Trump Mocks Mika Brzezinski; Says She Was ‘Bleeding Badly From a Face-Lift’

Stop being surprised or distracted, Trump is as base a clown as ever there was. Dedicate yourself to the following
1. that he and his program must be resisted (protest, complain loudly to his political enablers, support legal action against him and his program), 2. He and his enablers must replaced (vote, support opposing candidates with money and/or your volunteer time)
3. the damage to our country must ultimately be repaired.
For now 1. and 2. should be our focus, there will be plenty of time for 3. if we succeed with 1. and 2.
Eugene Gorrin (Union, NJ)
Wow, health care, tax reform, infrastructure, immigration, trade, the economy, foreign affairs and national security.

And all President Trump can focus on playing with his fingers and tweeting over every slight. What a thin-skin our president has!

Perhaps someone in the White House can go on amazon.com and purchase him a fidget-spinner for $9.99. Maybe it will help him focus and concentrate on doing something constructive.
Linda Galindo (Half Moon Bay, CA)
I think the news conferences to criticize this obviously dumb behavior need to be used to say "Stop tweeting. Now, here is our agenda for healthcare. Here is our agenda for jobs. Here is our agenda for climate change. Etc." He's handing leaders one opportunity after another inform forward and all we hear is reaction after. Refuse to engage and use every opportunity to tell us what you are for and how you will be accountable for it. Give the press something to cover like "rare sighting of accountability" and the difference it is making. You could drive a fleet of trucks through the opening being given over and over.

Should Trump be impeached and sent packing we will have Pence, who will not eat alone with a woman(en) if one is not his wife, Pence who will not go where alcohol is served unless his wife is along.

Woman, thy name is temptation, thy aim is sin.

Can anyone imagine President Obama doing this?

No, neither can I.

Several Trump supporters have said the President has the right to push back when he is insulted. But that is absolutely wrong thinking on their part.
The president above all should restrain himself and maintain his dignity no matter how he is criticized. To stoop to playground 12 years old rules demeans him and his office. It is HE not the critics who must remain calm, in control and set a professional example. No, the president should never push back in the disgusting way Trump does. It cheapens him, his stature and his office.
RH (San Diego)
In short, Trump is sick..both mentally and with his obsession that he is somehow better than the rest of us..He needs to be replaced immediately.

I only hope those people who concur do not visit his properties..and short or long as his stature is in the WhiteHouse...he leaves much "poorer" than when he came in...and the Trump name is synonymous with what is bad about America.
nataan (nyc)
In fact, what's bleeding badly is the esteem in which, apparently, so many voters once held him.
Either that, or our own sense of decency is bleeding badly.

As an American residing overseas, I must inform you Mr. Trump that contrary to what you believe everybody is laughing at you, and even worst, everybody is laughing even lauder at all of those who voted for you. Went from being praised by everybody for our great statesman to you...
Johanna Clearfield (Brooklyn)
While the entire political world is up in arms about Trump's sexist tweets, his administration is undoing and demolishing most - if not all -- of the clean air and clean water protections which over time our country has finally embraced. I wonder how much Trump commits these petty acts of torture on women as an effective diversion from what we all should truly be having a revolt over -- the destruction of our democracy to favor corporate profits. Please! @johannaclear
Shelley Gordon (San Francisco)
If Donald Trump were the CEO of a company he would have been fired long ago for incompetence, if not inappropriate behavior. It is embarrassing to me to have him representing our country. It is frightening to me that he and his party hold as much power as they do.
DK (CA)
I cannot understand how anyone with a modicum of intelligence and some reasonable moral standards can possibly stoop to defend Trump's behaviour. Is it for money? Power? Ms. Sanders should be ashamed of herself. How can she look herself (or her children, if she has any) in the face? She is acting like a fool and a sycophant.
Just remember: you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. (With apologies to all dogs, who on the whole are better people than the incompetent, thoroughly nasty, bully currently occupying the Oval Office.)
Flak Catcher (New Hampshire)
I've read, heard, seen enough.
Impeach Trump.

Trump and Twitter
A terrible team.
When they're together,
I want to scream!
Knian (Brooklyn)
If all these elected representatives who rushed out to condemn Trump’s tweets were honrable, honest , and acting on behalf of the people, I would have understood their anger.
But these are a set of crooked, rotten, thieving, deceiving, lying, treasonous elected representatives who are all involved in all sorts of NON-PROFIT’ organizations, and are all in collusion with private contractors to pilfer and plunder the treasury.
And instead of acting on behalf of the people of the United States of America, they act on behalf of crooks who run ‘NON-PROFIT’ ORGANIZATIONS and private contractors in order to profiteer whereby they thieve to such abstruse and obscene extent that the country continues to fall behind in everything because all government projects and undertakings cost 10 to 30 times free market value.
Consequently our infrastructure and education system are crumbling while China brings up their modern railway service to 24,000 miles of super fast rail, builds quantum computers, and continue to export ever-improving goods to the world market.
This crumbling of American Society is due to the grand thievery by these same elected representatives who continue to sabotage their own country all in the name of greed.
Here we have evil doers trying to preach ‘Do Good’ while they themselves practice ‘ Total Evil’.
How dishonest, how contemptuous, how treasonous, these thieves that condemns Trump

Anyone ever catch the episode of the Andy Griffith Show where Andy and Barney tried to turn Ernest T Bass into proper society?? Still busting windows with rocks. Except that was funny.

Certainly glad the Republicans claim him!

Time for trump to go!
Soroor (USA)
How about a men's march where they demand that Trump respects their mothers, sister, wives, daughters, friends, ... ? I.e. when he is in the public eye.
In private, if you choose to be around this man then you get what you deserve.
momomo (locomoco)
Um. Why is this drawing wide criticism and him insulting London's mayor didn't give us as much as a peep from the GOP? How do they stand to benefit by standing up for this newscaster? Or has Trump's approval ratings finally sunk low enough that they are allowed to criticize him on non policy matters. If that's the case, expect Trump to lash out and the party will start eating itself.
S B Lewis (Lewis Family Farm Essex New York)
It's simple. Our president has serious issues with women. The family situation emerges in such behavior. Unresolved Oedipal, a brother of that died an alcoholic, a sister serving as a federal judge. Kids react to their fathers and mothers. When this area shows in the 70 year old, it's all too clear. To affect control of the teen, he was placed in a military academy. Typically, that fails.

We see when a woman he finds attractive is not submissive. Megyn Kelly, Mika Brzezinski, the braggadocio on groping - are suggestive. What issues the president must address is another matter. Bill Clinton, Nelson Rockefeller, Gary Hart, Jack and Teddy Kennedy, there are many. No two are the same.

Will a 70 year old master himself? Not without help.

I was asked by a best friend to intervene with President Clinton. I did so. When offered the opportunity, we met, talked, and I was direct. The reaction was swift. Denial comes fast, but that president knew where I was coming from, he felt my caring.

And he acted. Fighting with this president will not help. Challenging him will provoke what he cannot control. This is clear and this is troubling.

Men and women tend to kiss up when threatened by the powerful. The honest man will not do that.

Would this president have the strength to acknowledge what he needs from one offering? I believe he would....

And I think he will want his son to recognize this, very soon. If we are going to experience progress, it will come at home, first. I hope.
Observer (Backwoods California)
This article missed the most disturbing thing about this whole story.

The PRESIDENT had the National Enquirer stalk Joe and Mika and her family, including her teenage daughters. Then he, President of the United States, had his flunkies call Scarborough and tell him that the PRESIDENT would have the National Enquirer kill the story if Mika and Joe would apologize for the slights they have caused him.

The PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is using the NATIONAL ENQUIRER against his 'enemies.'

Somebody remind me, what was the institution of an Electoral College for?
marriea (Chicago, IL)
Either a person has class or not.
Trump for all of his reported wealth and status, clearly doesn't.
Maybe Trump thinks that money brings one respect or that since he reportedly has money, one should kowtow to him.
That ain't the way it works.
As president of these United States, Trump should be setting an example for all to follow.
Many wouldn't follow Trump to the toilet.
And for those who make excuses for him, I can only hope your kids aren't watching.
What do you want to be Billy, when you grow up[?
President Trump.
And then just wait for the school to call you daily about his or her conduct.
History is indeed going to have a field day with us.

Not sure if commenting upon the appearance of others when one bears more than a passing resemblance to an ill-inflated Spacehopper is particularly smart. Glass houses and stones and so on. Does he not have people employed to point this out to him?
Vidya (Washington dv)
This tweet episode seems like Trump trying to take media's eyes off the new Health bill so that the Republicans can pass it quietly and quickly behind the scenes without any details analyzed! No wonder there is "bi partisan" support for Mika's sake while they take away thousand's women's access to Healthcare.
Chico (New Hampshire)
What an image for the world and our future generations of children to know that their 71 year old President, is sitting around in his boxer shorts, in early morning hours with nothing better to do, than to be trolling a television morning show host about her looks and insulting her in the most vile way.
doug hill (norman, oklahoma)
People like Ms. Sanders are going to regret these temporary jobs for the rest of their lives. In the future they will curse the day they went to work for Trump.
Cigdem Shalikashvili (California)
Is it not yet clear to all that Trump cannot be allowed to make *any* executive decisions of any kind anymore? He is obviously dangerously unfit for the office. He can still be allowed to rant/tweet, if it keeps him occupied and out of the way, but all decisions of consequence *must* now be made by others.

Trump must be reduced to President-in-name-only. These outrages- of both political and personal nature- must be stopped.

I have respected Mika Brzezinski (and her father Zbigniew) for a long time She should feel proud of her role in this matter- *not* ashamed or humiliated in the slightest. Ms. Brzezinski didn't ask to become a target of Trump's sexist vulgarities, but this unprovoked verbal assault may end up doing America and the world a great deal of good.

Trump clearly must go- it is now only a matter of when the Republicans can bring themselves to admit the obvious. These particular tweets are particularly egregious examples of Trump's shameworthy behavior, another embarrassment to our nation, but they might ultimately serve a constructive purpose- assuming they will help wake up the country to Trump's utter lack of fitness for the presidency. If this incident helps speed along the 25th Amendment removal or impeachment, it may end up being a very positive event overall. We might be able to look back someday and say that the insult that these tweets brought upon Ms. Brzezinski and, by extension, all women (and men!) was a blessing in disguise.
rebecca212 (Seaside, California--formerly from NYC)
I ask myself the same questions every single day: What will it take to have him removed? If President Obama (or any other president) behaved like this, would it have gone on as long as it has? How much longer is it going to go on? Will this country survive? Why such hypocrisy?

So many questions. So much embarrassment. I don't understand much of anything any more.
Montreal Moe (West Park Quebec)
Reagan was the greatest disaster to hit America and 37 years of decreasing democracy and a widening inequality gap was not going to be repaired by tweaking. It certainly wasn't going to be repaired by the DNC and another Clinton.
Trump is what was needed he is the poster boy for unfettered Capitalism. He is doing a marvelous job. You don't fix 37 years of bad governance overnight and it is going to take four to eight years of Trump to bring the country back to 1773.
The Boston Tea Party was about a weak government and an all powerful corporation The East India Company whose tea was untaxed and dumped into Boston Harbour. The Irish started learning about the peasant genocide of 1845-1852 in the 1990s. America can be great again but it will need a Trump to bring Americans to where they again demand truth and justice.
Mark (Ohio)
Mika B. has been saying insulting things about Trump on an almost daily basis for the past year or more, but Mr.Trump gets fed up and fires back and the world is coming to an end.
alocksley (NYC)
In a civilized world, Twitter would shut down Trump's account for that statement. But in a civilized world Twitter could not exist because the point of it has become to anonymously shame and degrade people.

I know that many people of far less fame endure much worse on the cesspool that is Twitter. The world at large isn't there to help them thru that painful experience.

It's Twitter that I don't understand. What a cesspool. Does anyone think the founding fathers thought the First Amendment should protect this kind of behavior?
E. Henry Schoenberger (Shaker Hts. Ohio)
It is self-evident America has a President that is off the rails. There is a viable plausible way to correct everything wrong with 11/8. This is not about port v starboard, but about ship America, with a Putin compromised nut job at the helm, in a cockpit full of complicit treasonous (re: Richard Painter) collaborators on a dangerous and deadly wrong tack. Supreme Court Docket #16-1464 is the solution. And Americans must understand this is legally possible and get behind a rational logical geometrically UNPRECEDENTED legal way to rectify a geometrically unprecedented Cyber-attack invasion by a foreign hostile nation: https://www.supremecourt.gov/search.aspx?filename=/docketfiles/16-1464.htm
Kim Ziegelmayer (RI)
Well, one thing we can say about President Trump, with full certainty, is that he is a real class act.
Mary (Madison Wi)
Please move coverage of trump tweets to the back page of section A. We will know where to find them. They are intentional distractions to keep our attention away from the real work of the government, Trump Care and tax cuts for the rich.
jas2200 (Carlsbad, CA)
Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked how she would explain Trump's tweets to her children, and if she thought Trump was a role model for them. She replied that her faith taught her there is only one role model, referring to Jesus Christ. She also justified Trump's miserable tweets by saying the President was right to fight back when criticized. She (and Don and Melania) apparently missed the Sermon on the Mount:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well."

7,000 comments, and all but a handful mocking and insulting Trump worse than he insulted this Mika. And they say he's the one who shouldn't go around insulting others. What we have here are so many peas in a pod. Or is it just more of "do as I say, not as I do?"

Seriously, how can you expect the president to respect you when you are unwilling to respect him? You're like Mika and Joe: They don't respect him, and then get all insulted when he doesn't respect them back. Pfft! If you want respect, give it, because all I see here is people throwing more gas on the fire.
Duncan (Luanda, Angola)
When we were kids at school, as is normal, bullying was a daily ritual, both physical and with words. However, there was a saying that I remember to this day, namely 'sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me'.

These days, I try to not worry about what I cannot control.

Dear President Trump, if kids can learn to not worry about words and insults thrown at them, why can you not? You also cannot control most of the media, so why worry about it?
CEE (Wyoming)
This is what an entitled president looks like. Someone who is obsessed with his own image, and who has no concern for America except as it glorifies him. This is why parties need to play a strong role in candidate vetting and selection. This is why the Republicans need to step up for the republic.
It's not about him; it's not about one faction. It's about all of us; it's about having a future as America. HELP!!!
Bill M (California)
Why do we go on with such a crude figure as our President? It is not enough to point out his lack of social intelligence and decency as if that made any impression on the gentleman. We have a responsibility as citizens of the United States to remove this aberration from the Oval Office by impeachment, and to replace him by someone representative of our formerly much-loved democracy which has been made by him into something close to a laughing stock.
Anne (Honolulu)
I believe the Republican in Congress could put a stop to Trump's disgusting behavior if they got tough: Not going to the White House on buses when he beckons them over; declining his phone calls; stopping all hearings on his nominees, etc. Telling him they won't deal with him until he and his staff stop demeaning the office he holds might be the only thing that reins Trump in. We know the Republicans are expert at obstruction - let them use those skills for a good purpose for a change. This would show that the Republicans in fact repudiate Trump's vulgarity more than the current mild repudiations from all of them except a few like Senator Collins. And, in this vein, how about starting to circulate some names to replace him on the ticket in the next election? Do they really need such a loser as the head of the Republican party?
Andrew (New York)
And yet white women voted for him, and will probably do so again. What will it take?
Eddie (NYC)
I'm so disgusted with this guy already. When does it stop. Is there no relief?
Joe Gould (The Village)
What's surprising here?

The Joe/Mika team held Trump's hand before the election, each currying the other's favor. During the campaign, Trump revealed his misogyny, coarseness and lack of education; he's revealed them again and again since.

Joe/Mike began to criticize Trump, mildly, after the election, for whatever reason, but they are not the first 'friends' to criticize Trump publicly. Trump did not disappoint with
his reaction to the criticism: using a criminal standard (as Melania put it, '10 times' the force he received), he punched back. (BTW, self defense generally permits an equal force to repel an attack, with any greater force constituting a crime.) Trump has a history of turning on his 'friends' after he has used them up in his narcissistic way. He turned on Joe/Mika.

So? This country got what it elected. There is no surprise in Trump's behavior: it's generally criminal, it poses a serious danger to our country, and, as see here, causes damage to spectators en route to its fulfillment.

Yet, we should all be convinced by the media coverage leading up to the election, and know with certainty that the greatest danger we faced was from, well, Hillary's emails. Calm down, Joe/Mika. The greater threat was defeated in November 2016.
Ahmed (Des Moines, IA)
while everyone focused on these nasty tweets, his administration passes bills quietly....
Realist (Santa Monica, Ca)
How come no one asks Trump about his ratings anymore? I'd love to see his reaction to that one. If Mitch McConnell was a Democrat, the Republican party would be utterly discredited before this was over.
Pat (Charlottesville)
Exactly what has Melania done to stop cyber bullying?
michael car1. (NEW YORK, NY)
I don't think it is enough any longer dismiss this as "beneath the office" or to justify it as "Trump being Trump." A person in his position who (a) shows this kind of juvenile insecurity over such petty matters and (b) spits out such obvious falsehoods in retaliation lacks not just the judgment, not just the character but the basic level of mental health we must require of a president of the United States of America. This is not just embarrassing. It is dangerous.
Ray (Fort Mill, SC)
When is it going to be enough? What are we waiting for him to do next to convince some of the people that this man is mentally ill and has no business holding the highest office in the land? Put all the politics aside and look at him as a man. He is a horrible human being. If he were your child's school principal, a police officer, a military man, or held any other position of authority and trust, he wouldn't have lasted a week.
Christine C. Curtis (San Francisco)
Number One: We all have to stop dealing with an irrational man in a rational way. The rules don't apply to him.
Number two: Twitter should close his account, now.
James Ward (Richmond, Virginia)
If Trump can't stand the heat he should get out of the kitchen.
DaDa (Chicago)
We need to hold accountable all those Republicans who enabled this national embarrassment of a so-called president.
D I Francis (London)
Trump's language on state matters betrays a lack of intellectual energy and interest. Walls are going to be 'beautiful'. Health care bills are 'great' and then 'mean'. The cronies he appointes to 'deconstruct' government agencies are 'so smart'. There's no specific language - he can't be bothered. It's the personal animus; that's where his emotional and intellectual energy really lies. He'll run the verbal gamut on any woman who dares to question or criticise. They're not just 'dumb'; they're 'crazy' and 'old', they're 'bleeding' and 'desperate'. This is a man who's emotional and intellectual energy are not focused on anything outside himself, let alone the country. He calls Mika 'old', days after his seventieth... What is this person thinking? What were we thinking?
Mel (NJ)
It is time for Trump to stand in front of reporters himself and answer and justify. 1) why Mika is low IQ. 2) why he wrote she was bleeding. 3) where is the investigation of the 3 million illegal votes. 4) where is the video of 1000 Muslims in Jersey City? 5) proof that Ted Cruz' father was responsible for JFK death 6) will he submit to an independent psychiatric exam, now! And so much more.
Time for the 25th amendment, he has to be removed. He is insane.
Beverly Miller (<br/>)
Have you no decency, Sir?
Connor Dougherty (Denver, CO)
Seriously, how did this misogynistic, demented thug get elected? We need to investigate more than just Russian influence in our election process. We need to go back and examine the ballots of every state. If it is proven that the Electoral College functioned as it was designed, then we need to remove that process from our elections. In what other country would the votes of 2.9 million people be negated by some arcane finagling as ours is?
Loren Bartels (Tampa Florida)
Forget trying to change Trump. He has shown himself on multiple levels to be unfit for the office of POTUS. At some level, Congress needs to call his incompetence and take him out of office. Of pertinence, the term "high crimes and misdemeanors" is undefined. Congress gets to define it. THROW HIM OUT!!
Hudson Valley Girl (Rockland County, NY)
I can't even read this story. Why is it being covered? When will the press stop going down the Trump twitter rabbit hole? In the meantime, yesterday the dangerous voter fraud commission has asked every state for private voter file info. Why isn't that at the top of the page? Mika does not warrant front page attention. --nor do Trump's other tweets. Press ignore and focus on the bad stuff that bears disastrous consequences for our democracy.
JRB (California)
Trump is a reflection of the people who voted for him.
David Hoffman (Sherwood Forest. CA)
The defenders say fight fire with fire; punch 10x harder. If the last president had done that for each time he was called the N-word, every day, probably every hour, by his detractors and adversaries, there would have been a civil war. No, the Power, capital P of the Executive Branch and President is the perception that it is invulnerable to anything that does not hurt America. POTUS-SC weakens this by lashing out, like a wounded bear, demeaning the office and letting the world know he is vulnerable; so goes the presidency. Bad.
MKF (Bellaire, TX)
I just wonder when DT will realize he isn't in high school anymore. These little skiffs and slams and bullying, his obsession with image, his mean-spirited comments regarding women's looks, or anyone's looks, are so sophomoric they are embarrassing. The more he tries to harm others, the more it backfires on him, his administration supporting him, and his entire party. He humiliates himself rather than his victims. Surely his constituents and his backers are outraged by his behavior.
CrystalClear (Santa Barbara, CA)
So Mika calls him a "liar" and "mentally ill." Then he proceeds to demonstrate that she is not exaggerating.
MissouriMan (MO)
Its a furthering sign of his declining mental state, and his inane psychological problems. His is a personal low to have to resort to tirades of diatribe and berating exchanges to merely wake up each morning feeling good about himself. He knows of his own personal guilt and shame and alludes from such by pointing fatty fingers of blame at anyone he can single out.

