a race. That is an interesting way to look at it.
Megan D (Old Forge, NY)
In this picture I infer that this is some sort of peaceful protest or a parade because of all the people in the back. The lady hugging the police officer is also dressed as if she would be at a parade because of her brightly colored shirt. I think that everyone is enjoying themselves because it does not give off a dire feeling while looking at this. This is mainly focused upon the three people in the front which are the two police officers and the lady hugging one of the police officers. It's unusual that a stranger would hug a police officer unless she is thanking him or knows him personally. I am also not sure where they are located but it seems as if they are in the UK.
Trinity L (Old Forge NY)
I think that this photograph takes place in the UK because of what the majority of the policeman are wearing. Everyone seems to be happy and smiling including the policemen so I think something good must've happened or that there is a fun event going on. I believe that the woman hugging the policeman is doing so out of thanks for his actions or is just really happy.
Patrick (SHS, NY)
I agree. I think it's probably near London based on the map in the officers hand. The hats and vests the officers are wearing are also signs of the UK. I think it might be a summer festival.
Julie B (Old Forge Ny )
I believe that the two police men are Metropolitan police I think this because the one officer with the checkered hat and underneath his label looks like it says Metropolitan on it. I think there is some sort of street party or a peaceful protest going on because the girl in this photo looks like she's having a good time and looks happy swell as the other people in this photo. I also think that this party or whatever is going on has to do with bright colors or the color blue i think this because a lot of people are wearing blue like the officers wristband and the small amount on the girls shirt also, a lot of people in the background are wearing blue.
Jacob Bolton (Old Forge NY)
I love your use of the word metropolitan, it makes the paragraph glow!
Megan D (Old Forge, NY)
I think this is a good perspective on this photo. I never noticed that a lot of the people were wearing blue.
Richard-Andrew "Andy" Quodomine (New York)
I believe that the cop is either married to that woman or he just did something incredibly kind for her like save her life or help her cross the street. I also know that they are in Paris and or London due to the style of the second cop's hat.
Nolan F (New York)
I think that this photo was taken in the UK. It looks like something good happened because everyone is happy and the girl is hugging the police officer. It seems that it is a festival or parade because everyone is having a good time.
Rianna Lindsay (Old Forge, NY )
I think this picture takes place in the UK because of the police attire. Surrounding the main three people there are many other men and women. This photo requires deep thinking and a close eye find details that help you make out whats going on in the photo. I think that theres some type of parade or movement in this location because if you look closely there are other cops around a well. From previous events on the news of other movements there were many cops around. I also interpreted this picture as if she's thanking him for his service and doing his job to protect others.
Clay Dawg (Inlet Ny)
The Photo here is probably taken at a gathering or festival of some sort because of the looks on the people's faces. From my background knowledge, the picture was taken in a British populated country due to the police officers hat and the way their uniforms look.
Zoe (Massachusetts )
Location- Britain. Some kind of parade is going on, and one of the people involved in the parade is hugging a police officer. The police officer is clearly happy.
David (Auburn)

