Congratulations, Houston! The full 7 games you and the Los Angeles Dodgers played truly made watching baseball exciting again!

Yet another expression of the baseless as well as misguided fantasy that professional sports teams sunstantially enhance the life of the cities in which they are located: the assertion that a World Series title mitigates the personal and civic storm damages suffered is ridiculous.

I have family in Houston, they were lucky and their homes did not get flooded from Harvey, although it affected the workplaces of two of my family members. This World Series brought a lot of happiness and lifted spirits in Houston, for sure. It was also great watching for baseball fans everywhere. What an exciting match-up between two brilliant teams! Last year's WS between the Cubs and the Indians was great, but this one will remain one of my favorites, particularly the thrilling twists of games 2 and 5. Well done, Astros and Dodgers!

It's a placebo, but it can be a temporary effective one, as this article suggests. The underlying problems causing and caused by Hurricane Harvey will still remain and need to be dealt with. I had no skin in the game (the Dodgers broke my uncle's hearts when they left Brooklyn and I have no love for Texas and neither does the part of my family who unfortunately lives there) but I am happy that José Altuve (someone who I can almost see eye-to-eye with :) got the recognition he deserves. And kudos to Rabbi Amy Weiss who is actively doing tikkun olam.

So glad for Houston-! So needed. I loved the euphoria last year when the Cubs won. The election robbed everyone of the fun of bonding as a country- hope y’all get plenty of time to enjoy the win!

I now live in Australia but I grew up in Houston, with New Orleans, Paris, NYC and Montclair in between. I watched TV horrified as Harvey flooded neighborhoods I remember. As a kid, hurricanes were exciting and we never had such tragic damage. I donated and I kept track of recovery as best I could, with CNN and the New York Times. And then the Astros captured my imagination. Congratulations Houston! Remarkable. May your recovery and your win go hand in hand toward grace and better days. The world was watching.

Also a Houstonian...now living in LA. SO HAPPY for Houston with the Astros win. The folks there really deserved the lift that the win brings. Really, they are all winners...great Astro and Dodger players....baseball at its best.

Here's real collusion, look back on quid pro quo for the US government to allow MLB to skirt labor laws, hold cities hostage for funding, mirror race relations, distract the maybe voter, and to get that trophy to the city suffering from a disaster or attack. The fix has been in since 1945, perhaps earlier.

I like the co-author Manny Fernandez. Not sure if the line "the high-water marks that still stain walls and kitchens and cars and spirits" was his or Paul Debenedetto's, but whatever - it was a good one. If you liked this, the August 29 article by Mr. Fernandez about the flood rescues in Houston is worth reading. This guy can write.

Inspiring article, thank you! "It was a typical post-Harvey World Series watch party. Some of the guests set down their beers and helped carry panels of Sheetrock to the driveway, in the middle of the fifth inning." - Comparing this to our President tossing a few rolls of paper towels into a crowd tells me The People of Houston are REAL People (and News, too.)

Beautifully written story. This is exactly what the Houstonians need right now. The World Series win is a positive, unifying event...just what they needed after the tragedy of Hurricane Harvey. Congratulations to the Astros and to the people of Houston! Keep moving forward!

Thank you New York Times for a wonderfully written story, and the powerful narrative it paints of the heroic resilience of Houston, Gulf Coast Area residence to survive the devastation f Hurricane Harvey, as they cheered their heroic Houston Astros to a historic World Series victory. The Astros' World Series win over the L.A Dodgers was the perfect sports' metaphor that truly reflects the Astros' battle attitude to win, as their fighting spirit reflects the fighting spirit of Houston Gulf Coast residence to ultimately win over the battles to recover from Hurricane Harvey. We cheer our world champion heroes for the hope that their victory have given their fans; an thAt hope is intheit message to us: we will win our battles over Hurricane Harvey!
Terry (Kingwood)
The writer nailed it with the sentence about the talk of the Astros and Harvey, Altuve to Verlander to drywall to FEMA and back again. So true.

What an uplifting story, brought me so much joy! Thank you.

Beautifully written piece of journalism - I will be sharing this with my friends who are hurting after the Dodgers' loss. Failing New York Times? I think not.

A true shame that the most memorable moments of this series will be those involving Yuri Gurriel and his racist act. Postponing his suspension until next year gives permission to all players that they can get away with anything, no matter how disgusting, in big games. The only other explanation is that baseball’s commissioner was actually excited that the controversy might increase ratings, so he postponed the penalty.

This is the guy who shows up at the birthday party and says "If you pin the tail on the donkey, the donkey might get hurt."
Patti Bachrach (Houston)
I doubt that anyone who knows Yuli Gurriel believes he’s a racist but he did something very wrong for which he is being punished. The real shame here is that you are sitting in Virginia Beach making these comments on a story about suffering Houstonians and the joy and comfort Yuli and his teammates have brought to our city. Your comments belong on a different article and a different discussion. For now, my city is going to take a break from Harvey and enjoy this incredible moment. Thanks for your understanding.

Did you watch the Series? What about all the home runs? What about both teams "coming back" in some of the games just when we thought one team had already won the game? He will be nothing more than a footnote when historians write about this Series.

What a great thing to happen for a great people!