It is the tail tale sign of his looking down his nose at people to make them feel lower than himself, and that is just publicly demeaning to no one other than himself. The cretins that enjoyed his mistreatment of Hillary during the campaign debates loved his lurking in the back ground and looking down his nose at her, calling her "an ugly woman" in public on national TV.

Never forget that the bullies on the school grounds are always surrounded by a cheering floating rotten minded mob of others who hurtle them on, prompting and promoting bullies to attack and continue. It is picturesque of Trump and the support group of citizens that carried him throughout the campaigns and into the presidency.

That dark hearted crowd exists throughout the school bully-days into adulthood, and is suppose to die out with maturity, but in some it seldom ever leaves through common sense mental growth. In trump it has stayed and stood as his dark power over those who oppose him. He only does it because there are still others out there who approve and applaud.
Chris (California)
Good God! He's 71 years old and president of the United States. He behaves like a petulant, vindictive, moody teenager. How on earth did this happen? How did the U.S. end up with this emotionally stunted narcissist in the Oval Office? I understand he does these tweets mostly to gin up his low-information voter base (who by the way, think it's great he does this).

As others have said, we should not allow ourselves to be distracted. From all the reporting, it is becoming increasingly clear top Trump campaign staff were colluding with Russians and others to hack private emails and throw the election to Trump.

Let us hope the investigation into criminal conduct continues and results in indictments and convictions. Let us hope the investigation ultimately brings down this charlatan president.
Joe Schmoe (Brooklyn)
Celebrities who have no business insulting people like Trump (e.g. not comedians, etc) are now getting a nasty dose of their own medicine. It's childish of Trump and something I don't endorse, but I could care less if actors, tv producers, and so on get their feelings hurt by these personal insults when they've been engaging in that same childish behavior up until now with impunity. In fact, I rather enjoy their comeuppance.
Pdg (Cleveland)
Loving the fat man trying to read some Rose Garden stuff someone gave him, and he's seeing for the first time. I'm just back from Europe. Hope the evident disrespect for him (and, unfortunately for our Country) becomes clear to the Saras and Kellys by next week. We'll get Pence, but can't go any lower in class. Has he no women around him?
Bob Swift (Moss Beach, CA)
We on the Left haven’t as yet made it sufficiently clear to the GOP that being deprived of fresh air, clean water, etc. must stop.

As of today I will no longer send or read Tweets. If enough people do this, Twitter share prices will drop; shareholders, Jack Dorsey (CEO of Twitter), and perhaps even some GOP senators will get the message.

Strike back! Sacrifice something you LIKE to get back things you NEED.
ARM (Deep South)
Please ask Bill Belichick to call the President and leave one message,

"Do your Job".
Mosside (Canada)
Take away his screen time!
Cynthia Kern (Pennsylvania)
Perhaps a special box on the last page for the crudities? Then we can reserve the rest of the paper for news. TV shows could run a simple sidebar that we could click on to "mute". Think about it.
Steve (Florida)
Speaking of bleeding, Donald Trump's brain (for lack of a better word) is constantly hemorrhaging. As an American I couldn't care less about that, except for the fact that the resultant blood flow usually comes out of his mouth. I wonder if a tourniquet would work...
CAMeyer (Montclair NJ)
Trump driving the liberal media crazy? Quite the contrary: Whenever Trump issues these ridiculous tweets, he hands the media (and comedians) low-cost content on a silver platter. Considering how long this story has been on top of the website and how many comments there are, it must be drawing clicks by million. It would be interesting to see a plot of website traffic over time with timings of select Trump tweets superimposed on it.
Over the years, I've heard a lot about what constitutes a real man. Courage to speak one's mind has generally meant taking a principled stand or telling the truth despite personal consequences. I don't recall insulting a woman's appearance on social media being cited as a mark of manhood.
Mark Hussey (Nyack Ny)
Comments similar to those that"nearly derailed his candidacy "? In what universe? Trump is supported by millions of people who think whatever comes out of that sad excuse for a human being is just fine. Trump's vile attitudes and frat boy mentality are hardly out of the mainstream.
beaujames (Portland, OR)
Rebuke, reschmuke. It is time for the GOP to realize that they are riding on the back of a tiger and it's time to find a way to get off. I just don't understand why they don't. After all, from the point of view of the policies they espouse, the successor is much more reliable and compliant. 25th Amendment time.
S.H. (Pennsylvania)
We all know that if our first black president would have made such a remark there would be a call for impeachment! Why the double standard? All Mr. Trump gets is a slap on the hand, and his followers find a reason to support his repulsive behavior!
white tea drinker (marin county)
If only this were the actual darkest before we finally see dawn
mak (Syracuse,NY)
And where is Mike Pence on this kind of behavior?
Scott (Right Here, On The Left)
It's so ironic: Trump has all the money he would ever need to satisfy all of his desires and whims for the next many generations; he is reasonably healthy; he is of at least average intelligence; and apart from his hair, he is at least normal in appearance. And he has the reins of the most visible, most powerful office on earth.

Despite all this, he uses his time to publicly belittle a TV personality. And he this reveals himself to be petty, vindictive and small-minded. The man is apparently very unhappy with himself and he seems to direct his self-hatred at others.

It is so much like a Greek myth: he has everything a reasonable person could want to be happy, and yet he is miserable. It really is a tragedy.
Gabi (California)
The president of the United States has a huge problem with women, bleeding or not. What a joke. This weird "presidency", too, shall pass - some day. Despicable guys like Trump, Ryan, O'Connell cannot survive. They will suffocate in the evil they instigated.
Lynn Blake (Atlanta GA)
In terms of moral behavior while in the White House, compared to Kennedy and Clinton, Trump is a choirboy. Not a tu quoque defense of his behavior, just stating a fact for consideration by the outraged with selective memories.
M. A. Russell (Stamford, CT)
Sarah Huckabee Sanders' comments suggesting the rebuke was "deserved" is nearly as alarming as the tweets themselves. Since when in America does the President have the authority to bring down anyone who is critical of him? Especially with such unintelligent comments? He's playing from the Putin playbook and his staff is defending it. If we don't stop this NOW we'll slowly get used to it. This can't be allowed to become the "norm."
Leo (Left coast)
Watching Sanders defending this vicious attack reminded me of a battered woman in the hospital defending the man who beat her to the police. "It's not his fault...he was unfairly provoked")

For her to suggest that this is what the American public wants in a president is beyond belief.
Mike P (AThens, GA)
We'd be terrified if Vladimir Putin, or any other leader of a major nuclear-armed nation, acted like this. And rightly so. It is important we understand the history of impeachment and the 25th Amendment, but the nation survives because its Constitution can adapt to face the dangers of the times without altering our fundamental system of checks and balances. We must do something before other nations decide they must do it for us.
Cindy-L (Woodside, CA)
Trump is nothing if not entertaining. Getting over 7175 comments on a newspaper article about his tweet shows that the public definitely finds them interesting and worthy of comment. In California when one wants to starts a conversation with an acquaintance Trump is a good topic to pick. Although there are many that would like to see Trump impeached Pence would be a dull replacement. The policies of Pence would be equally if not more damaging and he would definitely be a more boring topic of conversation.
Michael T Bucci (Damariscotta, ME USA)
Following the latest Donald J. Trump’s Twitter tsunami, the proverbial scolding from GOP influentials commenced. Sen. Susan Collins quipped, “This has to stop...”

But will it?

President Donald J. Trump cannot stop if his mental state prohibits it. I believe he is very seriously ill with what mental professionals have observed for over one year: NPD. He has been and will continue to be a destructive force to the nation and to the world unless Congress intervenes.

What constitutes “enough is enough”? Will the Republican Party merely “scold him” if he shoots someone on Fifth Ave., or in the Oval Office? Or if he launches a limited-nuclear war to divert attention from any number of committee probes that inch closer to proving “high crimes and misdemeanor”, “obstruction of justice”, violation of the emoluments clause, etc.? When will Congress admit he isn’t going to stop?

America has become a different nation since January 20, and is undergoing unprecedented trauma, as is the world. Mr. Trump’s mental condition has been, is, and will continue to be a danger to America and the world.

It is time for Congress to pursue the Twenty-Fifth Amendment.
Brian (CT)
Has it occurred to anyone that the attention he draws with this idiocy doesn't actually stop the train of bad policy from running?
N.Smith (New York City)
Most anyone who has been conscious for the past five months, is already keenly aware of that.
anneinc (New York)
Count the days people, count the days....can't come soon enough.
Randy Liss (Oceanside)
Rebuked? So what? He will continue to behave this way. Nothing will change. The Republicans in Congress will scold him at best. Trump's base likes his depraved behavior. No news really.
Brian Crittenden (Florida)
Where did he learn this from the Putin dis-information model or the WWE. It is almost like he is trying to be the villain wrestler that tries to make everyone hate him so there are more ticket sales to see the guy in the white trunks beat him to a pulp. He does not dignify the office and must go.
Cherish animals (Earth)
He's behaving like any other self-centered human with a fragile ego.
Steve (Washington, DC)
It is a sorry, sorry day in the history of the United States of America when the President of our country acts in such a pathetic, immature, bizarre, petulant way. This is the "leader of the free world"?????? Whatever world he lives in is hardly free. It is a prisoner of and ruled by immaturity, narcissism. sociopathy, vindictiveness, and that is just for starters. My child, who is now an adult, never acted this way and never will act this way. She is far too civilized and mature for that kind of despicable, loathsome, behavior. The President of the United States ought to be as civilized and as mature as is my daughter. Sad to say, he was not, is not, and never will be. He acts like a dockside bully and has the thought processes to match. He is an embarrassment to civilized, decent human being s everywhere, and to the United States of America in particular. He has no shame. And that itself is a shame too.
Lynnette (TX)
Some of the congressional remarks about Trump's disgusting comment were so watered down in choice of words as to seem only halfway disapproving. At least one person triaged it, considering it inconsequential to wreaking havoc on the healthcare bill though she said to be voting against healthcare legislation. So many words without reaching the nugget of truth.

Several people condemned Trump's comment with a lot of 'not's followed by a positive word, such as 'not appropriate', 'not what I would expect from a man in office'.

The Republicans have gotten their money back from Trump, being lifted into the majority in congress and into the presidency because of his so-called charismatic character. Now they don't need him anymore and don't need to keep him as an adorable pet with vicious tendencies.

Really, Trump's remark smacked of latent violence. You could really be bleeding, he means, but the un-politically correct president is too politically correct to say that. His remark exemplifies his resort to violence to handle frustration and to intimidate competitors. That could go very far.
Jimmy (NJ)
Trump is a cyberbully who pretends he's the President. He probably also pretends he's a cowboy and an astronaut sometimes. Unless North Korea gives up their nuclear program, they will face his nasty tweets.
Walman (California)
Who cares? I don't. What these people have called President Trump pales in comparison. They seem to be able to dish it out but they can't take it.
Ed (Washington DC)
Many folks, including Capitol Hill lawmakers, are suggesting that from this day forward the American public (or at least, those from the press, lawmakers, and elected and appointed officials) simply ignore Trump's tweets from this day forward.

The problem with this approach is the President uses his Tweets as official responses to subpoenas for documents and other materials. The Trump administration noted that Trump's one line tweet response to the Mueller request for any tapes taken in the oval office was in fact the only response it would make to this request.

So....the press, and ultimately, we ourselves, are forced to be reviewers of these obnoxious, disgusting tweets as 'news' on the front page of our newspapers...even if we don't care at all what Trump's motives are associated with the tweet.
blue_sky_ca (El Centro, CA)
The press covering facts is not defamation. I have seen many segments of Joe and Mika's program and have not once seen them cover anything that didn't center around facts.
It should be uncomfortable for this president's supporters to know that there are many truly ugly facts about him, his family and administration. The press is not making this stuff up. It is not fiction, and it needs to be reported. The American people deserve to know the truth.
It's important to note that CNN stated that they were not retracting the content of the story based on one anonymous source, although it did not meet their standards and the people responsible for it were let go.
Meanwhile, the president lies, defames, insults, bullies, give out secrets to foreigners, excludes and defames the American press, and this is just the beginning of the travesties. He also is undermining public education, taking away protections for the environment, food safety, and public lands. I'm just getting started.

I didn't vote for Trump and as disturbed about this controversy and all things Trump as anyone else. All the criticisms of Trump are accurate and I am in full agreement. However, we fail to think through why he is in office.

We fear being at a major event, a crowded place ,i.e football or baseball game and a suicide bomb kills hundreds, maims thousands. Anyone with this fear is labeled a bigot while not recognizing a hateful element of primeval doctrine is often practiced. We don't want them and how many suicide bombs will it take before people wake up.

Of course, reason 2, Trump is President the employee plant closings that have gone over a century now remain inadequately addressed. The solutions to this are difficult, the causes glossed over and the country, many communities and people have been devastated.

Has anyone would heard of : 1)identify the root causes(i.e. the problems); study best practices and formulate solutions. The politicians are as superficial as the people who elect them.
Malcom Wy (New York)
Trump's spokespeople and public apologists are really building powerhouse resumes. Post-Trump (cannot come too soon), they will have so many great options defending the likes of chemical weapons manufacturers, international arms dealers, and genocidal dictators. Nobody can say they haven't been tested.

To preserve this democracy the Republican party must remove this president - I see no other hope for the future of this country and possibly the world - this pathetic egomaniac of a president could move humanity into a dark age at the push of a button.

WHY are people acting surprised?
What has been going on is a contest to see who can grab more media eyeballs and the winner is still winning. The more he wins the more we click on his tweets and he keeps on winning and even we are tired of winning he is just going to keep on winning.

3.5 years. Dear Lord, do not add another hear to our suffering.

I often post various political and social news on my own FB page, and will add my own comments/thoughts. However, if someone publicly disagrees with me on FB, and things can quickly turn emotional/personal, I delete the entire conversation, choosing not to engage in discourse on a public forum such as FB, where some people use it as a platform to 'publicly argue' with others, to show how 'smart' they are, etc. I simply have no interest in such juvenile, public bickering and one-upping.

It should be the same with all those who fall victim to Trump's tweets. Why on earth would anyone with any sense bother engaging him, and on social media? It's pointless, and only brings the person down to Trump's same level. Best to just ignore him.
James (San Clemente, CA)
Trump has clearly been suffering from a mental and physical decline over the past couple of years. Just check pictures of him in 2014 and videos of him speaking, and you will see a startling difference between then and now. He is also engaging in erratic behavior that is unworthy of the Presidency. I am beginning to wonder whether the President will be able to complete his term.
N.Smith (New York City)
The question is: Did you or anyone else who voted for him think about that before voting for him?
Italophile (New York)
I appreciate the decency of those Republicans in congress who criticized Trump's latest vile tweet, but what are we to make of all those who did not? Are the majority of Republicans okay with this behavior? I guess if they are comfortable with discriminating against people based on religion, with wrenching children from their immigrant parents, with passing on a damaged planet to their grandchildren, or with denying medical care to millions of Americans, they are not going to object to cruelty expressed only in words.
John (Ohio)
Many of Trump's tweets are tantamount to indecent exposure of his mind.

The media could agree that all Trump tweets which are germane in their entirety to governance continue to be reported upon publication. All other Trump tweets would be reported in a batch at 4 am ET Sunday.

This would be a start to imposing focus and discipline on someone who is deficient in both.
Meredith (New York)
The number of comments ---7139 as of 254pm Friday----this must be a record. It's a vote against the American Tsar Trump right now.

See Frank Rich article NY Magazine:
"Trump, Nixon, and How a Presidency Ends. Just Wait
Watergate didn’t become Watergate overnight, either."

Rich was on Msnbc The Last Word thursday talking about this.
Virginia Povall (Bridgeport)
I'm confused. If this behavior was happening in a publicly held company the CEO would be fired. Why is his behavior being allowed in government?
Bill (Burke, Virginia)
Trump's hard-core supporters love this. They think it's funny, and this is their idea of flouting political correctness. This kind of talk solidifies his base. And he desperately needs them because most everyone else is melting away.

So these remarks are actually helpful to him.
JN (Atlanta)
I tend to agree. The fallout may work more against the mass media than Trump. All parties should end the charade.
1truenorth (Bronxville, NY 10708)
Wrong, Bill. I voted for Trump (I'm an independent) and find his tweets to be childish and hurtful. The really sad thing going on is how (just look at the number of comments-7,140 and counting) all of this NONSENSE is derailing us from the many critical issues facing our country.
jules (California)
Very true Bill. They love vulgar reality shows, and Trump is their top-rated reality show.
Liz Wagner (CO)
People are criticizing Morning Joe for being gossipy. I think MJ does a good job on giving the news and giving their opinions on the news. It's a balance act but if there aren't shows that talk about how awful Trump is, I might start normalizing his behavior. I don't want that to be the new normal. His behavior absolutely needs to be condemned, and an opinion morning show is a great stage for that.
Kevin (Northport NY)
We don't need a daily "leak" from a patriot who sees the need to inform the people of the truth, when Donald Trump himself provides all the evidence that is needed for the first-time-in-history determination that the President is unfit and a danger to the nation and is immediately removed from office.

Trump is a despicable individual and I cannot understand how any female could support him. He's crass, gross, juvenile and generally disgusting. No wonder Melania never smiles (anyone notice that? she never smiles). I'm embarrassed by him and that he represents my country.
Gabrielle Rose (Philadelphia, PA)
Women in certain cohorts around the country are used to racism and misogynism and will laugh as much as men at these comments. The men degrade the women, invalidate them, and contradict them nonstop, even their own mothers. They're in insular communities, based on family and perhaps ethnic ties. My former in-laws were from a community like this and I was shocked when I was first introduced to them. I saw them before the election and was shocked again by their support of Trump then and now. I couldn't believe anyone I knew could actually support them. I personally think it's a combination of Trump's crudeness and misogynism against Hillary that drives this.
Lazza May (London)
You may be alarmed to learn that according to a recent study, women in the US are (and you'll laugh at this one) actually more misogynistic than men!

What else has he really done?

The business of America is business. The business of MSNBC is delivering eyeballs to its sponsors. I was just wondering what MSNBC paid Mr Trump for his Thursday morning tweets.
Laurent Mazzotti (Los Angeles, CA)
No matter how unpresidential Trump is.. No matter how scandalous and outrageous his behaviour is.. No matter how damaging to America the "President"'s administration is.. this is just another proof that the GOP will stop at nothing to pursue their personal agenda! THIS MADNESS HAS TO STOP!!
Eelco Hoenselaar (Gouda, The Netherlands)
Let's be honest here. This will change absolutely nothing.
* There will be 5 minutes of public outcry from the Republicans.
* The Republicans will continue to support Trump.
* His supporter base absolutely loves these tweets.
* This reveals nothing about Trump that everybody didn't already know.
We've seen this so many times before. Just add it to the many disparaging tweets, audio tapes, and comments during and after debates.