Brendan (Massachusetts)
I think that this photo is a police officer from England who is at some sort of march or something.
Alexander Fielteau (Old forge Ny)
I think this photo takes place in the UK. It seems to be a special event going on like a festival or a carnival. Everyone looks happy and is having a good time. The reason I believe it is in the UK because the shape of the police officers hats and they aren't carrying any guns.
Aaron (Boston)
This lady is a bit intoxicated and she is having fun at a parade in Britain.
shdu (WA state)
I think the woman made a protest about a law that received attention and was considered/accepted by the police because there are many people around who also pay attention to the woman and the police and the woman and police are smiling. Also, I think the police that the woman has her arms on traveled there from somewhere else because he is wearing a different hat and he seems to have a map in his hand.
Dylan L (NY)
I think this was taken at some festival or parade because of all the people in the streets smiling and having a good time. This looks like it is taken place in the UK because of the hats and police helmets.
Nolan F (New York)
I agree with this because I think that it is in the UK as well and I also think there is a parade or festival going on.
Collin W (Old Forge NY)
This is a very well written response, I agree with what you have said. I like how you included the evidence of the hat and helmet.
Calvin B (New York)
I think this photo was taking place at a festival in England. I think this because the cop's hat looks like they are from England and everybody is having a good time.
Jimmy Connell (old forge NY)
Calvin this is a nice response, I took out a lot of the same things that you got from the picture.
Rachelle M (New York)
The police officer that is being hugged is wearing a Chicago police hat and the other officers are wearing British police hats. Since there is a variety of races in the crowd makes me think its in America. So I think it is some kind of memorial, festival or rally including Britains and Chicago police officers because of the people all looking one way and taking pictures and smiling.
MC (Old Forge, NY)
Very good use of visual clues. MC
Johanna L (New York)
In this photo, I think that the woman is hugging the police officer because something good has happened. I also think that the police officers did something good and the people are thankful for that because there are many people smiling in the background. The police officers are also smiling.
Natalie B (New York)
I think it's a very good assumption that the woman is hugging the police officer because of something good that happened. I like that you analyzed many different aspects of the picture and connected them.
Leah E (Old Forge)
I like how you evaluated the way the people's faces looked and made an inference going off of that.
Jeni Rojas (Kinkaid)
This photograph was taken in a parade because of the people in the background and by how the women is dressed with her tied up yellow shirt. The photograph focuses on three people: A woman that is hugging a police officer and another police officer looking over at them hugging. I can infer that the male subjects in the photograph are policemen because of the badges both of them have and by the way both policemen are dressed. Both male subjects are policemen from a England because that is not the way policemen in the U.S dress like and I recognize the pattern as the uniform policemen use in England. All three people in the photograph and the people in the background are smiling suggesting that the parade is not a serious one, rather the people are enjoying the event. This photograph is really unusual because in parades it would not strike me that a women would hug a policemen, but it may be that both the women and the police officer are really close friends. Both the policemen and the women seem to know each other pretty well by how comfortable their embrace looks.
Mari (Seattle)
In this picture a woman is happily hugging a police officer. They are at a parade or festival and they are in country outside of the U.S. (most likely England or France). I believe that the people are at a festival/ happy event because everyone (including the police men) appears to be happy and energetic in the background. I also think that it is a European country because the police officers uniforms are different from the U.S. police uniforms (Particularly the Hats). You can tell that the man is a police officer because his vest has a tag that says "POLICE" on it. They also seem to be in a crowded metropolitan area because there are many shops and banners in the background and there is an abnormally abundant amount of people in one place. There also appears to be some trees in the background and the other younger police officer is smiling at the older police officer being embraced by the woman.
Andrea Roundfield (PAVE Academy Red Hook 6B)
Ammar stated: I think the police officer is her husband. Serene stated: I think it is a time for police officer to take a break, because they are always busy or stressed. Judah stated: I believe they are in England. I believe a group is rallying while they are holding the peace down. I think a rallier/protester is embracing the officer as a sign of peace. Diego: I think this is in a small village. There was a shooting or something. this was an event to ease tension.
David L (Redmond)
In this picture, there are 3 men in police uniforms that are surrounded by a crowd, and one of them has a different hat and vest on that most likely indicates some sort of higher position. There is also a women in somewhat revealing clothing throwing her arms around the man in the different police uniform and in mid-sentence, while the man is smiling. One of the other men in police uniforms is turning around and smirking/smiling at the two. Most of the crowd behind them is looking to the left. Overall, I think that this is a festival or celebration of some sort in England, something that is important to the people. It is probably in England because of the tall police hats and uniforms. I would infer that it is a festival/celebration because the people you can see in the crowd are smiling and look happy, and the person throwing her arms around an officer looks to be drunkenly happy, and the fact that the officer has a nonthreatening expression on his face implies that he is OK with it, contrary to if it was a protest or riot.
Michael B (Houston, TX)
This photo was taken in an English speaking country, as the lettering on the officers vest tells us. The large amount of background people suggest that this is some sort of city-wide, social event. This event is probably an organized march because the officer is holding a map with a route planned out on it; therefore, rather than standing to keep the peace, the officers are stationed to aid in the flow and direction of the partakers. For three main reasons, there is a very high probability that the city in which this photo takes place is Chicago, Illinois. Firstly, the buildings in the background look rather large and industrialized, like those of a metropolitan city would. Second (and supporting the first reason), the map held by the officer very clearly depicts a big, complex city. These two details could influence a viewer to believe that this photo could’ve been taken in a wide variety of cities, such as New York, Houston, or Boston; however, the third clue points towards Chicago: the (left) police officer’s cap has a distinct checkered, black-and-white pattern at the base. A pattern like this found on a police cap is unique to Chicago. There’s also a strong indication that this is a dated photo: the woman on the very right of the screen is holding an actual camera, rather than an iPhone, while taking a selfie. Another interesting detail is that the officer on the right is wearing a colorful wristband that may be in the spirit of the social event.
Mychal M (Sammamish, WA)
We can determine what's going on in this picture by utilizing a few key observations. To start, the woman on the left has her arms around a grinning policeman (seen by the badge that reads "POLICE" on his vest) and is wearing casual, brightly colored attire. There is virtually no conflict in the image, leading me to believe that this picture is of a peaceful protest in England (inferred from the crown on the right policeman's helmet). In the background, there are many people, implying a gathering (protest) but they are all smiling (peaceful).
Emily Rudolph (Old Forge, NY)
The photo made me think a lot. There could really be almost anything going on in this photo and there are so many different scenarios that could be taken place in this photograph. I personally think that this photograph is showing a peaceful event since everyone in the photo appears to be happy and some would even say excited. I believe that this image was taken in the United Kingdom due to the hats the police officers are wearing, in the U.K. police officers wear the helmet like hats and the checker hats.
MC (Old Forge, NY)
Great speculation and interpretation. MC
Madison P (New York)
I agree with your idea about the police being from the U.K because of their hats; I thought the same thing. I also like the evidence and reasoning that you gave for where you think the picture was taken.
Julie B (Old Forge Ny )
I agree with this about where the photo is taken and about a peaceful even and I liked how u described why you thought it was taken in the UK.
Ilna Achi (USA)
In this picture we see a lady with her arms around a police officer's neck, while another police officer looks on with a smile. The two are dressed in different uniforms, so it looks like they may be in different divisions/have different roles within the police department. I think this picture was taken during a public event, and from how close the woman and the man are, they are intimate with each other and may be dating/married. The people in the background, like the police officers, seem to be smiling and having a generally good time, so this appears to be during a festival of some sort. Perhaps a fair.
Kate (Houston)
There are three people that this photograph is centered around: a women and two police officers. This photograph shows a woman hugging a police officer in the middle of a crowded street in a country other than the United States because of the police officers’ foreign uniforms. The women looks especially happy due to the grin on her face. The police officer on the right is turned towards the women and the other police officer and he is smiling. There are a lot of people in the background, suggesting that they are at a parade or special event. The people lingering in the back look happy, so they must be at some sort of celebration that is important to them; they are all looking in one direction, so there must be something important and interesting that they are watching.
Madison P (New York)
I think that this photo was taken during a public event of some sort. I think that something good must've happened right before this picture was taken, because the woman is hugging the police officer and everyone else is smiling as well. I think that this photo was taken in the United Kingdom because the hats that the police are wearing in the photo are the same hats that police officers in the United Kingdom do as well.
Emily Rudolph (Old Forge, NY)
I agree with what you are saying here and I like the evidence that you give that the photo was taken in the United Kingdom.
York L. (Bellevue, WA)
In this picture, there is a festival or event that is taking place in an English-speaking country. The letters on the police officers' badge indicate that. My guess would be that they are in England due the fact that one police officer has a traditional tall hat on. All the people in the background are smiling, meaning that it could be a celebration of some sort. Moreover, the woman in the green shirt is hugging one of the police officers. This makes me think that she is grateful and happy for the things that the police officers have done in the past.
Keegan Heintz (Old Forge New York)
In this photo, it seams the officer from what appears to be from england, has rescued the women, who is hugging him as a thanks. (Iv seen a artical from what this is from, but didnt read it.)
Hannah Taplin (Grand Rapids, MI)
In this photo, it seems to be a place in England, or somewhere in the United Kingdom, as the officers have the traditional garb of British officers. In the atmosphere, there seems to be a festival or a concert of some sort. The woman seems to be grateful to the officer as the other looks on.
Rachelle M (New York)
I agree with this because I as well noticed the United Kingdom or Britain police hats and also noticed the expressions on everyone's faces and everyone looking one way.
Amanda H (New York )
This picture to me seems to a policeman that helped a woman and she is hugging him but it can be more than that. The policeman is holding a map so maybe he helped her find something or someone. This may be a gathering of all different people not only Americans. The second policeman has a hat that looks a little British. There is also a man in the back that is recording himself at this big event.
MC (Old Forge, NY)
Very Good Speculation.
Sally Buck (TX)
In this photo, there is two British police officers picture at some sort of event with a civilian woman. They are clearly somewhere in England, because the hats the men are wearing are typical of the English police officers. All three main subjects and the people in the background seem to be in a good mood, implying that the event it not a serious one, perhaps a celebration. Also, the out of focus crowd shows that this event is a popular one. The women is hugging the policemen, and this strikes me as a little bit out of the norm, but makes me think maybe she is extremely happy or grateful to this man. Over all, there is a lot of unknowns about the photograph, but the details give a little insight on what may be happening.
SarahJoy (Grand Rapids)
This image seems to be in a lightweight environment, maybe a riot, but nothing violent or crazy seems to be going on. Both police men seem to be happy as well as the female. Maybe she's thanking him for some kind of efforts, or possibly flirting in some way due to the rather revealing clothing she is wearing. Overall, it seems to be evoking positive emotions.
reagan ehrensbeck (new york)
i have no idea what this picture is about
MC (Old Forge, NY)
Try Reagan, Try!
Ana (shs)
I think this image bothers other people because it is not normal for a lady to hug a policeman and a half of the street. But if they were boyfriend / girlfriend the setting changes, but he is a policeman and shouldmnot need to express his love on the street.
Henry Neumeister (SHS)
It looks like they are married. However, I don't think they are. Maybe she is thanking them, they both seem very happy. And it looks like the other cop has no idea what's going on.
Alexandria Aliasso (OF NY)
I believe that there is a rally going on about racial rights. I think this because of the people of different races smiling in the background. As for the police officer and the woman of different races, I believe she is giving him a hug in thanks for his services and help to their community for making racial rights possible.
MC (Old Forge, NY)
Great speculation!! MC
C. Hal (South Pole, Antarctica )
Yeah, great spectacles
Katelin Garner (Appalachian state university)
Upon viewing this image I can tell immediately that people are celebrating a happy moment. I notice that people are happy because the female is hugging the police officer and he too looks thrilled! I'm not exactly sure what they are celebrating, but by the looks of the officer's uniform, I can tell that this is taking place in a different country. Whether the people are celebrating a holiday or laws that have been passed, the community seems to be coming together. Overall, I got a good vibe from this photo!
Shaurya V (Washington)
There seems to be a crowd in the background that seems to be clumped together and the environment seems to hold relatively low tension as people are seen smiling and have positive body language. In the foreground of the photograph, we see that there is a woman who is putting her arms around a police officer, and while this seems highly irregular as we do not usually see this kind of behavior in everyday society, it might show some sort of equality movement.
Henry Neumeister (SHS)
I agree it does look like there is an equality movement. I agree that there is a crowd. You can tell that they are also in England somewhere.
Tenzin L (Washington)
There is a racial equal rights movement rally going on in the background, as suggested by the multiple smiling faces of people of different races. The woman in front of the image is crossing typically high borders between races as she hugs a white man in police uniform.
Alexandria Aliasso (OF NY)
I agree with you exactly. It makes sense that there is a racial rights rally going on in the background. They all seem happy and equal.
Aryo Karai (Washington)
Within this image, a crowd gathers upon a daytime street in an urban location. In the far left of the foreground, a woman with a dark complexion wearing a green shawl and blue jeans has her arms around a grinning man. The man wears a white, checkered hat and dark uniform over a white undergarment; the words, Metropolitan Police, are upon his chest. Then, on the far right, a similarly dressed man gazes at the two. In the background, some of the crowd peers upwards towards the left. Now, the scene appears to be some kind of festive gathering; this is evident in the smile of both the woman and the policeman. The hats and uniforms of the two men are distinctly European, while the crowd majority is of a variant ethnicity. This racial difference may indicate that the police were called due to racism and native fears of a large gathering of non-native peoples in the western streets. Moreover, the Metropolitan Police, of which the first policeman's uniform reveals he is a part, operates surrounding the Great London area; this cements the original hypothesis of a European setting. In addition, one gathering that fits the description of ethnic, festive, and based in London is the Notting Hill Carnival that celebrates Caribbean culture. Also, London has recently been the scene of various shootings and terrorist attacks, which have spurred nationalistic, and often racist, sentiments in natives. Thus, even festivities include police presence merely due to the ethnic influence.
Beni Class (Glendale Heights IL)
We recommend this because we recognize the amount of effort you put into analyzing the photo. Hope to hear more of your commentary.
Alexis Kill (West Bloomfield MI)
In this picture I think there is a concert going on. The Africa American girl wrapping her arms around the police must be the celebrity, and the "Metropolitan Police" are the security guards holding back fans for that show. Im not sure why he is holding a map, maybe telling one of the fans how to navigate around the area. There are lots of happy people in the background, and the other police officer on the right kind of has a creepy look on his face, but he is also wearing a red and blue wristband, and he looks like he's wearing headphones. On the other hand, the cop on the left looks like he's part of the show! he has a mic, to sing, but the other police officer doesn't! Maybe the other "police officer" is actually a dancer!!!!!! Just food for thought!
Marsus (The moon)
This may be a woman truing to avoid being arrested.
Unser Jaffry (West Bloomfield, MI)
A Middle Aged women is flirting with a policeman officer in the UK based off their uniforms. She is seducing the officer as a assembly of some sorts probably a protest is taking place based off the large amount of people in the back ground.
Vincent lafata (Michigan)
I think that it is a carnival
Wyatt Feldman (West Bloomfield High school, MI)
Okay so there’s a cop. And he’s holding a map. He must be navigating somewhere. Maybe through traffic? Or the cop is at a event judging the amount of people. The woman is simply in love with the cop and just wants a kiss. And the cop is now happy because she’s happy. But the other cop is jealous because no one is kissing him.
Beni Class (Glendale Heights IL)
We wanted to vote for this because it put a smile on our faces. Thanks for the input.
Brandon Kizy (west bloomfield)
I think this picture shows equality in a way because it appears to be a black women and a white man hugging or about to kiss each other. They seem really happy also. It appears that they are maybe in a concert because the people in the background are all looking torwards a certain way. Maybe the officer and black women have just met, who knows!?
Christian Gibson (mi)
I believe that something good happened and the cops had helped take part in it and the woman is thanking them for their work.
Dominic (West Bloomfield )
This picture looks like the African American is getting a relation ship with the guard so he can let her pass. This picture is weird. I can also see white people behind the guards and it seems like there happy.
Angel Lewis (Michigan )
I think That their at some concert or event because of the way the lady is dressed
Amelia White (MI)
Considering the uniform styles and "metropolitan police" it is taking place in the U.K. The event would most likely be a parade or something like that.
Kamari Williams (West Bloomfield)
I think that in this picture they show a group of people at some type of event such as a parade and that’s her husband because they look like they’re about to kiss
Chris Harris (West Bloomfield )
This seems to be some sort of celebration or parade of something as everyone seems happy around. Even the cops are happy which shows that it is not some sort of protest but a sign of celebration.
Lara Mathias (West Bloomfield High School)
I think that the atmosphere is a positive one because everyone is smiling including the kid in the background. The picture shows a modern day time because there is a white police man with an African American women and they look to be smiling. This is something that would not be the case back in the day.
Jala Buckley (Bloomfield Hills)
My prediction is that its a concert, or an event. Someone is in town/something is going on that there are many people which there has to be security because there's so many people. The lady that is hugging the police is probably dancing with him, and everyone is having fun, instead of the police being so strict and not having fun.
Brandon s. (Michigan)
I see a lot of happy people, and some signs in the top left, kinda looks like a party, or carnival type of public gathering. The woman in the picture is one other the carnival dancers trying to upset the police, but is failing.
Danial Ahmad (Michigan)
This police officer seems to be in a relationship with the other women in this picture. This seems to be somewhere in Europe, I think that because the police men don't seem to have any weapons other than that scary map. The man at the right seems happy but is probably jealous.
parker (michigan)
From what i can tell this is a British police officer who looks like he is on guard. This possible could be a parade or celebration. It could be manchester day or the peace parade.
Sterling M (Michigan)
I believe this is a concert, the police are there to keep the crowd and check. It becomes interactive as you can see a lady grabbing on the police man. Everyone in this picture seems to be happy which makes it look a concert rather than a protest, or a parade.
Alexander Rowe (Michigan)
It looks like those are some policemen from somewhere in London because of their hats. It seems like they are hugging after coming to some resolution. He also could have been trying to find the place or go somewhere else because he has a a map.
Natalie Douglas (Michigan)
By everyone's smiling faces, I think that there is a festival going on. Everyone looks too happy to be having a protest. Even the police look happy. It might be that the woman and the man are dating and his buddy is glad of it.
Tristan kizer (Michigan)
In this picture there’s is a woman that is thanking a police officer for protecting the community. The officer seems happy. I think This because she is hugging him And they are both smiling.
Keelin (West Bloomfield high school)
This is a carnival or festival that has protection by the police where she may be like thanking him for his efforts cause like there's no violence happening.
Lindsey Hazelton (Michigan)
This picture could be from a concert, or event that causes the community to get together and police force to be present. The police officer and woman could be old friends, or it may just be a friendly meeting of two people in a joyful time. The people in the back also seem to be smiling, so this is definitely a time where everyone is happy. A concert is a good guess for this one!
Ambrianna Beatty (West Bloomfield High School)
From what I can see with the large amount of police officers in one place this maybe a protest or even a parade or carnival. The carnival maybe a social convention to bring the people of the community together with their police officers.
Sydney Carroll (Michigan)
I think that this is taking place at some kind of festival. This is because of the crowd in the background and how they are smiling and holding cameras. This is also because of how the woman is dressed like she'll be outside all day and is wearing bright colors. It would also make since if it was a festival because of the police present. I think the woman and the police officer are friends who ran into each other. They both are smiling like they are happy to see each other and she is moving to give him a hug.
isaac fertig (west bloomfield)
I believe that this picture just shows a regular meeting between british police and civilians and they're all happy to see each other because the police help them feel safe and the civilians share their love so the police don't feel lonely and lonely police= depressed police and depressed police= bad police and bad police are not good.
Holly D (west bloomfield)
I think maybe a celebration or a parade is taking place. The people have lot's of smiles on their faces. That women is also really happy with the cop because he could have done something for all these people. The cop is also holding a mad -so that could be the location he is in and he could help direct people. in the right direction.
Jonathan Ammori (Michigan)
I think that this officer just proposed to this lady because of the way that they are on each other. Also I know that nothing bad is happening in this picture because the other office seems happy too. It seems like they are talking to each other and are about to kiss.
Hayden Killgrove (Michigan)
I think there is some public announcement or event that is happening in this picture. I think this because there are a lot of people in the background all looking in the same direction. That means that they are all watching the same thing. Also, there are police officers which most likely means they are monitoring this event. The police officer is also holding a map most likely to help people who are lost. I think this is a happy event of some kind because everyone is smiling. Also, the woman in the picture looks very happy as well and it is most likely not a serious event because if it was the police officers would be more strict.
brook crews (west bloomfield)
I think some sort of festival is going on because there are a lot of people that are attending. Also, the way people are dressed gives the vibe that it's a fun event. Everyone is smiling and having a good time.
matt ruiz (WBHS)
I believe that the picture is at a concert or festival and the lady is trying to get the male cop to loosen up and have fun.The man Is wearing a orange and white bracelet which could be used to show you got into the concert.THe lady is dressed real vibrant and concert like.
Jared (US)
In this picture, a woman is hugging an English police officer at an important celebration or parade. The policeman’s attire and the symbol on his hat indicate that this event is taking place in England. Everyone in the picture seems happy due to the smiles on their faces. The woman on the left looks particularly happy, maybe because she is very excited about what this parade or celebration has to offer. Since everyone is turned the same way, someone definitely has the crowd’s attention and is most likely presenting something important. The fact that a person in the background has a camera also suggests that something important is going on. Based on the current events of England, this parade or celebration could be about England’s desire to leave the EU, more commonly referred to as Brexit.
Maia (Kirkland, WA)
I think this is from a protest in London or some place in England, due to the emblem on the hat of the police officer to the right. Usually during protests, police are present to monitor and make sure nothing terrible goes wrong; the guy on the left is also carrying a map which may indicate that he needs to gather the people in a specific location/out of the streets so no one is hurt. This seems to be a rather peaceful protest, as the police officers seem to be in a good mood and the lady is also wearing a pleasant expression, along with some of the people in the background.
Sophia W (Redmond, WA)
In this picture there is a crowd of people in the background of a busy street, so maybe there was a special event that had occurred in the area. The picture then focuses on the woman and the two police officers. Both the woman and the police officer look happy and excited, as if they had just heard some good news. The people in the background are not looking at the embracing couple, so the action is probably just a friendly gesture. The only person that is looking at the two people is the police officer who is standing next to his coworker with a smile. Overall, the event that took place must have been important (and well known) to have police officers supervising the area and must have been a very joyous occasion.
Naim (Kirkland, WA)
I think this image is a party or festival of some sort. I believe this because the woman and the two police officers look quite happy this would remove all predictions that it is something negative. There is a lot of people and the person blurred in between the police officer and the female is also smiling so it has to be a festival. The police officers are also from England because of the hats. It also seems much like a city near a park as told from the buildings and the tree in the background. Therefore i can conclude that this is most likely a festival in Europe that i do not know about at this time.
