35 years ago I was standing alone at the bar of the Peppermint Lounge, which had reopened on West 45th Street in its original 60s location. A fellow came up to me and asked me if "I had just come from work," referring I guess to my vintage Robert Hall suit and tie. "Actually," I replied, "I wear jeans to work but I go home and change to go out." From 1972 to 1986, when I stopped "going out," I never once paid to get into a night club and very few ever turned me away.

LOVING
Loving comes in all sizes,
Loving always rates;
Loving comes in all guises,
Loving comes in all states.

Adieu to Melania and Barron. Glad to hear we're a Trumpless city again.

Mr. Wolf might turn you away for wearing square-toed men’s shoes?? I'm thankful for this comment, because now I have printed evidence for what I already know to be true about NYC's dull & conformist nightlife.

I won't be surprised if either Delta or Bank of America pulled out because they have good relations with Trump or that they are Republicans to begin with.

A bouncer calling himself anything other than a bouncer (creator of a room? Door person?) is humorous... the creation of any room comes from the spirits of those participating in the party. A snap judgement made by looking at one's squared-toed shoes or anything else worn by the reveler is closed-minded, elitist, and judgemental. For a bouncer to call it any other way is laughable. DEFINITELY not representative of the diversity of New York.

The job requires snap judgements, and shoe style is as good a criterion as anything else in this situation. If you greet him in French he may overlook your shoe style, figuring it's a Continental thing.

To Will Glaser regarding his photograph of the beautiful, young woman in the white dress at the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday... Great Image. Well done!
Kendra NoBiz (NYC)
It would have been interesting for the reporter to have asked more about the diversity statement, particularly in light of the many comments from black people about fitting the criteria and still being rejected.

Fascinating insight into what gets you in. But cash (or at least knowing people with cash) got you in in the 1980’s too, didn’t it?
“Nowadays, people just use their credit card to get into clubs.”.

Tune of “I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE (DISCO ‘ROUND)”

Please don’t show up in shorts tonight.
Fashion beachwear just isn’t right
Please don’t show up in square-toed shoes
You’re not the one that we would choose
Ah, puh-leeze don’t show up all macho and uptight
Just leave those aggressions at home
You wanna go where the clubbers go?
Here are some factors
You ought to know

Factors - that will not let you in
And while you’re at it, you better get style, too
Oh, oh, wow, oh, oh, oh, wow

(chorus - 2x)
Don’t wear your flip-flops
Don’t wear your hoodie
Don’t spread your dissing round, oh no

(instrumental break)

Factors - that you just have to learn
But if you’re wealthy, we can forget those, too
Oh, oh, wow, oh, oh, wow
(repeat chorus)

Freddie, were you happy with the Tonys?
Freddie (New York NY)
Jeanne Marie - saw your note in the Julius Caesar comment box under my comment. Thanks for sharing that info.

Yeah, the Tonys on TV were a fun show, even with some slow spots, especially when you follow along with the NY Times critics who were blogging online in real time with Ms. Schuessler moderating. The Times TV critic didn't give the show a good review, though. An actress in our building won, and that was great fun.