President Barrack Obama was about "Yes we can!"
Donald Trump is about "Oh no you didn't!"
Nat Ehrlich (Ann Arbor)
Neuroscience has established that repeated action of any kind lays down an immutable architecture in the brain.
Donald Trump has been harboring the same attitudes and expressions and behaviors for the majority of his 8+ decades of existence. He is not able to change his behavior. He is the same person he way yesterday, last week, last month, last year, last decade.
Apparently, as his spokeswoman said yesterday, he was elected because of who he is now, and was during the campaign - a "fighter", one who is unhindered by an addiction to telling the truth and simply relishes 'tough' phrases, to men as well as women. He'd like to punch Bloomberg in the face (and probably hasn't been in a fistfight his entire life).
He cheats at golf: that to me is intolerable! But I didn't vote for him, I voted against him, for Clinton.
So he's my President, but not my choice or responsibility.

Thankfully we have term limits for the office of President.

Now, how do we get term limits for members of Congress?
blue_sky_ca (El Centro, CA)
Agreed. And then get rid of the electoral college and make people's votes really count. No wonder millions don't bother. This last election, I (and the majority of the people in California) might as well have stayed home.

And, dare we omit:
Mrs. Kuchner
Mrs. Flynn

blue_sky_ca (El Centro, CA)
No thoughts or outrage from these people mean they are OK with this kind of rhetoric. Where are we as a society? Where is our moral compass?
Jim Mueller (California)
Doesn't everyone in government and media deserve a good personal dissing. That's why Trump got elected. He doesn't fool around with the usual Washington rational debate, he goes right for the gut. His body may have been born in New York, but his character is right out of Kentucky.
J. (Ohio)
You insult me and every other person with roots in Kentucky by saying his character is out of Kentucky. My relatives wouldn't let anyone with such a vulgar, low character into their homes, much less the White House. It is one thing to be an alleged straight shooter. It is quite another to lie and slander as easily as he breathes.
N.Smith (New York City)
@J
Calm down. Most of us here in New York City aren't too pleased about being associated with Donald Trump, either.
Charley horse (Great Plains)
Thank you. I grew up in the beautiful state of KY, and much of my family still live there. They would feel the same as you do.

Mitt Romney was so right about this man.
N.Smith (New York City)
So was Hillary Clinton...and don't forget, he STILL has the nuclear codes.
William LeGro (Los Angeles)
Yeah, this says much about the man's juvenile behavior and sociopathy. But let's not forget that he represents the 63 million Americans who voted for him and still support him. What does it say about them?

Their vote was inexcusable.
angel98 (nyc)
Surely front page news should be the two strict immigration bills that passed, Kate's law, the threat of a subpoena for Trump to get a definitive answer in writing on whether he has tapes instead of his disrespectful refer to twitter. An update on the Russian investigation. Medicaid, De Vos discarding effective college policies etc. etc.

I am sure there are many other things sliding by under the radar with this People Magazine presentation of infotainment as 'news'.
Observer (Backwoods California)
This is not the only thing on the front page. But I disagree with the premise that the mental stability of the President of the United States of America is not a serious issue for this country and for the world.
N. P. Sanders (Dallas Texas)
It was clear after he won the nomination --if not before-- that he did not comprehend the gravity of the office and that he was unstable. So Trump voters decided that his policies were what they needed and presidential integrity was not necessary? They didn't appear to understand that his erratic personality and character would negatively affect his ability to work with others, including Congress to get things done. Even putting the Russia thing aside for a moment (and that is a big one) this situation of an unhinged President is dangerous for our security domestically and internationally.

I bet there are only a few Trump Cabinet members who, in their short tenures, have not already contemplated resigning because they know he is unstable. If they were true patriots they would resign now en masse as a group, which would compel Congress to impeach. Trump has engaged in numerous, egregious acts of "conduct unbecoming" which are impeachable offenses under "High Crimes and Misdemeanors." Everyone please note the "high" in that phrase refers to the level of the office he holds. He is held to a HIGHER standard because he is in the HIGHEST office in the land. Why are we holding him to the LOWEST standards? It's unconstitutional for Trump not to have already been impeached months ago. Congress, Cabinet members, are you listening?
Alan Snipes (Chicago)
Apparently the 53% of white women who voted for him don't object to being demeaned.
blue_sky_ca (El Centro, CA)
Yes, this is tragic fact. It says a lot about our culture. Some women will put up with anything to be with a guy. I think some women just voted lock step with their husbands. Chattel, anyone?
rm (Ann Arbor)
Is there anyone who didn't instantly know that Trump's tweet about Mika was a crude fabrication?

Who didn't know that a woman still bleeding from face-lift surgery is not actually traipsing about, busily taking part in the night-life of of Palm Beach, three nights in a row?
N.Smith (New York City)
Get real. If such were s the case, we would've seen the photos by now.
CMH (Sedona, Arizona)
It's time to admit the country made a colossal mistake with this vicious, crude con man -- and impeach him. Just get rid of him. The situation is truly unprecedented in American history and calls for unprecedented action by the Congress. We've had enough.
Rachel (CT)
The problem is, we'd need to get rid of everyone from Pence on down who has done nothing but enable Trump's behaviors and actions whether through their statements or inaction. Some say that Pence would at least be a reasonable person should he have to replace an impeached Trump. But he and his fellow Republicans have said nothing while the country slides further into the abyss on any number of issues, from health care to climate change.
1truenorth (Bronxville, NY 10708)

Timit's (Pa)
"President Twit" happens to be a Bully with super powers. He could order any Citizen to be "indefinitely detained" under The War Powers act. Congress needs to stop runaway Executive assumptions of the power of all three branches.
Walrus Carpenter (Petaluma, CA)
Just remember Trump and co. just called for 32 million people to lose health insurance. The GOP are willing to put up with the childlike behavior if they can redistribute funds to the wealthy. The issue is more to do with McConnell and Ryan.
Abdussalam Kishmeri (Cambridge, MA)
Joe Scarborough is a republican and he was a house representative once. His show became very popular recently and I think Trump is afraid that many of his supporters are listening to him.
I think he started this low-level attack against him to create a personal feud, and hence Trump's supporters will think any criticisms of Trump that Joe & Mika make in the future will not be objective and will influenced by this feud
Chico (New Hampshire)
I not sure which is worse the original tweets by Donald Trump or todays doubling by other tweets and his spokespeople like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway.
Objectivist (Mass.)

How is anything like this, front page news, with so many other things going on in the world that are actually important ?

Trump forgot about it 30 seconds after sending his missive.

I think this is more a measure of the shallowness of the media than anything else.
d ascher (Boston, ma)
Because it is MORE evidence that the man is completely crazy, dishonest, petty, stupid, immature, and ignorant. "So's your mama" is about as sophisticated as this silly man can get. He is so stupid and ignorant that he is incapable of putting together a proper English sentence - or even a proper American sentence. People who continue to support him in the face of the mounting evidence of his incompetence, egomania, ignorance, and plain stupidity are going to be known as the "good Americans who did nothing to stop Der Trump" from some terrible and foolish action that seems to be just around the corner.
Todd (Los Angeles)
How interesting it is that you respond to something you consider to be so shallow and beneath you. Since you do believe there are more important issues in the world it would seem logical that you would want to know how a President spends his time in addressing them.
Rob M. (New York)
Donald Trump's frequent inappropriate behavior would have led to him being justifiably fired from most companies long ago.
Robert Kramer (Budapest)
"We are all more human than otherwise," said the psychiatrist Harry Stack Sullivan.

Both Mika and Donald are more human than otherwise.

But both hold enormous power, one in the space called MSNBC and the other in the space called The White House.

If Ms. Brzeszinski, calls the President of the United States "a liar" and "mentally ill," then why shouldn't the President feel hurt by these acts of bullying by a woman who holds great power as a TV host?

If it happened to me, I would feel insulted and find it hard to hold back.

Not because I am "infantile," but because I am human.
Tommy (Stamford)
I can not help you if you think the two are comparable. TV personality vs President of the US. If those two are the same to you, then you are beyond discussion.

But consider whether "liar" and "mentally ill" don't speak to the ability to do the job he has, and his performance in that job so far, and whether the personal attacks on her had anything to do with how she's doing her job.
Tashi (NY)
Please stop reporting on this stuff and focus more on reporting on the damage being done to the country by the policy decisions, current and future, in the different departments of the government - the election commission requests? DeVos not supporting civil rights issues facing schools? - it goes on. That's the stuff of substance that the media needs to focus on - the distraction with the tweets, and even parts of the Russian investigation, is throwing you off the very real ways this country is being slowly destroyed. FOCUS!
Paul (Seattle)
Most of the responses I've read see Trump's tweets at the very least in a negative light. But here and there folks are trying again to rationalize or minimize his behavior. While everyone puts their foot in their mouth at times and says embarrassing and/or offensive things. Politicians and other famous people are in the spot which magnify what they say and intensify their effects.

That said, considering Trump's personal history, almost inability to hold himself accountable when he acts poorly it appears that he has no sense of the gravity or the importance of the presidency. Therefore, comparing his actions to those of Democratic politicians or left-leaning pundits and their missteps is like comparing apples to oranges.
Stephen R Hill (Johnson City, NY)
Employ section 4 of the 25th amendment.
Johannes van der Sluijs (You're not from hearrr, are you boy?)
In an earlier draft of this article Mika Brzezinski was reported to have to cope with recent tragedy in her family.

Trump must have learned about it and in cold, calculating troll psychopathy seen an opportunity to hurt a perceived enemy already wounded.

Christine Matthews, a Republican, said the president’s use of Twitter to target a prominent woman was particularly striking, noting that he had used only one derogatory word — “psycho” — to describe the show’s other co-host, Joe Scarborough, and the remainder (...) to hit upon (Mika with) damaging stereotypes of women.

Trump is clearly projecting his fear of how he very well knows he keeps exposing himself: as visibly dumb, crazy, psycho, old, unattractive and increasingly desperate.

As a result, he fights (Mika's lovely, impressive) fire with pathetic ire.

(Except for the old part) Trump his (younger) supporters must have recognized themselves or the men around them that they've grown accustomed to, confusing the recognition of custom with sympathy or adoration.

To fight Trump we must not fight fire, but the smoldering, gray ashes of dumb, crazy, psycho, old and unattractive despair that have descended upon the heartland of America.

Let's fight it with some passionate fire of smart, sound, young & old and irresistibly attractive hope for taking the country, earth and humanity back, coupled with the flame of knowledge about our own strength, that turns hope into strong belief into firmly knowing that we shall overcome.
frank monaco (Brooklyn NY)
Mr. Trump does not Repect the Office of the Presidency, So why should people respect him as President? He has shown he will dive Low to attack someone. It sure seems he has a problem with Women. What a shame to have this man in the Whitehouse!
Elizabeth (New York City)
How much does trump actually hate women is my question at this point. And what are these women (his daughter; the daughter of Huckabee) who defend his behavior, no matter how objectively heinous thinking about? Don't they know that their own children will either emulate trump or despise the women who did not, at the very least, protest his behavior.
Julia (Florida)
It is becoming more and more obvious that Trump is not a well man and therefore needs to be removed from office under the provisions of the 25th amendment.
Kareena (Florida)
Twitter needs to fire him for bullying. Besides, he is an embarrassment to the rest of us.
Ruiz (MD)
As a retired career officer in the US Army, I know firsthand how hard our men and women of the Armed Forces work while serving this country. While they train, day and night to hone their skills that keep us safe, their fearless commander in Chief is twitting stupidities to everyone he perceives as opposition. Rather than reading about the complex world around him, learning about the role America should be playing, learning history, military strategy, etc., he is playing on his computer like a teenager. I feel very sorry for all of us who have family members in the military thinking that their lives may be in the hands of this inept person. Where are the leaders from both Republican and Democratic parties? Where are the systems that are supposed to keep a mentally unstable person like this one from remaining in power? We are in for a very sad chapter in our history
Eric (Blume)
The last two lines here are hilarious.
Bill (Hells Kitchen, NYC)
Not sure which disappoints me more -- the immature behaviour of this man in the White House or the fact the Times thinks immature tweets are worthy of so much space on their front page and website. How about not covering the tweets from here on and focus on news instead of click-bait?
Don Brookhyser (Oregon)
Jan, it may be a lousy show, just as I respect some Fox News reporters and dismiss others, but she did not get "what she deserved." No one should be falsely demeaned and ridiculed for their IQ or appearance.
Marc Duhamel (Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada)
The clear and simple truth is that you, the NOT «fake news" media, should simply ignore these imbecile outbursts. Just like with a 10-year old narcissistic bully with a chip on his shoulder, please, just ignore him and focus on the policy, not the person behind. Let the public record speak. It is on Twitter for everyone with an internet access to see that this man, despite all that he has accomplished, is a buffoon. And as such, leave it to his peers, such as late night comedians Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers, and John Oliver, to respond appropriately to his taradiddles.
Tommy (Stamford)
Nope! You don't ignore the ravings of a mad man when he is PRESIDENT!
Bill (beverly, ma)
Besides the obvious vileness of the behavior, it sounds like very short sighted business practice to be twittering the personal details of your clients lives. Would you want to stay at mar-a largo and end up in his twitter feed?
Q (Omaha, NE)
Before attacking other people's looks, perhaps he should take a good look at his own face first.
Raul Hernandez (Santa Barbara, California)
Trump is mentally unstable and a danger to the United States and the free world.
The Brzezinski Twitter post is a symptom of his mental illness.
His recent "repeal and replace" Twitter message is a hateful and vindictive move because Trumpcare is very unpopular.
Also, the Russian investigation is taking its toll on Trump.
SP (San Jose)
Haven't we seen this sub rated movie before; in fact right before the elections and this disgrace of a man still got elected president. Evidently, folks in the midwest still believed that Hillary was worse. There can be all the outrage but it doesn't matter if there are no consequences. In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve.
sherry steiker (centennial, CO)
By the way, Noone bleeds badly from a facelift, not a major point but the lies are ridiculous, he has issues with women and bleeding..
fyrfighter (cali)
i still believe in michelle's "when they go low, we go high", but its wearing thin. maybe we should take a page from the bully's caustic labelling techniques he's so fond of.....how about piggy don? or puffy sarah? sickly sean? drunken steve? ( does ANYone in that cadre look remotely healthy?) what about spineless paul and chinless mitch? yeah guys, if you dont call out a bully and hide behind him, youre just as bad. btw, how ironic to sling arrows at mika, when PD's wife and daughter have had more work done on them than a rusted '67 VW......but at least they have grace and class and who cares about cosmetic surgery anyway? meanwhile stop the distraction and write your senators protesting the biggest tax relief plan to the wealthy in US history
James Osborne (Albany New York)
Trump is so disgusting it's beyond credibility. I can only imagine what Ronald Reagan, a man of honor, would have done. At the very least, taken that man-child to the woodshed.
Joseph M (Chapel Hill, NC)
I really believe the presidential race was another version of "The Apprentice" for the President and being the narcissist he is he has come to realize that this is a job he really does not want but he is not sure how to recuse himself and save face. JM2C.
sammy zoso (Chicago)
Trump's getting a good laugh out of this one. He plays the media like a fiddle and they love it - good for clicks and impressions and therefore digital ad sales. Don't recall people getting so worked up about any of the long list of mass shootings or health care for that matter. Too boring I guess.
pnp (USA)
You all voted him in knowing what his behavior was since day one.
And now your crying in your soup about his actions via twitter, etc?
Everyone knew he had/ has a vulgar mouth with knee jerk reactions and if called on the carpet to account for those actions, he or his puppets will deflect the issue with oh, HC did this or Obama did that, etc.
trump will NEVER change, sincerely apologize or take responsibility for his actions, that includes his supporters, GOP and the politicians that elected him.
Unless the Democrats or other political parties can find a human to run for office that can change the minds of trump supporters and value all voters, not just white men christians, then this vulgar white male will occupy the office of the president for 4 more years - deal with it and stop complaining.
KBO (Chevy Chase)
This is not front page news. Relegate it to some remote spot in the Times. Treat it like the distraction it is, and focus on the news of events that make a difference.
KHW (Seattle)
Where is Melania in all of this? She stated that one of her main causes as she began to be first lady was to deal with the cyber bullying that has permeated our society. So? Where is her outrage? She lives with this sociopathic sex predator who has absolutely no respect for the female gender. What mistake he is and we may have to live with this for the remainder of his four year term....oh brother, please help us now!
Tommy (Stamford)
Does Melania look like a boat-rocker to you? She's wife number 3, and he's just trying to hang on.
Gersh (North Phoenix)
DJT is a clear and present danger firstly to the USA and ultimately to the civilized world. He is on course to set off an unstoppable chain of events that causes irreparable damage to humanity. I can only hope with my whole being that I am wrong but no one seems to be impeding him to any effect.
One step (Bluffton, sC)
Take the most thin-skinned man in America, believe his charlatan ways & mindless promises, and elevate him (amazingly) to POTUS. This mix creates a toxic and endless dumpster fire that is the Trump presidency. For 2018, remember these past two years, and get the Democrats back in charge. Yes, it does make a difference on who can actually govern.
acmuns (Dallas TX.)
So....."All the News Thats Fit to Print"...
What a joke ! NY Times has now joined the twitter news generation
reporting nonsense and rubbish while our country faces some of it's greatest
problems of modern times.......discusting...
Tommy (Stamford)
You mean the nonsense and rubbish coming from the PRESIDENT? That nonsense and rubbish? Yeah, it gets reported.
Bill (Philadelphia)
You mean trump is the disgusting one...don't you?
gerry (new york)
There you go again, Donald: Make America Hate Again.
frances (usa)
I work in the field of mental health. When people say things that prove they have no boundaries, no judgement, no self control and no empathy....we think of them as ill. And we try to help them. But we don't want them for president.
Tom (New York)
Oh, it's nasty for sure... but isn't this another diversion tactic on his part? Why is this a lead story in The New York Times? Please focus on his ties to the Russian government, and the possibility (Lord wiling) of obstructionism on his part. That's REAL news.
NH (Culver City)
He has behaved like this since he was a brat teenager in Forest Hills. Two questions. 1 Why does anyone think it will stop? 2. How could anyone have voted for him?
Joe Paper (Pottstown, Pa.)
Since election day the stock market is up 30%.
Homes that sat for years are selling.
Contractors are busier now than they have been for 10 yrs.
Consumer confidence is way up.
The economic mood of the USA is better than the last 10 years.
That's why they voted for him.
And will again.
Follow the money.
SteverB1 (Chicago)
The stock market is a gigantic bubble and the rest of your list follows that. When the bubble bursts, and it will, watch what happens.
Jethro (Brooklyn)
Election day can't come soon enough.
Kareena (Florida)
It's Howdy Duty time in our White House
Bill (Philadelphia)
If only.
Vernon (Bristol City)
Ad feminam and ad hominem attacks, by Trump, punctuated the past 2 day news cycles. What a sterling performance, dear POTUS! His pusillanimous pursuits continue unchecked, but rest of the GOP barely managed to raise just whimpers, instead of vehement opposition, as observed by an ordinary news consumer. Despite Trump's despicable acts, rest of the GOP will, most likely, toe his line, and dance to his tunes as to his policy pronouncements. The AHCA flag will soon be unfurled, regardless of its fulminant flaws. Let the skirmishes begin. It really will not matter.

Lindsey Graham and John McCain, the magnificent mavericks, are, perhaps the only ones, impugning the POTUS' pathetic and pitiful public performances. His twitter ought to belong in the gutter. His tweeting fingers might do well with some zingers. And yet, despite any kind of onslaughts, Trump's presumptuous infallibility will be unfailing.