Milena Z. (Kirkland, WA)
It is a very interesting picture that focuses on three people in the foreground: two police officers, and a woman. As we can see the officer on the right is wearing a London police hat, from this observation we can tell that the location of the picture is London. On the left we can see a woman in an outfit that we cannot ignore because of its bright colors and low-rise jeans with a wide belt… People in the background are wearing short-sleeve shirts, which is a sign of a summer or a late spring. As well as this, our eyes cannot not notice a big, blurry crowd behind the trio. The woman wrapped her hands around the officer’s neck and smiling at him and she receives a smile from the officer. Looks like she will not end up in jail today, because of her precious smile the officer’s heart is melted. But we cannot forget about the officer in a London police hat, who has a smile on his face, but in his eyes, we can see a spark of jealousy. From my observation, I can assume that this is a festival, or a protest in London. Based on all the details that I listed above: bright clothes, happy people, police officers, and a crowd of people. It is hard to tell what kind of an even this is, because of limited details.
Tyler Doan (The Kinkaid School, TX)
In this photo, I think that this is showing a woman at either a protest or a rally, and she is showing the police officers some compassion, in that she is embracing them. There are a lot of people in the background, further indicating some sort of rally, and the woman is the only one brave and kind enough to find some compassion for the police who were there to keep the situation under control. The looks on the woman's and the police's face show that they are obviously not fighting or arguing and that they are taking a break from whatever protest they are attending to share a good laugh.
xtaforster (Houston, TX)
I appreciate your indicating the woman's smile and her embracing the policeman as a sign of her compassion. Clearly they are both feeling positive about their connection. I'm wondering if you looked again at the other faces if the idea of a "protest" makes sense. Definitely your point about it being a rally (an event where people come together) makes a lot of sense, but it seems a little too relaxed for a "protest." What do you think?
Lahari N (Washington)
Looking at this picture, I can tell that there are three police officers in a large crowd which is focused on something happening to the left. The man on the right and the man in the middle behind the one who is smiling widely have the same hat with a crown on it which makes me believe that this is in England. I am almost 100% certain that this isn't protest as the air in the picture seems pretty happy, especially with the number of people who are smiling. With the recent engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, I think this could have been an event where they stepped out for a bit to meet the citizens of England. I've noticed such an event happen just recently in the news too. The woman in the neon colored top must be trying to get a picture with them or she must be lost, and as the officer helped her, she must have wanted to show her appreciation by hugging him.
Annie D (USA)
I think that some sort of celebration or parade is taking place in this photo. Based on the placement of the buildings in the background, it looks as if the crowd is concentrated at least partially in the streets. The crowd appears happy, and multiple smiling individuals can be observed in the background, strongly indicating a celebratory event, rather than a protest or rally. The two men in the foreground are policemen, as evidenced by their black and white uniforms, walkie-talkies, and badges that distinctly read “POLICE”. One of the policemen is holding a map in his left hand, which indicates that the policemen are there to keep the event safe, and provide directions or other information to participants. The woman in the foreground with her arms over the first policeman’s shoulders may be hugging him in thanks for supporting whatever festival or celebration is taking place. The women's brightly colored shirt is could signify involvement of some sort in the event.
Vedantha V (Redmond WA)
I think this is an image of a parade. We can decipher this from a few main clues. First, the majority of the people in the crowd have a smile on their face. This tells us the occasion must be happy. Secondly, there are people wearing police vests on site. This is common in large gatherings and planned events like parades. The majority of the people seem to be looking in one direction, suggesting a spectacle of some sort, perhaps a parade? This makes sense in terms of current events, as there was a british royal marriage very recently. One aspect of the marriage, a parade may have drawn in the crowds. The only issue with my hypothesis is the woman in the foreground with her arms around an officer. I have never seen this with an officer on duty, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to impersonate one.
Anna W (Kirkland)
I believe that this is a picture of a concert or event where the community gets together. At first I though that it showed a protest, but in the background you can see lots of smiling faces and in the background on the right you can see a woman holding a camera, as if to document something. On the man on the right, who I am guessing is a policeman based on the uniform, he has a badge that says Metropolitan Police, so it can be inferred that this most likely takes place in London (also shown with the crown on the crest of the uniform). The main action of the picture shows a woman wrapping her arms around the officer, looking to be either the start of a hug or a dance. This action further goes to show the happy mood of the picture. I think the police are in the picture and in uniform because they are there to protect, not to attack, an inference supported by the joyful mood of the rest of the photo.
Nina G (Redmond, WA)
I think that this is an image of an protest or community get together, organized by the city. There are two police officers in the main focused of the image, I believe they are police officers due to the uniform and setting of the image. The setting of the image has buildings and trees in the background alone with a crowd of people, which are visible on the bottom half of the image. There are also other officers in the background which are notable based on the hats the officers are wearing. There is an women in a bright yellow shirt, based on the colors from the people in the background the women may be an important part of this protest or festival. Her arms are wrapped around the officer, in a playful manner, possibly trying to get the officer to dance with her. There seems to be a lot of officers and security in this image, with the 4 officers that are visible, this event may be taken place is an area with is not typically safe or might have a lot of violent outbreaks. Based on the uniform of the officers it seems to be in England, the type of hats and emblems. This event appears to be taking place in the street, where people seem to be smiling and having a good time.
Isha N (Sammamish, Washington)
In this picture I see a passionate crowd in the background and three police officers. When I look at what the police officers are wearing, I can deduce that they are somewhere in Europe. The background seems very happy and joyful and so do the police officers. I think that from the general mood of the picture, this seems to be some sort of a carnival or passionate protest.
Alvin L (Redmond, WA)
I believe that this picture is of a rally or a movements of some kind. There are police officers in the foreground based on the uniformed they are wearing, the scene takes place outside on what is probably a road, with buildings to the left and trees to the right, along with the huge crowd of people that are visible throughout the whole photo. Based on the fact that there are a lot of people and police are some how involved to manage this gathering, this is either a rally of some sort of movement. We can also see that there are 4 police officers, all officers are wearing a white dress shirt with a black vest, the 2 officers in the foreground have walkie talkies and some type of watch on their wrist, there is a women that appears to be putting her arms around the neck of 1 of the officers in the foreground in a hugging type way, the black police hat that some of the officers are wearing has a silver crest on it with a small crown resting on the crest.
Madison (Grand Rapids)
I see three policemen who look like they are from a different country. A woman with a bright, scandalous shirt is smiling and hugging one of the officers. That officer is enjoying himself and looking at the woman with a smile. An officer behind that officer is looking back at the two and smiling. The emphasis is on the woman who is embracing the officer with the white hat. It looks like there is some happy event going on with a lot of people. I assume it is a light-hearted event because everyone is smiling. No evidence of violence.
Mathias F (WA)
I believe that a rally or parade is happening because of the crowd in the background of the photo. They appear to be looking towards the same direction, suggesting that there could be a speaker or some attraction that they are looking at. I believe it is a parade or rally rather than a protest because the people in the crowd are mostly happy, not angry or upset. I also noticed the Metropolitan police patch on the officers vest which suggests that this parade takes place in London, England. This can also be deduced from the Britsih police helmets on the the police officers. Lastly, I believe that the woman pictured on the left is embracing the officer as a showing of thanks. My guess is that he was helping her with directions since a map can be pictured in his left hand.
Catherine Scott (Texas)
In this picture, you can see two police officers and a woman standing in the middle of a city street smiling. I think the woman is part of a festival or march for something because of her attire. She is wearing a bright yellow shirt with writing on it similar to what people do when they are at a festival are marching supporting something specific. I think the police officer on the right is smiling because he sees that his coworker is being hugged by a middle-aged women graciously. I do not think that there is any relationship between the police officer and the woman because the police has a wedding ring on, but I could be wrong.
Van M (Kirkland, WA)
I would have to guess that this woman is part of a protest of some sort occurring in England (likely London, as indicated by the "Metropolitan Police" patch, as well as the constables hat on the man on the left), and that these officers are performing crowd control. This crowd could be in response to Trump's requests to Theresa May regarding protests in England, a football match somewhere in London, or something surrounding the royal family (as indicated by the people's joyful expressions). I would also like to note that the officer on the left looks very similar to Nick Frost from Hot Fuzz, which is endlessly hilarious to me.
Arnav Sachati (Redmond)
In this picture we can see that there is are three police officers. Based on there apparel we can assume that this picture was taken in Europe. Here we can see that everyone appears to be happy giving us the impression that they are enjoying themselves. Based on the gathering of people we can imagine that they are meeting for a parade, protest meeting, or event. For these reasons, i believe that there is some event going on causing for a police presence and such joyfulness.
Ian S (Redmond)
This picture shows a festival taking place in the United Kingdom. I am led to believe this due to several factors. First, there are many people gathered outdoors in the street in this picture. This could be for a number of reasons, including protesting, commuting, and having a good time. However, the people seem to be in good cheer, as both the three people in focus as well as the crowd visible in the back are smiling. They lack the signs and order of organized protesters, and, judging from the varied body positions, do not seem to be traveling. The badge on the right man's hat matches that of the Metropolitan Police, which also matches the words on the left man's vest. This brings me to the conclusion that these men are police officers of the Metropolitan Police Force in England. However, this festival may be either rowdy or be expected to experience violence, as the police officers would not be necessary if this was the case.
Varshan Muhunthan (Redmond)
In this photo, I believe that there is some rally or protest going on. I support this claim with the reasoning that there are a lot of people huddled together and very close, and also because the presence of the police appear to support that as well. I also believe this is in the England, because the officer uniforms are very similar to the ones in England. I finally believe that the lady is thanking the officer for his help by giving him a hug. She also could be trying to get the officer to join in the protest. Other things that I can see are the map in the officer's hand, as well as the overall friendliness of the crowd.
Brandon Wui (STEM)
Looking at the picture, it seems that there are a lot of people in the area. The background holds many people looking here and there. One can assume some sort of parade or gathering due to the large crowd. A woman is hugging a man with a police vest on. My guess is that she is thanking him for something.
Frederick (Washington State)
In the picture it seems that there are multiple police officers and a lot of people standing around what seems to be a city street, the focus being a police officer and a lady together. This may be taking place in England because of the type of hats the other officers are wearing and the crown symbol on them. It seems like the two aren't related as on the lady's ring, it is a gold ring with a gray object attached to it where as the officer has what seems to be a blank gold ring, possibly showing that he is engaged to someone. As this is not likely a relationship, the officer could be helping the person around as he have a map in his hands and she could be thanking him.
York L. (Bellevue, WA)
This picture is taken in an English-speaking country because we can see the letter on the police officer's black jackets. The three police officers have white shirts and black jackets. There is also a woman in a green shirt who is putting her hands around one of the police officers' neck. Moreover, all the people in this picture are smiling including the woman and the police officer who is being hugged.
Rishika V (Sammamish)
I think this is just a picture of a parade in UK. The crown emblem and style of the hats lead me to believe the officers are from the UK and typically police officers are not dispatched outside their country which leads me to the inference that this picture is in the UK. I specifically believe it is a parade due to the jovial nature, as indicated by their smiles, of all the people shown in the picture. Also the sheer mass of people points towards a parade as well. Due to the way everyone seems to be looking in one way you could assume this is an unveiling, but the officer being hugged holds a map and I feel like he would not need to have it out for an unveiling as there is nowhere to direct people, but in a parade you would need a map. The three officers seem to be there for crowd control and to help people. I’m assuming the lady is hugging the officer because he just helped her in regards to the parade. I don't know of any celebratory parades that would be going on in UK right now, but I'm inclined to believe it is a celebratory one rather that a protest one even though I don't know exactly what its for because of how smiley everyone is.
Kevin Y (Washington)
I think this photo is of a gathering of sorts and not a protest somewhere in England. The reason I think it is a gathering rather than a protest is that the lady on the left is very friendly to the police officers. Assuming that the reaction of English officers to protesters is the same as American officers, the reaction would have been more hostile or cautioned than the emotions presented. There is also a lack of signs and too many smiles to be any sort of protest. The reason I think I t is a gathering in the first place is primarily because there is an abnormally large amount of people in the middle of what seems to be a street with an abnormal amount of police officers in one place. Given all these observations I personally think there is a moderate chance that this interpretation of the photo is correct.
Allison (Palmdale )
In this picture there is a lady hugging a police officer. They both seem to be very happy and the officer behind them does too. I believe they are in a march. I say this because you can see behind them, there’s alot of people and they all also seem to be happy. What else I can say about it is that this March is nonviolent, the officer aren’t mad and they aren’t arresting people. The people in the march also seem to be happy and not destructive.
Cassidy Osegueda (palmdale)
It looks like an event is occuring because there is a lot of people in the picture. It also looks as if a lady is being flirty with a cop or security. It looks like they are in a different country or state because the cops attire is very different from america.
Megan (U.S.)
In this image, one can assume that there is a public gathering nearby since there are many people in the background. In fact, one person has a camera out and is taking a video. The woman on the left who is wrapping her arms around the police officer is most likely thanking him for his services. He looks very happy since a smile is shown on his face and he is laughing. It is probably a happy time since most people are smiling in the back and in the front. This image might have taken place in England, since the outfits that the officers are wearing are not common United States wear. The uniform says “Metropolitan Police” which is common in Britain. The hat that the man all the way on the right is wearing is commonly worn in Great Britain. The man all the way on the right looks jealous since he has an strange smirk on face-- either he wants to be that man who is talking to the woman or he wants him to stop celebrating and get back to business.
carlos Patino (m)
in this picture i see a African American lady hugging a white police officer in some short of parade. While the lady was hugging the officer another officer was looking at them while smiling. I believe this is taken place in England because of what the officers are wearing.
Nitisha G. (Sammamish)
I infer that this is a picture of some type of parade or carnival in London. The crowd, police and woman seem to be having a nice time on the warm day. The women and officers also look like they are enjoying themselves as one gets a hug from the woman and the other smirks at them. I also inferred that this was in London because the police officer's uniforms look like they are European and they say "Metropolitan Police." They seem to be surrounded by a large crowd of people in an area with many buildings, as seen in the background, and they all look like they are smiling. This supports my claim that they are in a parade or carnival.
Sebastian Horstmann (Washington)
I would say that this picture is of some sort of parade in England. The hats and crests of the police officers give away the country, and the amount of people and the smiles on all of their faces shows that this is not a protest, but more of a celebration. Also, the buildings in the background show a more urban setting, supported by the fact that the police officers badges read "Metropolitan Police". All of these clues lead me to believe what was happening in this picture.
Denis Chelan (Redmond)
It seems there is a festival or parade of sorts because there is a large crowd with happy dispositions which implies a happy event. There also seem to be police officers which is common with these large events the the lack of force or violence implies this is a parade/festival instead of a riot or protest. I can tell this is from europe because of the police uniforms. There are many soccer games in that region so I'm going to guess that this is a post match celebration.
Tyler Martire (Texas)
In this picture, there are three people in the center frame: 2 police officers and a woman. The woman has her arms around the police officer on the left, and they are staring at each other. The three people are smiling and the woman does not seem to be a threat. I think that this photo was taken at an event celebrating the grand opening of something or a national ceremony. The people in the back appear to be staring at a similar object or event. There is a person holding a camera on the right, so it may be a rare occasion or a memorable moment. The event must be going on in a non-US country because the police officers are wearing uniforms from a different country. They do not appear to have a weapon on them, only handcuffs. The two officers may be of different rank because one is wearing a larger hat with a symbol on it. The man is holding a map of streets, so this event must be going on in the streets.
Rob M. (Redmond, Wa)
Based on the police tag on the person in the middle of the photo, his hat, and the uniform he,the person behind him and the person in the middle-background indicates that they are apart of the police and the two police officers that aren't being hugged have a helmet like hat, which seems to indicate that this photo is in England. The officer that is being hugged looks like he knows the lady that is hugging him, which indicates that they are friends or family, but they seem to either be partners or haven't seen each others in a long time. There is a crowd of people behind the officers, a couple buildings behind them and on the left side of the photo and some more buildings on the right behind a tree like plant. The crowd and officers in this street seems to indicate that there is some sort of event going on in the city.
Elisa Unoki (Washington)
I think that there is a festival/parade occurring in London where a woman is obviously having a fabulous time flirting with one of the three officers. The crowd in the background have smiles plastered on their faces, indicating that this event is happy and the police look relaxed and happy also. The three policemen all seem to be wearing uniforms, like their hats, that aren’t from the US and seem to be from the UK. On their vests, you can see the words “Metropolitan Police”, which means they’re probably somewhere in London. I think the woman was talking to the officer who I think is the leader/captain because of his different hat and prominent earpiece. You can see the policeman with the woman is holding a map, so I think he was going to help her with directions until she started flirting with him. And behind his fellow officer next to him gives him an approving smirk.
Ms. Curie Curiosity (DC)
The New York Times question “What’s Going on in this Picture?” is very confusing. The main focus is a woman hugging a police officer. I assume the picture took place in England because the police officer’s hats were very tall. I think it took place in England because in pictures that I’ve seen of the Birmingham Palace in London, England the security guards wore those hats. The police officer on the left is receiving a hug from a happy woman who is not appropriately dressed if she went to a middle school. The police officer is happy to receive the hug. I think those two people could have been relatives and they are participating in a friendly march.
amy (palmdale)
In this picture, I believe that there's a festival of some sort in England, I say that because of the way the background is, everyone is full of happiness. The lady in the picture is trying to get the officer to have a good time, which it looks like they are by joining the crowd.
Brandon (Palmdale)
It seems as though the photo is taking place in a sort of protest or festival, obviously in England (UK) due to the police officers uniform. And the people, one person of color and the other two white officers, that are highlighted in the photo seem to be cooperating peacefully, quite the sharp contrast when compared to what's happening in the United States of America.
kamaya (palmdale Ca)
looks like the picture is taking place in England based on the policemen's uniform. They're could be a parade or town celebration for something because everyone seems to be gathered around and happy. So happy that a lady may be hugging a complete stranger that happens to be a policeman. She most likely just wants to share her happiness and joy with someone by hugging them.
Demetrius Freeman (Palmdale)
In this picture there is two police men and a woman with her arms around the police man. The all smile to be in a good mood because they all have smiles on their face. There seems to be like a parade going on or some type of event because there seems to be a lot of people and they're all having a good time with each other. I also see that the cop has a map in his hands like he's looking for a certain place to go too.
brittany (palmdale )
It looks like a festival of some sort and the lady is hugging the officer. They both seem happy also the people around them.
Ericka Johnson (william j pete knight high school)
I feel as if this lady is trying to persuade the officer to come and dance with her but he does not want to. This lady seems like she just wants to have fun. They are most likely at a carnival but he prolly was being tight and sh wanted to loosen him up. But what she has to realize he is working. His partner is smiling cause hes prolly telling him to just telling him dance with her once its oky. This lady seems like she just wants to have a good day and wants everyone to have a good day with right along with her.
natalia (california)
I believe the lady is trying to persuade the officer to dance with her. I believe this is occurring at a festival in London because in the back there are bright colors and the mans hat is different than American ones. All the carnival goers seem to be having a great time.
Amya (palmdale)
1. In this picture a women is giving this engalnd fficer a hug. I think he proposed to her or that he did something nice for her nad she gave him a hug to probably say thank you. I think that she wants to dance with him to. There is some type of parade or something. 2. What makes me say this is that she is smiling and he is is smiling to and she is huging him. There is a crowd full of people laugphing and taking pictures. 3. There is a lot of people, there is a flag in the background and more england police officer.
Brittany (California)
It looks like the picture is taking place in England based on the policemen's uniform. They're could be a parade or town celebration for something because everyone seems to be gathered around and happy. So happy that a lady may be hugging a complete stranger that happens to be a policeman. She most likely just wants to share her happiness and joy with someone by hugging them.
Ms. Giddings Class (Northport, Maine)
Our class thinks that this picture might be a picture of a parade, probably in England. We thought it was in England because if you look at the police man's hat on the right, there is a crown on it. And crowns are most common in England. We thought the two people might be reuniting, because they are all smiles and giving hugs. Also, it is fairly crowded, and all the people are looking to the left up corner.
Dorian (Hinkley High School)
There is a peaceful gathering of people the police are there to ensure safety. You can see smiles on the faces. A woman with her arms around the one officer knows him and he knows her. Training procedures would dictate that he not let anyone he did not know get that close because of potential issues. But everything works out and she and he look like they are going to kiss.
Sandra (Sleepy Hollow)
The place in this picture is most likely in England. There seems to be a celebration that involves a multitude of people gathered in one street. Since there are a multitude of people, security needs to be present. A lady looks very joyous, even o the point where she wants to hug the police officer. Well we can not infer the relationship between the police officer, but if they are hugging there must be some kind of friendship of relationship.
Jen (New York)
it looks like there is a parade or some sort of town event to bring the people together and everyone looks happy. It also looks like the woman in the photo is going to hug the officer maybe because of something he did for her, the people, or his service. This joyous event seems to take place in England due to their uniforms.
Naomi Fer (Sleepy Hollow,NY)
There's a woman putting her arms around a policeman. She's wearing a yellow shirt. Everybody's smiling. I wonder why they're smiling and why he has a checkered hat. I guess that they like each other because of the way that they're looking at each other. The guy on the right looks like he's having a fun time. They all look like they're enjoying themselves.
Chaska (NY)
1: This picture shows that there is a woman who is on a police man and they are smiling with their goggle eyes. The other police man is looking at her with his eyes. I think their protecting something or someone, or its a strike.
Remi (Tarrytown)
This picture looks as though it was taken in England because of the types of hats the police officers are wearing. The lady seems to be extremely friendly with the officer, maybe he did something to help her. They may be at a rally or a peaceful protest of some kind because people seemed to be gathered up but not angry, and the fact that the police are present shows something that might need protection is happening. It may be taking place in some kind of a park because of the map the police man in holding, it looks like the kind they give out in large parks.
mike (new york)
there is a rally or parade going on and everyone seems very happy. the police officers are there to make sure that everything is under control and that everyone is safe
Isdenil (New York)
