I adored her crosswords and my mother is addicted. I've bought her every compilation book of Maura's puzzles and only wish there were more of them. That and that Maura was still alive and slaying with her wit and creativity.

It was wonderful to meet Ms. Jacobson many years ago at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. She was gracious when I introduced myself and told her I was an avid fan of her work. What a lovely lady!

Maura Jacobson created puzzles that were downright fun to solve. She had a clever mind and a smart sense of humor. I always looked forward with great anticipation to solve her creations.

Wow. I honestly don't know if I've ever run across one of her puzzles, but the way Will describes her, she sounds like another Merl Reagle. I need to find some of her stuff.

What a smart, cool woman. I have enjoyed her puzzles. Condolences to her family, and I'm so glad to have crossed paths with her (well—with her puzzles, that is!).

"Lust of the Mohicans", indeed! What a mind!

She was a crossword superstar indeed. May she rest in peace. My late mother was a huge fan of the Times' crossword puzzles. My siblings and I somewhat less obsessed but still attentive. Mom had a single Sunday puzzle published in the Times magazine. I remember the theme: Greek gods and goddesses. I cannot overestate how big a deal this was in our family. In my dotage, I do at least the mini every day.

If there really is a Mr. Happy Pencil then M.J. was Ms. Happy Pencil. Her puzzles were always "smiles" ahead of everyone else's. Some may miss her but many more will cherish the memory. May she rest in eternal peace at the corner of 1-A and 1-D.

Maura Jacobson, rest in peace. I loved her puzzles. Those were some impossible puns that she came up with, they were fantastic.