His flunkies will uphold his tradition of hitting back with exponential force, making him a human being without skin. Is it enough for anybody to bite the dust? Hard to say.
mytwocents (Boston)
Finding the right person for the right job is not easy, so is electing a president
Bruno Parfait (France)
This guy will be in Paris for Bastille Day.

That reminds me of Woody Allen.
After insisting on the fact he was considered as a genius in France, a journalist tells him he was one of the first directors having used Sylvester Stallone.

"Uh...and you still think I 'm a genius?"

Here we deal with Macron's genius.
Pam (Savannah)
Trump will continue to get away with rude, uncivilized acts because he is a BRAND. A brand cannot be given the same morals as a living person. For example Kleenex cannot be accused of mocking a disabled person, or defaming a famous war hero, or treating women with disrespect etc. It's a sad time in American history.
MetroGirl123 (NYC)
OMG, America is cringing before the world. This illiterate, ignorant, vulgar con man/grifter has brought us down to the lowest point reputation wise in our country's entire history. When will the Republicans wake up and public ally recognize this and stop justifying him to get their own agendas across at the price of our nations safety and reputation? All we had to do to protect ourselves from this buffoon was to (1) Eliminate electoral college and (2) Require transparent tax returns. Had we done that this repulsive con man would have scuttled back to his gaudy cave and we'd have been saved from this global humiliation.
S Stone (Ashland OR)
I would like this news organization to continue to irritate Mr. Trump in any way possible. Doing this will a) demonstrate what a weak and paranoid ego he has, 2) show how much he hates women, 3) indicate to Republicans and his slavering followers that he is easily distracted by minor issues, 4) display a complete lack of concentration on the real job of being President, and 5) prevent Trump from doing other work that will be damaging to our democracy. Keep up the sideshow so that destructive policy work is severely impeded.
Chris Dowd (Boston)
Do you expect an educated media savvy population to buy this blatant scripted act?
cooter_brown (Albuquerque, New Mexico)
Vulgarity and Ignorance.

We are all struggling to find the words to condemn this man whose conduct continues to embarrass and endanger us. If only Joseph Welch, the great lawyer from Boston were still alive.

Welch knew how to "take down" another of our nation's great demagogues from the 1950s, Senator Joseph McCarthy, Republican of Minnesota. It was during a Senate hearing that Welch who had listed to McCarthy smear one of the junior lawyers in his firm spoke these words:

"Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty, or your recklessness...Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

McCarthy tried to ignore Welch but before long the good sense of the American people brought him low. And thus it will happen to today's Vulgar Ignoramus and I am not a good enough person to feel any compassion for him. He deserves his fate!
s Krishna (<br/>)
Is this the level of news now? The liberals and the Democrats should start focusing on solving Americans problems. Otherwise they will endure four additional years of Trump.
Bluebyyou (Tucson)
That job is taken already! By the president and Congress (the people you elected, remember?)
Your comments need to go to those IN POWER.
Lindsay K (Westchester County, NY)
Yes, this is news - when the president makes disgusting, insulting, and psychologically unsound statements on a consistent basis, then it should be reported. The mental fitness of the guy in charge of the nuclear codes is not something at which we should shrug our shoulders.

And unless I'm missing something, aren't the Republicans running the show now? Shouldn't they be working on solving America's problems? After all, they hitched their wagon to the "make America great again" train driven by a guy who said "I alone can fix it", and they were the ones who spent the past eight years blasting Obama and his administration every chance they got. So now that their party's standard bearer has proven himself to be a certifiable lunatic, they don't need to take responsibility for what their party has wrought? It's up to the Democrats and the liberals to clean up the mess that they made?
Len (California)
In Trump we have a loose cannon on the ship of state. One wonders how long the GOP will put up with this nonsense.

An intelligent person can successfully act as if he is stupid, but a stupid person cannot successfully act as if he is intelligent. Trump is the proof. What you see is what you get and, in almost all likelihood, what you will continue to get.
Bian (Phoenix)
This is more than being anti-female which he may not be. Instead, his tweets and comments demonstrate a complete lack of judgement and the implications of that suggest calamity for this country and perhaps the world may not be far away. As to the allegation of being anti-female, the man is anti-female or male. Gender does not matter. It is incomprehensible that Trump refuses to listen to and adhere to the wise counsel we know he is receiving to stop the tweets and foolish comments, but that is who the man is. As to the media, it is down in the gutter. It no longer reports the news: it is just crude attack after attack aimed at Trump. Yes, he can be goaded and he responds just as crudely. Our country is being poorly served by both media and the President. But, he is one with the launch codes. Yet, his crude comments are not a basis for impeachment. And, the Russia probe will not implicate him directly. And, his stupid comments to the former FBI director and firing him are not obstruction of justice. We are stuck with him for four years. We need the Democrats to run a much better candidate than HC next time. If they do not, it 8 years of you know who.
Sharon Salzberg (Charlottesville, va.)
There is more to the investigation than obstruction of justice. Hoping that they serve him up within the year.
dude (Philadelphia)
Yes, there are instances when the media are over the top with Trump; however, this man's "vision" is reckless and potentially devastating. He must be challenged at all turns. Furthermore, how can this man expect any form of respect? Starting with his perpetuation of the birther lie, he should receive zero courtesy from the media nor the American public. And yes, the Dems got to get their act together quickly, form a solid program and run the best candidates possible, otherwise all may be lost. Unfortunately I don't have confidence in the Dems to do so.
Brad Sharp (Ithica, NY)
You can give up your anti-female fraud. You can give up every single thought within your post. You lost. America won. The worst thing an American can do is refuse to accept the results of a lawful election. Are you an American?
Basic (CA)
Nothing from the past few days has been out of character or in anyway inconsistent with the manner in which DJT conducted his public life for decades or during the campaign. Has he finally gone over the ledge? Perhaps, however mocking a disabled reporter, disparaging Rosie O'Donnell's appearance, bus tape, etc., etc.. means no one should seem surprised.
Catherine (New York)
Anyone expressing shock at this comment is either being disingenuous or has a short memory. The President admitted, on tape, to sexually assaulting women - and was elected anyway. None of his terrible behavior should surprise us. In fact, it is utterly predictable.
Brad Sharp (Ithica, NY)
Locker room talk does not rise to the level of the Hillary RICO felonies. Give it up. You lost. America won.
Todd (Los Angeles)
And speaking of tax dollars... What does he do all day?
Southern Boy (The Volunteer State)
@Todd,
Whatever he does all day is beside the point, as for tax dollars, he accepts no salary, his salary goes to charity.
SteverB1 (Chicago)
Charity or not, it is still $400K a year being spent for this "president."
Basic (CA)
How would anyone know where his money goes?
Kibi (NY)
"Trump? Apologize?" I thought, so I clicked the link to his "apology" to Kim Novak. Does not look like an apology to me.

He is a sick man. He can't help himself. Blame the people who voted for him. They should apologize -- and they will have a great chance to express their regret next November.
Paul Gallagher (London, Ohio)
Focus, focus, focus, NYT.
Mika and Joe are wealthy and backed by a powerful organization, and can take care of themselves.
The rest of us need your undivided attention on Trump and the GOP's efforts to destabilize the world, hurt the poor and help the rich.
Gerithegreek (Kentucky)
That this behavior continues unchecked is evidence that the president of the US is both obsessive and compulsive. He is dangerous to both the country and the planet.

Likewise it is evidence that the country seems to lack a solution to the problem. Congress obviously does not have the insight and integrity to realize and admit that he is not fit to be the leader of this country.

Isn't there something that can be done?
SteverB1 (Chicago)
The first thing that could be done is for you to work VERY hard to unseat McConnell in Kentucky. That would go a long way to getting something done. He has proven himself to think, "Party, party, party" over country innumerable times. Getting rid of him and Ryan would help immensely.
luckylorenzo (California)
It's scary the author of these tweets has his finger on nuclear weapons. We may have political nitroglycerine in the WH!
Michael S (Wappingers Falls, NY)
Far too many journalists are becoming the story these days. It can't be good to get into a peeing contest with the president of the United States - especially if he is a deviant as Trump.
Douglas (Illinois)
This is the person ( can't call him a Man ) that the American People elected to be their leader, and by extension the leader of the " Free World ". Is he an aberration or is he a reflection of the true American character? If that is the case we, and I mean the whole world , are in deep trouble and real danger.
Kate (<br/>)
What I find the most appalling is the women who defend him. His wife has obviously made some kind of Faustian bargain and Ms. Huckabee Sanders is modeling herself after some imaginary being.
deeply embedded (Central Lake Michigan)
I suspect Trump's supporters are not outraged.. And I suspect he know this. They likely watch the pretend lives, to them, of these TV news anchor stars. When they watch television they constantly watch a world unreal to them. Why not poke it with a stick.. Trump has tapped into the reality that is America.. those shouting would like to pretend things are different. That we are a serious nations of laws and dignity. Since when? I would say not for decades. When you see Trump. You see America. There is a reason The Apprentice ( I never watched it) was successful.
dude (Philadelphia)
unfortunately true. This is what a significant portion of "us" has become. So what to do? Move? One can live well elsewhere. That's what we are discussing in my family.
Yohei Okumura (Norwalk, CT)
How long before Trump resigns from Presidency?
Will this go on for the next 4 years?

It's hard to believe and I am shocked that there is nobody putting restraint on what he tweets / says to the media after all these inappropriate comments he have made.
dude (Philadelphia)
I state with great pain...he ain't goin' nowhere, unless his health fails him.
MCH (Florida)
No matter what President Trump said, the fact of the matter is he has been bullied ruthlessly by Mika and Joe for months. They have a national stage to mock the President and they way they have done that is most reprehensible. The 2 of them are clowns.
T Rex (T-rexas)
@MCH: Where were you when President Obama was being mercilessly bullied in the right-wing media? Cheering them on? Funny how y'all can dish it out, but you can't take it.
Sharon Salzberg (Charlottesville, va.)
The right wing, including trump, the birther, relentlessly tried to delegitamize President Obama. He never took the bait because he is a man of impeccable character, who was a widely respected President.
dude (Philadelphia)
I don't and won't watch their show; however, they were pointing out his fake Time cover...yes, he is deserving of tremendous ridicule for that. The man is a liar and must be called out each time he lies, which happens to be very often.
Elise (Northern California)
Not surprising at all that the Republicans are silent, with the exception of two female US Republican Senators in competitive seats who made comments against his tweets.

Truly not surprising was the defiant, incomprehensible defense of Trump provided by the Republican daughter of a Republican Governor who mentions that her daddy was a governor on her Twitter profile.

Trump and Sarah Huckabee Sanders are now officially The Heir and The Spare.
MountainMan (Colorado)
I hope all of you trump voters are all still proud of their wasted votes. Proud to be an independent and think for myself!
David Mallet (Point Roberts WA)
The irony of Ms. Huckabee's most basic grammatical error in her statement, 'None of us are perfect.' That, from the press secretary of our Child King.
Gilbert Chung (San Francisco)
From the point of view of a retired high school principal, Mr. Trump'smorning tweet aimed at MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski is not a laughing matter. It is not a lock room joke. In a school setting such a statement is classified as cyber bullying. A student who does this will be disciplined with suspension for several days. Member of the Congressional Ethics Committee and the leaders of the national educational community need to speak up. Is this how we teach our youngster - bullying is OK? Keeping silent and taking no action will do a lot of damage in educating our students who will be the future pillars of our beloved country.
Kathryn Meyer (Carolina Shores, NC)
So the White House is normalizing the manchild's actions by saying the reason was because of the harsh commentary from two reporters. And what was this harsh criticism? Oh yeah, it was about Trump's fake news items - showing his lies; telling the truth is such harsh criticism for a liar in chief! So now he has a pacifier named Sarah! And the national disgrace and embarassment continues as we sink beyond rock bottom in Presidential behavior.
olyjan (olympia)
Wow - 6700 comments already! This elevates a topic women have been wanting to have for decades - THAT is a good thing and the 6700 comments demonstrate that. It also bring into sharp focus the 'daily news' shows - who's in charge, who's 'guides' the discussions...I HAD HOPED that yesterday or today the men would have stayed home. That at some level THEY could see that it's women who want to speak for themselves without the 'guidance' of the male host or the male commentators. I would have loved to have listened to ONE tv-talk show with only women! (and why why why is donny deutch on anything?!)
JoAnne Gatti-Petito (Bluffton, SC)
Susan Collins said that things should be different when you become a public servant. The problem is that Mr. Trump believes that the public are his servants--not the other way around.
Joseph Ross Mayhew (Timberlea, Nova Scotia)
Slander pure and simple. Sue his butt off and boot him out!! Since when did the USA stop being a country where the law was applied to all evenly? The case is cut and dried: obvious malicious intent. The US is now officially a Banana Republic except without the bananas.
James Williams (Punta Gorda FL)
Crass, vulgar, pathetic. That's Donald Trump. A "president" in name only. Certainly not substance. An national embarrassment. A national shame! Needs to be removed from office!
Susan J Peeples (Corpus Christi TX)
It is obvious the occupant in the White House and those who defend him know nothing about an appropriate response to a perceived attack. When called a liar or criticized in some other way, the adult response is to refute the claim rather than launch a series of personal insults. Those who are insulted would do best to take the high road. If they respond at all, defending their claims with evidence makes the best sense. There is no arguing with these characters and no percentage in engaging at their level. The comments coming from outraged members of Congress amount to nothing but noise. Until the people we elected to represent us act on their first obligations to defend the Constitution and put democracy before party, they have no stature. It is apparent that the Kumbaya moment after the tragic shooting not long ago was not enough of a shock to galvanize Congress into action. Popularity polls be damned. We need journalists and members of Congress to do their jobs. I wonder what would have happened or what would happen if the next time Spicer or Sanders behave insultingly at a briefing, en masse members of the press stood and turned their backs as a signal that they stand united in demanding civility respect. I would make my way to DC in a heartbeat to join a mass demonstration for civility and honesty in government.
bogard (Walla Walla Wa)
I recommend news sources gather all the daily trump lies, absurdities, and tiny man comments (in fact, anything containing the word”trump”) and put them in one folder on page 5 of their publication. that way, people that actually want to read them can click and go be entertained, and the rest of us wouldn’t have to be subjected to seeing a continuous barrage of stories about oily sub-lifeforms on the front page every day.
dude (Philadelphia)
The NY Times put out such an article a few days ago.
Frank Perkins (Portland, Maine)
In the process of Trump making America great again one must surely wonder about his definition of "great". The Ugly American becoming uglier than ever it seems. Let us pray that America and the world survive.
Dean Forbes (Seattle)
Impeach.
AstroTurk (Eugene, OR)
Our so-called president is a small, vulgar man.
Russ Huebel (Kingsville, Tx.)
Self defense: Every person should carry a small vial of blood in case Trump gets too close.
LDK (Vancouver)
So fellow Republicans condemn the tweet. It means nothing, if they continue to vote against their consciences on bills that affect millions.
James Calloway (Knoxville, TN)
How on Earth would these two writers have any idea what would erode Trump support among women and independents ? Or 90% of the people commenting on this article ? Something tells me there are a lot of folks in this comment block who bought that HRC 98% Chance of winning hook, line, and sinker.
Bill (Philadelphia)
Sounds like you bought into the conman's shtick. Happy now?? Sane people are not happy with his behavior.
KEF (<br/>)
I can truthfully say that I could do a better job as President then Donald Trump.
SSB (FL)
He said and tweeted worse (before blood was coming out of the "you know what") and then got elected as president. Clearly not enough people see this as disgusting as it is. In fact many people agree with him. He is the drunk uncle who makes fun of minorities and women and too many white men, women and weirdly enough, some minorities, laugh and say he has balls and that is good. I'll never understand. We have an outrageous child as president which seems to elicit both outrage and and a nurturing protection from the people he represents. I thing he needs to be fired and ignored, given a pacifier and that we should get a real president who is an educated, responsible and caring adult who won't take away healthcare, education and benefits from the poor and the elderly.
Elin Minkoff (Florida)
SSB: it is even worse that some people do not see his words and actions as disgusting as they are. Some people think that his outrageous, ugly, insulting, obscene, indecent behaviors, out of control rants, and pathological lying are WONDERFUL! They view his obvious mental disturbances as "PUNCHING BACK!" These are people who voted for him, who support him, and who think that he should be able to do whatever he wants...no matter how much it hurts our country and its' citizens. And the more we talk and try to explain to them that something is very wrong, the more they dig their heels in, and scream his praises. They don't care if they don't have health care, or if they are relegated to living in a cardboard box. As long as they can hurt everyone else in the process...everyone who they label as "liberal." I know that I do not want to hurt people who voted for trump and who are going to lose their health insurance. I am angry at them for putting the entire country at the hands of this very ill president and very ill GOP. But I don't want them to suffer and die. I only want them to wake up, and realize what is going on, and stop them from voting in a way that even puts themselves and their loved ones in Harm's Way. Not just liberals--but themselves!
MarkAntney (VA)
In defense of POTUS (somewhat) If I acted and sounded like an immature 12yr old (with potential varying degrees of mental deficiency),...

I probably wouldn't like Obama either and lash out at women.
Kit (Ithaca, NY)
Donald J. Trump‏ tweeted two tweets this morning:

Watched low rated @Morning_Joe for first time in long time. FAKE NEWS. He called me to stop a National Enquirer article. I said no! Bad show

Crime and killings in Chicago have reached such epidemic proportions that I am sending in Federal help. 1714 shootings in Chicago this year!

I am very concerned about one of them. You picked the wrong one, NYT. Don't fall for his smoke-and-mirrors game.
Victor (Santa Monica)
The man obviously can't control his impulses, and they are thuggish and stupid. As so many have noted, rather than becoming "presidential" after the election, he has deteriorated emotionally and mentally. What a mess for the country!
mgaudet (Louisiana)
Ridiculous!
Sandy Reiburn (Ft Greene, NY)
It's damning this man with faint praise to say his bad behavior is childlike...this is a pathetic denial of what is a 70 year old man's disturbed mind
Georgina (New York, NY)
Trump is now 71. As he told the world over and over, his birthday was June 14.
Jody Oberfelder (New York City)
What a cad!

Trump Jong Ill. Very Ill. Bigly.
Dean Lee (Madrid, Spain)
Do you hear it? A faint chorus in the background...

...sticks and stones will break our bones, but names...
Jasmine Lindros (Ely, NV)
Why are you Republicans exclaiming "this has to stop"? This actually IS who you elected. You wouldn't allow a sexual predator into your own house, but you chose one to live in the White House. You chose to put a draft-dodging coward in charge of our military. You chose to have our Constitution preserved, protected, and defended by the only candidate who proposed multiple violations of that very same Constitution. You chose to demean and diminish our nation by electing an unstable, self-absorbed child to a job he does not understand and cannot perform. This is YOUR fault, Republican voters.
Joe (CA)
We continue to focus all of this attention on Trump. We need to focus significantly more on those who support and excuse his behaviors. Those who voted for him, our so called congressional leaders in the GOP, the WH Administrative officials (particularly his communications staff), and his family are all complicit in this national disgrace. They are the wind beneath his sails and they play a huge role in allowing this to continue or putting a quick end to this insanity.

Thank you to those senators who spoke out. Now, where is Mitch McConnell, and will he taint his legacy with an even darker spot? I'm afraid so!
Ingolf Stern (Seattle)
It's the voters. Stupid.
Bill (Philadelphia)
The ones who voted for this conman sure are.
NYer (New York)
It is not Donald Trump that is at fault. He has an illness. It is the drug, it is Twitter. The 12 step program will not work here. Twitter must be held responsible. Denial of service must be activated. NSA, Mossad, do the secret worm. For the good of humanity, Anonymous, bring down Twitter, end the madness, preserve civilization before it Tweets out forever.
Elin Minkoff (Florida)
Well, it is his fault, and I do realize that he is sick, but you are right. Twitter is (one of ) his drug(s); he is addicted to Twitter. I am sure that Twitter is afraid to cancel the Twitter account of the President of The United States! But maybe if Congress (fat chance) contacted Twitter, and said: "Look, you must cancel his account; he is doing terrible damage to the country." I don't know if this would work, and Congress is not going to do it. They LIKE what is going on, no matter what they say. Distracts from their corrupt and cruel agenda.