Semms to take place in England because of the type of hats they are wearing. The woman seems excited and hugs the officer, the other officer looks back and seems interested by the situation is happening. It's either a festival or a protest because I see people serious and smiling as well
Isaac (KHS)
The pictures seems to set place in England. The lady in the picture seems to be happy ,she is going to hug the officer he must've done something nice. This also seems to be some sort of march or rally in the streets of England
PM Class (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Looks like it takes place in England. The woman looks like she is trying to make out with the man with the map. It looks like a Mardi Gras party. The woman must like the man. He doesn't seem interested.
Beni Class (Glendale Heights IL)
It looks like this is taking place in England or a former British colony because the police hats and the helmets look British and it looks like the word police on the officer getting hugged, suggesting English language. Everyone looks happy so it seems like a peaceful parade or rally.
Richard Gutierrez (Knight High School)
It looks like they are at some sort of event like a parade or rally. And the security is there to insure the safety of people at the event. She seems older than him by a good amount of years which is why I don't think they are a couple. But she looks to be really friendly to him so she might have a crush on him.
Marley (H-TOWN)
In this image, the first thing I recognize is the police officers, whose uniforms indicate this picture takes place somewhere in England. Everyone in this image looks happy. The police are most likely on duty at a large event, as there are many people filling the vicinity. The lady in the photo is probably having fun, and giving the police officer a hug in a moment of happiness, or showing her appreciation for their work. The police officer is holding a map, which also indicates this is a large event, as they are probably assisting people in finding their way either to or from the event. I believe someone in the background is even ‘Vlogging’ or video blogging, as there is someone who is holding a camera faced towards themself, and vlogging is common at fun events such as concerts and music festivals.
Andrew (USA)
The police officers' uniforms show that this picture was taken somewhere in Britain/England. Everyone in the picture seems to be happy, even in the background people are smiling. These police officers are probably just on guard at some large event to make sure nothing bad happens, I don't think anything bad has happened yet. The woman is probably just acting really friendly to the police officer in the happiness of the moment.
Ms. Nimeh's Class (Penfield,NY)
We infer that this is a concert or happy occasion in England. The police are smiling the woman is happy the crowd is looking in the same direction. We think the police are using the map to help the crowd get around and we think the woman is playfully thanking them for their protection.
DenisPombriant (Boston)
This looks British by the hats on three the police. Let's say London. Some kind of happy summer event in the street to the left of the viewer or behind the woman. Note the smiles. Everyone is in a good mood. I suspect the police are just mingling in the crowd to observe and report any activity that could break the peaceful mood. Patrolling. Note the map the streets are not in a grid indicating an old city and the police are trying to stay in their zone of responsibility. Note the three cops have their backs to each other suggesting they occupy a strategic central spot. The woman might be of Caribbean origin, Jamaican origin? Mixed racial scene. Perhaps the woman is just playing up to the police coquettishly in the spirit of the moment. Perhaps the cop in the white hat said something like move along and she's being playful.
Elisa Unoki (Washington)
I think that this picture is depicting a festival/parade occurring in London where a woman is obviously having a fabulous time flirting with one of the three officers. The crowd in the background have smiles plastered on their faces, indicating that this event is happy and the police look relaxed and happy also. The three policemen all seem to be wearing uniforms that aren’t from the US, like their very unique hats, and seem to be from the UK. On their vests, you can see “Metropolitan Police” which means they’re somewhere in London. The policeman with the woman is a captain, because of his different hat and the prominent ear piece in his ear. He is also holding a map, so I think he was going to help her with directions until she started flirting with him. And his fellow officer next to him gives him an approving smirk.
CZar (USA)
In this picture we see 2 british police officers doing their job at an event. And clearly they are doing a good job because there is a female congratulating them and the first officer is happy about his good job. The other officer is also peeping the congratulations and is happy to know that he is also doing a good job. The event is probably for a good cause because people in the back are smiling aswell.
Martha Sermier (NY)
A woman from Chicago has just made a London Bobby part of the Chicago Police Force! Perhaps she is a police officer from Chicago and had her own cap with her.
Theo D (Redmond WA)
This picture is probably in England because of the policemen's uniforms. You can see that on the right cop's hat, there is an emblem that has the top part cut off and replaced by a crown; suggesting that there is some kind of royalty in this country. The type of hat is also found in England with the little silver pointy top and bobble like hat. The woman looks happy and is probably thanking the cop for helping her find a place since he has a map out. On top of the woman's head you can see the 4th cop with a blurry emblem on his hat. Looking at how the people are clothed, this is in the summer and at some gathering/festival.
Bob Tonnor (Australia)
The woman in the picture is actually a male Striped Zephoid Crawler from the planet Ruupeeop, located in the small Megalonic Cloud, His name is Clive and he has come to earth to hide from his life partner, Zoondripod, who, in line with Zephoid culture, eats her male partner at the age of 1 galactic year and wears the hollowed out skin as a form of 'foot' wear for social occasions. In this picture, Clive is actually smelling the unassuming police officer to determine if he will taste good with sardines and toast.
Emely Pineda (California)
It seems that a lady is trying to seduce/or distract a police officer on duty while she is inhiberaited. I say this because she looks very liberated and not scared of authority. I also see in the backgrounds that this might be in some big event or parade.
Ferdinand (San Diego, CA)
Lost and Found. Integration is beautiful. A map to kindness to one another.
Mark Johnson (Bay Area)
Happy crowd. Police appear to be British empire--but the un-embraced officer has a sidearm--and this is unusual in England. Woman appears to be happy and mixed race -- or Caribbean --or Polynesian--or South Asia. The shield on the second officers helmet may say Auckland, which would put the event in the largest city in New Zealand. If the patch on the first officer's vest says "Metropolitan", and the different patch on the second officer's vest perhaps marking him as one of the few who have the training to carry a firearm or a Taser, then London could be the city of this event. The clothing and racial mix of the crowd is more London than Auckland. First officer is wearing a headset and a cap--likely is a commander. The short sleeves on the officers and clothing on the woman suggest a summer event. Crowd is mostly watching something going on to the left and seem to be enjoying themselves. Perhaps a parade or local celebration? Did not bother to check to see if the map in the first officer's hand is a map of Auckland or a city in England (London). A forensic search could likely find the location shown in the map. Do the red lines on the map indicate the area of the festival for the police (or parade route), or is it a map from the woman? Did the woman welcome him to the event as one of the organizers, or just like the answer she got? Ask directions? No idea.
Dino Lucarelli (Cincinnati OH)
She is thanking him for providing directions (map in his hand). He is fine with the extra attention and is going with it. His associate police officer is a bit surprised by her assertiveness as he looks back with a wry smile/smirk. She is obviously more interested in this helpful officer than what is going on with the crowd, as her back is turned away from what the rest of the crowd seems to be looking at.
PB (Northern UT)
What? Given how the people are dressed, it is a warm day, and the people in this photo are smiling and look happy. The attractive black woman hugging the policeman, the policeman being hugged, and the Bobby catching a glimpse of the friendly embrace all appear pleased and delighted by this warm-hearted encounter. Where? This photo is not taken in the United States, because the black woman and the 2 policemen appear happy to see each other and to be warm and friendly with each other. Based on the police uniforms, the photo appears to be taken in the UK or one of the Commonwealth countries. What else? I noticed most of the crowd in the background is not looking at the woman and the policemen but is focused on some event behind the woman--perhaps a summer concert or festival. I don't know if the policeman with a map in his hand helped the woman and she is grateful, maybe she and he are good friends, or he is simply carrying the map to help people in the crowd who need directions. This photo demonstrates "Officer Friendly community policing" as an alternative to "crowd control, adversarial policing," where the police and the crowd expect the worse from each other, and to no surprise, often get it. A good photo to show at police training academies and to post on precinct bulletin boards.
Madison (Grand Rapids)
I didn't think of those situations! I agree, the woman could've known the officer, or he could've helped her out with something!
MRod (Corvallis, OR)
The woman is the British police officer's wife. She ran into him unexpectedly at some event and was happy to see him.
PAN (NC)
He just proposed and she said Yes!
Ryan k. (Houston, Texas)
This woman looks to be of Caribbean origin and she appears to be at a fair in London. She appears to have asked the policeman for something, probably directions because he is holding a map in his hand. She is quite happy and is giving him a hug as thanks. Or maybe the woman wants the police officer to dance with her because the officer is quite amused about the whole thing.
Joel Renish (Kirkland, WA)
In this picture, it looks like there is some festival happening, and the image focuses on three main people in the image. They all seem to be happy, and the people on the right look like Metropolitan Police, according to the badge on their vest. Also, the woman on the left is hugging one of the officers, so they must know each other, and the other officer seems to be smirking at them. Also, this is clearly a hot summer day because of the rolled up sleeves on the officers and the clothing of the woman. The man in the middle is also holding a map, so they might also be simply giving directions to the woman, because she might be a tourist. The background is blurry, but you can see the sky and some buildings behind them, so they must be out on the street somewhere, and the police is probably supervising what goes down.
Eva R (Redmond, WA)
In this picture, there is a woman hugging the police officer and she could be dancing. There is another police officer who is smirking from the side as well. In the background, there is a sea of people who seem to be smiling and laughing and it looks like this picture was taken in a public place as we can see a blur of signs. Since a lot of people take place in this picture, it could indicate that this could be an event or some sort of festival. I also notice that the police has the "metropolitan police" on his chest and that could probably indicate that this picture could probably take place in London or somewhere foreign.
Anya (Houston)
Through the details in this picture, viewers can infer that there is a large event such as a parade or festival because of the large amounts of people captured in the background. The location seems to be a city because of the buildings, which are blurred in the left corner of the photograph. Additionally, it is most likely a warm day because the women in the photo is wearing a tanktop and the men have their sleeves rolled up. One can conclude that two of the three main subjects in the photo are police officers because of their uniforms which include heavy vests, walkie talkies, hats, and badge which seems to be plastered with the word, “Police.” The woman wearing the neon green top is most likely a friend or spouse of the police officer on the left because she goes in for a hug with a large, affectionate smile on her face. The wrist watches, walkie talkies, and digital camera found in the picture tell the viewers that the time period is modern-day.
Charles B (Redmond,Wa)
In this picture there appears to be two british policemen who are both smiling while a woman hugs one of them and there are a bunch of smiling people around them i think there is probably a festival going on and policemen are out to make sure nothing goes wrong
Manasvini C. (Kirkland, Washington)
The people in this image are on the street, and most of them are smiling, so I assume that this image is showing some kind of peaceful march/rally or festival. The men in the foreground are wearing uniforms with the words "Metropolitan Police" on them, and their hats show the emblem of the British Police; the photograph was most likely taken in England. The woman in the foreground appears to be embracing one of the police officers, perhaps out of familiarity or thankfulness (judging from their expressions). Many people in the image are wearing clothing with short (or nonexistent) sleeves, and the sky in the background is clear, so it's likely that this picture was taken during the summer.
Kathrine (Austin)
I think the woman is grateful to the policeman for giving her directions to the place she wants to go. There's a map in the policeman's left hand, she seems happy, and the other policeman seems amused at her joyful reaction to his colleague.
Moiz C. (Redmond)
I think that this picture has something to do with a parade of some sort maybe the women's day march since that has just passed. It could be some sort of event or gathering. What makes me say that is there seem to be lots of people in the background of this picture and some of their attention seems to be faced towards the left of this photo and the people the look happy because they have smiles on their faces. Also, there seem to be 4 police officers on the scene and they are probably providing security to all of the people. Also, the police officer seems to be holding a map so he could've been helping out the lady so she could get somewhere and he probably helped her and then she gave him a hug.
thorsprincess (Olympia, Washington)
Looks like a happy event of some sort in a UK or Commonwealth urban area (Metropolitan Police vests and badges.) At least one person is looking up at something; others are looking at the smiling woman and officer. She seems to be gently flirting with the officer to join the fun or in the happy spirit of the moment, or simply thanking him for directions (because of the map in his hand.) The officer is not leaning toward her, so he seems to be conscious of an official role, but he is smiling and relaxed, so he is not threatened in any way. The other officer is smiling, enjoying the general joie-de- vivre of the crowd and the momentary encounter of the other officer with the pretty woman. Because of the visible microphone, the officers are present in a formal capacity to make announcements, if necessary, probably for crowd control at an event or simply to monitor a busy street area. Of course, the woman may have recognized the officer as a friend, relative or acquaintance, and just been pleased to see him.
Aditi Joshi (Redmond, WA)
In this picture, the setting is outside in a city downtown area. There is big crowd looking at something past the people in the foreground and some are even taking pictures of it. An African American woman has her arms around one of the police officers and the second police officer on the right is smirking at them. Giving that there are small crowns on top of the police officer’s hat, I think this is from the United Kingdom. Due to the happy mood of the people in the background as most of them are smiling even the police officers seem to be not serious, I this this picture has something to do with Prince and Megan Markle’s wedding.
Earlene (New York City )
The three officers have their backs together, so they can see in all directions at the same time. Since there have terrorist problems in crowded areas in London, this is a necessary policing strategy. However, the woman who has embraced the officer is a distraction not just to him, but to the officer next to him as well.
Surya (Redmind,WA)
In this picture I think that the street is extremely busy due to an event or a festival and which also makes sense for a police officer to be there if it is a big festival. Also, the police officer has a map which also shows that he can help navigate people around the festival/event. Then in the main focus we see a woman hugging the police officer which I think is her friend. The reaction of the officer and the woman's facial expression looks like they know each other from somewhere. I can also see that the police officers have weird hats that are different than from the us so I think that these police men are from London.
Rhea S (Seattle)
This picture may be from a summer festival in London. The police officer is wearing a badge that says Metropolitan Police, which are based in London. The lady in the image is wearing a short top, so it must be warm outside. Additionally, everyone looks happy and relaxed, and the lady is embracing the police officer. There seems to be a happy, calm vibe in the picture.
Sofia B (Houston )
To set the scene, it looks to be summer because the woman is in a looser top, and the police officers have their sleeves rolled up. It looks like they are in London because the police officers’ uniforms say metropolitan police and the type of hat they are wearing is British. Both the woman and the police officer on the left have wedding rings, so it is very plausible that they are definately not strangers. Also, they are probably not strangers because then a lot of people would be looking at them, and the people in the background are not looking at this couple at all. Everyone looks very happy and jovial as seen by their smiles, so it is possible that there is some kind of public event going on. Lastly, this picture seems to be taken a couple of years ago based on the technology of the officers and the person in the background on the far right with the camera. These walkie-talkies and cameras seem a little behind the times but still not too long ago.
Irene Y (Redmond)
In this picture, four policemen can be seen among a crowd of people. You can tell by the badge on the one of the left, which states “Metropolitan Police”, as well as the earpieces they wear, and the helmets the other three are wearing. The helmets with the British crown on them and the tag on the other officer signify that the location is London. The throng is looking at something, off to the left and up. The faces of the people are either smiling or neutral, indicating that the event is good-natured. The spectators may be looking at a large screen, or a platform higher up with a speaker or performance. This is happening during the daytime in summer or late spring, as can be seen by the green deciduous tree and the light clothing worn by the people. A woman has her arms around the left police officer, and they are smiling at each other. The policeman with his back to the one in question is looking over his shoulder at the couple and is smiling as well. The look of familiarity between the two suggest that they know each other. Also in the picture is a piece of paper with lines on it, presumably a map, being held by the policeman on the left. The one on the right has a red and white bracelet around his wrist. Using perspective, it can be seen that the woman, the policeman she is hugging, and the two officers closest to him are a bit separated from the crowd.
Logan F. (Kirkland, WA)
1. I feel after this photo it might be about the Notting Hill Carnival that happened in London. It happened on the 25th-27th of January. There was police protection in most areas to help in case something happens during the celebration. 2. I felt that the event was recent enough to be part of the wgoitp while, the few things shown and the few facts I already knew help point me toward this idea. I mentioned the police, crowd, and the outside. These were present, I heard about it because it was planned and had about 50,000 street performers making it the largest street carnival in Europe. 3. In the actual photo most of the people shown in the photo are smiling, there are buildings in the background and a grey sky showing the event is outside, and the police officer in the background and the one on the right are wearing police hats that are generally worn in Europe. Specifically associated with London.
April (Khs)
In this picture I see some what of a celebration. The officers are clearly from a different country due to there unorthodox uniforms from American perspective. This seems to be a celebration because the woman is hugging the officer and he seems to be embracing it instead of trying to keep her away. The two officers are smiling along with the woman, and no one in the background seems to be arrested which is also a positive. Lastly the crowd seems very content as they are taking selfies and pulling out their cameras to capture the moment.
bgt (Brooklyn, NY)
It's a nice moment caught on camera. The three main subjects are smiling. The policemen uniforms indicate this is in the UK; it's probably a parade or demonstration (the map in the policeman's hand shows an area or route highlighted.) The woman is effusively hugging the policeman, and she's probably saying something funny. His smile and body language suggest a funny mix of being uncomfortable but amused at the same time (he's British). I love the look on the younger policeman's face. More than jealous he seems relieved it's not him being hugged.
Inbar (O)
I think that this photo an event is taking place, presumably a festival or parade of sorts because of the large crowd of people and cheerful demeanor of everyone present as well as the woman's colorful, fun outfit. I also think it is a big festival that takes place in London because of how crowed the photo is and the presence of police officers to keep people in line who are wearing uniforms typical of English officers. The woman and officer in the checkered hat also appear to be familiar with one another judging by their friendly expressions.
JJAOSE (NJ)
• What is going on in this picture? In this picture, people are celebrating in the streets, likely in England. I believe that a summer street festival is taking place. • What do you see that makes you say that? Every face visible in the picture is smiling. The policemen are wearing hats and vests that resemble those common among English officers. The woman and officers closest to the camera are wearing short sleeves, which indicates that this picture was taken during summertime. Given the police presence and cheery atmosphere, I believe a festival is taking place. I can infer that it is a street festival because the crowd is mingling between two city sidewalks. • What more can you find? The woman closest to the picture is hugging one of the police officers. His body language and facial expression implies that he is comfortable with this. Perhaps the woman and officer are close friends.
Parbeen S (Redmond)
As seen from this picture we can see that there are two policemen in this picture. The British helmet is a big clue to where this picture is taken from, somewhere in the UK or European countries. You can see metropolitan police on the vest of one of the officers which makes them part of the London Police. Judging by the people’s clothing, suggests this picture is taken in the summer. Since there are a lot of people on the streets which conduces me to think is this a festival in London. Some of the of the biggest summer festivals are British summer time, wireless festival and many others. The lady is probably one of the people attending the festival and is hugging one of the officers just cause she can.
Meghan O (Sammamish, WA)
There is some sort of gathering of people in the background, in an urban settings with four individuals wearing hats and similar uniforms as a woman wraps her arms around one of the individuals who seems to be pleased. The public gathering seems to be a carnival or some type of celebration as people, including the officers , seem to be enjoying themselves. The officers could potentially be there to regulate the crowds but the certain male individual in uniform being hugged by the woman seems to be friendly or familiar with the woman or just trying to be a good sport for the celebration.
Claire C (Redmond, WA)
Firstly, this has to be taking place somewhere in the UK, as three of the four policemen in the photo are wearing those distinctively British crown-emblazoned helmets. There is a crowd of people all looking to the left of the photo in the background, which suggests that there is something interesting going on outside the picture frame. The policemen are there presumably for crowd control. But as it is, they don’t seem to be doing a very good job of it. A woman who seems a bit too old to be the shorter policeman’s wife has her arms wrapped around said policeman, who seems very pleased with the arrangement. The other policeman is smirking slightly, like he’s amused by the situation his colleague is in. With some more context, there might be a way to interpret this photo favorably, but at the moment, the only interpretation I can think of involves policemen neglecting duty and an overly flirtatious pedestrian. Not exactly flattering to anyone involved.
TOPEY SCHWARZENBACH (Pasadena, CA)
I see at least four police officers crowded together, surrounded by quite a large crowd, of smiling people. I think that the woman is flirting with the officer who is pleasantly surprised. He holds a map in his hand, which may indicate that he was trying to help her with directions. Perhaps this is a #Me Too demonstration in which everyone is still in a good mood?
Andrea (Palmdale )
In this picture there’s like a parado or something and the police officers are looking to the woman as she hugs one of them. It looks like she already knows him.
BB (Geneva)
This looks like a woman at Notting Hill Carnival in London. I say that because the woman looks to be of Caribbean origin and is in a cut out neon yellow t-shirt (despite being over 30). It's summer because everyone's sleeves are rolled up and it's pretty sunny out. The lady is pulling the police officer (who's in a Metropolitan Police vest, so probably in London) in for a dance. The officer is smiling, so is the blurry man behind them. The officer's younger partner looks back with an amused smirk on his face. Is this his first time at Carnival? Or is he just more reserved than his partner? All in all, a police presence at a West-Indian carnival that puts the NYPD to shame.
Billy Jim (Guelph, Ontario)
At the Notting Hill Carnival, a summer public gathering with ba Caribbean flavour, in London, the Metropolitan Police, in flak vests in case of difficulty, are more than happy to mingle with the relaxed crowd, the crowd itself happy enough to be taking selfies. The gal has lost all inhibitions, to intimately invite the policeman to dance with her, as she has just seen his incredible dancing moves (www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGt-zVprfPc ). His buddy has decided that he needs to improve his moves (www.youtube.com/watch?v=E61ivz6UaUY ). The crowd is amazed that some Met cops can dance!
Darmok630 (VT)
I see four English police officers at an event. None of the people in the photo appears in distress or worried. She has met up with her significant other, spouse, companion and is hugging him while he is at work.
DC (desk)
The police man being hugged is holding a map.
JJAOSE (NJ)
Good observation, DC. Maybe the officer has maps at the ready in case someone needs directions at the event.
Fred L (Albuquerque NM)
Well, it's in the UK, probably London. I reckon the lady is thanking the policeman for their engagement. He does seem very stiff and rigid so perhaps she is just a lost tourist, judging by the map. Actually i prefer to think they are just long lost friends. I await the "real" story later this week.
isabel (Ca)
It seems to be a good moment by the way the main people in this picture are smiling . Also , the officer has a map in his hands which indicates that he most likely helped her with directions .
Nessa (CA)
• What is going on in this picture? A brazilian women is hugged on a police officer in england during a parade or public announcement. • What do you see that makes you say that? The women looks like she can be brazilian and the officer has a hat from a European country. • What more can you find? I can find signs of the restaurants and stores behind the people
Ashton cleman (Palmdale Ca )
• What is going on in this picture? A woman from I believe from France is embracing a police officer . she hugging him while his partner watches there surroundings . More than just the woman is happy for some reason. • What do you see that makes you say that? The reason why i say this is because the lady is hugging him and hugging tightly and she's happy so i'm assuming she's embracing him . • What more can you find? The people in the back seem to be looking up at something.
Carlton (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
I think the man the woman is hugging is her husband and she is just glad to see him.
Taysia (Palmdale )
In this picture it looks like the woman is thanking the police officer. This takes place in london because the "Metropoitian Police" sign is on him and I looked that up and that originates in London. There also looks like there is a parade or a strike going on behind the two main people. There is also the officer who is standing to the far right. He is smiling and the guy in the background looks like he is smiling as well.
