...described the memorials as “surrogate graves for those who had died on foreign soil.”
I always though Memorial Day honored our deceased vets and Veterans Day honored our living ones.
You're correct.
From the In The News section: “To accommodate gender neutrality, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is urging its subway personnel to no longer address passengers as ‘ladies and gentlemen.’ “
tune of “Hey There” (a possible gender-neutral subway announcement version)
Hey there, you on this stalled number 4
Anyway you identify
Please stand clear of the door.
Hey there, you on this stopped subway ride,
We don’t note what your gender is
The info we’ll surrender is:
Better forget it -
Your schedule’s up in the air
We now announce inclusively
You’re late and we don’t care.
Are you husbands or wives, our sisters or our brothers?
For now, the M.T.A.’s more P.C.
We found gender neutrality
So please be who you want to be, you have your druthers!

WEATHERING ARCTIC FREEZE

Nor skin to turn deep blue,
And while Eskimos have no choice
That needn't apply to you
Or to shivering yours truly,
Which is why I'm sounding my tuba
In notes of impatient passion
As my plane approaches Aruba.

Thank you, Ms. Levine, for this thoughtful and sobering rememberance on our nation's Veterans -- too often forgotten in the rush and turmoil of today's world.
Whether living or deceased, we Americans owe them all a debt of gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

Armistice Day. That is what I will be celebrating: the end of war, and not the continuation of war that Veterans Day has become.
To honor a veteran try not using a CVS pharmacy. They do not accept Express Scripts, the military's pharmacy benefit. They claim that they do but then charge full price. They also claim that Express Scripts declined including them in their network. Bottom line, it's CVS's bottom line.

TriCare switched to Walgreens this year, CVS might say they take it but they certainly don’t. Also TriCare is always pushing harder for their home delivery prescription service to be the primary method of maintenance medication supply.