And I do recommend shock therapy. (Hello!) And there are also very effective medications that can be administered orally. But that brings us to a bigger question: If someone is mentally ill, should they be in charge, or even partially in charge of this country, even if they get treatment? The answer is clearly NO! Regardless, trump and the GOP do not have the best interests of the country or its' citizens at heart, and they are unable and unwilling to govern. It is all about accumulating wealth for them and for the already wealthy. This is not governing; it is theft. You DO NOT disenfranchise the poor, the sick, the disabled, and the elderly to enrich the already rich, or to line your own pockets...which is what the GOP is doing. At this rate, most of us are going to need shock treatment.
Aging Vet (Chapel Hill)
Will there never be any real political consequence for obviously damaged narcissist? Republican leadership is typically MIA. Mitch and Paul, time to put your big boy pants on and stand up!
KatieBear (TellicoVillage,TN)
Open season NOW on Melania (10X's harder)! Since she moved in her hubby has disrespected an Irish Newswoman and now Ms. Brzezinski. She's a wonderful influence right? And Ivanka; no words. Anyhow so now his party has to deal with Trumpcare and the fiasco it is as well as women resistance; GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! Aside from all the angry Grandparents of non-US children! Good luck trumpy with that summit you're going to where you are such a FOOL. Now let's talk about looks/IQ - HIS!!!
DY9219 (Minneapolis)
I believe Melania is following Jesus' teachings: "Whosoever shall smite you on your right cheek, you shall smite them 10 times harder".

Twitter....#1 bully enabler.
Mari (Camano Island, WA)
Very deplorable of Donald to attack Ms. Brzenzinski! But I am not surprised! The man has such an ego, is a narcissist this IS what narcissists do.

What's even more deplorable is the defense of bullying by Donald, from Huckabee-Sanders, a woman who claims to know Christ!!! Ms. Sanders, said "when attacked, he attacks." Well, no.....as a "Christian she should know Jesus said, "if someone slaps you on the right cheek, give him your left also." An "eye for an eye" is NOT a Christian value! Aside from this, isnt he an adult?! Donald, every president has been criticized AND disrespected (birther movement).

Grow a pair, Donald and STOP bullying...it is NOT OKAY!
jj (flagstaff, az)
This is the same man that republican voters embraced in November. Civility?
Respect? Compassion? Competence? Accountability? This is on you, republicans. You, your politicians and your right wing media cesspool.

The NYT and the rest of its non-thinking followers have not figured Trump out, yet!!!!! Seriously??? It is like you guys never learn, and Trump continues to shock and awe you with dumb tweets. Hilarious.
PtSurDoc (Redding, CA)
Trump is giving a new and disturbing meanin
g to the expression "Bully pulpit".
tonyjm (tennessee)
Nothing news about this, a bunch of liberal media hype. Come on NY Times print some real news.
Paul House (Texas)
I wish you Trump haters would just LEAVE HIM ALONE! The biggest lie told about Trump (and there are many of this variety) is he is an honest, respectable man. It amazes me that Democrats can only see his misogynistic, xenophobic, arrogant, race-baiting, amoral, anti-social, egocentric, psychopathic blowhard jerk wad despotic persona. Other than that he's really not a bad guy.
Rodney Scales (Las Vegas)
Give me a break. Most White Women voted for President Trump they didn't mind him talking about asaulting women.
DR (New England)
Most? Where are you getting your numbers from?
Andrea Lew (Jersey City, NJ)
This white woman didn't.
G. Sears (Johnson City, Tenn.)
Too much step around and temerity in calling out the patently disgraceful behavior of the President.

Nothing has changed regarding Trump's impulsive bullying, still the same crude, degrading, and sexist jerk.

An monumental embarrassment to the entire Nation.

I think its something to do with his hands...........not his head.
Judy K. (Winston-Salem, NC)
Please stop him. Take his Twitter account away from him. Stop the sexism, racism, and all other outrageous comments. Our children are watching.
Mary Kay (Virginia)
Dear NYT editors: After twenty-four hours of inviting all of us to fume with you about a single tweet, surely it's time to remove this story from the top of the news banner?
Lane (Austin, TX)
Take the phone away from this bratty little PUG and inform him that he is the President, teach him humility and grace, or put him in the attic and don't let him out when company is at the White House. Enough Donny - Grow up!

Trump is not ethical or presidential....he's unhinged and UNFIT!
D.E. Zea (Rochester, NY)
His reward? We are no longer talking about how a Republican-led Congress with a Republican President willing to sign any bill they hand him cannot accomplish their biggest promise. Hey look! A squirrel!
George Smiley (Bywater Street)
I'd love to see the media just ignore him for a week -- no reporting on tweets, nothing about what he says (whether lies or only semi-lies), skip WH press briefings, and just focus on non-Trump news. He wouldn't learn anything from this or change his behavior, but it would get the media out of the kinds of dominance power play he thrives on.

How's that working for you? Trump rants like a madman while you're air and water is being poisoned, your health care is at stake and your country becomes less secure.

King Trump should smack down on Russia , not MSNBC. Real tough guy with non policy makers and comedians, but soft, and limp in draining the swamp.

This guy has obvious mental health issues and the thinnest skin ever.

Puhleese.....Let's all grow up, the abominable Mr Trump and the tender-hearted Mika and Joe, who relentlessly attack anyone they wish. Who cares if she had a facelift or a tweaking !!! By the way, NYT, I notice you do not have a comment section available at the Mika article location. Hmmmm...I cannot abide this mess, but it's hard to choose among babies.
The stupidest thing Trump did was to provide a platform for the hosts to play grownups, which they decidedly are not. Take their public relationship, for instance.......
Babel (new Jersey)
Trump is not politically correct. Thank God, we finally have a MAN in office who says what he thinks. Listen to the liberals whine. Brzezinski slams Trump everyday. Does anyone seriously think "Baby Mika" would have a show if it was not for the pull of her father. Her and that traitor to the Republican cause "Psycho Joe" make a perfect pair. Trump is driving the liberal press crazy because tweets like this rally the base. As for Republican women, they are just fine with having a real man in office.
Harry Toll and (Boston)
".... they are just fine with having a real man in office."

Obviously "they" and you have no idea what manhood entails. To think of Trump as a "real man" is ludicrous.
Arnie Tracey (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
Mika & Joe Score A Direct Hit.

I, for one, see the GOP's circling of their tatty wagons around our mentally defective president, as tantamount to elder-abuse. An ongoing exploitation of a decrepit senior, of the type suffered by Brooke Astor at the hands of her son, the submissive Tony Marshall and his dominant, profligate new wife.*

Joe and Mika's objective take:

LINK -https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/donald-trump-is-not-well/2017/06...

*The New York Times reported August 1, 2006, that Anthony Marshall was accused by Alice Perdue, an employee in his mother's business office, of diverting nearly $1 million from his ailing mother's personal checking accounts into theatrical productions. Marshall, through a spokesman, said that his mother knew of the investments and approved of them. Perdue countered that Marshall had advised her never to send to his mother any documents of a financial nature because "she didn't understand it."

Nice to see the NYT has whipped up its far left reader drone base with yet another anti-Trump cover article about an unimportant tweet.

What's the matter NYT and your so-awful editorial board, run out of illegal alien sob stories to run this week?

Wee the parents of the murdered victims of your beloved illegal aliens getting too much traction in the news, so now its deflection time with Trump's online activities?

Is there anything more pathetic than watching the corporate NYT orchestrating and manipulating its even more clueless reader drones to whine about Trump, wishing they had elected the Wall Street-owned Hillary, while dreamily reminiscing about an horrific obama presidency that all but guaranteed a massive war with iran in the next few years?
Harry Toll and (Boston)
Donald J. Trump has the mind and intellectual level of a nasty, spoiled little child. He is a bully and like all bullies, a coward.
Charles (Gainesville, FL)
We have so many challenges in this country: issues ranging from health care and tax reform to international diplomacy and military intervention in foreign wars. What we have is an administration that is failing the American people and a President who is a national disgrace. Division, distrust, profiteering, and now childish, crude, and mindless name calling. God help us all.
Art (Colorado)
Our fake president is a male chauvinist pig.
i (chap)
This is GREAT a president who punches back! Ever since he announced he was running the left loony tunes have been mocking, laughing, making fun of Trump etc. and when he punches back they scream and whine wahhh he hit me... just like that spoiled sibling as a kid that would always be starting things and when they got thumped they would go running and crying to mommy and daddy about how bla bla hit me, yet never telling mommy n daddy that they were flicking, poking, teasing, causing trouble that got them punched.

So funny how these fools would suck up to Trump when they went to his hotels or golf courses, but since he decided to run as a Republican he is the devil, but before that he was their friend. Fake news, fake people, yeah liberals are like cockroaches quick someone get a can of raid.. :)
Kally (Kettering)

"People may say things during a campaign, but it's different when you become a public servant." - Sen. Susan Collins

News Flash, Senator. Trump does not see himself as a servant --public, nationally elected, or chosen by God-- but as something more than a king. He is more powerful than Wonderland's Queen of Heart. If he says something, the says he didn't say it. He didn't say it, videos and recordings demonstrating otherwise be damned.

We have a lacking president. Lacking what, you ask? A conscience, for starters, a filter for his mouth and Twitter finger, empathy, foresight, hindsight, knowledge, curiosity, wisdom (lord, does he lack wisdom). Trump needs all these things and oh so much more. Much more is what he wants: more power, more money, more adulation. He already has too much of these, but not by his counting.

And last but not least on the list of Trump's needs: a barber.
Ruth L (Johnstown, NY)
His supporters and apologists claim Trump cannot let a slight go and appreciate that he is a 'fighter'. Except he 'fights' mostly and most fiercely for himself.

For example - he promised a health care bill that covered everyone with better insurance for less premium and lower deductibles. None of these were part of the House bill or the current Senate bill. Did he 'fight'? Naw. He held a celebration in the White House after the House bill (that he later called 'mean') passed. No fighting. Doesn't affect him beyond 'passing something' so he doesn't care and certainly doesn't fight. Many more examples.

Trump isn't worthy of your support. I'm sure I won't change any minds but you guys are being played and used. Sad.
Jess (CT)
Tell him to sit down, learn to be a president and to stop behaving like a sore looser...

He has such a low self esteem and such a weak character.

He should not be in the Oval Office

He and his family should be ASHAMED!
bbe (new orleans)
Trump is Eric Cartman writ large. He is a child, a bully, a big mouth, a braggart, and an overweening egotist. However, Cartman is actually funny. Trump is pathetic.
KK (NY)
Trump and his family are low-class, money-grubbing people who have suddenly acquired world-wide fame, power and recognition. Their behavior and values are visible for all to see. This is what you get when you vote for an ignorant egomaniac and he puts his family in positions of power. Lipstick on a pig. What an abomination for the United States to have this man as it's President, especially after Obama. Sad.
Frank McNamara (Boston)
The deadly dull and relentlessly partisan concubine of Morning Joe had it coming.

And I'm confused: Wasn't "women's liberation" meant to assure that women would be treated just like men in the rough and tumble of political combat?

Why then the special feminist pleading for "Mika"?

Get over it.
Kally (Kettering)
Well, gotta stop reading these comments now. It's too depressing to see who Trump's misogynist fan base is.

YaddaYaddaYadda (Astral Plane)
Several people have said this story is not news worthy. Healthcare is. Lots of other things the administration is or is not doing with regard to real issues that affect us all, those are what is newsworthy.

However, as logically appealing as this is in a way, if the President, or any prior US president, one night decided to go on the highway and run around on all fours barking like a dog, it would be worth printing in the paper. This is simply another version of that kind of story. It's about a president behaving in public, in a social sphere, in a manner that is more inappropriate than just about anyone you have ever met, known, or heard about. And it's more than a novelty. Given that the president has to deal with all sorts of people, from members of Congress to help get legislation he wants passed into law, to representatives of foreign governments to get alliances formed, being aware of how he handles himself in public as a matter of character, not to mention how this very incident will be perceived by and affect people he has to deal with on issues of substance, the story is actually matters quite a bit.

It's not just that Trump lacks any kind of filter. Even if many past presidents had no filter they wouldn't say/tweet these kinds of things because the vulgarities and petty insults wouldn't occur to them; thoughts pass through Trump's mind that wouldn't pass through Bush's or Obama's or any number of other past presidents.
YaddaYaddaYadda (Astral Plane)
I mangled a sentence. I meant -

"Given that the president has to deal with all sorts of people, the story actually matters quite a bit. If he acts this way today, how might he behave with members of Congress he needs on his side to get legislation passed? How might he behave with representatives of foreign governments whose cooperation we need on international issues? How are such people thinking today as they read this story? What damage has he already done to future relationships with others he may need, all because those others are witnessing his petty vulgarities today?
Elin Minkoff (Florida)
trump's thoughts wouldn't pass through MOST normal minds! And even if such thoughts passed through people's minds...and they are vile thoughts...WHO, IN THEIR RIGHT MIND, ACTS UPON SUCH THOUGHTS?! The point is that to behave in the ways in which trump does, you have to be unwell. Acting crazy is not normal. And acting crazy is just as pathological no matter WHO does it. This is not about "punching back." Presidents, in particular, do not "punch back" in the ways that this person does. Public office requires some kind of dignity, thought, and decorum. What I see is a combination of mental disturbance, narcissism, pathological lying, and outrageous immaturity. A lethal brew that is dragging the United States down a big, black hole.
David Honig (Indianapolis)
Even bigger news was made this morning, when the show hosts described a blackmail scheme between Trump and the National Enquirer. They touched upon it in their column in The Post, but they fleshed it out on the air. The National Enquirer was contacting Ms. Brzenski's teen girls and her ex-husband, then Scarborough got repeated calls from the White House demanding that he call and grovel to Trump to get the promised negative story spiked. That's flat-out blackmail, and needs to be investigated.

I am really proud about Trump again. He is a street fighter. You punch him; he will drag you to hell. Morning Joe made a terrible mistake of saying bad things about President Trump. You don't call a respected man mentally deranged, fool, thug, and so on, and expect no retaliation. Irony is I am a fan of Morning Joe, but recently they have gone totally insane with the liberal media. Calling names won't work to win an argument, and Trump just gave them their own medicine. I wish liberal media talks more about policies and issues, instead of bringing their own liberal propaganda, twisted facts and abused logic to serve their agenda. I am more happy than ever with President Trump.
EarthCitizen (Albuquerque, NM)
The "liberal agenda" is taking care of the common good: universal healthcare, women's equality, racial equality (not yet achieved), good K-12 public education, affordable and/or free higher education, improved public transportation, and care for the elder population.

What this country does NOT need with so many issues NOT being resolved by the Republicans is a President engaging in personal vendettas via social media with some television hosts who disagree with him. He should have far more important issues on his mind. As other commenters said the man can dish it out but he can't take it.

A qualified leader knows he will face criticism and remains above the fray, focused on his obligations as public servant to take care of the citizens of his country and to interchange with other world leaders for the betterment of the world.

OK AMmerica, this is what you want to pay attention to. 5,000 + comments are 'voting' this the news you want to follow, which is the moronic drivel contemptuously served up to distract you by Tweeter Traitor is Chief.

Well, you know what? Either impeach Trump for poor character, which we have every right to do for 'non-presidential' behavior, or 'can it' as his Twitter Mob would have it.

Personally, I'd rather impeach and indict much of his administration for treasonous acts, conspiracy to suborn obstruction of an FBI investigation, obstruction of same, obstruction of justice, and gross violations of the Emoluments clause, ongoing as this is written.

At this point, America, the failure to act is on us.
Kally (Kettering)
"We" can impeach him? How? Give me some steps other than the usual call your representative. If you know how, you should get started ASAP.
Harriet (Mt. Kisco, NY)
Was there ever a president more maliciously maligned than Obama? And not just him but his wife and daughters, too? He took it all on the chin and went on governing. He, of course, was a grown-up. The person in the White House right now, although he and his underlings, like to talk about his toughness, is nothing but a big baby. Not a good thing for the president of the United States. Hope no country says something that makes him cry. We could have WWIII.
David Henry (Concord)
It looks bad, so suddenly some on the GOP are making noise about it. Not so with killing people so the 1% can enjoy yet another gratuitous tax cut. No Problemo with that!
Confusedreader (USA)
Mika and Joe have been making personal attacks on Trump and to a lesser extent other GOPers for months now. Calling Trump a fake president, crazy, deranged, the yiddish word for di#k. Not a modicum of objectivity.

I find it ironic that the left and the lefts media arm who argue for years that Obama and his predecessors were often in a vaccum of elites cut off from the real world. Get mad when Trump answers the trolling with a NY style slam.

If you want to change the TONE than we need the media and the dems to change the tone too.
Kally (Kettering)
Oh so that's what it was, an NY style slam. Not a weird, creepy lie? Here's the difference--they are TV personalities. He is, believe it or not, the president of the United States.

The truth hurts, and these two idiots mock and say worse things about the president.

Elin Minkoff (Florida)
mat Hari: I believe that trump was NOT legitimately elected. I believe that the actions of the Russians, in their interference with our electoral process, the unlawful actions of the partisan, corrupt Electoral College, as well as James Comey's inappropriate remark about Hillary Clinton (after he pronounced her innocent of all wrong-doing) led us to the installation of trump as president. Additionally, we must always, ALWAYS remember that Mrs. Clinton got about 3.5 MILLION more popular votes than did trump.
Ch (Tampa)
At some point the Republicans will have to stop viewing him as the useful idiot and take a stand. That will only come when his fanatical supporters abandon him, but that does not seem likely until they suffer from GOP policies.

Dalia --- "this has to stop."

Which part has to stop exactly? The $hitty journalism??

Certainly not the mainstream media's NWO agenda. The very thing that is going straight over the heads of the dumbed-down (thanks to the MSM) US citizens who fail to understand why the economy has had a social engineering noose around its neck for over 40 years.

We need to stop talking about the boy who peed in the punch bowl in the middle of a party.

This country has some very serious issues that must be addressed and wasting all of this time on something that is definitely not new behavior only feeds the beast.

Words I never thought I'd say in the NY Times: Do not feed the troll. And by troll, I mean the orange haired brat in the Oval Office.
Elin Minkoff (Florida)
"Words I never thought I'd say in the NY Times: Do not feed the troll. And by troll, I mean the orange haired brat in the Oval Office. "

I understand that to give a platform to this vile, corrosive, incendiary trump is not going to tone down his behaviors, but I don't think doing the opposite will work either...and I think that NYT has a responsibility to print these stories. That is what they are in business for. You just cannot ignore his doings. He IS unfortunately (tragically) the president of our country. God help us.

In the last one year, more specifically in the last few months, America has taken several steps back from the leadership in the world and has joined the likes of the banana republics. We have broken our promise under NATO to protect Europe, we are ready to break our promise to our poor and elderly by taking away healthcare, we are breaking our words enshrined in the Statue of Liberty ("Give me your poor- - - - ."), etc., etc., etc.

I for one am not surprised at the tone of these tweets. What did you expect from a person who would grab an unknown women's " pu--y" or called his own daughter "se--y", or said in open that he would punch his opponents in the face? Really, what did you expect?

We voted a businessman to the presidency and he will fight, lie, break promises, and do whatever he can to put more money into his pocket, I mean into America.
Future Dust (South Carolina)
When will we be free of this mentally deranged, dangerous fool? Are there no patriots left in Congress? Are there no Republicans with the courage to rid the nation of this cancer? And once gone, do we have the good sense to get rid of the Electoral College. While everybody else is elected by popular vote, the President is not? How stupid are we not to have changed that long ago? The Founding Fathers screwed up because they did not trust the people and gave solace to the slave states as a "compromise." Time to get rid of him and that ancient mistake. The people were right, Hillary should be sitting in the Oval Office not the bully, not the ignorant, not the fool.
fdc (USA)
Now we hear about Trump's use of the National Inquirer to intimidate the family of Mika Brezenski and Joe Scarborough. This petty and venal bully who is our President has set the character bar on the floor. SOS.
MaryEllen (New York)
For Republicans to tweet that the vulgar, disgusting comments are "unpresidential", and then do nothing, nothing at all, is stark evidence of the hollowness of the Republican party. No core principles or values to muster. Just a lot of hot air and anxious power-grabbing. Shame on you, Republicans. History will be merciless in judgment of your cowardice in a time of need.

