Rarely mentioned is the fact that the Patriots are excellent every year and therefore never get high draft picks. Yet they still come back and win the division, or more. They even lost their No. 1 pick because of Deflategate but it didn't faze them. They always find unheralded players who make a difference. The scouting is phenomenal. The talent evaluation is even better. Name one other sports team that can do this.

"The Patriots did not grant (Lewis) a stage in the interview room, the domain of Belichick and Brady. He spoke at his locker like a chastened newcomer; no time to think much about his journey."

Also, he's black. Just one of the field workers in this white controlled plantation known as the NFL. If you gave him a place on the stage next to the white masters and overseers, he'd just get uppity. He'd get "ideas." Can't let that happen.

When is the NFL going to be exposed for what it is - a plantation run by white masters and overseers that exploits black bodies and destroys their brains to the point of chronic traumatic encephalopathy and death? And, why? To satisfy the of need white dilettantes and rednecks alike to feel "manly".

Have trouble picturing institutional racism? Take an honest look at the NFL and all its fans. It's staring you right in the face.

Oh, wait! This is Trump's America. Never mind.

Foolish words. Kids of all color are going to want to run like Jim Brown, catch like Jerry Rice, and throw like Doug Williams.....
Marie (Boston)
Lewis's fumbles and mistakes are much more important to Belichick than the color of his skin. Even I know even good players pay penalties under Belichick.

Black football players, like all football players, risk mind and body by playing in the NFL, of course, but they do it for the money that comes to them by the truckload for doing so. Plantation workers they are not. Post-game interviews on the field after games frequently feature black players and, if you watch them, you'll notice that the TV programs that cover the NFL are well populated with former and current black players who, I safely presume, are well paid for their presence on the shows. So, not sure I can buy your assessment, not sure at all; maybe you should reconsider your plantation analogy.

Lewis is from Albany, a little town north of NYC.

What's with the 'Ho-Hum? Play the game well generally means you win, and the Patriots play the game - not dirty players - skilled GOAT quarterback, #1 Coach, an enthusiastic skilled team. That is what good foot-ball is all about. No one would be watching if too many players were going for head-hits, or low leg blows to harm the best players and get them out of the game. My biggest complaint is the dirty players and the dumb referees who refuse to acknowledge late hits. Furthermore, players like Suh - ought to be banned from the NFL.
Jane Carter (Sioux City, Iowa)
I understand the frustration, and anger, with Suh; entirely different off-field, has a degree from College of Engineering at Nebraska; each year sponsors 1 engineering freshman full tuition, room and board for 4 years; has donated $6 mill to the University and was never in any trouble in Lincoln. Finally-GO PATS! !

If the Patriots play how they did in this game, they will beat KC but lose to Pittsburgh. Just my thoughts.

Not if the Steelers play like they did last night. You are not going to beat the Patriots by only kicking Field Goals

I'm a Giants fan but ya gotta admire what Belichick & Brady have done.

Did anyone notice how Belichick fumed and called Time Out late in the game when the officials didn't reset the clock properly? Then he ensured that he was given back his timeout back since it has their error? That guy is totally on top of every aspect of the game. No wonder they are so good...

Normally a score of 34-16 would reflect a job well done. Yet for Patriots fans, yesterday's win has to feel a little unsettling on several levels, not least the turnovers and weak ground game. One can only hope that this awkward tune-up with the Texans will serve to reinvigorate New England and help to unlock this excellent team's full potential for the AFC championship matchup.
Rosemarie B Barker (Calgary, AB)
The after-game interviews expressed exactly what your saying; they know when they don't play at their normal level. They will fix their mistakes and oversights.
Guapo Rey (BWI)
It did not feel like a win, much less a 16-point cover. But that is what the best teams do.
Joanna Gilbert (Wellesley, MA)
It is the curse of the bye week that lead to those turnovers and weak ground game. It isn't just the Pats that have this bye week problem, just look at the first half of the Cowboys game yesterday. They should have won but were so slow out of the gate from their bye week. It also happened to the Cowboys in 2007. Bye weeks are only good if the team has injuries that an extra week will help heal.

Getting to their record 6th straight A.F.C. championship game is unfathomable in the N.F.L., because it's "one and done" and you go home! In baseball, hockey or basketball you have 14 games (chances) in the playoffs to win a world championship. A Super Bowl Championship has to be looked upon as the equivalent to two or maybe even three other sport's teams championships. The Patriots are the most dominate sports team in the last 50 years without a doubt.
They very well could end up in their 7th Super Bowl appearance in the 21st Century!

Its more fun to mock whatever you can mock in the Patriots organization (certainly not their performance, their achievement, their work ethic), than face the reality of the disfunction that is the New York Jest (I mean Jets).
ExPeterC (Bear Territory)
Houston got to Brady in the first half and looked like they could make it a game but got Osweilered
Dave in A2 (Ann Arbor, MI)
So sorry you find excellence boring. Perhaps you should stick to covering the Jets.
Joe From Boston (Massachusetts)
Many of us here in New England are happy to have the Pats, rather than the Just End The Season ("J" "E" " T" "S", Jets, Jets, Jets).

Any day. TWICE on Sundays.

And we love the Red Sox, the Bruins, and the Celtics. Just sayin'. Sports Nirvana.
bob (cherry valley)
Dave -- I recommend you actually read the article before commenting, not the headline. The columnist wasn't bored. He was describing how the Patriots ignore their own excellence, don't celebrate winning, and focus instead on their failures.
Rosemarie B Barker (Calgary, AB)
I think we all know they focus on their failures too improve: The Patriots have consistently focused upon excellence and good sportsmanship. Their players are not just smart - but - very smart. It can't be easy planning and learning new strategies every week for every different team.