Dave (NYC)
The woman just told the officer "we can make agreat movie with your body camera."
leandro (palmdadle )
There is a public speech or demonstration that has brought the cops out to maintain order. The woman in white pants has decided to charm the officer by hugging him. The other officer is already sympatheti c.
Ant (palm)
A woman and a police officer are hugging and it is very peaceful There is also mixed races coming together.
Gisell (Hinkley high school)
There are three main people who are the picture, there are two police men and there is a women who appears to be hugging one of the police men. She appears to be extending her gratitude towards the officer through a hug. The Vest the officer is wearing says,"Metropolitan Police." There is crowd behind the officer and the woman so I can assume that something good can be happening around the area, since everyone seems to be smiling in background.
Jennifer (Seattle)
The woman's expression seems to indicate gratitude towards the officer, and he seems reluctantly happy to accept. Maybe. I think this is London. Perhaps she is grateful to them for being there?
Angel (California )
In this picture I see two police officers that happen to look like from the United Kingdom. There is also a woman looking to have a good time in a playful matter because the cop seem to enjoy what she is doing.
JJAOSE (NJ)
I noticed the happy looks on the faces of the woman, police officers, and people in the background. Maybe they are enjoying a happy occasion, such as a street festival.
Pat (Drewry, NC)
British bobbies doing a little crowd control along a parade route on an unusually warm summer day - with one parade spectator expressing her appreciation for their good work. The only other thing to say - that policeman needs to lose some weight, maybe should volunteer for the bicycle patrol.
Ismael (Palmdale )
Within this photo I can see two police officers smiling at an African American. In the photo I see nothing but smiles and joy around. It also seems like they are protesting.
Katherine Flores (Palmdale,CA)
It looks like the woman is trying to keep the attention of the officer during some kind of event.
Emmanuel Iniguez (Palmdale, CA)
It looks like things are going down in the streets, reason why the police are there. The African American seems to make things less tense by seducing the police by getting all hands on.
Leola (Seattle, Wa)
I don´t things this photo shows things tense at all. The crowd is mostly white and appears relaxed. Some are looking up at something. The police officers are also relaxed.
Kris (Md)
Woman tells a bobby she lost her cell phone. She asks the bobby to borrow his. He said OK, but that regulations prohibit him tying up his hands with personal business on duty. He also, in a potentially #MeToo move, tells her that the microphone can't be removed and is set for really low (close) pick-up. Since the woman didn't actually lose her phone, just wanted to meet the cop, both are smiling and happy as she leans in to share the mic.
Alejandro Marentes (Palmdale)
I believe that it is a celebration in Britain due to the hats and the police being there just in case people get out of line. The people are celebrating over some sort of announcement they heard and they are all looking in that direction.
Mosaid (SHS)
very smart claim. good connections.
Victor (California)
I see two officers at a local event guiding the crowd around them. The woman must be his wife/girlfriend or a loved one as she's seen putting her arms around him. She is also looking at him endearingly, and he doesn't seem to mind, further proving the point. Both the cops and the woman seem fairly happy, so it must not be a serious event.
David Guier (Washington DC)
Something good is going on. Everyone's smiling!
Lisa M. (Portland, OR)
It's a musical event in the UK and the woman is playfully attempting to dance with the police officer, who can't reciprocate because he's on duty.
Diego (palmdale)
The officers did something good and the lady is congratulating them.
Tom (san francisco)
A parade or street fair (or both) is in progress, and a reveler is friendly with an officer. A fellow officer looks on and neither seems to be doing their job of patrolling the streets and the crowd. Clearly it is the UK. Some of the crowd are peering at the parade or some event. It seems like a good time is being had by all, but looks are often deceiving. In my home town, street fairs and parades often transform into rowdiness and riots, and while I am all for community policing strategies, the officers should not be ding what they are doing. Get her number and do your job.
eddy (palmdale)
What i see is a woman hugging a man which happens to be a police officer. Both seem to be happy and seem to be a some sort of event.
sergio villatoro (palmdale ca)
A woman's march caused police officers to come, it appears that one of these women decided to flirt with a police officer. Another police officer seems him and smirks, looking like he is happy for his friend
Mark Hernandez (Palmdale)
I see a crowd of people being happy about something and a women hugging the policeman from excitement or thanking him for what he did. I also see another policemen next to him and he is also happy.
NIck (Palmdale, CA)
I see an African American women hugging an officer. It seems she is thanking him for his service. In return she gives him a big hug.
Abdullah (Palmdale, CA)
It seems as if there is a public disturbance going on, and to make matters less tense the woman attempts to distract and woo one of the officers, calming the situation down more
Jack Elzinga (Gainesville, FL)
Everyone is calling this a "hug." It's not. It's a very tender gesture, almost flirtatious. The 2nd cop's look says he wishes he was getting it too.
Cam (Victoria, BC)
It looks like the woman is flirting with the police officer, and she maybe likes him.
GMT (Tampa, Fla)
I think the woman and the officer just tied the knot, and the other uniformed officer is his best man. The people around are celebrating their wedding. I think it's not London, but some place like Jamaica. Well, that's what I see....
Iliana D. (Hinkley High School)
One is officers is laughing enjoying how a lady is leaning in to hug him. This could be because of a women's protest and maybe the officer is agreeing with her on how women's rights matter.
Bill Pollard (Austin, TX)
Participant in a women's march (England) shows appreciation and love for male policeman covering the march.
Oscar (San Diego)
There is a public speech or demonstration that has brought the cops out to maintain order. The woman in white pants has decided to charm the officer by hugging him. The other officer is already sympathetic.
cristina (hinkley)
i think that the old lady is flirting or dancing with the guy by the way their are both smiling to each other.
netzi (palmdale)
I see a crowd of people being happy about something and also the policemen being happy as well. A woman giving a police man a hug in excitement and thankfulness for something that is going on. The other police man looking at the woman's reaction and the police man and smiling at that. I can just only find joy and happiness in this picture. Maybe the police were there to help and they actually did and that's why they are happy at their accomplishments and that's why the woman is giving one of the policeman a hug.
Kaitlyn Guerrero (Palmdale)
It seems like this dark skinned women is hugging the officer. Also. it also seems like they could have a close relation.
Jack Ostrofsky (London)
London Metropolitan Police demonstrated by uniforms, "Metropolitan Police' on the officers stab vest. Deducing from expressions including those in the background it is at a public festival and one held in the summer. Quite likely Notting Hill Carnival. The map at the bottom seems to have Kensington Palace near the large number two on the map, but I can't quite make it out clearly enough to be certain.
Mekhi Williams (Palmdale)
-There's a black woman hugging a policeman who appears to be someone she is close with or having with relations with - The two individuals are hugging and gazing into each others eyes - The police officer is holding a map, it looks like they both have wedding rings
Israel Caro (Aurora, CO)
I agree they are probably in some type of parade about races and they are showing people that they can still be happy even if they are different skin colors and they are just all happy
Cierra Steemer (Palmdale)
In this picture there is a African American woman hugging a police officer, who is Caucasian. There is also a map in the police officers hand, so maybe he helped her find something she was looking for a gave him a hug to say thank you. I believe the photographer is also trying to the message of police brutality.
Itzel R (Hinkley High School)
I agree because what I see in the picture is an African American woman hugging a police man. This seems to be happening around midday and somewhere in the UK. This seems to be some sort of festival or event for the police officers to maybe show that not all officers are bad and to show the other side of them, other than just assuming that they're all brutal.
Enrique (Hinkey)
I agree with you and there can be no sign of police brutality because the cop is being nice with the lady.
Fionn (Western New York)
The police uniforms and map in his hand indicate they're in the UK, not the US. Highly unlikely the woman is "African American". She's most likely British.
Grissel R. (California )
The picture appears to have been taken outside of the U.S. based on the uniforms of the officers, it was most likely taken in the U.K. It appears to be a very joyful setting, based on the looks of the people in the crowd. The picture is most likely taken at a festival or parade of some sort.
Zaira Sotelo (Hinkley Highschool )
I agree that this picture was taken in the U.K. at a festival. I agree with this because of the way the woman is dressed. She is wearing a neon yellow shirt and she is showing some skin. This supports the claim that it's at a festival because in festivals people wear bright colors to signify they're happy. If this was a professional setting she wouldn't be dressed like that. I can also see in the background that there are many people, in festivals there are also a lot of people that's why they need police officers.
Mara (Hinkley High School )
I agree with you because they look like they are comfortable with the lady hugging him. By the surroundings it looks like they are in a parade or an important event.
monica donayre (Guadalajara, Jal.)
In this picture a British policeman is interacting with a woman, and it seems like she is trying to warm up to him to avoid punishment for whatever she may have done.
Amber SIf. (HInkley )
Wouldn't she hug him for doing something good for her? It seems that they are having some kind of like festival maybe somewhere in the UK. She probably lost her kid for a minute, and he had found him/her, and she's hugging him because she's thankful for that.
Noor (Guadalajara)
This looks like a European country hinted at by the policeman's hat shape. The man seems fairly familiar with the woman's face due to the way he is reacting to her hugging him, as well as the way the other policeman is looking at his partner as though that lady was his companion.
Carlie (Guadalajara)
I think that the officer and the woman have reunited in the picture, and she is giving him a hug. This picture was probably taken in a parade or a rally, as shown by the map of the policeman and the happiness of everyone in the picture. I think that the policeman and woman know each other, as they seem happy to see each other by looking at their body language. This picture was taken in the UK, as shown by the uniforms of the police with the crown on the crest. I also think the picture was taken in a public event where the center of attention is a speaker or even in the front, as many people seem to be looking to the left.
Ana Paula (Guadalajara, Mexico)
I believe this picture was taken in the United Kingdom since I know how the uniform of the police officers in the UK look like. I think the woman is hugging the police officer thanking him for his service, or maybe it's a celebration of something and people are really happy since both the lady and the officer are smiling as well as the people in the background.
Diego R (Guadalajara)
There is a festival or concert going on in England, and police are there to watch over the event. A woman, however, feeling pretty enthusiastic, reaches over to one policeman and starts flirting with him, which draws his partner's attention and humor. You can infer these things based on the crown symbol on the cop's hat, which tells you it is British police, as well as the fact that everyone (including the crowd) are happy, which means they are not in a protest. Another thing I notice is the map in the cop's hand, which is probably useful to know how far the festival/concert extends.
Noah (California)
I think a bunch of people i think this thats place in United Kingdom and i see a girl hunging a police officer.I think the police officer is married
Flor (Guadalajara)
This takes place in England because of the police officer uniform is like in England. I think that this woman is hugging the police officer because she is trying to get away from a certain punishment Maybe she committed a crime, but she is trying to make the officer be distracted by her. He seems like he likes her since he is smiling and looking directly into her eyes. She is also smiling and looking at his eyes. I think this because it looks like she started hugging him and he seems happy about it.
Jimmy Tran (Hinkley High School)
I agree since maybe she is trying to trick the officer and get away with something that she might have done. I also think that the women is trying to flirt with the police officer and is doing well since both are smiling and seem happy. The officer doesn't seem to be bothered that the women's hands are on him.
omar (cailfornia)
a london officer have just seen his wife and saved her from a incident there is a lot of people and it seems like they have not seen there selfs for a long time both of the cops have a ring so they most be married they most be very happy couple they both are smiling at they each other they might be at a festable and she got saved.
JG (Denver)
It looks like she has some plastic handcuffs.
Lo (Mexico)
I think that a celebration is happening in the background because the woman and the man are not the centers of attention. I do not think they have everyone's priority because they are looking in the other direction. I think they are married and because he is on duty he is not allowed to hug her but he is clearly smiling because he is very happy to see his wife. His partner is smiling because he looks at the happily married couple interacting on the street during something was being celebrated. I can say that they are married because they both have a ring.
Camilla Davis (Hinkley High School)
I agree with part of what you're saying. I do agree with you that these two might be married to each other, because of the rings and also because of the way they are looking and hugging each other. I disagree that these two are not the center of attention. While they may not be the center of attention at the event or rally that could be taking place, we can infer that in this picture these two are the center of attention, because the only other person that you can see, is the other police officer that is by them, and everybody else is blurred out. I do agree with you, but also disagree with you.
Aseniq (palmdale, ca)
It appears to be a friendly-ish type of hug because the officers aren't making the move to resist the woman. However, the mans arms aren't raised to return the hug to the woman, but he does appear to be smiling so perhaps they are acquaintances. There is a busy crowd in the background and a row of officers, so I think either a protest or some kind of parade is going on. The officer also has a map in his hand so perhaps he is meant to be patrolling the area. All we can tell for sure is that the woman isn't a threat to the officer or else he would not be looking at her with such an expression.
Fanerith Ron (HHS)
I agree that the lady is not a threat judging by the expression of the officer(s). I do not, however, agree with the statement that she is an acquaintance.
Andre (california)
first of all, I think this is in the middle of A street. And her son or won of her family members got in a car crash and a lot of people came out and there was one police officer that seen it and he called his team and helped them and that's what I think is happening in this picture. also she is hugging the police officer and that's why I think this. Also the lady was happy probably because they saved her son or family member.
Delaney Kate (Palmdale, CA)
I believe this picture was taken at a rally or a march. It appears that the woman is giving the officer a hug, so the march must be friendly and not have any feelings of harshness. The officer is holding a parade map it appears like. Both officers are wearing headsets, so it could be to communicate on what is going on. The crowd behind them looks happy as well. It might be a parade for a law being passed. The woman could perhaps be a close friend, but not married or in a relationship because the officer is wearing a wedding band while the woman is not. The other officer looks happy when seeing the both of them come closer. This scene is most likely in the UK because of how the officers are dressed, and the emblem seen on the uniforms.
Regan Arkless (Houston, Texas)
In this picture, I believe that it is taking place in a European country based on the officers' attire. It looks to me like there is some kind of parade going on, judging by the map in one of the police officer's hands and the headset that he is wearing. All three people in this picture look relatively happy and the woman who is attempting to hug one of the police officers is trying to rejoice with him. Based off of the other officer's looks, there seems to be no problem and is actually a humorous situation.
xtaforster (Houston, TX)
Great attention to the image's specific details, @Regan—the map, the smiles, the headset. Regarding the headset, why did that specific detail communicate "parade" and "humorous situation" to your mind, rather than something else? It's an interesting detail to note as a contributing factor to your hypothesis.
Solomon Byrd (palmdale california )
In this picture I see an african american women hugging a cacasion man that is a police officer and it seems tha they are married and i also see them surounded by a crowd of people and two other officers are also surrounded
Natalia (Hinkley )
I agree that in this picture there is an African american women hugging a police officer, but i disagree that they are married.
omar herandez (hhs)
i agree because i also noticed all those things
Nessa (CA)
This picture shows the main focus of three main characters. The two police men and a women. All three seem to be pleased as well as the crowd. This looks as if the picture is taken in Europe based off the officers clothes. The women looks to be Indian or African American. Based off the crowd I would assume that there was either a rally or an announcement. There seems to be another officer in the background and the main officer is holding what looks to be a map therefor I would assume thy were there for crowd control.
Arlet (Hinkley)
I don't think this is in Europe because the police officer's vest, it says "metropolitan police". It would have been in a different language. I think there was a rally or announcement too maybe downtown or a large city.
God is Love (New York, NY)
I started by trying to figure out where these policemen are from by looking at their uniforms. The British Bobby Helmet is a clue that this is somewhere in the UK or Commonwealth. Look closely and you can just barely read "METROPOLITAN" above "POLICE" on one's vest and the other's shield, on his helmet. So that would make them part of the London Police. With that, when is London warm enough for people to be dressed like this. Looks like summer in London. Then, what's going on or where are they? Looks like a parade or festival. With that, what are London's biggest summer celebrations? One is The Notting Hill Carnival, which is a big party thrown by London's Caribbean community and it takes place one weekend in August every year. Which could mean that the woman is British Caribbean? So my guess is that she is a Notting Hill Carnival goer and in her merriment, is hugging one of the Metropolitan Police assigned to the Carnival. Looks like everyone is having a good time.
Stacie (HHS)
I believe that this comment is valid prediction. I see all the clues mentioned, and they make scene. I believe that the women is thanking the man for something he has done. Maybe for his public survives or maybe something more personal. The people around seem to be having a good time, so I believe this is some sort of celebration.
Bonsitu (Hinkley High School)
I agree with all the aforementioned statements. But I think the woman in the picture knew the police officer before this moment, because his colleague doesn't look very surprised of her hug, he just seems happy for them.
Jack Ostrofsky (London)
I agree and think the map is the carnival zone around Notting Hill, looking closely it appears to be Kensington Palace on the map near the number two....
Larry (California )
i see two police officers. I think this is in the India. I think this was taken in the 2000's. I see a girl with her arms around one of the officer. I see a lot of people in the background.
Dominique (California)
I think in love with the man and wants to marry him and she probably put her shirt like that because it was hot.I feel like this picture was taken in the year 2011,14.
Logan (Calfornia )
i think the officer wants to hug the lady in front of him. i also think they are married. i also think this is taken place in china. i think the officers are blocking the people from the traffic. i also think there was a crash and they are blocking the people from the cars.
Mathew (California )
In this picture I see a police officer with maybe his wife or friend. It looks like a festival because there is lots of people having fun. It looks like it could be in the U.S or the England because of the black hat in the background. This could have been in the 2,000s. there could be people dancing in the background to. THIS IS KERSHAW SIGNING OFF!!!!
makayla (cailfornia)
it looks like the lady is trying to kiss or give the police officer a hug .or she could be at a festival and she is just dancing with the police officer and the his friend is laughing at what happening to him friend .
Reyna (Californa )
In this pitcher it looks like there a town festival going on. I think they needed the Police there to keep everyone safe. well i know this is in the day time. so it might have to be some party that people got drunk to flirting with the police. It looks like the woman is drunk because she is all up no the police. It all so looks like the other police man is cheeking out the girl too. I dont know where this is but it looks like a fun party.
Adriana (California )
What i see is a woman hanging a police officer and it looks like's the place that they are at is London and the guy looks happy because he probadly safe her and the there are alot of people and the guy behind the police man are he is launghting.
Afeef (California)
The picture looks like it in is New York because its populated. I see people having fun and communicating with each other. I also see people going to grocery stores. I see people having a wonderful time. The lady is also talking to the police officer.
Destiny (JKMS)
it looks like a lady that might be giving him a kiss or a hug it might be a appreciate cops day and she might have been giving him a hug an his partner wanted a hug and she was giving him a hug or she thought he was cute i think this was taking in a place were the police are dressed were'd and i think
Bailey (calfrorna)
Their is a girl huging a polese man. i think she was going to get hurt and they saved her. thir is two poleas men.they look like ther in england. one cops hat is a bit weird. the girl looks like she is the brites person thir. i think thir are in the city. the cop is looking at the girl and the outher cop. the cop that is getting huged he is smiling and so is the outher cop.
Fermin N (Mexico)
This picture takes place in the United Kingdom or somewhere near that since the policemen placed in the picture have the clothing design of a typical policeman in the United Kingdom. It seems to be some sort of parade in the location since there are a lot of different people looking around, diverse and many are happy. I think they are security guards of a certain location and the woman is either in some way related or just wants to drag the attention of the policemen. While the other policemen seem jealous of the attention the policeman is getting the attention.
Daisy M (Hinkley)
I agree because the uniform the officer has on is different than the ones here in the US therefore I think it would be in the UK. You don't usually see that many people so I think that there is a special occasion or it is like a parade or something new that draws peoples attention that is causing for there to be lots of people there. Also, there has to be security in big things like that because they need to protect the place which also makes me think that it is a special occasion.
Betty (Mexico)
This is taking place in the UK and one os the police officers wife is embracing him and appreciating him, because of the type of uniform the police men are wearing and the way the women is looking at the police officer.
Karla V (Mexico)
I feel like the police officer just proposed to his girlfriend, they both seem to be very happy but only she is wearing a ring on her finger. The other police officer seems happy for them which makes me think this is why they are happy. Besides if they were not in a relationship of some type she probably wouldn't be hugging him.
Charlotte Walker (Mexico)
I think that what is happening here, is that somewhere in London, a police officer had to report to duty at a concert, parade, or gathering like that of some sort, and he could not be there with his girlfriend/wife, so she told him that they would meet there. You can see other people looking behind the couple, and taking pictures.
Elias (californa)
in the picture it looks like the girl is trying to kiss the cop and there are alot of cops in one place i think there is a festival on the streets and there are people around all the cops
patrick (california)
two officers during a protest in england. one of them has a wife or girlfrind
Roberto Rosa (California)
i see to copes and a lot of people i also see a girl trying to give the police oficer a hug or a kiss i think this is based off in the UK.
mia (California)
I see two police men back to back. I see the police men giving his wife a smile. They look like they both have a ring on their finger. The other man is looking at them hug and they look like their about to kiss. I think they are at a festival. It looks like it was taken in 2016 in the day.
Dylan (california)
I think its a festival going on.I also think the location is united kingdom.I think the picture is in the city.I the girl could be the officers girlfriend.I think the picture was taken today
WS (Germantown, MD)
This is not a protest but a festive public gathering. The woman is the wife of a fellow police-officer (not pictured). She is greeting her husband's co-worker with a warm hug. His smile is warm as he receives her hug, but he maintains his personal and professional boundaries keeping his arms at his side.
Brandon (Calaforna)
I think this picture was taken in the city. I see a lady hugging a police officer. I see three police officer having there backs together. I see people looking at them or a building. I think the police officers gust helped her family. I think one of the officers are s higher level then the other two because they are wearing helmet like hats, and one if wearing a army hat but in different colors. I think this was taken in New York or some place with a big population. I think this was taken in the 2000 years.
John lebaron (ma)
Why?
Renee Weinstein (Buffalo Grove, Illinios)
LA3 Mods 22-24 I believe this is taking place in London, or the UK, because the police officer is wearing a special police hat and the style of the police clothing looks European. It is for sure taking place somewhere in Europe. There is an African-American lady hugging one police officer and I believe she should be accused of the dress code because her stomach is exposed. The other policeman is happy for the other policeman because he is smiling as he looks back. The police officer was holding a map because it is a parade map, and the people are gathered for a parade. The police officers are wearing headsets. Everybody seems happy.
Megan Altsuler (TX)
This picture looks like a couple at some sort of public gathering. The man and the women in the front look very happy together, with smiles on their faces and the women's arms around his neck, and the man standing next to them watches them with a look of joy on his face. However, the couple is not the center of attention, because the crowd around them isn't paying much attention to them. The crowd looks happy, too. Possible because this gathering is celebratory of maybe a law being passed or something like that. The 2 men in the front are both police, but they don't look like they're trying to stop whatever is happening, rather they are a part of it, which is more evidence that this could be a celebration of a law being passed.
Shyanne D. Bernard (USA)
What I think is happening is the police officer and the lady in yellow are maybe lovers seeing his face expression is happy or full of humor. The other guy looks like he is about to laugh. And they are spending time together?
Dorian (Hinkley High School)
In this picture, their is a woman who is on a police officer. But the woman is looking ready to kiss the man.
Arianna Polk (Hinkley High School)
I see two police officers. This looks like it's happening at a parade last year. A lady is trying to hug and dance all on the police officer and he seems to like it. I think this because both of their faces appear to be smiling.