Here we have a strange, creepy old man name-calling; spewing asinine invective; throwing filth at everything he touches. His tabloid-style tweets with their exclamation points and taunts are staggeringly stupid and childish. He's not "fighting fire with fire" or punching back 10 times harder or whatever other stupid baloney Sanders can muster (another creepy, odd person)-- they are simply bullying, nasty, often misogynistic, always inane.

Trump has no idea what smart, sophisticated power is. He can't analyze, negotiate, learn, address issues intelligently-- the man doesn't even read, for God's sake.

This is the highest representative of the US? He and his cronies are the best we can do? My God, it's sickening to breathe the same air as these people.

Dear Americans, are you actually aware of what this 71year old, narcissistic, never grown up man is doing to your reputation in the world? I am afraid not. For us Europeans America was once the country we looked up for. Now America is on the cliff to follow the Roman Empire.
Frankly, we don't care anymore what this so called "president" is doing and twittering. We continue to follow our path by respecting people, religions, the environment... I hope you Americans wake up soon and end this dramatics. It is, at the end, your reputation which is at stake. What do you want to be remembered for in 10-20 years? And what are you going to tell your children and grandchildren? We didn't see it coming? Wake up. Pleeeaaase!
angbob (Hollis, NH)
Because too many members of Congress are drawn from the same band of low-lifes as Trump, there is indeed some danger that the USA will do something dangerous before Trump's term ends. George W. Bush is an example of what can go wrong when the "checks and balances" fail.
Paul (Sunderland, MA)
Face it. The guy is an insecure loser.
Sharon (California)
Why do we have to spend so much time on such childish behavior? He's not presidential, not worthy of the office, his family is nothing but a bunch of hillbillies (albeit, rich ones...), and by the public paying all this attention to all this nonsense is how he got elected in the first place. Before these Trumps and Company completely ruin our great nation, we ought to get them all on a plane to Russia....or Mars.
Dorothy Darling (New York)
Oh my God. It's the most disgraceful behavior ever. He's out of control. Sara Huckabee is the post Spicer looney toons
denial hawker. The reviews are "Crude, low" and on and on. All from our President! For those Republicans who think they have God in their lives remember to pray for America and that you created this.
No news briefings with cameras! What a diaper baby President. Yes it's the twilight zone in any day with Trump and his family.
Jan Marijs (The Netherlands)
The USA has a leader who looks and acts like an AWPE, short for "Anus With Pig's Eyes " (sorry pigs).
AWPE is supported by GOP, you know the party that still gets its representatives elected by most Americans.
So you probably still like AWPE for president.

I'm afraid you have no idea how this effect America abroad. You are in a steep fall...................
JJ (san francisco)
Let's have the wife divorce him. After all her plastic surgeon is the same as Ivanka's and the Donald's. They all look exactly the same. Are they bleeding together too?
Christian (Manchester)
|He's an absolute clown and an embarrassment to your fantastic country. I hope you rid yourselves of him.
CJ13 (California)
Elect a clown.

Expect a circus.
Chris Dowd (Boston)
The circus is the point of this fake reality show President. No one who comes into my shop thinks this guy runs anything. He's a fool- a jester- an actor. Trump is proof positive of a deep government. He tweets for trigger effect. There is no way this guy runs anything.
Patrick Borunda (Washington)
This has gone far enough.
Donald Trump is on the international stage because he wanted to be...no one forced him.
Let's be clear...Donald and Melania Trump are trailer trash and an embarrassment to the United States. If they had stayed in private life they wouldn't have been any different but since they chose to thrust themselves into the international spotlight they assumed obligations at which they are failing miserably.
Ms. Sanders is the perfect mouthpiece for such a sorry excuse for a president. Purr-fect.
For the record, I oppose any future presidential pardon for Donald Trump.
Carol Colitti Levine (CPW)
Mika & Joe narcissists in their own right.
Mary Ann (Seattle)
To have such a crude, petty vulgarian demeaning that high office, getting his "daily briefs" from TV and regularly tweeting his adolescent animus ... I'm ashamed for my country.
josh daniles (mesa az.)
I say keep it goin'. What an absolute fool.
RAS (Richmond)
The showboat is setting a smokescreen ... Look out, America ! ! !
Charles Rogers (Hudson Ohio)
I am so glad the christian right elected this man. He is so worthy of Gods Vote.
This is what Republicans think of women. I am wrong Hmmmm lets look at the health care bill how many women are on the committee, ok ok bad example, How many women will be allowed input into the finial bill? Ok ok bad example
How many Men does he put down so aggressively Ok Ok another bad example.
The guy is every thing the lord is not. I would say Satin's right elected him. Hmmmm well I know all in the name of religious freedom? Yea for religious freedom there's not ours.......

Chuck from Ohio
Randall Johnson (Seattle)
God made Trump in his own image.
Bubba (Maryland)
Give him some ball bearings to fiddle with and we will have our own Captain Queeg.
Edgar (New Mexico)
Trump is a fake president that is why he has no clue on how to act. And sorry, but Melania , who is supposed to be a spokes person against cyber bullying, seemed to condone his behavior. Class? The Trumps are way way out of their league. Sure miss the Obamas.
SBatts (New Rochelle, NY)
The Morning Joe crew has no one to blame but them selves for what has happened. They are as responsible for the creation of Trumpenstein as
anyone. It was their show that repeatedly took his phone calls and gave him a platform early in the campaign season. They helped to give a fringe candidate legitimacy. Now the monster has come alive and attacked them. No one should be shocked or surprised at this point least of all Mika and Joe.
Queenbee (Nyc)
How ironic that it seems less likely that this treasonous scam artist will be brought down not by his high crimes, but by his misdemeanors!
brian d (Santa Fe, NM)
This is just one more example of failed leadership. Trump has no time or inclination to condemn Russia for its coordinated assault to corrupt our electoral process - let alone provide leadership for a strategic effort to guard against such manipulation in the future. Nonetheless, he is quick to use his powerful position to attack the free press and demean women. Horrible leader of a nation, horrible man.
lCW (<br/>)
Day after day I am incensed and embarrassed for our country and myself. I can no longer laugh at this lunacy and stupidity. I do not want to tolerate a President who continuously makes degrading remarks about women and men. I do not want to tolerate a President who uses his office, along with his family, to increase his wealth. The behavior may not be a legal reason for impeachment but the abuse of the office of the President is. Many of us are looking for a way to unite and demand action. In the meantime I do not want to sink to use of negative language.

POTUS=Purile Obtuse Tweets Undermine Society
JoanneN (Europe)
Why does your front page devote more space to tweets than to healthcare and the China story? The media should stop giving top billing to stories about T's tweets. We already know he's a sexist bully with the skin of a newborn.
Sunil Kololgi (Washington DC)
Joanne, Trump is not sexist, is not a bully. His impoliteness is bad but preferable to Liberals poor business skills.
ksb36 (Northville, MI)
Does no one remember his frightening, inflammatory behavior toward NBC's Katy Tur during the campaign? I was seriously afraid for her safety, in particular, as well as the safety of other journalists covering Trump, after some of his remarks and the vitriolic, violent reactions of the crowds at his events.
Sunil Kololgi (Washington DC)
If you are scared of Trump, don't attack him don't lie about him.
Margarita (Texas)
For those of you who "have no problem with this", please consider how much of a problem you would have with it if this was your child's teacher or your doctor or almost any other person in a position of power over you or your family--much less over the entire country, if not the world. Words matter. A person's attitude and conduct matter. What Trump is saying and doing is not inconsequential. And the portrait he is painting of himself is horrible, quite frankly. It's of a horrible human being that is now our president.
Fred (<br/>)
As Maya Angelou observed: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them - the first time." Meanwhile, cameras and audio are being banned from White House press corps briefings. McConnell and Ryan are trying to wring every last drop out of the political landscape to push their scam. The foundations of democracy are being assaulted. Wake Up. Trump understands that his biggest concern is a free press that exposes fraud with fact. Right now that is the race he is looking to win. Sometimes the easiest way to that end is distraction. Every authoritarian (or in this case wanna be authoritarian) govt. understands this is the only way to cement control. Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative, Independent, if you love the idea of liberty stop looking for someone to save you. Demand that congress, for national security reasons, (Mika's facelift or non facelift comments are not threatening to national security) demand the release of the past 10 years of Trump's taxes. Why was the tax issue the number one thing he continually avoided, brushed aside, tried to distract from, assiduously refused to do, during the campaign? Because even he knew the FACTS therein were the only thing that could derail him.
Nigel Hughes (UK)
I am a Brit who admires much about your great nation, but I must confess to feeling very embarrassed for you having President Trump as the global face of America. Do you realise how much coverage there is worldwide of his tweets and behaviour?

Would you expect anything less from Trump!
gerry (new york)
We knew what we were getting when we didn't vote for him.
Richard Lehner (St. Petersburg, Floriduh)
The sad news and fact is that half the country, and the lower half, actually agrees with this behavior and supports it. They see it as a return to white america and an end to what they call "pc" behavior they hate. Our country is in very sad shape right now. Leadership is top down, and there is no leadership at the top of the Republican Party, only hate and excuses. Please play nice in the sandbox!
mjb (Tucson)
Not a smart comment, Richard. You deflected the censure of Trump's behavior to people who you call "the lower half."

You invite more of this behavior and these votes with comments like this.

Please stick to the issue of Trump's unpresidential behavior.

Turning this into a "gender issue" shows all that's wrong with the NYT and the US media in general. Trump is a vicious rhetorical attack dog against just about everyone and anyone -- he has said similarly insane things about Rand Paul's looks ("ugly"), John McCain's war record ("not a hero"), and Ted Cruz's father ("part of the plot to kill JFK"). By screaming "sexism" it just becomes part of the tiresome identity politics game that turns off most Americans and leads them to vote for dangerous disruptors like Trump.
Kally (Kettering)
Yes, he's vicious with anyone he doesn't like, or feels challenged by, but he also has a history of "gender issues", if you'll recall. I mean, only Mika was bleeding in this tweet so the viciousness seemed aimed more at her. And Mika and Joe are also making it about gender, so it's part of the story. I just watched that Irish reporter incident and had the impression that it was her tight red dress that brought that on. Not to be ageist (he's only 6 years older than me), but this is typical lecheous old fart behavior masquerading at being charming.
Bh (Houston)
For all those commenters who say some version of "I like someone to tell it like it is" or "this is the way all the Presidents really think in private, so why not be honest?"…. How would you feel if you walked into work every day, or your home kitchen, or your child's school, or into a local restaurant, etc., and your boss, husband, child's teacher, or waiter said, "Hey Fat Chick, looks like you need to eat less donuts" or some other vile comment day after day after day? Regardless of whether you are overweight ("the truth"), the comment is inappropriate. It's demeaning, it's hurtful, it's abusive, it's unacceptable. Just as a matter of human civility and respect for others, let's try to encourage civil discourse. And certainly for the office of the President, which should be the highest bar of all, we should demand better behavior as the role model for our country and citizens. This is THE example of Golden Rule. If you can't accept that, you are either a bully OR you must not respect yourself and therefore don't mind others disrespecting you as well.

And for the paid excusers like Sanders, she's willing to sell her soul for a book deal that will certainly be coming her way upon her departure. I wish I was shocked to see such immorality and greed in the Republican party.

MDB (Indiana)
I winced a little this morning when Donnie Deutch, a frequent "Morning Joe" panelist, said how he would have handled Trump's tweet, had it been directed toward one of his family members: A challenge to a brawl.

This is exactly what we DON'T need right now, more meaningless tough talk like this, as much as it may satisfy viscerally. Somebody here has to be the adult. Sinking to Trump's reprehensible level helps nothing and makes everything worse. We can't be constantly dragged down by this juvenile, petulant man. There is too much real work to do.
Neighbor (Brooklyn, NY)
If the media brawls in the mud with Trump, he wins.
mjb (Tucson)
Totally agree. Donnie Deutch is just adding fuel to the fire and people may treat it as a pro wrestling match. Stop. Please. Act like adults, at least try to fake it till you make it.
David Downie (Perth, Australia)
As Churchill said "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.". You are 'trying' Trump and hopefully you'll do the right thing soon. Your constitution has no equals and is founded on enlightened principals. I find your present predicament anything from enlightened. Please America come to your senses.
Sharon Salzberg (Charlottesville, va.)
The majority of American voters, by nearly 3,000, voted for Hillary Clinton. Due to our antiquated electoral college system, trump received more votes and was deemed the winner. Make no mistake: we, the American people, in overwhelming numbers, are pained and dismayed that such a disturbed, inept man sits in the White House. We are actively working, through our special prosecutor, Bob Mueller, in finding enough evidence to have him removed from office.
TDS (Evanston, IL)
Thank you, Australia, for your hope and good will. I feel compelled to shed light, though, that it is not Donald Trump's Constitution. As an American, it is my Constitution. It is every American's Constitution. It is Our Constitution. The Hope of Jefferson. The Words of Madison. Guided and Defended by Washington. Donald Trump is a despot, wrapped in the glutton of cheap talk and threats. I'm so ashamed. We Americans are good people. Somewhere and sometime soon we will find our enlightenment once again. That's the Guarantee of Our Constitution. Hope and pray our leaders soon will respond and end this.
Lee (New York City)
Everyone makes a big deal about Trump's tweets, but it's not the form that reveals him. This is an immature, amoral, stupid man who doesn't need technology to put his lack of human decency on display. His inability to govern himself throws into question his long-term impact on the country. Worse still, no one talks about the voters who still support him, potentially lowering the governance bar for decade to come. Sad.
SLD (Texas)
This man has no filters. What an embarrassment to the office of President and all of us who live here. There isn't anything else important going on in the country that he has enough time to make stupid tweets??
Cephalus (Vancouver, Canada)
The real shock is how Republicans and Trump's supporters cover for him, make excuses, ignore egregious violations of morality and reason. That's where the madness truly lies. Have Trump's supporters and the Republican party no regard for their country?
Zejee (Bronx)
They think stooping to vulgarity will make America great again. Just ask any Trumpster. They love this.
carolyn (durham)
I just saw that Melania's rationalization to Trump's behavior was that when he is attacked he will punch back 10 times harder and it doesn't matter if it is a man or women.....
On a personal level of living with bullying from my brother that is the definition of bullying. If one says a little comment and the other person hits back 10 times harder and repeatedly ....to me that is a bully.
olyjan (olympia)
I don't think Melania actually wrote that - doesn't it sound exactly like Sarah Huckabee Sanders? She used those exact words at press conference. I'm guessing that it was written by a staff person and put out under Melania's name. Of course, this would fit into the complete lack of respect for women we see from this W.H. - and lack of respect extends to the First Lady. (It IS cringe-worthy that women in the W.H. 'front' for Trump - but that is not a surprise to feminists - we have seen this...forever. sigh...) No wonder Melania wanted to stay in N.Y. Does she want her son in that environment?
gerry (new york)
And Melania's token First Lady cause is to fight cyber bullying! The irony of ironies.

I won't be celebrating the 4th of July until Trump is removed from office.
I am not proud of a nation or any part of a nation that could have supported this abomination of a human.
Edwin Andrews (<br/>)
Nah, go ahead and celebrate. This great nation is more than one man.
olyjan (olympia)
I'd ask you to reconsider. First - Hillary Clinton got about 3,000,000 more votes than Trump AND if you add in all the eligible voters who abstained (and we should start mentioning those people EVERY time we discuss voting in America) only about 12% of eligible voters are Trump's base. SO CELEBRATE! We ARE out here.
gerry (new york)
celebrate that we've had about 40 decent or good presidents in our history. 46th should be pretty good too. I can't wait!
Greg (Washington)
Perhaps there is a silver lining to this twitter storm. If all of the people and news media posted negative but true comments about Mr. Trump on a designated "No to Trump" day, this psychotic man would most likely have a complete meltdown, there being not enough seconds in a day for him to tweet out millions of insults in response. Mr. Pence, Melanie, Paul Ryan, etc. would need to perl this vile man off the ceiling of the Oval Office. Perhaps then Congress would determine he is unfit to govern and remove him from office.
Jane Eyrehead (<br/>)
We know what he's like; this should not be a surprise. Look on the bright side: he is leaving a written record--by himself!--of his awfulness. Maybe it will come in handy one of these days.
Diane (Sunnyvale, California)
Trump seems to have a fascination for women bleeding.
TheraP (Midwest)
No, he has a fantasy of a woman bleeding. Or a delusion!

Either way, it's very bizarre and ominous. From a psychological point of view.
David. (Philadelphia)
Back when Donald Trump was married to the hapless Ivana, he asked her to recommend a good cosmetic surgeon who could eliminate Trump's ever-widening bald spot. Trump ended up enraged by the cosmetic surgeon, and in retaliation, he savagely beat Ivana and tore clumps of hair from her head, then brutally raped her. (All of this was in Ivana's divorce deposition and covered by the Huffington Post.)

So yes, Donald Trump knows something about bad cosmetic surgery, including his own.

The outrage will blow over and tomorrow will be just another day. The so-called offended REPs will not do anything to get rid of their puppet. This is just another of many despicable situations, where they pretend to condemn his actions and move on. Trump's 11-year old son Barron should become a "special assistant" to the president in order to teach him maturity. Clearly, Melania's "anti-bullying" efforts are a total flop.
Republicans should forget about “Repeal and Replace”. Congress has more pressing issues—adopting a resolution of censure against Trump, who has definitely earned one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censure_in_the_United_States
Olle (Stockholm)
It must be so embarrassing to be American ever since Trump was elected president of the United States of America.

You have no idea, Olle...every day I cringe, when I'm not otherwise angry, frightened, confused or just heartbroken. And I'm not sure a President Pence would be any better. 2020 is so far away.
olyjan (olympia)

Trump just does not know when to keep his pie-hole shut. Unfit for duties as President of the United States. Enough is enough - time to at least Censure or Impeach.
Texas Progressive (Texas)
The POTUS has mental health issues in addition to being a cowardly bully. He is not doing his job. Congress needs to step up and do the right thing.

Virginia (Cape Cod, MA)
People with common sense, decency, and brains don't.

He always hits back, his spokesperson said.

This time, he hit a woman.
Jennifer (Nashville, TN)
Hillary Clinton was right. Half of Trump's supporters are deplorable. They run around talking about how America is headed down the wrong path. That a she was a he and he was a she. That men can marry men. What's next men can marry dogs. That women ask for it when they where little shorts and big tshirts. Oh how they lament where there country went. And yet they had no problem voting for a man so unbelievably crude and vulgar. To all of those people, I ask would you let your child say these things? Do you think it's ok? Where are your morals now?

I would wager he still could shoot a woman in the middle of 5th Av. and maintain his majority among Republican female voters as Ms Sanders illustrates and possibly with all political affiliations. Just another celebrity bad boy making locker room talk, ho hum!

Cliff, not so sure you are right. Ms. Sanders is after power in any way she can get it. Don't judge women by the Trump hangers-on.

Whether it is reasonable or not the qualities of both the country and values of its people are often perceived by the outside world according to the words and behaviour of the President.

I'm sick of all the Trump bashing.....what did she say about him? He refuses to be bullied.
Leave him alone already...he had an effigy of his head on a stick by a low class comedian...a play in New York depicting him being killed.
So much more bashing it could make a person mad.
Funny, Mr. O spoke eloquently and accomplished a lot of negativity in the USA.
Racism is very strong.. the economy dribbled... he took many expensive trips with his family at our cost. Hhmmmmm. Very uncool.

