Hail Austin and his run. We all know that bartenders can have wisdom, or knowledge, which is not a poor second.
Sean (Ft. Lee. N.J)
Snobby Austin Rogers critics prefer Charles Van Doren facsimile.
FWS (USA)
Calling him "self-absorbed" is 180 degrees off. This guy seems absorbed by life. No pretense. Smart, knows he is smart, not impressed with the fact that he is smart. Embodies fun. Those who couldn't even watch him, give yourself a little checkup. Trebek dug him, his opponents dug him, his reaction when the opponent bested him was instant and genuine delight. He gives a lesson on how to enjoy life.
HANK (Newark, DE)
When Austin was queried about his varied wardrobe completely from thrift shops, his reply was" "People on the Upper East Side'll give away completely good things, except healthcare apparently." An analogy so right on so many levels, especially yesterday.
Sean (Ft. Lee. N.J)
Ken Jennings should hoist a pint with Austin.
Janeva Erickson (Northern Minnesota)
Enjoyed Austin to the very end.so very knowledgeable and relaxed.a super great run.accepted defeat graciously
Sofedup (San Francisco, CA)
Austin was kooky, goofy and made Jeopardy fun to watch! Looking forward to his next appearance.
Fred Norman (Stockton CA)
I watched Jeopardy until that very annoying person was defeated. I can imagine how he bored his clients in his bartending role.
Karla Decker (Victoria BC)
Geez, a bit of a wet blanket, aren't we.
Warren Bobrow (El Mundo)
That’s the difference between west coast bars and east coast ones. ‘Nuff said.
Const (NY)
For me, Austin was a chance to escape for a half hour from the depressing times we live in. Natural disasters, never ending gun violence and our deeply divided country have made this a morose time. Austin and his antics was a refreshing balm. Thank you Austin.
Josh (Berkeley)
Don’t sleep too long, Austin. Given the current public attention span, by Monday you will officially be a non-celebrity like the rest of us and your fan base will desert you for the next quirky bartender.
Steven Levy (Arlington, VA)
A terrific player! I enjoyed watching him on the show and even though I will miss seeing him, I am looking forward to his appearnace in the the upcoming Tournament of Champions. He richly deserved a place in the tournament. Who knows, perhaps he will go all the way!
Jim (MA)
We looked forward to watching him in our household and found him rather entertaining and silly, lighthearted yet super smart. My kids especially enjoyed his response when Alex asked him how he got so intelligent, was it school? NAWW! he replied (he said instead it was genetics and karma). Good luck Mr. Rogers and thanks for all of the fish!

My cable TV provider has been in a monthlong spat with a local station that airs “Jeopardy!”, so I’ve been in the dark — literally — about the phenom Austin Rogers, except from what I’ve heard and read. Typically, over-the-top-behaving contrstants annoy the life out of me, but he seems to be truiy self-effacing and delightful. Congrats, sir, on a great run. Sorry I missed it. I’d love to play trivia with you any day of the week.

Missed last night due to football which is broadcast locally but had been a fan of Austin and his quixotic persona and nimble mind...cool to see he and friends celebrated....and that he did so well....hope he is wise about the $$ because when he gets older he might need it...
Ellsea (PDX)
Well done Austin! I loved watching him on the show. I imagine that if I was ever on the show. I'd be so nervous that I'd have total brain freeze. His presence on the show reminded me and others that it really is just a game, have fun!
CJ13 (California)
Yech!
Jcaz (Arizona)
Why do I see an SNL cameo in his future?
N.Smith (New York City)
Sorry. This is one story I completely missed out on. Guess I was too busy watching and waiting for World War lll to begin...
Eileen (Forest Hills, NY)
I'll never pronounce "sherbet" the same.
Majortrout (Montreal)
I watched the last episode and somehow I think that the questions may not have been so random. Jeopardy had one whole column of questions on Tennessee, and coincidently the new winner happened to be from that state. She answered the whole column of questions. Perhaps I'm just chasing windmills, and the Tennessee column was just coincidental. However, not to diminish the capability of the new winner, she was exceptionally smart!
MDB (Indiana)
This happens occasionally. I don’t know how far in advance they load categories, given that they tape a week’s worth of shows in a day and obviously can’t tell who will advance from one game to the next. But, if they know going into a game that a contestant may have an edge, I would think they’d try to make a quick switch. It comes down to how quickly you buzz in anyway, so if the other two players are faster, specific knowledge may not make a difference.