Friends from high school finally meet after twenty years when he left collage and went to a training base in England. They talk and give each other a hug and after a while they go their own ways.

Two police officers just stopped a major crime from happening .To give thanks the woman hugs him. They are in the middle of the street.

In this picture, we see there is a woman, shes been homeless for about 12 years. Around two weeks ago these 2 police men felt terrible, they decided to rescue her, they decided to make her happy and take her to the store so she could buy whatever she wanted. The girl bought shoes and a beautiful long white dress with sparkling red rubies running down the side, she said she was homeless because her parents disowned her, and threw her out because of the choices she made. The police man she has her arms wrapped around is a single man named Jerry, he was a loving man, he had three children and gained power over them when his wife left him. Ever since the day that man rescued her, they got married and they now live in a big yellow house with an old white pickup truck in the driveway- the end

A London police officer had just seen his best friend from high school. Since they have not seen each other after high school, they gave each other a nice warm hug. Now they are going to catch up with each other and tell each other what has happened after high school.

looks like my auntie is giving him a kiss so she can get out of breaking the law. Nobody knows what she did but him and his partner. Also they do not want her in prison because shes already old.Now shes gonna kiss him and his partner.
jennifer zimmerman (the western hemisphere)
They are obviously in the United Kingdom due to the emblem on the second police man's hat being a crown. The officer and the lady look like there close friends. They are obviously not in a relationship because the officer is wearing a wedding band and the lady is not. The background suggests they are in a plaza or some other very open, very local place.
Mike Padilla (ca)
In this photo it looks like there is a festival going on and the police officer on the right is trying not to laugh because he sees a fellow police officer with his wife about to kiss him while he is on duty. I mostly think they are married because the both have rings on their fingers and the woman is putting her hands over the officers neck. i think no officer who wasn't married to this women would let her just hug them.
joeel (sms )
This woman was walking down the street in New York City, and she finds her husband. She yells to get his attention. Then she runs over to him and tries to give him a kiss.
Nat (California)
In this picture it look like a women is hugging a british police man and they are both smiling to each other. My analysis why this is happening because the women is showing her affection to the police officer for his help in the work force. With my evidence the police officer is holding a map while there are people behind them with a few police officers with them made be thief were a parade because the people look like they are enjoying their self there.
C0dslayer21 (Wilmington)
My analysis is that in this picture, the black lady is thanking the cops for something and my evidence is by the way her face looks like, she is happy that the cops saved her from danger or something else like that. My second analysis is that the black lady is flurting with the cops and my evidence is by the lady is wrapping her arms around the cop on the left, she is flurting with both cops or the cop on the left for some reason. Which one of my opinions do you think is true. Please reply to this comment to tell me which one of my opinions is true or you can tell me your opinion(s), I don't really care, just please reply back to me. Thank You!

This photo was taken in London. The helmet badge of the second officer is of the London Metropolitan Police. A woman is distracting two officers. She is hugging one while another woman is taking something from the pocket of the other. I think the second woman is holding the webcam of the second officer.
Justis L (Hinkley High School)
In the picture, the woman on the left is hugging one of the officers, so I think they did something to help or did something good. I think they live in England or somewhere else that has the same types of outfits that the officers have. The reason why the picture made me think what I thought because of how the woman is hugging a WHITE officer.
Edgar (Hinkley High School)
What I think in this picture is, the woman is hugging the police cop because he probably saved her from some random accident. From all the people in the background, it has a New York vibe. I see this happening mid-2017.
Jo$3 (LA)
My analysis is that the lady came to visit his boyfriend from some where far because they look in love. The girl is going to kiss the man that put her arms around the man
mabel (Hinkley)
It seems that in this picture there are to white males and they seem to be very happy. A colored woman is hugging one of the men and they seem to be very happy seeing each other. He is holding a map in his hand, so I think something like a tour of the city they are in, might be going on.
AlexG (SMS)
There is an event being held in England. Two police officers are holding the place down. She asked the men for directions to the nearest food area. The men must have helped the lady as joy filled her face.

There is a festival going on in Britain and the policeman are standing by in case of emergency. The lady on the left is drunk because she is trying to kiss someone that is probably married. The policeman does not think she will actually kiss him so he is smiling.