Yep, I'm white and proud! Shame on you trump bashes.

white and proud? proud that you are white? what does that even mean?
please tell me you aren't reproducing

His press secretary says it's OK. His wife says it's OK. It's NOT OK. Our FAKE president is a big baby. He can dish it out but can't take it. If he was smart which he isn't he should stop tweeting.
Ruth L (Johnstown, NY)
The White House apologists claim 'no other President faced as much criticism as Trump'. First most of the criticism is valid. Trump IS a liar. All the apologists, including Ms Sanders, should go on the internet and look at videos and tweets of Trump saying proven untrue things - even lying about his own statements.

Second, if they are over 15, they should remember Birtherism and one Donald Trump, private citizen and chief Birther. I remember Mr Trump claiming he sent private investigators to Hawaii who found very damning information. I believe most folks remember that as well. Also, the vile emails and memes going around of out first Black President and First Lady. That was pretty nasty.

Sorry guys, President Trump is a LIAR and not even very good at that. He has no good ideas for the USA - he knows very little about the country or the job of President and seems unwilling (or unable) to learn. He's also a very poor 'deal maker' - seems to rely on bullying. He's also a misogynist. But everyone knew this before the election. And yet people voted for him and we're stuck with him for four. Just don't make apologies that make you look stu.
JBK007 (Boston)
I guess Trump thinks these low brow distractions are going to make us all forget about the Russia investigation? Nyet!

Meanwhile, what a pathetic, despicable excuse for a human, never mind the president!

Okay NY Times--time to stop reporting anything 45 tweets, does or says; the more press he gets, good or bad, the more it feeds 45's HUGE ego. Ignore the White House-nothing coming from Spicer, Huckabee or 45 has value--it's sensationalism at its worst. Contact other government entities for information of value.

What is this obsession the man has with menstruation? The topic seems to come up in any discussion he has regarding women who do not adore him?
Lynn (DC)
This is not the news - the travel ban going into effect, the healthcare "repeal and replace" process, the country's international relationships, the country's budget and strategic priorities are the news. Please don't let the "tweet of the day" absorb so much of the discussion.

It is tempting to view the current contratemps through
the lens of "castration anxiety", or an older phenomenon
called the 'vagina dentata' myth'. At the heart of Sigmund
Freud's psychoanalytic theory lies an irrational fear of loss
of masculinity, in childhood. The earlier mythic expression of
fear of a of a women's reproductive organ as a 'devouring
instrument' can be found in many cultures going back
centuries. TV journalist Ana Navarro's recent comment,
"what is this weird fixation with women and blood?", leads
us to take a hard look at both myth and theory, to explain
the peculiar variant of mysogeny represented by recent
remarks about Ms. Brzezinski.
Brian A. Kirkland (North Brunswick, NJ)
The real question is where he got the "bloody" imagery from. Does anyone believe that Brzezinski went out in public with a bloody face? That' the bizarre part. Another senseless, easily disprovable lie.
RichD (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
And then there is this "Morning Joe" show. They have spent every day since last November 8 bashing, insulting, and defaming the president of the United States. So, he finally says something back and Twitter-world, and now the MSM goes berserk. "OMG!" they say, "No president has ever done this! He's using Twitter! Where is the decorum!" - and this from those who use Twitter and have little decorum themselves. Well, George Washington and Ronald Reagan didn't have a Twitter account. Twitter wasn't even around until 2006. It's a new world with new tools for social and political engagement. Even what I'm doing right now is still a fairly new form of interaction. Not very long ago, the only way to do this was by a letter to the editor. So, get used to it. Twitter, or similar websites are here to stay, and they will be used more and more by politicians for direct communication with the people.

And BTW, "Morning Joe" deserved it! So, what is the Times saying? They can dish it out but they can't take it? Poor babies!
Kally (Kettering)
Besides Morning Joe, most late night talk shows spend their monologues ridiculing Trump. And you know why--because he's ridiculous. He says ridiculous, preposterous things (did you know he's the self-proclaimed greatest president since FDR?), makes empty promises, holds bombastic questionably ethical rallys, and has padded his cabinet with inexperienced rich people. But you make your point--it's a different world, we now have Twitter (hey, did you know Obama also used Twitter?). Do you really think the likes of George Washington or Ronald Reagan would have used Twitter this way? Politicians and presidents have always been subjected to criticism and ridicule. They are supposed stay above it and to spend their time working for the American people, not childishly lashing out. Anyway--always interesting to see how people try to justify this joke of a president.

Um, it's not the medium, it's the message. Duh. Obama was abused by the right for eight years, relentlessly. He was called a monkey, a fascist, a communist, a muslim, and an illegal alien. he handled it with dignity and poise.

What planet are you living in where you think it's ok for the POTUS to behave this way? Oh, and don't tell me, I bet you claim to be a Christian as well.

The hypocrisy narrow mindedness of people like you is bringing this country into the gutter.
Mike (Albany, New York)
If only the President would spend a fraction of the time he spends on tweets on solving the nation's problems.......what a waste!
Nicholas (Canada)
'His tweets on Thursday added strain to the already combative daily briefing, as reporters interrupted Ms. Sanders’s defense of the president to ask how she felt about them as a woman and a mother.

She responded that she had only “one perfect role model”: God.

“None of us are perfect,” she said.'

Donnie is perfect: Perfectly vile, misogynous, bigoted, and compromised. He never misses an opportunity to sink lower than a hagfish. Talk about a race to the bottom; he redefines the floor every day and in every way. Soon even the centre of a galactic black hole will not be beneath him.
Kenell Touryan (Colorado)
Trump is a demi-god. He makes no mistakes...he is adored by 40% of the US citizens. He is the only hope for the GOP... he cannot be a misogynist because he has three wives... It is time we all face this weird reality, and learn to live with it...for 8 yrs!
clapol (Dallas, TX)
I would love to write a song called "Desperate Liar." Just look at the absurd logic of a 4-year-old's brain. If you were a woman who was 'bleeding badly from a facelift,' would you actually be going to a party?
David. (Philadelphia)
TrumpCare, not unpredictability, will be killed by Trump's own idiotic and repulsive behavior. The bill was already DOA, but Trump's ugly little tweets put the final nail in its coffin.
Rick (Tilton, NH)
I still find it hard to believe that this jerk is our President. Even harder to believe is that the GOP nominated him. And hardest to believe is that the Dems picked the one person that was less popular. I voted for Gary Johnson and have no regrets.
Greg (Chicago, Il)
Why the facelift comment is sexist? Both, women & men do it.
Are women more insecure about it? Hmmm
Kally (Kettering)
Hmmm--does the fact that it was gross (bleeding badly...riiiight) and a lie bother you.? And yes, Trump displays many sexist tendencies--too many to go into in this comment.
Vickie Hodge (Wisconsin)
This is the kind of talk that leads to congressmen being shot! It may not be violent or threaten violence, but it destroys civility which then leads violence. How the heck did we end up with such an awful person leading this country???
BigWayne19 (SF bay area)
...Mr. Trump has a problem with the half of the population more likely to vote...

-------- except that they didn't vote and that's what got him elected . . .

In Washington, DC bullying is a crime. In NYS bullying AND cyperbullying are crimes. So DJT just committed a crime. Oh well right!
Susan (Piedmont)
Embarrassing. If Mr. Trump were a drinker, I would say that he was obviously drunk when he composed these very-early-morning tweets. (Behavior like this is typical for alcoholics on the down slide.) Since he does not drink (..?..) we must find some other explanation. Mental instability?

Drug use? Think what you would think if this were your family member or (God forbid) your business partner.
Major Tom (Mount Olive NC)
Our President needs to get mental help! It will be interesting to see what happens in France on Bastille Day, when he is not the Big Attraction. Europeans in general do not think highly of him. Perhaps The Queen of England will lend him her coach to feed his ego.
Marie (Boston)
My stepfather was like Trump. My ex father in law was like Trump. I've seen this type of man my whole life. Where everyone who isn't a white man is "uppity" if they "get out if line" or speak up or out. And need to be reminded of their place.

They all had/have old testament sentiments toward women. Men are in charge. It doesn't matter if they are CEOs or lazy, fat slobs sitting on the porch collecting government checks while the wife works, men are superior beings and women just need to shut up and do as they are told and look good doing it. Generations of men were raised this way. Some comment right here here. Many voted for Trump because they saw themselves in him.
Technic Ally (Toronto)
We all eagerly await the opening of the Mueller faucet of truth.
CARL E (Wilmington, NC)
Trump likes to dish it out and does so with "vigor". Problems lies in that he just can't take it. You turn the table on the guy and he goes mental.
RAC (Louisville, CO)
Based on who she advocating for, and the behavior she is justifying, what is Ms. Sander's "one perfect role model"? Dagon, god of the Philistines, or is it the Lord of the Flies?
Jim Terr (Santa Fe, NM)
I know this is hardly the point, but worth asking out of 5000+ questions:
Did she have a facelift?
paula (south of boston)
are you serious re facelift ?.
if you smile ( rare for these women ), their facial skin does not move.
It cannot, as it is stretched too tightly.
ANNE IN MAINE (MAINE)
Trump has fulfilled another campaign promise---He has drained the swamp and turned it into a sewer.
gerry (new york)
he wanted to drain the swamp to build another ugly Trump hotel in its place
Gary (Florida)
Having worked with the mentally ill for nearly 30 years, there is little doubt that Mr. Trump is suffering from a mental illness.
mjb (Tucson)
Gary, it is a personality disorder. No meds correct that or mitigate the behavior. It is behavioral.
PeterL (Bremen, Germany)
Why is it that no one is commenting on the biggest alteration of appearance in American political history: the hairlift/comb over of the president? His appearance is just another example of a deeply disturbed small minded individual.
CD-Ra (Chicago, IL)
A few rebukes by Republicans don't begin to appease the American voter. The president is a vulgar dishonorable lout and he, his gutter language and ongoing lies have no place in his high office much less in our country. What is the matter with the Republican Party?? They have accepted this brute and stand with him. What is worse they mirror his cruelty with a healthcare plan so despicable that the public will never accept it or them!
Scott (Los Angeles)
At some point in time we will to stop need repeating what comes out the asylum
Lonnie (Brooklyn NY)
Weirdly enough, I started thinking about Syphilis....and in my view, the GOP had contracted a socio-political strain syphilis when it willingly engaged with the old Southern Racist Democrats who fled the party in the 60's and 70's after President Johnson applied the hard Needle shot cure of Racial Justice that the old Southern Democrats couldn't bear without screaming in pain. So they ran to the GOP who welcomed them with open embrace...thinking they could control them.

We can see now: They were Wrong.

The Infection has since gone thru its secondary and latent phases...and now Trump is the sign of the Teriary phase: Dementia.

And thing thing about Dementia is that the mentally stricken person thinks everything is Normal.

Today's GOP, is irrational, totally lacking in Moral Grounding, totally unconcerned about the welfare of the common weal and the Working American. So much so that they merely shrug at the absolutely insane paranoia, Inability to tell the Truth and ignorant rants that over twenty years ago would have had them calling for Bush's resignation had he even been only half so Lacking in Basic Statesmanship.

This why I firmly believe, despite Trump's fluke of a win in 2016, the GOP is a Dead Body walking. End Phase Syphilis is always Terminal...No Medicine can save them now.
JL (DC)
I say the more Tweets the better. It is obviously making the media crazy. #MAGA
Virginia (Cape Cod, MA)
Seems to me that it's the media making Trump crazy, so much so that he can't even concentrate on his job.
Sofedup (San Francisco, CA)
I am so sick and tired of the gop saying things like "please stop tweeting...his tweets are inappropriate etc." this cretin represents our country because he pulled the wool over those who were unable or too ignorant to see through his baffoonery and his behavior is simply disgusting! Is the GOP so hungry for power they will allow our country to be humiliated and hated by the rest of the world is also disgusting. They have absolutely no shame nor love for their country and that is truly disgusting- they should hang their heads in shame! Instead McConnell and Ryan et al walk around with insipid smirks on their faces while our country's going down the sewer.
trautman (Orton, Ontario)
Finally someone said what lets face it most of us know and have not been willingly to say it out loud. Trump has serious mental health issues and the Constitution does allow for his removal from office. This is also a man (I have two daughters) who is disgusting and has sunk if possible lower than the sewer. The Republicans will say nothing which leads one to believe they agree with him. By the way how silent the so called Christians right that voted for him. They were free in attacking Obama and others for being morally corrupt and yet, they support this guy it says alot about their Christian beliefs and what they think of women as being equals. He has accomplished zero since January, but spends all his time watching tv and tweeting. If his followers think he is making America Great what a joke. I live here in Canada in a riding (Canadian version of election district) that is rural and has been Conservative for about 100 years and they find Trump a petty little man, disgusting and stupid. Scary since he has the nuclear codes. By the way noticed another plant Oscar Meyer closed today. Gee, where are all those millions of jobs he created notice he says nothing. The ones he touted in Indiana have gone except for 400 to Mexico. That is the story the media needs to start covering and let him wallow in his sewer. He craves attention and the media spends all day giving it to him. The sad part is Pence is no better. Jim Trautman
D. Annie (Illinois)
What we have is someone with a serious personality disorder. The DSM could identify it, but it seems like some variation on borderline personality disorder and narcissism and perhaps some OCD (can't stop self from tweeting). Very difficult to treat personality disorders and quite often described as very destructive to relationships, even therapeutic ones. The media really to put their heads together and decide not to feed the beast. Stop giving these vile outbursts so much attention. Do something like: Donald Trump has again made public comments demeaning another public figure in vulgar, odious terms. Next up: baseball scores!
V (Los Angeles)
Where's Ivanka?

Ivanka Trump, April 2017: 'I don't know what it means to be complicit.'

You not speaking out when your Father crosses the line in attacking women, Ivanka. You are complicit.
Justine Dalton (Delmar, NY)
When Kathy Griffin went after Donald Trump with her inappropriate video, he used his family, and specifically his 10 year old son as a shield, saying how upset he was by the image. But Donald Trump continues to attack other people in cruel and vicious ways, regardless of the potential impact on them or their families. What a hypocrite! I was especially upset by his veiled references to the potential assassination of Hillary Clinton. In an interview after the election, He expressed no remorse for anything he had done during he campaign, "because he won." Well, if his approval rating is any indication, his short-term "wins" may turn out to be a pyrrhic victory.
JLD (California)
Trump's comments about women and others during the campaign were disgusting and, in my mind, disqualified him for assuming the office. His behavior continues to be shocking and unacceptable. His attacks have given some of his supporters the permission to display their bias. Consider the high-level execs who have been forced to resign from corporations and boards of directors for exhibiting the same behavior. The GOP leaders, in their silence, show their lack of spine and dignity.
Virginia (Cape Cod, MA)
Really what this latest episode shows in conjunction with the comments/defenses here, elsewhere on the Web, and at the WH, is what many have said, myself included: Trump is more like the leader of a cult and his defenders are more like followers. They do not question him, ever. They seem to really be unable to see the grotesqueness and wrongness of this, or if they do, they don't have the independent moral compass to say it is wrong. Instead, they defend their deal leader blindly, unquestioningly, with irrational arguments, and a lot of hypocrisy. Did we not just get off of eight years of FOX trashing Pres. Obama at every turn? Did we not have eight years of Pres. Clinton being trashed by FOX and hounded, insulted, hunted by Republicans? But I don't recall a peep from anyone now defending this saying that these president "had a right to fight back", or condemning FOX for its "wars" against Democratic presidents, including insulting their wives.

The complete absence of any objective principal, any seeming sense of dignity, and total defense of this behavior by the US president indicates that Trumpworld has fallen into the cult category.
AC (Pgh)
So people are amused by, and give coverage to an "artist" that made obscene statues of trump, but then cry foul when he makes crude remarks about someone who had voluntary surgery out of vanity. Please, call me when you no longer have a double standard. If it's unacceptable to insult someone publicly, then it doesn't matter if who the target is.
Richard Pontone (Queens, New York)
Steve Colbert had a funny joke about it.
A bloodied woman comes to Trump at Mar-A-Lago for help and he says "No". Sounds like his proposed Health Care Plan.
Carolee Moore (Texas)
Dear Media, quit giving this man attention. He isn't doing anything, anyway. What if the White House held a press "briefing" and no one showed up. I occasionally watch but haven't heard anything of substance yet. Just report on what he does (or doesn't as the case may be). Thank you.
Ray (Sacramento)
Not that I condone Trump's ridiculously un-Presidential behavior, but exactly why are Trump's comments toward SPECIFIC women ALWAYS treated as his view of ALL women???

When Trump said Jeb Bush was dumb as a rock, did the world stop spinning to take notice? Were people deeply offended at how he disrespects men, in general? No.

I don't defend Trump's childish tweets, but this equally childish cry of sexism every time a specific woman is the target of one of his stupid comments, is just as eye-rolling as Trump's comments are stupid, and rude.
Julie (NYC)
Interesting question - and I think the answer is that when Trump trolls women, but not when he trolls men, his insults are especially bizarre and filled with a kind of sexualized, aggressive imagery that he does NOT direct at male targets. Together with his past remarks and behavior that demean and insult women in a very impersonal way, the picture is of someone who not only dislikes women simply because they are women, but has a profound fear of them for the same reason.
liberalnlovinit (United States)
And just think! Only three and a half years more of this behavior to put up with!
gerry (new york)
Our long National nightmare has only just begun.
Lisa (NYC)
We cannot change this little man. We all know who he is and what he's all about, so these comments by him should not come as ANY surprise. Why such things continue to be considered 'news', is beyond me.
GaryK (Near NYC)
Appeal to Trump supporters: This is wrong. Step back and look at the big picture. No matter what you think about how bad government has gotten, we must never lose civilized decorum. Please speak out and reign in your man.
StevenNYC (NYC)
The disgusting behavior of our so-called president is a humiliation for people in this country and around the world. He must be expelled so America can be great again.
Matt Andersson (Chicago)
Where would the media be, without the presidential Tweets? BTW, men do not Tweet. They Roar.
Frank (Prague)
Can't we just fire him already? Isn't it about time to terminate his employment? As one of his employers, I've had about enough. Anybody who behaved like him and was as incompetent as him would have been given their walking papers long ago. The 90 day trial period is long over and you've failed miserably. You're fired Donald. Go home, go away, stay away.
Bob (Illinois)
The president is an embarrassment to us all. Every voter who supported this ignorant, childish, cruel man should be ashamed of themselves.
JD (In The Wind)
He is who we thought he was: a spoiled bully who never learned what every 5-year old knows... boys don't hit girls (literally or figuratively). Now, off to bed with no TV, "smart"phone or dessert!
Stein Roar Kvam (Norway)
The American people has made their bed themselves and now they most stay in it. Some of them because they voted for this man and most of them because they could not be bothered to vote at all.
During the election campagne all the signs of what kind of person he was was there for anybody who could be bothered to look.
j Norris (France)
Turn off his microphone.
It's as simple as that.
Let Fox go solo on the tweets and take the gas out of his bag.
RLW (Chicago)
Actually Donald J. Trump would definitely benefit from a face-lift himself. A facelift tight enough that he wouldn't be able to open his foul mouth would certainly improve his appearance. And then maybe he could get cosmetic surgery on his Tiny Hands so he wouldn't keep tweeting the kinds of things that come from tiny minds. Oops, I must have gotten that wrong; it's his brain that really needs the cosmetic surgery.
Michael (New York)
Let's turn our focus on the women closest to Trump on this issue- Melania and Ivanka.... Every woman I know would lash out at their husband or father for such remarks... where are Melania's and Ivanka's comments on all this... both women are quiet... I guess they both have their own agendas not to criticize, as long as they are benefiting
Lisa Murphy (94010)
I totally love what Trump said about Mika, who is one of the most shameless sell-outs in the mainstream media. She is so full of herself and has lied so many times on her show -- and so smugly! Her sidekick Joe is also sleazy and arrogant but Mika takes the cake. Yeay for Trump! She's been dishing out unprofessional insults for months, nice to see him punch back. And he got her good -- nothing hurts like the truth!
Julie (NYC)
Even if you agree with his view of Mika, isn't it more than ridiculous for him to express them in such a childish, counterproductive way? Even if she really were, as you claim, a liar, a sellout, unprofessional, etc., wouldn't the better response be for him to simply say so in a succinct manner, and back it up with evidence, rather than lobbing random insults that are irrelevant and demonstrably false? She obviously doesn't have a low IQ, didn't show up at his place with a bleeding face, etc. How is he helping himself - let alone the country, whose public servant he purportedly is - by devoting so much time and energy to rambling, projective, counterproductive expressions of his personal peeves?
Mark (Canada)
Donald Trump, ignorant as so many people say he is, can be as dumb as a fox. He had all of you - including the people he insulted. The only one who got it right yesterday evening was Lawrence O'Donnell, who defined the incident as a calculated distraction to keep the media and public off the two most damning events of the day: the failure of the GOP Health Bill to garner the votes necessary for acceptance in the Senate, and the arbitrary, arguably illegal interpretation of the Supreme Court's temporary decision on the US entry ban from six countries. It also distracted media and public attention from Grassley's arguably illegal attempt to interfere with his own investigation of Russian hacking by trying to impugn the FBI and its Acting Director. Trump led you all like a bunch of sheep down the road of distraction instead of focusing on the far more consequential matters of State facing the nation yesterday. By now, Trump has an established track record of creating distraction by lobbing outrageous insults at public personalities, knowing that will consume at least the next 24 hours; the best antidote is for the media to systematically ignore them, but you guys seem unable to help yourselves, so you fall right into the trap and fail your readers by losing focus on what really matters from the news of the day.
sb (Madison)
Shall we continue to be outraged by the show and ignore the substance? I'm glad everybody wants to speak up when our President is merely crass toward a pretty white woman; where are you when he is cruel, hateful, and viscous against who swaths of people of color or the middle class?
Julie (NYC)
You're just a tad judgmental, no? Many of us who are outraged when the Rump insults a pretty white woman - who despite being pretty and white does, after all, represent a class of people (women) again whom he demonstrates considerable animus - are every bit as outraged when he engages in racist, classist, culturally divisive rhetoric and actions. And many of us put our money where our mouths are by donating to organizations that fight very hard against his retrogressive positions, petitioning our legislative representatives, etc.

