Worry not about climate change. All things are possible.

Have always found this process rather bizarre - killing off rats to favour tree lobsters .... There is this thing called evolution. Species rise, species fall. So what is this attempt to freeze one tiny corner of the natural world in a random moment of evolutionary time? And - unless you can completely eradicate rats on the island, it is simply a temporarary "fix". The real problem, of course, are humans .... spreading and promulgating uncontrolled everywhere ....

interesting read. one wonders, though, what other species besides rats might dine on the poison laced cereal.

Don't let Trump know where the tree lobster lives. He'll issue an executive order killing it.

As a part time resident of Ball's Pyramid, I have mixed emotions about this article. I hope that it does not result in a horde of people seeking ever more nouveau cuisine descending on the Pyramid. The stick insects do not taste like lobster, or even chicken. They taste like burned tires.

I love this obscure diversity! We need to appreciate all forms of life! Thank you

A marvelous article, I truly value these science articles and send notices of them to friends all the time. Me, I am now a stick insect fan.

I learned about these guys from a popular NPR piece several years ago. It’s a fantastic read. http://www.npr.org/sections/krulwich/2012/02/24/147367644/six-legged-gia... As a million people have already said, “Life finds a way.”

I saved Krulwich's story years ago and cried when I heard it on the radio. Almost all destruction of the plants and animals in the world is caused by human greed and thoughtlessness. Its amazing that these stick insects survived on that barren island for decades with hardly anything to sustain them.
