Before New Yorkers become too ecstatic about the opening of the Second Avenue subway's three stations, they should ask why Paris is able to build five complete new lines and 68 new stations for about one quarter the cost per station, and to get it done on a reasonable time schedule, compared to the 100 or so years New York politicians have been promising an actual Second Avenue subway line--not just a 3-station leg of the full line, for which, according to the MTA, there is no money available.

The use of 'where we're at' in the New York Times... gulp!
N. Smith (New York City)
Does anyone else find it interesting that the Governor's "rolling road show", "tilting a little bit to the left", ever more frequent excursions to the City under any pretext, and "some presidential talk" --- all seem to be coalescing together???
Hmmm....

Interesting comparison... New Yorkers complain when the temp drops to 25° and put out windchill warnings. We here in the mid-west celebrate when it warms up to 25° and figure it is just about time to break out the shorts.

Where's "Jazz as a form of protest?"
N. Smith (New York City)
Actually, Jazz was considered as a kind of protst in Nazi Germany -- where it was viewed as "Entartete Kunst" (Degenerate Art).

Specifically, Jazz was a form of Negermusik (Negro music).

Guv's speechifying tour cements what we have suspected for years: there is no New York State south of the Thruway. Hey, Guv! It's us, the Southern Tier! C'mon down! We have a SUNY campus and everything!

Check the audience of Cuomo's Stat of the State. He has to pack it with interns, donors kids, staff. Would he be taking questions at these "rolling road shows"?

Yikes. Does the number 25 matter if it feels like zero degrees. (a lighter side look)

Tune of Wind Beneath my Wings

Oh oh uh uh oh
It must be so cold there on this road trip
When you choose to shlep from place to place
Some are content to make one speech
Then so long
You want to show that you're in reach

Did you hear the wind chill might be zero
Though it says it's twenty five degrees
Climate so strange should be illegal
Today it's the wind that really stings

The wind
The wind
The wind
Please help with Climate change
Today it is the wind that really stings