BTW, I agree he's oily, but I think you meant to say "vicious," not viscous."
Pathological (Portland, Maine)
Here are the diagnostic criteria for narcissistic personality disorder:

Just sayin'...

hds379 (miami beach)
Let's focus on what he's doing legislatively; not to minimize, but he is the master of distraction. In the meantime, Trump is proving his racism against Muslims. Let's keep our eyes on the ball - not matter how many he throws in the air. He is just doing the Bannon playbook.
Maridee (USA)
Is it possible to get Donald a fidget spinner? He really needs to take his mind off his Twitter account once and for all...
peggym2 (Queens, NY)
Isn't he using the country as a fidget spinner?
kay o. (new hampshire)
Does Trump ever look in the mirror? Back at you, Donald. People who live in hair implants shouldn't throw insults about anyone else's physical appearance. He should keep in mind that women, too, evaluate the looks of the opposite sex, just one more area where he falls very short of his own opinion of himself.
Cheap Jim (Baltimore, Md.)
At least he wasn't using a private email server.
mike (san francisco)
Is this Trump "making America great again" or is he grating on Americans again? What a disgrace and embarrassment he is!
Phil M (New Jersey)
The Twitter in chief is the leader of his party. How insecure and idiotic his party is that they refuse to get rid of the biggest embarrassment and demented leader we have known. If the GOP refuses to remove Trump, then they must be removed. It has to be about money.
Erik (Gothenburg)
Maybe this was just as good - it shows who he really is. But then again he got support from the electorate in the election despite his comments on the Access Hollywood-tapes and after his comments about Megyn Kelly. He doesn't care I guess and he said so himself, that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and still get support. How many bigoted people does America have to support this guy - that is the real riddle.
PJB (CT)
He's a coward who's intimidated by women. Particularly strong, educated, confident women.
ChrisV (UES)
Trump is a jerk. The American system elected him. His supporters idolize him. This is a man who said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and his supporters would still vote for him. More shame on those who continue to accept the unacceptable. Impeach or don't complain.
David (Planet Earth)
And yet..this morning...he tweets AGAIN regarding the "Morning Joe" show regarding some ridiculous (who the heck cares?) thing about a National Enquirer article.

It's 9 in the morning Trump's time. I'm sitting here at 6:50 am my time and I've already read the news, showered, dressed, sent off a couple of work related emails and am off to work. Actual work. I won't be watching any TV shows at 9am!

Hey...can I be President please? It seems much much cushier than my life!
Tom (Chicago)
McConnell & Ryan will do nothing until their handlers (donors) tell them to.
Alan (CT)
When you see Spicer and Sabders defend him it makes one wonder, do they need a job that badly?
Teresa Lathrop (Long Beach)
Since one of Melania's goals as First Lady is to campaign against cyber bullying, I have a slogan she can use to get her campaign started - Think first, don't Trump!
Jl (Los Angeles)
Trump and Bannon are enacting the "deconstruction of the administrative state". Of course you need to replace with it something: Trump 360. Frightening.
Leslie Adams (Thousand Oaks, CA)
He murders a piece of our democracy every day. Americans and the world can't wait for his next Tweet or to witness from their couches and offices the bludgeoning (you know it's true). We salivate anticipating the taste of the next piece of flesh he butchers without consequence. We are the Twittersseum, the greatest American Horror Story, directed by @therealnarcissist. Why did you think he would be different as president?
Loren Bartels (Tampa Florida)
Congress, it is time to end this presidency. This man is unhinged, unstable, untrusted, and a loose cannon. You have the ability to decide what consititutes a sufficient "misdeanor" and Trump's overall lack of fitness is not in doubt. Please, please, please through this man out of office!
Midwest Guy (Milwaukee, WI)
What Trump doesn't understand is that what is acceptable speech on the streets of NYC is not suitable for a President of the United States. He needs a filter on his brain. He neees to research topics before he speaks.
GR (Texas)
Nice to know this crazy man is at the helm of the U.S. with all that is going on the world. Trump may get another Time magazine cover to replace the fake one hanging in his golfing clubs. It might not be the one he would like however.

But any attention is better than no attention, right, Trump?
Frank Haydn Esq. (Washington DC)
What does a nation of laws like ours do when its elected leader shows distinct and unambiguous signs of a mental disorder? Do we muddle through 3.5 more years of this outrage?

If there's a silver lining here, it is the fact that there are dozen's more journalists and comedy writers than there are commanders-in-chief. Hopefully the short-fingered vulgarian will crack and be taken away on a gurney.
Howes (GPW)
It is hard to believe that the "disgrace-in-chief" can keep producing such disgusting new lows -- someone should take his tweeter away. And on a related note -- how can anyone justify spending money to stay at any Trump property???
WMark (Chicago)
Doesn't he have anything better to do than to tweet a nasty comment. He's like an 8th grader. And he is responsible for my country and my life.

He's an embarrassment to the American people. I can't believe it!! It's like this everyday.
Paul King (USA)
Nice soap opera.

Now, tell me what my 94 year old mom is going to do if Medicaid is not adequately funded when she and thousands like her (and their families) need to rely on the care of a skilled nursing facility… which Medicaid currently pays for?

Maybe we should question why these places cost $10-20 thousand a month to begin with. Maybe something smart could be done in a country that's supposed to be smart.
And "exceptional."

Mika, sorry you got singed by Little Boy.

But, he and his psychotic party are threatening my mother's life. For real.

Talk about that on your show. Endlessly.

Use your platform and power to do the most good.
To influence the most people.
Michael (Denver)
Great News!!! Now not only the childred know that you can become President of the United States but also the low life amongst us. As a comedian once said "What a country!".
MauiYankee (Maui)
Look.
This just DOES NOT MATTER.
It will take a squad of law enforcement personnel to extricate this mentally disturbed and unqualified man.
It will take an arrest warrant and police power to relieve this nation of the poison the minority of the American voters dosed it with.
Tom Philip (Holland Centre, Ontario)
Loathsome. Disgusting. Revolting. Any decent person, regardless of their politics, would shun him.
JT (Southeast US)
This is a classic tool in a sociopath's toolbox. Trump uses his tweets to manage America's media/citizens. They are conctrating on his weekly tweets/drivel while Trump is taking down the democracy in the back room.
Piece Man (South Salem NY)
This has become the normal credentials for our President of the United States. Nothing's ever changed for DJT. Half of Americans know this about him and think it's a cool change and better than crooked Hillary, and the other half are scratching their heads. We're 2 Americas. Apples and oranges. Let's try splitting the U.S. into 2 countries and see how that works!
bill m (ct)
i really cant feel bad for MSNBC, they have been attacking Trump on a daily basis, his wife, his kids. the feigned shock and horror is laughable at best. start acting like professional journalists with INTEGRITY and i will cut some slack. this all remeinds me of the Bush era when Olbermann and schultz were on a nightly tirade against Bush, Obama steps in for 8 years and not a peep said against him or his family..not one word. matter of fact...i recall Mika interuppting Joe when he started disagreeing with Obama..she would get a bit upset on air. so no..i cant feel bad for MSNBC right now. Professionalism brings ratings.
Susan (Brookline, MA)
My dog behaves better and is more intuitive than this man. But I wish Joe and Mika hadn't dignified his criticism by responding to the face lift comment. Not Trump's -- or anyone's --business, any more than we need to know who pops Viagra. Also, the article mentions a bizarre "warning" about an Enquirer "story." A warning, or a threat? Please, please, make him go away.
Dadof2 (NJ)
Just this morning as guests on their own show (they are technically on vacation), Joe and Mika are telling a chilling, hair-raising story about Trump and the National Enquirer. Trump is good friends with the NE's owner (as if he's actually friends with anyone but himself). The Enquirer was threatening to run an "embarrassing story" about Joe & Mika. The WH staff were calling Joe and saying that if Joe and Mika call Trump and abjectly apologize, Trump would kill the story, otherwise...... The Enquirer was making harassing, threatening phone calls, not just to Mika, but to Mika's teenage daughters. The WH was harassing both Joe and Mika with repeated calls ordering them to call the President and apologize...or else!
They said they got the story from Mika's ex-husband, which, according to Mika is garbage. Meanwhile, the Enquirer had a reporter staked out at Mika's house, stalking them. The final story, according to Joe, was a nothing-burger and pure fertilizer.

It is clearly yet again a Putin-like attempt to stifle negative press by threats and intimidation. When are the Republicans FINALLY going to say "Enough is enough!"?
EricR (Tucson)
If what you say is accurate, then it constitutes a number of serious crimes. The GOP will try to gloss it over claiming Trump is new at this, didn't know it wasn't technically legal (cough, wink) or some other such blatant garbage. Under the current dept. of justice you can be certain nothing will come of it.
This entire administration reminds me of suicide bombers arranged in a circular firing squad playing russian roulette. One day soon they'll find that live round, I hope it's sooner than later. There will be collateral damage on a grand scale but I suppose it's better than losing the entire country. Better we face nearly impossible choices now than the arctic dilemma down the road.
Andreas (NYC)
No surprise from a President that has no class and definitely has a trashy mouth. But another distraction for sure while attempts of eroding our democracy continue unabated under this administration. What I want to know is, why he hasn't been banned from Twitter for harassment and cyberbullying???
elmueador (Boston)
I'd rather have the Trumplestilzkin rambling on Twitter and playing golf than what it thinks would be "working". Who cares about what some old crazy celebrity tweets, anyway. Aw, we should have gotten Paris Hilton as president.
What Is Past Is Prologue (U.S.)
This is classic Trump. He is trying to change the subject from his Healthcare debacle.

Don't let him succeed,

It's one thing to be vulgar as a candidate and another to be vulgar as president. The position of president requires a certain dignity because you are representing the country, not yourself.

I tried to find a word to describe Trump to a friend. Given all the things he has done so far, I thought that would be hard to do. I was fortunate. Someone must of foreseen the coming of the phenomena known as Trump.
The word is Crass. Yes, Trump is Crass. To save you time I will give you what was in the dictionary.

synonyms defining Crass are: stupid, insensitive, mindless, thoughtless, ignorant, witless, oafish, boorish, asinine, coarse, gross, graceless, tasteless, tactless, clumsy, heavy-handed, blundering.

There you have it. Pick one, a few, or all the synonyms to describe his tweets, his statements, his actions. In one word it comes down to Crass.

What I find most interesting is that when Republicans started to refer to those who were not happy with the results of the 2016 Presidential election, they jumped on the term "Snowflake".

Well Republicans, you don't have to look far to see the most delicate "snowflake" there is...he's in the Oval Office.

Trump is a pure 100% American product. No doubt about that. He represents exactly what is good and what is bad in us American people. We fell for his stupid "Make America Great Again" slogan as we do when we buy the second item free everyday.
Singer Telepathic (Arkansas)
Beneath the dignity of a President, certainly.. and beneath the dignity of any adult adult man or woman. The key word being adult. He is simply not a healthy human being. Embarrassing, infuriating and dangerous. God forbid one of our enemies baits him with the slightest taunt.

As a man whose current and past wife, and daughter, have been rumored to have had considerable plastic surgery, and as he himself has had procedures (a "scalp reduction" as per Ivana) he may not want to go there.
Bender (Trumpistan)
I, for one, am grateful for his tweets. Let us not forget whom the deplorables and the Russkies put in office.
Jeffry Oliver (St. Petersburg)
Once again Trump gives a green light to the abusers of women. Question their smarts, their sanity. And don't forget the blood thing. Women and blood. Women bleeding. Trump is both fascinated and disgusted by the very thought of menses. What a badly raised little boy is Donald.
The Lorax (Cincinnati)
I have a suggestion. Aristotle, in one of the biggest howlers in his body of work, claims in (of all places) his treatment of dreams (De insomniis 459b23-60a23.) that a menstruating woman's eyes can stain red a mirror into which she looks. This passage has so far eluded doxographic consensus. Someone should advert Mr. Tump's attention to the vexed text. No doubt Mr. Trump's OCD regarding female blood will lead to an obsession with figuring out the passage. Not only would this contribute to Aristotle studies, it would also divert Mr. Trump's attention from twitter. Further, perhaps reading Aristotle will even prompt Mr. Trump to attempt to use reason, also improving his performance in office.

Spoiled children of the Urban Elite slinging mud at each other. We have better things to do than watch the brats on both sides of this thing doing this stupid stuff. Our elites need to grow up.

My reaction to the headline … amused laughter. He did it again. The man says what’s on his mind, and it’s actually quite refreshing. What’s with the belief prior presidents were holier than thou anyway … ?

And don’t talk to me about his lack of “respect for women”. This woman voluntarily and openly underwent a facelift! … she lacks respect for herself. That something so trivial can get such a rise out of people is much, much more concerning. Trump was honest about he felt, now it’s time to move on, go and do something productive.

Re: Melania's defense of her husbands revenge of hitting out harder: Melania should speak in the defense of other women who have had plastic surgery and this will send a real message to her husband. She obviously has had it as is obvious from looking at a series of photos of her from throughout her modeling career, and this IS FINE. But to stand by while her husband mocks other women for it is hypocritical and says she condones his behavior. She is going along with Trump's other family members in encouraging or implicitly approving his nasty behavior and this is sending a clear message to his son, Baron, and his grandchildren that they too can behave this way. What on earth are they thinking?
Concernedcitizen (Abroad)
Enough is enough. He is besmirching the country's reputation abroad through his crass, bigoted and misogynistic behavior, not to mention his disastrous policies.

He says other countries "are laughing at us" and that he will put America first, and that only he can fix it.

To this, I can only gag, as if exposed to a noxious, putrid smell.

No, no, no. They are laughing at YOU. A demagogue, pure and simple.

(He cares little about most Americans. Watch the video of him soon after he was elected when he had dinner in Sardi's. He sees someone at a table and says now we'll be able to lower your taxes. Video on bbc: world-us-canada-38005172/donald-trump-tells-new-york-diners-we-ll-get)

I wish I could say 'I'm shocked." This whole presidency is, as McConnell says, "beyond stupid."
Geo Jack (Canada)
I'm sorry but Donald Trumps's behaviour is abhorrent - full stop! I feel sad for my American cousins and friends.
Gwe (Ny)
Mika and Joe are alleging they were intimidated by the WH about a National Enquirer story. If that's the case, out with it all..,, show the texts and evidence. The American people deserve that much.
Wally Wolf (Texas)
I think it’s wonderful that Melania Trump, who is far from the sharpest knife in the drawer, is embarking on a campaign against cyberbullying — "also rejected claims that her husband had done what she is charged with undoing." She is claiming that it’s okay to push back 10 times harder when you are attacked on the internet. Melania is married to the worst cyberbully in the United States. Sounds like this is going to be a smashing success for the First Lady, one with questionable intelligence, morality, and citizen status.

If a middle school child behaved like this, he would be sent to the principal, and his parents would be called in for a conference.
Hmmmm...SanDiego (San Diego)
I strongly object to comparisons of Trump to pigs and four year olds. They are insulting to pigs and four year olds who seem to have a better grasp of reality
Jeannette lovetri (New York)
I want to stomp on all the people who cheer him and think he is great. I want to scream at them, "Wake up!!" Do you see what you have done? Do you CARE?" I want them to say, "Gee, we made a real mistake."

No, we don't get that. We get more GOP successes in states where the GOP has been a disaster for all but the 1%. We get people cheering and nodding and smiling and holding up their phones to make videos of the "great man", Agent Orange. We see the stuffed suited grey-haired Ken Doll behind him, smiling, too. The VP who can't be alone in a room with a woman who is not his wife is smiling because he can genuflect at the feet of the woman-hater.

It hurts my heart and fractures my mind every day that we have to endure this horrible man. I would like to wake up myself and find that this has all been a terrible nightmare. If only.
Martin (Apopka)
His party may chastise him, but Trump will continue unabated as nothing will be done to stop him. Aside from his vulgarity, our so called "president" is a lazy, corrupt know nothing who has debased his office while pocketing riches and is destroying our country.
Zejee (Bronx)
Well this is how an alpha male talks. And the Trumpsters love it!
Lorin Robinson (Minnesota)
Far be it from me to engage in pop-psych. Way above my pay grade. But what kind of behavior can one expect from a mega-narcissist who's planet-sized ego and inordinate need for affirmation and adoration are being attacked--and rightly so--from every corner of the country, in fact, the world. His behavior is going to get worse and more bizarre. And he will crack. It's just a matter of time. When he blows, we can only hope he doesn't take us all with him!
Harry Pearle (Rochester, NY)
Trump needs to trump everyone. And so he can't resist the temptation to attack and attack in his stupid, childish way. Who can stop him?

I suggest a contest to find ways to stop Trump's trumps.

This yet again proves Trump is unhinged and needs to be removed from office. It should scare the wits out of all Americans that someone with such a fragile ego, so addicted to praise, so enraged by mockery, is supposedly in charge of our foreign policy with his finger on the nuclear trigger. Conniving with a supermarket tabloid in an attempt to silence a cable TV morning show shows a degree of mental instability that should shock all his Republican enablers. Get rid of this manchild before he decides to nuke North Korea.
Chris (Colorado)
I'm a teacher and Im the first to tell my students that Trump needs to stop doing this. Its despicable. But what about Mika's response - a cheerios box punning Trumps "little hands". I mean really. Pardon me for going there, but that is kinda low IQ. What a mess the adults of this nation are filtering to our kids. Come on people. Its nearly independence day and this is what we celebrate. sheesh
PS (Massachusetts)
It's not just Brezinski he attacked with that particular tweet. He managed to humiliate -- maybe even stomp over -- Melania as well. What's it like to be staring at that over breakfast? My advice: Run, Melania, Run. The whole world will forgive you if you do that now. But if you stay, you will have to eat the same cake as Donald, eventually. His massive, public humiliation and failure is being built by his own little fingers.
d ascher (Boston, ma)
This President* seems to believe that women should have breast enhancement surgery and stay out of his sight until 'the bleeding' stops. Brilliant.