HSW (Wilmington, NC)
I thought he was great fun to watch, and my husband even watched with me because of him. I'd love to have him on my trivia team!
bikemom1056 (Los Angeles CA)
Great fun? Is that what self absorbed is called nowadays when up is down is the new standard?
Matt (Connecticut)
A "favorite?" Hardly. We stopped watching Jeopardy the further he stayed on. The affectations of his hand movements and facial expressions were annoying. We'd partially watch the show after he first started winning, but by this week, we'd switch in for final Jeopardy. Last night we didn't watch at all until our step-daughter texted that he lost. I switched to the ABC affiliate, which airs the show :30 to a minute later than ABC in NYC, to watch the end showing the winner. As they say, we can now return to our regularly scheduled programming. I have heard from an old friend who lives in the area of the bar that he has stopped by and Mr. Austin isn't that bad. It maybe true but once a camera is on, he is repellant.
Karla Decker (Victoria BC)
Hmm, many here don't appear to be repelled...
Pamela (NYC)
How refreshing to read about a good guy! Congratulations Austin. You make NYers proud!
Nick (NYC)
“I’m a bartender, so when I wake up during the day — if I wake up — my inner monologue is, ‘What do I want to learn about today?’” Is this really a classic characteristic of bartenders?
BigFootMN (Minneapolis)
It may not be true of most bartenders, but this one graduated from Macalaster College in St. Paul, MN with a major in History (good for Jeopardy) and a minor (almost a second major) in music (also very good for Jeopardy). And who is to say that a bartender isn't inquisitive about the world? They often meet and converse with some very interesting people.
Karla Decker (Victoria BC)
No it isn't. That added to the charm, I thought.
Warren Bobrow (El Mundo)
Those of us who actually enjoy being bartenders that is.
Queens Grl (NYC)
I have seen hate pages on FB for Austin. I watch Jeopardy all the time and truly enjoyed his tenure. The miming of making drinks and his dig at the UES made me laugh out loud. congrats on a huge win Austin we'll see you on the Tournament of Champions!!!
Barbara (New York)
What fun it was to watch Austin on Jeopardy! Thanks, Austin!
Kayleigh73 (Raleigh)
I'm so glad he's gone. His "cute" mannerisms detracted from the game; they made it all about him rather than the competition.
Ted Morton (Ann Arbor, MI)
I've watched every episode to follow Austin's progress; not only was he an intelligent and skilled player but his slightly cocky charm came over in spades. Definitely someone I'd like to have a beer or 3 with.
Maryjane (ny, ny)
Good for this guy on his win, but I strongly disagree that he was in any way a fan favorite. I watch the show regularly and I could not be happier that he is gone. He talked over Alex and his wild gesticulating was distracting and extremely annoying. Now I can go back to enjoying one of my favorite shows again.
Dan (Alexandria)
For those of us who record Jeopardy for later viewing, it would have been nice to have a spoiler alert.
Bill Johnson (Va.)
Very cool
Freddie (New York NY)
In warm, sincere tribute: Tune of the "Final Jeopardy" think music: (in honor of Austin Rogers) Austin Rogers hems and haws Not sure what he'll do with all that money Now it seems that we’re all on pause Waiting for him to decide. But he studied the weird tax laws And found out that life’s not quite that sunny So for now he’ll tend bar because Uncle Sam won’t let him slide. (hmm, hmm)
Martha (NY, NY)
Yay, Freddie! I especially liked the (hmm, hmm). the piece de resistance.
LS (NYC)
See CityLab article that Uber contributes to increased traffic congestion
trblmkr (NYC)
Endearing? Personally, I found Rogers insufferable.
Ben (Florida)
We will see Austin again soon during the Tournament of Champions. He was a great trivia champion and he deserves to be there.
darleneb (RI)
I would love to see Austin as the host of Jeopardy when Alex Trebek retires!
Vivien Hessel (California)
At first,he was mildly annoying but he grew on me. So much fun to watch him and he was so gracious to the lady who beat the pants off him.
Shawn's Mom (NJ)
Austin was smart, personable, and gracious in defeat. A great representative for New York!