The woman's house was on fire, because she was busy playing fortnite and was in the game with 6 people left. She forgot to get the spicy dog legs out the oven. She had met that cop before at a bar. When he got her ps4 and fortnite out the burning house she was leaning in for a big kiss. His co-worker was like " that's my boss."
Isaac Amaya (Heaven)
I agree with you
Courtney (SMS)
I think that the officer hugging the woman is in love. The other officer is trying not to laugh of how big of a fool he is. The officer hugging is not doing his job and there is a fight with black and whites behind them.
Riley (SMS )
I think that in this story, the police officer and the women are getting ready to kiss. The officer is supposed to be on call and strolling the streets when he runs across an old friend. This friend and the officer were planning to get married, but the fiance's mom called it off. The other officer in the background knows about the past and has been asked by the mother to keep them away from each other.
Janeth (Hinkley High school)
I think that in this story the lady is trying to get at the man and that the lady is messing around with guys because of the way she is dressed. But the officer looks like he is enjoying it because he is smiling and he is not doing anything about it. If the officer's boss saw him he would probably be suspended. and it looks like he is taking care of a crowd.
Spencer Thomas Patterson (SMS)
There is a festival going on in Britain. There is a cop dancing with a woman. They are both married, probably to each other because it looks like they are about to kiss.
jennifer (sms)
I think that the police officer is married to the woman because she is about to hug him and also because it looks like she is even about to give him a kiss.

In this picture, the women was caught speeding. In order to get out of the ticket she hugged and then kissed the cop. The cop then decided to let the speeding ticket go and to let her off with a warning. Then they decided to get married.

In this picture, the woman was about to get arrested during a rally because she was back talking a cop. The cop simply pulled out the hand cuffs and the woman quickly put her arms around him and leaned in for a kiss. Quickly, she pulled away. He started smiling then decided not to arrest her.
Ian (SMS)
I think in this photo this might be a couple. Since she has her arms around the cops neck. Both the cop and the women have a ring on. Or this might be a hooker in the streets trying to get attention. Because she has her shirt up really high.
LAAA Yearbook Staff (Los Angeles, CA)
Howdy From the one lonely student of the LAAA Yearbook Staff whats going on in this picture is a woman hugging a office this seems to be in London because of his uniform and his fellow officers as well its seems very peaceful like a carnival or parade is going on based on the woman and her bright vibrant shirt. What makes me say that is everyone happy and the amount of people there
Jeremias Cañedo (Nuevo Toledo en Puebla)
Their is a celebration in which the police is taking care and a drunk women came over and thank him. This photo must had been taken on South America or Europe for the police officer uniform and/or the houses that are on the background.
XD (LA)
In this picture, you can see that the officer on the left has a ring on and the woman looks like they are about to kiss so I'm thinking they're in some kind of public gathering. Looking at the hat on the officer to the right, you can see he has crown on it indicating that they're in England. cop. the cop have a map so i think she asked him were somthing was and he told her and she was very happy so she huged him it happen when there a event going on
Talal (SMS)
I believe that in this picture the cop is seeing his wife for the first time in years. They see each other at a parade where the cop was on watch and when she saw him she had to put her arms around him and kiss him. The cop in the background is looking at them like he is the third wheel.
Juan Cristobal (Guadalajara)
This image was taken in London. The policemans' outfit tells us that it is taken in England. The policeman who is being hugged has a ring on and he clearly is enjoying the hug the woman is giving to him. We can say that the woman is a stranger because of the face of the other policeman in the right.
Lindsey Fontaine (SMS)
As the police on NYC clear out the tired and excited people from New Year's Eve, one very drunk woman gets a bit wild. She thinks the officer is nice and notices his ring-less finger. She leans in for a kiss and one of the officers notices that he can smell some beer coming from her breath. He thinks about arresting her but does not.
Earl Ripling (Katonah NY)
Whereas all comments on photograph are descriptive of the scene, Craig’s comments introduces a bias not apparent in the photo. One cannot infer what other countries including our own, policing policies or procedures are from this image. As a post script I commend NYT for this interactive exercise on reading a photograph, an exercise that should be taught in our education systems.
Emily (Mexico)
It looks like some type of event is going on maybe in the UK or the US because it says "police". I think it's an event because of the number of people and because the police officer is holding a map. The police could be for security reasons. The lady hugging the man could be thanking him for helping out or she's his girlfriend. It seems like a very friendly event cause everyone is smiling.
Paula T (Guadalajara)
There's a woman hugging a police man. They both seem very happy due to the smiles they have on their faces. I noticed that everyone in the picture is smiling, even the people in the background.
Tianna Ak (juenau)
In this picture I see people in back they look happy. I know it was in England because of the officers uniform. They could be at a public thing. I see a map in the polices hand and he could be telling her where to go or she could be his girlfriend.
Grace S. (Sammamish)
In this picture I think there is a large event taking place, as seen by the crowd in the background. The setting also appears to be taking place in a city due to the map the police officer is holding and the fact that his jacket appears to be saying metropolitan police. The hats the officers are wearing are consistent with the ones worn in London. Therefore, I believe that the people are gathering on a street in London for a large event and the officers are there for crowd control. The women in the picture appears to be smiling and so she was probably having a quick conversation with the officer and is in the midst of giving him a hug.
Ignacio G. (Mexico)
It looks like they are flirting and like they are about to kiss.
Luis (Mexico)
I think that in this picture there is a parade and they are celebrating and cheering for it. This woman runs and hugs this policeman and tries to kiss him but he laughs and doesn't do anything. The policemen besides him just look at them like how cool would it be him. He would like a girl to hug him and try to kiss him like this woman is going to do.
Rafael (J)
It's a very weird picture from first sight. But I believe that what is happening is a women that is either drunk or high in some sort of substance and is having fun with a police officer that is taken the matter in a fun way. The women is hugging the officer and making him smile. By watching the back round of the picture very carefully, it look like what is the carnival or a party at New Orleans.
Jose pimentel (Wilmington)
My analysis is that he proposed to her because there's a lot of people happy and there smileing and hugging
Frida Gomez (Guadalajara)
I believe that this picture is taken from a equality for people with different types of color to be respected equally. The woman is hugging the police man, because is a way to say that they all have love and that they are in peace. A woman of color is hugging a policeman. they are both smiling.
Giselle Primero (Hinkley)
I agree with you because it seems like they are trying to get a message about not being racist due to the fact that they aren’t the same race yet they’re still hugging. It might be a protest about equality. It looks like a big event or parade.
jorge z (Guadalajara)
The lady committed a crime and is trying to flirt with the policeman so that she is not taken to jail.
Viviana Gomez (MX)
In this image I see many blurred people in the back, happy people. But maybe it can be a protest. I can also see two policemen back to back and one turning to see the other who is hugging a lady. I believe that the lady is trying to bribe or convince him of something.
Gazi M. (Hinkley High School)
@VIvianGomez I agree with you on some part of your comment. I agree that its some kind of protest and it might a protest because of police brutality. But the part I disagree with you at is that the lady is trying to bribe the policeman. I think the lady is trying to spread the love by kissing the policeman and getting across a message about police brutality.
Ale M (Mexico)
I think that there was an event in the city and there was security and these women is giving thanks to the police in a friendly way. I think they are in England because of the appearances of the policemen and the hat of the right police looks like a police in London or some place in England.
McKenna M (SMS)
In this photo, a protester is planting a kiss on the police officers cheek. She is thanking the officer for his service and for how nice that he has been to everyone. The police officer beside the couple is jealous of them. His wife left him a week ago.
Alejandro Betancourt Lopez (Mexico )
The lady is hugging the policeman because the cop probably did something good for her and she is grateful
Alara Ozdogan (Texas)
In this photograph taken by Ben Stansall/Agence France-Presse, there is a woman reaching for a hug with a police officer. The woman looks to be wearing festival clothing, seen by her neon crop top. The smiling police officer is holding a map, maybe to help people around him find their way around a town. In the background, people are smiling and hugging each other. Because of the map, the woman's grateful smile, and the police officer's smiling face, I believe that they are in a time of happiness and possible at a parade or festival.
Esteban G (Guadalajara)
I think that in this picture there is a festival in the streets, what I see that makes me say this is that there are a lot of people and I can see that most of them are smiling, I can also see that the cops are happy so that makes me think that there is not any problem going on. Something that I can also see is that the cop is holding a map in his hand.
Maritza (Guadalajara, Jalisco)
I think this is a woman at a parade at London. I'm guessing this by the amount of people. I think they know each other by the way they are hugging each other, I don´t think a police man would allow a stranger to do so.
Julieta V. (Mexico)
I think this picture was taken in England because of the police's uniforms are different. I do not think this is a protest because everyone seems to be happy, maybe there is an event. I can see the policeman is married, maybe to her. Or maybe the lady is just grateful for something and that is why she is giving him a hug.
Savannah H. (SMS)
I think the lady loves police officers, and she hugs them. The police look surprised when this lady came up, and hugged him. The state I think they are in is New York. I think that she is at a concert, because there is a lot of people, and the officers are there to watch, and keep people safe.
cassiousak (juneau)
In this picture there is some kind of a rally, I can tell by the way they are dressed they are in the U.K, I say this because there are a ton of people standing around watching the police or listening to them, I think the police officer ad his wife are kissing to show diversity and love to the people.
annay vargas (HHS )
I agree with this person because there does seem to be a rally because of all the people there. Also, the cop seems to be too close with the lady so I do agree that they are married or have some sort of relationship.
Renee Weinstein (Buffalo Grove, Illinios)
LA3 Mods 19-21 There is a woman that looks like she is hitting on a cop. There is also another cop that looks like he is enjoying the sight of the girl and the guy. It seems like they are in a public place and it is very crowded. The cop getting hit on is smiling and has a map in hand. It also looks like the cop is enjoying himself and the woman is enjoying it too. The crowd behind them seems happy as well. It is a gathering of people, maybe a protest?
Aubrey AK (juneau alaska)
From the looks of the picture there is possibly a parade happening and every ones happy and smiling. I don't think it a negative protest or anything like that because the lady is smiling and giving the cop a hug and both cops are smiling. Its either a very peaceful protest or a parade. There is there three cops there and nobody had a problem with the cops being there.
Amalia Espino (elk grove)
I think the women is getting married with the officer and she is so happy and the officer. I think this is why the women is hugging him cause they are happy or maybe they are flirting to be together and the officer in the back is looking at them and i think its at a place that is around a park to be together and hangout cause he is working but she wants to see him so thats what i think
Alexis AK,JDHS (AK)
i can assume something major is going on as there are a lot of people there , and since its focusing on the two officers, and ones holding a map it maybe new construction or something that the lady having her arms around his neck may like, they either are guarding something that the public may want to get in on as officers generally guard things or keep eyes on things.
Adam (JDHS)
I think that in this picture there is some kind of public event or protest and the police are needed for protection/to maintain anything, and that the supposed event and similar locations are marked on the map the first officer is holding. There is also a woman who appears to be charming that officer, she is probably apart of, or partaking in, the event. The second officer is simply smiling and watching, I don't know why he is in a different uniform though, he could also possibly be a security guard or something.
Joselyn (hinkley )
I agree with this statement, but I would also add that the woman is trying to stop the officer from doing something, like distracting him. This also looks like this is happening during the present, this might be happening in some part of England since the uniform the cop is wearing and it seems to be there. The hat on the officer has a star on it, it's not from her.
Tristan Bryant (Juneau Alaska)
it mite be a peaceful protest because there is no swat team and everyone is not mad and it mite be placed in london because how they are dressd
Festus (Juneau AK)
I think this photo takes place in the U.K because of the way the police are dress, I think there is a celebration or a gathering of some sort and that might have something to do with love or peace and that's why everyone seems to be in a good mood.
DJ Norment (Hinkley High)
I agree with this comment because from looking at the people in the background I can tell that the this is a celebration of some sort. I wonder what the celebration is about? Is it for some type of holiday in the UK or is it just an annual thing?
Itzel A (Hinkley High School)
I agree with you. I agree the way that the cops are dressed does show that they are in England, because they have helmets on and no caps. This does seem to be an event of some sort, because some of the people in the background are taking pictures.
Amanda Quintana (Hinkley )
I agree because it looks like they are happy there is no harmful things happened to no one it looks like a peaceful day.
Mrs. Lang (South River, NJ)
We notice that there are two English police officers in a crowd at what looks like an event. One is holding a map. He is being hugged by a woman who may be wearing a tee shirt from the event. She looks very grateful, maybe he helped her (possibly with the map).
Khasmine (HinkleyHS)
I agree, it's probably an event, because all of the people in the background and multiple cops too.
Azariah Hines (hinkley high school )
i agree with you, the women looks very grateful and the officer seems to be very helpful.
mabel (Hinkley)
I agree with your statement. I say this because they way the woman is hugging him and smiling.
Mia Ak (Juneau)
I believe the cop and the left is helping the nice women find places around town. I believe this because the cop has a map in his hand. The cop and the right is seeing what is going on behind him how his partner and the lady might have a thing after this.
Vanessa (Hinkley )
i agree with you because you have evidence and i didn't notice that the police man had a map in his hand and that shows that you pay attention to detail
joseph jd (juneau)
this is in the u.k from the look of the cop. the cop have a map so i think she asked him were somthing was and he told her and she was very happy so she huged him. it happen when there a event going on

these cops are telling everyone that we don't kill black people and we are frandly and they arast the bad guys.
Oscar Gutierrez (HHS)
I agree with you these cops can be showing that all lives matter. The cop and the lady appear to be married. This is a beautiful sight to see.
Oliver Villena (Hinkley High School)
I don't think this is the case because there are a lot of people around and the cops seem like they are helping out others find directions or anything else around the city because one of the police officers is holding a map.
Rogelio Guterrez (Hinkley High School)
I agree because everyone in the picture looks happy
Jason (JD)
In this picture, you can see that the officer on the left has a ring on and the woman looks like they are about to kiss so I'm thinking they're in some kind of public gathering. Looking at the hat on the officer to the right, you can see he has crown on it indicating that they're in England.
Antonio L. (Hinkley High School)
I agree with this because they are clearly in England and are both smiling.
Diego (Hinkley High School)
I agree with you and to add on, they might me married and the women might be congratulating her husband or really happy to see him because she might've not seen her in a while

Thank you everyone for joining this morning’s discussion! I saw a terrific amount of dialogue happening as people responded to others’ opinions in very thoughtful ways - I heard comments that agreed while providing extra evidence, and I heard comments that respectfully disagreed as well. There was also a lot of careful examination of this image going on - I noticed lots of people looking closely at details in the foreground and background, and inferences being made off these observations. Thank you for all spending time in front of this image together. I will be signing off now, but keep looking at the picture and responding to each other. And don’t forget to tune in Thursday for even more information about the image. We will see you again next Monday for another discussion of What's Going On in This Picture. Thanks again, everyone!

I see a women that is smiling at the police and the other officer is looking in their direction it state against state and the other officer is not smiling he's mad at them for embracing each other with beautiful smiles and being sweet to one another
Caleb (stewert middle)
In this picture I see people are happy because of a party in the street or these two gentlemen just saved someone. Could this lady be this guy's wife or is she just giving him a kiss and a hug for all the support he does in the street. Being a policeman helping to save the world and make is safe from bad things and people who were about to use weapons or bombs. They were glad they did not use them because if they did it would have been a bad day for everyone. How does this make me feel? A little bit weird because she looks like she is in her 40s and he is 30 something. Them hugging and almost looking like someone is going to make a move. People don't want to see that; well at least some people don't others think people kissing is amazing.
jada (california)
In the picture i think the girl is hugging the police just to be nice a thank him and the other police man is looking around and the people in the back round are just walking by and i think there in london or england because the clothes they are wearing and the building around them and the name of the police man is spell diffrent than english and the girl is wearing wierd looking clothes
Ryan (Elk grove )
i think there in the park i see tree in the background and people on the street the police is looking at the anther police.
Reese (Califorina)
I see 2 police man 1 of them is about to hug a women. And the 2 police guy is looking pass them or at them i don't know but it will be weird looking at people in a creepy way. Where this might be proably in England or Italy why cause the police man is wearing weird hats. And the officer is holding a map in his hand.

