NY Times - How about an article detailing traffic closures due to the triathalon? And that West Side bus service is re-routed and halted north-south at 72nd Street.
So people who need to use bus mass transit are really trapped...

Cheers to this family that works so hard together. Wishing them great luck!

Tune of “But They’re Cousins, Identical Cousins” (Patty Duke Show theme)

Here’s Doug who flew in from way out west
And Malcolm who rides bikes with zest
And Calvin’s fine at any sport
While Greg will lend some great support
Every one’s the best

And they’re brothers
The Sigelbaum brothers and their dad
Most strain they’ve ever been through
Most fun they’ve ever had

The father can ace a mile-long swim
Past fifty, he’s kept fit and trim
For biking, Malcolm’s number one
And Calvin’s having lots of fun - second’s fine with him

And they’re brothers
The Sigelbaum brothers and their dad
For Doug, the run ain’t all that hard
But watch for Greg, the wild card - a determined lad
Triathletes
Whose chances ain’t bad

Running on the West Side Highway seems dangerous to me

I love this morning briefing especially at the end of the article , telling us about old New York . Its great to read about NY Trivia.
New York is filled with fascinating stories. Add more good news please.

Thank goodness, it's Friday. A day of easy decisions.
Will the Rockaways survive another Hurricane Sandy? ... NO!
Is Sheldon Silver still guilty? ... Yes.
Have a nice weekend! --

Thank you for today's "And Finally", a brief but informative timeline of our nation's early capital history. I certainly did not know of the additional importance of Fraunces Tavern in the governing of our country beyond the meetings that led to the Constitution.

And if you ever visit New York, be sure to stop by the Tavern which serves as both a Museum, and food locale.
Plus the food's pretty good ... just be sure to make a Reservation first.

FAIR IN SUMMER

When all is said
And finally done
A day at the beach
Is far from fun.

Skin burned red,
Temp at a summit,
Spirits sink,
Then plummet.

O for eyes
Not aquamarine,
Hair that lacks
A ginger sheen.

Summer's victim
Prays for a hint o'
The swift arrival
Of an early winter.

One of Sunday's Yankees games, likely the day game, is a make-up of the April 25 Yanks/Sox rainout. Double the fun

COKES & CANAPES

The fat of the land
Can be traced right back
To sugar and cheese
Consumed by the sack.

Coke & Kraft,
Winking their eyes,
Claim the fault's
Lack of exercise!

But it's proven true
In nutritional galleries
That facts are facts
And calories are calories.

So excited and proud of my brother and my nephews.
Go team Sigelbaum!

This may have been too long and space-consuming when I submitted earlier, so a condensed take:

hi, Freddie,

sometimes I blink a minute until I recognize the song you are referencing. that just happened (my daughter would tease if she saw) then, I remembered!! The Patty Duke Show :)

it's fun to smile, whistle, tap my toes & have this song dancing around my head.

Thank you. Happy Friday to you.
Alex Kent (Westchester)
Great story, but I'm curious about the mother.
Doug Sigelbaum (San Francisco)
She cycles and runs but is not too keen on the swim!
Billy from Brooklyn (Hudson Valley, NY)
Triathlon participants amaze me. I have run many marathons (years ago) but see running and swimming as completely different skills. The marathon running took all of my efforts and the training took almost all of my free time. Plus I'm Irish, and we often do not take to water/do not float. And this does not even address all those miles on a bike!

My hat is off to anyone who can perform al three, and at great distances. That is quite an accomplishment.

Neither of the two current locations of the Second Avenue Deli are actually on Second Avenue. (They're on First Ave and on 33rd St.)
