This article is really irresponsible for failing to emphasize compostable utensils and cups. Sure, the paper plates are to some extent, but even there, there are plenty of better alternatives, made out of corn instead of paper. Surely you and the majority of your readers should be beyond the notion that plastic is in any way good for the planet. When defining what is "expensive" most people now consider the environment as part of the equation.

Please don't encourage people to use disposable cups, plates and utensils! Most people have a dishwasher, so what is the problem? How many more photos of the plastic in the ocean do we need to see before we finally get it? IT'S US.

I understand wanting to keep the clean up to a minimum, but in this day and age when our oceans are becoming seas of plastic, would you please urge your readers to use re-usable rather than one-use items at their parties? Thanks. Deb Carlisle, PA

I can't believe that in the middle of this environmental catastrophe we are recommending plastic cutlery etc. Seriously?

I understand that this is a "soft" article that is connecting up with "Wireless" for reviews of products we should purchase, but if I had a choice between buying plastic cutlery - which is from oil which had to be extracted from the ground, shipped to a refinery, shaped, packaged, trucked to a store, bought, brought home, used once, thrown away, and then trucked to either a landfill or dumped into the ocean to collect in some teeming mass- and that metal fork from my silverware drawer, I'm going to wash that fork, thanks very much.

I’m so disappointed with the site’s encouragement to use disposable plates, cups and cutlery. Be more responsible! We don’t need more plastic trash.

Don’t forget to wear deodorant! link: Science Times article “Rats Don’t Like Cage Mates Who Refuse to Clean Themselves”, January 12, 2014

No. Please don't use disposables.

I am sad to see you recommend single-use disposable cups, plates and utensils for parties that are, for the most part, taking place in your readers' homes. Using plates, glasses and utensils that are washable (and will last for hundreds or thousands of uses), is the more economically and environmentally sustainable way to entertain. The convenience of avoiding one load of dishes comes at a cost!

The party tips seem like an encouragement to go out and buy things. The worst “smarter living” I have read.

I wish you would have recommended compostables over plastics for cutlery, cups and plates. It’s 2018.

Good ideas, except recommending the use of plastic. You don't have to take out the fine china, but using your everyday glasses and cutlery is better for the environment.