I think the man and the woman are married because they look like they are about to kiss. The woman and the man are smiling at each other. I think that they are in England because of there clothes. In the background their is a woman holding a baby and she is going to take a picture. I know they are police officer because of there clothes. Their is a building in the background.
Brandon (california)
I think this is at England because how their hats are. I think that women is hugging that officer because they are a couple. see a lot of people in the background so i think its like a parade or something.
Andrew (california)
I see a woman hugging an officer. I think this is in london because the cops outfit. I feel like the cop saved her. I think the cop saved her from a robbery . And that's why she is hugging the cop.
Edgar (Hinkley High School)
It can be a possibility, maybe a terrible event happened that might've involved a lot of people.
Max (California)
I think the officer that's looking behind him and smiling is looking at the other officer. I think it's because he's happy that the other officer did something good for the woman that has her arms around the officer's neck. The officer is holding a map probably finding the situation where the crowd is. Maybe something bad happened which also might explain the woman embracing the officer because she was in trouble in that situation and was saved. I think that happened in England due to the uniform the officer is wearing.
Vincent (elk grove)
In this picture there is a police and a woman and the woman is hugging the police officer and there in Italy or England. It is a march in the town.
Malachi (JKMS)
i think that the women is married to the cop and the other cop is look at them because he wants to know what´s going on
Anthony (elkgrove)
I think the women was in trob saw the he saved her. I think they are marrdy. I think they like eachother. I think they just meat. I think she is in troble.
lillian (elk grove)
i think that this was taken in England because of there uniforms. also i think they re in some kind of march because of all the people in the background and all the cops. the offecer has a map in his hand maybe to lead the march. the girl looks like she is going to kiss the man. the other cop is looking pass them. in the picture i can see four cops in the background.
Brianna C. (Stewart Middle School)
In this picture I think this woman is married to the police officer. I also think the girl is flirting with the police officer and is making him embarrassed because he's looking at her like she is crazy. The other policeman is looking at them as well and he looks a little disturbed. I think they are at an event that takes place in a popular city. Many people are probably thinking this is inappropriate and they need to stop so he can do his job and focus on what the is suppose to be doing. The police officer that is looking at the girl has a map in his hand so he could be guiding her to a place that she doesn't know where it is.
Cyrus Chazarreta (Elk Grove.CA)
Some sort of event that has to do with peace is going on, It could be a peace parade. The lady is hugging the police officer, she is showing that she is part of the event and grateful for the police to be there to help keep the peace. The lady is a strong believer in what the event is demonstrating. It seems to be taking place in a British country due to the police officers uniform.
Eliscia (Ca)
I think the lady and the man may be together because of the way they are looking at each other. I think she has a ring on her finger. Or maybe he saved her and she is really happy there are lots of people in the background. Maybe something like a car show or something like that was going on to. It looks like there are a lot of police there to so maybe so kind of event. Cause at events they always have police just in case something happens.
C.M. Stern (NYC)
The 3 people in the foreground seem to know each other quite well. Everyone else's attention is elsewhere, and you can't embrace a cop you don't know, too dangerous for the officer. They're not in the USA, cause the cops have those "bobby" caps. They could be like 3 of those outer space aliens in the men in black movies, just saying hi, great to see you in this faraway place, and glad someone (cops) is watching out for all of us (aliens). The way they are looking into each other's eyes while the third guy looks on suggests familiarity among the three of them. They've met each other before, I'm sure of it.
jamal (californa)
I think this is in london because the officers uniforms. I see a park in the back. One of the officers have a map. It looks like there is a perade. I see a old building in the back.
James (JKMS)
i think this is in loundon because the way the cop are dressed and the building and i think the cop and the woman are dating because the way she is looken at him and the cop is looken at here and the way their hunging
Sapphire Thompson (Houston, TX)
This picture shows two cops and a woman at a parade or festival. I think that this picture was taken in England because the policeman on the right’s hat is what police officers wear in England. Judging from the woman’s clothing and the surrounding crowds, they are probably at a celebration or party. However, as you can count four officers in the picture total (two in the foreground, two with hats in the background), there must be a risk something bad happening at this celebration. This photo was probably taken recently, as you can see a modern looking camera on the right and the headphones in the officer’s ears. Finally, when you see that the officer is holding a map and the woman is hugging him, one can think what the woman might be thanking the officer for helping her find her way.
Brandon (california)
I think they are in England because how the cops have there hats.
Jaeda (California)
I think a woman was saved by the cop and she was happy that she got saved
Don (sms)
What I think is going on in this picture is the lady was in a big crowd and she might have gotten attacked by a person for some reason or she might have gotten something stolen. The police officer stopped the person that either hurt her or has stolen something from her. She might have had a bunch to drink and she is drunk and didn't know the person was a police officer and decided to hug him.
Andrew (Toronto)
They are laughing at the fact that her bracelet got caught in his vest.
Chan (JKMS)
i think this is in england cuz if u look at the police hat u will see that u can see a crown for the queen
shyann (sms)
I think in this picture that maybe the woman was lost and the police officer had a map tracing where she has been so that he can see if he could find her. All of them found her and she is giving him a hug as a thank you for finding her and helping her get back home.
QuinnG (AOSE)
In this picture, there seems to be some sort of public gathering. I know this because there are three police officers who are probably trying to control the crowd. I think this takes place in a country outside of the United States. I can conclude this because the police officers' uniforms are different than those of the ones in America. For instance, the large hat on the man to the right is not something one might see in the States. There could be several explanations as to why the woman might be hugging the officer. I think that she was looking for some place, and asked the officer for directions. I think she is embracing him as a thank you. I know this because the officer is holding a map. This also seems like an awkward situation. I know this because the police officer who is standing next to the one being hugged is looking at him weirdly.
Blake (SMS)
In this picture, a woman who appears to be dressed in a festive outfit, was probably saved by the police officer or she is married to the police officer. The reason why I think this is, the woman is giving the police officer a hug.
Margo (SMS)
In this picture there is a police officer getting hugged by a woman and it looks like she is about to kiss him. Everyone in this picture is smiling, so this could be something very happy or just getting together for a thank you to all of the police. This could also be a concert and someone was not getting along with everyone and was trying to hurt people and the police saved her life and she is thanking him for it.The reason I say this is it could be a concert, because she has a lot of jewelry on and has nicer clothes on from what we can see. When people dress like she is, they usually are going out to have fun.
megan (sms)
In this picture it looks like the woman might be the police officer's wife or girlfriend. The police officer might have been talking to everyone because he has an ear piece in his ear. The picture might take place in England because the officer in the back has a round hat and mostly people from England wear those kinds of hats. The officer next to the girl and the police officer might be the guys friend because his smiling at them.
Jesse (Sms)
There is a police officer and a woman that is hugging him. She is wearing a neon green t shirt and it looks like they came back from a party or a festival and they are celebrating. The other police officer is looking at them very weird but he is also smiling. I think they are in London because of the police officer's hat.
Meghan (SMS)
In this picture there is a woman with her arms around a Police Officer. She is wearing a crop top and skinny jeans, and the Police Officer is wearing a normal officer uniform. I think she is thanking him for saving someone she know. Like a child, friend, another family member, maybe even her. Their are people around them who are taking pictures or videos.
Lilian (SMS)
I think the woman might be the police officer's girlfriend, I also think the woman might be pregnant and the officer just got the news. By the look on the officer's face I believe he is happy he is going to be a father.
JM (Los Angeles)
I think the woman was asking directions from the first policeman, who is holding a map. He helped her and she is hugging him because she is grateful for the help. The policeman in back is smiling because he likes seeing the friendliness being expressed.
Brianna C (AOSE)
In this picture, you can see women oddly close to a police officer. Because the police officers are smiling and so is the woman and the people behind them I do not think that this was a negative thing. I think that this is a parade of some sort where police are needed but they are not stressed or upset.
Ashten (SMS)
I think the officer saved the women and a lot of other people and she is grateful. I think this is why she is hugging him and other people are hugging each other. Maybe something bad happened and they are glad it's over. The officer is holding a map to get around town.
Meg (Texas)
A middle aged women is seen after embracing a smiling police officer. The officer behind him is grinning in the other officers direction meaning they are not worried about this women so I don’t think this is a protest. There are many people in the background taking pictures and smiling and laughing, and more police officers leading me to believe this is some sort of parade. All the spectators seem to be looking in one general direction (presumably at where the parade is happening). There are men and women, young and old all gathered here so I believe it is a national parade. The police officers uniforms look as if they are from the UK since there are english words on them and the uniforms match the ones from police in the UK. It is probably the summer because the spectators clothes are for hot weather and the photo was most likely taken within the last 5 years (the quality of the photo and the style of clothes).
Nathan (SMS)
I think that this police officer helped a woman find her way somewhere, because of the map in his hand. I also think that the officer to the right is looking at them weird because he helped too and he isn't getting a hug.
Lizzie (United States)
In this picture, a woman in bright clothing is hugging a man in a police officer’s uniform. Both are grinning at each other, and the other people in the background seem to be elated. This seems to be a public gathering of some kind, but in which people are excited (and not angry, as in many public demonstrations) so this must be a festival or some other event in which a city can gather together and have fun. The police officers’ uniforms are different from uniforms that American police officers wear; the hats remind me of British police officer uniforms. A woman is holding a digital camera and one of the police officers has a phone that looks like it is from the early 2000s, so this photo could be from years ago. As well, the police officers have their sleeves rolled up, so it could be a warm summer’s day. I think that a few years ago during some sort of festival or public gathering in the summer, many people gathered together for some fun in the sun; the man and the woman hugging seem to be having a laugh over a joke.
Craig (Detroit)
This looks like London where the police actually try to be friendly and helpful instead of looking for a reason to put someone in jail. In many countries this is not the case because the relationship between police and other people is ruled by fear, as is the case in the USA.
jordon (SMS)
I believe that the lady was or is going to a concert. Unfortunately, she got lost and she had to find someone to help her. The cop was willing to help her which made her happy and then she hugged him.
Will (SMS)
The woman is hugging the police officer, who appears to be holding a map in his hand. Maybe the policeman is helping them go somewhere or he is helping out with some kind of event that is going on. The woman looks happy to see him whatever they are doing.
brooke (SMS)
This picture is of a lady at a concert giving this police officer a hug after he let the girl in the concert for free. The lady is saying thank you to the police officer, and he appreciates her kindness. I can not explain why she is dressed the way she is, but all i know is that she is at a concert.
Haleigh (SMS)
This picture is showing a woman hugging a police officer. They both have a smile on their face, so they must both like it. But the police officer is in uniform and the lady seems to be wearing cut clothing that she made for summer. And it appears to be a nice day out because there are many people in this picture, and they seem to be having a good time because the guy, in between the police officer and the woman's face, is smiling. But this picture might have been taken right after a horrific accident or something and the police officer might have saved her life. That might be why she is hugging him and why they are both smiling at each other.
Hunter (SMS)
The police mans wife has come to meat him at work. He is holding a map because he had to meet her at a certain location. They are in England, and they are in huge crowds because they are near a shopping mall. They are going to get something to eat at the shopping mall for lunch.
Brandon (SMS)
The police officer has a map in his hands to help him and other people find their way around. The officer came to a festival and finds a woman doing something illegal. The officer marches over to the woman and tells her to stop what she is doing. The woman than listens to what he has to say and then puts her arms around the police officer like a leech stuck to someones body. Then the woman says," Is there anything I can do to fix this act?" The police officer then puts a smile on his face and says," Well maybe..."
gracie (sms )
According to my secret documentations, this photo was taken in the U.K. and it says here this woman is trying to flirt with this police officer. As you can she she is wearing a bright neon shirt that could probably blind you. That is why the police officer is smiling at her. Because she put a spell on him with her bright neon blinding shirt.

I think that a lady was going to a concert in the United Kingdom. The lady saw her husband and went to give him a big hug. After the lady hugged him, she went to watch the concert.
Brianna C (AOSE)
This is a very interesting outlook on the picture. What makes you think that it is a concert? And what clues led you to the United Kingdom?

In the photo I think that this is in the United Kingdom because of the kind of hats the police General/Officers are wearing also look british. she is about to kiss the lips of a old man and then they will get married.

In the picture, a lady is hugging a police officer because he saved her from being attacked. The bikini bottom strangler ran up behind her and was about to strangle her when this brave police officer apprehended the strangler. The grateful woman then hugged the brave officer while the bikini bottom strangler faced justice.
Sahil (NJ)
This looks like a a gathering of some sort. Not like a protest, but a group of people meeting together in a city. But I think that even though it is not a protest, violence started and police officers had to respond. I also think this is in London because of what the officers are wearing.

The officer seems to be holding a map and the lady is all sweaty. I really think that the officer told the lady directions so she could get back to her kids or back to her house. There is a lot of people here maybe the is a parade or something like that going on.

I believe there is some festival going on in this country. It is not in the United States because the policeman to the right seems to be wearing a British Policeman cap. The policeman to the left is holding a map, and the woman is wearing outdoor, party kind of clothing. I think they are married, and they just saw fireworks or something of the sort at this festival that made them really happy, especially since they witnessed it together. The lady is hugging her husband in the spirit of her joy.
Jamie (New Jersey)
In this picture I think that at a festival in Britain a woman is hugging a police officer while another man looks on.
Jordana (NJ)
In the picture it looks like they are in Britain having a celebration in the streets and the cop is dancing with his wife.

There was a community event going on, and the man and the woman ran into each other. They went to school together and have not seen each other since. She had to go so she gave him a hug bye.

I think this is in England I think because of the officers uniform.I think this is a interracial couple that has found each other after a tragedy that has happened.

In this picture I think that there is a peaceful rally or protest going on. I think this because there are police officers and a lot of people. The police officers are there to keep everyone safe and to prevent the rally from getting out of hand. I think this is a peaceful protest because the woman is giving the police officer a hug and everyone seems to be happy. I think the woman is thanking the officer for keeping the peace and for protecting everyone.
CiaraAOSE (New Jersy)
In this picture, a woman embraces a police officer while his colleague looks on. I believe this man and woman are a couple and are at an event together. I think it could be a parade because of the background of the picture, in which I see people outside of stores. I also believe this takes place in London because of the two police officers' uniforms. I am unable to read to words on their uniforms, but their uniforms and hats look like those of London policemen. Also, when I looked closer, I saw a map in one police officer's hand. This leads me to believe further that they are at a parade trying to find the route that the parade will take.
Nick (California)
In this photo, it looks like they're at a type of concert or some kind of march. But the cop and the women look like they're in love or had some type of love connection once before. It looks like the other cop is happy to see his friend with someone who makes him happy as well. It looks like it may be in the United Kingdom.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles, CA)
Welcome to this morning's discussion, @Nick. It sound like you're agreeing with @Chris and @CiaraAOSE that there might be an organized event here and that this might be in the U.K. You're also drawing our attention to the figures in the foreground, thinking they have a notable connection. What do you see that makes you say they might have a personal connection to each other?
Jacob Perez (Hinkley)
The officer is probably on duty and his wife is the one with her arms around him. the other officer looks behind him to see whats going on and then smiles at the sight.
Chris (San Mateo)
The people in the crowd all seem to be in a certain age group, 20s and 30s. The police officer being embraced is wearing a badge that says Metropolitan Police so the event is certainly in London. His map appears to have a route marked in red, perhaps the route of a march or marathon.
VTS Moderator (Los Angeles, CA)
Thanks for joining the conversation, @Chris! I hear you looking closely at the figures in this image, and you're determining the age of the figures in the background, as well as the specific, geographic location of this scene based on the uniforms of the figures in the foreground. You're guessing it's London! It also sounds like you're noting particular details on the map at the bottom of the picture that let you know this might be a carefully planned event. Keep up the close looking! What more can we find?
Chris (San Mateo)
From the expression on the policeman's face, I don't think he knows the woman embracing him.
Jayden Campos (Colorado)
they are in columbia and there is a seromony of some type to say thank you to there metropolitan police officers

We see a police person in Britain. We see a woman giving the other police person a hug. She might be his wife or the police person just helped her. For example, if she might have just had her purse stolen. We noticed that one of the police people has a map in their left hand.
Missy (SMS)
The police officer looks to be holding a map. The map may be for some event that is taking place here. Many people look to be watching something in the distance. These people may be at a concert and the officers are there to make sure nothing bad happens.
Jose (Hinkley High School)
I think she is appreciative with the police officer. This is happening in England because of the officers uniform.
Gisselle (hinkley high school)
I see that there are policemen while they are being surrounded by people.I think this must be a protest because they are only police when there is something happening I think this is happening in Colombia or some where out of the US.I think this could be happening in downtown. The clues I have are the back ground. This supports my claim because there are many people with buildings in the back.
