Stephen Colbert Doesn’t Think Much of Al Franken’s Apologies

Colbert wasn't funny, either.

Franken’s stupid, vulgar behavior is in a difference category as Moore’s habitual pursuit of underage girls. It seems that everyone has gotten so het up about men overstepping boundaries that we’re conflating bad judgement with actual (alleged) crimes. That photo of Franken pretending to cop a feel of a woman *wearing a flak jacket* is disrespectful, sophomoric, and indicative of remarkably bad judgement. But he’s not molesting her. Grabbing her and “rehearsing” a stage kiss by jamming his tongue in her mouth? It’s disgusting, boorish behavior, and it’s harassment. But it was also the time for her to say, “Get your (blanking) toungue out of my mouth.” He wasn’t anyone who had any power over her career (per Weinstein, Louis C.K.). He was just another performer who happened to be a creep. I’m an older female who has lived through more abuse from men than I care to talk about here, so don’t think I am not on the side of women in this battle. It’s just that I’m growing very frustrated watching the accusations pile up. Some of them stink of politically motivated smear campaigns.

What a bunch of weasel cowards including Colbert, all Franken did was behave in a juvenile stupid way. No harm no foul. Definitely no assault, no harassment. Our country is turning into a pack of jerks. Especially the press, (sometimes it is too bad we can't say what we think here.) complete cowards and hypocrites. Perhaps Tweeden, Colbert, and members of the press deserve/need to experience what sexual assault really is.

Franken must resign but franken must resign but who in hades cares what Colbert thinks? Colbert is a pseudo intellectual and a smarmy one at that!

If the Senate wants to go after Franken, they need to do same for pedophile Roy Moore and serial harasser in chief, Trump.

I don’t think Franken’s behavior was ‘as bad’ or predatory like Moore’s, however - there is a disturbing thread going on in these comments: Let’s not confuse ‘biology’ with the right to abuse! As if biology is behind the right of men to make unwanted advances and to violate women. In this line of reasoning ‘biology’ would be an excuse for rapes, gang rapes etc. Let’s have this conversation with basic respect for human dignity. ‘Biology’ is the excuse which kept hundreds of millions of human beings enslaved for thousands of years – and which still keeps women and girls in regimes of extreme and brutal abuse. Let’s stop with these lame excuses - right now!

Of course men who seek popularity and power are also often serial abusers of women. They are needy. Why are we attracted to them? The difference is basically this, Democratic gropers grovel and apologize, while their Republican counterparts pray and deny. Still too early for post-patriarchal leadership?

Everyone knows that Sarah Silverman would be destroying a republican if they acted like Louis CK. She is distraught because she is forced to confront her hypocrisy, and no one is buying her act. She is a disgraceful hypocrite who enabled Louise CK because she herself was not hurt by it, which makes her just as bad as the people she criticizes. At long last, the liberal elite are being held accountable for the evil they commit!!!!

I agree, but why hold only the liberal elite accountable? The elite are just the one percent!!!! At long last, the liberal middle and lower classes are being held accountable for the evil THEY commit!!!! That's point of the tax plan!!!!

Colbert - you put Liar Sean Spicer at the oscars for a speech and a laugh. Now you throw a great senator under the bus for a staged photo. You are out of control too. Off to Jimmy Kimmel from now on! I used to agree with you but your ego has morphed into something ugly...

First of all, Colbert did not produce the awards show. Secondly, while I may think Spicer should have decided to leave his job long before he did (rather than lie for his boss), what he did is NOT the same as someone molesting someone else. Those things are not comparable.

Colbert says that Franken "intended to embarrass" Tweeden with that picture. She said the same thing. In truth neither of them know that was Franken's intention. My guess is he never had any intention of her seeing the photograph. But I don't know his intention, either.

While they may not be able to read Franken's mind, there is NO doubt that this would embarrass someone and a mature adult would know that. I have always liked Franken but that doesn't mean I condone his behavior.

Thanks for solidifying the reasons why I don't watch late night tv except for good old movies

And Predator Trump has the audacity to talk about Franken. You are both monsters. #PURGETHEPREDATORS

I notice that, while #45 spoke out against Franken, he has NOT made a statement about Roy Moore. Hypocrisy is wrong (no matter which party plays the game). I have always liked Franken and I am upset by this revelation. Still, I think we can all agree that, if we are comparing the severity of the circumstances molesting an harassing MANY underage girls is probably worse than what Franken did (assuming no other women come forward). This latest spate of sexual misconduct from all industries and organizations is very upsetting and while I am glad it is coming out in the open, I guess (as a woman who has been molested) I do not have high hopes that it will change anything. This type of behavior has been going on a long time and businesses and families tend to cover it up because the person is powerful or because they favor that person over the safety of others.
